Remember when you were 5, and you went to McDonald's one day with your parents and they got you the Happy Meal with the windup Luigi toy in it? Remember how ecstatic you were that you had a real version of Mario's bro in a plastic bag along with your cheeseburger and fries, and remember how you went home and played with it all day until it stopped winding and you completely forgot about it until you had to clean out your desk drawer for college?
Well, 11-year-old Oscar Bown has that times a thousand. The kid's collected over 1,000 bits and pieces of Mario-related paraphernalia, and you can see most of them in a video after the break. He's got everything, from Mario Monopoly to Mario band-aids to pretty much every single vehicle toy from Mario Kart. Just saying: Whenever he eventually leaves for college, that desk drawer is going to be pretty full.

News via http://www.codemii.com/2010/08/31/hb...ted-to-v0-3-9/
31 August 2010 (v0.3.9)
» Fixed bug with HBB calculating the wrong free space
» Fixed bug with USB running HBB when HBB wasn’t installed on SD card
» Added support for HBC Themes (go to Settings -> Repo then select HBC Themes and restart HBB)
» Enabled a setting to use Wiimote like GC controller
» Enabled a setting to disable the character in the menu (if he freaks you out!)
» Updated the HBB updated applications window to allow more space
» Raised timeout for homebrew list
» Compiled with devkitPPC 21, libogc SVN and libfat SVN
The Homebrew Browser has been upgraded to v0.3.9. This version was released earlier to deal with IOS58 USB issues, some users have tested this version out and report their USB device mounts fine now and also for HBC Themes support. To access HBC Themes, you’ll need to go to the settings in HBB in page 3 select Use Other Repositories, choose HBC Themes and reboot HBB.
Apart from that just your standard bug fixes, finally fixed that free space calculation for >4GB devices or so I hope. Two more settings have been added, one allows you to use the Wiimote as a GameCube Controller (i.e. sideways & no IR) and the other to disable that guy who’s watching you in the HBB Menu as per a user request.

News via http://www.neoflash.com/go/index.php...d=374&Itemid=1
We are up to v1.9 - so what's new this time around? New default images (trying to avoid any copyright issues), and box art! Box art is only for people using an SD card. While browsing the SD card, the box art for games will be shown when viewing the game options. If you don't have any box art, or are browsing the game flash, you get a generic box art display. One internal change is the way save memory is initialized when it's first created. Before, it was always written to all 1's. Now EEPROM and SRAM are written to all 0's while FRAM is still written to all 1's. This might affect the way some games handle the save memory. You should probably delete your old saves unless you started originally with a save from an emulator. Also, the Fat Filesystem (libff) has been updated to the latest version. It's supposed to have faster seeking, but that probably won't be noticeable in the menu.

Do you remember the Nintendo Family Computer, or Famicon? Well, you might not -- it came to earth in 1983 and was Japan's version of the NES. Now, continuing its week of vintage teardowns, iFixit's gotten its hands on one of these colorful gems and done what it does. The Famicon is pretty easily dismantled, and simple inside, as well. As you can see, there's almost nothing going on in there! There's one more photo below, but hit up the source link for the full set.

Newly released today
features•Metroid: Other M takes the best elements of 1st-person and 3rd-person gaming to create a seamless blend between gameplay, story-telling and dynamic cinematography, that feels like a movie the player can control.Players hold the Wii Remote controller sideways while navigating and battling in 3rd-person. However, at any moment, players can switch immediately to Wii Remote pointer controls to examine and explore the environments in 1st-person perspective
•Metroid fans know more about Samus’ suits and weapons than they do about what drives her. That’s about to change. The story begins immediately following the events of Super Metroid, when a baby Metroid gave its life to protect Samus. With voice acting and a rich story, players learn the engaging backstory of Samus as she weaves through an action-packed adventure aboard the Bottle Ship, a decommissioned space facility. As she hurtles into this new adventure, Samus will encounter her first mentor and Commanding Officer of the Galactic Federation, Adam Malkovich
•The development of Metroid: Other M is an exciting collaboration between Nintendo’s Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja. Sakamoto was the director of Super Metroid in 1994. Team Ninja is the renowned action developer of Ninja Gaiden. Metroid: Other M pairs Sakamoto’s expert level design and exploratory focus of the classic Metroid series with Team Ninja’s signature stylish, no-holds-barred action
descriptionFor decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games, and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus™ finally tells her own tale in this revealing, personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation. Metroid: Other M is an unprecedented collaboration that blends the slick, action-packed production of the world-renowned Team Ninja development team with the game design talents of the creators of the original Metroid. Metroid: Other M is a dramatic new direction for a legendary franchise and a bold new blend between cinematics, storytelling and the best in interactive entertainment.

News via http://emu-russia.net/en/
WIP version of Super Nintendo emulator has been updated recently. Changes:
- This release is only to demonstrate a new S-PPU renderer I have been working on. The goal is to use it only for the performance core. It is feature complete, with a few caveats. The most noticeable is that save state support is not implemented yet, but it also handles mosaic support in a less precise manner to speed things up. Under the hood, it is still a scanline renderer, but each scanline pass renders whole tiles at a time rather than iterating over every pixel. It is also designed more like the accurate PPU in terms of code layout, with each component of the PPU isolated to its own class. As a result, the performance build as a whole runs 13.5% faster now; which means the new S-PPU is roughly 27% faster than the old one.

We still have memories -- some would say nightmares, but we digress -- of hanging out at a neighbor's house and taking turns playing matches of Mario's Tennis, our biological ocular displays assimilated into a rubber mask that engulfed our brains and left us in a permanent state of viewing the world in red wireframe. Crude 3D though it may be, it's still a part of history we must accept, and if you happen to own a Virtual Boy, we have just two things to say to you. One: we're insanely jealous. Two: if you ever need to know how to rip it to shreds for repair / stress relief, iFixit's got you covered. In the world of Man with Screwdriver vs. Game Console, yet again Man wins. Seems a perfect ending to a week that featured Atari 2600, Nintendo Famicon, RCA Studio II, and Magnavox Odyssey 100.

Pate has posted some more WIP news of his Dos Emulator for the Nintendo DS:
During the past week I have continued porting the DSx86 ARM ASM CPU emulation code to DS2x86 MIPS ASM. This work has progressed well, and I am actually a little bit ahead of schedule. I have now worked on it for 3 weeks, and I have about 80% of the 80186 opcodes coded. I have skipped and left for later some of the more difficult opcodes, like opcodes 0xCC..0xCE (INT3, INT imm8, INTO). The reason for skipping these has been the fact that they interface with the hardware features, and I can not test them properly with the current plain opcode tester program. These I need to revisit later, but I plan to first code all the normal opcodes and then switch over to the proper DS2x86 implementation and start adding the hardware features. If all goes well I might get all the normal 80186 opcodes done by the next weekend.

News/release from chintoi
Hello guys, not sure if my app is going to be helpful to any of you, but I came to say thanks for the wonderful lib you have here. No matter if it's a bit abandoned, it's still helpful!
Ok, as for my reader, it's opensource, it supports vertical and horizontal layouts, unicode text (UTF-8). Also, you don't have to bother converting books as it supports the most basic format - txt. Actually, it's so basic it treats every newline symbol as a paragraph end, mind that there're eBooks out there that have newlines that don't mean anything. Sorry, I was too lazy to take a screenshot with a book in English)

News/release from Jeydes
Hello guys,
don't know if anyone needs this two apps/games, but I thought I could upload them.
So, here they are:
Alarma:
A simple alarm clock with adjustable timer. 10 minutes before the alarm clock rings, the upper display turns green. 5 minutes before the alarm clock rings the upper display turns yellow and when the alarm clock rings the display turns red. To reset everything just press the A-Button on your pad.
Clap Challenge:
If you clap, the bar goes higher. If you clapped 4 times with the right volume and you clap again the bar goes downwards. And so it goes on...you only have to clap with the right volume.
I know, very useless and pointless games/apps.

Hi!
The LoneWolfDS project has reached a significant milestone, this time with the 5th book of the Lone Wolf series: Shadow On The Sand. For those who had missed previous volumes, this is an attempt at porting good old paper gamebooks to the DS console. Why is this one special? Because this is the last volume of the Kai series, closing the first cycle of Lone Wolf's adventures. It's also the biggest of all the Kai books (400 sections spread in two main chapters, phew!).
A nice review of the book can be read here: http://web.ncf.ca/as300/b5.html
So what's new in this 5th book?
- A nice new adventure including 400 sections and several original plot twists!
- I made a new music to celebrate this milestone, called "The Last Chapter", bringing the OST to 10 tracks.
As with all other versions, you can continue your game from the last book. For this, you need to have the "The Chasm Of Doom.xml" file at the root of your SD card, and this saved game must contain at least one slot saved at the end of book 4.
You can get the game here : http://www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic/index.php
(please don't host the ROM on your site but use this link instead, as required by the Project Aon licensed! Thanks!)
If you encounter a problem or a bug, please tell me your DS and linker model and I'll try to investigate. Thank you for your feedback!
So now, what will I do for the rest of the series? I'm not sure yet. I'll first have to check what gameplay changes the new books may involve. I'm also starting to consider an iPhone port of my homebrew: I'm currently in a professional transition, and I'd like to earn a bit of money to feed my family. So porting it to online selling platforms might generate a bit of income. By the way, if you want to thank me for the work I've done during the last years, and encourage me to release further books, you can still make a donation on the download page. In those changing times for me, it will be more helpful than ever, and will be greatly appreciated!
Anyway, spread the word and have fun!
Frédéric Calendini

For demanding gamers, initial excitement upon procuring a Nintendo Wii was quickly dampened by disappointment: the durned Wiimote wasn't nearly as precise as we'd all hoped it would be. It took a couple of years for Nintendo to step up and fix the issue, releasing the MotionPlus and finally making the Wiimote work for sword-fighting games and the like. But, that left us all stuck with a dongle hanging off the bottom, causing compatibility issues with many early peripherals. The Nyko Wand+ is the solution, putting the MotionPlus right inside a stock-size controller, as it should have been in the first place. In some ways, it's better than first-party.

Newly released from ThatotherDev
Here is the update I promised.
I added a scoring system. Every ball you click gets you 5 points and if you set a new high score its automatically saved. There is also a health bar that drops down whenever a ball gets out of reach. If you miss five balls then the game resets. I made the aiming a bit more forgiving. Now if you click near enough to a ball it will count as if you hit it even if the exact pixel that your pointing at isn’t actually within the ball. I added background music (Inside The Shell by KatazTrophee). I improved performance. The game was already frame rate independent so the speed of the gameplay is unaffected but it plays smoother now. I also added four player co op along with classic controller support for all 4 wiimotes.

News via http://gbatemp.net/t253135-supercard...lator-released
We're happy to let you know that the Supercard Team has just issued an official release of their Super Nintendo (aka. SNES) emulator for the Supercard DSTWO! This emulator which takes full advantage of the SCDSTWO's onboard CPU to run games at full speed had been reviewed a few weeks ago by our top reviewgirl lilsypha. It is still unconfirmed whether or not the SC team have improved their emulator since the last beta release.
QUOTE(Supercard Team)
This Time we met a lot of troubles, and now the SNES Emulator is not perfect at this moment. We will try our best to improve it.
The emulator does not support the games require very special chips now.
PS. we set the default cpu level at level 2 to save power, if you feel the sound is not synchronized, please try to set it to level 4.
Introduction
NDSSFC is a SNES emulator only for DSTWO with Real-Time-Save(RTS), Cheats, Screen Snapshot and etc functions.
Install:
Download and unzip, then copy the /NDSSFC/ and /_dstwoplug/ folder to the root of your microsd card.
We suggest you to put SNES Roms under / NDSSFC/gamepak, it's easy to search games.
Note:
- Save: You should click "Exit" when you want to quit, or you can't save with the original normal save function in-game.
- Call out menu in-game: Touch the touch screen.

News from http://emulatemii.com/wordpress/?p=374
We’re just writing to let the fans know that we’re still alive and kicking, but unfortunately, finding very little free time on our hands these days for emulation development. We’ve still got big plans for all of our GC/Wii related projects, and development has been still progressing. We’re also planning on releasing builds with IOS58 support, but we’ve been waiting for the libogc USB2 wrinkles to be ironed out.
Be sure to stick around; we appreciate all your support and feedback in both the fast and slow development times.

Newly released today
features•Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions gives gamers four unique universes to explore, each featuring authentic and unique art styles, from the classic pen-and-ink-styled Amazing Spider-Man to the moody, 1930s cinema-influenced Noir
•Players harness new gameplay mechanics through each costume of Spider-Man: The web-slinging, aerial Amazing Spider-Man delivers sweeping blows and powerful kicks in a world that pays tribute to the classic era of our legendary Super Hero, while the mysterious and stealthy Spider-Man Noir prefers to lurk in the shadows of a 1930s-influenced cinematic environment before unleashing his perilous strength
•For the first time, Spider-Man can deliver damage up close and personal via a first-person perspective during key moments of battle. Boss-themed levels with new environments, music and pacing, along with a vast new cast of ferocious villains, will engage gamers in a fast-paced action-adventure. Players will take on the world’s greatest hunter Kraven in the Amazing universe and, in the service of Norman Osborn (aka “The Goblin), Hammerhead and his henchmen in the gritty Noir universe
•Beyond the four vastly different worlds to explore, players will uncover surprises around every corner, including new abilities and multiple costumes and bonuses to unlock
•Join Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir and one other Spider-Man as they traverse their side-scrolling worlds, gaining powers as they progress that allow them to explore previously unreachable areas. In addition to different style of gameplay, the DS version of Shattered Dimensions also boasts a unique cast of seven Spider-Man villains, including Electro of the Amazing universe and the first ever appearance of Calypso Noir, who, along with two other boss characters, was created from scratch exclusively for this Nintendo DS game
descriptionSpider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is a thrilling action-packed adventure set in four dramatically different universes from legendary Spider-Man lore, each with a distinct Spider-Man armed with unique skills and strengths, in one original storyline. Players will be transported to new locations never before seen in a Spider-Man game, from lush jungles and dusty deserts to various urban terrains. Acclaimed comic book writer Dan Slott takes players on a mission to contain the magical energy of the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which has been shattered and sent hurtling across parallel universes, and battle fan-favorite villains in a quest to restore the fabric of reality.

Remember when Nintendo said it'd release its release date for the 3DS autostereoscopic portable game system on the 29th of this month? We may already have the magic number -- depending on how you interpret a few Japanese words. You see, a supposed video game accessory designer by the handle "nocchisan" recently tweeted that eleven Nintendo 3DS accessories will be released on November 11th, and asked his or her followers to kindly buy them up... while purportedly remarking that the 3DS itself will arrive at the same time. While the tweets in question can certainly be read that way, and it makes a certain amount of sense for accessories to appear at launch, our admittedly limited grasp of Japanese suggests an alternative translation: that it's the accessories themselves (and not the 3DS) that will all arrive at the same time. There's also the little matter of nocchisan himself, whose Twitter account has already disappeared -- we have nothing actually connecting him to the accessory company except a link in his tweet.

September 12th, 2010, 23:45 Posted By: wraggster
In August, we learnt through an investor Q&A that Capcom’s Nintendo 3DS games will run on the same MT Framework technology used to develop the company’s major high-definition games.
MT, in this case, stands for “multi-thread,” “multi-target” and “meta-tools.” The Framework was originally developed to facilitate production of Dead Rising and Lost Planet after Capcom decided existing middleware wouldn’t be able to achieve the level of performance they required. Through continued iteration and customization for each game, the engine eventually reached the stage it has today, where it is being used across the majority of Capcom’s console games.
A tech report on Impress Watch details that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 runs on the latest build of the engine, MT Framework 2.1, and that the PC version of Lost Planet 2, which runs on MT Framework 2.0, will include support for DirectX 11 when it releases in October. Additionally, it reveals that Sengoku Basara 3 on the Wii runs on an “MT Framework Lite.”
The report then goes on to detail the MT Framework build running on 3DS, ironically not “Lite,” pointing out features such as HDR lighting, realtime colour correction, self-shadowing, normal mapping, depth of field and motion blur.
Capcom hope to come close to matching the graphical fidelity of Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox 360 with Revelations. Interestingly, the 3DS port of Super Street Fighter IV uses the MT Framework as well, unlike the console versions, which run on a different engine.

TetWiis v1.1 released by Pembo
TetWiis is a Nintendo Wii Tetris clone, shamelessly based on the Nintendo DS version of Tetris. The more lines you get, the higher the score rewarded, but the faster the game gets! More score can be gained by going for double triple or quad clearances, and you are rewarded highly if you successfully attempt the back to back quad clearance! This is the classic 'marathon' mode of Tetris - play till you drop or run out of luck!
For every 10 lines you clear the level increases, along with the scores rewarded and the speed of the drop!
v1.1
Released 12th September 2010
Implemented clockwise/anticlockwise rotation of the blocks. Button (1) on the wiimote and (b) on the classic controller now rotate anticlockwise.
Adjusted the key repeat timings for improved control
Fixed the DOWN press release timer to give you a small amount of time before the key repeat kicks in again.
Implemented a pause menu (Pressing Home Button in game) where you can return to the game menu, or exit to the loader
Added a graphical reminder on the high score entry screen that the wiimote should be vertical
Resolved a few minor bugs.

News via http://www.dacotaco.com/about-the-pr...er-0-5-removal
It's been a while since I removed the Priiloader 0.5 from my web server and the google code and I did not write about why I did (shame on me) .
I deleted the installer because of a bug. At the time of de - installation, there were a number of bricks ( and fortunately , in 99 % of cases , users had to BootMii boot2 > _ > ) because of this bug .
Why is this bug ?
easy
There was no Internet connection set. True , this is the reason the bug.
At first I was surprised how something like this can completely crash the installer ? ! Initially , I thought having a memory corruption . After a thorough cleaning of memory blocks of the installer , and other memory alignment , I could remove this idea from the list .
Maybe it was a bug in my code ? Only one way to find out . I started a basic "hello world " that initializes only the video and pad GC (so you can leave ) . And bam , crash . This led me to believe a problem with the HBC or libogc (made at this point, I was convinced that the HBC was concerned , because of AHBPROT now used to launch the application ) .
So we ( myself & lukegb ) continued testing and tested various simple operations dhewg help identify the problem. Time passed, and I was getting no response from him, so I tried the 2nd option : to inform the team of libogc this issue, hoping they would help me more.
And they did .
shagkur deleted this setting Internet and launched the demo application . No crash , he turned right. Oddly still, the basic " hello world " continued to grow , he then begin to look at the sources.
After a while he found the cause of the crash , caused by a response not expected CPI , which is connected with a callback registered (recorded from the CHB) . Where is the callback ? at 0x813a2028
This address can not say one thing: a response to a request ipc something pinnacle by the HBC , but never closed . Tantric & shagkur both believe that the source is the initialization of the asynchronous network from the HBC. They believe that this asynchronous request is never canceled / closed , and therefore the response ipc happens when the application is launched , causing this beautiful crash.
So yes , the crash is on the HBC and so it will not be corrected, I should not leave the other version of Priiloader This is not negotiable.
If we want to give the TT AHBPROT , they should check that everything is de- initialized properly ( without AHBPROT , HBC reload the IOS , losing the rights and re -initializing all from ipc ... So , no answer ipc unwanted in the application ) or that nothing bad could happen . That's what I spend most of my time working on the priiloader ( I have a lot of potential holes in my sources ; _ ; )
Geto Over and out

According to a recent Capcom investor Q&A, it looks like the company's upcoming Nintendo 3DS games will be developed using the MT Framework -- the same game engine used for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii titles. This means that graphics features like "HDR lighting, real-time color correction, self-shadowing, normal mapping, depth of field and motion blur" will be making their way to your handheld -- whenever it should become available. Hit the source link to see several examples featuring the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations (or, as it's known in Japan, Biohazard: Revelations) and prepare to enter a virtual wonderworld of machine translated tech details regarding game development. You're welcome.

Keys Factory are a peripheral development company that provide third-party accessories and peripherals ranging across different DS hardware platforms. They’ve developed screen guards for the Nintendo DS, customized stylii, and even provide outsourcing for graphics production.
Now, they’re the company that just might have let slip the release date of the Nintendo 3DS, but not really.
The message basically reads: “The accessories we designed for the 3ds that will be released on 11/20 will be sold simultaneously along with 11 different products. Those getting the 3DS, get this at the same time! In time, the homepage will be posting this information too. Ah, but it doesn’t matter anymore to me, does it? w Best regards”
Here’s the fun bit though. Shortly after the post was made, it, along with nocchisan’s entire Twitter feed, was taken down.
So is the 3DS really dated for two months from now in Japan? It’s quite likely, considering Nintendo have a conference planned for September 29th, where they’re scheduled to reveal further details on the device. Expect to learn a lot more then.
Alas, I doubt we’ll ever learn what happened to poor nocchisan. Or perhaps he did it on purpose? He does say, “Ah, but it doesn’t matter anymore to me, does it?” One could interpret that in any number of ways.

Pate has posted some more WIP news concerning his Dos Emulator for DS
Just 5 minutes ago I got all the basic 80186 opcodes (including the REP-prefixed string opcodes) converted and tested! Hurrah! :-) Well, actually it is not much cause for celebration yet, as only now I can start coding the actual emulation framework around the CPU emulation. Many parts of the DSx86 framework are coded in C++, though, so porting those will be much faster than writing ASM code, which needs to be written pretty much from scratch for a new processor architecture.
Next, I think I will work on the interrupt architecture (as I need that to be able to input any keys and Norton Sysinfo needs a timer interrupt to be able to calculate the CPU speed). I am looking forward to getting Norton Sysinfo running, but before I can attempt that I need to add quite a bit of hardware-related stuff, including disk access support and the whole screen output stuff. Also, I need to start studying the DS2 SDK stuff more closely, so far I have only used the console output and not much else. I still have a lot to learn about it as well. But, it is interesting to learn new things!
Oh, and I also finally added a PayPal "Donate" button onto the Main Page, so you can donate a small amount to show your support of my working on DSx86. As I state on the main page, don't feel bad about not donating anything, I am not doing DSx86 for money. But at least you can now stop emailing me about wanting to donate money but not being able to. :-)

Hello all,
I already posted this over on the devkitpro forums, but figured it might just as well be welcome here.
Anyway, I have ported our original PC-based musicdisk to the NDS. The musicdisk features 26 songs in a mixture of streaming (.ogg) and various module (.mod/.xm) formats, with nifty visualizers running at a full 60fps. Sound quality is extremely good when using headphones or earphones (the internal speakers are OK, but not great).
I didn't use maxmod as I have my own replay code, and I had to make some custom additions to the ARM7 side, but we finally got it done. Next year we'll try to do a simultaneous PC/NDS release.
Thanks goes to WinterMute and the libnds team for providing the low-level libraries and a libtremor port that worked flawlessly the first time! \o/

Nintendo has confirmed the European release of three new colours of DSi XL, which arrived in Japan a few months back.
The new SKUs, coupled with a price drop, caused a brief tripling of Japanese DSi XL sales, though Sony's PSP has since re-assumed chart dominance.
The yellow, green and blue handhelds will be on sale from October 8, in time for the Christmas rush.
The devices will sport no changes beyond the cosmetic, and there's no word of the price cut the US and Japan have enjoyed.
Nintendo has also revealed that DSi XL sales total 3.6 million units worldwide, as of this June.

Having experienced quite a bit of trouble getting the Nintendo Wii remotes to work reliably with his home theater projector, [Sprite_TM] designed his own sensor bar replacement. If you’re not familiar, the Wii remotes have an infrared camera in the tip that sense two IR LEDs in the sensor bar that resides above or below your television. The problem is that if you’re too far away, the points of light are not where the remote expects them to be and the cursor will not perform as expected. Since this is a huge projected display it’s no surprise that the player is further away from the screen than the system was designed for.
[Sprite_TM's] solution was to build a projection system for the two IR points. The unit in the picture above is a driver circuit with two IR emitters mounted on a heat sink, each with its own reflector. The reflected beams are shined through a Fresnel lens and projected on the same wall as the TV image. The viewer will not be able to see this light as it’s in a longer wavelength than the visible spectrum. But the Wii remote performs beautifully now and the replacement sensor bar is happily mounted out of sight above the projector.

News via http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.ph...779c40f1a47f42
Woopsi 0.99.5 is now out. It is available from the Woopsi website:
http://woopsi.org
The big change this time around is the rendering system. Instead of each gadget needing to redraw itself when its appearance changes, gadgets now push their damaged rectangles to a queue that is redrawn every VBL.
In short - redrawing the screen is faster and the code is simpler.
The FreeType library and associated classes are no longer being distributed as part of Woopsi. Instead, Lakedaemon has put together a distribution of Woopsi that includes ported libraries and extra classes. These provide Woopsi with a wealth of extra functionality. His distribution can be found here:
http://bitbucket.org/Lakedaemon/ndstoolkit/overview
On top of the FreeType library, Woopsi font classes and an "XmlBox" gadget, it includes DS ports of:
- libjpeg
- libmxml
- libpng
- libsqlite3
- libz
The full changelog is below.
Fixes:
- Removed freetype classes, library and example (Lakedaemon's distro will provide this functionality).
- Examples build script uses for loop instead of explicitly named folders.
- Gadget::checkCollision(Gadget) works correctly.
- Tests build script uses for loop instead of explicitly named folders.
- Fixed memory leaks in Text::getLineTrimmedLength().
- Rewrote RectCache::splitRectangles() for speed and clarity.
- Increased delays for SDL double click and key repeat times.
- Fixed memory leak in demo.
- Fixed memory leak in PackedFontBase::getStringWidth().
- Fixed memory leak in MultiLineTextBox::moveCursorToPosition().
- ScrollingPanel::scroll() redraws correctly on top screen.
- Renamed Text class to Document.
- Document class contains a WoopsiString instead of inheriting from it.
- Removed DimmedScreen class (not compatible with new rendering system).
- Removed erased flag from Gadget.
- Removed Gadget::erase().
- Removed Gadget::eraseGadget().
- Removed Gadget::redraw().
- Removed Gadget::redrawDirty().
- Removed Gadget::drawChildren().
- Removed Gadget::redrawDirtyChildren().
- ListData destructor does not fire list changed events.
- Removed AmigaWindow::redrawBorder().
- Removed Woopsi::eraseRect().
- Gadget::getChild() no longer returns a const gadget.
- Removed visibleRegionCacheInvalid flag from gadget.
- Removed Gadget::enableDrawing().
- Removed Gadget::disableDrawing().
- Removed drawingEnabled flag from Gadget.
- Gadget::remove() and removeChild() will trigger a redraw of the gadget's visible regions (ie. erase it) automatically.
- Pong uses a SuperBitmap as its display.
- WoopsiArray doubles in size each time it needs to grow instead of increasing by 100.
- ScrollingPanel::scroll() uses the new rendering system.
- Fixed FileRequester border.
- FileListBox re-raises ListBox value changed events.
- ListBox no longer raises events when deselecting options when double-clicked (correctly raised when selecting the correct option).
- Fixed horizontal position of text in left-aligned text box.
- ScrollingTextBox scrolls line-by-line when scrollbar is dragged instead of smooth-scrolling (easier to read).
- Added virtual destructor to ListBoxBase.
- Moved border size defines from window.h to amigawindow.h and made them consts.
- Changed DYNAMIC_ARRAY_SIZE define in woopsiarray.h to a const.
- Changed GLYPH_MAP_SIZE define in fontbase.h to a const.
- Changed defines in glyphs.h to consts.
- Moved SCREEN_WIDTH and SCREEN_HEIGHT defines into sdl/nds.h.
- Changed defines in defines.h to consts.
- Woopsi::handleKey() expects an s32 instead of a u32 as the heldTime argument.
- PadHeldTime struct stores values as s32 instead of u32.
- Gadget::getCloseType() is const.
- ScrollingTextBox and ScrollingListBox scrollbars move in steps instead of smoothly as their lists are scrolled.
- Rewritten slider logic again.
- ScrollingListBox scrollbar updates correctly as list changes or gadget is resized.
- ScrollingTextBox scrollbar updates correctly if gadget is resized.
New Features:
- Added makefile for demo - can now be built from command line.
- Added Rect::splitIntersection().
- Gadget rendering re-written to use damaged rects.
- Added equality and inequality operator overloads to Rect class.
- WoopsiArray accepts an initial reserved size parameter in its constructor.
- FileRequester includes filename textbox.
- Added FileRequester::getTextBoxFileName().
- Added Range class.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the best Mario game of all time according to ONM readers.
Members of the ONM forum have been voting for their favourite Mario games and the plumber's latest Wii adventure took top spot ahead of the original Galaxy.
Commenting on their reader's choice, ONM said: "We're only in the first year of a new decade but already it's hard to see how Miyamoto will better this masterpiece in the next ten years. He took the foundations of Galaxy, threw a ton of genius new ideas at it and added Yoshi."
Today's top ten is one of several special Mario features on ONM this week as the site celebrates the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Readers have also picked their favourite moments from the Super Mario series and shared their ideas for new Mario power-ups.

Be ready for the onslaught of the white flame and the black electric bolts. Pokemon Black and White will be shipped this Saturday. As most of you might already know, we will do an extra shift on that day to ensure that the majority of customers who have preordered will get their game in a timely fashion.
Another issue that might concern you is the game's region-lock. We have conducted the testing on Pokemon White and Black recently and its confirmed that the games are locked. They work on all Nintendo DS™ and DS™ Lite consoles, but only on Japanese Nintendo DSi™ and DSi™ LL.

Pate has posted more news of his Dos Emulator for DS
Last week was a very busy week at the office (first customer deployment of the software I have been working on), so I did not have much time (nor strength) to work on DS2x86 during the evenings. Yesterday I then worked on DS2x86 again, and in the end got it to compile and link. I had to comment out a lot of code, though, which I then need to write specifically for the DSTwo hardware environment.
I have run into various problems while trying to make the code build, so progress has been rather slow. Here is a list of various annoyances and other obstacles I have had to overcome.
One big annoyance is the fact that every test build needs to be tested on the actual hardware. The DS2 SDK is quite a lot bigger than libNDS, and DS2x86.plg is already over 1.5 megabytes in size (while the current DSx86.nds file is around 0.7MB). Transferring a new build to my DS Lite using FTP takes almost 5 minutes, and it is really annoying to wait for the transfer to finish. I could keep swapping SD card between the DSTwo and the PC USB adapter, but I don't want to kill the mechanical contacts with too much use.
Another annoyance is the unaligned access exception. There is an exception handler in the DS2 SDK, but it does not seem to do anything useful, the code just hangs whenever there is an unaligned memory access. These are easy to avoid in my ASM code (as it assumes everything is unaligned), but I have seen several cases where the compiled C code causes an unaligned memory access and hang.
My Makefile skills are pretty rusty, and the Makefile that comes with the SDK is very basic. Thanks to an idea by another SDK user I was able to enhance the Makefile to be able to include binary data (as there is quite a lot of included binary data in DSx86), but this also resulted in unaligned memory access whenever the bin file size was not divisible by four. Looks like the mipsel-linux-as puts the 32-bit size value immediately after the actual binary data, with no regard to alignment! I had to pad all my binary files because of this.
The default Makefile also does not handle dependencies properly. When a header file changes it does not compile all the C or C++ files that include that header file. I changed the makefile to use Advanced Auto-Dependency Generation and that finally seemed to fix the compilation problems. Before that I fought many times with weird compilation or linking problems, as I had not realized it did not compile everything it should have.
While working on making the code build, I have also tried to study the hardware more closely. If the processor in the DSTwo is not exactly Ingenic Jz4732, it is something very similar to that. I found a nice overview about coding for the Dingoo A-320, which among other things has a header file with all the processor I/O address definitions. I have found out that the processor in DSTwo only seems to have 6 timers instead of 8. The timers that the SDK makes available are timers 4 and 5, and timer 0 is in use for some internal stuff. That leaves timers 1..3 free for software use. DSx86 needs several timers, so that was a useful find.
Anyways, I have now managed to output the boot strings (using the 6x8 pixel text font) onto the screen, but the screen update system in DSTwo SDK is still somewhat unclear to me. It uses double-buffering, but I don't need (nor want) to use double-buffering in text modes, so I am currently looking into ways to bypass the double-buffering scheme and be able to only update one buffer. The SDK does not include sources for the more hardware-specific stuff, so I have to look into the dump file to see what the internal routines do. All in all, quite slow progress, but at least I am getting forward.

Nice to see some N64 Homebrew once more, heres the news from neoflash:
Okay, here's the next update. This version fixes the issues playing MIDI files - there were two problems: I was freeing memory twice in one place, and the libdragon system memory allocator didn't properly check for running out of memory. Note that when libWildMidi runs out of memory while parsing a MIDI track, it won't play the track, but if it runs out of memory while loading the instruments, it will... but with the instruments already loaded. So if you play a song and one or more instruments are wildly incorrect (say a piano instead of a tomtom), the N64 ran out of memory. I'm looking into some smaller instruments, but right now, you really need the memory expansion pak for most MIDI tracks. I also lowered the MIDI output sample rate to 22kHz for lower CPU usage.
This version enables a few more profiles in the AAC decoder. Also, the AAC player stops playing a track when it runs into an error in the bitstream like other players do rather than attempting to skip over the error. It was causing too much trouble, and every player I use just stops playing a track on finding an error, so it's not like I'm the only one not trying to deal with errors.

hm i personally thought this was some piracy tool but if the folks at the legit wiibrew site deem it as legit homebrew then ill waiver this for now.
CleanRip is a Gamecube and Wii optical disc backup tool for the Nintendo Wii.
The "Clean" in CleanRip comes from the fact that this tool does not require nor utilize any custom IOS (cIOS). It simply requires that you have the latest Homebrew Channel (HBC) installed. Also, if it finds that IOS58 is installed, you will be able to rip discs at USB 2.0 speeds.
Changes
1.0.3 (September 20th, 2010)
Added SHA-1 and CRC32 calculation (all saved to disk)
Fixed redump.org verification on second and subsequent files
Compiled with the latest libFAT & libOGC
1.0.2 (September 19th, 2010)
Added redump.org in-program verification (see FAQ section)
Added auto file splitting (i.e. ripping a Wii disc to a large FAT32 hdd)
Fixed BCA dumping (GC & Wii disc)
Fixed Multi-Disc rip file names
Fixed Crashes on disc init

Gravitii is a puzzle game with a simple objective. All you have to do is shoot the ball at the target. The only problem is there are planets in the way. You must use the gravitii of the planets to curve your ball and hit the target, but be careful becuase every planet's gravity level is different, and some don't have any gravity at all.

[Catea] has put some considerable effort into making a wiimote more accessible to people with physical disabilities. He started by extending the buttons out to much larger versions mounted on a lap tray. This makes playing games much easier for those that are lacking the fine motor skills to hit the buttons on the wiimote. This alone is a pretty substantial improvement, but [Catea] wanted to do more.
Taking the whole idea further, [Catea] published a second instructible where he outlines the process of adding two Arduinos and Xbee modulse to make the external buttons wireless.

Nintendo’s cult gaming IP Pokemon continues to endure in Japan with news that the latest release in the series has set a new sales record for the brand.
Andriasang reports that between them Pokemon White and Pokemon Black sold a massive 2,637,285 copies in their first week of release in Japan.
It’s the strongest week one performance in series’ history, and far in excess of the 1,586,360 copies shifted by Diamond & Pearl in 2006.
As is always the case, the latest titles boast a host of brand new Pokemon for players to collect. New features include a greater array of online options, such as the Pokemon Global Link – though teething troubles with that service have seen it taken down for the time being.

The contents of the book complements the game's story, and they can be influenced by the decisions the player makes

The 3DS will boast 1.5GB of flash memory, 64MB of RAM and two 266MHz ARM11 CPUs, if specs leaked to IGN are to be believed.
The anonymous source added that the forthcoming handheld will also have 4MB of dedicated VRAM.
Early iPhone models and Microsoft's Zune also used the ARM11, while the DSi had 256MB of flash memory.
We've contacted Nintendo for confirmation or denial and will of course update should it chime in.
Nintendo is yet to announce any technical specifications for its new handheld since its unveiling at E3 this year. It's due to officially announce more information at an event on 29th September.

Here is an update for SwingBall. I added a few new levels. Slightly modified a few of the preexisting levels. The level selection screen has been fixed up a little bit. I added a menu screen reminding players that they can make their own levels and explaining how to do it.
The frame rate should be moderately better but I’m not actually sure of that. I don’t remember what it averaged at previously and actually seems to me like its worse but I think that must just be in my head. Whats important though is that the frame rate has become purely cosmetic now as your movement speed has been made frame rate independent. Previously you increased your speed and moved at set amounts every time the screen refreshed which meant that you where slower when the frame rate dropped and faster when it increased. Obviously that’s problematic for a game that’s focused around trying to do things in a very exact amount of time. But now your movement speed adapts to the frame rate so it should no longer effect gameplay.
There is also a PC version of the game now. The line you swing from is a bit smoother in the PC version and although it depends on your computer it should be fairly safe to assume that the frame rate will be considerably smoother. I’m hoping that the availability of a PC version will also encourage more of you to make your own custom levels. It should be a lot more convenient to do so if you can test, modify and iterate on levels you make without needing to take them back and forth from your computer to your Wii.

Last night's leak of the Nintendo 3DS tech spec reveals a lean, power efficient device assembled from a relatively mediocre set of components. Once again, the platform holder has used a selection of established, cheap, off-the-shelf chips and made it feel fresh and new thanks to the implementation of a game-changing concept: in this case, glasses-free stereo 3D.
According to IGN's anonymous source, 3DS is powered by twin ARM11 CPUs clocked at a relatively meagre 266MHz, while overall system storage (sans SD card) is 1.5GB. Onboard RAM is 64MB, with 4MB of video memory. DMP's PICA-200 graphics chip is said to be running at a relatively lightweight 133MHz.
First things first, let's address the plausibility of the source. IGN has a reputation for outing notoriously secretive Nintendo specs and in its previous stories on DS and Wii, history has proven them to be entirely correct. With a track record like that, it would be unwise to bet against the veracity of this story assuming it comes from the same source. More than that, there are other elements to the spec which clearly corroborate with other little-known, recently unearthed facts about the system - and we'll get to that a bit later. In short, the story appears eminently credible.
Assessing the hardware set-up, it's obvious that the assembled components represent a massive step-up from the existing DSi, while measuring up badly against the latest in smartphone technology. The 64MB of RAM is particularly disappointing, bearing in mind that the PSP has shipped with the exact same amount of memory since the launch of the PSP-2000 (the first "slim" model). On the plus side, there is no smartphone OS required to tax RAM resources, but regardless, it's still a surprisingly low amount.
The 4MB of video RAM may seem particularly appalling (and is equal to the amount found in PlayStation 2), but bearing in mind that the 3DS only has to deal with an 800x240 framebuffer it shouldn't cause undue concern. What the RAM would actually be used for is also a prime concern - is that 4MB for textures only, or is it akin to the 10MB of eDRAM attached to the Xbox 360 graphics chip? The original story is, alas, short of details.

News via http://hackmii.com/2010/09/insert-startup-disc/
Those of you who have been reading this blog for a year or two know that I’ve been fascinated with figuring out how Wiis are made at the factory. The driving reason is that if we can figure out how Wiis with blank flash chip are programmed at the factory, we could possibly wipe bricked Wiis and fix them.
Well, we never found that, but occasionally some hint poke up. Nintendo has gone out of their way to call out a specific message — Insert Startup Disc — and has declared that there is a problem with the “operating system” and let it be known that they very badly want to replace it. As with things like the iOS “diagnostic mode”, this generally means that a unit escaped from the factory without having completed all testing and programming steps. This can give a rare glimpse into factory steps normally concealed from us.
Searching online for information about this has been rather frustrating. Occasional articles from late 2006 show in-store kiosks displaying a blurry “Insert startup disk” message. A few private conversations have alluded to the fact that the few thousand Wiis that were sent to game stores with this disc, but nobody has been able to cough up a disc for me to examine (or at least an image of one!).
Fortunately, an alert member of assemblergames caught an auction on eBay for a broken Wii displaying our mysterious error message. (Thanks Paul!) He bought it and sent it to me to look at, and here are my findings.
Background
Stepping back a moment, the reason that this is strange is that the very lowest levels of the system — boot1, boot2 — can’t even talk to the DVD drive or the video output. IOS can talk to the DVD drive, but only at a very low level, and only in response to IPC from the PPC — there’s no way for the system to bootstrap itself with a blank flash, or with boot1 and boot2. You absolutely need PPC code running, and if you have that running, you might as well have the whole system menu running. It also probably means you have to either have a boot2 that can read an unencrypted NAND filesystem, or it means you have to program each chip individually with a key from a database using a flash programmer before soldering it down — an expensive and complicated operation, in comparison to flashing one image to all chips or programming a unit with test pads.
The only possible reason I could imagine for doing this would be that the flashing process has a long lead time — longer than pressing DVDs — and Nintendo therefore was able to ship these kiosk Wiis earlier by including a stub of a system menu that could install updates, and then making a few thousand in this state and shipping them out with these discs. Let’s take a look at Paul’s Wii.

A little birdy tells us something new about the final version of the 3DS – backlit buttons are on the cards.
The 3DS rumour mill continues to grind away, and we’ve just got hold of a juicy little nugget. The buttons on the front of the 3DS are likely to be backlit. That’s the D-Pad, the A, B, X, Y Start, Select, Power and Home buttons – as well as the 3D depth indicator to the right of the unit.
This information comes from a reliable contact, and the source is an individual working for a major developer. Unfortunately, we can’t get more specific. Having said all that, this news should still bear a great big “Rumour!” disclaimer around its neck.
Due caution aside, let’s get speculating! There are a few bits of cumulative evidence that support the info. Firstly, there’s the fact that back-lighting buttons is becoming a standard practice in handheld devices – gadgets like mobile phones have been doing it for years.
The 3DS’ buttons all feature white markings – pale colours are suited to backlighting – and in contrast to the DS, there’s a bit of white writing or a symbol on every one.
It should also be noted that this lighting hasn’t been there in the preview models of the 3DS seen so far.
I doubt backlit buttons will be a deal breaker for anyone still sitting on the fence about the 3DS – but they are another example of the little extra touches Nintendo are renowned for. It’s also good to know that it’ll be easy to play Resident Evil: Revelations in the dark!

A new Wii controller that appears to be a fusion of the Wii Motion Plus accessory and the standard Wii Remote has popped up on US shop Gamestop's website.
It's called Wii Remote Plus, and comes bundled with Nintendo's game FlingSmash (spotted by Kotaku).
The box art that reveals the new Wii Remote does not appear to be on UK website listings for FlingSmash, which is without a European release date.
What is FlingSmash anyway? Well, since you asked...
"FlingSmash combines the hands-on fun of tennis with the nonstop action and instant gratification of pinball. When the tropical Suthon Island is invaded by the evil Omminus, the ball-shaped hero, Zip, is summoned to save the day. Using the Wii Remote™ controller with the Wii MotionPlus accessory, you'll fling Zip at targets to smash your way across eight colorful worlds. Use the Wii Remote controller like a racket and watch Zip bounce around like a pinball to smash through oncoming barriers and enemies in this action sidescroller."
A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed to Eurogamer that Wii Remote Plus "is real" but added, "We have nothing to announce on this at the moment."

As part of Nintendo's ongoing celebration of Mario's 25th anniversary, the latest edition of Iwata Asks is a lengthy conversation between Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and guest host Shigesato Itoi, creator of Earthbound. In the interview, Miyamoto suggested that making Mario games has been "easy," thanks to ever-evolving technology.
"What's been easy about making the Mario games is that they could naturally change along with the progress of technology," Miyamoto observed. "For example, when you make live action SFX movies and as special effects technology advances, then you have new methods at your disposal."
Adapting to new technologies has been key to Mario's longevity, Miyamoto explained. "In the same way, as technology advances, the Mario games change, too [...] And as technology changes, so does what you want to do. If it weren't for that, I don't think I could have stuck with it this far." Because the Mario franchise is meant to change with technology, there hasn't ever been a "roadmap" for the series. Instead, the impromptu schedule of Mario games has fueled its creative stamina. "The games turn out more fun that way than if you planned everything out on paper," Miyamoto added.
Although Miyamoto has been working with Nintendo and the Mario series for the past 25 years, it seems the famed designer isn't ready to quit any time soon. When quizzed about his position 25 years from now (when he's 85!), Miyamoto admitted that "I'll probably be working on something." Of course, there's a caveat: "If I'm still alive then."

New from Thatotherdev
Here is a long overdue update for They Do Not Die. It doesn’t do everything I was planning but has a few additions.
The level viewer has officially become WYSIWYG level editor. You can edit levels but not create them so if you want to make a new level without overwriting one of the preexisting ones you will need to go copy one of them in the “Maps” folder. I would love to see any new levels that anybody makes so post links in the comments.
There is single screen co-op play now. You can have up to four players and you all share the same health and energy bar. When playing with multiple people the camera stops repositioning itself based on where your pointing and instead places itself in the middle of all the players. There are invisible walls keeping you from getting too far away from each other.
There is also a Windows version now. Yeah, that’s right, I made a PC game then restarted making the game and then started again on Wii only to then port its incomplete Wii version back to PC. Give me a few more years and I’ll have an even more incomplete build of it available for PC that will have been designed for xbox 720. The PC version is single player only.

News from Pate concerning his Dos Emulator for DS:
Okay, now I finally got some proper progress done with DS2x86! Yesterday I still fought with the screen update problem, and also had problems with the key input. Late yesterday I finally got the screen update to work without hanging, and also found the solution the the key input problem. I am using a couple of techniques that are unsupported by the current SDK, so I have had to come up with some hacks to work around the limitations of the SDK.
The first big issue was that the SDK only has one function to refresh the NDS screen, called ds2_flipScreen as it flips the two internal screen buffers. Using this function the current buffer gets sent to NDS and you can then start writing to the other buffer. I need to build the 16-bit 256x192 screen buffer from the emulated PC screen data, so I already have a sort of internal double-buffering. The screen contents that are being written to by the running software is separate to the buffer that gets sent to the NDS. I did not want to add another double-buffering layer and copy all the data for every single frame, but instead use only one buffer and (in text modes) only build the characters that have changed since the last frame.
Looking into the SDK dump files I found out that ds2_flipScreen calls a function called update_buf, that simply sends the current buffer to the NDS side, and luckily that function was not static so I could call it directly from my screen update code. However, it gets a handle variable up_screen_handle as it's parameter, and that is static to the SDK library, so I needed to add an ugly hack to find out the address of this variable from the original function, and then give this address as a parameter to the buffer update function. I added a call to this function to the timer interrupt handler, as the DSx86 architecture does not have a "main loop" that would refresh the screen contents once per frame. The underlying x86 code runs as fast as it can, and I just sample the screen contents using the timer interrupt several times a second.
I first tried to use this new method only for the upper screen and use the original SDK console functions for the lower screen, but that kept hanging the system constantly. I thought that perhaps the internal functions are not interrupt-safe, so that when the lower screen is in the process of updating the NDS side, and my timer interrupt happens in the middle of this and starts sending the upper screen data, this might be the cause for the hangs. So, I coded my own console functions for the lower debug screen and used the interrupt routine to update also the lower screen, and then finally I got the screen update system to work without hangs. This also had the advantage of increasing my debug screen from 32x24 characters to 42x24 characters. The bottom row commands got even harder to hit accurately with the stylus, though.
The next problem I had was that the SDK ds2_getrawInput function did not seem to report any key releases. Whenever a key was pressed, it stayed pressed until another key was pressed. This turned out to be caused by not calling the regist_escape_key SDK function to register a key to use for escaping to the console (or something, I am not quite clear about the use of the escape key). Why I need to register an escape key to get the keyboard input working properly is beyond me, and is probably a bug in the SDK, but in any case after calling that function I got the key input working for the debug screen. The default console in the SDK calls this function during InitConsole, so the key input works fine when using the default console.
After that it was just a matter of porting the DOS functions so that I could try actually starting up 4DOS. This morning I then finally found and fixed the most serious problems in my ported DOS functions, and got 4DOS to progress up to the command prompt! I haven't yet checked where the "Unknown command" error message comes from, so there is probably still something wrong in my routines, but I was quite pleasantly surprised that my actual x86 CPU core emulation (which was completely written from scratch for the MIPS assembler) is already robust enough to run the 4DOS kernel!
This is about as far as I can get at the moment, as there are still a lot of stuff missing before I can even give any commands to the 4DOS prompt. I haven't coded any IRQ handling stuff yet (which is needed for the x86 code to read the keyboard I/O ports), all I/O port handling is still missing (so even when I get the IRQ handling done the IRQ has nothing to read yet), and all the bottom screen keyboard graphics are still missing (as the DSx86 keyboard graphics are 16-color and the DS2x86 graphics need to be 16-bit coloured). These should all be resonably straightforward, unless I run into some unforeseen obstacles when porting them from the current DSx86 code. But, in any case, I am pretty happy with the progress I have been able to achieve during the last week. Currently it looks like DS2x86 might actually be a reality one day. :-)

Fantasix proposes "Falling Boy" small adjustment Falldown coded in lua . Requires the interpreter Micro Lua DS to operate.
I wanted to create a small game that requires no graphical resources , with a simple concept , which would allow me to improve my Lua.
Thus was born , Falling Boy, a small StickMan which aims to survive as long as possible on both screens of the DS.
Gravity is there to do fall, and platforms rising are there to take him to Paradise.
So you must dodge the platforms while avoiding falling.

German newspaper Bild has published a story giving release dates and pricing for Nintendo's new 3DS handheld, claiming that the machine will be available in Japan on November 11, 2010 and Europe in the Spring of 2011, priced at €200 (£170.19).
The paper has made predictions before, correctly pre-empting Satoro Iwata's announcement of the Wii-mote with a story in 2005. However, Bild - the best selling newspaper in Europe - doesn't have the best reputation for accountable reporting, focusing largely on tabloid stories.
Nintendo has said previously that 3DS would be released in 2011, and is expected to confirm exact dates and prices at a press conference on Wednesday.
Several titles were also listed as being 3DS's launch games: Mario Kart 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle.
No source was given for the 3DS pricing and release information by Bild, which was noticed and reported via NeoGAF.

Nintendo has confirmed the planned release of a revised version of its Wii Remote, following a now-pulled listing on retailer GameStop.
GameStop posted an entry and accompanying image for upcoming game FlingSmash which boasts of a bundled 'Wii Remote Plus', costing $49.99 and due on November 7.
The Wii Remote Plus is widely speculated to be a controller with an integrated Motion Plus add-on, as FlingSmash requires the latter to play.
Nintendo has confirmed the existence of the new controller, the first official revision of the base remote, to GamesIndustry.biz sister site Eurogamer.net, but would not provide further details.

An eBay user by the name of rifaavalon recently tipped us off to an item of interest that's currently on his storefront: An SNES retail display unit. This relic comes with an illuminated case, a monitor, a console and two built-in controllers -- but no games. (We're sure you have some lying around.)
The opening bid for the display unit is $100, which may seem a tad high for a secondhand video game console cage at first glance. Then again, think of it this way -- you're not just buying a demo unit, you're buying history. Think of all the shoppers this thing distracted with its 16-bit siren song. Better yet, think of all the hand grime that's been baked onto those controllers! Those things could probably be used to re-clone a good portion of the human race in the event of some catastrophic disaster.

News from http://thatotherdev.wordpress.com/
I totally rewrote the game. Got rid of its dependency on Box2D (the game was originally pretty much made just to mess around with Box2D on Wii which was giving me trouble for reasons that I don’t want to get into which is what really led me to actually remake They Do Not Die instead of doing more of a direct port) and used my own self made collision and bouncing system in its place.
It has a two player mode now. Single player is still available as an option. There is obviously also a menu now to allow you to select how many people will be playing.
Instead of using the directional pad the gameplay is now motion controlled. You hold the controller sideways like a NES controller and tilt it forward and back to move the on screen paddle up or down.

Nintendo is preparing to announce more details about the Nintendo 3DS tomorrow at a press conference. And one of the the features likely to be revealed is 3DSWare.
A trademark popped up in Europe for 3DSWare, which sounds like a successor to DSiWare, a digital download service for the Nintendo DSi. DSiWare games range in price from 200 DSiWare Points ($2) to 1,200 DSiWare Points (Shantae). Perhaps, we’ll see some DSiWare titles pop up as 3DSWare downloads when the system launches?

Enough with the rumored prices and launch dates for the 3DS already, let's get official. Nintendo just announced a February 26 ship date in Japan for ¥25,000 (about $298). It'll then land in the US and Europe in March for an undisclosed amount. Launch colors are aqua blue or cosmo black. At a press event in Japan, Nintendo demonstrated the ability to take your picture using the 3DS' front-facing camera and then automatically convert the image into a Mii -- you can edit it too using Mii Studio on the 3DS. You can even merge two photos into a single image if you choose. Images can then be exported as QR codes in wireless "tag mode" or as a file to a bundled 2GB SD card.
Ninty also announced a special edition Super Mario DSi LL (no hardware changes) set to launch for ¥18,000 in Japan on October 28th. It also confirmed that a Wii Remote Plus is in development and will be announced at a date some time in the future. And a partnership with Fuji TV will trial 3D video streaming to Nintendo's new handheld. Finally, a virtual console-style store will serve up downloadable Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games on the 3DS.
Update: Nintendo just launched its 3DS microsite in Japan with a bit more product detail including a new feature overview video found after the break. In it we see a built-in pedometer and what looks like background multitasking (or at least a state save) letting you launch other apps and then return to a game at the exact same point you left it. Nintendo also demonstrates the Mii Plaza app that lets you collect and view Miis from 3DS owners you pass throughout the day (even when the 3DS is sleeping); Augmented Reality gaming with six AR cards included in the box; a long-press home button for in-game access to web browsing, WiFi toggle, and more; a Book app; and note writing / diary software.

Nintendo's 3DS hardware will launch in Japan on February 26, 2011, with the portable hitting the US and Europe a month later in March.
The new system, which features a 3D display and does not require separate glasses, will retail in Japan for ¥25,000 ($298 / £188).
During a press conference in Tokyo this morning, president Satoru Iwata demonstrated functions of the 3DS, including the passive tag feature that allows the handheld to communicate with other systems, able to exchange game data stored on the hardware. The system will be able to download content and data via WiFi when in sleep mode.
The Mii Studio software allows the user to create Mii avatars from pictures taken with the 3DS, which can then be stored on the bundled 2GB memory card.
It was also confirmed that the Virtual Console store will sell Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles for the system.
First-party software for the machine include re-imagings and brand new titles in the Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Star Fox, Mario Kart, PilotWings and Nintendogs franchises.
A spokesperson for Nintendo UK said it had "no more further information to share at this time," regarding a launch or specific date for European release of the 3DS.
The 3DS was first revealed in March this year before being officially unveiled at E3 in July.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz during the event, European marketing MD Laurent Fischer said that publishers were clamouring to work with the company after getting hands-on with the tech.
"One of the major objectives of our E3 was to stress that it's important for Nintendo that we get this level of support from partners," said Fisher. "Of course we're happy about it, but it's more than we would have dreamed of with such support from our partners at this new time for consoles."
All major publishers are onboard and creating new titles for the system, including Activision, Capcom, EA, Konami, Namco, Sega and Ubisoft. Franchises lined up for the system including DJ Hero, Resident Evil, The Sims, Metal Gear Solid, Ridge Racer, Super Monkey Ball and Assassin's Creed.

Nintendo's later than expected launch of the Nintendo 3DS could cause supply constraints in the West, says industry analyst Colin Sebastian.
Speaking after Nintendo's big press conference this morning, the Lazard Capital Markets man seemed less than impressed that Nintendo's chosen to miss this Christmas with 3DS.
"Given the later launch of the 3DS in Japan, we note that shipment quantities to the U.S. next spring might be more constrained than originally anticipated," he said.
Nintendo says it expects four million 3DS units sold by the end of March, so we know they'll probably be that many on the streets worldwide around launch.
In the same period, the company predicts 15 million software units will be sold for 3DS.
That'd all come as fantastic news for Nintendo, as retailers such as GAME are reporting that sales of Nintendo consoles are down 40% year-on-year.

Hot on the heels of its Japanese 3DS launch date and price announcement this morning Nintendo has confidently predicted it'll shift a whopping four million units of its handheld wonder during its first month on sale.
In the same breath, however, it cut its profit forecast for the rest of its financial year, which ends in March 2011.
Nintendo now expects $1 billion in profit for the year, down from an initial projection of $2.4 billion profit. How will it live?
The 3DS will go on sale on 26th February in Japan and March in Europe and the US.
This morning's news came as some disappointment to fans who were hoping for Santa to drop a 3DS down their chimneys this Christmas.
While Nintendo failed to reveal European pricing, some have already baulked at the UK cost suggested by the Japanese price: 25,000 yen (£189 at current exchange rates).
Nintendo said the strong yen, which reduces profits from overseas sales when brought back to Japan, and the timing of the 3DS launch were behind its decision to lower projections for the fiscal year.
Nintendo expects to sell 23.5 million DS machines, including four million 3DS consoles, for the year to March 2011, down from its earlier forecast of 30 million. It sold 27 million DS machines the previous fiscal year.

As some analysts begin to criticise Nintendo for what they see as a delayed February launch of the 3DS, EEDAR's Jesse Divnich has praised Nintendo for giving longer development time to its launch partners.
Jay Defibaugh, research director of MF Global FXA Securities, told the Wall Street Journal the release window was "a worst-case scenario" and he expected a ¥20,000 price point and 3G network connection.
But this ignores features of the 3DS, said Divnich, suggesting the hardware can match the multifunctionality of tablet, smartphone and other handheld technology on the market.
"The higher price point allows Nintendo to incorporate new features such as 3D movies, camera, and game support as well as incorporating a more robust online network to aid Nintendo in evolving their product from a single-use, games only platform to supporting the plethora of media and entertainment options that consumers have become accustom to using on their handheld devices such as the PSP, smart phones, and tablet computers."
The WSJ suggested Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told press today that the company wanted to get the system on shelves in time for Christmas, but decided it wouldn't be able to supply enough units if it launched in 2010.
Divnich doesn't believe the February launch has anything to do with manufacturing issues, instead it's part of Nintendo's strategy of ensuring the system goes to retail with as much content as possible.
"We believe that a 2010 holiday launch would severely impact both the quantity and quality of titles that could be made available by November 2010," he noted.
"EEDAR believes there is both a short term benefit (by not placing a third new device into the holiday line-up for consumers) and a long-term benefit (by allowing publishers and developers additional time to create compelling content) in the selected launch timing for the 3DS platform."
"Historically, third-party launch titles have underperformed compared to their first-party counterparts, which is almost entirely due to the limited development schedules available to third-parties. By allowing additional development time through March 2011, a superior product line-up should be available at launch, something all gamers can appreciate."
Nintendo cut its projected sales forecasts earlier today, and reduced estimates for Wii and DS hardware sales for the financial year.
However, it did say it expects to sell around four million 3DS units globally in its first month of release.

As a follow-up to this morning's announcement, we now have some shots of Nintendo's colorful new Wiimote. Still no extra details, but what we do have is confirmation from Nintendo that they are indeed building the Wii Remote Plus, which combines a Wii Remote with its Wii MotionPlus gyro add-on into one Wii Remote-sized package. We spotted the controller in a FlingSmash bundle last week, the telltale "smile" text below the Wii logo, and now all we really need is a price and a launch date. Hopefully we'll be getting all of these colors when this lands in the US as well, but since this is a Japanese presentation that Nintendo is making this announcement, we can't be too sure.

Japanese DS fans face a critical choice: start saving for a 3DS to be able to buy one at launch, or buy one of the swanky Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary DSi LL systems announced last night. Nintendo has revealed an image of the system (above), along with a surprise: a 25th Anniversary DSi, also in red, and also with Mario graphics. That's going to make choosing even more difficult.
The DSi LL will be available in Japan on October 28 for 18,000 yen ($215). The DSi, featuring an adorable little Mario jumping over the camera, will be available the same day for 14,800 yen ($177) -- but only from 7-Eleven and its online shop.

We know them by the catchy names "Itsu no Ma Tsuushin" and "Surechigai Tsuushin," but an English-language hardware outline for the 3DS (PDF) provides the English names for these Tag Mode services, both of which allow the 3DS to communicate wirelessly without the user's involvement.
The ability for the 3DS to seek wi-fi signals while sleeping, and automatically download content, is known as "SpotPass," while the passive communication between DS systems (used, for example, to trade Miis in the new Mii Plaza) is "StreetPass." "It is possible to transmit data for multiple games simultaneously," the document notes.

Despite the 3DS making its big appearance at Nintendo's conference and dominating the news, that system doesn't get to claim the weirdest story of the night. The humble DS gets that honor, thanks to "Battle & Get! Pokemon Typing DS," which is exactly what it sounds like. Judging by the screenshots (available here), you type Pokemon and attack names when prompted, using a virtual keyboard. Wacky!
Also wacky: Kirby (tentative title), a new DS game which appears to have the player managing a team of up to 10 Kirbies at a time. We sincerely hope there are no restaurants in the game. Both games will be released in 2011.
There's also a training game about dogs who know English, but considering America's widespread knowledge of English -- and the partnership with the Japanese NHK television network -- it's safe to say that one is Japan-only.

Beyond gaming applications, Nintendo's upcoming handheld console will feature media functionality as well -- this much we knew. What Nintendo announced at its press conference today in Japan, however, is that the 3DS will also be streaming 3D videos "on an experimental basis" through a partnership with Fuji TV, available at launch.
Like Fuji TV itself, North Americans and Europeans likely won't be getting the service, but we have to imagine major US cable providers can't be ignoring the move. Just imagine a service to charge for individual episodes of children's programming on a Nintendo handheld! Wait, actually, don't imagine that. We're so, so sorry, world.

The 3DS is going to answer DSiWare fans' prayers (except for the one about not having to pay 300 bucks for a new system). A hardware fact sheet (PDF) notes that it is possible to move downloaded software from one 3DS to a newly-purchased 3DS (at least, if our translation is accurate). In addition, it is possible to move downloaded DSiWare from a DSi or DSi XL.
Some (unspecified) software can't be moved, and Nintendo warns that there are limits on the number of times a transfer can be undertaken, but this is leaps and bounds ahead of the DSi's current limits, which are set at zero games and zero times.

News via http://forums.daedalusx64.com/viewto...t=2640&start=0
DaedalusX64 is the best Nintendo 64 Emulator available exclusively for the PSP. To eliminate some frequently asked questions: No, the Emulator is not perfect, so any graphical bugs, or speed issues are considered normal. Yes, the audio does not always play full speed and can cause the Emulator to crash. The latest compiled rev of DaedalusX64 can be found below, and I will try my best to upload the latest rev when I'm aware of it's commit. Thank you DaedalusX64 Team, and keep up the hard work.
What's changed in this revision:
Revision 580
[+] Missing heart is back, map arrows shows and also hud clock works in OOT & MM
[+] Even faster texture check for OOT and MK64 using u32 hash instead of u8
Note PSPRenderer.cpp now has a wire-frame mode in a #define at the top

News from Play Asia
Here is a console that will win you all the bragging rights in the world: Nintendo™ 3DS. This little gadget opens a vast array of gaming possibilities and all the challenges you need to keep you captivated. Announced during the E3 conferences earlier, the console has finally scheduled for release in February 2011.
The most prominent feature is of course the upper liquid crystal screen, which is 3.53 inches big. The 800 x 240 pixel screen has interspersing lines of pixels that display graphics for left and right eye separately, thus creating a 3D effect. You can control the depth of the display through a switch.
The lower touch screen is 3.02 inches wide with 320 x 240 pixels. With this new dimension comes new controls: a slide pad, a motion sensor and a gyro-sensor.
There is a game cartridge slot and an SD card slot, the 3DS cartridges are the same size as the previous cartridges and the console is backwards compatible. There are three cameras on this console, 2 on the outside and 1 within the clam shell. To accommodate people with large hands, the touch pen attached is stretchable.
Networking gets an upgrade in security, 3DS™ gamers can play together through the adhoc network mode and the access to the internet becomes even safer.
We updated the listing information, but was allocation and prices are rather difficult to estimate at this point, we decided to accept reservations for the 3DS instead of preorders.
The reservation will not require a down payment. As soon as we have a price and know how many consoles we are able to get around the release date, customers on the waiting list will have the opportunity to convert their reservations into orders, by accepting our price offer.
Currently, we have the blue and the black consoles announced for reservations:
Nintendo 3DS (Aqua Blue) [no money-down reservation only] JPN N/A
Nintendo 3DS (Cosmo Black) [no money-down reservation only] JPN N

libNoise v0.1 released by myrkr
libNoise generates coherent noise. Map Maker is similar, but uses a diamond square algorithm. It has not been rigorously tested, but most things that don't involve file reading/writing should work. I really only changed the makefile.
It has also been ported to XNA. A video with libnoise xna.
The quartz composer plugin (Leopard, Tiger) can be useful for trying module compositions without recompiling a program.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has acknowledged that its current platforms have not performed as well for third parties as they do their owner.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Iwata noted that "it is true that the third party software sales ratio on Nintendo platforms are comparatively smaller in Japan. Wii's third party software ratio is especially low."
Graphs from Media Create data demonstrated this was approximately 26 per cent of total Wii software sales.
He claimed, however, that in terms of units rather than percentages, the DS was "the platform for which the largest amount of third-party software is selling" (with slides putting it at just under 50 per cent) but admitted this was partially attributable to the sheer size of its install base.
Iwata then attempted to defend interational third party sales as "not inferior" to the situation for PlayStation and Xbox.
Using data from Media Create and NPD, he offered that DS's third to first party ratio for US and Japan combined was around 55 per cent versus approximately 45, and slightly closer to 50/50 on Wii.
However, 360, PS3 and PSP first party sales each accounted for less than 20 per cent of total software shifted on those platforms.
Iwata was thus adamant that matters had to change for the 3DS.
"We need to decrease the concern that only Nintendo software can sell well on Nintendo platforms and third party software cannot sell in the same volume.
"We will not make a trend similar to the one found for Wii in Japan now," he promised. "we feel a need to have closer ties with our third party developers from the beginning."
Iwata then presented pre-recorded enthusiastic statements about the 3DS from third-party Japanese lumanaries behind the likes of Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid and Professor Layton.
"The big expectations they hold make me humble," Iwata claimed afterwards. "Together with the third party software people, we aim to expand the sales of Nintendo 3DS, and we will never stop our efforts to expand the gaming population."

We'll admit it: We couldn't keep our mouths shut. Not just that -- we couldn't keep our eyes from bulging out of their sockets and our feet from skipping up and down the LA Convention Center halls. The 3DS technology was that impressive in person (in the midst of an otherwise fairly ho-hum E3 year, especially). In fact, we were so wrapped up in our glee, we didn't notice Nintendo was watching. Very closely, apparently.
During Nintendo of Japan's analysts meeting yesterday, it was suggested that the now official ¥25,000 ($300) price point for the handheld might be pushing consumer limits, as reported by Bloomberg (via Andriasang). (It should be noted that prices have not been confirmed for other regions; though at least one analyst expects the 3DS to retail for $250 in the U.S.) In response, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said the price was set by a number of factors that went unspecificed, save for one: reaction to the device at E3.
Rest assured, we're already practicing our poker faces for the next time Nintendo unveils the future before our very eyes.

September 30th, 2010, 21:06 Posted By: wraggster
Over the past 24 hours, select members of the gaming industry peanut gallery have sounded off on Nintendo's recently announced launch plans for the 3DS. Many in the investment community balked at the high price and later-than-expected launch window, including Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian, who worries "shipment quantities to the U.S. next spring might be more constrained than originally anticipated." MF Global FXA Securities' Jay Defibaugh explained that those two qualms, combined with the devices apparent lack of 3G support, made the announcement a "worst-case scenario."
Though many analysts appear to share these concerns, EEDAR, which expects the handheld to come to the US in March 2011 at $249 to $299, disagrees. "The higher price point allows Nintendo to incorporate new features such as 3D movies, camera, and game support," EEDAR noted in a report received by Joystiq yesterday, later adding, "a 2010 Holiday launch would severely impact both the quantity and quality of titles that could be made available by November 2010."
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicts that the market will bear the relatively high price of the handheld, though he expects the cost to drop to $250 when it arrives in the U.S.. For more of Pachter's predictions for Nintendo's western 3DS launch plans, check out our interview with the outspoken analyst.

September 30th, 2010, 22:18 Posted By: wraggster
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has claimed that the delay in launching the 3DS, which has been pushed back to a date of February 26, 2011 in Japan and March in Europe and the US, was a conscious decision to avoid stock shortages.
During the first few months of the Wii being on sale, suppliers experienced repeated shortages of the console, forcing Nintendo America president Reggie Fils-Aime to respond to accusations that the shortage may have been engineered by Nintendo to increase publicity and demand.
"At first we thought it would be desirable to launch the 3DS within the year, so we made our forecasts on that basis. At this point it is clear that if we launch within the year, we will not be able to supply enough units," said Iwata to a conference of analysts yesterday.
During the conference, Iwata also reassured investors that Nintendo would be focusing more on third-party support for 3DS than it has for previous consoles, a position supported by the large range of third-party launch titles planned for the machine.

This is an 8-bit computer and Famicom clone that [133MHz] bought for $2. It plays Nintendo games and using an 80-in-1 cartridge it has a rudimentary operating system and set of applications. Seeing a standard DB25 port on the back [133MHz] wondered if he could make the system talk to a printer. His first step was to investigate the electronics inside to find that the connector has a couple of chips that map to the data bus of the CPU and use the same control lines as the cartridge. That means it can be setup to do just about anything in software. After a bit of coding he’s got it printing to a dot-matrix.
