Nintendo is planning the biggest online, TV and sampling campaigns it has ever undertaken in the UK according to Robert Lowe, Nintendo's product manager for home consoles, in a recent interview with respected online marketing trade rag New Media Age.
"We're just in the final stages of putting our media plan together for Wii, but in terms of online, our spend is way more than anything we've done before," Lowe told NMA.
He continued: "There will be three main channels through which we'll communicate Wii - online, TV and sampling - and of the top line ad budget of £10m-£11m, leading up to the December launch, a large proportion is going online."
The tagline for the campaign is 'Wii Move You' (with 'Wii Will Rock You' almost certainly having been dropped as too cheesy, despite what certain SPOnG staffers continue to argue). 'Wii Move You' spots are planned in on major portals including Lycos, Yahoo! and MSN. TV spots have yet to be finalised, so we will bring you news on that as we get it.
"Particularly over the launch week we'll completely take them over - you'll go online and see Wii everywhere," Lowe confidently asserted.

Though expected, Dolby Laboratories confirmed formal support for both the PS3 and Wii last Friday. The PS3 gets the full monty with support of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound for games (same as PS2) and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround for Blu-ray movies. The Wii, on the other hand, will only use Dolby Pro-Logic II as was speculated. DLPII, which the GameCube also supported, uses simulated surround sound over stereo channels.
It's interesting to note that no console got a game audio upgrade this generation, regardless of a focus on superior technology. Were you as a gamer expecting more? How important is sound to your gaming experience?

The US launch of the Nintendo Wii will boast one million units, according to Ron Bertram, vice president and general manager for Nintendo of Canada.
"We're looking at a million for North America at launch," he said, speaking to MacKenzie Financial.
"If we get what we're supposed to get, this will be our most plentiful launch in the 15 years I've been at Nintendo."
"All signs are extremely positive," he added.
The confident statement from Bertram echoes UK general manager David Yarnton's belief in a strong launch for the Wii in Europe, who stated last week that he expected to see "more stock than we've ever had."
The Wii will launch in America on November 19th priced USD $249.99 and in Europe on December 8th priced EUR 249 (GBP 179).

Nintendo DS owners whose brains are still rubbish can look forward to another couple of opportunities to sort that out in November.
That's when Majesco plans to launch its own line-up of brain-training games, based on the work of Dr. Makoto Shichida, whose Right Brain Development Theory forms the backdrop to the Brain Boost game series in much the same way Professor Kawashima's brain-training books do for Nintendo's alternative.
The first two games in the series, developed by Interchannel-Holon and published at US$ 19.99, are called Brain Boost: Beta Wave and Brain Boost Gamma Wave, and each aims to improve memory, concentration and judgement by stimulating the right brain.
Beta Wave will concentrate itself on shape-recognition, addition, remembering sequences and moving dot tasks, apparently, while Gamma Wave's more bothered about perception and problem-solving, and remembering things like faces, images, numbers and colours.
Whether they'll manage to deliver all that as humorously and engagingly as Nintendo did with its multi-million-selling Brain Age/Training series, though, will be the issue.

Goichi 'Suda 51' Suda's long-promised Wii title, Heroes has finally been revealed in a gorgeous-looking debut trailer freshly-unleashed at TGS this weekend.
The game is a collaboration between Japanese trio Spike, Marvelous Interactive and Suda's own studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, most famous for the mind-bending PS2 and Gamecube actioner Killer 7. Not much is known about Heroes at present, but as expected, the trailer reveals a unique art style, dodgy American voice-acting and more blood and gore than your average Tarantino flick.
We'll let you know when the first Heroes gameplay info hits, which will hopefully happen a ways before its Summer 2007 release date.

Heres some spiel from an analyst at Toms Hardware:
The fact that even the PS2 outsells the Xbox 360 by a factor of 20:1 raises the question why Sony would be concerned about the PS3's value against the Xbox 360. Chris Crotty, senior analyst for consumer electronics at Isuppli, believes that Sony in fact may not be worried about the Xbox 360 and its newly announced HD DVD drive, but much more about the Nintendo Wii.
"I am wondering if this announcement has more to do with Wii and how strong the console will be in Japan," Crotty told TG Daily. "It could be an indication that Sony feels less confident about its content." Cutting the price of the console could increase the value proposition of the offering and may make the PS3 more attractive. "If you look at the controller and some of the content you see some unique features and it is much easier to develop content for the Wii than the PS3," Crotty said.
