Talking to Eurogamer TV, Nintendo UK's jolly ogre president David Yarnton took time out from pouring stout over his bangers 'n' mash to make sure that everyone who wanted a Wii knew that an apocalypse of bloodshed awaited you on opening day.
Stating that "20 million [consoles] wouldn't be enough", Yarnton concluded that shortages were a foregone conclusion. The implication? If you haven't already managed to pre-order, you will have to crack open a few skulls and feast on the goo inside to get a Wii on launch day. This, as all African Witch Doctors know, allows you to absorb their power.
Of course, it'll only be a couple... your stomach will explode and leak a brainy sludge all down your burst abdomen if you try to follow that strategy for the PS3 launch day.

News from Insert Credit
It looks like being a small developer in Japan today, there aren't many ways to stay alive. After learning it the hard way, freshly-reborn SNK is going the easy route: 3 new games have been announced for the DS, all moving drastically away from the punch-in-your-face approach the company used to be known for.
The first game is called "Dokodoki Majo Saiban" which, from the name and the description (a very evil girl is tricked by some god to participate to a witch hunt) might try to mix Disgaea and Gyakuten Saiban (mostly the latter, since it's an adventure game). The second is called "Denshi Maid Techô", and is a simulation game featuring Iroha, the Samurai Spirits maid created by Yuki. Finally, the last one is "Kimi No Yûsha" and seems to be an RPG aimed at light users.
Cashing on moe and low budget games might very well be the easiest way for SNK to survive, and quite a logical step towards the semi-professional-doujin game market (especially after releasing several copy-and-paste games that looked more and more amateurish, and the excellent KOF XI that sold nearly one tenth of Melty Blood, originally a doujin game). It could also be less risky than the recent addition of underaged girls Momoko and Malin to KOF, which alienated part of the series' core audience. The recent flow of ports and remakes (the Real Bout compilation or KOF 98 Ultimate Match) might be enough to keep this crowd hanging around during the company's transformation. Yeah, all 6 of them.

Source: A lengthy article on MTV News.
What we heard: At its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference in May, Microsoft stunned attendees by announcing that Grand Theft Auto IV would be released on the Xbox 360 the same day and date it arrives on the PlayStation 3. Though Sony reps would later play it down, the development meant that the long exclusivity window that prior GTA games had on the PlayStation 2 would not survive the next-generation console transition.
But while Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas all appeared on the Xbox, no GTA game ever made it to the GameCube. In fact, the only GTA games to make it to a Nintendo platform were the handheld top-down titles Grand Theft Auto (Game Boy Color, 1999), Grand Theft Auto 2 (GBC, 2000), and Grand Theft Auto Advance (Game Boy Advance, 2004).
However, now comes word that the Wii might be carjacked by the GTA franchise. Speaking to MTV News at last week's Wii press conference in New York City, Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that the Mario Factory is in talks with Take-Two Interactive, parent of GTA publisher Rockstar Games. "I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take-Two to see what type of support they can give our console," he said. So far, Take-Two has only expressed interest in using Wii's motion-sensing functions for a baseball game.
Though he didn't mention any specific titles to MTV, the outspoken executive did say that Nintendo wants the Wii to have more adult-oriented content than the GameCube did. That console's catalog was dominated by family-friendly offerings, although it had several notable M-rated games, such as Killer7 and Resident Evil 4.
"The fact is there will be M-rated content on the Wii console," said Fils-Aime. "EA has already announced that they're bringing [the GTA-like crime game] The Godfather to our console. And we want every single best-selling game to be available on Wii. Whatever that content is."
The official story: Fils-Aime's comments have ignited a firestorm of speculation among prospective Wii buyers and GTA addicts. However, they are not official confirmation of plans for a Wii GTA--or any particular Take-Two title for the platform. Requests for comment sent to Nintendo, Take-Two, and Rockstar had not been returned as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Take-Two and Nintendo are talking. As for GTA on the Wii? The once-unthinkable notion now appears to be a possibility.

Yes we know you all hate Rayman, but he's back and looking to endear himself to gamers who have long preferred their platformers with camp, moustachioed plumbers rather than a limbless French creature.
Developer Michel Ansel has gone about doing this by creating a story 'far from complex storytelling', so that the game takes clichéd videogame conventions and injects some fun into them, with Rayman having to save the world and his girlfriend and the girlfriend of his old enemy, and his old enemy too.
Details on the title's gameplay mechanic similarly exploit this fun dynamic, with Rayman moving beyond his trademark punching to take advantage of the idiotic rabbits to stop their invasion by hypnotising them with disco music. Makes sense to us. If you can dance in rhythm with the music, the rabbits will stupidly follow suite and you'll be able to take control of them. With different rabbits having different abilities, expect some good old fashioned Abe's Oddysey-style possession fun as you experiment with each ones particular strengths.

Big apologies to Dragonminded and the visitors to this site and forums but i totally missed this release from last saturday, anyway heres the info from the blog and then whats new:
Hey everyone! I've recently put out DSOrganize 2.3, as well as the source for the project. This release is a maintenence release, and I decided to put it out now because with this semester, I am really not going to have time to release anything until after finals in December. I figured I would at least get a version out that has a few more bug fixes and such, before leaving the project to get stale for a few months. Don't worry, as I am not dropping the project, and have big plans for it when I can start working on it again!
As for the source, I was very hesitant to put it out, but since so many poeple would like to see it, I've made it available online. I really really don't want poeple to make modifications or repost their own compiles, aside from cart compatibility tests and such, as this IS my personal hobby. If you must include it in a commercial project or recompile with modifications, please talk to me first.
For the time being, feel free to hang out in #dsorganize on irc.freenode.net. It's a great place to meet other members and usually get quick help and such!
DSOrganize is meant as a homebrew organizer application for the Nintendo DS that should have come built in in the first place. It is by no means comparible to a full-fledged organizer such as a palm, and it is not planned to become an operating system, video player, or anything similar.
Fixes found in 2.3
Fixed bug where A/B didn't swap on sound player.
Added volume multiplier to sound player.
Added ? and ? characters for spanish users.
Fixed bug with ? always being highlighted when old language files were used.
Made all screens with scrolling lists wider, to use up the unused border space and changed the look and feel a bit.
Changed text/html viewer scrollbar to reflect being held like other scrollbars.
Changed HBDB to stay in / if the default homebrew path isn't found.
Fixed a bug where scribble saves were getting corrupted from an old home screen.
Made /connect an alias to /server.
Made IRC ignore commands it doesn't know.
Made left and right buttons jump to previous/next day planner events like the bookmark system.
Added pull-up menu to browser. Drag your stylus from one of the buttons upwards to activate.
Fixed bug with L/R highlighting in IRC.
Fixed some inconsitencies in the help files.

The Nintendo DS has plenty brain-teasing, puzzling, casual-gaming action. But one genre that is underrepresented on the handheld is epic, hardcore RPGs. Yesterday, BioWare, makers of epic, hardcore RPGs, announced it was forming a new handheld division and recruiting talent to develop a game just for the DS.
We caught up with Dan Tudge, Project Director of BioWare's Handheld Game Group, to try and uncover a few details about the company's handheld plans. Is the DS big enough to handle a BioWare game?
Dan Tudge, Project Dir., Bioware's Handheld Group
IGN: So why the DS? Is it because the system is so popular right now, or are you attracted to the unique features of the system?
Dan Tudge: Both! Designing for a popular system is great, and the Nintendo DS does offer some very interesting gameplay opportunities for a BioWare adventure that we think our fans will really enjoy. The DS platform will also allow us to be even more innovative in the RPG space.

Imagine, if you will, a time before WWE SmackDown vs. Raw; before Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball; before the torrent of Grand Theft Auto clones. This magical time was called The 90s, and you couldn't throw a rock into a game store without hitting a point-and-click adventure or two. Among the genre's purveyors, LucasArts was notable for many classics, not the least of which was Sam & Max, based on Steve Purcell's madcap comic.
After making cameo appearances in The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and Day of the Tentacle, the dog-and-rabbit crime-solving duo finally got their headlining debut with 1993's Sam & Max Hit the Road. Like most of LucasArts' titles, Hit the Road ran on the SCUMM engine, and, in particular, was downright hilarious.
Sam & Max are set to make their long-anticipated return on GameTap this October, then from Telltale's website two weeks later, with monthly episodic adventures to be released over the next six months. The duo's reemergence has prompted rumors about the series hitting up other systems, particularly the Wii.
Recently on its blog, Telltale confessed its desire to bring Sam & Max to the Wii, calling on its fans to let Nintendo know they'd like to see the duo make an appearance on the system. It didn't take Nintendo long to contact Telltale and begin negotiations. We chatted with Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, about the future of Sam & Max, working with Nintendo, and the possibility of a DS version.

While Nintendo consoles have never been a real target for M-rated games, that could all be changing soon. Several M-rated games have been confirmed as coming to the Wii, including The Godfather and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent. And don't forget Ubisoft's flagship Red Steel -- it's gotta be M-rated, right?
Although several M games were released for the GameCube, Nintendo has never had a Grand Theft Auto title on any of their console platforms, although it made a brief appearances on the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance systems. But this won't be the case for much longer, if Reggie has any say about it.
"We're reaching out to every publisher, frankly every day. I'll be spending some time later today with the folks over at Take Two to see what type of support they can give our console ... the fact is there will be M-rated content on the Wii console. EA has already announced that they're bringing The Godfather to our console. And we want every single best-selling game to be available on Wii. Whatever that content is."
This means you could be swinging the Wii-mote as Tommy Vercetti wielding his baseball bat. Bring it.

Today BusinessWeek is running an article asking Will Nintendo's Wii Strategy Score? With the Tokyo Game Show this week, they run down the trials facing Nintendo's little-box-that-could both here in the States, and in Japan. From the article:
"Few expect truly dedicated gamers to choose the Wii over the PS3 or Xbox. And ultimately, the advantage may go to Sony. Yuta Sakurai, an analyst at Nomura Securities in Tokyo, expects the PS3 to sell 71 million units by 2011, compared with 40 million units for the Wii. Microsoft, meanwhile, is planning a stripped-down version of the Xbox without a hard-disk drive and other accessories that will cost about $250 in Japan, where the U.S. software maker has endured disappointing results."

Yet another update from the project to bring Command and Conquer to the DS, heres the info:
Thought I'd just post a couple of screens of the map editor, because I meant to ages ago but kept forgetting to bring them to work! The red cross tiles are just blank parts of the map that don't have tiles placed. You choose a template from the right hand side then just click it on the map where you want it. You can use the arrows to scroll the map and list of templates. I'll add scroll bars at some point to make this quicker. The map area you can see in the editor is NOT the entire area, the map is much bigger than that don't worry!
Map Properties brings up a dialog box where you can change the map name, size etc. As the map editor advances it will have 'layers' for the terrain, buildings, AI triggers etc.

Scognito has released the first working version of Breakout DS, a clone of the breakout/arkanoid/bricks game, and it is themed with mario bros series things, like powerups, music, font, and backgrounds.
I developed it only using emulator, so I don't know how it works on real DS!
Features:
* 2 control types:
-> D-pad for moving the paddle left-right (press up or L or A to launch the ball) (i use this method on emu)
-> Stylus input moves the paddle, tap the ball for launch it (recomended, but never used since controlling with the mouse is a pain on emu)
* 3 game modes:
-> Normal mode: clear 10 levels, each one with its song and background, from mario 1 to super mario world 2
-> Random mode: infinite levels, random generated
-> Custom mode: draw your levels and play with them! (10 max)
* 2 difficulty levels:
-> Hard: If you lose a life all the bricks will respawned
-> Easy: If you lose a life all the bricks will NOT be respawned (original mode, but someone on neoflash competion though it was a bug! )
* 4 powerups:
-> Red mushroom: double size
-> Blue mushroom: half size
-> Fire flower: super ball
-> Magnet: you can catch the ball
Known issues:
* All save types (levels, hall of fame) are done in ram, so when you turn off the console, everything is cleared (i don't have dev hardware to test)
* Music is restarted when pause the game and it doesn't loop since palib doesn't support the feature to know if a channel is busy (mollusk!!!! )
