A new Nintendo DS emulator for Windows has been released called GoodNDS, heres the release info:
I changed the name of DeSmuME to GoodNDS, changed the icon, and translated some of the words to english. And now im working on it to add better 2d and 3d graphics and im also trying to get sound working.
I added a new Key config and a new save and load states you can now save your games with it. Graphics are a little better but some games might appear backwards like the screens for example. I am problably going to work on sound now even though I dont have a clue how to get sound on a emulator but I'll look it up.

CNN's The Digital Life has recently spoken to Nintendo of America VP, Perrin Kaplan, in a new interview, in which she discussed the Wii console and new announcements, including the Channel Menu.
When asked whether the inclusion of multimedia functions is a realisation by Nintendo that these sort of features are relevant in the 21st century, Kaplan said otherwise. "It resulted more from, it takes someone from, lets say who is 50, and they don't know how to play games and they haven't played games."
"Those who play games are obviously, you know, will purchase it to first play games. That [other] person may say: 'Well I'm going to organise my photos and I'm going to learn how to email and send photos to relatives and do other things with it, you know, put music to it. I'm going to do some caricatures and I'm going to learn how to put those in a game. And you know what? I've never gamed but this tennis game looks really kind of interesting and easy and I'm going to give that a shot. And while I'm sitting in the living room, I'm going to check on the news and see what's going on with that.' So the point, I guess, is that we have a lot of different attributes that will be offered and what we're calling the 'Channel Menu'...Lots of things to pick from that ultimately we hope will lead them into experiencing gaming..."
Kaplan was also questioned on the threat from the competition, but provided a relaxed response. "People are very excited about [Wii] and appreciating its innovation and its unique and different approach. Those people who are very, very avid about gaming are probably going to own all the systems, those who only have X amount of money will probably own [systems from] Sony or Microsoft and then buy the Wii system from Nintendo. Those who don't have much and really love gaming - they're going to buy Wii, all of them," she explained.

Something to wind up all DS fans:
Via Joystiq
In an interview with GameDaily, Sony VP Jack Tretton spoke out about the PSP versus DS market share battle. He believes according to early adoption rates of both the PSP and DS that Nintendo may actually be losing its core gamer audience instead of expanding upon it. From the interview:
"[Nintendo and their DS] are appealing to the same audience that Game Boy has always appealed to. And if you look at the adoption rate of the DS over the first 17 months, not only does it trail the PSP but it also trails their other platforms ... They're potentially losing some of their core audience and they're not really expanding beyond that, and we think we're expanding into a completely new audience as we did with PlayStation ... we'll dip down to the younger consumer eventually, and we'll ultimately appeal to that vastly Earth wide audience we carved out with the original PlayStation."
Is he talking out of his backside or what ?

Lick has released a new version of his DS Live Weather app for the DS, this release supporting Supercard Lites and these fixes:
In the last few minutes I fixed:
- "Updated x min ago", like heyyouguys pointed out, when x changed, the old value wasn't cleared on screen resulting to overlapped text.
- The time of the location should now be correct.

Bummed out because you can't find a Nintendo DS Lite anywhere? Upset that Nintendo's successful product is nigh unobtainable in the color you want? If you're willing to accept a horrifically cheap imitation, then feast your eyes on these cellphone strap DS toys. Yeah, they won't play New Super Mario Bros. but they do come in a bunch of colors. It'll help fill that void in your life left by the lack of human contact, just not as well as a real DS would. They're also less than $2, so at least the price is right.

The PlayStation 2 title Final Fantasy XII, released in Japan this past March, has already shipped over 2.4 million units. With numbers like those, it's no surprise that Square is cooking up a follow-up to the latest in the spin-off-happy franchise, as is reported in this week's Weekly Famitsu. What's more, the new game, titled Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, will be released on Japan's current reigning console, the Nintendo DS.
Famitsu revealed the game would focus on the characters Vaan, age 18, and Penelo, age 17. The DS's stylus and touch screen will be utilized, but the article did not reveal how. However, in an extensive interview with Motomu Toriyama, the game's director and scenario writer, and coproducer Eisuke Yokoyama, some tidbits of the game's creation were revealed.
"The reason we chose the DS was that we had many opportunities to see up close people playing it," Toriyama explained. "We planned to target the game at people who haven't touched games until now. The concept we developed was that of making an 'entry level FF' title."
As a result the game will apparently feature revised gameplay. "We removed anything that would look complicated [to a new player], and built the battle system with an eye towards users who were playing the game for the first time."
Although inheriting the FFXII title, Yokoyama downplayed its link to its PS2 predecessor. "It is not accurate to call this a sequel. We want people to view it as the latest FF game. This is not FFXII-2."
This is not the first time the company has made an "entry-level" Final Fantasy game. In 1992 it published Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for the Super Nintendo, a simpler, less complex spin-off of the series.

Heres an excerpt:
The Dragon Quest franchise may not have as strong of legs outside of Japan as it does at home, but the classic DQ Slime is like Mickey Mouse in its native land. Square Enix is making sure to feed the need for Slimes with a new entry in its Monsters series of battle games.
One of a number of Dragon Quest spin-offs, Dragon Quest Monsters is kind of like Enix's version of Pokemon. Instead of taking to fights yourself, you collect and train a number of beasts to do battle on the plains and in the forests of the land. DQM: Joker introduces a new character to this side of the series, a battler who takes up the challenge of the Joker's GP arena tournament. On the overworld, you will play as this Joker contestant as you explore the 3D space. In battle, however, you will stand aside and let your collected beasts fight it out.

Heres an excerpt;
Namco's Tales of... series has really come into its own ever since the GameCube Tales of Symphonia conquered the platform and finally came into the hearts of American gamers. Namco has produced a flurry of entries in the series for just about every platform imaginable, including two ports of classic entries to the PSP (Tales of Eternia and the recent Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice) as well as a remake on GBA of Tales of Phantasia. Added to the Tales here at TGS are two brand new and completely stunning new portable entries, both of which bring the series to handhelds in full 3D.

Heres an excerpt:
Square-Enix has taken quite a shine on the Nintendo DS, but its efforts have so far used the system only in very specific ways -- the RPG giant has made some great games already for the system, but we kept wishing that they'd find more use for the DS touchscreen and two-screen set-up, making full use of this unique system.
In Subarashiki: It's a Wonderful World, we see just what's possible when this company really sets its mind on making the most of a system. The unique visual style and constant two-screen gameplay of this title is outstandingly realized down to the last detail -- this game just exudes top-tier talent. Members of the Kingdom Hearts staff were a part of the project, and Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi were on hand for character design. This is no little portable game, this is an epic adventure put on the Nintendo DS most specifically because it's just about the only platform that could render this concept as imagined here.

Heres an excerpt
Gunpey is something of a romantic notion of a videogame, something to keep very close to your heart if you are so stricken. The title, originally a puzzle game by a crew working with the late game maker Gunpei Yoko, derives its name from the beloved designer. It's always been a simple title -- another in an endless line of blocks and shapes making forms before the well fills up -- but its creative and manic gameplay is fittingly alive and well, finally brought back into action with new versions for the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable.

Another Update from the Command and Conquer Clone for DS Project:
I've been working on scrolling the maps around, and so far it's going ok. Couple of little bugs to fix, but otherwise alright. The maps are scrolling a DS-tile at a time, not per-pixel right now. Not sure if I need to scroll the maps per-pixel or not. I think I'm going to stick with scrolling 8 pixels at a time. Before I package this up for a beta release I'm going to let you quit from the level back to the main menu, and I need to speed up the loading times too. I'm using an older version of chrism's FAT lib, and it's fseek is broken. To get around this I coded a slower working version, and it is pretty slow. I'm going to look at downloading the latest versions of all the libs involved to bring it up to scratch. That's all for now!

I've started a compatibility list for the new Snes emulator for DS. It's based on pervious lists for SnesDS/Snezziboy, and is very easy to navigate.
SNEmulDS Compatibility list
Green=Very playable, with little or no graphical errors.
Yellow=Partialy playable, or playable with serious graphical errors.
Red=Fails to load, crashes, or unplayable because of serious graphical errors.
Feel free to add to the list, but please follow the same format that I did.
Or, if you want to submit games in this thread, please be as discript as possible. Including the region of the game, what glitches there are, and how they effect gameplay.
I'll be looking through the posts in the previous SNEmulDS topics and adding what I can to the list... So if your posts didn't include the regions or other important info on the roms you tested, I'd appreciate it if you edited or reposted them. It'll make my job much easier .

ThaKilla posted this news/release:
I have been working on a new DS app for sometime now. (just learning how to program C and DS hardware) Also this thing has no name, so if you have any ideas, let me know.
It has a few built-in funtions that I think you all would like. After "Swap Screen"
A few notres on use:
this app supports a flip screen type interface (sorry cant think of a better way to say it), but what it does is allow you to swap screens without swaping out the main uitls for each screen. (i.e. Clock, Inet Activity, Curr AP, and the DS Owner name)
Also to return to the "Home" screen press the "Home" bar on the touch screen window. (Red bar at the top)
Wifi Modules
AP Finder (used to find and connect to a local AP)
Packet Spy (used to view data floating in the air, no recording and locks up every now and again)
Port Scan (can scan for open ports on a certian IP)
Shoutcast (does not work really, but the code should help others)
Its needs to be changed from using the sync method of libmad, to a frame based version.
Has support for multiple list (hardcoded at the moment )
Scratch Pad (will be removed)
was going to be a simple notepad, but the Calendar should take its place.
Remote Desktop (still a little buggy)
It allows you to connect to a PC (running the server program I made)
Calendar
It allows you to view a calendar and enter in text for a certain day. (this will sync with the PC app soon)
Config
Just pretty much Wifi Settings.
Desktop Sync (not implemented yet)
Will be used to sync up information between your DS and PC (mainly for the calendar at the moment, but will also include other settings)
The main reason for this release is more for Develpoers who are having problems to see how I got around them. This is no means the best way to do things, but hopefully it will help a few out.
Some Notes:
This is more of a learning tool than a real project, so there are bugs. A Main one is when connecting to an AP you must use the "Connect" button twice (think its a problem with the WIFI Lib)
Shoutcast does not work. It will read station info, but playing has been removed till i can figure out how to use libmad right.
Also the best way to use this, is by compiling the source if you want to change anything. (uses the latest Wifi Lib, and devkitpro r19)
To use the server program there should be a folder called "VB6\Install DSSErver" just run "setup.exe" if you dont have VB6. (If you do than the "Server App" folder holds the source.)
Note: with the "Remote Desktop" and "Sync" just must Stop and Re-"listen" to connect back. It was kinda thrown together.
Note2: the Develpoer tab is used to create graphics (using my own format) and creat code to use it, cause im lazy

Bubble2K has released a new WIP version of his Snes emulator for the DS, heres whats new:
At the request of someone who's keen in previewing the 0.27, I've put up a snapshot of the WIP version for all to fiddle with. There are still some bugs here and there that needs fixing, so please don't expect the sky.
Oh, and I just tried, the battle screens in FF3 is still screwed up. Grrr...
Just drag-drop your SNES ROM onto the Snezzi.exe file in Windows Explorer. The Snezzi.dat file included is empty. But if you are adventurous and want to try to speed hack the games, you can always borrow them from Snezziboy. Remember only to include speed hacks, and NOT SPC-related hacks. How to tell? Normally speed hacks have the format xxxx=42xx or xxxx=DBxx.

datafrog has released a new game for the Nintendo DS, heres the release info:
Hi there
Rally X (for those who don't know) is a classic arcade game from 1980. It's one of those game I keep coming back to in my mame collection and thought would be perfect for the DS.
This is my first project and is nowhere near completion though I thought I'd post what I've done so far and see what kind of feedback I get. Graphics are simple but faithful to the original - just how I like it
Currently, you can drive around the map (same map as the arcade version) and that's about it. Like in the arcade game, if the car hits a wall, it will move and turn by itself when you're not controlling it with the pad.
I'm using the DS's hardware rotation to show the car turning. This doesn't seem to be visible on DeSmuME but works fine in Dualis and on the DS hardware itself
Things missing are a map and scoreboard / fuel status - these are all destined for the second screen.
It's also missing enemy cars, flags, rocks, splash screen, sound, etc. I'll be adding these things when I can and hope for completion soon
The car should also be aligned to an invisible grid to keep it in line with the map (in the arcade you could only turn every 16 pixels). At the moment it's free flowing - I hope to fix this soon.
Also, collision detection is functional but a bit jerky when you try to turn a corner just before you hit it - this is probably the next thing I'll be fixing.
By the way, if you can get the car to stop (jammed in a corner, please let me know how - it shouldn't be able to stop moving at all!
the .nds works fine on my GBAMP though I haven't been able to check the other builds (.sc and .gba)

So-called experts and analysts can't keep from piping up about who is going to 'win' the new/next generation console war. We reported yesterday that Business Week revealed analysts' predictions of worldwide sales of 71 Million PS3s and 40 million Wii's by 2011.
Hang on a second though. Today's two-penneth from some more 'enlightened industry watchers' suggests otherwise. And when one of these industry watchers turns out to be Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Enterbrain, the publisher of Japan's leading gaming magazine Famitsu, then SPOnG's ears are a-waggin'
Speaking at a news conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan in Tokyo on Thursday, Hamamura stressed that the Wii-mote's intuitive handling is likely to allow Nintendo to attract people that have never played on a games console before, noting that "if one member of a family is a gaming fan, others in the family will be easily drawn into trying out computer games." Which is of course the overriding message we've been hearing from Nintendo for the best part of the last year.
Hamamura continued, "I believe there will be big sales (for the Wii) from the very beginning. I feel this growth will slow a little from the third year, but altogether the sales will exceed 10 million units," he said, basing his assertions on figures from an Enterbrain survey of 2,500 Japanese gamers.
Speaking about the PlayStation 3, Hamamura noted that: "The impressive feature with the PlayStation 3 is the outstanding graphics and outstanding price... Brand image [for the PlayStation 3] is very high, and half the people we surveyed said they wanted one, but when we ask if they will buy one many say that it's too expensive and that they'll wait until the price drops."
Enterbrain estimates that the PlayStation 3 should sell at about half the rate of the PlayStation 2, predicting a price cut and a new Final Fantasy game late 2007 to attract more buyers. The publisher also predicts total Japanese PS3 sales of between 9 million and 10 million consoles by 2010.
What of the beleagured Xbox 360 in Japan? Enterbrain's survey suggest it will continue to lag behind in the next four years, with a paltry 1-2 million units sold in the country by 2010.
"It looks like Nintendo is giving everything they possibly can for the Wii console," said Hiroshi Kamide, director of the research department at KBC Securities Japan, who also spoke at the correspondents' club. "Nintendo hasn't had a successful machine for the last 10 years, so for us analysts it's quite difficult to imagine a scenario by where Nintendo is actually going to win. But for me right now, especially in Japan at least, Nintendo does seem to have the upper hand.
"It doesn't look completely unrealistic that Nintendo could get the dominant market share this time round," Kamide added.

Seems like we've known all about the Wii's release date, price and many cool, user-friendly/idiot-proof features for an age already, so SPOnG just had to pinch its collective self when we were reminded that it was only this time last week we were sitting in the cavernous halls of London's ExCel, listening to Mr Iwata tell us all about Wii Channels.
We told you all about Wii Channels last week, and it's just come to our attention that Nintendo has updated the Wii.com website with a few more details and a handy little video outlining all the features of the Wii's Photo Channel.
Nintendo describe the Photo Channel as follows: "By using the SD Card Slot on the front of Wii, you can view the pictures and movies you have taken with your digital camera or mobile phone on your TV screen. With the easy-to-use software, you can easily select, enlarge, and reduce the size of your photos. In addition, there is a full array of other ways to enjoy your photos, such as scribbling messages on them and turning them into puzzles. The Photo Channel can also be used to communicate with family members or to exchange photos with friends and family via WiiConnect24."
Just as the Wii's Internet browser could be seen as a 'Tellynet for Tech-tards', something similar could be said of the Photo Channel, which is an incredibly easy to use photo and video editing suite for your TV, controlled via the Wii-mote. Just check the video out to see what we mean.
Opinion is currently divided in the SPOnG office. There is the populist camp, which declares the Wii's Photo Channel a significant USP for the console, claiming that it will be lapped up by the many casual users who might not be au fait with even the most basic PC- or Mac-based photo or video editing packages. Then we have the technical elite camp, who fail to see any long-term success for the Photo Channel, claiming that it is little more than a gimmick.
Let us know what you think? Do you think your non-gaming friends and family could be sold on Wii purely by demonstrating the Photo Channel's features to them?
