[Derecho] grabbed a PAL format Super Nintendo but wanted to make it play nicely with a 60 Hertz NTSC screen. His hack added a single switch to choose between 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
Take a look at the image above to see his alterations to the mainboard. The jumpers soldered to the two chips at the top are by far the trickiest part of the project. Each of the pins he soldered to needed to first be lifted from the PCB pad so that they no longer make contact with the etched traces. The technique he used involves heating the pin with an iron, then gently lifting it with a pin or a razor knife/blade. If you’ve got some experience populating SMD boards with a handheld iron this shouldn’t prove too difficult. The rest of the hack involves adding a 3-position switch (along with a 2k2 resistor) to choose between output modes based on what format game is being played.

Developer sees the game as a gift to Nintendo console owners
The developer bringing the old school fighter Retro City Rampage to the WiiWire, Brian Provinciano, says he doesn’t expect to profit from this version of game because of the costs involved with porting the title.
And he’s told Nintendo Life that he’s fine with that.
“Between the office rent, hardware, insurance, game ratings and other costs, had I not done the WiiWare version, I could’ve saved around $20,000 – not even including my salary in porting it,” he said.
“And as it stands, virtually no games hit the threshold these days, so it's only being released as fan service. A $20,000 gift to the fans.”
Provinciano had to acquire office space to work from, despite being a solo act, before being allows access to a WiiWare development kit.

Publisher and platform holder disinterest prompted project cancellation
A planned Wii U version of shooter Crysis 3 has been canned after a lack of interest from EA and Nintendo, Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli has said.
“We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it,” Yerli toldVentureBeat.
“But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don't have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.”
Wii U has been subject to a number of misses when it comes to ports from PS3 and Xbox 360. Following a poor critical and consumer reception for Aliens: Colonial Marines, there was speculation that its scheduled Wii U version would be cancelled, but as it stands the title is still believed to be in production.
Nintendo has been positioning Wii U as a machine for core gamers, investing money to get titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed III and Call of Duty: Black Ops II on the system.

Square Enix could be on the verge of announcing a Wii U version of sci-fi epic Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
CVG spotted a listing for a “modified” version of the title with the Australian Classification Board, which it speculates could be for DLC or possibly even a Wii U port.
The latter theory might seem a bit extreme, but asEurogamer points out, Australian studio Straight Right has previously confirmed that it is working on a “big” Wii U port – a project that was later confirmed as a Square Enix game.
Straight Right was the outfit behind the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3, a game that was mechanically sound even if it did perform well below expectations at retail.
The port, if confirmed, would be welcome news for the console, which has been shunned by recent multiformat action releases such as Crysis 3.

Supermarket giant Asda has cut the price of Wii U, with the Premium Pack with Nintendo Land now on sale for just £249.
The supermarket chain has also cut the 8GB Basic set to £199, with ShopTo also going below the £200 mark. Both retailers hope the reductions can help stimulate sales of the hardware.
Wii U has struggled to gain traction in the market since its launch last year, performing below expectations for a new console. The price cut arrives ahead of the launch of some overdue Wii U titles, namely LEGO City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3.
The offer is available from the Asda Direct website.

Ubisoft chief executive Yves Guillemot has pledged to continue supporting Wii U but believes the system must perform better to draw more investment. "We think Wii U is a great machine. But it just has to sell more," Guillemot told MCV.The experienced publishing executive revealed that the company's upcoming cross-generation title, Watch Dogs, is being developed for Wii U with an expanded development team following an impressive unveiling at E3 2012."E3 was a great revelation for Watch Dogs," Guillemot said. "It gave us a chance to increase the whole project, giving the studio the chance to have bigger teams to help them achieve this goal they have. You always have great ideas, but you need enough people to bring it to life. After E3, we really made sure they had all the teams they needed and all the capacity they wanted to fulfil their dream."Ubisoft recently triggered controversy by announcing that Rayman Legends, previously a title exclusive to Wii U, would be released for all current gen consoles in September. In January Nintendo slashed its Wii U sales forecast and admitted that there is a lack of sales momentum with the system.Wii U accounted for about 1.6 per cent of UK game sales in January, while it has been reported that the console sold "well under" 100,000 units the US during the same month.

Pandamar is an extremely rare Famiclone version of Super Mario Bros 1 (NES) that makes Mario look like a panda with a really bizarre but cute appearance, now released for the first time as an IPS patch. Changes nearly all the graphics in the game. Also includes really annoying repetitive original music. Can be combined with other Super Mario Bros patches to create strange hybrid versions

Hebereke is a rather silly non-linear platformer by Sunsoft, released on the Famicom in 1991. It plays similarly to Blaster Master or Metroid, in that you must traverse a rather large world in search of new characters and powerups in order to access new areas. The game was popular enough that it spawned an entire series, and Hebe (the main character) remained Sunsoft’s mascot in Japan for much of the 1990s. The game was released in Europe and Australia in 1992 under the title Ufouria, with significant changes made to the story and two of the main characters; a U.S. release was planned, but eventually cancelled.
This patch completely translates all of the dialogue, including the intro and ending sequences, and fixes a couple of bugs present in the original game. It has been tested on the PowerPak and works flawlessly with the latest mapper files.

GBA.js Git (2013/03/04) is released. Jeffrey Pfau released a new GameBoy Advance emulator. The project began last July. The first prototype took him five weeks. But it has worked for several weeks and several hours a day online prior to the first public version. The program runs on JavaScript. It is available online and works in a modern web browser. It runs on Chrome 20, Safari 6.0, Firefox 15 + (without sound) or Opera 12. It should also run on Internet Explorer 10. Firefox and Opera are particularly slow, it is better to use Safari or Chrome.
As a matter of law, no rom is provided on the official website. However, you can load these roms on your machine. The emulator does not handle compressed files. So please only download roms decompressed. The application sometimes crashes if the file has special characters.
Currently all parts of the GameBoy Advance hardware are implemented. You can save and load backups, send on your machine or your machine. GBA.js is able to take screenshots. It can set the emulation paused. It supports games containing real-time clocks (eg Pokemon).
GBA.js Git Changelog:
* Don't compare a string and a number...
* Fix exception-raising case in hex()
* Forward compat--test for ScriptProcessorNode

Minecraft could be coming to PlayStation but is unlikely to arrive on Wii U, Mojang’s Jens Bergensten has revealed.“Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles,” said Bergensten, who is lead designer of Minecraft Pocket Edition for iOS and Android. ”When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.”Speaking to iGamer, Bergensten also confirmed that his team is working on bringing the Minecraft Pocket Edition experience closer to its PC counterpart. “Our current ambition is to get the so-called online multiplayer going,” he said. “This means that you’ll be able to connect to dedicated servers, instead of only connecting to other people’s devices.”He also explained how difficult it is to bring Minecraft’s mobile edition to such a huge number of different devices. “The biggest challenge has been, and still is, finding the lowest common denominator for all the various mobile models there are on the market. It’s an obstacle to a lot of features that we have on the PC version, such as infinite worlds and redstone contraptions. Over time we’ll have to drop more and more models in order to add fun stuff to Pocket Edition.”You can read more from the Mojang interview in the new issue of iGamer, which is available on the App Store now.

Still trying to solidify that reputation as the office Grinch? This project will let everyone know you’re a complete jerk in no time. It’s called . It detects when someone enters your office at which point it starts to play the Super Mario Bros. theme song while the display counts down 400 seconds. Just like in the game the music gets faster at the end and when it stops they know it’s time to get the heck out.
The hardware inside isn’t too complicated. An Arduino and a Wave shield do most of the work. The song played is stored on an SD card and can easily be changed. There’s a speaker mounted under the top heat vent of the enclosure. The device defaults to displaying the time of day, but monitors a motion sensor on one side to detect when someone comes through the door. This also works when someone leaves, cutting off the music and resetting the display. Don’t miss a video of it in action after the break.
It’s as if this was made specifically for the Comic Book Guy

Nintendo is working on at least one project that will utilise the Wii U GamePad's built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality as a matter of high priority. That's according to Mario creator and Nintendo senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto, who told Polygon that the firm has made NFC functionality "a priority".NFC is a technology used to pass small amounts of data wirelessly between devices, and is perhaps most iconically used by Activision's Skylanders games to make figurines placed on an NFC-enabled pad appear in the game world. The GamePad contains an NFC chip, but a game that uses it is yet to be announced."With NFC, that's a feature that everyone that owns a Wii U can take advantage of," said Miyamoto."So that's what we're putting our priorities right now. We're hoping that in the near future we'll be able to show you something that will take advantage of the NFC on Wii U and people will be able to enjoy that."Miyamoto also revealed that Nintendo is working on games capable of using multiple GamePads."With regards to the two GamePads functionality, from a gaming system standpoint we are developing games that will have that capability," he said.So far, Wii U games only use a single GamePad, and only one GamePad is supplied with the console with no option to by a second one separately at retail - presumably due the expense of a controller containing a touch screen and its many other innards (Note: multiplayer games are achieved using Wii U Pro Controllers and/or Wii Remotes). Because of this, Miyamoto plays down the viability of dual-GamePad support being a system that's fully utilised any time soon."In the future, perhaps when we get closer to something that, an environment where everybody or a large majority of people would have two GamePads, that might be a time where we look at how we can leverage a system of that nature."

Nintendo has released a minor Wii U system update. The update, dubbed Version 2.1.3 U, makes "further improvements to overall system stability," according to Nintendo's patch notes. The patch is not the previously announced Wii U speed optimisation update, which is set to arrive across two downloads in April and later this summer. Those updates will also introduce the new Virtual Console - boasting games from classic consoles including, for the first time, titles released on Game Boy Advance.Speaking during a Nintendo Direct broadcast in January, company president Satoru Iwataapologised to Wii U owners who believe the loading times between selecting a game and playing it are far too long.Iwata also detailed a number of enhancements designed to make the Wii U game experience more social."The fun of video games is not only just playing games, but also sharing experiences together with people - even though they live far away, their skill levels are different or their experience does not happen at the same time," He said."We want Wii U to be the system that brings everyone together."

Hyperkin's new RetroN 4 console is designed to play NES, SNES, Genesis, and Game Boy Advance cartridges. It's compatible with both PAL and NTSC formats, has dedicated controller ports for NES, SNES, and Genesis controllers (and uses its own Bluetooth controller), and uses HDMI output. A special UI built into the console allows users to reassign buttons, among other things.
More details about the console will be revealed at the Midwest Gaming Classic in Brookfield, Wisconsin on March 23. That includes pictures of the device.
Who ever thought you could get away with announcing a new console, the fourth in its series, with details of its functionality but no pictures of the console itself? Honestly.

Chrono Trigger is one of the most beloved RPG’s of the SNES era, and arguably of all time. It is the story of 3 teenagers that, while venturing through different eras in time, discover that the future lie in ruins due to an attack from a monstrous, evil beast named Lavos. They set out to save their world and future by defeating this monster. Along the way they travel to many time periods and make friends that will help them in their quest.
This project began in November of 2012 and was just a way to test what could be done w/ the editors that were available. It was set to be an update to the author’s preferences. As the game is viewed as “kid friendly” being that any reference to alcohol is changed to soda or lemonade in the pubs. This project was designed to correct that and make the reality of the game more consistent with real life. Due to learning of what bugs these programs can cause only as they come up during testing, this release is the fifth go through of the project, ie version 1.5 In the end most of the dialogue available in the game and in the endings had been changed one way or another. With a few ideas and desires for “better” weapons and armor, all of the deleted equipment has been made available in the game. As this was not done w/ temporal flux, the only way to put them into the game is via enemy drops/steals, so no treasure chests have been added or changed. Some of the already existing equipment in the game has been changed as well, either by name, parameters, or both. Also, enemies have slightly increased hp while giving less exp & tech points. Enough to make gameplay a little more challenging, but not enough to be considered a “hardtype.”
This hack contains spoof elements naturally as the author is a vulgar comedian. There are cuss words, adult situations, sexual references, and humor that may be offensive to some. It is not overdone, and the dialogue should not come across as “forced” to fit a joke in. Player discretion is advised.

Supercard DSTwo's NDSGBA source has long been sought after, but so far any attempts at gaining access to it have been unsuccessful. So, after a campaign for the source to be released for the community to improve upon, Nebuleon, Normmatt, and BassAceGold have decided to take initiative, and have been busy with a WIP port of gpSP Kai for the DSTwo. At this point there is no public release, but the code repository is available for people interested in making useful contributions. Please join the on-going discussion linked below for full details about how to get involved with this new GBA emulator project. Current State (03/05/13) said: Improvements (these are not in the official NDSGBA, and are in TempGBA) - The loading screen appears for a much shorter time, 0.5 second instead of about 5 seconds.
- ROMs load faster, 2x-3x, even (and perhaps especially) in zips.
- The GUI is using the 8 languages from CATSFC, as well as the images from it.
- The file handler has widened names, scrolling faster and sorting correctly (imported from CATSFC).
Regressions (these are in the official NDSGBA, and don't work in TempGBA) - SRAM (battery-backed saving) may or may not work.
- Saved states can be created, but halt emulation when read. They may be malformed.
- The Cheats option in the main menu leads to an empty menu. Absolutely nothing is hooked in for cheats.
- Rewinding and button remapping don't work.

Wii U should be cheaper to enable publishers to sell more games on the platform, says Ubisoft’s executive director for EMEA territories Alain Corre. When asked if he’d welcome a price cut, Corre told us: “Always. We always want the hardware to be at a low price because we want as many fans as possible to afford to buy our games, so that’s for sure. We think that Wii U will find its public at some point. Some were expecting sales to be quicker but we are optimistic.”“I think Nintendo has said that the Wii U sales in general were below expectations originally and the software tie-in ratio is also stable, so I think that when less machines sell, less games sell.”Though there have been increasing calls for a price drop after a muted launch for the platform, Corre described Wii U’s launch as ‘productive’ for Ubisoft, emphasising that the publisher has always been a strong supporter of new hardware.“It’s part of the Ubsoft DNA to be first on new technology and to innovate – and also release some games that have created some good momentum that we can use for the future. If we globalise all that we did and consider all of that then what we did on Wii U for launch was productive.”Ubisoft recently took former Wii U exclusive Rayman Legends multiplatform, delaying its release until September in order to bring the game to PS3 and Xbox 360. Corre also told us recently that Watch Dogswould be taking on GTA V in the open world genre later this year. He was speaking as part of an interview to be published in full later this week.

Near Field Communication will feature in an upcoming Wii U product announcement from Nintendo.
That’s according to none other than Nintendo design boss Shigeru Miyamoto, who told Polygon that the tech has not been forgotten despite third party products – such as Activision’s Skylanders and Disney’s upcoming Infinity – choosing to ignore it with their launch games.
"With NFC, that's a feature that everyone that owns a Wii U can take advantage of," Miyamoto stated.
"So that's what we're putting our priorities right now. We're hoping that in the near future we'll be able to show you something that will take advantage of the NFC on Wii U and people will be able to enjoy that."
Miyamoto also confirmed that Nintendo is currently developing titles that will allow two users to play simultaneously on different GamePads streaming from the same machine.
"With regards to the two GamePads functionality, from a gaming system standpoint we are developing games that will have that capability," Miyamoto added.
"In the future, perhaps when we get closer to something that, an environment where everybody or a large majority of people would have two GamePads, that might be a time where we look at how we can leverage a system of that nature."

Back in mid-2012 when the Wii U was this mysterious futuristic device, Nintendo showed off a bevy of features for it and while most of them have emerged, there's a couple that never saw the light of day. Perhaps its most notable missing feature is near field communication (NFC) support, wherein real life physical objects can be read by the GamePad simply be being placed in close proximity to it.This technology is best known to gamers for its use in the Skylanders franchise in which a diorama reads info from figurines. This tech will also be used in Disney's upcoming mega project Disney Infinity. Last summer a Rayman Legends trailer was leaked that teased the ability to give the limbless hero health or spawn more enemies by placing toys with their likeness on the unique controller.According to a report by Polygon, Nintendo is still working on NFC integration and it remains a greater priority than another advertised but missing Wii U features, the ability to play with two GamePads."With NFC, that's a feature that everyone that owns a Wii U can take advantage of," Shigeru Miyamoto told Polygon. "So that's what we're putting [as] our priorities right now."
Regarding dual GamePad support, Miyamoto said games are in development that will take advantage of that feature, but it's not a priority because we're not at a stage where people will want to purchase a (rather expensive) second controller just yet."With regards to the two GamePads functionality, from a gaming system standpoint we are developing games that will have that capability," Miyamoto said. "In the future, perhaps when we get closer to something that, an environment where everybody or a large majority of people would have two GamePads, that might be a time where we look at how we can leverage a system of that nature."Now the question remains: will we get an NFC-supported Pokémon game? It's "catch 'em all" mentality would certainly lend itself well to the tech.

Meglomaniac has released a new Arcade Emulator for Gamecube:
this is just the initial screen...there will be more improvements
right now its just semi-automated for compiling which works very well
but it semi-automated...meaning to compile specific game drivers or hardware, it is still a very tedious manual editing process within the source...
...but...
i think i just thought of a workaround method to make this script more powerful to allow fully automated process using only this menu with no need to enter the source directories and no need to manually edit anything...
we just need to identify which driver combinations and how many drivers can be packed together in a single dol to keep the overall size low...and also identify which specific drivers need to be built as separate dols...

Wow what a fantastic resurgence for the Nintendo Gamecube homebrew and emulation scene. Meglomaniac has found a port of Sopwith to the Gamecube, heres the release details:
Sopwith is a 2D CGA action game from the annals of DOS history where you fly a little biplane around bombing stuff and shooting down evil magenta-colored enemy planes. Gamecube Sopwith is actually a port of Simon Howard's 'SDL Sopwith', which in turn is a port/rewrite of the original DOS Sopwith by David L. Clark.
i found this game today during searching for other stuff...
its a fun little game...
so simple, so challenging...

[Brian] has brought together a powerful collection of hardware to build a robot. The end goal is to have a robot that’s controlled by a Wiimote.
The Wiimote communicates over Bluetooth with a Raspberry Pi, which is running a Python script. This script uses the CWiid Python module to communicate with the controller, and [Brian] has detailed instructions on getting the Wiimote working with a RPi. The RPi controls an ATmega based development board over SPI, which drives an h-bridge to control the two DC motors that move the robot.
[Brian]‘s code for this could be helpful for anyone looking to control their RPi with a Wiimote. Since Wiimotes and Bluetooth dongles are fairly cheap nowadays, this is a great way to drop in wireless control to any RPi project, or even to control your media center from the couch.
After the break, check out a video of the build in action

Japanese Wii U consoles have run into a nasty error involving the eShop: error code 105-3102. Essentially it blocks the console from the eShop, but also prevents affected consoles from updating their firmware. Nintendo is currently working on a fix, the company stated. In the above video, prominent Japanese YouTuber MEGUMIbernadette demonstrates the issue on her Wii U console. As you can see, accessing the eShop is impossible with error code 105-3102. Nintendo is hoping to issue a fix "by the end of this week." As of now, this problem seems to be isolated to Japanese Wii U consoles, but if you've been hit and you're outside of Japan, feel free to drop us a line.http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/07/er...-updating-fir/

F-Zero GX for GameCube was one of a pair of games. It was released concurrently with F-Zero AX, a game designed for the Sega/Namco/Nintendo "Triforce" arcade platform, which connected to the home game via memory cards to unlock tracks. AX had arcade-style timed gameplay, along with those tracks.
Well, not only are AX tracks accessible in GX via memory card (and impossible-to-find arcade game), modder "Ralf" found that the full code for the arcade game is hidden on the GameCube disc – and accessible with a series of codes for the Action Replay cheat device. The long list of codes is found on The Cutting Room Floor (a site which, if this is your first visit, you're welcome).
Now, someone go peek in Mario Kart: Double Dash and see if Arcade GP is in there.

Multiple ratings for Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse indicate the classic Sega-developed Genesis platformer is getting a digital re-release. An Australian Classification Board rating for a PS3 game by the same name popped up this week, while Pockett.net spotted Brazilian classification ratings from last month for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Vita.
A couple of other Sega retro games turned up with ratings recently; we sawmultiplatform ratings for Game Gear platformer-puzzler Tails Adventure earlier this week, which was soon followed by an ACB rating for fellow Game Gear entry Crystal Warriors - thatcame to Japan's 3DS eShop last month.
It seems likely Tails Adventure and Crystal Warriors are headed for the 3DS Virtual Console in the west. However, bearing in mind Sega's penchant for bundling retro re-releases,does Castle of Illusion point towards an 'Illusion' collection, with Land of Illusion and World of Illusion also on the way? Let's hope so, if only for all the Arrested Development clips we could link to.

Umihara Kawase is a bizarre series about a young girl with a fishing line. It's been released on Super Famicom, PlayStation, DS and PSP in Japan, and nowhere here – though there are ways to get it. It's the kind of gameplay you know from Bionic Commando, but focused entirely on the grappling.
Members of the original team have reunited for a sequel on 3DS, Famitsureports. Called Sayonara Umihara Kawase, the latest release appears to maintain everything that makes the series what it is: insanely complex grappling/line physics, weird fish enemies, and abstract level designs.
The new version adds multiple versions of the main character, including a 20-year-old Umihara, and unlockable costume items for completed levels. The 3D character models don't look great, but this game was never much to look at anyway.
A new Umihara game is exciting in its own right, but it's also another opportunity for someone to localize it. Natsume tried with the PSP version, but it never happened – and that was probably a wise choice given how that game turned out.

Mario creator and Nintendo senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto has said the firm will release a Wii U update to improve the system's interface performance 'by this summer'. "Since the system was released, we've spent a great deal of time looking at how people are using it and where they feel it can be improved, and we're currently continuing out preparations for this first major system update that's coming," he said in an interview with Time."What we want to do is make sure that when we release it, that we address as many of the different opinions about how people would like to see the system improve as we can at once. We hope to cover a wide range of requests while simultaneously ensuring it's a very stable update to the system," said Miyamoto. The Wii U's system user interface has been widely criticised for its long load times when switching between games, on-board applications and menu screens.Speaking during a Nintendo Direct broadcast in January, company president Satoru Iwata apologised to Wii U owners who believe the loading times between selecting a game and playing it are far too long.Without offering a definitive date, Miyamoto said, "We think that by this summer, the system is going to be very much improved over how it's performing currently."Miyamoto recently told press that Nintendo is working on at least one project that will utilise the Wii U GamePad's built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality as a matter of high priority.

An image that appears to reveal a new Assassin's Creed project has found its way online. But what is Assassin's Creed: Rising Phoenix? It's unclear if this is a new game or spin-off.Ubisoft's best-selling series has regularly been expanded via tie-in books, comics and short films. The background of the image appears to be CG, with the logo of the Erudito Collective (a group which opposes series baddies Abstergo Industries) clearly visible.Text on the image mentions "Ubisoft Digital Arts", a section of the company that previously worked on live-action Assassin's Creed 2 tie-in AC: Lineage.Ubisoft may be planning a similar project to link in with this year's Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. We know that the modern day portion of the game takes place within Abstergo's walls and that players will take on the role of a researcher within the company. It's the latest in a string of Ubisoft leaks, which saw details of the recently-announced Black Flag appear online before the game's official unveiling.Eurogamer has contacted Ubisoft for more information.

FCEUX v2.2.1 is released. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.
FCEUX v2.2.1 Changelog:The 2.2.1 release fixes many bugs and adds a couple of new features. The most notable feature is "Auto-resume old play session", which is similar to "Suspending Play". Nintendo's creative mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto says Pikmin 3 ought to have been a Wii U launch title.\
He told Time Magazine, that the line-up was not 'as robust' as he'd have liked, and a triple-A, high quality game like Pikmin would have helped
He said: "If you look back at the launch of Wii, we were able to prepare a game like Wii Sports, which at the time was clearly a new game, and launch that alongside a Zelda game. With the Wii U, we took a similar approach by launching Nintendo Land as well as a Mario game — though we’re working on Zelda for Wii U, that’s going to take us a little big longer.
"From my perspective, I think ideally it would have been nice if we’d been able to release Pikmin 3 closer to launch, but the Wii U — though it shares the Wii name — can do a lot more, and in the process of developing a lot of the features, the resources required to best utilize those features drew on some of the same resources that might have been spent developing games, thus we weren’t able to bring quite as robust a line-up initially."
And Miyamoto hinted there's some innovative new concepts coming from Nintendo. And didn't rule out the possibility of creating a new character, either:
"Whenever I start working on something I always start with creating new gameplay. After that gameplay becomes more concrete, we look at which character is best suited to the gameplay. The ideal situation would be that we’re creating an experience that’s so unique that we can present it to consumers with a new character or IP in a way that would be easiest for them to really understand the concept. But it may also be that in some of those cases it makes more sense for it to involve some of the characters that are more familiar to our fans.
"When we created the original Wii Sports, we could have done it as a “Mario Sports” game, but we decided not to. Similarly with Wii Fit, that could have been a “Mario Fitness” game.
"It may be that in the future, as we’re generating new ideas, we’ll come across an idea that makes the most sense to release with a new character."

Nintendo is working on a number of original animated shorts based on thePikmin franchise. Designed to be viewed on 3DS, the shorts will be released before the launch of Pikmin 3 and will either be given away or sold through the eShop."We really just want to take advantage of the Pikmin characters," Shigeru Miyamoto, who's overseeing the creation of the cartoons, toldPolygon."We have started selling Shaun the Sheep videos, so we're continuing to look at ways to expand the eShop offerings. Nintendo 3DS is great for viewing 3D video content so we wanted to look at ways to expand that offering."The first short will show Captain Olimar eating what looks like a Pikmin, but turns out to be carrots."When Olimar first discovered the Pikmin he named them based on the PikPik brand carrots in his home world, so he clearly loves carrots," Miyamoto said. "I thought it would be fun to have a scenario where it seems like he is going to eat the Pikmin. So it's kind of dark, but he doesn't eat them."Nintendo confirmed a Pikmin 3 delay last December. The highly anticipated strategy game had been due to launch during the first calendar quarter of 2013, but will now release in the April to June window.

Nintendo design guru Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that the Wii U software library isn't yet as strong as he'd have liked, but says the platform holder is investing significantly in game development. Speaking to Time, Miyamoto suggested that the expense of getting to grips with the new platform impacted on the resources the company was able to dedicate to the development of games to launch alongside the system last year."From my perspective, I think ideally it would have been nice if we'd been able to releasePikmin 3 closer to launch, but the Wii U - though it shares the Wii name - is obviously a brand new system, with new chips and graphical capabilities," he said."It can do a lot more, and in the process of developing a lot of the features and functionality, the resources required to best utilize those features drew on some of the same resources that might have been spent developing games, thus we weren't able to bring quite as robust a lineup initially."Miyamoto added: "At the same time, we still have new things to learn about how to leverage the features and functionalities of Wii U in ways that create fun and interesting new ways to play, including new gameplay systems. As we become even more familiar with the hardware, we'll be able to do more from a software standpoint. That's an area we're currently devoting resources to."Nintendo confirmed a Pikmin 3 delay last December. The highly anticipated strategy game had been due to launch during the first calendar quarter of 2013, but will now release in the April to June window.Miyamoto said last week that Nintendo is currently prioritising the development of NFC-enabled Wii U games over those that support dual GamePads, and that the company hopes to show off its work in this area soon, even hinting at a possible reveal ahead of E3 in June.

UK online games retailer ShopTo has cut the price of the basic Wii U console by £60 (about 25 per cent) following disappointing sales of Nintendo's latest system. ShopTo is offering the 8 gigabyte White Basic Pack for £190 - while the Black 32GB Premium pack is on sale for £280. This discount offer follows retailer Asda's decision to cut the price of both models by £50.CVG understands that the Wii U trade price has not changed, however. It was previously claimed the trade price for the basic model was £205, meaning that - if the number is accurate - retailers are selling the systems at a loss.A stuttering start to the Wii U launch has placed pressure on Nintendo to offer more appealing software as well as lower stock prices.Wii U games accounted for about 1.6 per cent of total UK software sales in January, and it has been estimated that North American Wii U sales came in between 45,000 and 59,000 units during the same month.Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently pledged to continue supporting Wii U, but said: "We think Wii U is a great machine. It just has to sell more."In January, Nintendo lowered its annual Wii U sales forecast from 5.5 million units to four million following weaker than expected demand for the console. However, company president Satoru Iwata moved quickly to rule out the possibility of a Wii U price cut.

Mario creator says developing meaningful GamePad interactions is key to Nintendo's strategy
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
Nintendo has a plan to boost the Wii U's flagging momentum at retail, and it starts with showing off just what the system can do. Speaking to Polygon, Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto said Nintendo can do more for the system in terms of added features, a solid software lineup, and demonstrating the value of the system's second-screen controller, the GamePad.
"We're really focused on delivering content that takes advantage of that GamePad interaction and makes that second screen something that's very meaningful and so that's where we need to put our focus," he said. "So we're going to continue in the coming months to enhance the system, develop the system, and then also put our primary focus on developing strong content to make the Wii U a very appealing piece of hardware that I think when we get a couple years down the road it's going to seem very natural for people that Wii U is the system that they would have connected to their living room television."
Miyamoto said that players can expect some improvements to the system this summer. Nintendo has previously pledged to release system updates in the spring and summer to cut down on loading times, but that apparently won't be all. Miyamoto suggested that Nintendo would unveil the first use of the GamePad's near-field communications abilities this year.
However, other anticipated features are further out on the calendar. Miyamoto said the company was developing games that would support two GamePads, but that the timing wasn't right to bring those to market soon. As for cross-play using a 3DS, the designer merely said Nintendo is exploring the different ways it could leverage communications between the 3DS and the Wii U.

Most TV stands don't have the space for the litany of home entertainment equipment we have these days, much less three different gaming consoles. Well, Ben Heck has decided to do something about it in a special three-part series: by cobbling together a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360 and a Wii U and housing them in an all-in-one custom enclosure that would set any gamer's heart aflutter. The first step to this "Ultimate Combo Gaming System" is to tear everything apart, which is what Heck does in part one of the series, available to view downstairs. Let's just hope he'll repeat the process once he finally gets his hands on that mythical PS4...

Nintendo's golden goose Shigeru Miyamoto said that the console manufacturer didn't focus on online play until recently because it "would have limited the size of the audience that could enjoy those features."Shigeru Miyamoto.
This outlandish statement came out of a Q&A Miyamoto recently did with the New York Times. When asked about what he found most exciting about games right now, Miyamoto replied, "For a long time at Nintendo we didn't focus as much on online play because for many years doing so would have limited the size of the audience that could enjoy those features. But certainly now we see that so many people are connected to the Internet. It opens up a tremendous amount of possibilities."Yes, you heard that right. Finally, in 2013, enough people have the internet.Regarding the Wii U's disappointing sales, Miyamoto isn't sweating yet. "I think that the Wii U still has a long future," he said. "We really view it as being the ideal device that families are going to want to have connected to that screen in the living room that everyone is going to gather around and watch. Certainly in the short term I would want to see it performing with probably a little more momentum. I think in the long term I'm not at a point where I'm concerned yet."While the Wii U has failed to ignite the market, this isn't the first time a Nintendo product has sold poorly at launch only to pick up momentum later. Both the DS and its true successor, the 3DS, sold poorly on arrival before selling like gangbusters as the years went on. But the console market is more competitive and expensive and it's hard to say if the Wii U will be able to keep up.Ultimately, Miyamoto admitted that, "entertainment is an unpredictable industry" and "Nintendo's stance, over all, is that we don't know where entertainment will take us next."

Despite its unbelievable popularity in Japan, Capcom's Monster Hunter series hasn't taken off to the same degree in western countries. Not to imply that the games don't have a dedicated stateside following – rather, the numbers just can't compare.
With Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's North American release on the Wii U and 3DS right around the corner, Capcom will be attempting to grow interest in the brand the old fashioned way, by going to shows and talking to people about the game face to face.
"We have a full on booth, a Monster Hunter dedicated booth, at PAX, we have a Monster Hunter dedicated booth at Wondercon, we're also going to be attending C2E2 in Chicago, we have events that we're planning on doing at Capcom's offices in the near future," senior product marketing manager Laili Bosma told us during SXSW Interactive. "We're also looking to hopefully do a summer tour with Monster Hunter across the country."
Bosma gave the off-screen/cross-region post-launch patch announced in February as an example of how Capcom is actively listening and responding to the needs of western audiences. "Capcom is very dedicated to the brand, obviously in Japan being as huge as it is. But, the team is also dedicated to trying to make it work here in the US," Bosma said, though she recognizes that there's no magic fix for transporting popularity overseas.
"It's not magical, it's not going to happen overnight," she added. "My goal here is to try to get as many people to experience it first-hand, and for us to answer those questions as much as we can, and then hopefully grow that audience one person at a time."

Mobile boom doesn't preclude strong next-gen sales, argues Zelda creator
If customers want games enough, they're more than willing to shell out for a new device, says Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto.
The creator of Mario and Zelda told the New York Times that although he'd rather see more momentum on the Wii U, he think's it's a device that will sell well in the long run.
"We really view it as being the ideal device that families are going to want to have connected to that screen in the living room that everyone is going to gather around and watch," said Miyamoto.
"Certainly in the short term I would want to see it performing with probably a little more momentum. I think in the long term I’m not at a point where I’m concerned yet."
Miyamoto points out that entertainment is an industry that ranges from amusement parks to hollywood blockbusters, and says this diversity brings unpredictability.

Nintendo’s design boss Shigeru Miyamoto insists that he remains confident about the Wii U’s long-term prospects.
He does concede, however, that he had hoped for a better performance than the machine has achieved to date.
“I think that the Wii U still has a long future,” Miyamoto toldThe New York Times. “We really view it as being the ideal device that families are going to want to have connected to that screen in the living room that everyone is going to gather around and watch.
“Certainly in the short term I would want to see it performing with probably a little more momentum. I think in the long term I’m not at a point where I’m concerned yet.”
Miyamoto also made the bizarre claim that Nintendo has until now largely ignored the possibilities offered by an enhanced online infrastructure because the internet was simply not popular enough.
“For a long time at Nintendo we didn’t focus as much on online play because for many years doing so would have limited the size of the audience that could enjoy those features,” he argued.
“But certainly now we see that so many people are connected to the internet. It opens up a tremendous amount of possibilities.”

It seems Nintendo has made good on its promise to utilise Wii U’s NFC tech by announcing a new Pokemon title that uses figures.
Eurogamer reports that Pokemon Rumble U, which was first announced last month, will allow players to purchase Pokemon figures that unlock in-game characters.
The use of the GamePad’s NFC tech has not been officially confirmed, but you can be almost certain it will feature.
Seven figures have been confirmed, with the first being Pikachu. The toys themselves will record game info internally. The core game will sell at a discounted ¥1,800 (£12.60) and the toys at ¥200 (£1.40) each.
There’s no word yet on a Western release for the game.
Nintendo will be counting on the allure of the still-popular Pokemon license to counter rival products from Activision and Disney. Of course, one advantage Pokemon Rumble U will (presumably) have is that it will not require an external ‘portal’ device to connect the toys to the console – meaning it will be able to undercut its pricier rivals.

We’ve sure been seeing a lot of original NES cases used in projects lately. This time around the thing still plays the original cartridges. This was one of the mains goals which [Maenggu] set for himself when integrating the LCD screen with the gaming console. There is a quick video clip which shows off the functionality of the device. It’s embedded after the break along with a few extra images.
To our eye the NES looks completely unmodified when the case is closed. The cartridge slot still accepts games, but you don’t have to lower the frame into place once that cartridge has been inserted. The image above shows a ribbon cable connecting the top and bottom halves of the build. It routes the signals for both the LCD screen and the cartridge adapter to the hardware in the base. He mentions that he used the original power supply. We’re not sure if the original motherboard is used as well or if this is using some type of emulator.

In 2011, former Sony employee Seijiro Tomita launched a suit against Nintendo, claiming the 3DS infringed on a patent he holds to display 3D visuals without glasses. Today, a federal court in New York decided to award Tomita with $30.2 million in damages for Iwata and Co.'s infringement. The house that Mario built unsuccessfully argued that it didn't rely on key parts of the patent, and that Tomita was just one of several folks it met with when it was looking into 3D tech in 2003. Nintendo's pockets are certainly deep enough to handle the sting, but we can't imagine it's a welcomed loss with sales forecasts taking dips.

Nintendo's Flipnote Studio (aka Moving Memo Pad) brought shareable animated sketches to users when the wildly popular free app first launched for the DSi console many moons ago. Now, Nintendo's brought it up to date for Japanese 3DS users with Flipnote Studio 3D, supporting stereoscopic 3D images with three layers of depth along with six colors. As before, wannabe animators in that country will be able to share their artwork in AVI or GIF formats with friends on the 3DS network at no charge, or post to a larger audience on the Hatena World Flipnote Gallery for a fee. You can check the video after the break for more, but it would help to understand Japanese -- or be able to parse YouTube's inscrutabletranslation.

Nintendo of America has confirmed plans to offer more free download content to Fire Emblem Awakening owners "all the way through spring". Nintendo will continue to push free content to users via the system's always-on SpotPass feature. The first of this content arrived for US players today; a new map called 'A Hard Miracle' apparently "follows the story of Fire Emblem Awakening main character Chrom as he encounters a mysterious woman and sets off on a journey with her to rescue a group of kidnapped villagers".On March 28, Nintendo will release 'Ghost of Blade', "a haunted tale about a ghost and the ultimate sacrifice", followed by 'The Wellspring of Trust' on April 11 which will add "a map full of challenging enemies".'The Radiant Hero' will release on April 25, which is set "on an isolated island as Chrom and his allies search for a legendary hero".Nintendo says it will also offer additional free content in the form of "special weapons, additional playable characters and bonus challengers for the game's Double Duel multiplayer mode" in the coming weeks.

Nintendo of America has hinted at an upcoming US release of a special edition Nintendo 3DS XL featuring Pikachu.
Polygon reports the company has run out a handful of teases, included the one pictured, pointing to an upcoming launch for the bright yellow hardware.
Nintendo first teased the model in a recently premiered commercial for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, which arrives in North America on March 24th.
Further, a photo of a retail shipment of the 3DS XL in question has leaked, with rumour that it will arrive on the same day as the launch of Mystery Dungeon.
The Pikachu 3DS XL originally released in Japan in 2012, landing in Europe later in the year.

[Akira] can play any Game Boy, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, or SMS game while on the go thanks to all the work he put into this portable gaming hack. The outside seems familiar; it’s an original Game Boy case. But you should immediately notice that it has a few extra buttons. That’s the first clue that what’s inside isn’t stock… which is a huge understatement.
The idea for the project started off rather simple, but quickly got out of hand (check out the build log for full details on that). He thought it would be nice to have a backlight for the original screen. After mixed results he scrapped the original mainboard and started anew with some Nintendo DS Lite hardware. It had a broken LCD connector so he tried a couple of different fixes to get it working again. After some success he started adding more equipment, like the extra pair of buttons, a better speaker on the battery door, and the microSD add-on you can see above.
You can catch a demo of the finished goods after the jump.

Poor American Pokémon trainers that have been eying up eBay listings and import sites can breathe a sigh of relief. Nintendo has announced that the special edition yellow 3DS XL -- emblazoned with Pikachu, no less -- will arrive in the States before the end of the month. Priced at $200 and packaged with a 4GB SD memory card, it'll arrive the same day as the latest Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game -- that's March 24th if you've got your pokédiary out. Walmart, Target, GameStop and Toys R S will all be stocking the handheld, although quantities are limited, so get your trucker cap, pokéballs and unerringly small backpack ready to brave those chains in a few weeks.

GameStop president Tony Bartel says the US retailer has experienced "slower than expected" Wii U sales since Christmas. The executive told Forbes: "Following the holiday launch period, sales have been slower than we expected."Nintendo plans on launching some of their biggest IP over the next few months which we think will increase gamer interest."Notable upcoming Wii U titles include this month's Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, while Pikmin 3 is slated for release in the April to June window.3D Mario and Mario Kart games for Wii U will also be shown for the first time at E3 in June.Asked what he thinks Nintendo needs to do to compete with Sony and Microsoft this autumn, Bartel added: "Software will play a big role in each console's success over the holidays. We're already seeing great developer and publisher support for PS4, so Wii U will need some great titles, especially first-party titles, to compete."There's also a need to increase consumer awareness of the new features available on the Wii U and its tethered tablet features."In the past few weeks, multiple UK retailers have taken it on themselves to slash the Wii U pricein a bid to stimulate sales.Nintendo president Satoru Iwata flatly ruled out the possibility of introducing an official Wii U price cut in January.

Disney Infinity signs on in North America on August 18, with the international release in most regions set for August 20. Speaking to the New York Times, Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants said the multiplatform game's two month delay from an initial June window was one of "opportunity" rather than necessity.
"We could deliver in June if we wanted to," Pleasants told the New York Times. "Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops."
When approached, Disney Interactive provided us with the folllowing statement from Pleasants: "We have moved the launch date for Disney Infinity to August 18 to capitalize on the critical fall retail season."
A Disney Interactive spokesperson also told Joystiq the UK release date is August 23.
Disney Infinity, which incorporates physical Disney toy figures and spans many of the company's high profile properties, looks a powerful competitor to Activision's Skylanders series. While the New York Times reports Pleasants "downplayed comparisons" between the two franchises, he did say ofSkylanders Swap Force's fall release that "it's good to be first and really lean into the most important selling season of the year."

It’s not been a good morning for Wii U.
The console is posting a historically poor performance in the US and leading retail figures are urging action to reverse the slide.
Now Nintendo’s digital strategy is being questioned after it was revealed that gamers hoping to download LEGO City Undercover will need to purchase an external hard drive to do so.
Eurogamer reports that a rumoured file size of 22GB is to blame. The entry-level Basic Wii U ships with just 8GB of storage (just 3GB of which is free) while the Premium offers 32GB (with 25GB free).
It’s a bitter pill to swallow after Nintendo’s lofty promise of a concrete and competitive digital ecosystem for the console and makes a bit of a mockery of the console’s simultaneous digital and retail release strategy.
Considering that Xbox 360 and PS3 ship with hard drives with anything up to 500GB, the Wii U’s storage provisions look baffling at best.

March 15th, 2013, 22:15 Posted By: wraggster
Estimated sales of just 64,000 units in February have left Wii U facing up to the reality of being the worst selling new console in two generations.
Many had expected a better performance last month after an influx of pre-owned units on the market in January was blamed for poor sales at the turn of the year.
In fact, Gamasutra reports that sales in January were so poor that Wii U posted worse numbers than were ever seen with PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, Xbox or Wii.
Interestingly the only console that has in recent memory posted comparable numbers was the GameCube, and only then when the machine was on its last legs and its successor had already been announced.
Xbox and PlayStation machines have only ever posted similar numbers in weeks before a price cut was scheduled to be introduced.
Voices of dissent from within the industry are growing increasingly louder, with the perception being that Nintendo has to act quickly if Wii U is to reverse its fortunes.
Big hopes are now pinned on upcoming Wii U exclusive LEGO City Undercover, which hits the UK on March 28th. The game has a fairly decent 79 per cent average on Metacritic, but with Wii U’s install base still disappointingly small the game will have to hit the status of system seller if it is to have an overtly positive impact.

Wii U’s poor performance in the February US market has been compounded by worrying noise from the country’s leading games retailer.
“Following the holiday launch period, sales have been slower than we expected,” GameStop president Tony Bartel told Forbes. “Nintendo plans on launching some of their biggest IP over the next few months which we think will increase gamer interest.
“Software will play a big role in each console’s success over the holidays. We’re already seeing great developer and publisher support for PS4, so Wii U will need some great titles, especially first-party titles, to compete. There’s also a need to increase consumer awareness of the new features available on the Wii U and its tethered tablet features.”
Nonetheless, Bartel remains optimistic that the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft will enjoy a far stronger start to life on the High Street.
“It will be huge,” he replied when asked what impact the machines will have. “Dollars are flowing towards new technology so we believe gaming consumers are ready for innovation. We expect these new console launches to re-energize the entire industry.
“Video gaming is much more mainstream now than it was at the start of the last cycle, so there are a lot more dollars to fight for this time around. I also think consumers’ expectations for technology improvements are much greater now than it was seven years ago. Finally, gaming is becoming increasingly social, so continuing to expand the connection to other gamers will be key.”

Zen Studios has finally provided a concrete date for Zen Pinball 2 on Wii U in North America: Thursday, March 21. The free download will be available on the eShop next week, which lets you sample all available tables in Zen Pinball 2's vault for a limited amount of time before purchase is necessary.
Tables are purchased piecemeal through the in-game store, tables including the stock game tables and DLC such as the Marvel Pinball series and the Plants vs. Zombies tie-in. The freshly minted Star Wars tables have not been announced for Nintendo platforms, so naturally there's no mention of them in the announcement.
Finally, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that purchases on other platforms won't transfer over to the Wii U. Zen Studios offered cross-play on PS Vita and PS3, but since the 3DS and Wii U use different stores, transferring already established content from the handheld to the Wii U is impossible.

Fire Emblem Awakening shifted 180,000 units across its debut month at North American retail, Nintendo of America tells us. In a statement sent to Joystiq, the company said the tactical 3DS RPG enjoyed best ever first month sales in the franchise's nearly 23-year history. No doubt that was helped by a strong eShop uptake of 63,000 units, which comes in at 35 percent of total sales.
Considering the series' last entry, Shadow Dragon, sold just over 250,000 units in North America to date, Awakening's sales bump over here is impressive, much as we thought the game was in our review. We awarded Awakening four and a half stars, deeming it "the best soap opera since CBS canceled Guiding Light," which is certainly saying something.

C aH4e3 updated his site with the following message:
CaH4e3 обновил свой сайт следующей информацией:
- Super Real Bout 97 (Unl)[!]. Bought this cart a long time ago, but wasn't able to dump it by the unknown reason. Today has plugged it into the dumper and did it surprisingly very easy. It's another 121 mapper game, so you can play it on most modern emulators. Basicly it's a modified version of the well known "Garou Densetsu Special".
- GLK Book 48-in-1 (Unl)[!], Magistr-Genie 2 (Unl)[!]. Two more education cartridges follows. Both on the same 178 mapper, but the second one just a little more interesting, because of extra sound chip on it's PCB, used for the speach generation. Actually, I don't know exactly the chip's type, but suspect that it's an ADPCM voice codec and data that sent to it by the program actually is a command flow for the speech samples selection, not an actual sound data. I'd like to be wrong, but if not, we can't play it without samples extraction. So I put this here, maybe someone can make it play. Some of this cartridge's programs are english-russian dialogues or interactive bilangual stories.
- DreamGEAR 101-in-1 (Unl)[U][!]. Nothing special, just another one DreamGEAR clone with the original crappy games.
- Super Mario Bros. 2j (Alt)(Unl)[U][!]. Nothing special part 2, just another FDS conversion of SMB2j. This time it's an alternative lite version just with 40K or PRG and 8K of CHR ROMs, so most probably something is ripped there.

The publisher of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor: Overclocked has expressed its desire to publish predecessor Devil Survivor 2.
However, in a candid blog post Ghostlight has admitted that the weakness of the European DS market may prevent the release. That’s not to say it isn’t working on a plan, however.
“Currently the European version of the game is finished and has been approved for release by Nintendo,” a statement said. “However, without going into too much detail, retail support for DS titles is understandably low at the moment making it difficult for us to release the title.
“We haven’t given up though and we’re currently looking into several different ways of making this fantastic game available to you all. One way that I’ve heard being discussed on the Ghostlight grapevine is that we may release a Collector’s Edition of the game exclusively through our website which will mean we’d need your full support in making this release happen.
“I’ve probably said too much already, but you can expect more news on this in the coming weeks.”

March 18th, 2013, 21:52 Posted By: wraggster
The self-perpetuating circle that is denting Wii U’s chances on the market has claimed two more victims.
Firstly, Saints Row IV publisher Deep Silver has confirmed to Polygon that the recently announced Saints Row IV is not due to make an appearance on Nintendo’s machine.
Secondly, fans of Dead Island: Riptide (which incidentally is also a Deep Silver game) have also been told not to expect a Wii U release for that title.
"One of the opportunities we had for Riptide was to continue the development of the engine, and really improve it and make a lot of refinements," creative producer Alexander Toplansky told Digital Spy.
"The things that are required to bring something to a new platform, you need to either really get to be integrating it deep into the engine, or you've got to [do] a port.
“Neither one of those was a satisfactory outcome for us, so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can."

A number of big releases will this week enjoy significant discounts on Nintendo’s Wii U eShop digital game store.
Ubisoft has cut the price of all of its Wii U games, with big-hitters Zombi U and Assassin’s Creed III cut from (the admittedly extraordinarily high) £54.99 to £29.99.
Several have also been cut from £39.99 to £19.99 – Just Dance 4, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, Rabbids Land, Sports Connection and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013.
The cuts come as retail continues to discount the Wii U hardware in an effort to try and stimulate UK sales.

Nintendo will launch the US 60Hz version of Punch-Out!!, the next Wii U Virtual Console release in Europe. The decision follows fan fury at the inferior 50Hz version of Balloon Fight launched on the PAL eShop in January.Nintendo of Europe subsequently shifted to the US 60Hz version of F-Zero last month, a policy it is evidently continuing.Punch-Out!! launches on Wii U eShop this Thursday, priced just 30p (€0.30).Also on the eShop this week - digital versions of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (on Wii U priced £49.99/€59.99, on 3DS priced £39.99/€44.99) and Need for Speed: Most Wanted U (£44.99/€59.99).There's a huge sale on Ubisoft games too, with ZombiU and Assassin's Creed both nearly half price (£30 instead of £55). Enjoyable downloadable-only title Little Inferno is cut-down in price again as well.

GBA.js Git (2013/03/19) is released.
* New pulldown audio code
* Fix code copied from console to debugger
* Fix "off-key" audio
* Infrastructure for more views

505 Games has dated upcoming release Ashes Cricket 2013.
The game will be released on June 21st on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. That gives it plenty of run-up time in preparation for the commencement of the Ashes itself on July 10th.
The game features a number of dynamic features such as seaming wickets, deteriorating pitches and changeable weather that reflect real-life scenarios – cloudy days will favour bowlers, for instance, while a dry sunny day is good for batsmen.
“We are delighted to be able to announce some of the key features for Ashes Cricket 2013,” 505 Games’ general manager for UK and export Ralph Pitt-Stanley stated.
“This game has been created with real cricket fans and players in mind. The new engine allows players to mimic a cricketers most important attribute, his technique.”

Shovel Knight will make its way to Wii U and 3DS if it reaches its Kickstarter funding goal. The game was previously announced for PC. Shovel Knight is in development at Yacht Club Games, a group of WayForward (Aliens: Infestation,BloodRayne: Betrayal) expats, who are currently at $32,000 of a $75,000 goal, with 25 days to go.
For those who want a Wii U or 3DS copy of the game, they'll have to pledge $15 of more, instead of the $10 that'll net a PC copy. Why? Yacht Club says it's due to the extra costs involved in console development (they aren't fibbing), like paying Nintendo for download codes, along with dev kits and certification requirements.
If you're heading to PAX East this week, Shovel Knight should be on display and the devs tell us they are "hopeful" it'll be playable.

March 20th, 2013, 23:54 Posted By: wraggster
Publisher Square Enix has confirmed that Wii U is getting an exclusive Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut, promising the “best looking” version so far. We’re not convinced the “striking visual improvements’ promised by the company will outshine the PC version of the game, but exceeding the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases shouldn’t be an impossible task. It’s been co-developed by Straight Right, the studio that handled the Wii U version of Mass Effect.More promising than that, though, is the news that the director’s cut will feature overhauled boss battles, though exactly how they’ve been overhauled is as yet unclear. The controversial, outsourced segmentscaused ire among players when the game was released.Director’s Cut will, of course, also feature a raft of bonus features, including developer commentaries, in-game guides, the Missing Link DLC, a New Game+ mode and GamePad functionality.“The first thing we said when we decided to make a version for the Wii U was that we didn’t want to do a port. That’s really important,” executive game director Jean-François Dugas tells Official Nintendo Magazine during an interview in the next issue, out April 10. “It was not about, ‘Oh yes, just put it on there and that’s the end of the story,’ that would have been disrespectful for the fans and it would have been disrespectful for the Nintendo fans.“For us, it was important that we were envisioning an ultimate version in which a lot of modifications would be made, and also lots of new content would be added as well. So it was important to find a company that would think like us and would want to go the extra mile to make this version the ultimate version of the game.”

A recent retail promotion that saw Wii U drop to an all-new low price has been extended.
GameStop last Friday announced a deal that saw the 32GB Premium Wii U available for just £244.97. However, the retailer has now said that it has extended the offer “while stocks last”.
GameStop has previously admitted to disappointing sales of the Wii U, with president Tony Bartel stating: “Following the holiday launch period, sales have been slower than we expected. Nintendo plans on launching some of their biggest IP over the next few months which we think will increase gamer interest.
The retailer also has a promotion running on Microsoft’s the Halo 4 Limited Edition Xbox 360 S console that can currently be had for £214.97 – that’s a £45 discount on the previous price.

Square Enix has officially confirmed Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut for Wii U.
Furthermore, it describes the release as offering “striking visual improvements” that make SKU the “best looking” version available.
This statement likely does not refer to the already lovely PC version, but is still impressive if the game has bested the visuals seen in the 2011 Xbox 360 and PS3 outings.
It will also include overhauled boss fights – a move designed to appease those who were critical of the boss battles found in the original release.
Being a Director’s Cut release it will also include developer commentaries and in-game guides, while special use of the Wii U’s GamePad is of course a given. It will also offer Miiverse integration.
The publisher has said that the Director’s Cut release will not appear on any other systems.

Nintendo has finally removed the faintly ridiculous age gate imposed on european eShop customers.Prior to today, 18+ rated games such as ZombiU could only be purchased between 11pm and 3am due to legal issues stemming from Nintendo of Europe being located in Germany.“Following analysis of the Parental Controls system on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in cooperation with USK, the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, it was deemed that Nintendo’s Parental Control system was found to have proved itself in practice,” Nintendo told European customers.

Of course the sassy answer to any retailer telling you Wii U is ‘GameCube all over again’ is ‘What? Some of the most praised first-party games ever and the world’s most refined home console?’
But in this day and age, a handful of decent games and a good bit of kit doesn’t cut it. Despite great reviews, the critics are ready to write the Wii U obituary already.
Hopefully, Nintendo’s imminent efforts to work with UK retail and reverse the downward momentum will bear fruit.
Retail has had real cause for concern, though. The sales just haven’t been there. Sure, other publishers can get more money out of a smaller base of dedicated fans, but Nintendo can’t because there aren’t enough games for its users to buy.
These broad issues around Wii U aren’t the fault of the UK office, which is now charged with exciting retailers once more.
There have been some baffling choices higher up the chain.
Most telling for me was when the firm used a Nintendo Direct broadcast to apologise for lacking post-launch games. “The scope of development is getting larger. We cannot take on the same approaches we had in the past,” said president Iwata.
"Maybe now is the time for Mr Iwata to dig deeper
into Nintendo’s pockets. Not to find money to
write-off Wii U, but spend on more internal
development, spend again on large-scale
marketing, cushion the blow of a price cut,
or even simply buy something." Has the company not been paying attention at all in the current generation? Did it completely miss the uprising of small games from indies and on mobile? Or the 3DS launch? Was it oblivious to Ubisoft’s impressive use of seven studios at a time to heave-ho! the likes of Assassin’s Creed onto shelves each year?
Nintendo HQ is now dipping into its ocean of profits, paying third-parties to plug the gaps in its slate. Luigi’s Mansion 2, LEGO City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3, for instance, are not from its Kyoto braintrust.
Maybe now is the time for Mr Iwata to dig deeper into Nintendo’s pockets. Not to find money to write-off Wii U, but spend on more internal development, spend again on large-scale marketing, cushion the blow of a price cut, or even simply buy something.
People shouldn’t want to see Nintendo fail. Because when Nintendo does well, the games industry does well. Its mission to widen the games population is crucial to everyone.
Despite the obvious pressures and distractions of digital, there’s a Nintendo-shaped hole in the market Nintendo needs to fill. Its latest current crisis has come at the same time as an overall dip in the market’s fortunes. I don’t think this is a coincidence. And neither should you.

Via MCV
Nintendo UK has pledged to meet with retailers worried about the performance of its Wii U games console.
Growing dissatisfaction towards the new hardware has seen retailers Amazon, Asda, ShopTo and GameStop slash £50 off its price. But even that has failed to stimulate sales.
“We have taken the decision to reduce the price of the Basic Wii U to test the market and assess the impact of a price change for a short period of time,” ShopTo purchasing director James Rowson told MCV. “This has resulted in a smaller than desired increase in sales at this stage.”
Meanwhile, some chains have told MCV that it will be ‘looking at’ the amount of shelf space it gives to Nintendo platforms.
“Currently Nintendo has not lost space, but their mix of sales is down,” says a top buyer at one of the UK’s biggest games retailers. “We are looking to reduce slightly but must admit their silence on strategy is deafening at the moment. They’ve got to do something otherwise it is GameCube all over again.”
Nintendo has told MCV that it has a plan to stimulate Wii U’s performance in the UK. And that it will meet all its retail partners in the coming weeks to reveal its strategy.
“We’ll be speaking to our retailers directly over the next few weeks to take them through our plans for building Wii U momentum over the course of 2013,” said a Nintendo spokesperson. “We have a strong and broad line-up of software launching this year and we look forward to updating – and exciting – our partners over the coming weeks.”
Wii U has suffered from a poor release schedule since debut. This week marks the first new software from Nintendo for the platform since January. Releases include LEGO City and Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate.

March 23rd, 2013, 23:02 Posted By: wraggster
Finally the Western media seems to have understood Japan’s favourite game. Despite countless million domestic sales on 3DS, PSP, Wii, Wii U, PS3 and PS2, and a whole genre of hunting-action rip-off games, Capcom’s Monster Hunter series has garnered a passionate but small following in Europe and North America, with many of the entries never even being localised. But the European release of Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS this week has seen a raft of reverent reviews. Edge gave it a 8, and other specialist outlets scored it similarly highly. Even dailies such as The Telegraph have sung its praises, with a well-informed 4/5 review touting the game as “essential”.In Japan, Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate is already old hat. The 3DS version was released as Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G in December 2011, and fans had already clocked up hundreds of hours of play by the time the HD version was released as a Wii U launch title in December (with a special Ultimate bundle in addition to the Basic and Deluxe models you got in the West).Indeed, hunters in Japan had been expecting to be playing Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS around now, until the release was pushed back to summer 2013. Those of us who played a demo of the forthcoming title at Tokyo Game Show 2012 noted a host of new character moves that lend more of an action feel, as well as new and enhanced weapons – and new monsters to bloody them on. Who knows, if Ultimate’s newfound positive media spin in the West translates to actual sales, you may eventually get Monster Hunter 4 too.Monster Hunter creator-producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Kaname Fujioka are presumably now in crunch mode for Monster Hunter 4, as they’ve given few interviews to the Japanese media these past couple of months. Fujioka told Famitsu last September that he was happy with fan feedback from the TGS demo of its latest project. “Although we’ve added new features such as being able to jump, long-time players seemed to find the game comfortable to play,” he said. It’s just as well, because these more nimble action elements will likely be a big part of the next Monster Hunter, refreshing the series for millions of devoted gamers. “This time, rather than wanting to stop and look around the field, we hope to craft it in such a way that players will want to run around and explore,” said Tsujimoto. Players will also be able to attack while climbing walls or even clamber onto a monster’s back for a dose of close-up violence.

Nintendo's Wii U is currently on sale for an all-time low price on the UK High Street.
HMV is selling the Wii U Premium bundle including copies of both NintendoLand and Ubisoft's ZombiU for just £199.99. That's a £140 discount on the RRP.
In-store POS confirming the price was spotted by MCV reader Andy James at the chain's Stoke on Trent store. Of course, with HMV in dire straights and its gaming aspirations up for question, the price could in part be driven by a desire to empty warehouses of video games stock.
The price significantly undercuts GameStop's £244.97 – the previous lowest price the machine was available for.
The move comes after MCV yesterday revealed that retailers are increasingly dissatisfied with the console's performance in the UK.
“We have taken the decision to reduce the price of the Basic Wii U to test the market and assess the impact of a price change for a short period of time,” ShopTo purchasing director James Rowson stated. “This has resulted in a smaller than desired increase in sales at this stage.”
UPDATE: CVG has word that the price promotion will begin on Monday March 25th and run for as long as stock lasts.

Hyperkin has developed a reputation for modern takes on legendary game consoles that are often better than the real thing. If true, its just-unveiled Retron 5 is a nostalgia singularity. The hardware emulator can use its namesake five cartridge slots to play original games from no less than nine vintage consoles, including the Genesis(Megadrive), NES (Famicom), SNES (Super Famicom) and GameBoys from the original through to the GameBoy Advance. It keeps going: there's a custom Bluetooth controller that can handle every system, mix-and-match original controller support, save states and upscaling for both video (to 720p, through HDMI) as well as audio. While we'll have to see just how well the Retron 5 works whenever it exists as more than a conceptual graphic, that opportunity may come quickly when Hyperkin is tentatively shooting for a July release at less than $100. About all that's left for a follow-up Retron are Jaguar and Turbografx 16 slots -- pretty please?

It may not be a new game, but Capcom is celebrating Mega Man's 25th anniversary with a collectible statue, which it announced during its PAX Eastpanel this weekend. Capcom offered a few photos and details about the statue, which you can view in the gallery below.
The collectible character stands at 10 inches tall, and is made by Multiverse Studios. It features USB-powered LED lights on the statue's base as well as Mega Man's helmet and arm cannon. Capcom hasn't said exactly how many will be produced, but there will be under 2,000 of them made. It will go on sale exclusively at San Diego Comic Con in July.

Renegade Kid is most recently known for the side-scroller Mutant Mudds, but initially came to prominence with Dementium and Moon, both first-person shooters for DS. The developer is returning to its handheld horror roots withCult County, a new FPS for 3DS unveiled at PAX East.
The developer posted some 3D images on its website, which you can see by going here with your 3DS browser, or using the QR code here. The page notes that these images are from an early "atmosphere" demo. The atmosphere is, it would appear, dusty.

Eidos Montreal didn't mess around when it came to fixing one of the most widely criticized aspects of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in the upcoming Wii UDirector's Cut.
"The boss fights are now as they should have been," Emile Pedneault, game designer on the Director's Cut told us today at PAX East. "We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them."
He continued, "You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet."
Pedneault showed us the first boss fight, pointing out all the different ways that it could now be completed using other skills beyond "throw every grenade in your inventory and just keep shooting." There are several corridors now for stealth attacks and turrets for hacking, along with other goodies for players to discover.
The boss fights were widely criticized when Deus Ex: Human Revolutionoriginally launched, with Eidos Montreal eventually admitting it farmed out that portion of the game to an outside developer. Deus Ex DLC "The Missing Link," bundled with the Wii U version, designed in-house at Eidos Montreal gave a far more flexible experience.

via http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=198808
It's a big week for new releases, what with the Pikachu Limited Edition 3DS XL system now available, a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and my personal pick of the week (perhaps of the year), Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon!
So let's kick things off with the new release deals.
Before we dive in, a quick reminder - Club Nintendo is offering a fantastic promotion for anyone who purchases and registers both a 3DS XL system and either Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. Not only will your registration garner you a ton of Club Nintendo coins (a 3DS XL qualifies for 160 coins alone), you'll also receive a select free downloadable 3DS game from a line-up including Super Mario 3D Land and Star Fox 64 3D! Your registrations must be entered by April 30th to qualify.
(By the way, if you've already registered a 3DS XL, but did so on or after February 14th of this year, you can still qualify for this offer if you register one of the two games before the deadline.)
One of the best sources for new release deals this week - especially if you're looking to snag everything in one place - is Toys R Us. Not only are Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity part of their Buy 1, Get 1 40% off sale, they're also offering the Pikachu Limited Edition 3DS XL for $179.99 - an immediate discount of $20 - along with a $20 gift card! Unfortunately, the gift card offer is only available in-store. Also, some items are currently not available online, although - in general - the online selection is much larger than in-store. There are also online shipping costs to contend with, even if many sale items may qualify for free in-store pickup. Still, if you have a local TRU store in your area, this is a great way to get the most bang for your buck.
Another great offer for the new Pikachu Limited Edition 3DS XL system comes from Target. With a straight-up discount of $40, you can pick up the system for $159.99. A very nice deal, but like TRU, it's in-store only at the moment - looks like it's currently out of stock online. Hopefully they'll refresh their online inventory soon (which often happens with Target's website), as the system qualifies for free shipping.
Last up for new release deals is Kmart. While they're not offering the Pikachu themed 3DS XL, they are providing some small price breaks on the new games. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is ad listed at $34.99, with the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title listed at $29.99. This is $5 saved per title - not exactly great, I'll give you that, but hey - lunch at Mickey Dees. Kmart is (kinda) making these offers available online, with similarly discounted prices, although you're stuck with in-store pickup and/or $0.99 shipping.
And there ya go! Some terrific new release discounts to be had, although most are going to involve some real-world brick-and-mortar shopping. Can't always enjoy the convenience of online, I suppose.
Moving on to the other sales and promotions this week. From Walmart, you'll receive a $20 gift card with the purchase of a Wii U Basic or Wii U Deluxe system. Online, this offer allows you to upgrade to the ZombiU Wii U Limited Edition Deluxe bundle - very nice! Walmart has also ad listed their exclusive Skylanders Giants figure, Molten Hot Dog, at $9.96. This little guy includes free in-store pickup. Another notable is a price drop for 3DS Adventure Time - you can now own the game for $19.96.
Along with the Limited Edition Pikachu 3DS XL, Target is also offering a price break on standard edition 3DS systems, discounted to $129.99. If you're shopping Skylanders, you should check out their in-store only Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale on figures and accessories. Though, if you were hoping to pick up the exclusive Jade Flashwing figure displayed in this week's ad, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. Target's website has issued an ad update, stating these figures are sold out and no rain checks will be issued. Such are the disappoints of Skylanders collecting.
Best Buy is offering a number of largely unremarkable Nintendo related promotions this week - dance and Disney games, primarily. Most of these you'll find worked into their ongoing Big Spring Cleanup sale, which still features a number of fantastic deals, although the best are now limited to in-store pickup. Perhaps their most notable offer of the week is a $10 price break for the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate - it's available for $29.99 shipped.
Kmart is offering a Buy 1, Get 1 50% off all video games priced $19.99 or less. They're also offering various price breaks on New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario Kart 7, DS Adventure Time, and Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure for Wii and 3DS. Shipping is either $0.99, free with in-store pickup, or free with an order of $59 or more, depending.
Along with their Buy 1, Get 1 40% off sale and aforementioned Pikachu Limited Edition 3DS XL deal, Toys R Us is offering a number of Nintendo related discounts this week. You can purchase a standard edition 3DS XL for $179.99, or the smaller 3DS for $149.99. Buy these in-store and you'll receive a $20 gift card as well! If you're Skylanders shopping, purchasing a Skylanders Giants character 3-pack or Battle pack will earn you a free Skylanders Show & Go Case. Yeah, that's right - you know you want it.
As for Amazon - they're doing their own thing, which isn't much, really. Meaning the usual compliment of Disney, dance and Lego discounts. But as far as their standardized sales go, this isn't a bad one. There are a number of more recent titles in the mix, including Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for Wii (arguably the best version of the game) for $17.00 shipped. They've also thrown in Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion for $17, 3DS Lego Batman 2 for $15, and Wii Lego Lord of the Rings for $15. But the standout is their Skylanders Giants Starter Pack offers, with the Wii U and 3DS versions available for $34 each, shipped!
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper installment of Online Game Deals without some Amazon price matching. So far, Best Buy's $29.99 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate (shipped) and Walmart's $19.96 3DS Adventure Time have been matched. Time will tell if others occur this week - you can always take a look here and see if anything has changed. And that's a wrap! As always, you'll find a mega-list of game deals after the jump. I'm off to do some coin grinding in Galaxy 2 - thanks for reading.

Mind Candy partners with Sheffield-based developer for third title in popular children's franchise
A third Moshi Monsters game is set to be released later this year, Mind Candy has announced.
The title will be for DS and 3DS, with independent UK studio Sumo Digital hired for development duties.
The Sheffield-based developer is best known right now for last year's Sonic All-Stars Racing and Nike+ Kinect Training, both of which have been quite good. They also created the Doctor Who Adventures titles for the BBC.
The new game will launch in Q4 in the UK, US and Australia and is coming to DS and 3DS. There's no word on the game's name, gameplay details or if there will be any other platforms for the franchise.
Mind Candy has previously suggested it would like to expand the series onto other platforms. However, 3DS and DS are the most prevalent non-PC platforms amongst the nine-to-12 age group that Moshi Monsters targets.

The Wii Mini has attracted little interest at UK retail, one site has claimed.
TechRadar reports that one of retailer GAME’s “flagship” stores is not even stocking the machine, and when asked what the interest levels were like responded: "We've pretty much had nothing. None at all."
Fellow retailer HMV is not stocking the machine either, although considering its current predicament that could theoretically be due to reasons other than lack of demand.
However, in Wii Mini’s defence it should be said that it’s not the sort of machine that you’d expect to launch strongly and tail away.
The fact that it is lower-spec than the existing Wii means that avid gamers will likely avoid it – that is, if they don’t have a Wii already. Plus at £79.99 the machine is very much in impulse-buy territory. A pick-up as we enter the Easter school break at the end of the week is entirely possible.
What Nintendo will be more concerned about, however, are sales of the Wii U.
HMV’s aggressive £199.99 promotional price for the machine could give it a sorely needed shot in the arm – although anecdotal reports of low stock in stores do dampen those hopes somewhat.

His friends know [gbg] as an aficionado of just about anything with a 6502 processor in it. He’s also interested in bitcoins. A while back, a friend asked if it would be possible to mine bitcoins with an old Nintendo Entertainment System. While this suggestion was made in jest, it’s not one of those ideas anyone can let go of easily. Yes, it is possible to mine bitcoins with an NES, and [gbg] is here to show us how.
Mining bitcoins is simply just performing a SHA256 hash on a random value from the bitcoin network and relaying the result of that calculation back to the Internet. Of course this requires an Internet to NES bridge; [gbg] brought in a Raspberry Pi for this task. There’s the problem of actually getting data into an NES, though, and that’s something only a USB CopyNES can handle. After doing some 32-bit math, the NES sends this out to the Raspberry Pi and onto the bitcoin network.
When you consider that even a high-end gaming computer has little chance of mining a bitcoin in any reasonable amount of time, there’s little chance RetroMiner will ever be able to mine a bitcoin. It’s all random, though, so while it’s possible, we’ll just appreciate the awesome build for now.

Changes to the terms and conditions for publishing a game via Nintendo's eShop service have opened up the digital store to a greater range of indie developers. Nintendo is typically cagey over its policies for indie developers who hope to publish a game via the eShop stores, but in a recent interview with Gamasutra, Nintendo's business development manager Dan Adelman discussed the more relaxed nature of Nintendo's current developer requirements."You know, it's crazy that there are so many developers who don't realize this, but yes, it is not only possible for an indie to get a game onto the eShop service, we've tried to make it as frictionless as possible," said Adelman."Developers have always been able to make their content available on our systems since the WiiWare days, without the need for an intermediary publisher between the developer and Nintendo. Nor do they need to mount a big PR campaign just to be allowed onto the service. Our philosophy is that if you believe enough in your game to build it, we want to do what we can to support you."Adelman goes on to detail the most important terms more specifically. "They do need to become licensed Nintendo developers, since they will need access to our development tools. It's actually pretty easy to become a licensed developer. We really have only a few requirements to sign up as a licensed developer with Nintendo. The most notable ones are that you have to have some experience making games, you have to be able to keep any confidential materials like dev kits secure and you have to form a company. None of these should be prohibitive to any indie developer."Adelman notes that, previously, the latter requirement for 'security' meant a developer had to have an office. But the increasing prominence of developers working at home has prompted a change of policy at Nintendo."more and more people are working from home, and we recognize that developers are forming virtual teams around the world. I know we've shied away from talking about these things publicly in the past, so I'm glad that I can officially confirm that the office requirement is a thing of the past," he said.Trine developer Frozenbyte has openly praised Nintendo's eShop for being 'more indie friendly' than other consoles, with a model more on par with Apple's App Store and Valve's Steam.

CaH4e3 updated his site with the following message:
- Dance 2000 12-in-1 (Unl)[U][!]. One more old dump now emulated. As usual it took too long, and as usual it was too easy to guess. Game is similar to many-many Dance Dance Revolution clones from our chinese friends, but in addition to all other similar carts, this one allows you to use two 4k CHR tables for the background rendering on the single screen without using mid scanline pages switching or IRQs. It's operates just like Oeka Kids cart, but with just 2 pages for two nametables instead of 4 for 4 accordingly.
As usual, you can play it only on latest FCEUmm version or on the SVN version of FCEUX.

How long could you play Mario-related games for? Four hours? 10 hours? A day?88 hours? That's how long a kindly group of gamers called Gaming For Others managed last year. And they did it in the name of the SpecialEffect charity, their efforts raising £1600 - roughly the price of a PlayStation 4 shh no don't say that.
This year Gaming For Others is doing it all again and would love you to donate money. "We intend to play Mario related games for as long as people keep paying us to!" Darren Keig told me.The team selects a pre-determined list of Mario games, breaks them down into levels and then links those to donation thresholds. When those thresholds are passed, the team must meet them. The more you pay, they more they play - a bit like pumping coins in an old arcade machine.Last year Gaming For Others started playing at 10am on Good Friday and finished the following Tuesday. This year the team - comprising Darren Keig, Ant Moore, Johnny Wallbank, Kate England, Sarah Moore and Pete Taylor - want to you to push them even harder. They've raised £52.20 so far for this Friday's event so there's a long way to go. The games unlocked are Donkey Kong JNR, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3.A Twitch livestream video will follow their antics.

One rule that kept some indie developers off of WiiWare and DSiWare was that Nintendo required its developers to have a physical office space. That rule is "a thing of the past," eShop business development manager Dan Adelman toldGamasutra. It was originally in place to make sure dev kits and confidential information was kept secure.
"More and more people are working from home, and we recognize that developers are forming virtual teams around the world," Adelman said, so it became necessary to reevaluate the rule to make the Wii U and 3DS eShops more attractive to indie developers. "We really have only a few requirements to sign up as a licensed developer with Nintendo," he summarized. "The most notable ones are that you have to have some experience making games, you have to be able to keep any confidential materials like dev kits secure and you have to form a company. None of these should be prohibitive to any indie developer." Furthermore, becoming a licensed developer lets you release your games on the eShop anywhere in the Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe regions.
In other welcome news, the sales threshold – which kept developers from earning any money on their games until they'd sold 6,000 units – is also gone. Originally conceived as a measure to force developers to "self-police their own game quality" in the absence of publishers, it led to unintended consequences. "The threshold was thought to be a convenient way to go about it," Adelman explained. "Unfortunately, some great games that just didn't find an audience wound up being penalized. So for all systems after WiiWare -- DSiWare, Nintendo 3DS eShop, and Wii U eShop, we decided to get rid of the thresholds altogether. Developers receive revenue from unit 1."

Dylan Cuthbert believed that Shigeru Miyamoto’s input on the game which became StarFox was “removing what was cool” about his original concept. As part of his session at GDC 2013’s Indie Games Summit, the Q-Games founder discussed the experience of working at Nintendo with Miyamoto on StarFox.“We were very cocky British programmers, thrown into this Japanese environment,” Cuthbert explained. “We were in awe and in shock at the same time about their process, as we went in intending to make a full 3D shooting game inspired by Starglider 2. But in the process I learned from Miyamoto that ‘No idea must go into a game, even if they are good ideas.’”“This was very confusing for us, because at the time British games were full of good ideas,” he continued. ”We were at the forefront of 3D, even with isometric games back in ’83, but what we did in Britain was just stuff all these ideas in and then sell it. It’d sell, but people would find, like, half a game. Most of the games I bought in the 80s I would never finish.”“So Starglider 2 was initially what we were trying to make: a 3D roaming game. For our first months of working with Nintendo, Miyamoto would add ideas, and then remove them. And it felt like we weren’t really getting anywhere.”Cuthbert described however that after a Christmas break, Miyamoto returned to the team with a “big grin” claiming to have solved their problems. “He said, ‘we’re going to limit it. It’s going to be on rails, and it’s going to be fun and playable and a Nintendo game.’”Although Cuthbert said the team were able to “grin and bear it” due to the language barrier, “if we had been in Britain we would have been like ‘no, screw that.’”This change, however, showed Cuthbert that “you can build ideas and then, by destroying them, find other ideas hiding in the shadows.” Cuthbert and his team then concentrated on defining what was fun about the concept during a tight timescale, with on-rails flight allowing more time to fine-tune the controls and include the famous ‘barrel-roll’ manoeuvre.“In our Starglider concept, you couldn’t really see lasers coming from behind you and it could be very hard to find where the enemies were in 3D space. It was a very difficult process for the player,” explained Cuthbert. “[the change] allowed us to make much better boss battles; you were always flying forward and you could always see the boss.”Indeed, the change from first-person to third-person was seen as just as striking to Cuthbert and his team at the time.“At the time all British 3D games were first-person to be more immersive, but the change allowed us to make it fun to manoeuvre between buildings, and allowed the barrel roll to be visible and intuitive.”“With Starglider, the 3D roaming feature was such a big thing in our mind as British programmers we never considered other ways to do it,” he concluded. “It was Miyamoto and Nintendo who came up with these ideas because they didn’t have this background in 3D development.”

1996 has been named as video gaming’s ‘golden year’ by a survey of 2,000 GAME customers.
Big hits released that year included Resident Evil, Super Mario 64, Tekken 2, Crash Bandicoot, FIFA 96 (which was the first in the series to use real-life licenses) and the mighty Tomb Raider.
2002 was the runner-up with releases such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Elder Scrolls III and Halo.
Perhaps more surprising is the Wii’s nomination as the best console ever released. The all-conquering PS2 only achieved a fourth place finish.
Here are all the results:
Top Five Years for Gaming
1. 1996 (14%): Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 launched. We were singing along to Baddiel and Skinner’s Three Lions and Brit Pop was at its height
2. 2002 (13%): Halo and Elder Scrolls III on the Xbox and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. BBC 6 Music arrived on our airwaves and Arsenal won the FA Cup
3. 1991 (12%): Street Fighter II and Super Mario World on SNES and Lemmings was out on the PC. It was the start of the Iraq war and the year Bryan Adams made history when (Everything I Do) I Do It For You entered its 15th successive week at number one
4. 1985 (11%): Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt and Donkey Kong Jr on the NES and Ultima IV and Oregon Trail on the PC. It was the year Eastenders went on air and the mullet was considered the most desirable hairstyle for men and women alike
5. 1980 (10%): Pac-Man and Centipede in the arcade, Space Invaders on the Atari 2600 and Zork on the PC. It was the year John Lennon was shot dead and David Bowie was at number one with Ashes to Ashes
The Top Consoles of All Time
1. Wii (15%)
2. Xbox 360 (10%)
3. PlayStation 3 (9%)
4. PlayStation 2 (8%)
5. Sega Mega Drive (7%)
6. PlayStation 1 (6.5%)
7. Super Nintendo (6%)
8. Game Boy (5%)
9. N64 (4.5%)
10. Nintendo DS (4%)

A Wii U release for cult indie platformer Fez is not an impossibility… although comments from creator Phil Fish certainly render it an improbability.
“The only way a Fez Wii U port could happen is if Nintendo paid for and handled the port themselves,” he wrote onTwitter. “Which I highly doubt will ever happen.”
There’s context for this, though. Fish’s issue with Nintendo stems from what he perceives to be their ill treatment of indie developers I the past.
“The reason Fez isn’t on Nintendo platforms isn’t because I don't like Nintendo. It’s because of the insulting way they treated indies,” he added.
The good news, however, is that some of the gripes Fish have are now being addressed.
“Woah! Nintendo finally drops that ridiculous ‘you can’t work from home’ clause!” he said. “Prior to this, I couldn't have ported Fez to Nintendo platforms EVEN IF I WANTED TO because I work from my apartment. Brian Provinciano had to get an office JUST SO HE COULD PUBLISH ON NINTENDO PLATFORMS.
“It was that ridiculous. But hey! Progress! It’s nice to see them reach out to the little guys, although it feels quite reactionary.
“They also got rid of the sales threshold! In the past, a game had to sell X number of units before it got paid... if a game never reached the threshold, the developer never got paid. Even if you sold 4999 and the threshold was 5000, you would get nothing.
“It was FULLY ABSURD anti-developer stance that I’m glad to see they are finally getting rid of. I know people who developed a game for Nintendo, certified it, released it, sold some copies and never saw the first dollar. Ever. Nintendo would just keep all the money. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP.”
Fez is due out on PC in May.

The release of Rayman Legends on Xbox 360 and PS3 has not stopped the game being a Wii U system seller, Ubisoft has argued.
The publisher revealed last month that the SKU version – which was originally pencilled in as an exclusive Wii U launch title – had been delayed until September in order to coincide with the freshly announced Xbox and PS3 SKUs.
While this made sound business sense, elements of the more loyal Nintendo faithful online decried the publisher’s “betrayal”, arguing that the decision dealt a blow to the already struggling console.
But Ubisoft France Studios boss Xavier Poix says that the platformer very much remains a Wii U system seller.
"We don't have any disappointments compared to the installed base. We are just hoping that Nintendo's results for Wii U will be a bit bigger,” he told GamesIndustry.
"Selling a new way of playing can take some time, and we know the power of the brands from Nintendo and we know from the fans that the majority of what will be the system sellers are not yet available. And on our side, Rayman will be one of them for sure.
“We really expect Rayman to be a huge system seller on the console."
Poix also thinks that the console could yet reverse its fortunes if the industry can successfully convey the value offered by the Wii U GamePad.
"One thing for sure we knew is that this new controller would be something harder to convey than the Wii, which was about the movements in your game, so we knew we needed to educate people around this GamePad idea,” he added.
“We strongly believe that people have not yet realized the importance of the gameplay that this can provide, but for sure they need the good games to support the system. And they need the installed base to gain more support, which is not the case yet.”

Hyperkin’s RetroN 4 console reveal earlier this month turned out to be only part of the story.
The company today unveiled the RetronN 5, which adds an additional cartridge slot for Japanese Famicom games. That’s in addition to the previously confirmed slots for NES, SNES, GBA, and Sega Genesis cartridges.
Hyperkin hasn’t yet decided on exact price or release date for the console, but is hoping to launch around July for under $100.
Along with the retro slots, the RetroN 5 also includes a Bluetooth controller, and will output video via HDMI.

Let's say you bought a pair of cartridge-based games to go with your Nintendo 3DS, but you're embracing our all-digital future and want to replace them with downloadable copies. You won't have to toss all your game progress at the same time: a newly available 3DS firmware update includes a tool to move save files from a retail copy to its downloadable version. The transfer is strictly one-way, though, so there's no falling back for gaming Luddites. Nintendo offers a bonus if you're fully in step with the online world, though -- background downloads can now start just by closing the lid while the eShop is running. Both elements of the update are simple on the surface, but they could go a long way in helping us ditch a legacy of plastic game libraries.

Nintendo's Wii U has faced complaints over slow loading and switching between menus since launch, but the company has promised a pair of updates will help the situation. Tonight it posted a video on YouTube (embedded after the break) that shows off the difference before and after the April update side by side. Showing off how quickly it can return to the home menu from a game of New Super Mario Bros. U, the updated console is ready to go in eight seconds, compared to the current software's 20-second delay. There's no mention of the other update to improve the speed of launching software, but hopefully that will be shown off soon as well. More than halving the main menu's load time is nothing to sneeze at, although it's still not exactly a snappy experience. We'll see if these tweaks -- once they arrive -- do anything to improve the console's position while it waits for the improved software lineup President Satoru Iwata is expecting.

DICE isn't currently looking at bringing Battlefield 4 to Wii U and hasn't confirmed plans to launch the game on next-gen consoles. Studio general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told GamesRadar: "We are not actively looking at the Wii U right now."He said that the next entry in the military shooter series "will release on the platforms that we feel are suitable for the gaming experience that we have".This presumably includes PS4 and the next Xbox, but DICE isn't willing to discuss next-gen plans yet. Asked if the game will be available on upcoming Sony and Microsoft consoles, Troedsson told the Guardian."We're in very interesting times right now. We're on the verge of something brand new. We've been part of these transitions before and we know that great things come out of them. But we're DICE - we've been around for 20 years and we're not that quick to jump on hype trains - we move at a steady pace, we tread carefully."

According to the firm's US arm, the update introduces the following features:Nintendo eShop improvements - Users will no longer need to close the Nintendo eShop application to ensure the "Download Later" feature works while the Nintendo 3DS is in Sleep Mode.
- Other improvements to usability have been made, including the ability to download software update data in the background.
Improvements to system stability and usability- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Nintendo said this week that changes to the terms and conditions for publishing a game on its eShop service have opened up the digital marketplace to a greater range of indie developers.Business development manager Dan Adelman said: "You know, it's crazy that there are so many developers who don't realize this, but yes, it is not only possible for an indie to get a game onto the eShop service, we've tried to make it as frictionless as possible."

We've only just gotten Etrian Odyssey 4, and those in Japan who dare to die in dungeons are already waiting for a new one. The latest issue of Famitsu magazine reveals New Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl, a 3DS reimagining of the original Etrian Odyssey.
According to early reports, this game swaps out the light-on-story, character-creation-driven approach of previous Etrians in favor of a story, with defined characters you meet along the way. The Famitsu report says New Etrian Odyssey will be out in Japan on June 27.

The game may be pushing 30, but we get the sneaking feeling that the world has only scratched the surface of the original Super Mario Bros' gameplay potential. Chris Novello certainly offers a fairly compelling case for this, in the form of the Super Mario Spacetime organ, a strange and wonderful concoction that utilizes a homebrewed Illucia patchbay and the lovely Madrona Soundplane music controller, which let him play the Mushroom Kingdom like a musical instrument. Watch the video below as he manipulates the RAM to make Mario fly and jumps through the "Super Mario time machine" on the Soundplane's x-axis. It's not the most musical thing in the world, and certainly not for those who are sensitive to flickering chaos, but it does put those old Game Genies to shame. It also serves as a pretty novel use for a couple of rubber band balls.

Ubisoft has released a ZombiU patch addressing a number of issues in the Wii U exclusive game. Chief among them is a game-breaking glitch which resulted in players being unable to progress through a nursery section because a door couldn't be opened if they'd followed specific steps.Ubisoft offered the following patch notes toCoffee with Games: - On Mission 12, in the Nursery MAP, the interaction with the door in the basement of nursery was missing at rebirth if specific steps were followed.
- On Mission 13, in the Gas Station MAP, a Mission object that is mandatory to complete the objective was missing if specific steps were followed.
- On Mission 14, in the Circus MAP, if the player died right after recovering his Backpack, and rebooted the Wii U console, the objective was not updated.
- On Mission 15, in the Bunker MAP, the Panacea disappeared after the Player died while downloading it. However the objective remained the same (download Panacea).
- On Mission 10, in the Tower MAP, the Objective "Secure landing site" was not validated if specific steps were followed.
- On Mission 15, in the Bunker MAP, if specific steps were followed, the Player might get stuck in the Bunker after he took Doctor's eye / Panacea because a Ladder disappeared.
- On Mission 16, in the MAP Safe House, the iron curtain in the Safe House lacked of collision during Mission 16. This Bug could lead to a scoring exploit on leaderboards.
- In the Safe House MAP, the Player saw a placeholder text when he dragged & dropped an item from the Blue Box to his holsters following certain steps.
- On Mission 12 or 15, in the Nursery MAP, the game crashed if the Player burned the Zombi Nurse while she died.
- Zombies animations transitions.
- Online messages spawned in the first section of the MAPs.
- Scanner's start volume.

There will be no touchscreen leg-cutting minigames at launch for Battlefield 4. DICE Creative director Lars Gustavsson told Videogamer a flat "no" in response to a query about the existence of a Wii U version of the military shooter.
"I think overall for me as creative director, number one is to deliver a really great game and experience," Gustavsson explained. "Sometimes, at least for us, it's focus on what you do well and what you know well, and ensure that you deliver something good than trying a bit too much, stretching yourself too thin and risking it. I'd rather play it safe, deliver something really good and then look at the future and what could possibly be done than trying a bit too hard and then, flat."
Just a few minutes earlier, on stage at the presentation, EA Games vice president Patrick Söderlund touted the game as "a new era of interactive entertainment," built on an engine that provided "no excuses. There's nothing really holding us back anymore."

GBA.js Git (2013/03/27) is released.
* Do not redraw portion of WIN1 that was obscured by a disabled WIN0
* Wrap x in BG mode 0
* Start of tile viewer
* Use BadMemory for isolated write-only registers

Nestopia Git (2013/03/27) is compiled. Nestopia has been abandoned for years. It's a great emulator, and losing it would be a shame. The purpose of this project is to keep Nestopia alive as long as possible and make sure it continues to work on modern Linux distributions. In the future, Windows builds may be maintained as well. Snes9x Git (2013/03/27) is compiled. Snes9x is a portable, freeware Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It basically allows you to play most games designed for the SNES and Super Famicom Nintendo game systems on your PC or Workstation; which includes some real gems that were only ever released in Japan. Snes9x is the result of well over three years worth of part-time hacking, coding, recoding, debugging, divorce, etc. (just kidding about the divorce bit). Snes9x is coded in C++, with three assembler CPU emulation cores on the i386 Linux and Windows ports.
Snes9x Git changelog:
* win32: add float_framebuffer to cg shaders
* win32: add frame_count_mod to cg shaders
* win32: fix xaudio2 mixing loop
* win32: add slot0

New development environment to support app creation using HTML5, JavaScript and CSS
Nintendo has revealed a new Nintendo Web Framework to support the development of HTML5, JavaScript and CSS apps on the Wii U.
The framework, based on WebKit technologies, also supports the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote controllers and JavaScript extensions such as video playback.
Speaking at GDC 2013, Nintendo claimed that that the toolset for apps would reduce development times and allow for the easy creation of apps through using common web technologies.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata stated in January that the console giant was focused on expanding its range of software developers through web tech and coding platforms such as HTML5, JavaScript and Unity, given the rise of indie developers and diversion of web tech.
When discussing Wii Street U, a version of Google Streeview made specifically for the console, Iwata said: "By the way, this service has been developed by a small team mostly using web technologies based on HTML5, not the so-called native codes only for Wii U applications.

GameStop saw revenue drop 7% last year, projects flat revenue for 2013 in best case
[h=3]GameStop[/h]gamestop.com
GameStop reported its earnings for the holiday quarter, and the results were mixed - which investors interpreted as good in a year when retail game sales were down by double digits overall. On the earnings call, CEO J. Paul Raines tried to put the news in the best light possible, of course. Raines had to admit, though, that last year was tough, citing a 21 drop in software sales and a 25 percent decline for hardware from NPD numbers. Of course, Raines was careful to point out that GameStop outperformed against that backdrop. Investors apparently liked what they heard, because GameStop shares were up over 7 percent after the earnings call.
Raines noted that GameStop has over 30 percent software market share in most of the markets, and the company grew its margins by 400 basis points. Outside of the classic physical business, Kongregate grew 48 percent during 2012, and GameStop's mobile division reported $184 million in sales. "We are going to be a strong player in launches of new tablets and devices," Raines claimed.
"We expect the first half of the year to be very difficult as we wait for new consoles"
Rob Lloyd
CFO Rob Lloyd added some detail to the numbers, noting comparable sales for the last quarter were down 4.6 percent when you took into account that the quarter had an extra week. The Wii U launch helped keep the quarter from looking even worse. Overall, the picture for the year wasn't great: A 7 percent sales decline for the year, and business in comparable stores was down 8.7 percent in US. GameStop was able to increase its earnings per share by 10.5 percent despite the grim retail sales picture. The essential question for GameStop's future is this: Will new consoles offset the decline in current generation console sales?
The guidance given for 2013 wasn't rosy. "We expect the first half of the year to be very difficult as we wait for new consoles," Lloyd said. "We expect to return for growth in the back half of the year." Putting numbers on that, Lloyd said that the full year would be down 8 percent to flat, with full year net income declining from 7 to 18 percent. According to Lloyd, the guidance at the high end reflects the possibility of a second new console launch in the fourth quarter other than Sony's PS4. Paging Microsoft; situation desperate, send new console.

European Wii U owners will not be able to purchase Darksiders 2 via the eShop digital store after March 31.The news comes via a notice on the eShop News page, which warns gamers of the software removal."The software will continue to be available for re-download if you have already purchased it," reads the notice pictured right (via Nintendo Life)."We apologize for the inconvenience," concludes the notice. No reasoning for the withdrawal is offered, nor is it indicated whether or not the title will ever return for sale via the eShop. This appears only to apply to the EU eShop since, at the time of writing, there is no such notice on the US eShop News page.Current Crytek USA CEO and former Vigil general manager David Adams has revealed his intention to bid for the Darksiders IP. Adams oversaw the Darksiders franchise at former THQ studio Vigil, which was shut down on January 25 when the bankrupt publisher failed to receive any bids for the studio as it auctioned off its assets.

Welcome to a special all-3DS edition of the weekly Nintendo download releases. Or, if you only have a Wii U, Wii, or DS, welcome to a post you can just skip.
Game Freak's HarmoKnight debuts on the 3DS eShop. Game Freak rarely diverges from its main business, Pokémon, so this is a rare chance to see the developer's production values and expertise applied to something other than an RPG about collecting all the world's flora and fauna into sealed containers.
Other releases include Game Boy Color fishing RPG Legend of the River King, and former retail exclusives Resident Evil Revelations and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Transformed.

Nintendo’s Miiverse web and smartphone app for Wii U is inching closer to arrival.
Polygon reports that Nintendo's Kiyoshi Mizuki stated the app would be available in either April or May. It will only have basic functionality at first, including posting comments, drawing doodles, and joining game communities.
A 3DS version of the Miiverse app is also in the works, but Nintendo didn’t provide a release window; though Mizuki did mention that not every game or app on the 3DS will carry Miiverse support.
We first heard of the smartphone integration for the social network back in January as part of Nintendo’s reveal of upcoming Wii U system updates.

'We have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U,' says Mark Rein
Unreal Engine 4 and Frostbite 3 will not be supporting the Wii U.
As reported by Kotaku, despite having previously announced support of Unreal Engine 4 for PC and PS4, and today revealing it will also be scalable to mobile and HTML5, Wii U developers will have to continue working with Unreal Engine 3.
In a Q&A session at GDC, Rein explained that Unreal Engine 3 development would not just disappear because it had released UE4, and that its latest engine was designed for next-gen development as far as consoles were concerned.
"We're not… we have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U. Right?” said Rein.
“And Unreal Engine 3 is powering all kinds of amazing games, still lots of games are being made with Unreal Engine 3. We announced today about a new Unreal Engine 3 license. Unreal Engine 3 doesn't disappear because of Unreal Engine 4.
