Nintendo has released its results for the first half of its fiscal year, showing a dramatic increase in profits.
For the six months ended September 30, net sales were reported at ¥769.5 billion ($7.4 billion) -- up 73% from the ¥444 billion ($4.3 billion) recorded during the same period last year.
Of this, overseas sales accounted for ¥596.4 billion ($5.7 billion) or 77.5% of the total.
The surge in sales contributed to a 209% year-on-year rise in operating profit, now at ¥291.4 billion ($2.8 billion), while ordinary profit is up 249% to ¥297.5 billion ($2.85 billion).
The platform holder did not attribute the growth to anything in particular, but it's a safe bet the pandemic and its impact on people's increased appetite for video games has been a major factor.
Following a successful start to its financial year, Nintendo has increased its forecasts for the 12 months ended March 31, 2020.
Net sales are now expected to reach ¥1.4 trillion ($13.4 billion), up from ¥1.2 trillion ($11.5 billion).
Operating profit estimates has been increased from ¥300 billion ($2.9 billion) to ¥450 billion ($4.3 billion), while ordinary profit has been raised from ¥290 billion ($2.8 billion) to ¥440 billion ($4.2 billion).
By comparison, net sales for the previous financial year were ¥1.3 trillion ($12.5 billion), with operation profit at ¥352.3 billion ($3.4 billion) and ordinary profit to ¥360.4 billion ($3.5 billion).
Hardware sales for the six-month period rose by 80.9% year-on-year to 12.53 million units, of which the primary model of the Nintendo Switch accounted for 8.36 million, with 4.17 million Switch Lite units sold.

Nintendo has revealed its latest sales data in its scheduled quarterly earnings release. The data reports information as of September 30th, and brings the total sales amount of the Nintendo Switch to 68.3 million units sold. Previously, the Nintendo Switch surpassed the 61.91 million sales record of the Nintendo Entertainment System, and with this new data, we can see the system is on track to likely beat the sales of the Nintendo 3DS family of handhelds, which is sitting at 75.94 million systems sold.
In this report, Nintendo has also adjusted its predicted sales of Nintendo Switch consoles for the fiscal year, having originally forecasted 19 million units, increasing the total to 24 million units. The fiscal report also reveals previously unknown sales data for Super Mario 3D All Stars, which released during this period; the game managed to reach 5.21 million sales in a matter of 12 days. Additionally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues its streak, as it now sits at 26 million, the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game behind Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.

m64p (2020/11/01) is released. m64p uses mupen64plus-gui, a brand new mupen64plus frontend written in Qt5. It supports all thing things you’d expect from a frontend (savestate management, pausing, screenshots, etc..). m64p comes bundled with GLideN64 for the graphics plugin. It should give you the best out-of-the-box experience available for N64 gaming.
m64p changelog:
This is the first release with official Mac OS X support. A big thanks to @joeldenning for getting this working. Mac OS 10.14+ is required. It should support everything except the auto updater. You can netplay cross platform, meaning Mac, Windows, and Linux users can play together.
This release includes support for LLE Graphics (Settings->LLE Graphics). For the uninitiated, LLE graphics is basically "super accurate graphics mode". It is quite CPU intensive and may not work full speed on every computer. It is also supported in netplay, if the player creating the room has LLE enabled, it will be required for all others joining that match. I wouldn't recommend enabling it for netplay unless you are sure that everyone you are playing with has an adequate CPU. If someone can't run the game at full speed, they are going to experience extreme input lag.
For the curious, the LLE graphics are accomplished using a combination of https://github.com/Themaister/parallel-rsp and https://github.com/ata4/angrylion-rdp-plus

Super Mario Kart - Epic Racers has come a long way. This ambitious project began all the way back in 2003. Starting as a direct follow-up to The Impala Battles, this mod was dubbed The Impala Courses. Later that changed to Epic Battle, and finally the name became Super Mario Kart - Epic Racers.
This mod was intended to be some sort of tribute to the Stifu Board forum. Therefore you’ll encounter members from back then. And no, Jesus himself wasn’t a member of our board, but he was a nice opposite to the dark Loki. ;-)
Work on Epic Racers started in a time when only small parts of the SMK ROM were documented. There were no other mods, and only one, very limited, editor. Step by step the complete ROM was documented. Using Lunar Compress, graphics could be extracted and changed.
Stifu started working on the graphics, while Ok Impala! painstakingly worked on changing the track designs. Initially it proved to be too complex to change the A.I., so tracks were created with the old A.I. The results were far from ideal. With the help of smkdan, Stifu started working on a new track designer to fix all the issues with track design once and for all. Epic Edit saw the light of day and was shared with the world. Meanwhile work on Epic Racers slowed down, due to life changes. In 2016 it seemed like the project was dead.
Fast forward to 2020. Ok Impala! decides to start from scratch on the track design, ditching all the ballast of the old track designs. Stifu got on board again to work on the last graphical changes. In several months, revamped tracks and graphics were created, while a lot of bugs and A.I. problems were ironed out.
So, there you have it. 17 years later, Epic Racers is finally, proudly, presented to the world. Hopefully you’ll enjoy all the work and love that went into this mod!
Features:
- 20 brand new race tracks, with unique gameplay elements!
- 4 brand new battle arena’s!
- 8 new drivers are ready to start their engines!
- New points system. Every position receives points!
- New items and probability sets!
- New course themes!
- New objects!
- New items!
- New title screen!
- New character selection screen!
- Always continue to the next race in GP mode, regardless of your position!
- Play the special cup in 50cc!
- And a whole lot more!

The world of the Borrowers is a harrowing one, having to scramble for supplies and survival amidst the dangers of human “beans” and vicious animals. But Arrietty’s family is very close because of their adversity, so when Arrietty’s mom, Homily, is kidnapped by the sinister housekeeper Hara, Arrietty vows to save her mother at all costs. Arrietty must make use of her Yellow Thumbpin weapon to defeat dangerous insects in order to climb structures and rescue her mother. But be careful not to be caught by Ms. Hara’s jars as she throws them down to add you to her collection!
Almost every graphic has been changed to fit the feel of the original Ghibli movie and make you feel like a Borrower going up against immense odds. The most current version is V1.0, and is, for now, the final and definitive version in regards to graphics.

40 years after the events of Final Fantasy IV, The Blue Planet is in a time of international peace.
The power of the crystals has faded since the departure of the second moon, and mankind is learning to establish a society based on its own skill an ingenuity. Without the Water Crystal and its connection to the moon, the world’s black mages experienced a surprising loss of power, until a renowned sorcerer discovered discovered the means to draw power from the True Moon. Without the Air Crystal, and since the passing of Cid Pollendina, airship travel has become untenable, yet a young engineer toils late at night by candlelight in pursuit of new solutions. With the loss of the Fire Crystal, the hovercraft has become nonfunctional, thus stifling international relations between Damcyan and the surrounding nations. Still, the desert kingdom has become a notable tourist destination, having cultivated appreciation of the arts, and having developed a new drink that is gaining international popularity. As the Earth Crystal’s power faded, so did the world’s chocobo sanctuaries. Frightened and threatened, the chocobos now run wild with monsters… except those found and rescued by an emerging group of caring rangers.
In spite of how difficult travel has become the world has turned to ocean travel, and seaports have emerged to connect the nations. By sea travel, mankind has managed to continue international communication and cooperation. At the heart of all this is the kingdom of Eblan. King Edge, the visionary maverick, has repurposed his country’s proclivity in ninjutsu in order to help keep peace between nations - and earn plenty of money for Eblan - with the Royal Eblana Mercenary Army (REMA). Quick, powerful and discrete, these highly trained warriors travel the world to provide defense and aid to those in need - for a price, of course. In this pursuit, a young ninja named Furio has come of age and is completing his training. He shows great promise, as well he should - he is the son of none other than Edge himself! Along with his notable skill, however, Furio has inherited his father’s attitude, and is still learning to control his impulses.
Our story opens on Furio as he completes his training and receives his first official mission: to quell a monster uprising in the nearby village of Agart. But could this seemingly routine assignment carry implications of a darker, more sinister force at play?
Final Fantasy II: A Threat from Within is an all-new chapter in the world of Final Fantasy IV (FFIIUS) - and a project many years in the making. Using the engine of FFIIUS as a base, an entirely new game has been created, starring a cast of characters ranging from familiar to brand new, and spanning locations as yet unexplored in addition to those that will feel like a return home. For those who have played Final Fantasy IV, the gameplay will feel like a familiar experience, but many new elements have been introduced, including:
- All new story
- All new characters with new battle abilities
- Enhancements to existing abilities, including weapons that cast spells with the Fight command, ninja scrolls available with the Throw command, unique rare item steals from boss monsters, upgrades to the White magic spell set - white mages aren’t just for curing anymore, an improved selection of Twincast spells available to a certain duo of wizards, and a vastly improved Salve for bards, repositioning them as extremely valuable allies in combat
- notable improvements to equipment selection, and a weapon/armor information screen to help the player understand them
- Hirable mercenary characters, offering a notable variety of gameplay experience
- “Epic Choices,” decisions the player can make during the course of the game to affect how events progress
- A “Cache” system of item storage, which mitigates the limitations of FFIV’s inventory management
- Chocobo hunting on the field, allowing the player to ride a chocobo when one is successfully caught
- Chocobo time trials, a minigame with progressive rewards
- A fully functional ATB meter, which can be toggled from the menu or during battle
- Limit skills, which offer each character an extra ability that can be the difference maker in tough situations
- And much, much more!
This is Part 1 of (probably) 4. A full playthrough will take anywhere from 4 to 10 hours, depending on the player’s tendency to tackle sidequests and enjoy the scenery.
Give it a try! If you are a fan of SNES-era Final Fantasy, you will not be disappointed. Discussion topics are available on the RHDN forum as well as on discord (see RHDN discussion for the link).

The year is 199X. Several months after becoming champion of the Kanto Region, Red is called back by Blue to help on a secret mystery-solving mission! In Red’s absence the Kanto region has been overtaken by a strange mist that mutates Pokemon into shocking new forms, and the military has instated a lockdown! Are you a bad enough detective to discover the origin of the mutations and save Kanto?
This hack is based on a fansite some older Pokemon fans may remember from the late 90s called “The Pokemon Factory”. On it, fans (presumably kids) would email in their ideas for new Pokemon to the site’s artists who would make sprites and Pokedex entries of them to be displayed. These Pokedex mockups have made the rounds on the internet in the years since, with some even gaining notoriety as “Pokegods”.
A new hack by Cam, please enjoy everyone. Happy Halloween!

Dr. Garfield stars Jim Davis’ famous comic strip cat, in the familiar Tetris-like well puzzler. Throw pills into the bottle to cure a sick bulldog, with the help of Liz the veterinarian.
Dr. Garfield became something of an urban legend after Youtube videos by Signal and Noise and horror animator LumpyTouch, which explored the leaked assets.
Built on Nintendo’s 1990 “Virus” prototype, this release from Pangent Technologies includes most (although not all) of the game’s intended functionality as seen in those videos, including new graphics, title screen and menu built with the assistance of Kasumi.
Perhaps a future release will be even better?
“Three kinds of ugly, nasty viruses are on the loose. But these germs are fun to catch. Garfield throws multi-colored vitamin capsules into the bottle. You can move, shift or spin the capsules as they fall. Arrange them to align with other capsules on top of the virus. If you can get 4 or more of the same color in a row, POOF! The viruses disappear! Destroy all the viruses in the bottle and you progress to the next round, where things get even more difficult. Play alone or enjoy simultaneous 2-player action, only on your Nintendo Entertainment System.
Dr. Garfield—the fun is contagious!”

The latest update to Sonic Improvement Vol.2 for NES is now ready, and incorporates a stunning new title screen based on the Megadrive version, which takes the console’s graphics capabilities to the limit.
In addition, more bugs are fixed and work continues to improve the mechanics of the game, starting with editing some rules in various jump states, which although not yet ideal, let you see the great improvement potential that this game has to offer yet.

Many years ago Pennywise had asked Eien ni Hen if there was any game in particular that she would like to translate. Much to the surprise of Pennywise, Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom was her choice. It was a game she felt that the official translation didn’t nearly do the game justice for a variety of reasons including a lack of charm and censorship. So the project began in earnest. After the script was translated, the project stalled out and lay dormant for several years. It wasn’t until recently that the project was picked up again and finally finished. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of many people that the team would like to thank.
The game was officially translated, but this translation should be far superior and features a top-notch script that’s bubbling with so much charm and humor. Regardless if anyone has played the game, they’re in for a whole new experience.
A translated manual is also included with the translation.

It’s safe to say your chances of getting Imposter in this hack are 100%! In this hack of Mrs. Pac-Man for NES, you need to dodge the crewmates in various locations around The Skeld in order to avoid being ejected and surviving to win the round! This hack takes place in a wide array of areas inside the spaceship, including Cafeteria, Reactor, Electrical, Security, Medbay, Weapons, Navigation, Upper Engine, and finally Cafeteria again! You can also pick up helpful items for more points, like various hats and pets along the way. Don’t forget to use the vents on the sides of the map and collect the Kill Buttons to turn the Crewmates into vulnerable dead bodies (complete with cartoonish bone sticking out of the center).
And not only do you have the chance to play as the Imposter, you can grab a friend to play with you and form an unbreakable sinister team of Two Imposters as both of you play at the same time to thwart the Crewmate’s tasks! Hop into this hack for several rounds and see what danger the wonders of space has to offer….

A Mesen Resource Pack is now available for the NES game, The Legend of Zelda. Upgrades include, but are not limited to, increased resolution, animated backgrounds, upgraded sound, and various gameplay enhancements. This was a group project and many elements had to come together to make the final product possible.
This is the first Mesen pack to utilize a new “background based” approach to graphic replacement on a large scale. Traditional graphic replacement methods for NES Emulators usually involve replacing individual 8×8 graphic tiles that are part of the native game coding. This often becomes an issue for graphic replacement artists because 8×8 tiles are often repeated many times within games due to the size limitations of NES hardware. Because of this, it is often very easy to fall victim to an HD Pack that looks very repetitive or artificial.
To avoid this pitfall, a programmer known as KYA built upon previous work done by Sour with regard to static background image replacement. Instead of replacing small 8×8 tiles, one large .png file is used in various areas as a “background” to fill the entire screen. Since the Overworld in the Legend of Zelda is made of many static screens that are all tied together, it was a perfect candidate for this type of approach on a large scale. Several memory checks are used to facilitate screen transitions, and the 8×8 tiles are still utilized for interactable blocks. This allowed for maximum creative expression and it allowed for much more interesting graphic upgrades.
Many “quality of life” features are also included courtesy of ShadowOne333. These are implemented via a bundled .ips file which is included in the pack.

Just in time for Halloween!
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the horror hostess played by Cassandra Peterson, stars in this hack of Bandai’s Monster Party for the NES / Famicom.
With a flaming sword to deflect attacks (like a baseball bat), and the ability to transform into a bat-winged (and bat-throwing) monster, Elvira “the Queen of Halloween” is ready for action! So batter up and fight through eight stages in a parody world filled with familiar movie monsters.
The player character has been replaced with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, who also appears in the intro and outro cutscenes with new text. Boss text has also been altered.
Feel free to help fix any bugs.
This is based on the restoration and translation of Parody World Monster Party, released by Stardust Crusaders. http://www.romhacking.net/translations/3115/
Concept and Elvira graphics were created by Sil3nt_J.
Various graphics, text and Romhacking by Garrett Gilchrist (tygerbug).
This is a patch for Monster_Party_(J)_(Prototype).zip (256 KB)

Secret of Evermore was originally released on October 1, 1995. 25 years have passed and it stands the test of time with an underdog story, plenty of thoughtfulness by the developers covering unlikely scenarios, and especially inspirational game design leading to a product that invites being glass half-full. Of course, there are definite misfires within the balancing, which have added criticisms against the game.
The 25th Anniversary Balance Patch aims to breathe new life into Secret of Evermore and rectify key issues as well as highlight intended design philosophies to make the game more interesting. Although it’s still not perfected due to deadline issues, with the bulk of the testing even being for making sure no new problems from something like the game freezing get introduced, rest assured that it is presentable as intended. Enjoy.
Non-malicious feedback welcome.

Might and Magic Restoration, a project to restore the content from the Japanese version of the game, is released.
Much of the game’s enemies, names and aesthetics were censored or changed and the story was changed to reflect the PC releases when the game was localized.
This restores all of this while retaining the new features that was introduced in the localization.
This project is the result of over two years of work.
I hope everyone enjoys.

The Nintendo Switch just sold 735,000 units across both the Switch and Switch Lite for the month of October in the US, giving it the second-highest US October sales of any console in history.
It is surpassed only by the Wii, which sold 807,000 units in October 2008.
In a press release from Nintendo sharing data from the NPD Group, Nintendo reveals that the Switch continues to be the best-selling video game console in the US after 23 consecutive months, and has sold over 22.5 million units in the US alone since its launch.
In its H1 financials last week, Nintendo raised its forecasts following a 209% year-over-year increase in operating profit, as its global lifetime Nintendo Switch sales reached 68.3 million.

MegaZeux (or MZX) is a game creation system (GCS) initially released in late 1994 by Alexis Janson. MegaZeux is heavily inspired by Tim Sweeney’s ZZT. Like ZZT, MZX was originally released as shareware and the world editor portion of the program was included for free, allowing third parties to create their own worlds without even registering. Wii port is courtesy of Lachesis.
MZX is officially supported on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Android, Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, Switch, and the PSP. Older ports exist for AmigaOS 4, GP2X, and Pandora. MZX has also been ported to other platforms such as OpenSolaris, HaikuOS, and the Sega Dreamcast.

It’s 2020 and we do get a brand new physical Wii game. Vblank Entertainment and the guys at Nintendo made this possible. If you are into games like GTA, you will love this one. Let’s read on
Welcome to Shakedown: Hawaii, Vblank Entertainment‘s latest open world adventure. Build a “legitimate” corporation by completing open world missions, acquiring businesses, sabotaging competitors, “rezoning” land, and shaking down shops for protection money.
You are the CEO, and questionable subsidiaries, misleading ads, fine print, hidden service fees, and marketing spin are your tools of choice. Shakedown: Hawaii parodies big business, and the most absurd business practices that go alongside.
From the boardroom to the streets, build your corporate empire and destroy the competition.

Swiss r963 is released. The swiss army knife of gamecube homebrew. Swiss aims to be the ultimate utility Gamecube homebrew application.
Swiss Changelog:
It's memory card emulation.
It's not quite ready for prime time still, but it has been a while, and general improvements have been pilling up.
It's currently limited to the following device combinations:
DVD + SD Card Adapter
GC Loader + SD Card Adapter
It currently has the following issues:
These devices still use synchronous I/O functions for the SD Card Adapter. Audiovisual glitches may occur during Memory Card access.
Changing channel on, or hotplugging a Wireless Receiver will cause the system to crash upon transmission from a WaveBird Controller on the set channel.
Due to insufficient memory space, disc read speed emulation is disabled.
On a system where a Memory Card hasn't been inserted in a particular Memory Slot since the system settings were last reset, the emulated Memory Card will be reported as unusable.
Probably more. Use this feature at your own risk.

2020 hasn't been the most stable year, but at least Nintendo is hard at work making sure that above all else, the Nintendo 3DS is the most stable thing in your life during these trying times. The system has just received a brand new firmware update, the first of 2020, to be exact, bringing the revision number to 11.14.0-46. Currently, the yls8 page shows us that a few changes were made regarding the web browser, NATIVE_FIRM, and more. The official changelog from Nintendo says the oh so popular phrase you've come to love:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Considering the random nature of this update, and the first few initial claims of those that took the plunge already, you might want to hold off on updating for right now, if you value having homebrew on your console. Reports state that Luma3DS is crashing, and that BrowserHax has been patched.

You'll get to help returning characters Franklin the turkey and Jingle the Reindeer in holiday-themed town events. New hairstyles and reactions will also be added, giving players more room to customize their characters, as well as a home storage increase, which lets you now hold onto 2400 items. Lastly, the biggest celebration of all might not even be for a holiday--Nintendo has finally listened and will be adding the ability to do save data transfers, starting on November 19th.

A new class action lawsuit has been filed against Nintendo of America regarding the Switch's Joy-Con drift.
The lawsuit was filed in a Seattle court, Polygon reported, and claims that the Switch is "defective" due to the Joy-Con controllers registering movement without user command.
"This defect significantly interferes with gameplay and this compromises the Switch and Joy-Con controller's core functionality," the lawsuit read. The plaintiff commissioned an assessment from a technical expert, who noted that the cause of the drift is "extensive wear on the pad surface" of the Joy-Con's interior.
"As the steel brushes inside of the joystick move back and forth, they rub away the soft carbon material that makes up the pad, which changes its electrical resistance and leads the drifting phenomenon," the expert noted. "The difference in surface hardness between the steel brush and the carbon pad results in excessive wear debris that collects on the steel brush tips. This transferred debris exacerbates the wear of the pad. The wear of the carbon (a known soft material) by the steel brushes (a known hard material) inevitably causes the joysticks to fail."
This analysis is in line with that of French consumers organisation UFC-Que Choisir, which also filed a lawsuit against Nintendo back in September. Back then, the organisation noted that the drift was caused by a premature wear and tear of the electronic circuits as well as an airtightness defect, which means fragments can easily get inside the Joy-Con.
The new lawsuit pointed out that Nintendo is aware of the defect as it's gathered "international scrutiny" as well as ongoing investigations, including the UFC-Que Choisir one but also from other consumer advocacy groups in Belgium and

Released last Friday for Patreon backers and due November 20th for the rest of the public, Cemu 1.22.0 packs in a significant deal of punch as it includes:
- A re-working of the PowerPC and Cafe OS threading mechanism
- The existing single/dual/triple-core CPU modes have been replaced by a Single-core and Multi-core mode with the latter making use of one full CPU thread while dynamically adjusting load on two other threads.
- Thanks to the reworking, overhead has been reduced resulting in minor performance boosts while some titles like Super Mario 3D World that are not multi-threaded should not be as heavy on the host CPU
- The PM4 Command Processor has been updated with promises of up to a 5% performance boost in games
Combined, the above changes could provide boosts of around 5% or more in the best-case scenario meaning that if there are any titles that almost run well but not quite on your machine, you should give them another go!

Nintendo has taken legal action against another reseller of products that enable Switch owners to play pirated games.
Its target this time is Amazon seller Le Hoang Minh, which it reports has been selling a circumvention device known as the RCM Loader that enables people to "jailbreak" the Switch.
This allows them to load custom firmware and homebrew software, but also opens up the console to pirated games.
According to court documents obtained and shared by Polygon, the reseller's "unlawful conduct is causing and will continue to cause Nintendo significant financial harm."
Initially, Nintendo issued a DMCA takedown notice to the seller, demanding the Amazon listing be removed. The seller responded with a counterclaim, which compelled Amazon to relist the product until Nintendo filed an infringement lawsuit.
That lawsuit was filed in Seattle earlier this week, where Nintendo is accusing Minh of two counts of trafficking devices that violate US law and one for abuse of DMCA counter-notification.
In the filing, the platform holder said video games piracy was a "serious, worsening international problem" and this suit is the latest effort from Nintendo to fight it.
Nintendo filed two lawsuits against resellers who sold products from the hacking group Team Xecuter earlier this year. It has since been granted a permanent injunction in one of these cases and secured victory in the other, receiving a $2 million settlement.
Two leaders of Xecuter were arrested last month, each charged with 11 felony counts.

Nintendo published guidelines for businesses and organisations using Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a platform.
According to these guidelines, companies using the game are allowed to share custom designs with other players, invite them to their island, and share their 'dream address' (which allows players to visit each other without having to use the in-game airport).
Businesses can also upload screenshots or game footage to "family-friendly" websites, Nintendo said, as well as social networks.
However, Nintendo warned companies about taking part in activities that go beyond the game's rating (PEGI 3).
"Please refrain from using the game inappropriately or creating any content within the game that would be considered vulgar, discriminatory, or offensive," the guidelines read.

As usual, when a new firmware update is released, some community members rush to update their console to check whether their preferred CFW is still working and this time is no different. However, this time around, the result was that Luma3DS no longer worked on Firmware 11.14.0 despite most recent 3DS updates not breaking compatibility. Thankfully, this hiccup was swiftly fixed with TuxSH releasing Luma3DS 10.2.1 hours after Firmware 11.14.0’s release with it including support for this new firmware & some other stuff namely:
- Download Play functionality now works even when you’re out-of-region
- An issue in which the Rosalina Menu wouldn’t pop up during application launch has been fixed

Nintendo has blocked an independent Super Smash Bros tournament due to the organisers' use of mods and, according to the platform holder, illegal copies of the game.
The Big House is an annual US Smash Bros fan convention that's been running since 2011. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 event was set to take place online, running from December 4 to 6.
The tournament was to focus on Switch title Smash Bros Ultimate and fan favourite GameCube outing Smash Bros Melee. The latter launched without online functionality, which means tournaments often have to rely on Dolphin, a GameCube and Wii emulator, with fan-made modifications.
One such mod is Slippi, which was released earlier this year and improves the online infrastructure in a way that makes it smooth enough for competitive matches. The Big House intended to use this, but Nintendo of America issued a cease and desist order to block the event.
"We were informed we do not have permission to host or broadcast the event, primarily due to the usage of Slippi," the team said in a statement via Twitter. "Sadly, all our competitions are affected.
"We are forced to comply with the order and cancel The Big House Online for both Melee and Ultimate. Refund information will be sent shortly. We apologise to all those impacted."

Celebrate Super Mario World 30th anniversary with Super Luigi World! Luigi steals the spotlight in this iconic platformer for the SNES. Play the original levels with the same classic gameplay, but this time you’re playing as Luigi!
Features
Luigi’s sprite from Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
Luigi is now Player 1 and Mario is Player 2
All text now refers to Luigi, including:
A modified title screen logo
Savefile names
Message boxes
Boss clear texts
The ending text after beating the game
Credits
The inspiration for Super Luigi World came from playing the second half of Super Mario Galaxy in the 3D All-Stars Collection. This spawned the idea of creating a Luigi-version of Super Mario World dedicated to Luigi-fans!
It always felt off that the ending said “Mario’s adventure is over.” even if you beat the game as Luigi.
Super Luigi World restores the balance as you can now play as Luigi in a 1 Player Game or force your younger siblings to play as Luigi’s red brother in 2 Player Game mode!
What started as a seemingly easy beginner project quickly began to take more time than expected. It was a fun way to start getting into romhacking but most of all it granted a new appreciation for the effort this community puts into these projects!
Please enjoy, Super Luigi World!

If you’re into FPS titles and World War II, then there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the Wolfenstein series which includes popular titles such as the highly acclaimed Wolfenstein 3D and 2001’s Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Now, the latter has been ported to the Nintendo Switch thanks to capsterx.
the Switch port, by developer capsterx, based on iortcw which is an open-source game engine for the title. According to a pretty lengthy release post on its GBATemp thread, capsterx states that porting the game to the Switch was no piece of cake and while the port works, loading times are a tad slow so you may need to be a little patient with it!
Due to RTCW not being a free game, you have to supply files from the Windows version yourself which can be bought off Steam or GOG for a few bucks. After obtaining the files you need (listed in the release thread linked below), you simply have to put them in “/switch/iortcwsp/main” together with the port’s NRO and other files required to run it. It is also possible to override the control schemes currently in place with more details on how to do so in the port’s release thread.

Whether it's a rule, or merely an inevitability, if it exists, someone can and will port DOOM to it. YouTuber Stacksmashing has brought the game to a new and rather unexpected platform: the new Nintendo Game & Watch handheld. He details his experiences in porting the 1993 game to the system, which included having to use a version of DOOM that removes textures and replaces them with simple outlines and flat colors, in order for the game to fit onto the Game & Watch's very small storage. Getting DOOM to a playable state on such an odd system won't be the end of his exploits, either, as Stacksmashing and fellow coder Konrad Beckmann are working together on releasing a homebrew creation tool for the new Game & Watch.

If you're still using your Nintendo Wii U, a major title is about to be removed from the console's online storefront. Nintendo has announced that it will be delisting the original Super Mario Maker early next year, on January 13th, 2021. The game will be permanently removed from the Wii U eShop, and will no longer be available for purchase. That's not all, either--the game's online functionality will also be shut down a couple of months later on March 31st, 2021. After this date, you will no longer be able to upload courses to the game, look up your bookmarked courses, or rank others' courses.
Super Mario Maker originally released in 2015 for the Nintendo Wii U, and received a port to the Nintendo 3DS, with the latter lacking certain features from the console release. The game was suceeded by its sequel, Super Mario Maker 2, which released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Inspired by the likes of DahrkDaiz, ATA and other great rom hackers of the mid-2000s, Frantik started work on Super Mario Unlimited with the hopes of creating his own asm-heavy Mario masterpiece. It took close to 7 years, but eventually the game was released to the world in late 2011. Overall the hack was well received and of AVGN fame. Despite the popularity, it was a little rough around the edges, most notably with some questionable choices near the end and a little too much of that infamous “Nintendo Hard”.
In 2017 Frantik decided to go back and start adding a bit more polish, and Super Mario Unlimited - Deluxe was born. Everything good about the original has been made better, and everything bad has been removed, or at least cleaned up. This is the original vision Frantik had when he started 15 years ago!
More info
Super Mario Unlimited Deluxe is a traditional-style Mario hack with difficulty ramping up from beginner to expert. It is based on the Super Mario Bros engine, but has been completely reworked into a whole new adventure.
Changes from the original game include:
- 41 Original Levels!
- Unlimited Lives!
- New Power-up! The stopwatch lets Mario freeze his enemies
- New Mechanics! Mario can super jump off enemies by holding A
- New Collectable! Find all 32 Mario coins to unlock secrets
- New Graphics and Music! A familiar mix of new and old
New features and changes in this DELUXE version:
- Save your progress with three save game slots
- All new Bowser fight with new music
- A “secret message” at the end of each world
- Attempt counter aka lives counter
- Mario coin count is displayed on screen
- Indicator displayed for when a Mario coin has been picked up
- Hidden power up blocks are now partially visible
- Different end game text depending on how you play the game
- Bowser’s castle expanded with a second route
- World 6-5 expanded
- Bonus hidden level added
- “Speed runner mode” - Can you beat your personal record?
- SecondQuest / “Hard Mode”
- Many more tweaks, bug fixes and edits!
A strategy guide with detailed information on all cheats and secrets, as well as cover art for use with NES Classic are also included in the archive.

It's taken some time but DOOM Eternal is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. This version was announced back in 2018 but while the PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions released in March 2020, the Switch version faced some delays. Even after Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks and id Software, the Switch version was nowhere in sight; until today. Nintendo made the release date announcement via a new trailer released a few hours ago:

As its name might suggest, Aquaria is a 2007 side-scrolling title set in the underwater world of the same name. In this title, one plays as a human-like character called Naija who has some fish-like qualities such as being able to breath underwater and move very quickly in water thanks to her webbed feet. The game is centered around exploration, puzzle solving and combat as Naija explores the underwater depths of Aquaria after having lost her memory.
The game was quite well-received despite it being a two-person effort with reviewers giving the title scores ranging from 7-9. When it comes to platform support, the game was originally released on Windows but then found its way on Mac, Linux, iOS and Android with an unofficial PSP port also being created.
What about the Nintendo Switch port?
Despite Aquaria being released in 2007, it is not a free title so you have to own the title in order to legitimately play this port. (Image Source)
The Nintendo Switch port, by dimag0g, was released over the weekend with version 0.1.0 on Saturday and version 0.2.0 yesterday which made it fully playable albeit with some minor issues. This port was made possible thanks to the folks behind Aquaria releasing its source code in 2010 with that evolving into AquariaOSE which packs in various enhancements to the original code and is the base for the homebrew Switch version.
Dimag0g mentions that this port is fully playable but it comes with some issues such as the map view not working correctly and some non-essential features not being functional. Other than that, performance seems pretty good and you can easily get it on your Switch by downloading the NRO from the link below and providing your own data files as Aquaria isn’t a free title.
