Activision is to release two Transformers game bundles this Q4.
The first, for Nintendo Wii, is called the Transformers: Ultimate Battle Edition while the second, due out on DS, is called the Transformers: Ultimate Autobots Edition.
The Wii release contains two games – Transformers: Cybertron Adventures (based on the War for Cybertron continuity that has previously featured on consoles) and Transformers: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition (based on the films).
The DS release, meanwhile, also contains two games (both based on the film continuity) – Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and, again, Transformers: Dark of the Moon Stealth Force Edition.

Nintendo’s most successful ever home console is nearing the end of its life.
Kotaku spotted an addition made to the Wii page on Nintendo Japan’s website which claims that “manufacturing is scheduled to end soon”.
If correct, it would mean that while Wii’s life was certainly bright it was also comparatively short-lived, having only gone on sale in 2006. As recently as 2009 Wii was selling over 7m units per year and in 2010 neared 6m units sold.
Nintendo didn’t cease production of the NES/Famicom, which was launched in 1983, until 2003. The GameCube was killed just a year into Wii’s lifecycle, however.
There’s no sign yet that either PS3 or Xbox 360, which arrived in 2006 and 2005 respectively, are nearing termination.
Wii achieved a huge amount in its life, though, with global sales of over 100m units – only the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 have achieved more (and the Game Boy and DS if you include portables).

Nintendo has released a 700MB firmware patch for Wii U that introduces a particularly interesting bit of functionality.
Users are now able to play Wii games via Wii Mode on their Wii U GamePad. Cool, right? But there’s a quite considerable catch – “Wii software displayed on the Wii U GamePad cannot be controlled by the GamePad. This feature only allows Wii software to be displayed on the GamePad. A Wii Remote Plus or Wii Remote is required to play Wii software titles.”
Which could be interesting.
The patch updates also carry a sternly worded warning about modifying your console.
“After the Wii U system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable,” it says. “Content deriving from the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system may be removed. Failure to accept the update may render games unplayable.
There are a number of other additions too including support for USB keyboards, support for Dolby Pro logic II Surround Sound for Wii games, easier access to friends lists, the ability to alter sound output so pictures and sound can be sent to different devices and tweaks to the web browser.

Tropical Freeze pushed to February as Nintendo leans on Super Mario 3D World, Mario & Sonic Olympics, Wii Party U to bear the load
The Wii U's holiday lineup is looking a little lighter as Nintendo today delayed the launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Previously set for a December debut, Tropical Freeze has been pushed to February in North America, as confirmed by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata during a Nintendo Direct presentation.
"In order to deliver the optimum gaming experience, we need a little more time for development of this title," Iwata explained, adding, "We would like to apologize for this delay and hope you understand."
The Wii U's holiday lineup still has a handful of big exclusives yet to launch, including Super Mario 3D World on November 22. The same month will also see the launch of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014, as well as the digital debut of Wii Fit U. Meanwhile, October's release slate is headed up by Wii Party U, Sonic Lost World, and this week's retail launch of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.
Analysts including IHS' Piers Harding-Rolls and Baird's Colin Sebastian have pointed to this holiday season as a key stretch for the Wii U. Sebastian said "the fate of the platform" rests on its holiday software lineup, while Harding-Rolls said this season's sales performance will dictate his firms long-term outlook on the system.

Following the game's release in Japan, where it was called Bravely Default Flying Fairy, Square Enix announced that an updated version of the title called Bravely Default: For the Sequel was in development. This enhanced version will be used for December's western release.
The updated version offers improved battle mechanics which have been influenced by those being created for a full Bravely Default sequel. Additionally, battle speed is a little quicker, and the game offers players the option to speed up attack effects as well as an Auto Battle function designed to streamline grinding.

Nintendo is planning to release a new Kirby game in 2014 on 3DS as the corporation looks to maintain the momentum of its successful handheld.
Though its official name was not disclosed, on Tuesday Nintendo issued a trailer of the side-scrolling platformer playing on a 3DS screen, closing it with a message stating it would ship in 2014.
The game marks the first Kirby game on Nintendo's 3DS, which has managed to outsell the PS3 and Xbox 360 in key regions due to a strong and consistent line-up of star games such as Animal Crossing: New Leafand Luigi's Mansion 2.
The previous major Kirby game was the 20th Anniversary collection on Wii, released in 2012. A year prior, the company released Kirby's Adventure on the Wii, which CVG's reviewscored a 7 and said it "highlights the dangers of appealing to a very vocal minority".

Nintendo has postponed the development of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - a Retro Studios platformer that was one of the few major titles due for Christmas release on Wii U.
The platformer has been delayed to February 2014 in the US, while in Europe an exact month wasn't specified. In June, when Nintendo announced the game, the corporation said it would be available both in stores and digitally this year.
Super Mario 3D World is now considered the only core Nintendo title due for release during the holiday period, although Wii Fit and Wii Play will also ship before the end of the year.
The latest entry in the side-scrolling platforming series has Donkey Kong's living space overrun by Vikings from the North Sea. In order to reclaim it, Donkey Kong and friends set off on an adventure that will take them to five islands.
The game will support two player simultaneous multiplayer with playable characters including Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that in addition to the game's side-view presentation, depending on the stage, the camera will switch to show dynamic scenes that enable different gameplay experiences.

It was already scheduled to hit the US and Europe in November, but no specific dates were announced.
A Link to the Past 2 was renamed A Link Between Worlds during E3 in June, when a new trailer for the game was also released.
Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has said of the game: "We've been thinking about how to make the new one in a way that will excite the fans without alienating people who haven't played the original. We're paying close attention to that.
"Fans of the original game have a lot of fond memories, and when we announced this sequel I know that some were dubious about the idea of us adding to that game's lore.
"When the 3DS came along, I thought it would be cool to make a 2D-style Zelda game that you could play in 3D - it seemed like a challenge. I thought it might be interesting to combine a side-on view with the top-down view of A Link To The Past. So we arrived at the idea of making a new game set in the existing world of A Link To The Past."

Nintendo's 3DS StreetPass relay point functionality will soon be improved, allowing players to access data at Nintendo Zone locations from more 3DS owners at once, Nintendo announced during today's Nintendo Directpresentation. "Starting in a few days," players that pass through Nintendo Zone locations with their 3DS systems in sleep mode will access data from up to six other passers-by instead of the usual one, greatly improving their chances at completing puzzles and other StreetPass games.
Additionally, Nintendo noted plans for special StreetPass distribution events for game content in October and November, starting with an Animal Crossing: New Leaf fedora chair on October 1, then a sushi platter on October 15. Other 3DS games receiving bonus content via StreetPass include Mario Kart 7, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Super Mario 3D Land.
Relay points were added to the system in an August firmware update, though numerous reports indicated that it didn't function properly in early September. Nintendo's paid StreetPass games made $4 million in one month, so the relay point update seems appropriate enough.

Nintendo of Europe has delayed the release of Mario Party Island Tour from this winter to early 2014, ONM reports.
The 3DS game was originally scheduled to release this November in both Europe and the US. Nintendo of America made no mention of a delay in its Nintendo Direct broadcast on Tuesday, so the planned 2013 release would appear to be on track in North America.
Revealed in April, Mario Party Island Tour will retain the traditional series gameplay concept of rolling a dice, moving along a board and competing in mini-games.
However, Nintendo has said that each of the title's seven game boards will contain their own set of rules.
The title will feature 81 new mini games that test "speed, concentration and luck". In addition to the board game elements, players will be able to play mini games exclusively or try their hand at various AR Card games.
On Tuesday, Nintendo also announced that Wii U game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has been delayed from this year to 2014 in both Europe and the US.

The Wii U state of emergency was declared a long time ago.
A poor launch was followed by almost nine months of silence – no blockbuster titles, no huge marketing push. Pikmin 3 in July inspired a flicker of activity, but that was about it.
Asda and Morrisons dropped the console. Nintendo revealed that it has barely sold over 3.5m Wii U consoles. And an increasing number of industry commentators are ignoring the old adage that you never count out Nintendo.
But it’s not over yet. Debate over Nintendo’s strategy and whether it is developing enough new IP is for another day. Nintendo’s immediate priority must be to sell more Wii Us and sell them quickly, before more retailers cut its shelf space in favour of PS4, Xbox One or even Disney Infinity and Skylanders.
“Retailers need to start seeing Wii U sales picking up. Everyone is looking for that,” says UK marketing boss Shelly Pearce. “We haven’t had the sales we have wanted on Wii U hardware. We haven’t had the software for the beginning part of this year. But we have some quite ambitious targets, particularly as we have some of our biggest franchises coming.
“We are delivering a really strong software line-up. Retailers are feeling Wii U is in a much better place than last Christmas.”
“Retailers need to start seeing Wii U sales
picking up. Everyone is looking for that. We
haven’t had the sales we have wanted on Wii
U hardware. We haven’t had the software for
the beginning part of this year. But we have
some quite ambitious targets, particularly as
we have some of our biggest franchises coming." Shelly Pearce - UK marketing boss, Nintendo UK
That ‘strong line-up’ features some of Nintendo’s biggest brands. Zelda, Mario, Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Wii Party, and Sega has lent the platform holder two exclusive Sonic games, too.
Pearce adds: “We are very lucky to work for a company that delivers such great things. Like everybody else, we’ve been disappointed by the sales at first. But we know what has been coming, so we’ve been quietly confident. There’s a real feeling of momentum in the office now.”
The campaign that Nintendo detailed to MCV is extensive, with separate ad plans for all of its major titles, targeting three key audiences – kids, families, and Nintendo fans. But the big effort from Nintendo is educating parents that this is a different machine to the original Wii.
“There was a big misconception at launch about what Wii U is,” admits Pearce. “And one of the big messages is to explain to mum that this is a new console and a new controller.
“In terms of the marketing work we’ve done against dads, there is now a pretty good understanding there. But many mums don’t know what this is. They’re buying what they’re advised to and going into shops, so we are relying a lot on retail to explain that this is a new piece of hardware.”
A lot of this campaign involves outdoor activity, TV spots, and plenty of online promotion (see ‘Wii will fix U’ ). But one of the more interesting elements of the campaign is a deal with Tesco, targeting customers that have bought a Wii but have not bought another console since.
It’s because, Nintendo says, not all Wii consoles are gathering dust.
“What we are seeing with our monthly tracking is that Wii remains the No.1 console for brand awareness,” says Pearce. “And we have done several studies, and there are so many families actively playing on Wii.
“Perhaps sometimes as an industry we don’t see it, because we are so focused on core fans who are obviously not the ones that are still playing. I sit in this target audience as a mum that has kids of this age, and amongst my peer group I have people that are just buying their first console and people who are still playing their original Wii sometimes.
“That has been one of our biggest barriers, but it is also a great opportunity because it means they are still with Wii. And it’s through the insight from the Tesco deal that we know families are still playing and have not bought anything else yet. So it’s a great opportunity if we can get the job right in educating people.”
Nintendo has turned around a console before. 3DS suffered a poor start, but with some big games, better marketing and a price cut, it’s now seeing some good momentum.

Should Nintendo consider selling a Wii U package for cheap without the Gamepad tablet controller?
Recently Nintendo released two key bits of information about its future. The first was that production of the Wii in Japan is halting, and the second is that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be delayed into February of 2014 from its original December 2013 ship date. Now, it's true the Wii is still being produced for other regions, and that a couple of months delay for a game is hardly unusual. Still, these are disturbing signs that all is not well with Nintendo, and it may be time to look to more daring solutions than just releasing hardware in a new color.
The hardware situation for Nintendo is not encouraging. The Wii U has fallen flat since the initial flurry of enthusiasm, and sales have yet to reach significant levels even with the price cut to $299. The Wii is slowing down so much that Nintendo is giving up on it in Japan, and other regions are probably not far behind. Most households now have an HDTV, and they want a console that gives them HD graphics.
The 3DS is a bright spot, but with every month the pressure on it from smartphones and tablets increases. Take a look at a typical smartphone screen, and compare it side-by-side to a 3DS. Even with revered brands from the past, the 3DS is just not competitive on a hardware level.
The Wii U is suffering in comparison to not just the PS4 and the Xbox One, which are obviously capable of far better graphics and have dozens of titles coming, but even to the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Looking at a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and the titles available this holiday for them, the average consumer will easily choose them over a Wii U - and save some money in the bargain. How can Nintendo regain an edge?

Nintendo has is taken MonoGame on-board to make the development framework available to Wii U game creators, Siliconera reports.
Designed as an open source implantation of the Microsoft XNA 4 Framework, MonoGame has been used to create a number of acclaimed indie titles, such as Fez, Bastion and Skulls of the Shogun.
Much like Unity, MonoGame’s goal is to allow XNA developers to port their games to the iOS, Android, Mac, Linux and Windows 8.
Support for PlayStation Mobile and Raspberry Pi is currently in the works.
The Japanese giant previously added Unity to Wii U’s roster of cross-platform development frameworks in an effort to attractive more independent developers to the machine and expand its library of software.

Nintendo's next sure-fire blockbuster, Pokemon X & Y, has received widespread acclaim from games critics across the UK and US.
CVG's own Pokemon X & Y review concluded that the game was "the first Pokémon game worthy of the 21st century" and gave it a near-perfect score of nine out of ten.
Joystiq scores the game a nine, and writes: "By combining refinements with classic gameplay, a revamped aesthetic and plenty of new gameplay options, Nintendo has created a Pokémon sequel that will not only be adored by Pokémaniacs, but should also draw new players to the series."
Eurogamer also marks it a near-perfect score, and writes: "The transition to 3D is smooth and natural and the multitudinous additions to the proven formula will excite even the most jaded Pokémon fanatic".
Polygon's reviewer said the 3DS game "made me feel like I was back on the middle school playground, vying for real-life superiority in battle and communing in trade. I didn't think games could still make me feel that way - but I'm so glad to be proven wrong".
GameInformer gives it an 8.75, stating it "does not break the mould of what we expect when we play a Pokémon game, but does go down the check-list of important Pokémon features, neatly ticking them off one by one".

Devoted Pokémaniacs will have to wait until December 27 to upload existing teams of Pokémon into Pokémon X/Y, reveals a tweet from Nintendo America.
Unlike prior Pokémon games, Pokémon X and Y do not innately include Pokémon transfer functionality. Instead, players will need to download an eShop app known as the Pokémon Bank. This Bank functions not unlike the Pokémon Box released alongside Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire, as it serves as a repository for Pokémon, but also allows players to transfer their 'mon between generations of Nintendo's handheld franchise.
Information on Pokémon Bank can be found at the app's official site, but the most crucial detail to remember is that Pokémon Bank is not a free app. Players will be granted a gratis trial period, but once that expires Pokémon fans will need to shell out $5 per year to continue using Pokémon Bank.
While the wait and pricing information is disheartening, it does offer an excuse to read our newly-published Pokémon X/Y review which describes the game as "hands-down the best in the series."

Hometown Story settles down in North America on October 22 for 3DS, publisher Natsume announced. Hometown Story comes from Yasuhiro Wada, the creator of Harvest Moon, and it plays off of that franchise's strengths: adorable characters conducting business and meeting people in a happy village.
Wada told us at E3 that Hometown Story will focus less on farming and more on the spectrum of human relationships – and not just marriage, as is the case with Harvest Moon.
"When marriage eventually turned into the overall goal for some players, I started feeling a little awkward about that," Wada said. "With Hometown Story, I wanted to shift the focus from marriage to many different kinds of human relationships."

Rescue the beautiful girl. Save the world. This most familiar narrative arc may stretch back through videogame time and far beyond, but it belies Chrono Trigger’s otherwise staggering display of creativity and bold invention.Perhaps the most revered of all of SquareSoft’s releases during the Super Nintendo’s golden age of Japanese RPGs, Chrono Trigger is also the most atypical. Its removal of the genre’s unpopular crutches – the random battles, compulsory level-grinding and long, ponderous battle animations – was unexpected. Its inclusion of multiple endings, breezy non-linearity and focusing of a story on time travel and the relentless quest for reconciliation was positively at odds with a long-established formula its own creators penned.Developed by what Square called its ‘Dream Team’, the game’s illustrious line-up of creative minds united, for the first time, the two godfathers of the genre: Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Final Fantasy, and Yuji Horii, creator of Dragon Quest. Flanked by the likes of anime art legend Akira Toriyama and Final Fantasy’s well-loved composer Nobuo Uematsu, the team’s title, while boastful, was, in terms of RPGs, exact, and the fingerprints of their experience and insight touch the game like no other.Set in 1000AD, the game draws back the narrative curtain on mute protagonist Crono (so called because limiting his name to five characters and removing the ‘h’ of Chrono freed up valuable cart space). Joined by his best friend, nerdish scientist Lucca, the inventor of the teleporter-turned-time-machine upon which the entire game pivots, the duo travel back and forth between seven different time periods within the same geography, righting history’s wrongs to bring about a peaceful future. By zooming out the narrative and gameplay lens, far up above history’s tapestry, the game is able to explore, with unusual tangibility, the theme of generational cause and effect. While this mechanic drives the main quest – Crono gathers together his ragtag team of friends from as far back as a prehistoric 65 million BC and as far forward as a post-apocalyptic 2300AD – it’s in the optional subquests that its worth is most strikingly revealed. At one point we meet a greedy and foolish Mayor who governs the busy port of Porre. By visiting his family home 400 years earlier, speaking to one of his ancestral mothers and offering her an item for free, history is altered as she vows to bring up her children to believe in generosity and kindness. Upon returning to contemporary Porre, Crono discovers that the mayor is now a charitable man – and the port of Porre is a far more useful town because of it. While the concept is perhaps a little too straightforward and idealistic, it’s blossomed into all manner of clever and thought-provoking scenarios with a creativity few time-travel-themed videogames have since matched. The power of the story, and the pleasure of unravelling its world’s secrets and flaws, is heightened by one of videogaming’s timeless soundtracks. Its author, a young Yasunori Mitsuda, had been hired three years prior to Chrono Trigger’s development to work as a composer at Square. Frustrated at having been used primarily as a sound engineer, Mitsuda gave company president Sakaguchi an ultimatum to either give him a game to score or release him from the company. Under the guidance of Final Fantasy composer Uematsu, Mitsuda worked relentlessly on Chrono Trigger’s soundtrack, falling ill in the process, but creating a backdrop that perfectly complements the story while establishing the character of his later work.Much of the game’s ease and appeal comes from its clever, accessible battle mechanics, which in many ways transcend the genre. Whenever Crono encounters an enemy his teammates appear by his side, in the field environment, and immediately the battle is underway. Eschewing non-interactive pauses wherever possible, the game instead emphasises fast-paced action. Frequent and inventive boss fights maintain a shoot ’em up style pace and urgency while, at the same time, never overwhelming the player with over-intrusive frequency or difficulty.

The above pic isn’t a new Wii U controller from Nintendo – it’s the product of the 2013 Portable Build-Off Challenge over at the Made By Bacteria forums. Every year the Bacman forums hold a contest to build the best portabalized console, and like every year this year’s entries are top-notch.
One of the more interesting projects this year is a handheld PlayStation 2 put together by [Gman]. It uses a PS2 Slim motherboard and a dualshock 2 controller along with a 4-inch screen to stuff an entire PS2 into a convenient handheld gaming device. [Gman] ditched the CD drive and opted to play games off the USB drive, a clever substitution that really reduces the size and power consumption.
In our humble opinion, the best looking console mod is the one shown above by [Bungle]. It’s a portable GameCube stuffed inside a handmade case with a WiiKey Fusion that allows games to be played off an SD card. It’s an amazing build, and we can only hope [Bungle] will make a few molds of his case.
The entire contest has an incredible display of console modding expertise, and is well worth a look.

2003 Zelda revamp also faced challenges when it switched to widescreen
Nintendo’s enhanced release of the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Wii U took just six months to develop, the game’s producer Eiji Aonuma has explained.
Speaking to Japanese site 4Gamers (translated by Siliconera), Aonuma said that redeveloping the 2003 GameCube title was still difficult because the team had to consider the “difference in hardware this time”.
“Additionally there is a technique known as toon shading, which gives the game a very animated look. At that time, the technique was established, but had not been used before by our staff, everyone had to do everything by hand,” said Aonuma.
As well as this, Aonuma and his team also spent time changing the Wii U version to widescreen. It’s something which has say they wished to do for dramatic effect, but that also cause obscured characters to appear on-screen at inopportune moments which then had to be manually edited out.
“For dramatic purposes, we would have characters we didn’t want in the frame, out of sight, but on the 16:9 ratio, you could still see those characters,” he said.

The creative director of Ubisoft’s upcoming Watch Dogs reckons the Wii U version will be graphically superior to its current-gen counterparts.
"I would say the Wii U version is pretty much in between what the current gen is and what the next gen is from a version standpoint," Jonathan Morin told CVG.
"It's hard to position it. I would tend to say it's maybe a bit closer to current-gen than next-gen for certain things but it's a beautiful game on Wii U and it's cool to play it just on the GamePad."
Off-screen play is supported on the GamePad, although there won’t be any fundamental additions over the other versions.
Added Morin: "There are no new features or anything like that – it's the same game but we're optimising the controls for the beast that is the Wii U GamePad."
Of course, if the specs for the PC version of the game are anything to go by that will look simply sensational.

While I'm a Mario fan, I was utterly baffled by the appeal of the four-player co-op play introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
People tell me: "It's chaotic and fun!" But all I ever experienced was that little jerk Luigi distracting me while I try to make a precision jump. In Super Mario 3D World, however, four player multiplayer manages to avoid the chaos found in New Super Mario Bros. and it's actually preferable to playing alone.
In Super Mario 3D World, momentum is much less important. Momentum counts for a lot in New Super Mario Bros., whether it be jumping over a chasm or dodging an enemy. Having three other players around can affect that momentum, which could lead to a lot of funny but unnecessary deaths.
In general, the action is slower and more measured in Super Mario 3D Worldthan the typical 2D Mario game. There's more on-screen real estate to work with, too, lessening the chance of running into some errant enemy or falling off the screen by mistake. Super Mario 3D Land gives the modern Mario series a much-needed jolt with its tweaks to the game's precision of movement.

A new Harvest Moon game is well into production, with Japan expecting to reap the 3DS game in February 2014. Unveiled in this week's Famitsu magazine (viaGematsu and Polygon), the game's subtitle of Tsunagari Shintench translates to something like 'Linking the New World' or 'Connecting New Lands.' We're sure this newest version of the long-running farming sim will have a clearer western name when it makes the journey abroad, although it's only confirmed for Japan so far.
The subtitle refers to a new trading station that allows you to purchase from and sell goods to foreign nations. Trading starts small, limited to one country, but as you continue to play the market your global contact list will start to fill up. Tsunagari Shintench also features a safari zone where you can interact with wild animals; according to Famitsu's interview, the game doubles the amount the number of different animals compared to before. Finally, as per previous 3DS entry A New Beginning, the new Harvest Moon supports StreetPass and Wi-Fi letting you trade with and visit other players' farms.

ASDA is to stock the limited edition ‘Enchanted Hoot Loop’ character for the game Skylanders Swap Force.
Swap Force is the next instalment in the popular Skylandersseries, which uses a combination of videogames and plastic figures. The first game in the series, Spyro’s Adventure, sold over 30 million toys and was the best-selling console and handhold game of 2012.
Players can place the NFC-enabled figures on the ‘Portal of Power’ included with the game, which then makes the characters appear as playable avatars on-screen. Other models can be purchased, including new levels and items.
Swap Force adds to the ability to change characters by allowing players to mix and match the top and bottom halves of the models, creating new combinations of abilities and looks. With 16 Swap Force models initially available, over 250 combinations can be made.
Described in a press release, Enchanted Hoot Loop’s backstory is that he was “raised by the guild of magicians in Skylands most famous travelling circus, perfecting illusions and spells that fought off the invaders and saved the circus”.
Enchanted Hoot Loop will be only available at ASDA, costing £13, and will launch alongside the game, which is available on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U and 3DS, on October 18th. PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game are to be released in November. ASDA has stated that they expect the limited edition character to sell out within seven days. The Skylanders Swap Force starter pack will cost £52.

Ubisoft has revealed a Season pass and range of DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – none of which will be made available on Wii U.
The omission of Nintendo’s machine was confirmed toKotaku.
PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC players, however, will be able to sign up for the game’s Season Pass and automatically receive an additional eight single player missions, some extra multiplayer characters and the Kraken Ship pack, all of which will be released before March of next year.
Paying up for the Season Pass will effectively offer a 20 per cent discount compared to buying all the DLC individually. It’s not yet known how much the Season Pass will cost.
Assassin’s Creed IV will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 1st and on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Wii U on November 22nd.

Nintendo's president wants the company to keep taking risks and innovating
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
In a talk at the B Dash Camp startup conference in Osaka, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained that the company does not fear failure. Iwata characterized Nintendo as a company that innovates and takes risks.
"When we talk about Nintendo we cannot ignore [former president] Hiroshi Yamauchi who just recently passed away," said Iwata, according to translations by The Bridge. "He always said that if you have failure, you don't need to be too concerned. You always have good things and bad, and this reflects the history of Nintendo. If you do the same thing as others, it will wear you out. Nintendo is not good at competing so we always have to challenge [the status quo] by making something new, rather than competing in an existing market."
Iwata explained that Nintendo has always gone against the grain, highlighting some of the company's past successes.
"It's often called the 'Blue Ocean Strategy', looking for something that no one else is working on," he said. "When we created the DS, people said it was strange to have a dual display, and people said elderly people don't play games. But they did. Opening the first door is when things are most interesting."
"Will America accept cute monsters? No, they said. Some people even recommended to make Pikachu more muscular. If we followed their advice Pokemon would never have been the success that it was. Brain Training software (Brain Age) became a hit in Japan, and I proposed that we sell it globally. And even as I said that as the president, no one listened."

If you spend your days tutting at the Wii U GamePad's underwhelming battery life, then you were probably annoyed to see Nintendo launch a 2,550mAh power pack in Japan. Thankfully, however, that same spare part has now made its way over to Europe, where both UK and German gamers (let's call 'em WiiUsers) can now snag the unit. It'll set you back £25 in Blighty and €37 over in Germany, and should let you play for between five-to-eight hours between charges. Happy gaming!

Company president says console giant has to innovate to compete
Former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi taught Satoru Iwata and Nintendo not to be afraid of failure.
Speaking at the B Dash Camp in Osaka, as translated by The Bridge, Iwata explained that Nintendo’s history is full of both good and bad experiences, but that it was important for the company to consistently innovate.
He said Nintendo was “not good at competing”, so had to challenge the status quo to get ahead.
“If you do the same thing as others, it will wear you out,” said Iwata.
“Nintendo is not good at competing so we always have to challenge [the status quo] by making something new, rather than competing in an existing market.”
He added: “It’s often called the ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, looking for something that no one else is working on. When we created the DS, people said it was strange to have a dual display, and people said elderly people don’t play games. But they did. Opening the first door is when things are most interesting.”
Last year Nintendo released its latest home console, the Wii U, featuring a unique tablet shaped controller to utilise a second-screen experience. The hardware has struggled somewhat to gain traction with consumers however, and lifetime sales currently stand at around 3.45 million units.
Iwata recently said however that Nintendo was striving to return to ‘Nintendo-like’ profits by the end of March 2014, after posting an operating loss for the fiscal year ending March 2013.
“We strive to regain ‘Nintendo-like’ profits for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014 by providing many people with fascinating games and services,” he said.
“We continue to make brand-new and unique proposals, and make efforts for the growth of the home entertainment industry with a mission that is to pleasantly surprise people and put smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches.”

We all know some cheeky indies like to put games out a few days early. And that Doris in Tesco might mistakenly sell you a copy of GTA V before launch.
But how about thousands of UK stores selling a game a day before it's released?
Well that is what has just happened. For some reason known only to Nintendo (probably something to do with a worldwide launch) Pokemon X and Y was due to come out tomorrow (Saturday, October 12th).
Except if you want it, you can get it right now. Pretty much on any High Street in the country.
GAME is the biggest breaker of street date hearts. They even sent out text messages to pre-order customers urging them to come in now and pick it up. And seeing as they are the biggest games retailer in the UK, that's a pretty big deal. (We've asked them for comment, journalism fans. They're on it).
If you have stuck to the release date (you know, like a good little retailer), then well done, you've probably missed out on quite a bit of money. Because according to Nintendo, Pokemon X and Y isits most pre-ordered game. It is being backed by their biggest marketing campaign this year. And according to critics, it's bloody fantastic.
Obviously an extra day on sale should help the game score higher in the UK Charts out on Monday.
The game launches alongside Nintendo's new handheld, the 2DS.

Wii U UK sales rose by more than 685 per cent last week, Nintendo has told MCV.
The sudden improvement in sales follows the debut of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, which debuted at No.4 in the Chart-Track All-Formats Charts lastweek.
Wii U has suffered a poor nine months, which Nintendo attributes to a lack of awareness and the absence of major software.
The firm's big Q4 campaign started last week for Wii U, and the console has also seen a slight reduction in price, which coincides with the arrival of a new Zelda hardware bundle.
A LEGO City Undercover hardware package is set to arrive later this month.

Developer Two Tribes has abandoned its expansion plans for Toki Tori 2 on the Wii U.
The studio has apologised for “breaking a promise” to release a level editor for the game but admitted that the Wii U release “didn’t sell as good as we hoped it would”.
Confessed the studio: “So we asked ourselves: is this big update really worth the additional investment? We also figured that if we release a level editor, it won’t do much extra to the sales. When we weighed all the options, we unfortunately decided that it was the best option to move on and focus on a new game.”
That’s not to say that Two Tribes didn’t thoroughly explore the idea – it clearly did and at one point thought it may have happened upon a viable solution using Steam.
“We did come up with yet another solution: Steam integration on the Wii U,” it added. “This would make it at least possible for Wii U gamers to play custom levels created by people on Steam. We are actually pretty excited about that idea!
“So we talked to Valve and Nintendo to see if it was at possible in any way. But after discussions and technical investigations, it turned out to be a dead end as well. At least for now.”
As recompense Two Tribes has said it will issue free copies of the Steam version on PC, which can be requested via Nintendo’s Miiverse.

Hyper Light Drifter, a new indie project that has triggered a fever of interest on Kickstarter, will now be ported to Nintendo's Wii U after its development team reached new heights on the crowdfunding platform.
The project, in development at California development team Heart Machine, initially sought $27,000 on Kickstarter but has now surpassed $550,000.
Extra money will help fund Hyper Light Drifter's expansion to numerous platforms, from PC to Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita, Ouya and Wii U. At the time of writing, the Kickstarter project will still be accepting additional funds for 33 hours until the investment window closes.
Hyper Light Drifter is at times reminiscent of the dungeon designs of 2D Zeldas, as well as the acclaimed iOS title Sword & Sworcery. For some fans, the game stands out through its vivid art style, with ambitious pixel art designs brought to life with a bright and bold colour palette.

Jewel Warehouse is a new puzzle/platformer homebrew for the DS. The goal of the game is simple, collect the gems and move on to the next level. To reach the exit you will have to navigate spikes, fire, and other challenges. The current state of the project is an early release with just 15 levels. Test it out and then give your thoughts via the on-going discussion link below.

An upgraded Nintendo 3DS version of Square Enix's PSOne-era mascot racerChocobo Racing has ceased development, creator Takashi Tokita confirmed with Siliconera.
"The original Chocobo Racing was made by me," Tokita told Siliconera. "But the one for the 3DS was a project being handled by someone else, and as far as I know, it has been closed. Now, if I had made it, I would have made sure that it came out. Unfortunately I was not!"
Chocobo Racing 3D was one of the first games Square Enix announced for the Nintendo 3DS, though few details were revealed regarding the project beyond a handful of screenshots and a [video=youtube;hEUOOgNzOv4]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgP7UdqMFVQ"]brief gameplay snippet[/URL]. Rest in peace, little chocobo. May you roam forever free in the great [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEUOOgNzOv4[/video] in the sky.

Before WayForward made the isometric multiplayer dungeon crawler, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, it had actually attempted to make a far more traditional Silent Hill adventure on DS.This was back in 2006 before the studio worked on Contra 4. The developer didn't get beyond making a one-room prototype demo using the lead character and assets from Silent Hill 2, but you can get a vague feel for what it was going for by watching footage of this canned project on WayForward's Twitch video below (starts at about 5:30).Curiously, this wasn't WayForward's only cancelled Silent Hill prototype as its original vision for Book of Memories was vastly different from the commercial version that came out last year. Initially, it was going to be more of a puzzley adventure game that would switch perspectives between an isometric view and a more traditional behind-the-shoulder camera.Silent Hill: Book of Memories once looked like this.
"The original idea was to have both perspectives in the game. And I think we were going to go closer for the combat stuff and for the puzzley stuff we were going to zoom out," game director Adam Tierney explained. "It ended up not really working. The tech was problematic. It was also just not feasible to support all assets in two different perspectives.""If we could switch you'd have to build a ceiling that you only saw half the time," Konami producer Tom Hulett added."The lead programmer and I, we really digested it, looked into it, and it kind of would have almost doubled the work load to create something that would work in both perspectives, so ultimately we had to go with something like this," Tierney said, referring to the isometric view.To see more of this coulda-shoulda-woulda been Book of Memories, watch the demo at about 24 minutes into the video above..

Many gamers are focused on the PS4 and Xbox One launches, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mention a third that just took place: the Nintendo 2DS is now available in Australia, Europe and North America. US-based shoppers can buy black/blue and black/red models for $129. As a refresher, the system is aimed at both frugal buyers and newcomers who may not miss the 3DS' hinged design and namesake 3D visual effects; it still handles 3DS and DS games. The 2DS isn't likely to please veteran players, but it may satisfy parents who want a cheap way to introduce their kids to handheld gaming.

Zelda series Producer Eiji Aonuma approached development of the upcomingThe Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds with unassisted exploration in mind. During an interview with Polygon, he explained that the game won't "completely guide players through the experience" and addressed game developers' general concern for leaving players in the dark.
"We kind of have a bad habit of hand-holding, trying to make things easier for everyone," Aonuma said. "More and more, I start to think that that kind of isn't actually that fun." Aonuma shared an example of a three-day feud between himself and his director over the inclusion of a hint in an area of the game, ultimately resulting in its removal.
The interview follows news earlier this month that the game will allow players to tackle dungeons in whichever order they prefer. A recent trailer also named the game's alternate universe Lorule and gave us a glimpse of an artistically-inclined antagonist.

You won't need spider-sense to see this coming: Activision and Beenox are teaming up again to create an Amazing Spider-Man 2 game. The title is scheduled to swing onto PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PC and 3DS systems alongside the film, which is currently slated for May 2014. Polygonreports the announcement was made by Marvel representatives during a panel at New York Comic-Con.
The game will take place in an open world Manhattan, and like the previousAmazing Spider-Man game, will not be a straight movie-to-game translation in terms of plot. Players won't just be playing as the wisecracking superhero, as some portions of the game will also place control within the more mundane shoes of Peter Parker.
The game will also feature a morality system dubbed "Hero or Menace," which will reward or punish players depending on how they respond to crises within the city. We doubt J. Jonah Jameson will be swayed regardless.

PsyKo has updated CTR, a small PC utility designed to read and display basic info from Nintendo DS, DSi and Nintendo 3DS ROM dumps. Seems we missed version 1.1 so the changelog below contains the changes for both 1.1 and 1.2.
Changelog
v1.2
- New "Maker Codes" added again!
- 3DS Firmware textbox now only displays the first three numbers of the firmware
- adding support for some old System Title IDs (v2088, v3078) only available offline from cartridges like SM3DL or RE:R.
v1.1
- New "Maker Codes" added, some older ones edited
- System title ID/version and 3DS firmware req. info are now displayed for 3DS ROMs
- Supports 3DS firmware up to 6.3.0-12
- Fix a display bug in "Plain region"
- Fix a bug in NDS Extended header check which was giving bad results in v1.0
- NDS/3DS "Plain region" textboxes are now read-only, users can't delete info in them
- Beta tabs no more exist, "Tools" tab replace them
- New features added:
~ Trim : Removes 3DS ROM final padding
~ Un-trim : restores 3DS ROM final padding
~ RIP update : trims your ROM and deletes its update partition
+ Notes:
- Trimmed and ripped ROMs are both working on the Gateway flashcard (tested with launcher v1.1)
- Since every one got its own way to trim ROMs, we can just advise you to only un-trim your 3DS ROMs
with this tool if they were trimmed by CTR.
- If you are using RIP update, remember that the update partition will be deleted permanently and can't be restored.

New Pokémon games X and Y have sold around twice as much as last year's Pokémon Black and White opening week sales.
The new titles come as Nintendo launches its new 2DS handheld console, and reached number three and four in the UK All Formats boxed game chart respectively, for the week ending October 12th.
Grand Theft Auto V topped the All Formats chart again this week, ahead of FIFA 14 which sits in second place.
Sony's PS3 exclusive Beyond Two Souls debuted at number five this week.
Meanwhile, in the PC boxed budget game chart, EA's Dead Space 3 arrives in at number eight, while Medal of Honor: 10th Anniversary returns to the Top Ten at number four. It has already spent 12 weeks in that chart.
Rome: Total War 2 remains at the top of the PC full-price boxed game chart, ahead of The Sims 3 and Football Manager 2013.
Additionally, The Sims 3: Pets returns to the full-price Top 20 at number 12. It has been in the full-price PC game chart for almost two years now (102 weeks).

Wii U and 3DS players can interact with smartphone counterparts
Nintendo is allowing cross-platform multiplayer on the Wii U and 3DS to other consoles and devices, claims publisher Ripstone’s creative director.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Phil Gaskell said Nintendo had given the greenlight for the company to implement cross-platform play in its upcoming Pure Chess and Knytt Underground games with other console players and smartphone users.
Ripstone is still talking to the likes of Sony however on whether developers on the PS4 and Vita would be able to do the same, but Gaskell believes the firm will not have an issue with it.
“They're changing their policies on the technical side a lot swifter,” he said.
“We're launching Pure Chess and Knytt Underground later this year, and on Pure Chess we asked whether we could do cross-platform multiplayer, expecting it to be the typical closed console platform I've been used to working with for 20 years. Within a couple of days they said, 'yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem.'
"We're still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don't think they'll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess you'll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation those consoles will be added into the mix as well."
In the past console manufacturers have been criticised for offering closed systems and heavy restrictions on digital content, including large update fees.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo appear set to change this perception somewhat with the next-generation of more connected consoles however. Microsoft has already waved update fees for the Xbox 360, and Sony has worked closely with companies like CCP to ensure free-to-play and MMO titles can successfully run on a console.

Not one shy of using video games hype to promote its own campaigns, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has leapt upon Nintendo’s recently released Pokemon X & Y.
However, rather than attack the game directly as it has done in the past PETA has instead launched its own playable Pokemon game that it hopes will promote people to covert to veganism.
“For generations, humans have loved Pokemon, but if Pokemon came to our world and saw how we treated animals, would they love us back?” the blurb reads. “Be a hero for real-life animals by pledging to try vegan.
“With the huge selection of delicious vegan meats and alternatives to dairy foods and eggs available, there's no excuse not to give a vegan diet a try. We'll send you delicious recipes and tips for living cruelty-free to help you along the way.
“Change your life for the better and save the lives of animals by pledging to try vegan today.”
The game itself, which you can try below, sees Pikachu and pals attempting to uncover conspiracies about America’s food production industry:

Nintendo has a rich history of innovation and president Satoru Iwata says that tradition remain very much at the heart of the company.
When it works, it really works – just look at the record-breaking success of the DS and Wii. When it doesn’t work, however, it can leave the platform holder languishing alone in the gaming wilderness.
The Bridge reports that Iwata last week gave an interesting explanation of the strategy to an audience at an Osaka business event.
“If you do the same thing as others, it will wear you out,” he stated. “Nintendo is not good at competing so we always have to challenge [the status quo] by making something new, rather than competing in an existing market.
“It’s often called the ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, looking for something that no one else is working on. When we created the DS, people said it was strange to have a dual display, and people said elderly people don’t play games. But they did. Opening the first door is when things are most interesting.”

Nintendo will allow Wii U and 3DS developers to implement cross-platform multiplayer with other consoles and devices, according to indie developer Ripstone.
Ripstone’s co-founder Phil Gaskell told Eurogamer that Nintendo recently agreed to the studio’s request to include cross-play for its title Pure Chess – which is already out on PS3 and Vita and coming soon to Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android.
“We’re launching Pure Chess and Knytt Underground later this year, and on Pure Chess we asked whether we could do cross-platform multiplayer, expecting it to be the typical closed console platform I’ve been used to working with for 20 years,” Gaskell said.
“Within a couple of days they said, ‘yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem.’”
Gaskell also backed Nintendo’s handling of indie games on its platforms, saying that the platform holder has not been idle in its approach – despite not making as much noise as its competitors about the subject.
“They’re changing their policies on the technical side a lot swifter,” he specifically noted.
The developer added that the cross-play feature is still unconfirmed until Sony also signs off on the matter, but he doesn’t anticipate any problems.
“We’re still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don’t think they’ll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess you’ll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation those consoles will be added into the mix as well.”

Nintendo has confirmed that Yoshi's Cookie will be dropped from the US Wii Virtual Console service on October 18.
This follows the game's removal from the EU and Japanese VC Wii Shops on October 11.
While Nintendo hasn't specified a reason for the game's removal, it is likely related to matters of licensing with the game's original developer, Bullet Proof Software.
Yoshi's Cookie, a block-matching puzzle game, was originally released on NES and Game Boy in 1992, before a SNES update arrived in 1993. The NES version hit the Wii Virtual Console in 2008.
Nintendo recently announced plans to cease manufacturing its Wii console in the near future.
The ceased production will mark the final chapter of the Wii story, which began when first announced in 2004 and went on to become the most successful home console in the company's 125-year history.

What are Nintendo's Satoru Iwata and Eiji Aonuma looking at in this picture? A baby bird? A wedding ring? No -- it's a unique pre-order item for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS A Link to the Past sequel The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Depending on how big of a Zelda fan you are, the full Vine clip may have you frothing with desire.
Wipe away that froth if you're unwilling to pay import fees, though, as this cute little thing is available as an exclusive pre-order bonus in the UK only. It might be worth the extra cost, though, if you're looking to complete a Link cosplay ensemble, or if you just crave the instant validation of da-na-na-naaaaa! at any given moment.

We’re not showing you the finished version of this tiny Galaga arcade cabinet because it doesn’t really testify to the awesome that was packet into this hack. In regards to the features the build is just nuts!. The user controls were customized to look like the real thing, and the attention to detail would make craftsmen from the gilded age of dollhouses proud.
The machine is driven by a Nintendo DS, which donates its upper screen as the cabinet display. In the image to the right you can see that the lower display is still accessible through an opening in the back of the cabinet. The joystick is a small multi-directional switch which was altered by adding the red ball. It was also housed in a custom metal bracket that includes a washer to limit the movement of the stick. Also shown on the right are the lights for the marquee as well as the two coin-slots.
Check out the video after the break to see the game play. Despite its size it still seems really playable, but if you need something larger you could model your own build off of this project.

'The biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo'
Nintendo's greatest strength and weakness both lie in innovation, says Rayman creator Michel Ancel.
Speaking to OXM, via Nintendo Everything, Ancel said the biggest surprises in the industry often came from Nintendo, and was looking forward to what comes next.
He said though that innovation often involves a huge amount of risk, as company's control the market and its reaction.
"Nintendo’s greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is innovation," he said.
"It’s a company that takes a lot of risks. Few people understand that innovation involves risk-taking, because you don’t control everything on the market.
"Today, the biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo. People may like those surprises or not, but that’s a fact. Miiverse was a surprise, the GamePad was a surprise. What will come next? I can’t wait!"
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently said the company was unafraid of failure, and was always looking to challenge the status quo and innovate.
He explained that the console giant was not good at competing, so always strived to create something new.

Nintendo has revealed some impressive sales numbers for Pokemon X & Y’s opening weekend.
The games – the first entries in the Pokemon series on 3DS – sold 4m units between them on Saturday October 12thand Sunday October 13th.
And Friday October 11th in the UK.
The impressive number is a new record for the series, although of course that is largely to do with the fact that it’s the first time a new Pokemon entry has released simultaneously worldwide.
The pair also became the fastest selling 3DS games of all time.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said: “The early response to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokemon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself.”
The Pokemon series has now sold over 245m copies worldwide. Here are some release-specific sales stats:
- Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS) 17.63m
- Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (GBA) 16.22m
- Pokemon Black/White (DS) 15.42m
- Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver (DS) 12.67m
- Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen (GBA) 12m

As the Wii U closes in on its one-year anniversary, the system is still hampered by some of the same problems it faced at launch. Speaking with Benzinga, IHS senior games analyst Christine Arrington said people still don't understand that there's a difference between the Wii U and its seven-year-old predecessor, the Wii.
"I think one of the things that was a real indicator of that was just, anecdotally, if you went into a retailer and you talked to somebody in the games department, they didn't even understand what it was," Arrington said. "I did the secret shopper kind of thing, and they would say, 'Well, there's no difference between the Wii and Wii U.'"
Arrington said she was told the same thing multiple times in her secret shopping efforts. As for why the console was so poorly understood, Arrington lamented the lack of a Wii Sports-like launch title, a game that would let everyone understand at a glance why the Wii U GamePad would allow for different experiences from the Wii.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata acknowledged both the lack of consumer understanding and the absence of a Wii Sports-like title for the Wii U earlier this year. However, he blamed the misunderstanding on Nintendo's "relaxed" marketing efforts for the system.

The year of Luigi rages on with today's news that a Luigi-themed Nintendo 3DS XLhandheld is headed to Europe next month. It joins a Triforce-emblazoned 3DS XL that's also set to arrive next month: the former on November 1st for £179.99 ($290) and the latter on November 22nd for £199.99 ($318). Of course, the Zelda-themed version is a touch more expensive as it packs in a code for upcoming 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (a game that would otherwise cost £33). We're still waiting to see EU-wide pricing.
Neither edition is dated for release in North America just yet (the Luigi version isalready available in Japan), but we suspect it won't be long before the special edition consoles are headed across the Atlantic. Should you wish to pick up one of the EU-bound handhelds, they'll only be available through Nintendo's new UK website.

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the 2DS’ killer apps, says Nintendo.
The platform holder told MCV that the franchise’s kid-friendly appeal will help the firm sell more of its value-priced handheld, which launched last week (Saturday October 12th).
Sonic: Lost World is one of three exclusive Sonic games for Nintendo’s platforms, and is due on 3DS and Wii U on October 18th.
“There is a lot of opportunity to engage with the younger audience on Sonic with the new entry-level Nintendo 2DS console. From launch to post launch we’ll be focused on kids,” said Nintendo product manager Dani Robinson.
“Peak season this year is without doubt a big celebration of Nintendo franchises and Sonic sits high on every platform gamers list of ‘must play’ titles.”
Marketing for Lost World will include ads around cinema releases Turbo 3D and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2. This is in addition to a three-week TV campaign on Nickelodeon, Disney and Boomerang from October 14th.

Nintendo wants to "change what a movie is" before it attempts a Legend of Zelda film adaptation
[h=3]Nintendo of America[/h]
Nintendo has been pretty conservative when it comes to spreading its properties out to other media. Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma told Kotaku that a possible Zelda adaptation would have to give audiences something completely different from their normal film experience.
"This is something that me and Mr. Miyamoto talked about," Aonuma said. "If we were to make a Zelda title, if we had interest in doing that, I think really what would be most important to us is to be able to play with the format of a movie, make it more interactive, like you're able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow. We wouldn't want to make it the same as any other movie. We want to somehow change what a movie is."
Disney's been toying with second screen film experiences, with the release of the Little Mermaid: Second Screen Live in September. The experience uses an iPad app that syncs up with the film using the built-in microphone. Mashable tried out the app at a screening and found the film almost unwatchable due to the app.
"The games are distracting. Some moviegoers meeting Ariel and friends for the first time will find it hard to focus on the movie, with a new game every minute or two," wrote Mashable's Taylor Casti. Many games require an individual's full attention, for instance, when players quickly pop bubbles or tilt the iPad to catch Ariel's treasures in a chest. In fact, the games were so distracting, on multiple occasions key information was lost to gameplay."
"Not to mention the voiceover and inter-theater competition, where up to four characters talk over the dialogue in the film to encourage players to compete with other audience members. As someone who grew up with Ariel, sure, the games were fun. But children seeing the movie for the first time missed seeing Triton destroy Ariel's treasures; Ariel meet Eric for the first time; Ariel's visit with Scuttle."
Perhaps Nintendo could work around this with a film built specifically for interactivity? It is a way for Nintendo to continue to be unique, but Rovio and others seem perfectly fine making simple animated features. Is the company trying to reinvent the wheel for no good reason?

The Wii U version of Mighty Switch Force 2 will be released via the Nintendo eShop on October 17 in US and October 25 in UK and Europe, developer Wayforward has confirmed.
Mighty Switch Force 2 was originally released for the 3DS in June 2013 and, like its predecessor, promptly confirmed for a big-screen update on Wii U.
Mighty Switch Force is a 2D platform/puzzle hybrid that has players searching through obstacle-filled levels to track down Hooligan Sisters within a time limit.
The sequel is similarly played, but with a slightly differing premise: lead protagonist Patricia Wagon takes on the role of a firefighter who must track down and put out fires and rescue the newly reformed Hooligan sisters in similarly maze-like 2D stages.

Platform holder says it is "possible" for games to interact with non-Nintendo formats
Nintendo has confirmed to Develop that developers can create Wii U and 3DS titles that will connect with rival platforms.
Earlier this week, UK developer Ripstone claimed that it was working on a title that would let Wii U owners play against smartphone users.
Now the platform holder has told Develop that not only is it possible to make cross-platform games, but that it is keen for studios to do so.
"We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo," a spokesperson told Develop.
"We are committed to helping developers realise the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems."

Warner Bros has revealed that three versions of Batman: Arkham Origins will not be released on October 25th as planned in Europe.
Eurogamer reports that both the Wii U version and the physical release on PC will now arrive on November 8th. The delay is only applicable in Europe and does not affect North America.
Customers who want the PC game will still be able to buy the digital version of October 25th, when the game will also still be released on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Also arriving on October 25th is the Vita spin-off Arkham Origins: Blackgate. The 3DS version, however, has also been shunted back to November 8th.

A game-breaking bug affecting a limited number of Pokemon X & Y players has been acknowledged by Nintendo.
According to a translation via Nintendolife some players found that saving their 3DS game in Lumiose City “can cause irreversible corruption of save data” leaving users having to abandon their saves and start afresh.
Nintendo has on its Japanese website acknowledged the issue and said that it’s working on a fix that should hopefully be available in just “a few days”.
Furthermore, it looks as if the fix may not just prevent the issue but might even resurrect saves that have already been affected.

The collectible Zelda music box revealed by Nintendo earlier this week will not be a pre-order bonus after all.
Nintendo had suggested that the trinket would be offered to those who pre-order 3DS title The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
However, it will actually be for those who buy the Collector’s Edition of the title, which is a £49.99 GAME exclusive.
Also in the SKU buyers will find a physical copy of the game, a code to download it digitally, a poster and a code to download the original Game Boy version.
The latter code, incidentally, will be emailed to buyers as soon as the order is confirmed meaning that “as a result pre-orders for the Collector's Edition can't be cancelled”.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be released November 22nd.

This . As you probably already know, thehardware inside those original controllers was dead simple. They’re just a parallel to serial shift register that reads from all of the keys. To get this keyboard up and running [heavyw8bit] simply mounted eight chips inside the gutted toy, connecting two of them to the keyboard keys, and the rest to the array of push buttons he added to the right.
So what’s the point of using this as a quadruple game controller? Are you expecting to see what a full speed-run of Contra looks like using this as the controls? That’s not the point at all. This becomes a musician-friendly frontend for the NES synthesizer ROM called NESK-1. [heavyw8bit] wrote the game/program in order to allow you to use the original console hardware to play all of the sounds you know and love. Our favorite is the arpeggio example heard at about 2:35 into the clip after the break.

Nintendo sees 200% increase over August hardware sales in wake of price cut for Deluxe Set
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
Grand Theft Auto V may be the focus of the NPD Group's September software charts when they release later today, but Nintendo wanted some credit for its performance on the hardware side of things. The company today touted last month's performances from both the Wii U and the 3DS.
Starting with the Wii U, Nintendo said the system's sales jumped more than 200 percent month-over-month, thanks in large part to a price cut. Late in August, Nintendo announced that it would be dropping the price of the Wii U Deluxe Set by $50 to match the price of the Basic Set, which did not get a price cut. Additionally, Nintendo launched a limited edition Wii U bundle that included a downloadable copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD at the $299 price point.
As for the 3DS, the system continued its streak of strong months, topping the hardware sales chart for the fifth consecutive month. Nintendo looks to build on that this month, with the company having just launched the cheaper Nintendo 2DS alongside Pokemon X and Y.

Americans wanting that flashy Zelda edition 3DS XL may not have to import a European model. If GottaDeal.com's leaked copy of GameStop's Black Friday flyerproves to be accurate, Nintendo's gold-colored handheld should be available in the US for $220. As overseas, stateside buyers would get both a Triforce-adorned 3DS XL and a download code for A Link Between Worlds. Nintendo hasn't confirmed an American launch, so don't plan your shopping trip just yet; we've reached out to the company for details. Should the Zelda bundle come to the US, though, it may satisfy gamers (and gift-givers) looking for a truly stand-out system this holiday.

Nintendo has acknowledged the existence of a game-breaking bug in Pokémon X and Y which will freeze users' games when attempting to save.Anecdotal reports of the problem have surfaced online over the past few days, with reports that it can cause save files to become permanently corrupted. In a post on Nintendo of Japan's official site, the company has apologised for the issue and promised a fix is on the way (thanks, Nintendo Life).Nintendo also provided a map showing where the bug can occur - it's anywhere outside a building within the blue highlighted region below. Don't save your game here and you'll be fine. For anyone who has, and whose game is now corrupted, Nintendo has said that its fix should remedy any broken game saves.

Mega Evolutions, one of the new features in Pokémon X / Y that allows players to take their pocket monsters to new heights in battle, will be making an appearance in the Pokémon trading card game (TCG) next year. Starting February 5, players can pick up 10-card booster packs as part of the Pokémon TCG: XYexpansion, which may contain cards that allow them to Mega Evolve one of their Pokémon.
In the Pokémon TCG, Mega Evolutions are only compatible with Pokémon-EXcards, which is interesting, because EX cards sort of already did what Mega Evolutions do: they're suped-up, more powerful versions of existing Pokémon, and they're incredibly popular at TCG tournaments. There is a catch to Mega Evolving your Pokémon in the TCG, though. Once you Mega Evolve, your turn ends immediately, so you have to survive into the next round if you want to attack.
In other Pokémon TCG news, the Kalos Starter Set, which features the first TCG Fairy-type pokemon - who are resistant to Darkness-type Pokémon - will be available November 8 of this year. Both the Kalos Starter Set and the XY booster packs will include a code card that will help aspiring trainers build up their virtual deck in Pokémon TCG Online.

That was quick. Just a few weeks after it became clear that Nintendo would stop manufacturing the Wii for Japan, the company has quietly listed the console as "discontinued" (upper right) on its Japanese website. From now on, local gamers wanting a Wii fix will either have to pick up the backwards-compatible Wii U or hunt for leftover stock at retailers. It's not quite the end of an era when both the regular Wii and Wii Mini remain available in other countries; with that said, we wouldn't count on the last-generation system hanging around for much longer.

Howdy y'all, as they say in Texas - but not California, where most people opt for “hi”. Another week goes by, and we're another week closer to the next-generation kick-off. And of course, the big news of the week was the delay of not one, but two headline next-gen launch titles: Ubisoft's Watch_Dogs (yes, that's an underscore - because apparently that's how you're supposed to type it) and Driveclub. Considering I cited both in a recent “most anticipated next-gen titles” feature, that's a big disappointment for me. It's not the end of the world, sure, but certainly deserves a big raspberry. Why couldn't it be the two NBA titles? Bah.It's Watch_Dogs. Not coming to a console near you any time soon.
Following a price cut of $50, Wii U sales rose 200% from August to September, which sounds really encouraging until you consider that a 200% increase of a few tens of thousands really isn't much. Doubly so, when you also factor in the machine has now been on sale for a year and is about to face some seriously stiff competition when Sony and Microsoft roll out their big guns. There are a whole variety of reasons why Wii U isn't selling, and I talked about one of the big ones in a news story I wrote earlier this week - which is that it's simply not being pushed at retail. An IHS analyst recently did some “secret shopper” testing where she went to a series of retailers and asked them questions about the Wii U. Most couldn't even tell her the difference between a Wii and Wii U. I've heard this from multiple sources, and even seen it for myself, being told, “It's kinda the same as a Wii, but it has a tablet.” Ultimately, my greater point is that Nintendo has done a half-assed job in explaining what a Wii U is - and from retail to consumers, there's an alarming lack of understanding (or worse, a complete misunderstanding) of what it is.It's a shame, because the machine has some really good games available for it, but with the industry at large simply not supporting it very well, and instead focusing on the ease of dual-development between Xbox One and PS4, Wii U is going to have a tough time breaking out of the hardcore market into the mass market. Of course, Nintendo will survive even if the Wii U continues to limp along at its current rate, but to me, it's a shame that such a fun machine is being overlooked by so many who'd very likely enjoy its charms. One of our bigger news stories this week was about Michael Dailly, the creator of the original Grand Theft Auto, who's using GameMaker Studio to recreate the game in 3D. The original game was overhead-viewed pseudo-3D, and Dailly is using that data to basically make the game fully POV 3D. I'm really interested to see how it all plays out.

Nintendo's Wii U will be getting another platformer this winter to give Super Mario 3D World some company and keep warm through the holidays. Paper Monsters Recut by Mobot Studios is a 2D platformer set in a LittleBigPlanet-like world where everything looks like it's constructed out of ... you guessed it, paper.
The game was first released on iOS devices in early 2012, and subsequently made its way to the PC. Coming soon to the Wii U as Paper Monsters Recut, the reconstructed version will feature new and reworked levels, more enemies and an overhaul to graphics. We'd make a pun about paper here, but that'd be pretty tear-able of us.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will etch an additional difficulty option onto its walls for players taking a second pass through its non-linear quest.
Siliconera's translation of series producer Eiji Aonuma's interview withGameswelt revealed that an additional difficulty mode will be unlocked after players complete the main game. Aonuma did not clarify what similarities it will share with Wind Waker's Hero Mode, which doubled the damage dealt to players and removed heart pieces from the game's pots and blades of grass.
In a separate interview with Gamespot, Aonuma noted that the team "made some changes" to the game after Nintendo announced the 2DS to ensure it was fully playable in 2D. "We found out about the 2DS during development ... It's not that you can't play it with 2D, it's just that it becomes clearer when you have the 3D effect on."
A Link Between Worlds is set to venture across the walls of North American and European homes on November 22. Europeans in need of a 3DS XL may want to consider the special edition bundle that's planned for release at the game's launch. North Americans might have the same option, but Nintendo has yet to confirm the bundle's release across the pond.

lolSnes is a project Mega-Mario started two years ago. He wanted to make a SNES emulator for the DS, that could render most sane games without glitches. So far, Super Mario World is playable, to some extent.
What is currently supported:
* CPU — 99% (all opcodes emulated; may miss a few unimportant bits about timing)
* PPU — ~40% (mode 1 BGs, OBJs, mosaic, master brightness, giant kludge for BG3 prio)
* SPC700 — 80% (most useful opcodes implemented, CPU/SPC I/O, timers)
* DSP — 0% (yep, no sound)
* SRAM with auto-saving
Download Via Comments
How to use it
Place lolsnes.nds in your flashcart's root folder (or wherever DS ROMs are). In the same folder, create a folder
named 'snes', and place your ROMs in there.
You can place savefiles from other emulators too. They have to have the same name as the corresponding ROMs and have
.srm extensions.
lolSnes is able to properly detect the ROM type in most cases. Headered and headerless ROMs are supported, both
LoROM and HiROM.
Start lolSnes and select your ROM in the menu. If all goes well, you should see it run. If not, you'll stay in the
menu. Oh also, there's no pause/stop/reset feature yet, so if you want to run a different ROM, you need to reset your DS.

gr-ape is an Open Source Apple II emulator for Nintendo DS, powered by devkitPRO, libnds and lots of LemonBoy sweat.
gr-ape – Apple II emulator for Nintendo DS
Consider it as a WIP, it lacks some stuff like configurable keymaps and extensive testing. The video generation takes ~50% of the CPU time and would definitely benefit from optimization, beside the fact that it doesn’t emulate color bleeding. When playing games that make extensive use of disk IO disable vblank to make it load faster (eg. Karateka and Pacman).

After a lot of brainstorming sessions we decided it was time to realise one of the revolutionary ideas that we have in store for you! We have been working very hard to bring you our 3DS console NAND emulation solution that will allow you to run up-to-date firmware, without the need for spoofing!
To accomplish this feature a part of the 3DS SD card is used as a fully mirrored NAND image while still being able to use the SD card like normal.

After receiving alot of emails with questions on our new 2.0 firmware update, we decided to answer some recurring questions :
- Are you working on multirom support? Yes, we are working on multirom support. We hope to have it ready for the 2.0 release.
- Are you working on nand savegame support for pokemon/animal crossing? Yes, we will have pokemon and animal crossing working for the 2.0 release, we will not stop until we have this working!
- What can I do with emunand? It will emulate the system's storage and redirect it to SD, which allows you to update the "emulated NAND" to latest firmware while still keeping your system's physical NAND storage to 4.5. This means you won't need to miss out on fun things like eShop and more.
- Will you support retail gamecards? Yes, we will add an option to launch the original firmware (with emunand support) so you can play retail gamecards.
- Will you support saving without needing to close the application? Yes, we are working on directly updating the savegame file on SD when the savegame chip is being updated. We hope to have it ready for the 2.0 release.
- Are you working on supporting online play? We will start working on this after the 2.0 release.
- Are you working on supporting 5.x and 6.x 3DS systems? Yes, we have still not given up hope to support these consoles. But please be patient.

Here's what you probably dreamed for years, " T & F "of geeker , hammering game console inspired the concept of Track & Field . Thu coded lua, requires the latest version of the interpreter MicroLua DS to work.
Quote:
When I'm bored on vacation, it not laugh! I made a (very) small homebrew, based on the principle of Track & Field (hence the name), where you have to press A and B as quickly as possible to make a good score. Three game modes: - Number Mode: make the most of A / B in 1 minute. -Time mode: 500 A / B in the shortest time possible. Stylus-fashion: as the number mode, with the pen That's all! It was short, but the game really worth it ... Or not!

Thanks to its community (but surrender to Caesar what is Caesar with Reylak particular), the Lua interpreter for the Nintendo DS " Micro Lua DS "is now in version 4.7.
4.7 changelog wrote:
New features
added to the library Embedded File System (EFS): You can add files to the executable MicroLua to distribute your scripts as one nds homebrew instead of a folder of scripts and resources to them. "hide" for example. This feature is available with sources MicroLua, you can read more on our Wiki SourceForge
The INI library can now encrypt tables it records (Motus algorithm)
When you create a timer, you can give an initial time point, so that the timer will start not at 0 but at that given time (in milliseconds). This feature is also available for their method: reset ([time]) Improvements The INI library can handle tables that have a "simple" structure, that is to say, containing only variable = value pairs with no section [section ]. Therefore, INI.load () function can take a second argument that if it is true indicate that the table to be loaded has a simple structure (the INI.save () function automatically detects the structure) It is possible to use a picture already loaded into memory to create a new Sprite, simply by providing an argument instead of the filename All the information files (eg README) are now written and presented in Markdown The method of Timers: time () is now: getTime () to follow our goal of better naming functions getters and setters DateTimes The system was completely removed in favor of Lua functions os.time () and os.date () Variables in boot.lua the file are now destroyed before starting the shell io.open () no longer launches error when using the character "t" (for "open in text mode" as opposed to "open mode binary "for" b ") in the mode argument to open (it was already the default behavior of the function) The shell base MicroLua now exposes the Lua version used during compilation, the EFS part is better managed; efsroot file is no longer necessary if the user does not wish to include file (the file name can be set in the Makefile) The bat files compiled for Windows are a better and wider use. the make command (their final behavior remains the same) Bug Fixes Fixed the display of memory used in debug mode (which is in kilobytes, not bytes) Corrects System.listDirectory () function, which now works correctly in a folder other than the current folder Fixes bug time on 3DS implementing a bypass bug (details above and on the Wiki) Corrects dsUser.name and dsUser.message: a conversion problem UTF-16 characters provided inconsistent results Changes for developers MicroLua The Makefile has been cleaned up and improved, in its section on the EFS and targets were added: all, cleanall and export (the latter requires that the path export is defined) With migration on SourceForge and a Git repository, the entire file structure of the deposit has changed (the docs folder was also deleted but should be back soon) Our sources of Lua was updated to version 5.2 .2, more their record was limited vis-*-vis its release and is now called simply lua to facilitate updates to the warnings from our code in lualib have been fixed (those produced by 'EFSLib incomprehensible)

This morning, having sold over 100 million units worldwide, Nintendo ceased production on the console that secretly won this generation.Wii shouldn’t have worked. Its name, its controller, its outdated innards, a launch line-up without Mario. It was, of course, a sensation for the very same reasons. For a few golden years following its launch in 2006, Nintendo was single-handedly responsible for the game industry’s spectacular growth. Xbox 360 and PS3 preached to the converted; they were more of the same, just bigger, more powerful and more connected. In 2013, as we sit on the verge of a new generation, that sounds awfully familiar.Nintendo wanted more. The story goes that Nintendo, focus testing ideas for its next console, invited a range of ordinary people into a mock-up of a normal living room with two items on the coffee table, a traditional videogame controller and a remote control. The subjects always picked up the remote control first; most were bewildered by what the videogame controller had become, a muddled multitude of sticks, triggers and buttons.Though for traditional audiences Twilight Princess was the must-have launch game, Wii was better defined by its pack-in game – we’d seen party games and minigame compilations before, but none like Wii Sports. The term ‘killer app’ has been softened with over-use through the years, but here was a game which truly justified that description – every swing of virtual racquet turned doubters into believers, and sceptics into players. Without a plumber in sight, briefly, the world became entranced with this kooky, approachable machine from Kyoto. Even the tabloids were seduced – tales of the Queen indulging in a spot of Wii bowling at Buckingham Palace and Wii Fit weight loss were brief respite from the usual ‘murder by PlayStation’ sensationalism. Sadly, normal service has now resumed.Indeed, let’s not forget how important Wii Fit once was to changing perceptions of our industry; allied with Wii Sports’ more active style of play, it turned the Wii into the console it was okay for ‘normal’ people to own; one criticism, that attach rates were unusually low, missed the point entirely. Nintendo had introduced its console into an unprecedented number of homes that have never owned, let alone been interested in, videogame hardware ever before. Surely that was a victory worth celebrating. One doubts that Nintendo was unhappy that its console was often only wheeled out for special occasions, too. It became the good times console – the party starter that would prop up otherwise dull family gatherings and, indeed, inspire post-pub multiplayer long into the night. It’s hardly a legacy to be disappointed with, and for players more familiar with Nintendo’s heritage, there was Mario Kart Wii, surely one of the biggest selling and most-played multiplayer games of all time. There were delights for solitary players, of course. For me, Resident Evil 4′s tense gunplay was never better than in the Wii edition, the satisfaction and immediacy of its point-and-shoot controls lending Capcom’s opus even greater drama. Another improved GameCube port, Twilight Princess, was a vast, varied and captivating adventure, and one that remains strangely underappreciated within the Zelda series. Two Super Mario Galaxy games showed Nintendo at its wildest and most inventive, the second effectively rolling up the platform genre into one dense, immaculate, unimprovable space odyssey. Skyward Sword, meanwhile, packaged up the Wii era with something the platform has always been crying out for – a core-focused fan-pleaser which actually justified its use of motion technology.Move and Kinect didn’t even come close to what Wii achieved, though they clearly intended to. For a while, it seemed as if motion control was the future. It wasn’t – instead, immediacy, accessibility and true mainstream play can be found lurking behind the touchscreens on smartphones and tablets, in numbers far beyond what any mere game console can dream of. A new generation of players will be raised not by Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft, but Apple, Samsung and Google.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted did not put in the commercial performance on Wii U that EA was hoping for.
And that, according to the game’s creative director Craig Sullivan, is the reason why the publisher is not bringing the upcoming Need for Speed Rivals to Nintendo’s machine.
“We did a load of extra work on the Wii U version [of Most wanted] and we had a lot of guys working on that stuff, you know?” he told The SixthAxis.
“It didn’t really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market. I would love for it to have, because we put so much effort into that, trust me. I’d love for it to be way bigger than it was, and the same for the Vita.
“[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts. The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that’s where we are.”

Nintendo has officially halted Wii production in Japan, i.e. the only place where Wiis are produced.
Confirmation came out of Nintendo Japan's website for the console, where it noted "production ended" on the white box that could (translation via Kotaku). The console launched nearly seven years ago in late 2006. It's since sold over 100 million units worldwide with over 30 million in Europe as of January 2012.It's always hard to say goodbye to a console, especially one with such great games as Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime Trilogy and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to its name. But on the plus side, its successor, the Wii U, is fully backwards compatible. Unfortunately that's not helping it sell very well, as it had only shifted 160,000 consoles worldwide for Q2 2013.

Yanese v0.13 is released. Yanese is a Yet Another NES Emulator.
Yanese v0.13 Changelog:
- VSync support: Games scroll is smoother and screen tearing went away. Anyway it's done syncing with DirectSound. It wasn't a easy task at least for me. So you may expect some sound glitches. I don't want to include any third party .DLL.
- Removed DirectDraw support:. Yanese now will use Direc3D 9 and can run in basic graphics cards.
- Removed Disassembler: I think i should make a more powerfull one. Anyway thanks to Blargg for the zip file.
- Save State Format Changed: Sorry the inconvenient, but it had to be that way.
- Fixed other bugs.

GBA.js Git (2013/10/15) is released. Jeffrey Pfau released a new GameBoy Advance emulator. The project began last July. The first prototype took him five weeks. But it has worked for several weeks and several hours a day online prior to the first public version. The program runs on JavaScript. It is available online and works in a modern web browser. It runs on Chrome 20, Safari 6.0, Firefox 15 + (without sound) or Opera 12. It should also run on Internet Explorer 10. Firefox and Opera are particularly slow, it is better to use Safari or Chrome.
As a matter of law, no rom is provided on the official website. However, you can load these roms on your machine. The emulator does not handle compressed files. So please only download roms decompressed. The application sometimes crashes if the file has special characters.
Currently all parts of the GameBoy Advance hardware are implemented. You can save and load backups, send on your machine or your machine. GBA.js is able to take screenshots. It can set the emulation paused. It supports games containing real-time clocks (eg Pokemon).

Fceux SVN r3022 is compiled. FCEUX is a cross platform, NTSC and PAL Famicom/NES emulator that is an evolution of the original FCE Ultra emulator. Over time FCE Ultra had separated into many separate branches. The concept behind FCEUX is to merge elements from FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm into a single branch of FCEU. As the X implies, it is an all-encompassing FCEU emulator that gives the best of all worlds for the general player, the ROM-hacking community, and the Tool-Assisted Speedrun Community.
Fceux SVN changelog:

Nintendo has confirmed Wii U and 3DS titles will be able to offer cross-play support with other consoles, handhelds and mobile devices.
Speaking with VG247, a Nintendo representative backedindie studio Ripstone's recent claim that the company had given the feature the go-ahead for its title Pure Chess.
“We can confirm that cross-platform functionality is possible in certain titles that play on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as other video game systems not made by Nintendo,” the rep said.
“We are committed to helping developers realise the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems.”
Along with Pure Chess, the rep added that fellow indie Cubeman 2 and Disney Interactive's Disney Infinity will have the ability to play on Nintendo hardware concurrently with those playing on other systems.
“We can confirm that Disney Infinity from Disney Interactive Studios, Cubeman 2 from Three Sprockets and Pure Chess from Ripstone,” the rep revealed.
“All have the ability to play on Nintendo systems while at the same time communicating with consumers using those same games on other systems. Additional games using this functionality are in development.”
Cubeman 2 will feature cross-play with the PC version of the game, Disney Infinity will utilize apps for mobile cross-play, and Ripstone is looking for Sony to approve cross-play for Pure Chess on PS3 and Vita – in addition to iOS and Android.

Nintendo’s handheld console 2DS has dropped below the £100 barrier at several UK retailers.
Having arrived in the UK on October 12th at £109.99, a drop to below £100 was always inevitable as Christmas approached, although perhaps some would have thought retail would have waited longer than ten days.
Sainsbury’s is currently offering the 2DS for £99.99 in-store, while the machine can be ordered for £99 online from Tesco Direct.
From tomorrow Argos will offer the console for £99 along with two games – LEGO The Lord of the Rings and Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed. That deal will expire on October 26th.
Amazon has also started selling the 2DS for £99.

The portable redesign launched in Europe on October 12 priced at £109.99. But just ten days after release, retailers including Sainsbury's and Tesco Direct are offering 2DS for £99 in-store and online respectively, MCV reports.
From October 23 Argos will begin selling the system for £99 with two games, Lego The Lord of the Rings and Moshi Monsters: Katsuma Unleashed. The deal is expected to last until October 26.
Nintendo announced 2DS in August. The redesigned handheld plays the entire library of cartridge and digital 3DS and DS titles, but "only in 2D".
Nintendo has said the handheld is designed specifically for younger players and "anyone looking for a more affordable entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games."
2DS is available in white & red and black & blue colours in Europe. In North America, black & red and black & blue variations are available.

Nintendo is developing a new 3DS Pokémon game in which Pikachu can copy your facial expressions, Japanese broadcaster NHK has revealed.Snippets of in-game footage show a 3D model of Pikachu that is able to mimic your smiles, gurns and laughs, as captured by the 3DS' internal camera.Video footage of your face is translated onto a 3D model of your head, with eyes, eyebrows and mouth movements tracked. The same movements are then applied to the in-game model of Pikachu with moderately successful results. The game will be featured more fully in a TV interview with Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara, due to be broadcast on 28th October, NHK's schedule reveals (thanks,NeoGAF).

Nintendo's brand-new 2DS handheld, which launched alongside Pokemon X/Yearlier this month, is already about £10 cheaper at certain retailers in the United Kingdom. Originally priced at £109.99, the svelte little device can now be had online for £99 from Amazon UK and Tesco Direct.
A couple of brick and mortar installations are also on the discount train, with Sainsbury's matching Amazon's price drop and Argos running its own £99 bundle promotion from tomorrow through October 26, MCVUK reports.
It's important to note that this is not an official price drop from Nintendo, but rather a bunch of British retailers taking a proactive stance on pricing ahead of the imminent holiday shopping season. Regardless, £10 works out to about $400,000 at today's imaginary exchange rates, so it's still worth doing.

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks has plans to bring the RPG's sequel to multiple plaforms close to the release of the PC game. Spinks told Pocket Gamer he wants "to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so it can be released on multiple platforms at launch or close to launch."
One platform the game won't appear on is Nintendo's 3DS, though. "3DS is something I was very interested in getting Terraria on but the system unfortunately cannot run Terraria the way it needs to be ran," he added. Spinks discussed his plans for Terraria 2earlier this month, saying that while the game is not yet in development, he would like for it to feature "infinite worlds" for players to travel between.
The original game is expected to be updated further, with its version 1.2 patch arriving at the beginning of October, though the developer said he has considered bringing a small team in to offer support for Terraria while he moves on to Terraria 2.

No one had a better view of the development and evolution of the Wii than Satoru Iwata.
Throughout the console's seven-year life-cycle, the president of Nintendo acted as its biggest cheerleader, defender and, at times, critic. He was a driving force in the company selling over 100 million systems and is now trying to spur that sort of interest in the Wii's successor.
I've been extremely fortunate to speak regularly with Iwata. And since 2005, he and I have been talking about (among other things) the Wii. At the time, the system - which was still being called by its code name 'Revolution' - was viewed to be a hard sell. The controller had only been shown to a handful of reporters - and analysts worried that Nintendo had pressed its luck far enough with the Nintendo DS, whose dual screens were (at the time) viewed as being a radical departure from the norm.
Iwata, though, never wavered in his confidence.
"It's going to be a challenge to take something that's a new concept and new idea and convey to the public ... how to understand it, but honestly I think the Revolution controller is going to be a lot easier to convey to the public than the DS was as a system," he said. "We've learned a lot in terms of how to communicate to people these new and different ideas and because of the experience we had with the DS, we're much more prepared."
Part of the reason for that assuredness was his own experience when using the controller. Iwata might have come from a game development background, but that didn't make him a master of all genres.
"I was a developer for many years before my current role, but I've never been a very good gamer," he said. "I've never been able to control a first-person shooter, but as soon as I used the Revolution controller, I found it very easy to control the game. So, I think that's a genre that's particularly well suited for the controller."
And while Microsoft and Sony were busy touting the high definition revolution, Iwata stayed laser focused on widening the gaming audience. Of course, the company succeeded at that - but ironically, the lack of high definition graphics later proved to be one of the turning points that marked the beginning of the end for the Wii.
"Until now, within a single household, we've had family members who play video games and family members who don't play video games - and they've been very separate," he noted. "Gradually, the barriers between those two have gotten stronger. ... Today, if you don't understand the controller, you're not able to enjoy video games. ... We expect [the Revolution controller] to become the standard in video game controls."
Wii Sports Tennis captured everyone's attention
That prediction proved to be a bit too optimistic, but a year later, buzz was building fast about the Wii. Nintendo was gaining praise for its declaration that games for the system would cost $50, instead of the then controversial $60 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 - and the Virtual Console was making old school gamers giddy.
What many don't recall, though, is that there was some debate on whether titles downloaded from the virtual console would belong to the gamers who bought them. Nintendo certainly considered going in the other direction.
"We can set some limitations as to the time period a piece of downloaded content can be played," said Iwata. "Or, we may opt to let users play as long as they want. This gives us a flexible business model."
Those plans never came to fruition, of course. Nor, for that matter, did an idea about Nintendo using the Virtual Console to release must-have new, cheap first party games. But it, too, was considered.
"If we can come up with an addictive, but simple title - such as Tetris 15 years ago - my attention should be focused on containing costs," said Iwata. "So, I would make it available through the Virtual Console. I think the opportunity for ourselves will be much larger than software that costs $50-$60. ... Of course, there are a number of people waiting for a 'masterpiece' title. For those games, we'll utilize traditional distribution channels."
Flash forward to 2008. The Wii is a quantified phenomenon. Retailers are unable to keep units in stores - months after it was released. And Nintendo wasn't able to guarantee people would be able to easily find one in the upcoming holiday.
It was the catbird seat of gaming - but problems were already starting to brew. Core gamers were miffed that the Wii seemed tailored for casual players - and those concerns were stoked by Nintendo's E3 press conference, which went by without a mention of Mario or Zelda - though it did spent .
It was the first time Nintendo had to apologize for the Wii.
"If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means," said Iwata. "We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda.
"However, the fact of the matter is the so-called 'big titles' need a long, long development period. ... We really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."
Ultimately, core gamers never fully returned to the Wii. While New Super Mario Bros. was a hit, gamer interest was shifting more and more to the online mode in games like Call of Duty. Within three years, third party publishers had turned their backs too. By 2011, almost all of the year's biggest games bypassed a Wii port.
In 2009, though, the Wii was in the midst of its heyday. In December of that year alone, the system sold 3.8 million units, according to The NPD Group - nearly three times the number of PS3s that were sold.
That same year, Microsoft announced "Project Natal" at its E3 press conference, which would go on to become Kinect. As Iwata had predicted in 2005, the competition was coming.
That raised questions about how Nintendo planned to stay competitive in the future. The Wii was born of the "Blue Ocean" strategy - a corporate philosophy that encourages creating new demand in an uncontested space (a "Blue Ocean"), rather than going head-to-head with competitors in an existing industry (a "Red Ocean").
"So for the time after the Wii U [arrives in stores], I believe both systems will be on the market for some time"
Satoru Iwata
With the competition coming, could Nintendo find another Blue Ocean? Or was it prepared to fight to keep the increasingly red one it was in? Iwata, at the time, said the company was investigating whether branching in a new direction or making an iterative step from the Wii is the right move.
"We have the greater potential to create the blue ocean market when people are skeptical," he said. "So when we realize that other people are coming into [this] market ... there are two things we [can] do. One is trying to intensify the fun nature of something we are already doing. The other is try to create a new blue ocean."
Two years later, we had our answer - the Wii U was unveiled at E3.
Since the system used Wii controllers and was fully backward compatible, there were some obvious questions about the fate of the once-trendsetting console. Nintendo, said Iwata, had no plans to immediately sunset the system, as it did with the GameCube.
"When we consider the people who are first to purchase Wii U and the people who are going to purchase the Wii, I don't think there will be a great overlap between the two," he says. "I believe that those who are waiting to purchase the Wii now are the so-called 'late adopters' and the people waiting to purchase the Wii U are early adopters. So for the time after the Wii U [arrives in stores], I believe both systems will be on the market for some time."
(You'll have to decide for yourself how long "some time" implies.)
At that point, there was no denying the lack of third-party interest in the Wii. Even Nintendo couldn't avoid it. But Iwata did have some ideas as to why the system had become a low priority for partners - though it wasn't what you might think.
He acknowledged the lack of HD graphics was partially to blame, but also took partners to task for not using their best talent. (And, he said, he hoped the Wii U would lure back the A-teams at other studios.)
"In the US, people are very attracted by the sports and the shooter games - and the quality of those graphics are very important," said Iwata. "As a result, it was not necessarily the case to have the software [for the Wii] developed by the top developers of the software companies. And, as a result of that, Wii software was not able to succeed to the extent that third parties wanted [it] to. For this time around, we are able to expect the top [developers] for the top third parties to make games for the Wii U."
Monday, with the short statement on the Wii's product page that read simply "production over," Nintendo quietly put an end to its Revolution in Japan. And while US production continues, according to Nintendo of America reps, it's only a matter of time.
The Wii U, meanwhile, still hasn't caught on like the company had hoped - and Nintendo has understandably chosen to focus virtually all of its efforts on that system.
While gamers and gaming insiders have blamed the Wii U's soft start on a variety of factors from a weak lineup of games to a lack of real innovation, Iwata has another theory - and it's a surprising one. The company, he believes, may have gotten spoiled by how easily audiences embraced the Wii, which resulted in some missteps as it rolled out its new system.
"We are to blame," he said. "We relaxed our [marketing] efforts, so the consumers today still cannot understand what's so good and unique about the Wii U. Because we're always trying to be unique, it takes some energies on our side to [make] people understand the real attractions about whatever we are doing."

Since launch, Nintendo's base Wii U Deluxe Set has shipped with Nintendo Land; while a fine game, it's not exactly a system seller. The console may soon be more enticing, as Nintendo is replacing its original bundle with a new Mario & Luigi Deluxe Set. The $300 kit now pairs a 32GB black Wii U with both New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U -- arguably a smart move when many gamers buy Nintendo systems with the plumber heroes in mind. Nintendo Land will still be available as an eShop download for those who miss the party-friendly title. The new Deluxe Set should reach stores on November 1st, when Nintendo will also cut Nintendo Land's price to $30.

Given how many 3DS XL liveries Nintendo has teased of late, collectors are liable to go broke trying to catch 'em all. Fresh out of Japan is yet another pair of the gaming giant's extra large -- or LL -- handhelds , except this time they're sporting orange and black (just in time for autumn!) and turquoise and black color schemes instead ofgame-specific branding. Come November 28th, you'll have the privilege of dropping 19,900 yen ($204) for a bundle that includes a 4GB memory card, carrying pouch and the previously a la carte AC adapter. Sure, last year's bundles may have let you hunt monsters, but these new models are cheaper even after subtracting the price of a free game. Who said Nintendo never gave you anything?

The Wii will be available in the US as usual this year, Nintendo of America has confirmed. Yesterday, Nintendo of Japan announced that it would discontinue production of the Wii, but the worldwide implications of this stoppage were unclear.
"The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan," a representative told Gamespot. "There is no change in the status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season."
Earlier this month Nintendo of Japan announced that Wii manufacturing is due to end soon. Nintendo has sold 12.7 million Wii consoles since its launch in late 2006.

If you're in the UK and in the market for a Wii, now is the time to act.
Having confirmed that the machine is no longer being supplied to the Japanese market, Nintendo has now revealed that Europe too will not be receiving any further stock of the machine.
“Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued,” a Nintendo UK rep told MCV. “However, there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience.
“Wii U, which is Nintendo's latest home console, is backwards compatible with nearly all existing Wii games and accessories, so you can enjoy a vast library of disc-based and downloadable Wii games and Wii gameplay experiences when you switch to Wii Mode on Wii U.
“Wii Mini is also now available across Europe offering Wii gameplay experiences at a great value. Wii Mini puts the focus squarely on games with over 1200 existing disc-based Wii titles to choose from.”
The Wii will live on in the American market for the time being.

To celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year, Capcom has slashed prices on its Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Resident Evil games by a sizable 50 percent.
From now until the end of October, prospective bio-weapon slayers will find the Wii U version of Resident Evil Revelations priced at $20 on the console's eShop. The 3DS iteration of Revelations will set you back $10, a price point shared by the handheld Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. After Halloween, these discounts will drift away like so many discarded Butterfinger wrappers on the streets of suburban America.
With discounts in place, should you take this opportunity to add a new Resident Evil adventure to your shelves? That's a tough call. All three of the games included in this discount scheme are relatively middling Resident Evilentries. Our review of Revelations awarded the game 3 of 5 stars, saying that while the 3DS version of the game is impressive, its graphical prowess is notably less stunning on the more powerful Wii U. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on the other hand, received 2.5 of 5 stars, and is pithily described as "little more than a fully-priced proof of concept."

For the meticulous player who takes pride in the unblinking, unfaltering dash through a gauntlet of precipitous drops and spinning spikes, multiplayer is probably the worst thing to happen to Mario. As with New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you're often foiled by those you would call friends in Super Mario 3D World.
That jump would have been perfect, but Peach bopped me on the head and sent me to a molten death in the lava below. I would have gotten that hidden power-up and used it properly, had Toad not run off with it first. Who are these other three people and why do they torment me so?

If you thought the Year of Luigi had already delivered plenty enough of the viridescent plumber, think again. Nintendo looks set to make the first 2DSvariant a Luigi one, going by images of a white-and-green system sent by an anonymous tipster to Kotaku.
Nintendo hasn't announced any special editions of its brand new handheld, but the company is rather fond of/addicted to bestowing its systems with tons of different liveries. After all, the House of Mario Luigi has a polka-plumber version of the 3DS that's already out in Japan and now on its way to Europe.
Nintendo released the 2DS earlier this month, giving holiday buyers the option to pick up a cheaper, 3D-less version of the ever-popular 3DS. The smaller, hinge-less handheld is available for $130 in the US, while some British retailers have already chopped £10 off its suggested UK tag of £110 (around $178).

"Jon Brodkin talked to indie developers (including the creator of Super Mario Bros. Crossover), former Nintendo employees, and a number of others about where exactly Nintendo went wrong over the past few years. Their conclusions? Nintendo made a number of mistakes, including a lack of an indie-developer ecosystem, a refusal to license out core properties such as Super Mario to other gaming platforms (or even iOS and Android), and platforms that don't appeal to hardcore gamers. While the developers suggest Nintendo is taking steps to broaden its horizons, such as by reaching out to smaller studios, it's questionable whether such efforts will succeed in a world where the PS4 and Xbox One are about to enter the market, and iOS and Android are swallowing up mobile gamers' time and dollars. What do you think?"

With news of the Watch Dogs and Drive Club delays, I somehow found myself shelling out for a next-gen console ahead of time. Last week, in fact. It has second screen functionality that means I can play in the palm of my hand if Coronation Street is on. It’s HD. And it’s a shiny black box that looks showroom-sleek under my TV. It’s a Wii U.It’s had a sluggish start that’d make even the 3DS blush, but Nintendo’s latest home console has found its way into my heart, and living room, in a big way.Wandering through high street videogame retail has been a bleak experience for the Wii U owner these past 12 months, and I sympathise. The space apportioned the Wii U chart is generally three boxes wide and five games strong. The thing is, those five games, as was often the case with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube, are – in my honest opinion – each worth much more than many of the games battling for space in the top 20 on other platforms. And, dare I speak too prematurely, they’re creatively far more adventurous and engaging than many of the coming wave of early next-gen titles appear to be.While cutting edge in their own way, a key reason Wii U attracted me and my parched purse this month is that its library of games, performance in the charts and current public perception – as a sort of platform curio at odds with the path and preferences of the other platform-holders – is an echo of the past. Just as Sony has been getting its groove back (and wonderfully so) with its PS4 strategy, it seems Nintendo is harkening back to its own pre-Wii status as the outsider with the best software and most unique (and divisive) input method. How appropriate, then, that Wind Waker – the pinnacle of GameCube-era quality – should be the game to get the HD treatment on Wii U. In this context, Wind Waker HD isn’t something I now perceive as fan service, rather, it’s a symbolic echoing of the past. Like the Wii U itself, Wind Waker was greeted with some furrowed brows when it was first unveiled, and like Wind Waker I believe – I hope – Wii U will slowly but surely be welcomed into the hearts of players with equal passion. And how can you forget Pikmin 3, flying the flag for a series that was birthed and blossomed on GameCube. The echoes become louder the more you entertain the notion of Wii U as spiritual successor to pre-Wii Nintendo platforms. There’s generally been poor thirdparty support, with developers either unwilling or incapable of taking risks on the platform. There’s been subpar ports of key franchise titles. But then, as with the N64 and GameCube years, the lack of thirdparty power on the platform has served to make the exceptions to the general lull of quality shine brighter. Rayman Legends and ZombiU might be two of the finest tailor-made experiences on a Nintendo console I’ve ever played. Ubisoft’s risks with these titles may not have paid the dividends in commercial terms that they deserve, but I think this one-two punch of quality defines Ubisoft’s legacy of balancing out-and-out risk and creativity with safer bets that are as polished and perfectly crafted as a punter could hope for. If ZombiU is Ubisoft’s Damien Hirst, Rayman Legends is it’s Royal Doulton, and few other developers in the world would bankroll such diverse projects on such an untested and unproven platform or have the talent under its umbrella to do so.On another positive note, Wii U revives the golden age of stellar Nintendo retail boxart. As the industry shifts towards digital dominance, it’s a joy to see Wii U cover art alive and kicking – unafraid to pump rainbows of colour onto its wraparounds – when so many games seem to be half-asleep, or half in shadow, on store shelves. Where most games brood in the charts, Wii U’s stable brims and bursts with life, making promises to consumers that there’s life, laughter and a labour of love awaiting on each disc. Wonderful 101′s dense, dynamic cover is the artistic equivalent of a pick n’ mix, promising a candy store of action and adventure. Super Mario Luigi Bros. U reminds us all with its cheeky graffiti that it’s the year of the lanky one. Wind Waker’s new cover is framed like a Drew Struzan composition that’s been coloured in by an anime professional; a reminder that you’ve got a classic adventure in your hands that’s already proved its timeless worth.

Nintendo wants to keep its focus on new games, not more HD remakes
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
Even though The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HDtripled sales of the Wii U for September, Nintendo doesn't want to do more HD remakes in-house. According to a report by Polygon, Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto said more remakes are possible, but they would likely come from Nintendo's development partners.
"That's certainly possible, but most of our developers are working on new games," he said. "We like to have them working on new stuff. HD remakes might be a good project for development partners, so that's something I hope we can introduce in the future."
Miyamoto said that Nintendo's upcoming Super Mario 3D World was more indicative of the company's plans: new ideas and old inspiration in a single title.
"If your interest is in finding elements from previous games you'll find them scattered all about," he added. "There is a lot of content like that. We've tried to find some fun new elements that we could incorporate. I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of us creating more games like [Super Mario Galaxy] in the future. What we're trying to accomplish here is to create a good entry point for new players."

Super Mario World HD? Super Mario 64 HD? Such things could happen, according to Nintendo design boss Shigeru Miyamoto.
"That's certainly possible,” he told a reporter panel attended by Polygon when asked if Mario HD remakes are being considered. “But most of our developers are working on new games. We like to have them working on new stuff.
“HD remakes might be a good project for development partners, so that's something I hope we can introduce in the future."
Nintendo has never been afraid of repackaging and reselling its old software, and the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD on Wii U shows that the company is at least open to the idea of a visual overhaul for older software.

Anyone getting their hopes up for the rumored Luigi 2DS might want to mail their heartbreak directly to Matt (also known as wiggy) of Rose Colored Gaming. In a video interview with Second Opinion Games' Wes De, Matt explained how he modified a standard blue 2DS into a Luigified version of the handheld, complete with a Luigi-shaped indentation on the back of the device.
Matt explained that he sent pictures of the device to "quite a few people" and assumes they made their way to blogs from there. The hardware has yet to be posted to RCG, but Matt laughed that he "would have sent them some better pictures" had he known it would gain traction as a rumored impending version of the 2DS.
Matt said he's "beyond flattered" by the excitement his mod has generated, but also that he hopes no one hates him for it not being official hardware. You hear that, internet? No pitchforking! Given Nintendo's fondness forreleasingspecialeditionsofhardware, however, future special 2DS bundles aren't out of the question.

A death in the family assigns the title of shopkeeper to its owner's descendent in Hometown Story, a town simulation game for the 3DS designed by Harvest Moon series creator Yasuhiro Wada and scored by Nobuo Uematsu. If braving the hells of retail as a bright-faced youth seems overwhelming, know that you'll have a magical sprite named Pochica to spout advice at you as you manage your storefront.
Managing the shop will gradually introduce you to the town's inhabitants, leaving you to decide whether you'd like to help them out of their crises. Gathering items from villagers or the outskirts of town will help your shop grow, granting players a bigger inventory and more foot traffic.
If you're considering taking on another life aside from your Pokedex conquestor your stint as mayor, Hometown Story is on display in actual stores this week.

Those bored of staid black will find the selection of charging cradles for the 3DS XL handheld greatly expanded come Halloween, though none of these new colors will be available to you if you aren't a Club Nintendo member.
Like the original, black cradle, this new line of more colorful cradles makes charging the 3DS XL slightly more convenient. Instead of having to plug a small cord into your handheld, the cradle allows players to charge their device by simply dropping the machine in place. The only new addition found in these new cradles is their appearance; new models are available in blue, yellow, red, green and white.
Those of you who are already Club Nintendo members will be able to order the newly-colorful cradles for 500 points once they go on sale on October 31. If you aren't a Club Nintendo member, the process of signing up is quick and fairly painless, but keep in mind that those points are based on how many games you have purchased and redeemed through Club Nintendo. If you're only signing up to grab a new cradle, you'll need to buy at least six games to earn the necessary points.

[Travis] wanted us to take a look at his N64 portable to see if it could be featured on Hackaday. . Everything on this portable N64, down to the buttons, is milled from aluminum. It’s an amazing build that raises the bar of what a portabalized game system can be.
Inside this anodized enclosure is the circuit board from an original N64. To cut down on the size, [Travis] milled a new heat sink for the CPU and GPU. All the games – quite possibly all the games ever released for the N64 – are stored on an SD card and accessed through an EverDrive 64. Two 5000 mAh Lipo batteries provide three hours of play time on a beautiful high-res screen.
What’s even more amazing is that [Travis] machined all the parts on an exceedingly small, manual mini-mill. Truly a portabalized console for the ages.

I know. You've heard it all before. But, in the words of an infamous fairy, listen.Success and greatness are different things, yet people often blur the two. While 99 per cent of commercial entities are here today, forgotten tomorrow, true creatives leave an indelible mark on public consciousness and an inheritance for their protégé.
Shigeru Miyamoto is recognised for some of video gaming's most enduring and pioneering properties, a legacy to which the industry will always be in debt. Yet, while Miyamoto is to Mario what Walt Disney is to Mickey Mouse, the work of the Kyoto born luminary represents more than just a character. His experimental evolution in game design - an arcane paradigm impossible to emulate definitively - is a form of authorship, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a product of its principles.A work of some majesty, it seems Miyamoto and the R&D class of '98 committed to raise the bar beyond all feasibility, or die trying. Using a Link to the Past and Link's Awakening as a blueprint, Ocarina aggrandizes the series inimitable and elegant formula with beautiful three-dimensional brushstrokes.Distinctive amongst role-playing games and action RPGs alike, Zelda's challenge is weighted in mental engagement rather than combat. A note-perfect symphony of discovery and progression, the player is manipulated into seeing the game not as a linear path, but one of multiple variables. Miyamoto's obscuring of underlying complexities is a particular kind of sorcery, massaging vital elements into an unseen causal timeline. This dexterous finessing cues the player to determine a solution or prompt a development of their own intuition.Although there are instances where Navi, Link's fairy, and other Hyrulean dwellers attempt to steer you in the right direction, it's always with enough ambiguity to ensure the payoff is yours alone. You may be constantly championed for finding a map, exchanging a mask, collecting a token, and of course, opening a chest - but it's the steady market of application and deduction that proves most seductive. In a genre bogged down with picture book storytelling and Barbie and Ken character building mechanics, an emphasis on thinking appears more innovative than ever. Unlike Zelda's past, Ocarina doesn't baby step, but strides, rapidly blooming into a detailed universe where every dusty corner and buried crevice seems to hold some untapped significance. Shopping, fishing, cross-country racing, and the desecration of tombs and tunnels are but a handful of Hyrule's leisure activities. As the landscape unfurls, you leave the forest and travel across Hyrule Field to the castle, Kakariko Village and the Goron lair, and then to Zora's hidden underwater domain and the belly of the beast.Just as you find your feet, the rug is pulled out, leaving Link with a whole lot of growing up to do. Such twists have been done before, of course, but rarely with such resonance. On the Famicom, Super Famicom and Game Boy, Zelda captured us with the power of its composition and peerless execution, but Ocarina lives and breathes, and not by accident.Ocarina of Time's title screen remains one of the most evocative in the medium's history.
Hyrule is a snow globe of pockets requiring your attendance at their far-flung reaches, a broad ecosystem encompassing woodland elfin Kokiri, rock eating mountain Gorons, and capitalistic humans bartering every trinket they can lay their hands on. It's a world with an exclusive fantasy certificate, combining Celtic, Tibetan, Medieval, Egyptian, and Greek mythology for its armoury, temples and monstrous dungeon keepers. It's also unmistakably Japanese, typified by the exotic mystery and chronic lunacy of its inhabitants, the Great Fairy's eminence juxtaposed with her suggestive behaviour, and a ubiquitous threat of adult themes. Skull Kid, prior to his delusions of grandeur, expresses the beginnings of his mask fascination in the Lost Woods; Malon, a young farmer's daughter, rears gaming's most famous steed; and pivotally, princess Zelda recounts the history of Hyrule and its protective Triforce before Ganondorf, king of the desert brigands, threatens the equilibrium of her world. The game's robust aesthetic sees the 3DS tipping its hat to the Nintendo 64 toolset nearly 15 years later. Not only does it remain structurally and graphically superb, but the quality of its supplementary features - from obstacle navigation, weapon implementation, and its exacting brand of lock-on combat - remain very much in a league of their own.Strengthened by a rich, surprising realism in-spite of its cartoon definitions, its dark half, a sinister overtone of dread and pathos, paints Hyrule under a canopy of rainy graveyards, masked cadavers, and the damnation of the Shadow Temple; notable for its leaden guillotines and the corpse figurehead embellishing its River Styx ferry. Slipping from the jovial to the horrifying with tacit maturity, one torchlit encounter in a tapestry of skeletal remains resembles a macabre Lovecraft fantasy: the floor sprouting clawed hands that seize Link by the head while a leathery white creature saunters over to cannibalise him.
Temple ransacking is wedged between unique tasks and excursions that emphasise secondary characters and preface new destinations. The stealth mission inside Ganondorf's desert compound - a multi-tiered villa patrolled by a band of female thieves - is a notable example, not least because of its aloof gender war back-story.Koji Kondo's perceptive musical score underpins every subtle atmospheric shift, effortlessly capturing the eerie, the unknown, the deliciously black and the touchingly heartfelt. He's as guilty as anyone for Ocarina's timelessness, cementing each swell of the heart and accompanying skipped beat with an auxiliary power that transforms it into an old curiosity shop of a game; a dark slice of the weird and wonderful, the comic, the occult, the fearsome and the eccentric. An appropriate musical theme is the Ocarina itself, instrumental as a tool to shift space and time, call on friends, warp to remote destinations, and transport Link into a future where the kingdom has suffered a grave misfortune. While the interim periods are as nuanced and detailed as the main course - an enchanting harmony of puzzles and interconnecting particulars - there are few equals when it comes to the neurological euphoria of a dungeon. The incomprehension when a temple greets you with multiple doorways, passages, ladders, and booming, cavernous hollows, is oppressive; but deciphering the angles and chipping away at its overall form is a matter of unparalleled design wizardry. Stoking the intellect and rewarding intrepid thinking, challenges sit within challenges, an assembly of blocks and timers, a patter of arrows and a hookshot rattle.

Earlier this week, Nintendo confirmed that it was ceasing production of the Wii. You probably don't need reminding of its successes, just as Nintendo likely doesn't need reminding of the shadow it has been operating under with its successor. The Wii U, according to every sales report since its release late last year, has been a disappointment and, if you've an inkling for melodrama, something of a disaster. The common consensus is that Nintendo blew its 12-month head start.Yet in spite of weak messaging and third-party support that has already been dramatically reduced, something amazing is happening: heading into the first Christmas where it will be toe to toe with the Xbox One and PS4, the Wii U isn't just sizing up to the opposition - it's fast becoming, I reckon, the best next-gen proposition over the coming months. Maybe Nintendo didn't blow its lead after all - maybe it's been using the time wisely. It's not exactly a turnaround, but rather a small congress of circumstances. Firstly - and most importantly - there's the software. The removal of Watch Dogs from the Xbox One and PS4's launch line-ups revealed one of the underlying problems with the new round of next-gen launches: that mantra of games, games, games rings hollower by the day when there's only a handful of titles worth playing, and not much at all to get really excited about even within that.Best times.
The Wii U's slate may be slim for Q4, but it's got what's sure to be the jewel of the festive season: a new Mario, and a new Tokyo EAD one at that. Some of the concerns about a certain conservatism creeping in to the Galaxy studio's return to the series with Super Mario 3D World has been washed out in the glorious technicolour wave of each new trailer, and in that vibrant, inventive spin on the Mushroom Kingdom there's a bigger kicker, too. There's colour in Super Mario 3D World, and a little of the vibrancy and verve that's sorely missing in so much of a noisy but drab line-up for Microsoft and Sony's consoles. Would you rather wake up to a morning with Killzone, Ryse or Mario? I'd like to think that much is a no-brainer, and if do you like your Christmas soundtracked by throaty violence, let's not forget that the slim third-party support the Wii U has is at least impactful: Assassin's Creed 4 and Call of Duty, two of the seasonal kings, are coming to Nintendo's console, and the former at least looks like a very handsome port. But back to that colour, because the Wii U's really not lacking in it - it's been a quiet first year, but in that time the console's racked up a rainbow of exclusives. There are the greens of Pikmin 3's model village gardens, the comic book reds and yellows of the hyperactive Wonderful 101 and those beautiful, endless blues of Wind Waker HD. Cast a little further back and there's the colourful theme park of Nintendo Land and the parched deserts of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - and even the greys and browns of the brilliant ZombiU are distinctive in that game's own odd little way.Inject a little Tokyo EAD magic into that back catalogue and it's hard to deny that the Wii U's line-up eclipses those of the Xbox One and PS4 - and so it should after its lengthy headstart. Is it enough to turn the tide, though? That's a harder ask, but there are at least signs that Nintendo's beginning to push the console in the right direction. The late Hiroshi Yamauchi sowed the seeds for both the DS and the Wii before his departure from the company, and it's telling that the machines made in his absence lacked that Nintendo spark of innovation that's at once thrilling and, more importantly, saleable. The 3DS's strange parlour trick had an instant appeal, but it's one that was only ever half-heartedly explored and, of course, dialled back completely for this year's biggest handheld release and the subsequent hardware redesign.

Double Action Blaster Guys by NovaSquirrel is a single player action game but also allows two simultaneous players. DABG for the Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom is a sequel to “Forehead Block Guy“.
Since the first revision there’s been several bugfixes and changes:
•“Extra stuff” menu on the title screen was removed and the level editor and credits were just moved to the main menu instead
•If the pre-level screen with the objective is skipped with Start, the game no longer starts the level with the game paused and will wait for you to let go of Start
•Credits screen now has website URLs on it
•All unofficial/illegal opcodes are replaced with official ones for better compatibility with emulators that don’t support them
•Fixed a bug where testing a level in the level editor after beating the game would just bring you back to the title
•Fixed a bug where enemies can’t climb over blocks from the right

Nintendo's unannounced 3D Pokémon game has been revealed as a detective adventure which stars Pikachu as your sidekick. The as-yet untitled release is being designed for 3DS but may not see light of day until 2015, a report on Japanese TV revealed today (thanks, Serebii).Previously-shown images suggested that Pikachu could creepily copy your facial expressions, but these were actually a demonstration of the mo-cap technology used in the game's development that will allow the character to speak.A special-coloured blue Pikachu will also feature in the game, possibly as its antagonist.Nintendo has yet to officially unveil the game, which has only come to light due to a Japanese TV special on Pokémon Company boss Tsunekaz Ishihar. The report showed new screenshots that demonstrated the game's first-person viewpoint, where a player holding a magnifying glass is able to identify clues in a 3D environment.

Cartoon Network's Young Justice won't be leaving a Legacy on Wii U or Wii, after developer Little Orbit and publisher Warner Bros. opted to cancel the spin-off for the two Nintendo consoles. According to a statement on the game'sFacebook page, the decision was made because of "several factors," including quality issues and low interest from retailers.
The cancellation comes in the month before Young Justice: Legacy is due, but the action-RPG remains set for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and 3DS. The game will star the show's league of precocious heroes, chronicling the events between the first and second series.

3DS game saves have long been dumped and had their initial decryption layer fiddled with but owing to an inability to inject content back in the have been few attempts to take it much further than that.
Pokemon uses a slightly different save type (This is one of the major issues currently plaguing Gateway 3DS users who wish to play Pokemon X and Y), but some are saying it might have been an online functionality derived hack. In some ways that would make more sense but the authors of the information are not commenting on the methods used at this point.
Either way, as with normal saves, at this point in time people can not modify Pokemon and reinsert them. However, the format the Pokemon take has been reverse engineered to some extent. Initial plans involve decoding the new structure and a checking program is to be made later, which is fitting as the owner of the popular Pokécheck website and a moderator at Project Pokemon are the ones responsible for this initial breakthrough.
Issued Statement on Project Pokemon said: Box pkxs are now 232 bytes, as opposed to 136 previously.
Pkxs store the current owner + the original OT for a given pokemon.
The encryption on the pkx files works slightly differently.
Hatched eggs save the moves they hatched with separately for the move relearner

PypeBros proposes a new demo Bilu who walks to school in this " Bilu: School Zone . " On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Bilu, PypeBros offers a version for the occasion anniversary entitled " Bilu: School Zone Anniversary ", it offers a completely new level!
quote:
There are 20 years Bilu saw his first adventure as outlined pencils my brother after the CPC programs Pierrick. I did my best then to transform "paper ideas" of my elders in lines of code and pixels, but the School Zone had kept me in check: the level of complexity that exceeded my tools could support, leading gradually putting in the attic of the project. Today I take my revenge with this homebrew Nintendo DS that takes you through the last level drawn by my brother with monsters Pierrick. More bonus you pick up, the more takes you back in time ... A: jump and bounce B: catch and throw to run to the right, first press the cross to the left and slide the thumb to the right. To run to the left, do the opposite. The "barrier pencil" can be crossed if Bilu tomb high enough.

The Legend of Zelda series has always been associated with the color gold. From the original gold-colored cartridge for The Legend of Zelda on NES to the box art of the recently released The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for Wii U, when fans think of "Zelda," they think of gold. With the launch of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on Nov. 22, the tradition of gold continues. On the same day, a new Nintendo 3DS XL bundle will launch that includes Nintendo 3DS XL hardware with gorgeous gold-and-black coloring and the iconic Triforce on the exterior, as well as a download code for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. The legendary system is gold on one side and black on the other, beautifully representing the two parallel worlds Link travels between in the game. The special bundle was announced in a video starring The Legend of Zelda franchise producer Eiji Aonuma, and will be available at a suggested retail price of $219.99.
"This beautifully designed Nintendo 3DS XL system continues a tradition that has delighted our fans for decades," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "It's a special bundle for a very special video game."
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is set in the same world as fan-favorite The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Super NES and takes place in the same Hyrule after many years have passed. In this new game, Link must journey between two worlds, Hyrule and Lorule, using a mysterious power that lets him become a drawing on walls. Link's ability to merge with walls allows players to solve puzzles and explore dungeons in a new way. Players are also able to buy or rent various items throughout the game, allowing them to explore dungeons in any order they want, adding a new level of freedom to the game play.

Lifetime sales for console sit at 3.91m nearly a year after launch
Nintendo sold just 460,000 Wii U consoles during the six months ending September 30th.
Lifetime sales for the console, released in November 2012 , now stand at 3.91m.
Softeware sales for the past six months, backed by the release of Pikmin 3, reached 6.3 million.
Nintendo admitted the Wii U was still having a "negative impact" on the company's profits. The firm noted that price cuts in the US and Europe in particular hurt revenues.
Wii software sales more than doubled that of the Wii U at 14.9 million, while hardware for Wii were slightly better than the Wii U, with 470,000 sold.
The console outfit was positive about 3DS sales, reaching 3.89m in hardware sales and 27.38m from software.
Overall, net sales for Nintendo were down slightly year-on-year to £1.2bn.
Net income improved significantly from the same period last year however at £3.8m, compared to the £177m loss reported in the six months ending September 30th 2012.

You’ve seen it all before, of course. From the second Link is jolted from his slumber with an insistent ‘Hey!’, A Link Between Worlds is an exercise in fan service, delivered with relish. Its first hour is a steady, indulgent flow of references to, and tropes from, adventures past. The map is a tighter, more economical version of A Link To The Past’s, its enemies and furniture near-identical; props and characters pinched from Ocarina, Link’s Awakening and Majora’s Mask are jammed into one dense, self-referential jumble. And the setup is always the same, of course – there’s a damsel in distress, a flame-haired antagonist, magical trinkets to seek out and legendary sages to rescue. The first dungeon introduces the same old light-the-torch, hit-the-switch puzzles and leads out into a boss battle that feels like a top-down tribute to one of Ocarina’s more memorable encounters. If it continues to rely so heavily on its illustrious past, A Link Between Worlds will be a divisive game. Like those two other component parts of Nintendo’s own triforce, Mario and Pokémon, new Zelda games must always balance expected facets of play with the new; remixing and referencing bygone games is expected – maybe even demanded by longterm fans – but that can’t carry a new game in its entirety.Even Ravio, chief among this game’s supporting cast, is dressed up as the purple rabbit Link transforms into during A Link To The Past, but at least his function is one of this game’s newer parts. Where traditionally items are earned at the end of each dungeon, Link can rent most of the expected set of tools – bow, hammer, boomerang, hookshot and so on – from Ravio and his oddball flying familiar right from the game’s opening hour or so. Dungeons can, therefore, be tackled in different orders. It’s a new quirk which removes the rigidity of games past, but hardly feels revolutionary.

Famitsu report dominated by Nintendo software, New Super Mario Bros. DS most popular game of all
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
Nintendo products account for eight of the ten best-selling games in Japan since the turn of the century.
To commemorate its 1300th issue, the Japanese magazine Famitsu has published a document of Japanese software sales on console and handheld since January, 2001. Somewhat predictably, Nintendo has dominated the market, selling a combined total of almost 133 million units - including Pokemon titles - in that period.
Square Enix came in a distant second, with around 30 million units sold.
Nintendo's most popular games - and therefore the most popular game of all - was New Super Mario Bros. on the DS, which sold 6.4 million copies in Japan. Indeed, Nintendo accounted for the remainder of the top five: Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Black and White, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, and Animal Crossing: Wild World in fifth.
Positions six to ten were, in order, Brain Age, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dragon Quest IX and Mario Kart DS.
The DS was the leading platform, with 32.9 million sold - 39 of the top 100 games were for the DS - followed by Sony's PSP, with 20 million units sold.

Pachter says Nintendo forecasts are too optimistic, says Wii U "is the wrong product for consumers"
[h=3]Nintendo[/h]nintendo-europe.com
It's been a year since Nintendo stopped making Wii games, but the system and its software continue to sell. In fact, Wii hardware and software are selling better than Wii U consoles and games through the first half of Nintendo's fiscal year.
In Nintendo's first-half earnings report (the six months ended September 30), the company today revealed that it sold 470,000 Wii systems worldwide since April, compared to 460,000 Wii U systems. The disparity on software sales was considerably greater, with 14.90 million Wii games sold worldwide for the period. With a much smaller installed base (3.91 million compared to the Wii's 100.3 million), the Wii U managed to sell 6.3 million games in the half-year.
In a note to investors today, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter pointed to Wii U's struggles as one reason not to buy into Nintendo management's sales projections for the back half of the year. While Pachter acknowledged the second half has a more compelling lineup of Wii U games and potential system sellers, he was skeptical that they would be enough to achieve the 8.54 million Wii U sales (more than twice its existing installed base) Nintendo had projected. Those numbers are simply unattainable without another price cut for the system, Pachter said.
"We think that Nintendo has a very low probability of meeting its Wii U forecasts, as it expects the installed base to more than triple by year-end, with very bullish software guidance layered on top. We think the Wii U is the wrong product for consumers, and although we believe that Nintendo faithful will buy the console if it is the only way they can play beloved Nintendo software titles, we think that there are fewer of these faithful than management is counting on to hit its full-year guidance."

The Wii U version of Wii Sports will be delivered to all Wii U consoles automatically, Nintendo has announced, if you've agreed to receive content via SpotPass. You'll also need to have 1.3GB of hard drive space available on your Wii U or on a connected hard drive.Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the details in a new Iwata Asks interview, where it was also confirmed that Namco Bandai had been drafted in to polish the games up and add in online play.Wii Sports Club is set to launch in Europe on 7th November with Tennis and Bowling. Other sports will then be added as they roll off the production line. After your initial 24 hour period of free play ends, you can then buy a Day Pass from the eShop for £1.79 to play all the available sports for a 24-hour period. Or you can buy permanent access to individual sports for £8.99 each. There will be further 24 hour free trial periods when each future game is released (Golf, Boxing, Baseball)."And lastly, I have a request to make of our readers," Iwata added. "Please be sure to use the Wii Remote jacket and strap," he advised, a nod to 2006's spate of broken TVs.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is coming to Europe in 2014, thanks to another partnership between Atlus and NIS America. The latter will bring the game to Euro retail shelves and eShops, while a two-dungeon demo is also confirmed to be on its way.
Atlus' 3DS RPG, which hit North America this year, is a re-imagination of the first Etrian Odyssey, balancing the series' defining penchant for cartography with a new auto-mapping feature. It features other major additions like a Story mode, with voice acting and animated cutscenes, and a new Grimoire Stone system to customize and modify characters' classes.
While it was perhaps slightly overshadowed by the arrival of Etrian Odyssey 4, our four-star review deemed Untold the best entry point in the series, thanks to its variety of "tedium-reducing improvements."

But Resident Evil, Phoenix Wright and Lost Planet fall below publisher’s expectations in its year of need
Japanese publisher and entertainment company Capcom has had its second financial quarter rescued by strong sales of Monster Hunter 4.
The hack-and-slash RPG was released in the publisher’s home country on September 14th, and has since sold three million copies on 3DS.
That, however, was about as much good news as there was for Capcom this period.
In its financial statement, the firm said console and PC versions of Resident Evil Revelations and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies on 3DS only “achieved projected sales”, with no figures included.
Meanwhile, Lost Planet 3, which was stunned by critics, did not met its expectations.
In the last quarter, Capcom’s profits dipped due to its scant release schedule. With little growth, the publisher has gradually been restructuring andbringing more projects in-house to be completed by its internal staff.
On the mobile front, Smurf's Village has continued to generate income for the publisher. But this title remains Capcom’s only significant mobile success, and it admitted that its wider “mobile contents did not achieve expected level of sales”.
Capcom’s digital content business, which covers console, PC and mobile games, managed a sales increase of £238.4 million (37,510 million yen), up 7.2 per cent from the same term last year. But, the division’s operating profit actually fell seven per cent to £34.3 milion (5.4 billion yen).
For the six month period ended September 30, 2013 Capcom’s total net sales came to £338.4 million (53,234 million yen), up 16.9 per cent from the same term last year.
Earlier this month, Capcom confirmed to our sister publication MCV that that as much as half of its European staff could lose their jobs as a result of urgent “restructuring”.
