Dan Tudge, head honcho in BioWare's recently announced handheld arm, has been speaking about the developer's DS project currently underway in an interview with Next-Gen.biz.
Huge, monstrous beans spilled were not when it came to details on the DS title - an RPG - Tudge remaining somewhat coy on the info issue, but he did drop a few hints. He said that the handheld team is "planning a lot of big things" for the game, talking about a strong, story-driven experience and that the team will be taking advantage of DS's touchscreen, microphone and wi-fi features.
Tudge additionally spoke of how the "size and scope of a BioWare game is something that will have to be carefully thought of" when questioned on challenges of developing the game for the DS, suggesting that whatever's being cooked up will be a typical BioWare epic - even if it is being squeezed onto handheld.
But whether the DS game is based on an existing BioWare property or a brand new IP remains a mystery, although with the project apparently around a year away from completion it can't be too long before we find out. When it finally materialises, we can expect "the same hallmarks of quality and a well-written story... a lot of innovation in a lot of key areas within the BioWare methodology, as well as with the DS", Tudge promised.
In the interview, he also explained why BioWare has opted to focus on DS for its handheld venture, saying the machine "really presented the first sort of opportunity to really be innovative, and conducive to the very classic BioWare innovation in the RPG handheld space."
However, the PSP, and indeed other handheld devices, are not being ruled out for future handheld BioWare projects.
"Any handheld platform is open to us. It's really [about] what handheld platform fits our goals for the product. Really, that's what it's about... I certainly can't say 'no' to anything", Tudge revealed. "All I can tell you right now is that we'll be focusing on the DS for our first title."

New details revealed on Square Enix's DS titles through official websites
RPG giant Square Enix has unveiled the Japanese websites for its two DS exclusives, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and It's a Wonderful World.
Currently the Wonderful World site is nothing more than a teaser, whilst FFXII:RW has a little more info although it's naturally in Japanese... still you can check out some artwork of the two main characters Vaan and Penelo and download at wallpaper.
Most interesting is that the TGS trailer of the DS FFXII will go online within the next few days, so keep checking back to get your first look at the game in action.

Marvelous Interactive, parent to Rising Star Games, has revealed that it's working on several new titles for Nintendo Wii and DS, some of which we've heard of before. But they used the words "Harvest Moon" so we're powerless not to report.
Bokujou Monogatari - Harvest Moon - for Wii will see players use the remote control to sow seeds, plough land, cultivate crops and tend to farm animals. Frankly, other game developers, you might as well just give up now. It's over for you.
Less is said about fellow Wii title Heroes, but a quick word with the world reveals it's Suda 51 / Grasshopper Manufacture's Wii title, and is supposed to feature one of Killer 7's characters (well, personalities, presumably).
On the DS meanwhile, Marvelous has another Harvest Moon planned, which will see you build your own island and discover characters in 3D. You can read about that and its Wii pal elsewhere on the site.
Meanwhile Rune Factory - shin Bokujou Monogatari is another title based on Harvest Moon, but it's an RPG, with monsters to fight and dungeons to explore. This is not the first we've heard of that, either.
Finally there's Luminous Arc, a real-time tactical RPG, with Wi-Fi multiplayer.

Via the Guardian:
The publicity surrounding Chris Tarrant's marriage breakdown has led to a surge in sales for Nintendo's DS Lite console, for which the television presenter is advertising spots that include him forgetting his wedding anniversary.
Nintendo UK today said it had no plans to pull the £1m television campaign, which promotes the Dr Kawashima's Brain Training game, which has another three weeks to run.
A spokeswoman confirmed sales "jumped dramatically" last week at the height of the publicity surrounding the Who Wants to be a Millionaire? presenter's alleged extramarital affair.
"We have got no plans to change our Tarrant campaign," she said. "Sales jumped dramatically last week and we are very pleased with how the campaign is performing."
Tarrant yesterday confirmed he and his wife Ingrid had split. A statement from Mrs Tarrant is expected today.
The advert featuring Tarrant forgetting his wedding anniversary sees the presenter kicked out of the marital bedroom by his wife. He then uses the Nintendo console to help build his memory power.
Three other TV adverts with variations on the memory theme, created by agency Leo Burnett, are also playing across the main terrestrial and multichannel outlets in both daytime and prime time.
A print campaign featuring Tarrant looking thoughtful as he uses the console has finished.
A source said Nintendo had been kept aware of the situation regarding Tarrant's private life and was "very relaxed" about the situation.
"If I was Nintendo, I would be ecstatic that its profile had been raised by this," the source said.
In his statement, Tarrant said he was "deeply sorry" for the hurt he had caused his wife and children, and asked the media to give his family some privacy.

Likely spurred on by the success of Nintendo's own Brain Training games, Majesco has announced the development of two new games designed to improve basic thinking skills and reaction time. Both Brain Boost: Beta Wave and Brain Boost: Gamma Wave are being developed under the consultation of Dr. Makoto Shichida, creator of the Right Brain Development Theory.
"Each Brain Boost game offers a completely different set of fun, yet challenging, brain training problems that are designed to enhance your mental acuity," said Ken Gold, vice president of Majesco. "We believe a growing number of consumers are looking for more diversified game play experiences and the Brain Boost games will help attract a new audience to the category."
Each of these games focuses on improving memory, concentration, and logical reasoning through increasingly difficult exercises in speed and accuracy. Brain Boost: Beta Wave focuses on stimulating parts of the right frontal lobe often associated with active concentration and busy thinking. Games included in Brain Boost: Beta Wave include Find a Match, Shape Recognition, Addition, Remember Sequence, and Moving Dots.
Brain Boost: Gamma Wave, on the other hand, focuses more on activities designed to stimulate higher mental activity, including perception and problem solving. Brain Boost: Gamma Wave includes training games for remembering Circumstances, Faces, Images, Numbers, and Colors.
Developed by Interchannel-Holon, both Brain Boost: Beta Wave and Brain Boost: Gamma Wave are scheduled to ship in November for a suggested price of $19.99.

Following last week's surprise announcement through Jump Magazine, we've at last gotten a few solid details on Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu. As we detailed in our initial report last week, this spin-off of the latest numbered FF game is being developed for the DS.
Revenant Wings tells the story of Vaan and Panelo, two of the main characters from FFXII. Vaan is 18 years old in the game, and has just fulfilled his dream of getting his own plane. He keeps himself free of politics and family life and travels the skies as an air pirate. The 17-year-old Panelo serves as his navigator.
The game's director is Motome Torishima, who previously served as event planner on Final Fantasy VII, event director for Final Fantasy X and director for FFX-2. He's also working as director on Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3, so he's got some strong ties to the FF series. Serving as co-producer is Eisuke Yokoyama, the assistant producer on Dragon Quest VIII.
Torishima explained to the magazine the reason for putting this spin-off on the DS. Apparently, Torishima and his staff had taken note of a common scene throughout Japan: people playing the DS. They began to consider ideas for games designed for people who aren't into games. That's when the idea of a "My First Final Fantasy" came up.
To make a game suitable for inexperienced gamers, Torishima and crew planned to make something that uses the touch pen for control. They also decided to get rid of overly complicated elements from the battle system. While Torishima wouldn't provide specifics, he said we can expect a system that will allow you to defeat your enemies with minimal controls.
In addition to this vague promise regarding the battle system, we know just one detail on Revenant Wings. Flight will be a central part of the game. You'll be able to take to an air ship and travel through the land from the very start of the game, Torishima said.
Yokoyama and Torishima's details on the storyline were equally vague. The time frame of Revenant Wings in relation to the main FFXII story isn't important, explained Torishima, adding that the game's timeframe is merely an era when Vaan and Panelo were air pirates. The story of XII was, he admitted, that of Vaan and Panelo getting caught up in a storyline that was already taking place with Ashe and the other characters. In Revenant Wings, Vaan has the main character role all to himself.
Yokoyama added that the game isn't a sequel to FFXII. It's not, for instance, FFXII-2.
Famitsu doesn't have any screenshots of Revenant Wings, meaning we'll probably have to wait a bit for specifics on how the game will play. The Tokyo Game Show should provide for our first glimpse of the game, though, as Square Enix will be showcasing a trailer. Stay tuned for more details shortly.

Some new Sim City DS screens have surfaced, and if we weren't dying for this game before, we're certainly in danger of perishing now. The DS just seems like such an incredible medium for this title, and the screens have a familiar, almost nostalgic feel that brings to mind the old SNES game Utopia, particularly in the shot to the right.
Our (Google) translation isn't perfect, but it looks like this build of the game is not a port, but was designed specifically for the DS, so we can tentatively expect some really fantastic functionality. Further, there are changes to the game made specifically for the Japanese version. Once we get more detail on what those are, we'll let you know -- and that makes us very curious if English-language versions will feature similar additions.

Someone at Neogaf posted how to degloss his DS:
I do highly recommend working with a lamp if you decide to do this. You see to wipe off the dust and look at it at an angle to see where it's still slightly glossy. Once you work off the gloss it's a different kind of plastic underneath and scratches don't show.
For a last couple notes, I used one of those fluffy-feeling kind of paper towels to brush dust off the file now and then. It got it off best and would grab on the grit to let me know how much is left on the part of the file I was using.
Also, after you wipe off the dust, there is still going to be a very thin layer on the top that will make it look lighter. Just use your hand oil (it will soak up your hands dry) and when you rub it you should see the superfine dust form into clumps, it seems bluejeans are best for wiping this off, then use a finer cloth to buff it more.
I decided I'd leave the sides smooth and shiny because it looks kind of cool, it'll make sliding the power and volume easier and it'd be a pain to work on .

News from Gamepro
In addition to the lack of 4-player games, the only games to offer online support at this point are Mario Strikers Charged and Battalion Wars II, which the final number of players is still TBA according to the Official Wii site.
The lack of multiplayer support comes as a shock as the Nintendo Wii is capable of wireless internet connection straight out of the box. If the Wii is designed to be a family oriented gaming console, hopefully third-party developers will pick up the slack when offering more in the terms of online multiplayer support.

After this year's E3, Shigeru Miyamoto noticed that most people who played Twilight Princess played it by swinging the Wiimote in their right hand. So he made a decision: in the Wii version of the game, Link would be right-handed, although he's traditionally an elfin south paw... a character trait retained on the GameCube version of the game.
This is actually a bit fascinating. Link is left-handed: on the GameCube version, this makes him an enantiomorph. However, then he passes into the Mirror World, which would presumably flip him to being left handed again. However, the Mirror World would seem to be less just a horizontal-planed optical transposition of Hyrule than it's complete opposite. Oddly, even if Link were to remain otherwise normal, he would not be able to breath the air of the Mirror World or digest its food; he'd simply keel over dead seconds after entering.
For more fun with the paradoxes of normal individuals entering mirror worlds, go read Martin Gardner's The Ambidextrous Universe, kids!

News from Lik Sang
The Harvest Moon series has come a long way since its debut on the Super Nintendo in 1996. Over the years, virtual farmers were able to tend to their crops on a variety of systems, including GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, N64, PlayStation, PS2, GameCube and PSP. For those new to the franchise: what you are basically looking at is a life simulation title with RPG elements, where your main character's little world revolves around a farm, at which you work and interact with other members of your community, aiming at turning a small fortune in the process. Developer Natsume lets us all revisit Forget-Me-Not Valley, the setting known from the GameCube incarnation, Harvest Moon: Wonderful Life. After the Witch Princess has conjured up a prank that went too far, you are facing the task to restore peace in these familiar environments. Raise cows, sheep, chickens and ducks plus plant and grow crops and trees along the way, while attending newly included festivals. Fresh extensions, items and minigames are found in Harvest Moon DS on top!

Harvest Moon US Version for NDS is in stock and shipping within 24 hours for only US$ 39.90, eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion (like all import games at Lik-Sang). As the Nintendo DS is a region-free handheld, you will be able to play this game on any NDS system worldwide, no matter its origin; gaming bliss right out of the box!
Story and Gameplay Mechanics
The Harvest Moon storyline mostly follows a saga involving a boy bent on caring for his farm, a benevolent harvest goddess and an army of helpers known as "Harvest Sprites". In Harvest Moon DS, the before-mentioned evil witch has thrown a curse on the crop goddess, trapping her in another world. The Harvest Sprites in turn have followed the goddess into that alternate dimension and it's up to you to bring them back by, you guessed it: farming the heck out of the land. The Sprites themselves can aid with chores around the farm and some might even unlock new activities or important information. Each and every achievement, like a farm-related accomplishment (e.g. chopping so much wood, cutting so much grass), falling in love, raising a family etc. is a potential success that could bring one Sprite home. Once you discover a Harvest Sprite, you can visit their tree and request that they give you a hand with all things farming. The Sprites don't work for free, you gotta pay them with special medals which you buy or earn by beating the house in a poker minigame.

Time plays an essential role in Harvest Moon DS. Out in the sun, the hours fly. As soon as you enter a building or a mine, time will stop so that you can get your work done. 15 minutes of gameplay are converted into a day in-game. Shops will open and close, people gather at local points of interest and the weather messes with your crops and livestock as well. The NDS' twin screens are put to full use in Harvest Moon DS. View the action on the top screen, while the bottom one displays menu, comments and hints from helpful sprite characters. On the Touch screen, you can drag and drop items into various equipment slots and save or access farming data anytime by tapping icons. A neat thing is the "touch glove", which allows you to interact with your animals directly with the stylus, similar to Nintendogs. Players can pet, brush or sheer (sheep only) the animals entrusted to them. When it comes to controlling your character, you are given the choice of doing so with on-screen buttons as well, or rely on the more traditional way of using the hardware buttons.
While GameBoy Advance's Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town set the standard for the series on the go some three years ago, the updated engine, lots of fresh content and touch screen gameplay make the first NDS version a brilliant entry to fight for the title of the best of the series. One cool thing for owners of said GB Advance title or HM: More Friends of Mineral Town is that inserting one of these GBA titles into your Nintendo DS will unlock many surprises in Harvest Moon DS! It's a challenging, yet due to the mellow and fun soundtrack, also very soothing gaming experience. Get your crops in, keep your farm critters safe and look around for the love of your life; after all these years, Harvest Moon still provides us with a warm feeling and deciding to leave your virtual farm existence for longer periods might prove difficult. Harvest Moon on NDS will keep you at it for a huge stretch, it's charming and got sheep you get to boss around. An almost perfect alternative life awaits.

News from Lik Sang
Have you ever thought of what it would be like to walk around as a Pokémon? Now you can, with Nintendo's Pokemon Mystery Dungeon multi-title release (Blue Rescue Team for NDS and Red Rescue Team for GBA). Ok, to be historically correct, you were able to play a Pokémon in Super Smash Bros., but wait for what this game has in store... Developed by Chunsoft, we are presented with an actual RPG here. Your character wakes up one day to find himself to be one of those critters that Ninty has told the world since the inception of the franchise to "gotta catch 'em all". Now it seems to be the other way around: find yourself in an adventure game with semi-turnbased dungeon exploration, where you'll face the challenge of saving Pokémon who have gotten in trouble. Join the Blue Rescue Force on NDS and uncover the mystery behind what turned you into a Pokémon in the first place, meeting more than 380 of your fellow catchables on the way, as well as engage in strategic battles throughout your perilous journey. It's an unique take on the RPG side of things in the Pokémon universe for sure. Great visuals, a dramatic soundtrack and plenty of exciting environments to explore make Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for NDS the perfect handheld companion for fans of the series.

Shipping within 24 hours for free worldwide (free delivery, like all import games at Lik Sang), the US version of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for NDS leaves our warehouse for just US$ 44.90. Region-free by nature, any Nintendo DS system globally can be used to play this title. Red Rescue Team for GBA is in stock as well, available for just US$ 44.90. Both versions are similar, but you don't wanna miss out on the brilliant dual-screen action of the Nintendo DS game!
Building up to next week with the Japanese releases of long-anticipated RPGs Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl (both for Nintendo DS), it already feels like Pokémon festival here [Editor: Not that there is anything wrong with it]. Expect full Lik Sang coverage on these two highlights upon release!
NDS Blue Rescue Team: Features and Gameplay
At the start of the game, you'll take a quiz that determines what Pokémon you will become. Right there, you'll pick a first partner Pokémon, that you should choose so it compliments your own type well. Now that you've woken up in the body of a Pokémon and learn that you can freely communicate with others (beats listening to "Pika, Pika!!!"), Butterfree will ask you to rescue her Caterpie. And so the saga begins... After completing this mission, you form the rescue team with your partner Pokémon to go on a grand trip to help as many others as you can. Natural disasters are the main cause that endanger your fellow Pokémons and you need to explore dank dungeons and towering mountains in order to better the situation. The surroundings are lovingly crafted, with atmospheric visuals and charming animations. Having no trainers around means that your team will act on specific tactics you assign to each member. "Gosh, what to do without Poké Balls?" you might ask. Simple: convince others to join your team by defeating them in battle.

Players have various moves and items at their disposal to complete rescue missions and increasing their team's reputation on the way. Dungeons rely on randomly generated maps, guaranteeing a fresh experience every time you enter one. New moves can be learned constantly, which you can link together and execute in the same turn for example (but this costs more points). Customizing attacks and adjusting AI routines is part of the job as well. Failing in a dungeon will make you loose your money earned plus all items gained during your expedition. Thanks to the wireless multiplayer function of the Nintendo DS, other players can rescue a party lost. Exchanging written down passwords lets you help other players no matter what version (NDS/GBA) of the game they are on. If two Blue Rescue Team NDS users with their systems in sleep mode bypass each other, they will be automatically rewarded with a rare item!
After you've rescued a Pokémon, you head to Pokémon Square where you can access all sorts of shops and services. Buy items, store them, hone your combat skills in Makuhita Dojo etc. Friends Areas you need to buy to have a place to stay for the Pokémon that travel with you. The touch screen offers additional information, where you can also opt to use stylus control instead of the usual NDS button setup. Due to the general structure of the game you can easily go for quick-shot sessions, if you don't have time for hours of exploring; the game can conveniently be saved each time after you've saved one critter. All in all, it's a great time for followers of one of Nintendo's most successful brand, with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team on NDS providing a solid Roleplay experience that will keep you glued to your handheld. What are you waiting for, gotta rescue'm all!

Ubisoft officially announced today that the Wii version of its jungle first-person shooter will now go under the name Far Cry Vengeance and be a Wii launch title.
The game is heavily based on the Xbox's Far Cry Evolution, although the company promises to expand on the experience with a new storyline, new maps and new weapons, whilst of course taking full advantage of the Wii-mote.
Ubisoft gave us a run down of features to be expected from this new version:
Wii Unleashed - Dig deeper into the power of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk through survival tactics that include driving, shooting, jumping, balancing, climbing, grenading, and Far Cry's ever-popular Feral attacking.
Weapons - Choose from a variety of weapons in a struggle to endure the rebel-infested jungle. Take down an unsuspecting victim from behind with a machete or meet the fight head-on with your machine gun.
Vehicles - From ATVs to hovercrafts, pickup trucks to Jet Skis, drive over, around, and through vicious combat situations.
Interactive Environments - Utilize the lush, tropical surroundings to your advantage, using stealth to sneak through the foliage past unsuspecting rebels.
Unleash the Wrath - Feel what its like to be the predator, not the prey, as you unleash the beast within. Jump higher, run faster, and slash with more fury than all of your enemies combined through the animalistic feral abilities unique to the Far Cry series.
Multiplayer - Challenge your friends in Far Cry: Vengeance's frenetic Chaos mode as you battle to be the last person standing.
This is all well and good, but to be honest judging from these two screenshots, things don't look particularly improved from the Xbox version.
We'll let you know more when we get to playtest the game.
