AlexB123 did a review of Nintendogs a while ago heres more info:
Put a puppy inside your Nintendo DS! In this game choose from Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Boxer, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier or Shetland Sheepdog. Described as a "puppy simulator", this innovative new title gives you a small amount of money to purchase your own puppy...and from there, the sky's the limit! Using the Nintendo DS's built-in microphone, you can name your dog, and then teach him tricks! Nintendogs also makes heavy use of the DS Touch Screen. Use the stylus to pet your dog, rub him on the belly, or touch his nose! But be careful: different dog breeds have different personalities, and not all like to be treated the same way.
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?pro...6&lsaid=219793
Heres an excerpt from the review:
At the beginning you get to pick from a few dogs. There are 5 on the cart. After you do that, you choose if you want a boy or a girl. Yet again after that you get to pick how it looks. (Limited choices.)
Once you get that out of the way you can begin "playing" with your dog by petting it and things like that. Soon a little bulb popped up and I was told to name him. I named the guy "Spud". It took the DS quite a few times to recognize my voice. Let me give you a hint. DO NOT have the TV on while playing this as it will throw the voice rec out of whack.

Tosh-ds has updated his Choplifter game for the Nintendo DS:
Got the collision detection pretty much down now. Atleast when it comes to the soldiers, and basic chopper movement. Might have to work a bit more on collision response though.
Added basic logic to the soldiers, so they'll both find the chopper, and bases. And get out of the chopper when it lands on a platform near a base. Check out the new demo!

I recently read that the SuperPassKey only works with DSs that have a serial number that starts with numbers <= 12. My serial is "NU41089*** [2]" does that mean it starts with a 4 or a 41? If SuperPassKey doesn't work with my DS, what will?

I was considering buying a SuperPassKey and flash cart adapter for my system, but on some FAQs it states that PassKeys are incompatible with DS's with serial numbers starting with a number higher than 12. Is this the case with all passkey type setups (like the Magic Key series) due to a strictly hardware-based incompatibility issue, or are there software and firmware upgrades that deal with this?
Any help would be appreciated.

While we in Europe wait patiently for our pink and blue DS release, timed to coincide with Nintendogs' debut here on October 7, news of another Nintendo handheld bundle is filtering in over yonder US way.
It seems our lucky American comrades are set to see a fancy red DS plop down in stores as part of a bundle deal featuring the upcoming Mario Kart DS on November 14. It's the same version of the handheld that shot out of Nintendo's palpitating manufacturing womb at the launch of Jump Superstars in Japan earlier this year and the Mario Kart bundle is due to retail at 149.99 USD.
There's no word on whether we'll be seeing the red DS in bundle form or otherwise over here, but given that most US DS announcements of late have wriggled their way to Europe pretty swiftly - that price slash and Nintendogs bundle, for instance - it wouldn't surprise us to see a similar deal in our stores eventually.

News from Lik Sang
Set just a year after the events of Aria of Sorrow on Gameboy Advance, where a cult decided to resurrect the fallen Dracula and the evil that follows, the legendary Castlevania series continues, this time showing the incredible sprite pushing 2D power of the NDS. As either Soma Cruz or later Julius Belmont or Yoko, each with their own individual gameplay styles, you must infiltrate enemy territory and stop the evil of Dracula's resurrection from happening. The upper screen displays a map and character data, while the lower view is where the full on action you can see in the trailer below goes. The touch screen also comes into play with a new ability where gamers can "shatter" weak bricks with their finger or stylus, or learn and draw magical seals to defeat enemy creatures.
Further making use of the NDS, there's two different wireless modes, the first of which lets you trade soul abilities between systems. The second is a multiplayer versus mode, where one gamer builds a level by filling areas of the castle with their enemies of choice, and then race each other through it. With multiple endings, both good and bad, and gameplay additions like Weapon Synthesis mode, where Yoko will combine your weapon with a soul to create new items, get ready to sink your teeth into another Castlevania classic, due in stock this week.

Source - Gamespot
Last week, Piper Jaffray analysts Anthony Gikas and Stephanie Wissinck released a report with some surprising forecasts for the gaming industry, not the least of which included a prediction that the Revolution's sales wouldn't live up to its name and the expectation of a new hard-drive-equipped model of the PSP to hit shelves next year.
Today, GameSpot caught up with Gikas for a bit of explanation on his analysis, starting with the forecast that the Revolution would have no significant impact (positive or negative) on Nintendo's place in the console market through 2008.
"As a starting point, that's essentially what we're looking at," Gikas said. "Nintendo will have the same 15 percent plus or minus market share."
As shocking as the Revolution controller might have been for many gamers, Gikas didn't think it would substantially affect Nintendo's fate in its first couple of years of release. "I don't think that the controller's a big enough deal that it's changing [Nintendo's] place in the market," Gikas said.
As for the hard-drive-equipped PSP, Gikas considers it a natural choice for Sony for a couple of reasons. "If it really is going to be a multidimensional entertainment device," Gikas said, "it's going to need a hard drive so you can store greater amounts of data in it."
Beyond fulfilling the company's vision for the handheld gaming gadget, a hard-drive-equipped PSP would also let Sony reprice the hardware (possibly selling the base PSP for $199 and the new model for the original price point of $250) and stem the losses that come from regular price cuts on gaming platforms. It's a tactic Gikas said he expects to see from more console makers in the future.
"They're not making much money on these hardware devices to begin with, and to the extent that [systems] go historically from $300 to $200 to $150 to $99 to $79, you're just losing more and more money as the cycle progresses," Gikas said. "I think you're going to see smaller upgrades to these hardware devices as we move into this next cycle, and that will give the hardware guys an opportunity to reprice and keep those price points higher."
While multiple hardware configurations and upgrades have failed in the past (from the Sega 32X to the PlayStation 2 hard drive), the trend of regular hardware upgrades doesn't necessarily mean developers and publishers have to worry about which particular system configurations their customers might be using.
"There are things you can do to the box along the way that don't disrupt the development process for the publishers," Gikas said. "I'm not talking about a change to the underlying technology of the box itself. There are ways to upgrade that box that really don't interfere with anything the publishers are doing."
For instance, if Microsoft were to unveil an Xbox 360 model in the future with a larger hard drive or a high-definition DVD drive, publishers wouldn't have to worry about whether gamers had a 20-gig or a 50-gig hard drive. And as for upgrades that would impact the core functionality of a system, Gikas says there's just no call for them in the first years of a system's life span.
"For this first round of games on the Xbox 360, the publishers are only going to be utilizing half of the technology of that box," Gikas said. "It takes a couple generations of these products for the publishers to really ramp up to utilize the full potential of the technology of these systems."
Finally, Gikas expounded a bit on the growth of nontraditional software markets composed of in-game advertising, direct console downloads, and mobile gaming.
"We do project that [combined] market at about $900 million in 2007, so when you add that on top of the almost 9 billion in software from console, handheld, and PC, it's a big chunk. All of a sudden it's 10 percent of the industry in 2007."
That would make those nontraditional markets bigger than PC gaming by 2007. But while Gikas fully expects that sector to experience significant growth, the markets are so new and so small as yet that he expects that individual projections for all three of them will change dramatically in coming years.
"The point is there are real dollars there, they're coming, and they're coming over the next few years," Gikas said.

You’ve been hearing about it for weeks… well it’s finally here! To celebrate the UK arrival of Nintendogs, the hugely anticipated virtual puppy phenomenon - HMV’s famous mascot Nipper the Jack Russell will be throwing the doors open for the very first time to shoppers AND their dogs! Taking place at HMV’s flagship store - at 150 Oxford Street on Friday 7th October, 8am - the launch of Nintendogs signals the end of a very long wait for shoppers pining for ‘the next big thing for Christmas’.
On sale across the UK from Friday, gamers, dog lovers and kids alike will be able to get hold of a copy of Nintendogs before anyone else in the country. In addition, the first 50 people (or dogs!) reaching the till will get another free Nintendog from a choice of three breeds plus an exclusive doggy bag including free Nintendogs treats and another free Nintendo DS game!
The Nintendogs arrival at HMV is the stores’ first ever early morning launch and the first time dogs have been allowed in store - breaking the tradition of midnight store openings to open its doors to pooches across the capital taking their breakfast time walk.
Tim Ellis, HMV Head of Games, commented: "There's been a real buzz around this release for some time now and many of our stores have been inundated with customer enquiries. It has wide player appeal, which will make it a perfect gift item and a big seller for us all the way through to Christmas.
"HMV feels a natural affinity towards this title given that our own company mascot is Nipper the dog. Call us 'barking mad', but we're really excited about hosting the official Nintendogs UK launch at our Oxford Street Games Department on October 7th, when Nipper will be joined in-store by lots of his canine friends."

Nintendo has unveiled the new Wi-Fi USB connector that will allow DS owners to take their handheld online if they don't already have a wireless Internet connection.
The USB connector will go on sale in Europe on November 25 - the same date as online enabled title Mario Kart DS - priced £30.
Once it's inserted into a USB port on a PC, a window is opened to establish a link between the DS, computer and Internet. The user must then complete a three-step on the DS to get connected. The connector will not work with Macs as Nintendo is only supporting Windows at present.
As previously announced, DS owners will be able to construct a Friends list but no usernames or passwords will be used. Instead, gamers will be able to swap 12 digit "Friend Codes" to add each other to their lists. There will also be an option to play with a random opponent selected by the Nintendo servers according to skill level to ensure an evenly matched game.
The USB connector was unveiled at the DS Conference 2005 in Japan, where three new titles for the handheld were also announced.
Eigo Zuke teaches Japanese speakers how to write and speak English using the DS's touch screen and microphone. Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training is the sequel to the chart topping Brain Training, and will be in the shops by Christmas. Daredemo Asobi Taikai is a collection of more than 40 popular board games, with game sharing and wireless support for up to eight players. So far all three games are down for a Japanese release only.

Final Fantasy III is being remade in 3D for the DS in 2006. FF V and VI will arrive on the GBA next year as well, following the GBA release of FF IV on December 12 of this year.
This will result in all pre-PlayStation Final Fantasy titles being made available on a Nintendo portable by the end of 2006.

It was odd to think that there was a time when Nintendo didn't rule the portable world. When the original giant grey Tetris machine came out, we all bought one and fell in love. Sure it was pea green and it blurred to hell and back when a game scrolled, but it was ours. We couldn't get the Tetris tune out of our head. We bought every Mario game that came out for it. Pretenders came and went—the Game Gear, the TurboGrafx. They had color, they had nice screens, and they didn't last.
Then the updates began. First the Game Boy Pocket. Then the color, then the Game Boy Advance. Then came the Game Boy SP, and the brighter screen. I remember buying them all when they came out, and each one was slightly better than the last. Maybe not enough for an upgrade for most people, but at least Nintendo never rested on its laurels. They kept making the systems better and better, until the original grayscale blurry system was all but unrecognizable.
Now they face a challenge though. Sony's PSP is incredible looking and challenging Nintendo's supremacy in portable gaming. With the iPod, Apple redefined consumer electronic chic. The Game Boy was a ton of things, but it was never sexy. With the Game Boy Micro Nintendo wants to give us what Apple gave us. They wanted to sex up the Game Boy line.
Beauty is only cardboard deep
The new way of thinking is first evident in the packaging. This looks nothing like what we're used to for videogame system packaging. For one, you can see the unit through the plastic. It looks like it was meant to hang in upscale electronics stores, not the back wall of a chain video game store. The packaging is sleek and it grabs the eye. You also clearly see the two face plates you get with the system. The whole thing doesn't feel like a video game product, which is I think a win for Nintendo. They want to get you looking at it even if you've never had your eye caught by a portable video game system before. Yet another box wouldn't do that, and this accomplishes everything they set out to do.
Some nice packaging from Nintendo
When you open it up you see everything the unit comes with. Lately, I've been impressed with what Nintendo includes with its systems, but this is kind of a letdown. You get the unit, two faceplates, the charger, a tool to help you pop out the faceplates, and a small sock to keep it in. Its not exactly a bad spread, but I would have liked to have had a neck strap or at least a wrist strap. The system is designed almost to be worn as much as played, and having to buy that sort of thing separately was a pain in the ass. C'mon Nintendo, give us a necklace.

Long-term Nintendo fans might remember a time when news of the company's big name franchises missing their release date came more frequently than a nymphomaniac sat on the spin cycle. So, in many ways, it's like being back in the good old days, what with Zelda: The Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Hunters and now Mario Kart DS slipping back unexpectedly.
No need to jump off that multi-storey car park roof just yet though - Mario Kart DS is only skulking back in Europe, and it's only going to be two weeks late. It's now due out on November 25 rather than the previously touted November 11.
Although Nintendo's not revealed any particular reason for the delay, we'd hazard a guess that it's probably been set back to allow for some last minute tweaks to the company's European Wi-fi Connection service, which Jim Merrick was adament would be launching at the same time as the game when we interviewed him recently

Kuwanger has released a new version of his unofficial port of Pocketnes the Nes emulator for the GBA (also works with Nintendo Ds and Gamecube Gameboy player):
Okay, here' S has binary release for my fork of partial PocketNES that supports compression of ROMs. Included are linux and Windows binaries for compression/decompression (all command-line). Simple run "nc\nc file.nes file.npc". Yew it says it' S not compressable, you can' T compress it. Otherwise, file.npc will contained the compressed content. Want yew you, you edge rename it back to file.nes and could it under has build program. However, none of the build programs will Be whitebait to properly recognize the ROM (it' S compressed). They should Be whitebait to Be added to drank has compilation. Regardless, you edge uses npc files under Pogoshell by simply adding has line for npc (gold again, simple rename the npc files to nes).
Please notes, state saves from previous versions of PocketNES will not work with this version. There' S No way to C has conversion, sadly. Please carryforward any problems you cuts with it here.

The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed more than thirty new Nintendo DS titles, including quite a few first party ones. You can check out some screens on these new titles (including the aforementioned TINGLE RPG) at Famitsu. Without further delay, here's what titles were featured in the magazine (please note that any release dates are Japanese):
Adult Brain Training 2
Seiken Densetsu DS [Secret of Mana DS]
Rainbow Island DS (Jan 5)
Gyakuten Saiban 4 [Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney] (2006)
Tales DS
Daikoukaijidai DS
Magical Vacation: When the 5 Stars Line Up
ASH (Archaic Sealed Heat - Mistwalker RPG)
Wishroom
Kaitou Wario (Kaitou means 'Mysterious/Phantom Thief')
Custom Robo DS
English Training DS
Tingle RPG
Detect Hacker
Densetsu no Starfi 4 [Legend of Starfi 4]
Puzzloop DS
Mario Basket 3 vs 3 [Mario Basketball]
Crossword
Jigsaw Puzzle
Sudoku
Bomberman Story
SD Gundam game
Stylebook series (Bandai)
Ocha Inu no Heya
San-X Dreamland
Dangerous Jiisan
Nobunaga's Ambition DS
Dracula [New Castlevania Game]
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Tenchu
Vs. Puzzle Papi Inu Vector Wan!!
Titles of Note
Tingle RPG
The top screen shows Tingle holding a bomb with the number "9", while the bottom screen has a gigantic insect crawling around with what appears to be a big red target on it. You can also see a bomb with many little balloons attatched to it near the insect. Perhaps the game will play out similarly to the Tingle Tuner in Wind Waker, where players did not control Tingle directly?
Densetsu no Starfi 4
The fourth game in the Starfi series of games - the previous three were available for Game Boy Advance in Japan. In this game, the top screen shows the action while the touch screen displays a map. Starfi (as you may or may not have guessed) is a starfish.
Mario Basket 3 vs 3
Basketball with a Mario flavour. The top screen shows the action, the touch screen shows a layout of the court. Confirmed characters include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Bowser and Paratroopa. There are also Question Mark boxes scattered on the court, including one with coins spewing out of it. Looks like you have to hit those boxes when you have the basketball. Turtle shells are also displayed on the touch screen, suggesting Mario Kart item mischief as well. Finally, this game is Nintendo Wi-Fi compatible!
Kaitou Wario
Not sure what to make of this platform game. The top screen shows a Metroid-like map, as well as what appear to be power-ups. There's also a clock shown - could this be timed, similar to Metroid? It's definitely Wario, though - that Wario hat shown in the touch screen is enough of a clue!

Mario Kart fans rejoice as the hugely popular racing game comes to the Nintendo DS on 25th November 2005. Mario Kart DS will drive players new and old to distraction as they race their way around a selection of tracks, including all-new extravaganzas and time-honoured classics from previous versions of the games. What's more Mario Kart DS will be the first Nintendo DS title to offer gamers online play allowing you to race anyone, anywhere, anytime for free.
Want to show off your skills? Then get excited as Mario Kart DS features both online and wireless multiplayer modes. By using the Wireless DS Single-Card Download Play feature, up to 8 players can link up with just one game card. Alternatively you can battle it out online with three other players either in the comfort of your own home using your existing Wi-Fi broadband; or in the High Street either at Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Access Points in store or at Nintendo Wi-Fi connection enabled public Wi-Fi hotspots. Never before has it been so easy to pick up a games console and challenge friends from all over the world for free!
Nintendo's unique new Friend Roster enables players to play online with their friends, all you need to do is set up a Friend Code by swapping a number with your friend, they will then be added to your Friend Roster and you can select to play with them online anytime, anywhere. Alternatively you can play with someone of a similar skill level. This is done seamlessly via Nintendo's servers through the use of a skill mapping system to ensure the environment is open to users of all ages and skill levels.
The Nintendo DS's double screens are put to perfect use in Mario Kart DS, moving certain features, such as the map onto the bottom screen, clearing the top solely for the fast paced action. Mario Kart DS also allows players to see what weapons their opponents have, thanks to a small symbol next to their faces on the lower screen. For the first time ever you will know what item to hang onto and what tricks your opponents have up their sleeves.
Following in the Mario Kart tradition, players must pick up items along the track such as power-ups which they can use to boost their own powers, mushrooms for a speed boost, a star to become invulnerable or shells, bombs and bananas to attack their opponents. Players can use these items to knock their opponents off the track and out of their way. These power ups can dramatically change the outcome of a race, so mastering these can give you the vital edge over your opponents.
Mario Kart DS provides excitement and challenges to keep players, both young and old, entertained and in the driving seat. This highly addictive, fun and fast paced racing game launches on the Nintendo DS in the UK on 25th November 2005, at the estimated retail price of around £30. Also launching on the same date is the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector which will enable players who have Broadband at home to join in the Wi-Fi fun. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will be priced at around £30.

News from LikSang
Nintendo held a special DS event in Tokyo yesterday where the new Wi-Fi adapter was unveiled, as well as a bunch of DS games to come out at a later point in time.
The company will launch the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in Japan this autumn with two compatible software titles (Animal Crossing: Wild World on November 23rd and Mario Kart DS on December 8th). The games will be free to play online, although Nintendo said it is up to third-party publishers to follow the same path or go for paid subscriptions schemes. The network allows you to use friends lists when searching for online opponents, and it will also give you the opportunity to play against "rivals" or random players (national or international). The marketing campaign for the service in Japan will be organized around the tagline of “Easy. Safe. Free.”
The games will be playable online using any Wi-Fi hot spot that you can catch with the NDS built-in receiver. Where the USB connector comes in handy is for those times when no Wi-Fi station is nearby: the USB connector plugs in your computer USB port and allows your wired internet connection to be broadcast wirelessly for your Nintendo DS.
Of other interest to DS owners is the ever-expanding list of games in development for the handheld. Though Nintendo showed several games that were previously announced, it did announce some new surprising ones including an exciting Mario Basketball 3 on 3 (not much more information and no release date as of yet).

New Commercial DS Game:
You play as a rather ordinary character who one day falls in love at the first sight of a particularly hot chick. From then on, the character puts all his energy into getting the girl, only to find numerous obstacles in his way. The game was given its name to deliver the sense of how serious the main character's attraction is to the girl -- a good thing, because the entire point of the game is to earn the girl's affection. You use the Nintendo DS's touch panel to interact with the game and make the girl grow fond of you. The basic gist of the game is to touch the girl via the touch screen. In fact, the game doesn't even use the standard D-pad and button controls -- it's all about the touch.

Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection will begin a new era of easy, social gaming. For the first time, characters from the Nintendo universe will be playable online, as part of a unique wireless community, accessible inside or outside the home. Nintendo DSTM games like Mario Kart® DS, Animal Crossing®: Wild World and Metroid® Prime Hunters will require no additional charge for online play. Each is scheduled to launch in the coming months, along with the first third-party title using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Activision's Tony Hawk's American SK8Land, developed by Vicarious Visions.
From home, if the user already has a Wi-Fi network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly to it with minimal setup procedures. Those who have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no wireless network, can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, sold separately, that will plug into a computer USB port to create a wireless access point to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Outside of the home, players will be able to connect in a variety of ways, including at thousands of free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots nationwide. More details about these hotspots and how to connect outside of the home will be announced shortly.
Nintendo DS is just the first Nintendo system to connect via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The same service will be incorporated into Nintendo's next-generation home console, code-named Nintendo Revolution, set for release in 2006.
"Nintendo has taken the online video gaming model and rewritten the definition of community," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "With easy setup and no added service fees, players far and wide will log in and play with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room."
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will create a welcome, inviting atmosphere where video game players of all kinds can log on wirelessly and begin playing. The service will be used in different ways for different games. In Mario Kart DS, four players at a time can race over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Racers can pick opponents from their roster of friends, match up randomly against strangers of comparable skill levels or simply choose to race against anyone in the world. Mario Kart DS launches Nov. 14.
People who hang out in Animal Crossing: Wild World can travel to other players' towns or invite up to three other players to visit their own towns, simply by opening the town gate. The four players then can interact and play together simultaneously in one town. Players must know one another and register to their respective friend rosters before they can connect. Animal Crossing: Wild World is set to launch on Dec. 5.
Activision's Tony Hawk's American Sk8land will let players compete head-to-head in multiplayer games in a variety of modes. Players also can create custom skateboard art and graffiti tags, and share them with other players via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service will track global high scores and stats. Tony Hawk's American SK8Land will launch on Nov. 14.
Games in development include Metroid Prime Hunters, slated to launch in the first quarter of 2006. Players can hook up for play with registered friends, automatch with other players based on a skill-level match or play with anyone; Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection quickly finds the best match with other players online.
The worldwide leader and innovator in the creation of interactive entertainment, Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home and portable video game systems. Each year, hundreds of all-new titles for the best-selling Game Boy® Advance SP, Nintendo DSTM and Nintendo GameCubeTM systems extend Nintendo's vast game library and continue the tradition of delivering a rich, diverse mix of quality video games for players of all ages. Since the release of its first home video game system in 1983, Nintendo has sold more than 2 billion video games and more than 353 million hardware units globally, creating enduring industry icons such as MarioTM and Donkey Kong® and launching popular culture franchise phenomena such as Metroid®, ZeldaTM and Pokémon®. A wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., based in Redmond, Wash., serves as headquarters for Nintendo's operations in the Western Hemisphere.

News From Slip:
I've just released a tool I wrote, in its released version 1.0 it's intended to extract Vertex-, face- and mapping-data from a 3ds file and throw the data into individual binary files, which I use in my projects.
The release is intended as a source release because it is likely people will want to put the data in their own format, which i've tried to make as straight forward as possible. There is the binary version that I use myself.
This tool can be used for more than GCN work.
Check out the Resources at http://www.ice-d.com for the details. Screen shots of models used on the cube can be seen on the main news page. Alternately click on this link to go straight to the tool's page. http://www.ice-d.com/resources/resou...converter.html

Xbox corporate VP J Allard has criticised Nintendo's "freestyle" Revolution controller, claiming that he had a similar idea which was rejected after consultation with gamers and developers.
Speaking to US website Gameinformer, Allard said the controller was "Well intentioned" but argued that he couldn't see it being used to play sports or racing games.
"I don't think most Electronic Arts games are going to be played with that thing, I think they're going to be designed for the classic controller," he added.
"Four years ago I wrote an email treaty and said, 'Why aren't accelerometers in remote controls? Why can't I scroll down my channel guide with a gesture instead of up, up, up, up?"" Allard revealed.
"We did a lot of research with gamers, talked to a lot of game developers and said, 'Should we put an accelerometer in there and do the tilt thing?' And there wasn't that much enthusiasm around it."
Allard did note that the Xbox 360 remote control features A, B, X and Y buttons, and confirmed that "You're going to be able to play casual games on Live Arcade with the remote control."
He also conceded that Nintendo could make good use of the controller in first party games, and that it could prove a hit with gamers as a result. He went on to praise Nintendo for its innovation, suggesting that Microsoft might also consider producing a simplified controller in the future.
"Remote control, that's great," Allard said. "Let's take it one step further and do a simple controller. We've talked about it. I like the idea."
But that doesn't mean Allard is sold on Nintendo's version - "I don't know if I like the implementation because it ain't my remote."
"How am I going to watch a movie on Revolution? Am I going to have a different remote than that or am I going to have to use the four colored buttons?"
Allard's comments suggest he is less keen on the Revolution controller than fellow Xbox VP Peter Moore - speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at the Tokyo Game Show last month, Moore said he wanted to "give kudos" to Nintendo, adding that he could see how the device might bring lapsed gamers back to gaming and attract new consumers.
Allard hit back at critics of Microsoft's decision to offer two versions of the Xbox 360 in a separate interview with Edge Online, claiming that the move will be welcomed by consumers.
"Consumers like choice, and it's a very pro-consumer move on our part," he told the website.
"You buy the Xbox 360 Core system, you can build up to the premium system and you won't be left out of anything along the way. You can pace into this however you want, unlike any of the traditional categories," he said, citing the iPod Shuffle as an example of a piece of technology that can't be upgraded - leaving consumers who want an iPod Photo "screwed."
"There isn't a game on 360 that you can't play without a hard drive, so I think that's a good thing for consumers. We've made a commitment to broadening the audience," Allard stated.
He went to concede that some developers may have been disgruntled to learn that not all Xbox 360 consoles would come with a hard drive as standard, telling Edge Online: " Sometimes doing the right thing means doing the hard thing."
"Are there developers who are disappointed? Yeah, sure... It was a difficult one. I was the biggest fan of the hard drive and its potential, but the problem is that we sold 22 million Xbox consoles and 5 million, maybe 10 million just don't care about it."
But Microsoft picked up the tab for those unused hard drives, Allard pointed out - which raised the question of who should pay this time around.
"We can either ask the gamer to pay for it, pay for it ourselves, or prove that there's enough value in it and have the gamer say 'I want to pay for it'," he said, adding: "I think that's the right model."
"You know, being first you sometimes get some crap, and we've had some crap," Allard concluded.
"But I think it's very pro-consumer and very pro-developer, and I think that in five years everybody will look back and say that this was a very, very good move on our part to launch worldwide and to have the flexibility for consumers to decide on their products."

October 7th, 2005, 21:44 Posted By: wraggster
Nintendo has released its first half sales figures, which showed a 6.9 percent sales drop as the GameCube underperformed estimats, but a weakened Yen and growing DS sales have almost doubled profit estimates.
The drop in sales, from an estimated 190 billion Yen to 175 billion Yen was attributed largely to the poor sales of GameCube hardware and software, as third party developers focus their attention on creating new titles for the next generation consoles (including Nintendo Revolution).
Nintendo's senior marketing director Yoshihiro Mori commented: "The big drop for GameCube games was in North America. It looks like the product's life is nearing its end."
In spite of this, sales of the company's handheld device, Nintendo DS have helped boost profits worldwide. In addition, a weaker exchange rate for the Yen has offset the drop in sales, allowing the company to retain its revenue forecasts and increase estimates for the full fiscal year.
Mori stated: "Offsetting the profit shortfall caused by lower sales, a substantial amount of foreign exchange gain was generated due to the weaker-than-estimated Japanese Yen."
Nintendo claims that a substantial development investment in its forthcoming next generation console, the Revolution, has also damaged margins. The new machine is expected to launch in Japan in the spring of 2006; competing with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PS3 consoles.
While the GameCube may be nearing the end of its life cycle, and poor sales of both hardware and software have lowered sales figures for the company, increasing sales of its DS handheld are helping to offset the shortfall. In addition, Nintendo holds around USD 4.7 billion worth of dollar-denominated deposits, which have clearly helped revenue forecasts and overall profits, due to the fluctuations in the exchange rate for the Yen.

The latest Nintendo Revolution rumor to hit the web is a doozie… “Nintendo may be aiming for a $99 launch price.” Yeah, it’s a dirty rumor, but could it be done? Doing so would put the Revolution in a league of its own, practically excusing it from the next-gen battle—it simply wouldn’t be competing with the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 if it were wearing a $99 price tag.
We’re likely going to see a lot of these rumors popping up in the coming months. Some suggest that rumors like this might be motivated by a desire to discourage prospective Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 buyers. Needless to say, we should take this rumor—and the ones to follow—with a grain of salt.
Update: it’s also important to remember that Nintendo doesn’t sell its consoles at a loss. If a $99 Revolution is a real possibility, we can expect the system to be only a fraction as powerful as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

While Mario's tendency to get shoe-horned into all Nintendo's sports titles has seen the jolly fat one fall from grace, Zelda's a name that still has the power to make fans dribble in sheer uncontrollable anticipation. Now, while Twilight Princess lingers in extended development time, series producer Eiji Aonuma has spilled some new details on the Link's upcoming DS debut.
In an interview with EGM, Aonuma has explained that the dual-screen handheld's Zelda game will be an entirely new experience for fans of the franchise, offering a brand new method of control and enabling gamers to view proceedings from a whole new perspective.
In fact, he said it just like this: "What I can tell you is that it's going to use the touch screen for a very unique control system that people have never experienced in a Zelda game before. I think one of the important elements of the Zelda series has always been that you feel like you're in the world doing the things that Link is doing and touching the things that Link is touching. This time you'll be able to use the touch screen and actually touch those items and objects yourself."
Quite what all that means is anybody's guess at the moment, but we can't quite shake the feeling that we might just be looking at some sort of first-person Zelda trickery, where you'll roam Hyrule looking through Link's eyes and manipulate your surroundings using the stylus. Of course, we might be entirely wrong here, but we've been wondering if this is the direction Aonuma intends to take the series ever since Miyamoto announced that Twilight Princess would be the last outing for Zelda as we know it.
With Nintendo's Revolution video suggesting the new controller can be used as a virtual sword, it wasn't too much of a jump to imagine we'll be seeing this kind of gameplay mechanic crop up in the green-clad elf's next-gen outing. Which would give Nintendo all the more reason to bring both console and handheld version into line.
Of course, all this is rampant speculation at the moment, but then it's Friday afternoon, we're full of pie and our brains are in a twirl. Wanna make something of it?

creepyplaidman has updated his WIP game for the Nintendo DS.
W00t just made a major update, I added a data map to the backgrond. What does that mean? Now the map has passable and nonpassable tiles, so now my game has a bump you can jump around w00t. This map will also allow me to do more in the future, such as determine tiles to be grind poles. The hard part non touch screen part of my game is done, now I can do the easy stuff various new tiles, artwork, and more levels. When I get some sort of hardware to test this game on my ds I will add the main characters weapon and enemies, so until then I think I'll make this a race to the end of the level game. In honor of my engine being basically complete, I've made the background ub3r awesome. I also slowed down the sprite a bit, leave comments if it's too fast, and also if the jump motion looks skippy.

An update on the port of Doom to the Nintendo DS named DoomDS:
Well, its been too long since my last update, but I've been very busy.
Lots of design work has been done over the past few weeks, lots of progress with Doom level editing, but sadly, not alot of progress with the engine.
I've recently decided to learn C++ then move onto OpenGL and then apply what I have learned into DS development. Its going to take a while to get to a decent skill level, but i'm pretty determined and learn fast when i want to. This does not mean I plan to work on the DoomDS engine myself, I am still relying on outside help for that.
I am playing around with the source to some engines already, and its good fun.
There has not been a media update for quite some time, I did post some pictures of the levels over on the dual-soft forums, but other then that I don't plan to release too much. I'd much rather wait until some hardware testing begins and then show some better stuff.
The Chainsaw has just been modeled, lots of map objects such as computer terminals, switches and random equipment have also been modeled. Levels are progressing well too, but there will most likely be changes
once testing begins. Textures are also being pumped out at a nice rate too!
In other news, Stephen Stair is very close to finishing he's work on the DS WiFi code.
He's progress is fantastic and he looks set to claim the bounty, he deserves it.
No doubt we will see a surge in WiFi apps for the DS. Pop over to Stephen's site and check out the progress. http://akkit.org/dswifi/
When not working, modeling, mapping, playing games, or sleeping, I've been designing a very simple game purely for WiFi play. It would also be a great single player game, but I think the multiplayer aspect will be alot of fun. Its seems there is more and more that needs to be learned before the DoomDS engine takes shape, this project may serve as a good stepping stone for it, but we shall see.
I will be sure to keep you posted though, no more delayed updates.
Thanks again to everyone who's emailed me, your kind words and suggestions are much appriciated.
Keep them coming.

Heres the latest:
Well, lwIP appears to be working, from what I've been able to test. I'm presently hung up trying to disable a hardware feature that overrides my setting of the powersave bit. Basicly, until I can change that bit, I can't get data from the access point properly, it's really anoyying. I've been working on trying to unset the bit now for about 2 days now, and have been rather unsuccessful (have tried some 50-100 combinations of things) I will probably take a break from this for a day or 2 (to service another pressing project), but this bit can't take that much more time to figure out.

Cory1492 posted this:
seems GBA SRAM has a couple unreliable bytes at the beginning and end, thanks Tepples for the info in the GBA programming newbie’s guide ;-) and thanks Eric for making me look for it :-) this is now fixed for EToolSMS, and will be fixed for ETool 2.x SAP. The first and last couple bytes being unreliable (NULLing sometimes on power cycle) it will simply update the header on the save so that the APPID no longer has any data in the first couple of bytes, fixing this problem transparently for anyone using EToolSMS, and it should fix it on any damaged (0x00 in first 2 bytes) existing EToolSMS file. Still unsure as to why the previous versions would not boot with G6.

creepyplaidman has updated his WIP game for the Nintendo DS.
Alright, I've now turned my engine into a 3 level game and I've dubbed the release the Zotbot Preview, because I feel the game has reached that 60% Level that neoflash desires, so feel free to judge my zotbot preview. Also added top screen fun to the release, just to make it look more fun

According to logs that were posted on the internet a coder by the name of Darkfader has released a Bricking tool which will kill any Nintendo DS that uses PassMe/FlashMe and any of the following cards Supercard, M3 Adapter and the GBA Media Player.
Basically for now you must hold off trying any new homebrew unless you can guarentee 100% that the person supplying it is safe:
Brakken posted this:
DarkFader, the person who cracked the Nintendo DS, was behind the creation of the NeoFlash, the MAN who ran the Nintendo DS ROM release group GST (Golden Sun Team) has released a small program that will erase your Nintendo DS firmware, GBAMP firmware and/or your SuperCard Firmware and the release appears to be supported and endorsed by the DSDEV (#dsdev on EFNET IRC) community of dev's (who most recieve free NeoFlash devkits). This Bricker does not destroy NeoFlash carts? Could there possibly be any correlation?
The code used in the original bricking application has been ripped and now is being added to other homebrew and roms so if you run one without checking it first you'll end up with a dead Nintendo DS, GBAMP and/or SuperCard. This is a very counter-productive move on the Nintendo DS's Development Community as their code to disrupt piracy (which they helped create) is now being used in their own programs! Currently there is no way to test for this bricking code!
Just image going to run NESDS and having your Nintendo DS die! Luckily, if you use the FlashMe Firmware replacement for the Nintendo DS you can recover from this deadly attack by booting up the system any holding "A+B+START+SELECT" then loading the Firmware from a flashcart other then your SuperCard (as it's most likely been destroyed).
Some Conversation off IRC that was posted:
<DarkFader> yes
<xxxxx> what's all this about a trojan?
<DarkFader> DS program that erases some things
<xxxxx> hmmm... payback for something?
<DarkFader> firmware of supercard, media player, DS
<DarkFader> nah
<DarkFader> for fun of course
<xxxxx> heh, I see
<DarkFader> it also erases the xg/neoflash card and CF inside movie player
<DarkFader> I still need to add support for more devices
<DarkFader> M3, G6, SD cards
<xxxxx> hmmm... for what purpose? laughs?
<DarkFader> it will put ppl on alert
<xxxxx> and leave them with a hell of a lot of broken DS'es
<DarkFader> it can be fixed
<DarkFader> but still very annoying to fix it all
<xxxxx> indeed
<xxxxx> but won't stuff like this kill the homebrew scene?
<xxxxx> no one wants to load anything in fear of frying their DS.. or flash card
<DarkFader> hmm
There you have it folks please do not touch it

First off id like to say that no release on this site will ever brick your DS because i will check everyone that doesnt come from a valid source, the DS scene is great apart from some elitest idiots who think its funny to ruin peoples DS consoles.
Heres a log thats on the net of the time when Darkfader released his bricking app --> http://www.tehskeen.net/files/dsdev.20051007.log (original url)
Read it and youll see that the Developers (a minority it must be said) thought it was funny when one of the users ran the software and nearly bricked his PSP.
I read what other forums and sites posted about the loader and so i went in myself to #dsdev and well the atitude that came across when i asked about the loader was disapointing to say the least, basically they were saying that unless you flash your DS then its tough if anything happens.
My thoughts on the whole situation are that as any homebrew scene you do not shit on the homebrew users and this ill guarentee will be found in a homebrew game before long.
No site or forums or even a chat room should think its funny when a release like this happens but it seems that a certain chat room does, now ill bet that a lot of the developers are horrified that this has been released but from what i seen in there, only a few lamers rule the roost.
So in future can you trust anything released from such sources if they think its funny when your DS dies, it has to be the lamest release of the year and it will hit homebrew users more than any bloody warez users in the long run

BigRedPimp founder of #DSDev speaks out on the Bricker issue, heres the full newspost:
I feel that this should be said considering how people are saying #dsdev supports the bricker…
I, BigRedPimp, am the founder of #dsdev on EFNet. Rumor has been going around that the bricker app (which renders stock Nintendo DS units useless) is supported by the ops of my channel. This is not the case. The fact of the matter is that I am disgusted with certain individuals who not only created it but condone its creation by saying “because I can”. This, to be blunt, is bullshit. You are single-handedly making it hard to trust anyone out there looking for help on their current work. Why someone would create an “app” that would turn a US$120+ portable device into a paperweight is beyond me. I think this individual needs a serious reality check. Just because you can afford a DS whenever you want one doesn’t give you the ****ING RIGHT to destroy the rest of ours. I’ll be expecting some sort of retort for this but I don’t care.
In closing, I reiterate the point that the staff of EFNet #dsdev does NOT condone the use of the bricker in any way, shape or form. Support positive development, not destructive. That is all.
- I say thanks to BigRedPimp for this news, pity that one lamer and a few idiots who think its funny can cause problems for our scene.

Spacy has just posted a new work in progress build of his unofficial VisualBoy Advance. No changes were listed with the files but if you are interested in giving it a go and want to provide Spacy with some feedback that would be cool.
Head on over to his support thread to leave some feedback after giving this work in progress build a go.

The recent Brick inducing PSP/DS Software has claimed many victims, more DS than PSP, heres an article from the respected Kojote of PDRoms
just can't hold myself back but there are a few things which have to be said right now.
Recently the PSP and now the DS are affected by malicious programs, which are able to break your handhelds. The sense of this action is just right beyond my understanding and the understanding of most developers I know. People who are new to homebrew might be tricked to run a program, which will destroy their hard paid off system. Not everyone can afford a new one - and it's not clever to trick new people into running code which is really doing bad things. Many people will get a wrong opinion about homebrew software and this is what i don't want.
The PSP is affected in two ways:
There is a FAKE downgrader which ****s up your bios, the chance of getting it back to work is almost zero
Recently Symantec also figured out the first VIRUS for the PSP. It doesn't spread it self, but it ****s up the bios as well.
The NDS is affected in this way:
The DS bricker will overwrite some regions of the bios and it will be extremly hard to recover anything.
All that stuff might have been developed to show skills, but never forget there are kids who don't understand anything about it and they forward those things to their friends to fool them. More and more system will be bricked - Is this what we need? Things will spread over Bittorrent and E-Mule and reach hundrets of people - hundrets of people who are now in potential danger to brick their system.
Exactly such a behaviour shows companies as Sony that they are right with upgrading their firmware again and again, and finaly eleminate EVERY SINGLE EXPLOIT which is found. If there are no exploits left, you can't run any homebrew. This could be the dead of everything people were supporting for years.
Until further notice:
* NO NEWS ON PDROMS
Homebrew over - at least for the next days.
I hope my words will ring a bell in some people head. A general warning to everyone who is new to homebrew, please only get things for a serious source and avoid warez, as playing commercial games for "free" might be a bigger target. You shouldn't play warez at all anyway.
Thanks for everyone who keeps on destroying the homebrew scene - Thanks for destroying the hard work of many people - Thanks for destroying the effort people used to get everything working.

Another article thanks to Guyfawkes
DarkFader has released a fake DS ROM that claims to be a Hentai viewer or ROM loader but is in actual fact a program that will flash part of your firmware rendering your DS useless. It is apparently possible to fix the DS if you have FlashMe but otherwise you will be left with a brick. UPDATE: To fix if you have FlashMe hold A+B+SELECT+START when switching on the DS, you can then run the original FlashMe updater to restore the DS. There are also reports that it will erase G6, M3, gbamp and SuperCard firmware as well as deleting anything found on the CompactFlash card in the gbamp.
The file was originally released as taihen.zip (.nds size 548,673 bytes) which is an Hentai viewer and then as r0mloader.zip (.nds size 151,361 bytes) which claims to be a ROM loader. At the moment there is no way to be absolutely sure if a ROM is legit so please be VERY careful before trying any new homebrew.

More news on the horrid release, heres what Drunken Coders Posted:
A day or so ago, Darkfader released a certain malicious bit of homebrew under the name r0mloader. This software claimed to allow a person to run commercial roms off of their GBAMP or supper card. What it actually does is corrupt the firmware on your DS as well as on your supper card or GBAMP effectively turning your DS into a brick.
It is suspected that this was done as an act of anti-piracy but it has caused many beginning amateur programmers to shy away from the system. Although I tend to fall heavily on the anti-piracy side of things myself, I do not feel it is the homebrew communities place to take such actions.
Fortunately the first thing most people do when the set up their DS for homebrew is apply Firefly's firmware patch. Unlike Nintendo’s firmware, Firefly's patch has recovery code built in which allows you to restore your firmware if you have a gba flash cart.
If you do not have the firmware patch applied be careful of what you run. If it is already too late it is still possible to recover although it requires a bit of effort.
I am not sure how wide spread this is, feel free to email me if you were affected and I will work on getting a recovery guide posted.

Hi,
I made available the new current snapshot of ReboNDS. You can get sources and binaries on my homepage, as always, at:
http://francois.pessaux.neuf.fr/creations.html
Microphone is still not available but I added sounds (not yet for everything), I fixed numerous bugs, all current maluses are available, and I translated the project from the uggly C++ to regular and holly C ))
By the way, I fixed the wrong section assignment (linker complained about my "attribute"s).
I'll try soon to add a *really functionnal* highscores saving.

Ok, heres the deal. I used wifi to replace my firmware, and I used the NDSPatch to load games onto my 512 x-rom cartridge. Everything is working great. So far I have gotten metroid, castlevania, and a couple other games to play just fine. I have 3 questions though.
1) Warioware Touch won't play. I read it has something to do with "unlocking" it? Can anyone shed some light?
2) More importantly is there a working multiboot program for NDS roms?
3) Is there anyway I can use my x-rom cart for both NDS and GBA roms at the same time? It sucks have 1 NDS rom on there and I cant use the extra space for any GBA roms.
Thanks in advance

Nintendo has blamed the GameCube for a loss in first-half profits, which forced the gaming vet to lower its full-year sales target. Slumping North American sales of the GameCube and its software continue to foreshadow the console’s imminent demise, which may be closer than previously projected. Nintendo’s senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori spoke frankly at a news conference in Osaka, stating, “The big drop for GameCube games was in North America. It looks like the product’s life is nearing its end.” Nintendo had expected to sell 2.8 million GameCube units this fiscal year, but is now prepared to lower that estimate. Looks like a Revolution is exactly what Nintendo needs…

Hey guys,
I have probably the most laughable question to date so set your faces to chuckle. I have been searching for about 24 hours and can not find an answer but please forgive me if it has been asked before.
Background: I have a M3 Perfect and a Passkey. When I try to load up with the Passkey in passkey mode with a cart in the slot my DS greyscreens.
The Stupid Questions 3:
1. Do I need to do a firmware flash for the Passkey to work?
2. If so, what ones won't wreck my DS?
3. After a flash, will I need to still use the Passkey?
4. Can I still use the DS 'as normal' after a flash?
(I never said I could count)
Cheers guys.

I found this site while looking for info on DS homebrew stuff. I'm about to take the plunge and buy some crap, but I'm not sure which crap I need.
On your site, it has the 4 gadgets that I need. Is that it? Everywhere I go to buy the Superpassme, I see these other NDS Flash Cart Kits, that supposed to have everything in it. But they seem different from what your site said I need.
Overall, I'm confused. If someone could shed some light on the difference between the Flash Cart Kits and the SuperPassMe route, I'b ppreciate it.
Thanks!

News From Lik Sang
Release Date / Price Point
While the Xbox 360 and PS3 have unbelievable graphics, and are just bursting at the seams with raw power, if you think about it, the gameplay of titles isn't really much different to that of Xbox and PS2 games. Some people like it like that, but there's a growing number of gamers and non-gamers in search of something fresh. What they search for is the Nintendo Revolution.
No release date other than "2006" has been announced, nor any price points, although Nintendo are aiming for this to be significantly cheaper than their competitors, hoping people will buy the Revolution and a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Nintendo has a long tradition of delaying hardware and releasing last, but then again with the Nintendo DS they beat Sony out the door, so perhaps we'll be surprised.
The Games and Online Functionality
Naturally it's too early to talk much about games, but what we do know is that Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata said how he'd like Mario, Metroid, Zelda and Smash Bros. out on the Revolution as soon as possible. "Personally I am pushing very strongly on Mr. Miyamoto to make Mario one of the launch titles for the Revolution," he said in an interview with G4TV. While these are the same 'old' games we've played on GameCube, and the N64 before that too, remember of course it makes no sense to announce just the names of original titles in development.
While the level of backwards compatibility of PS3 is impressive, and Microsoft is trying, no one beats the big N here. The Revolution will play every single first party Nintendo game, all the way back to the Famicom (NES). There's 221 such games for the NES, SNES, Satellaview (SNES Add-On), N64 and N64: DD. These titles will be stored on 512MB of internal flash memory, which is enough for anywhere between around 50 to over a thousand titles to be stored. Then there's still GameCube to count too, with a library of over 550 games. The Revolution drive accepts your mini GC discs, and hidden under covers on the top of the console are four GameCube controller ports and two memory card slots. These let you use your existing GC controllers, plus the microphone, bongo drums and dance mats.
Games for the previous consoles will be downloadable on Nintendo's "Virtual Console" system, for a yet undecided fee. Despite hopes, the titles will not be free, although Nintendo have said they might run such offers like one free download with a new game purchased. Currently they are talking to third parties to try and get them to publish their past titles for download also. Since it's based on emulation, even titles from former rival Sega may be there. In an interview with Famitsu magazine, Sega's Yuji Naka, head of Sonic Team and Sega's Software R&D said "I hope Sega games will be playable as well." While emulation is nothing new for PC, the chance to play these classics with a real controller, on a TV, how they were meant be played, is nothing short of exciting.
The Controller
The main twist of the Revolution lies in the controller, which was surrounded by so much speculation and rumors across the internet, many wondered if Nintendo could live up to the hype they built. They did though, as while we were all wondering about touch screens and gyroscopes, Nintendo were building a much simpler and original controller. In the rectangle shape of a remote control. Using two small sensors with a range of 10 to 15 feet by your TV, the Revolution will detect your exact position in the room, on all three axes. Even motion sensing arcade machines don't have this sort of technology, but next year you'll have it in the palm of your hands. The controller its self also detects rotation and direction, giving you precise and natural control in every imaginable sense.
On the top corner is an On/Off button, then below that, a d-pad, buttons, then four LED lights to show you which of the four controller "slots" you're using. If you hold it on the side, it's looks like an enhanced NES pad in ceramic white or one of other various colors. On the rear of the controller, there's a large "B" trigger, then the battery compartment. Fixing a common complaint gamers had with Nintendo's previous wireless Wavebird controller too, a rumble feature has been built into this new pad. Meanwhile at the bottom is an expansion slot for peripherals like the "nunchuck controller". This, which won over many of the western developers, is a "pod" giving you an analog-stick to hold in the other hand, with Z1 and Z2 triggers underneath.
Using a modified Metroid Prime 2 engine, this device was shown off as players ran around with the analog-stick while using their other arm to point the main controller where they want to shoot. Since the Dreamcast days, companies have tried putting a d-pad or analog stick on a light gun to give you such freedom, but none even came close to what they aimed for. Now Nintendo have leaped over them and produced a device more natural and precise than a keyboard and mouse!
Even Peter Moore, corporate Vice President of Xbox, said at the Tokyo Game Show "I want to give kudos for Nintendo for its attempt at innovation with the new controller. (It'll) bring people in that, as Iwata-san said, are either lapsed gamers or gamers that are intimidated by the complexity of the controller." To ensure multi-platform and more traditional titles are still playable though, "shells" will be sold, where you just slide the Revolution controller into the shell of a GameCube style pad for example, and feel right at home. Other more original peripheral "shells" may include anything from Maracas for Sega's Samba De Amigo, to a toy model plane for games like Pilotwings.
Technical Specs
What hasn't excited many fans however, is Nintendo's stance on High Definition. While it's nothing new given the companies slow uptake on a CD with the N64, and online gaming with GameCube, the ever growing numbers of those who own a plasma or LCD TV are stunned the Revolution won't support a TV resolution higher than that created back in 1941.
Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affair, addressed this issue saying "Nintendo doesn't plan for the system to be HD compatible as with that comes a higher price for both the consumer and also the developer creating the game. Will it make the game better to play? With the technology being built into the Revolution, we believe the games will look brilliant and play brilliantly. This can all be done without HD." Later he went on to say "Companies focused on outdoing each other for technology's sake are using the power of public relations to confuse the media into thinking high-definition is a live-or-die part of the games of the future. It is a technological fact that games will still look incredibly beautiful and play incredibly well without the high cost of making them HD compatible. HD may be one of the technologies of the future. Is it the gaming industry's only future? We don't think so."
Exact specs for the machine are still a closely guarded secret, but it's been announced that the machine will be two to three times more powerful than the GameCube. This is a far cry from that of Sony and Microsoft's efforts, but that's what will keep the cost down for Nintendo, game developers, and us the consumers. Hoping the Revolution will be the platform of choice for publishers to give new concepts and original ideas a go, and as loyal PS2 developers are even questioning their rising costs, Nintendo may very well be onto something here.
Not missing out on every mod con however, the Revolution will have an online match making system similar to Xbox Live, can be linked to other consoles or the Nintendo DS via Wi-Fi, and with an add-on, it'll play DVD movies. This is likely to be through a dongle, ala Xbox DVD Playback Kit. Wireless wise, both 802.11b and 802.11g will be supported, or if you don't already have a wireless router, a USB port will be included to accept routers or high speed modems with a USB output. Using wireless, NDS owners will be able to download demos, and then transfer them over to their handheld without so much as getting off the couch, a popular goal in this next generation.
Finally, leaving a few surprises up their sleeves, Nintendo of Europe's Jim Merrick admitted they "have not shared everything that there is to know about Revolution or its controller", and finished with "C'mon, we're Nintendo - we like to hold things until the very end!"
While the next gen console war is just beginning, the battle over the next generation of DVD has already been raging on for years. On one side there's Sony and Philips with Blu Ray, then on the other it's Toshiba and NEC with HD-DVD. It used to be easy to decide who to root for, as Blu Ray offered more space for us consumers, while HD-DVD was cheaper to manufacturer for the corporate movie studios. These days however, it's simply impossible to decide as the two sides sling mud at each other on an almost daily basis, and new announcements of higher capacities are usually just successful experiments created in their labs, and who knows how many years away they are from actually being mass produced. Sometimes new technologies like anti-scratch coating give one side the edge, but then the other quickly adopts the same.
Alliances have been forged and broken down, peace talks attempted and shattered into bits, oh yes, this is real war. Sony are even using the old Trojan Horse strategy by putting the Blu Ray drive in the PS3 to ensure their format is in tens of millions of homes, even though that's probably one of the reasons we're constantly warned about how expensive the PS3 is going to be. Anyone who remembers how much the first DVD players cost will tell you that first generation players for a new format at a reasonable price are simply impossible. Someone has to be losing a lot of money, and that's probably why Sony, by their own admission, will be arguing over the price of the PS3 until the last possible minute.
As you can see already the format war is affecting our videogames. Sony, who outside of the PlayStation has seriously struggled in the past few years, previously lost the Betamax vs VHS wars, then lost again in the creation of the DVD standard we know today. One analyst, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities, said how Sony has "bet the entire future on this", and went on to explain how "it's too important for them to lose, so they will do everything they can to win."
Meanwhile to keep costs down and release the Xbox 360 this year, Microsoft's machine will only play regular DVD discs, as will the Nintendo Revolution. That's not to say Microsoft hasn’t chosen a favorite though. Originally in return for Sony including Microsoft's VC-1 codec in the Blu Ray standard, which had already been adopted by the HD-DVD group, Microsoft was meant to remain neutral.
Then Microsoft laid down some standards of what they demand for the future, in terms of being able to stream movies around the house via Windows Media Center, and several other such details. Recently as movie studios seemed to be siding with Sony because of stronger copy protection, Bill Gates and Intel publicly sided with HD-DVD, stating Blu Ray hadn't lived up to their requirements. Naturally the Blu Ray executives were out raged, and pointed out how they do in fact meet those standards.
No doubt this is a battle that will be fought for a long time to come, but not knowing which side will be the next Laserdisc or VCD, we the consumers are going to lose out. Let's just hope on the videogames side of things, that the finances to fund this war won't come all from our own pockets.

While it's only been a month since Nintendo released its Game Boy Micro, the handheld is already getting a new special edition. Today in Japan, Nintendo announced it will release a special Game Boy Micro Pokémon Version on November 17. The handheld comes in a slick two-toned color, with a metallic red body, a black front panel, and a silhouette of Pikachu on the right-hand side.
The Game Boy Micro Pokémon Version will be available through Pokémon Online, Pokémon Mobile, and Pokémon Centers located throughout Japan. Preorders will be open starting October 20. The handheld will have the same 12,000 yen ($105) yen price tag as the regular Micro. It is the second special edition for the Micro, after the gold-and-red Famicom version that was released alongside the standard edition of the handheld. Neither the Famicom nor the Pokémon versions is yet available in the US.
Though the special editions of the Game Boy Micro are sure to be sought after, the regular version is selling just fine in Japan. This week's edition of Famitsu says the miniaturized version of the Game Boy Advance--the third version of the handheld--has sold more than 200,000 units since it went on sale September 13, 2005. According to Dengeki Online, the handheld sold 148,000 units during its first week of release in Japan, accounting for approximately 55 percent of hardware shipments. Its launch numbers have surpassed those of the Game Boy Advance SP, which sold 110,000 units in its first week when it was released in February of 2003.
The Game Boy Micro has been on sale in the US since September 19, but no US hardware sales figures have yet been released.

Ooh, doesn’t that look nice! Thanks to our love and understanding of the beautiful game, we lucky Europeans are being blessed with this bundle from Nintendo.
The Japanese giant’s latest Mario sports crossover title, Mario Smash Football, is to come bundled with this special edition GameCube – and doesn’t she look bee-yootiful in white?
Retailing at a piffling €99 throughout Europe (expect to pay around £70 in Britain), you’d be justified in thinking it should sell quite well. At those prices, it’s almost worth it if you already have a GameCube – just for the game and natty white controller. Though why such an obvious candidate for multiplayer action should only come with one controller is something of a mystery, especially when the Mario Party 7 bundle the Americans are getting – also announced this week – comes with two.
If you don’t have a GameCube, and are thinking of snapping one up late in the day for playing the new Zelda or completing a console collection, you could do a lot worse than this. And you’ll only have to hang on until November the 18th. If you squint when you’re holding the controller, you could pretend you’ve just brought home an Xbox 360. Bonanza!

Nintendo is hoping to bump up Christmas sales by launching a new GameCube and Mario Party 7 bundle in the US and a Pokemon-branded Game Boy Micro in Japan.
From November 7, US shoppers will be able to pick up a GameCube, Mario Party 7 and two controllers for USD 99.99 - the same current price as a standalone console and controller.
The latest instalment in the Mario Party series features 80 mini-games and a multiplayer mode for up to eight opponents. It comes with the GameCube Mic, which allows users to command characters' movements vocally. The game will retail for USD 49.99.
The move follows poor sales for GameCube hardware and software in North America, as recently revealed in Nintendo's half-year financial results. The company's senior marketing director, Yoshihiro Mori, conceded that "The product's life is nearing its end."
So far no GameCube bundles have been announced for Japan, but Nintendo did confirm that a Pokemon edition of its diminutive new Game Boy Micro handheld will be hitting the shops on November 17. Designed in metallic red and black, it features a small white Pikachu silhouette above the A and B buttons.
Nintendo will distribute the product via Pokemon Online and Pokemon Mobile, and through Pokemon Centres across Japan. It will retail for 12,000 yen (USD 105) - the same price as the non-branded Micro.
Nintendo declined to comment on whether any GameCube bundles are planned for Europe, or whether the Pokemon GB Micro will make it over here. However, a representative did confirm that there will be announcements made regarding Christmas promotions over the coming weeks.

Puppy training simulator Nintendogs has racked up sales of over 160,000 units across Europe in its first weekend on sale, with the Nintendo DS title looking set to match its earlier successes in North America and Japan.
The highly unusual title - which allows players to interact directly with a puppy using the stylus and microphone on the Nintendo DS - launched last Friday in Europe, accompanied by new pink and blue editions of the DS console.
The enormous success of the game mirrors the situation in North America, where the title sold around 250,000 units in its first week on sale. So far 1.5 million units have been sold in North America and Japan alone.
"Nintendogs is clearly helping sell new Nintendo DS hardware," commented Nintendo's senior director of marketing Jim Merrick. "Nintendo DS sales are up between 400 - 700 per cent across Europe; this will further cement our position as leader in the portable market."
In Japan, Nintendogs sold strongly to female audiences and is fingered as a key title in helping to drive the DS console out beyond the traditional gaming demographic in that market, along with other software such as the Brain Training titles - which will appear in Europe in the coming months.

Aside from frozen taquitos and bad wine, few parties come in a box. Nintendo is trying to change that with a new bundle set for release next month. Included in the deal is a Nintendo GameCube, Mario Party 7, and two controllers, for the celebratory price of $99.99.
The latest in the Mario Party series features 80 new minigames and comes with the GameCube Mic, a peripheral that accepts voice commands. If the party gets a little crowded, Mario Party 7 also has a board-game-style game that supports eight players.
Currently, $100 will get gamers only a GameCube and a controller. The reasons for the price break? Nintendo recently reported a dip in first-half earnings, with the main culprit being the decrease in interest in the GameCube.
Also, the next wave of next-generation systems is just over a month off, and Nintendo's own contribution to the new era is possibly more than a year away. With new GameCube owners, Nintendo could ease the difficult off-season with software sales.
Mario Party 7 is rated E for Everyone. Both the bundle ($99.99) and the game ($49.99 if purchased separately) will be released on November 7.

Just because Sega's hitting the reset button on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for next-generation systems, that doesn't mean the company is abandoning all of its Sonic efforts from this generation. As evidence of this, Sega announced today that it is publishing the Sonic Advance & Sonic Pinball Party Combo Pack for the Game Boy Advance.
Originally released in 2002, Sonic Advance brings Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy together to once again thwart the evil Dr. Eggman and his schemes in the series' traditional platform style. Sonic Pinball Party, on the other hand, was at once a departure from the series' formula and a throwback to Sonic Spinball on the Genesis. The combo pack is rated E for Everyone and will be released in November for $29.95.

After bringing you the news back in July that the fantastically fast and furious racer Burnout Legends was on its way to Nintendo DS, we've now uncovered the first shots of the pocket rocket.
As with the PSP edition, Burnout Legends DS combines aspects of the first three console versions of the series and, with unashamed vehicle shunting, upended motors and flying bodywork all present and correct in the new shots, the DS version's smashanigans (You're fired - Ed) look set to be just as addictive as in previous outings.
Penned for release in December, the game's publisher EA has yet to release any detailed gameplay information, and it seems DS's touch-screen will not be fully utilised - these shots merely show maps and statistics on DS's bottom screen.
However, the handheld's WiFi capabilities will surely mean a bit of head-to-head racing and car swappery is on the cards.
Burnout Legends will be released for DS in December and is out for PSP now

TO DO:
- Real Ins/Ovr button.
- Caps/Shift indicators.
- Proper wrapping of really long lines.
- Repeating characters.
- Touch buttons for the cursor functions.
- Left hand/right hand mode.
- Credits screen.

For a long time now, I've been wanting to implement breakpoints into DSemu's debugger. Indeed, I remember writing about it here. And for the longest time, I thought having a list that the dispatch looks through every cycle would be too slow. But then I found C++.
The STL has a log-n reverse lookup table (just a map, basically) that I can use to get some viable speed out of the breakpoints. And so I have.
And keep in mind, this is working on Linux; the Windows compile looks exactly the same, and if I could get it to build on OSX, it'd be the same as well. So yeah, it's portable.
It would seem that the project lives once again. I took up the idea recently of using C++ to create a massively modular plugin structure, and it seems to be pulling itself off. As of right now, I have a small amount of an ARM7 core in one plugin, a mode3/4 GPU in another plugin, and a memory plugin tying them together.
Not only that, but the whole lot is portable cross-platform, thanks to the FLTK user interface plugin. And that means I can run this thing on Windows, Linux, yea even on OSX (if it would compile there).
As of right now, the simplest of mode3 demos run, and mic's afire also seems to work fine. Anything else refuses to output. That may be due to missing instructions in the core, or missing graphics; either way, there's a long way to go.
I am, of course, providing the source. Eventually, this'll make its way into the official DSemu repository as a (huge) patch, replacing nigh-on the whole repository with new source files. But for now, you can grab the source at the link below. (You will need fltk's includes and libraries; the Unix makefile checks for them, the Windows one doesn't.)

Mollusk:
0.60c
- Fixed the speed problem
- Fixed another problem in the sound init
- Adapted the makefile, now just put the mod in the data directory, and put #include modfile.h"
- Fixed upper/lower case problems for linux systems
The downloads have been totally migrated to sourceforge, in 3 packages :
- Examples... (zip)
- PAlib without the examples, a bit smaller (zip)
- Complete package (will include examples and the doc when I update it), in 7z format, though, to take up less space. I'll add a documentation package next time I update it
0.60d
- Library (when compiled) and rom sizes reduced by 150kb
- Optimised the Astar memory usage, now has an init function...
- Added a function to load mod files from GBFS (too large files will kill your DS, though, as it copies them into RAM)
- Added a LargeMap Ex function, in which you chose the tileset size

This little demo I put together outputs a few different methods of interpolating more accurate touch readings from the DS. The method that works best is simply averaging the last few points to get the next one. It is by no means finished, and the cursor is still a little jumpy, but its better than using raw data. Try touching the screen very lightly and you will see the inaccuracy of the DS touch screen.

On November 28th, Nintendo will be selling a new bundle of the Wi-Fi-enabled Mario Kart racing game for the DS. Included with the bundle will be a DS with a special “Hot Rod Red” color, a checkered-flag wrist strap, and a set of “racing-inspired” decals for use in customizing your mass-produced consumer product.
Mario Kart DS—as those of us who saw it in action at GDC 2005 know—will be Nintendo’s first game to take advantage of the Nintendo DS’s built-in Wi-Fi connection. If you’re within range of a Wi-Fi network, you’ll be able to play against pretty much anybody else that has a DS and is also in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Mario: not too exciting. Mario Kart: kinda cool. Mario Kart DS: yet another nifty title that’s got people picking up a DS more often than a PSP these days, but Liberty City Stories may be set to change all of that.

Now this is long overdue and to be honest an extremely foolish thing to do in the first place, but the creator of the DS Brick Apologises, heres the full post:
I want to say sorry to everyone out there. I should have realized the impact. Not just few DS'es that were hurt, but all the damn media and whatnot.
I cannot really justify my actions. It was also very selfish to draw some attention, which I tend to do in odd ways.
It caused some harm to some non-targetted and targetted people owning a DS with non-Nintendo-approved hardware.
And that is a terrible thing to do. Even more so with the reputation I had in the DS homebrew scene that now completely abandoned me.
I do not have clear reasons and I can't blaim the little headache I had at the time. I just had to realize the idea I had after seeing the PSP variant of a bricker.
The files do not come with any form of name/signature of me, a thing I would do if it could be trusted.
I won't release any more of this crap for DS and I don't think parts of this trojan or the idea itself will emerge in future homebrew releases.
The point is probably clear. Do not run any form of untrusted code that just suddenly appears without any name.
If you only use official Nintendo games, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Untrusted code includes ROM loaders and that sort of stuff. It's probably not a very good reason since it has been proven before.
I can tell that the negative feedback is far greater than the positive ones. I received one donation of $6.66 and I'm not proud of it.
One news site completely ignores the r0mloader version and reasoning behind it. grrrrr.
Another common mistake: A TROJAN IS NOT A VIRUS! That means that it does not propagate on its own. And thus non-intrusive.

The GameCube may be slumping, but Nintendo's DS is helping pick up the slack, according to the top 100 sales charts for the first half of fiscal year 2006 (March 28-October 4), as reported in the latest issue of Famitsu.
While the PlayStation 2 commanded more spots in the top 10 than any other system (5), and also claimed the top spot with Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 (884,130 units sold), four Nintendo-published DS games and a Sega Game Boy Advance game helped split the chart 50-50 between Nintendo's handhelds and the PS2.
Nintendogs took second place by selling 697,940 copies, followed closely by the surprise hit Nou o Kitaeru Otona no DS Training (615,074 units sold), a puzzle game intended to enhance brain activity in adults. Another brain-teasing DS game, Yawaraka Atama-Juku, ranked sixth (531,750 units sold), while the handheld's Shonen Jump-inspired anime battle royal Jump Super Stars sneaked in to the top 10 with 375,745 copies sold.
While the numbers look good for the DS and the PS2, those systems' respective homebound and handheld counterparts had disappointing showings. As for the rest of the top 100, the highest-ranking GameCube game, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, only made it to 20th place (194,775 units sold), while PSP offerings topped out at 35 with World Soccer Winning Eleven Ubiquitous Evolution (137,337 units sold).
Overall, the PS2 fielded the most entrants into the top 100, with 57 games, followed by 17 games for the DS, 12 GBA offerings, 8 PSP games, and a half-dozen GameCube releases. No Xbox or PSOne games managed to crack the top 100.

Earlier this month, Nintendo reported a drop in revenue of almost 7 percent and laid most of the blame on the sluggish performance of the GameCube. Nintendo senior managing director Yoshihiro Mori went so far as to say, "It looks like the product's life is nearing its end."
Nintendo doesn't want it to go without a fight, however. Earlier this week the company announced a Mario Party 7 GameCube bundle for North America that would include the system, the Mario Party 7 game, and an extra controller, all for the same $99 price the system currently goes for on its own. The company has also released a $99 Pokémon XD GameCube bundle that includes the system, the Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness game, and a limited edition Pokémon XD faceplate. Now word arrives that the company is planning to push the system in its homeland as well.
According to retail sources in Japan, Nintendo will be slashing the price of the GameCube in that country on October 27. However, the size of the cut is unknown, since Nintendo is no longer giving an MSRP for the console. Some retailers are already starting to accept preorders for GameCube shipments after the date for 9,700 yen ($84), which is roughly 30 percent less than the current street price of 13,800 yen ($120).
Nintendo hasn't officially announced a price cut yet, but it did confirm on Wednesday that the console would move to an "open price" starting October 27, meaning the machine will no longer have an official MSRP. The practice is adopted as a standard in Japan's electronics industry, since it gives manufacturers the flexibility to freely reprice their products depending on the market situation. Sony's slimline PlayStation 2 also carries an open price.
If the cut is as substantial as retailers are expecting it to be, the GameCube will become the cheapest current-generation console available in the Japanese market today, even more affordable than the Game Boy Micro, which currently goes for 12,000 yen ($105). The change should boost sales of the console, which has been staggering in recent months. For the week of September 26, Media Create reports that the GameCube sold 1,958 units in Japan, less than one-tenth of the 24,638 PS2 units sold in the same week.

News from Gamespot
It's no secret that portable gaming machines are wildly popular in Japan. In the last year, three high-profile handhelds have stormed the country, the latest being Nintendo's Game Boy Micro. Now, with all three on the market, various sales charts in Japan are showing some interesting trends.
Recent sales figures provided by Dengeki Online revealed that cumulative shipment of the DS has nearly doubled that of the PSP in Japan since their launch in the country last December. As of the end of September 2005, Nintendo sold 3.2 million units of its DS handheld in Japan, while Sony Computer Entertainment shipped only 1.7 million units.
The latest issue of Famitsu showed that the line-up of games seems to be the main factor for the PSP's sluggish sales. While four DS games ranked in the top 10 sales chart for the first half of FY 2006, the best-selling game for the PSP, Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 Ubiquitous Evolution, trailed behind at 35th place.
A private survey conducted by the magazine further showed that only 15.3 percent of PSP owners are happy about its game line-up, and 46.2 percent see it as the biggest issue regarding the PSP. On the other hand, 46.1 percent of DS owners are satisfied with the line-up of their handheld, and the number of owners complaining about the lack of games remained low at 24.2 percent.
According to the survey, the biggest issue for DS owners is the machine's design, with 31.3 percent of Japanese gamers complaining about its size and weight, especially since the handheld is often played with one hand holding the stylus. On the other hand, PSP owners see their handheld's design as the second-best selling point, following its various hardware functions. However, hardware functions are also the selling point for the DS, with 61.8 percent of owners saying that they like its touch-screen controls.
While the Game Boy Micro has been a successful hit in Japan since its debut in September, its sales seem to be gradually settling down. Famitsu reports that the handheld has shipped 200,000 units in its first three weeks of release. But the week of September 26 saw a decline of 45 percent, as the handheld's sales dropped from the 52,048 units sold the week before down to 28,721 units.
A private survey published in the magazine showed some mixed figures for the Game Boy Micro, as 46.9 percent of surveyed gamers said that they had no interest or plans in picking up the handheld at the current time. The unit's price seems to be the biggest sales roadblock for the miniaturized Game Boy Advance, with 83.9 percent of gamers saying that its quality doesn't justify its price. The Micro sells in Japan for 12,000 yen ($105), which is only 3,000 yen ($26) less than the DS.
24.7 percent of gamers said they would consider purchasing the Micro when its price drops, while 22 percent said they're currently interested in picking up the handheld. The top incentive for buying the Game Boy Micro is its chic style. With multiple answers allowed, gamers planning to pick up the handheld voted its design as the top reason for purchase at 80 percent, followed by its size (54.3 percent), and face plates (36 percent).

A TRANSLATION of a Nintendo report lets it be known that Nintendo intends to allow retailers to set their own prices for the Gamecube, beginning October 27th.
The console that has been described as "nearing the end of its life" is currently selling at 14,000 yen or £69. This loosening of restrictions from Nintendo will allow retailers to sell at whatever price they deem necessary to shift the console.
The move may however not be as desperate as it first seems. Sony has already instigated a not entirely dissimilar policy concerning its PS2, though this began in May of 2005. This policy is thought responsible for keeping sales of the PS2 high throughout the year.
Gamasutra here has more details, along with another translated item noting that 82% of customers buying a "Touch! Generations" game on the Nintendo DS have subsequently bought a second title. More than half of those buying a second game have bought another T!G game, the most famous of which is Nintendogs. µ

In our last Mario Kart DS post, we managed to find a video of the game’s Wi-Fi menu screens in action, but we didn’t get a taste for the gameplay evident in the other missing files. Thankfully, a free RapidShare download mirror of the 40MB of zipped-up content has been made available, and we can now indulge in seven fast in-game videos (even if they’re in Spanish and missing sound).
There are many things you can catch in the videos, whether running driving missions (Misiones) on a giant DS (BatallaGlobos), editing the design on the front of your kart (Vinilos), or even Wario pumping his frosty fists after a successful strike (CircuitoNevado). What’s most impressive, however, is squeezing visuals onto the handheld that look more like the N64 version of MK than the SNES one.

We’ve heard the rumors, but now we can read the financial reports: Nintendo expects the Revolution to launch in Japan in the spring of ‘06.
[UPDATE: IGN claims that this is a misinterpretation of the 2006 launch estimate. (See the Cube mailbag for today.) An official translation would sure be nice. Thanks, Andy!]
That may not be news to Revolution watchers who figured the console would try to launch with (or get a jump-start on) the PS3, but that little tidbit may have been missed in our previous post on the GameCube’s slumping North-American sales.
Unfortunately, it may take quite a bit longer for Nintendo’s new console to rev up sales in other territories. After all, the Revolution may not launch in the U.S. until November of next year, and in Europe or other PAL countries until 2007. We’ll have to wait and see.

Infantile Paralyser have updated their Shell for the NintendoDS. heres whats new:
A lot and it doesn't remember. Only the remembered part is enumerated.
DMV was completely renewed. It became smooth faster. And, a large amount of sizes of the file became it.
When starting, the sound was added. (see global.ini)
'Delay and interval' of key repeat was made to be able to be set. (see global.ini)
CrashMe is detected by multi boot. The start was stopped. Detection is powerless compared with subspecies.
The re-drawing of the file list is sped up. Only a necessary range is updated.
It corrected it because it was IMFS and there was a decipherment bug of LZSS.
It is effective in the situation that demands single NDSROM such as SuperCard. (see files_EXFS/readme.txt)
When DMV is performed. The light of the screen in the under was turned off when making it to full-screen.
It corresponded to the SPC reproduction. (include from PocketSPC) Thank you Gary Linscott.
The GBAMPCF driver was renewed. It corresponded to FAT32.
The proportional font was cached and it sped it up.

As of the end of September of this year, the Nintendo DS has sold 3.2 million units while the Sony PSP has sold just 1.7 million units in Japan, according to sales figures provided by Japanese games site Dengeki Online. The culprit? Sony’s just not coming out with games that Japanese gamers want to buy. The PSP’s game lineup is a source of major dissatisfaction for Japanese gamers, with just 15.3 percent of them satisfied about the games available for the system. Compare that to nearly 50% of DS owners who are happy with the games available for the DS.
This isn’t a shocker. We’ve been hearing from reader comments for a while now that the PSP’s line-up is somewhat lackluster. The top-ranked PSP game to date is launch title Lumines, and that’s kind of puzzling, considering how well Sony has done lining up developer support for the PlayStation consoles.
Maybe this is only a short-term problem. There are currently around 50 PSP games available, and Sony has promised that nearly 150 will be available by Sprint 2006, but we still have to wonder whether Sony might have taken on more than it can handle in trying to launch the PS3 and support a brand new mobile console at the same time.
But as we all know, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Another way to look at these same figures is in terms of gross sales. At twice the price of a DS, the PSP only needs to sell half as many units to match gross sales. That’s not too shabby for Sony’s first-ever game console portable

Nintendo DS’s Wi-Fi capabilities have been unveiled
. Interesting features include:
Save settings for up to three connections
Auto-detection of available wi-fi networks
Support for primary and secondary DNS servers
Support for DHCP and static IP addresses
Support for WEP (but not WPA!) security
This last item is going to earn the system some real bronx cheers. According to security experts, WEP is an obsolete protocol for securing wireless data transmissions. Earlier this year, the FBI gave demonstrated that they could crack open a “WEP-protected network in 3 minutes using publicly available tools” (source).
So what’s the big deal if someone’s snooping on your Mario Kart race? There’s probably not too much risk, as most hackers are going to be looking for the juicy stuff, like people signing in to their PayPal accounts or engaging in PictoChat cyber. This does expose the DS to man-in-the-middle and hijacking attacks, but does that mean that viruses and bricking trojans can be introduced to game devices via wireless attack?

Im not sure what egga is unless its the Genesis emulator but heres the news posted on LiraNunas site:
It has been some time since my last update. so here is a short news flash.
First of all, i got my DS! finally!. and currently it's at the store, being replaced because of a dead red pixel at the upper screen.
The work on Egga has also been improved, now the emulator can output sound at a high quality 32Khz stereo. The emulator's speed is almost perfect, 30-45 FPS with sound, altho it still has some problems with tiles and direct rendering which i can't resolve. There is no awy of adding your own ROMs into it, cause i still need to add some kind of a ROMFS. after i will code or find a ROMFS, i will add it to WonDerS too.
the work on WinDS has also increased lately, cause of something i can't talk about right now. I'm polishing documentations, and adding more and more examples. Yesterday i was able to convert Doxygen's HTML generated docs to a CHM format which is a lot more smaller and easier to use.
Alot of GFXers has contected me. which is very nice! i got some nice sprites from Tostadilla, and i will soon add them to HornetDS.
I'm intrested in buying a GBAMP, but i don't have the money. 25$ is kinda expensive here in Israel, so it'll
take some time. I am allways accepting donations if you are willing to help

The Nintendo Power Hotline (425.885.7529) has a thing or two to say about the Nintendo Revolution including:
”When Nintendo’s new console, codenamed Revolution, arrives in the later half of 2006, everyone will discover the meaning of all-access gaming.”
Sounds like the “Revolution” will make its way to North America sometime after Summer 2006. But that’s if you trust a hotline…

The internet's been a-flutter this weekend with the news that Nintendo's latest financial report has earmarked the Revolution for a Japanese release as early as spring 2006.
Unfortunately, no sooner did the rumours settle in for a comfortable probing than a cold sharp gust of reality swept in, sending them scampering away. Of course, as is the way with these things, the spring 2006 titterings were immediately usurped by yet another blip of light at the end of the release tunnel. Revolution rumour-mongering ahead!
First up, this financial report: as you've no doubt seen already (but it's worth a quick recap), Nintendo's reported a tumble in sales from 190 billion yen to 175 billion yen - a slump that the company's attributed firmly to GameCube ringing in the death knell over in the US, as well as a whole bunch of aggressive price cuts for the DS and development costs for the upcoming Revolution.
However, thanks to a faltering yen exchange rate, Nintendo managed to massively outperform its predicted six month profits reaching 36 billion yen rather than the expected 19 billion yen.
Anyway, the part that sparked off all the frantic clamouring across the web was the bit at the end, reportedly claiming that the Revolution was set to see its Japanese launch in spring next year - and, you know, you can't get much more official than a report straight from Nintendo's own chattering gob. Except, of course, it turns out that it was all a big whoopsie on the translation front.
However, fanning the news flames even further, it seems that Nintendo of America is gearing up for an Autumn 2006 release of the console, all the same. On it's official Nintendo Power hotline in the US, selecting the Revolution option reveals the message: "As the company with the strongest heritage of innovation, Nintendo moves the bar for all next gen systems by employing a wide-ranging strategy that will attract more kinds of gamers to more kinds of games. When Nintendo's new console, codenamed Revolution, arrives in the latter half of 2006, everyone will discover the meaning of all-access gaming".
So, assuming it's not all one big cock-up on NoA's part, it's looking increasingly likely that the Revolution's set to see daylight before next year's out at the very least. Of course, where this leaves PAL territories is anyone's guess. Perhaps the big N's going to do a Microsoft and push for a near-as-global launch as possible. Of course, going on past experience, maybe it's not.
File all this lot under 'not totally unconvincing speculation' for the time being, while we wait for some official word from Nintendo itself. Eventually.

News from the DSemu Site:
So. As of right now, I have a kinda-functional ARM and Thumb core, and the former DSemu's GPU has been ported in full to the new plugin structure. And that means ARMwrestler tests all green, which is a good thing.
I've also been testing a few demos gleaned from PDroms, and have in fact had some results; indeed, maybe 30% of the small tech demos I've downloaded so far seem to run. Furthermore, I've finally found that little bug that was causing Torlus's Walk3D guy to be missing half his ribs and a thigh.
Love the overflow flag.

As gaming enters its next generation, checking calendars for the origins of popular series more commonly yields ages older than a decade. One such franchise is the Fire Emblem series, which first appeared on the Famicom system 15 years ago. Today, Nintendo announced that the latest chapter in the franchise is now available on its latest entertainment system: the GameCube.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance continues the role-playing gameplay and epic storytelling and includes 3D graphics for the first time in the series. A vast array of characters includes knights, monks, cavaliers, and the Iaguz, a race of half-man, half-animal beings that can take the form of cats, dragons, and more.
The game was released in Japan in April and is the first North American release of the series not on the Game Boy Advance. Gamers who connect a GameCube with Path of Radiance to a GBA with either previous Fire Emblem games will unlock special Fire Emblem character art and challenge maps for Nintendo's current console.

We don’t mean to get up on a soapbox here or anything, but the same DS WiFi network Nintendo’s setting up in Japan in more benign spots like video game shops is still scheduled to hit America (as expected), but will land in a slightly more inauspicious venue: McDonald’s. There are a lot of ways to roll out wireless access, but did Nintendo really have to go the one route that not only plays into the fat-gamer-nerd stereotype, but actually actively encourages unhealthy diets in America’s youth? Gamers will supposedly be able to compete via WiFi in one of MickeyDee’s 6,000 hotspot restaurants; we’re as yet unsure of whether there’ll be other future wireless venues for the DS, but let’s hope there will be by giving them a resounding lack of support on this one.

More news on the WIfi subject:
Nintendo of America has signed a deal with McDonald's to put Wi-Fi hotspots in more than 7000 restaurants across the US, giving DS owners free access to the new Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.
McDonald's already offers wireless Internet access to laptop owners in restaurants around the country, but charges a fee. The access points are supplied by Texan firm Wayport, which will receive an undisclosed sum from Nintendo for providing wireless access for the DS.
"This agreement with Wayport will bring countless people together to play games in a single, simultaneous wireless community," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive VP of sales and marketing.
"Beginning with free access at participating McDonald's, we have removed one of the major barriers that have kept people from going online to play games."
Wayport CEO Dave Vucina commented: "By enabling Nintendo DS customers to access Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection via our Wi-Fi World network and business model at McDonald's, we are continuing to drive more customers to the restaurants we serve and increase the relevancy of Wi-Fi to a broader customer base."
"Nintendo is a pioneer in providing a new way for their customers to play the games they want to while away from home or the office, and McDonald's is the perfect venue based on their ubiquity and accessibility."
The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service will launch in the US on November 14, with a European launch to follow on November 25 - the same day as Mario Kart DS, complete with online mode, hits shop shelves. Other forthcoming Wi-Fi titles include Metroid Prime Hunters, Animal Crossing: Wild World and Tony Hawk's American SK8Land. Nintendo was unavailable to comment on whether European McDonald's restaurants will also offer free access to the service.
However, it has been confirmed that "Nintendo DS is just the first Nintendo system to connect via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection," according to an official statement.
"The same service will be incorporated into Nintendo's next-generation home video game console, codenamed Revolution, which is set for release in 2006."

News from Lik Sang
The popular turn-based strategy series that began 15 years ago on the NES takes on a new dimension this week with the US GameCube release. For centuries humans and half-man/half-beast demi-humans have battled on the continent of Tellius. Finally after established an uneasy peace, the kingdom of Daein launches an unprovoked attack, and all hell breaks loose. Lead character Ike and his team mates, including shape-shifters who transform into beasts, must fight to save the day, and earn their pay along the way. As with past Fire Emblem titles, there's a strong story here, and characters, each with different views, morals and responsibilities, will grow and change profoundly over the adventure. Furthermore, if team mates often fight close together, they slowly form a bond and will support each other more during battle with extra attack, defense and other helpful inputs.
Other new additions include a new skill system that unlocks abilities as time goes on, ensuring your strategies are ever changing; for example Stealth can be used to sneak behind enemy lines. To help protect your fighters, you can select an enemy and see how far they can move, or if a comrade is in sudden danger, but it's not their turn, a near by team mate can "shove" them out of harms way. Allowing you more control than ever, you can now forge your own bow, lance, axe, magical tome or sword, complete with custom Attack, Hit, Critical and Weight values, along with your own choice of color and name. With full 3D battles, progressive scan support, beautifully drawn and animated cut scenes, and a dramatic fantasy score, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance will be in stock early this week, and pre-orders are still being accepted now.

sgstair:
I've been getting a lot of mail/etc from people suggesting that I use uIP to replace lwIP..... well, I'll briefly explain why I'm not doing that. First, have you seen uIP's interface? I mean, sure it has a small footprint but it looks like an utter pain to use for anyone but hardware engineers. Not to mention it doesn't support things we really like such as fragmented packet reordering, packet retransmission and other things people expect a TCP system to do. Were I to use uIP, I would basicly have to do the same amout of work I'm going to be doing with my own TCP stack, I still have to emulate sockets, and I would have to write most of the major features that a TCP system needs. Well, I don't mean to lash out at the people sending me links, as I'm glad people are interested and trying to help - but uIP just isn't going to cut it. We now return you to your regularly scheduled waiting...

Electroplankton has finally received a release date for the DS here in the States: January 9, 2006.
The hard-to-describe music-interaction simulator (with cute digital creatures) fits perfectly with Nintendo’s recent strategy of releasing titles, like Nintendogs, which break the mold and don’t fit our traditional notions of what a game can really be. (Check out some “gameplay” videos here.)
If you’re put off by the primitive-looking graphics, keep in mind that ’plankton is the work of but one man, the “media artist” Toshio Iwai (who supposedly crafted the game’s Japanese manual as well). Get ready to sample some funky Mario remixes on your DS in the new year.

I mines is NU40 does that mean i am unable to user superpass or has it been updated to work on some newer. Also if it doesnt work should i go with Passme instead

Nintendo finally announced the Rumble Pak accessory for the DS. It will be bundled with Metroid Prime Pinball. Just shove this accessory right into your DS and lo and behold, your system will do some kind of vibrating, jiggle thing. Instead of the usual “Start GBA game” you’d see when you insert a cartridge, you’ll get a message that says “DS Option Pak inserted.” Rumour has it that the noises the game makes in rumble mode is pretty unbearable—loud and chirpy—but it certainly is different. Look for other games (like Metroid Prime Hunter and Mario and Luigi:Partners in Time) to support the pack soon.

As the launch of Nintendo's online handheld racer Mario Kart DS squeals ever closer, we're getting increasingly frothy over the steady stream of new details pouring from the deepest recesses of the internet.
This time around, website ds.advancedmn.com is reporting on confirmation of the complete track listing for Mario's latest tyre-burning trip around the tarmac. It's pretty astonishing purely for the sheer number of tracks Nintendo is cramming into the handheld version, with a total of thirty-two courses in the mix.
There's been some confusion on the web previously regarding the game's Retro track mode, with various reports incorrectly claiming that Mario Kart's past glories are all you'll have to race around come launch day. In fact, not only does the game feature sixteen fully 3D reworkings of classic courses culled from previous GameCube, GBA, N64 and SNES versions but sixteen brand new tracks as well.
Check out the full listing below and dare to dream of the unadulterated moustachioed racing bliss you'll be experiencing come November 25.

Remember back at TGS when Nintendo finally unveiled the Revolution controller, causing the entire internet to spontaneously explode? Well, you might also remember the company's video featuring a whole host of prominent developers gushing over the Revolution wand at the end of its presentation - and they don't come much more prominent than Hideo Kojima.
The Metal Gear creator mentioned at the time that his team was looking into Revolution development but now it seems that US magazine Game Informer has had confirmation during a chat with the man himself that work on a brand new title is officially underway.
Kojima is working with his Metal Gear Ac!d team on the still undisclosed - but almost certainly unrelated to the Metal Gear series - title, which can only be good news for Nintendo, securing the indisputable talents of such a high-profile developer for its next-gen machine.
We'll have more news on the mystery game just as soon as Kojima's ready to slap his bacon on the counter.

News from Lik Sang
While graphics and gameplay usually take the spot light in videogames, music is all too often overlooked. From time to time though, innovations are made, from games like Vib Ribbon, to Parappa the Rapper, Dance Dance Revolution, Space Channel 5 and Rez, music played a vital part. Then there's Tomb Raider which used a unique combination of silence and song to reward and brew up emotions in us, and games such as Lumines and NiGHTS where the music actually reacted and changed as we played.
Each game system usually has a few such titles over its lifetime, but in less than a year the Nintendo DS already has three. Electroplankton, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Dai Gassou! Band Brothers provide hungry DS systems with a fresh taste in games. Considering after Jump Superstars they are #2, #3, #4 and #5 on our best selling Japanese NDS games of all time, it seems there just may be more to these titles than some people realize. So let's see what all the fuss is about...
Electroplankton
First up, being developed by Nintendo themselves, Electroplankton has received the most attention. It's described as "Touchable Media Art", and pushing the boundaries of what you'd consider a videogame, the creatures in its water based world will react to your touch and voice and produce different sounds as a result.
There's ten species of Electroplankton, each of which you can play with differently and produce new unique songs. For example Beatnes can have tunes like the Super Mario Bros. theme playing in the background, and by touching their heads or various parts of the tails, you create your own remix of the Nintendo classic. If you'd prefer to drum up your own beats though, other animals create various noises and by manipulating their environment, come together and an original melody comes to life before your eyes and ears. Rec-Rec's for example 'eat' sounds when hungry, and you can 'feed' them what ever you like through the built in microphone.
Then there's Nanocarp, which will group into different formations based on your own sounds, from clapping in various different patterns, to blowing on them, and even singing to them. Singing "Do, Re, Mi" will have them line up in the shape of a musical note, while other things like raising or lowering your voice as you sing, or changing the octave produce new results. There's so many possibilities with all the different Electroplankton, it's easy to loose track of time just playing, even though this isn't a game in the traditional sense of scores, levels etc.
If you'd prefer just to sit back and relax however, you can leave Audience Mode running and let the ever changing Electroplankton perform for your listening pleasure. With English words, this couldn't be more import friendly, and comes with a free set of NDS headphones. So if you haven't yet experienced Electroplankton, give it a go today and see what the importers are raving about!
Everyone needs a little encouragement now and then. Whether you're studying for College, you're a Ramen Shop owner with cat pee up that needs mopping off the floor, or you're a sexually frustrated pottery maker, this team of male cheerleaders is here to help! Using those situations and more, you take care of the background music as the black trench coat wearing trio spring into action and attempt to motivate who ever needs it.
Gameplay uses various glowing circles on the touch screen, and as larger circles timed to the music close in on them, you tap them. Not just having you keep the beat though, each circle produces a sound effect of its own such as a whistle, clash of the cymbals, hit of the drums or others. As the game goes on it'll throw new challenges your way too, such as following a rolling a ball around, or spinning a turn table. The game will keep you busy for a long time, and the later levels will provide a worthy challenge for even the most hardcore of gamers. Along the way there's a wide variety of songs for everyone too, from rock to J-pop, funk and more.
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is the type of whacked out insanity that will almost certainly never get picked up for a release outside of Japan, but that you'll be dying to show your friends. If they have an NDS also, you can hook them in by sending a demo over the wireless, and once your buddies get a copy of their own, up to four of you can jam at once. Menus, while in Japanese are quite easy to navigate without knowing Japanese, but there's always a translation to it all a click away never the less.
With a great and in-your-face graphical style, plus the 16 reviews on our product page, an average of a full , every day many import gamers are finding out that Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is one of the most random and flat out fun purchases they've made all year! And with your help cheering him on, the Japanese business man that needs to transform into a 20 story high giant and battle a huge monster can finally do just that.
Dai Gasso! Band Brothers
Dai Gasso! Band Brothers lets you create your own virtual band through the Nintendo DS. Up on the top screen one of 40 songs play, such as the opening theme to Full Metal Alchemist, or Nintendo tunes from titles like Fire Emblem, Super Mario Sunshine, Dr. Mario, Kirby, Excitebike and more. Then using buttons on the touch screen, you're responsible for playing one part of the band, aiming to hit the right notes, timing and pitch. As you improve, the number of parts you have to play simultaneously increases, and when you reach Professional mode half steps and manual octave changes come into play. Because of the pace and sheer number of things you have to do at once at this point, the touch screen is then completely replaced by buttons.
When it's time for the band to practice, the game's dedicated mode for just that lets you pause, rewind and fast forward songs till you're happy with your results. Custom mode is the best of all however. Here you can create your own tunes, leaving the possibilities wide open, and letting you save 8 at any time onto the cartridge. Each song can also have up to 8 separate tracks, and Nintendo have clearly done their research to create an impressive MIDI composer here. There's the ability to cut, copy and paste, and with an unlimited number of undo and redo’s you can always satisfy your "what if's". If like me and you're a little rusty on the old composing skills though, you could always hum or even sing to your NDS, and it'll try and whip up a song to match.
In addition to the single player mode, you can have up to 8 members of your band play either the game's built in tunes, or your own, even if your friends don't own a copy of the game. All linked via wireless, everyone plays a part, and you can see 8 Japanese office workers try just that to the previously mentioned theme of Full Metal Alchemist here:
Dai Gassou! Band Brothers was, and still is, so popular in Japan that Nintendo actually released an expansion pack. Using the GBA cartridge slot, "Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartridge" contains over 30 more songs from pop, anime and game music like Super Mario 64, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Star Fox 64, Catch! Touch! Yoshi! and more. With a large amount of English words, this game would score a moderate on the import accessibility scale. Some trial and error is needed to figure out the more complex functions, but quickly it'll become instinctive, and that's exactly what you need when pumping out the fast tunes anyway.
Both the full game and expansion pack are in stock now, and if you've ever had an interest in creating music, Dai Gassou! Band Brothers is something not to miss. Or for those that haven't, this game makes a fantastic portable alternative to the likes of Keyboard Mania and Dance Dance Revolution!

New Commercial DS Game, heres the info from Success HK
Digging Strike combines elements from the original Dig Dug and its successor, Dig Dug II. The top screen shows an overhead view of the stage, similar to Dig Dug II. The bottom screen shows the stage in classic Dig Dug side view as you dig. Your goal is to defeat a single large boss character that has taken over the stage. Enemies move around underground with you, collecting food. Should they get their hands on food, they float up to the surface and are then consumed by the boss character, which then evolves into a more difficult form. You've got to avoid this by taking out food and enemies under ground. You have a number of weapons and items at your disposal outside of just your drill. Underground, you'll find magnets, bombs and boxing gloves which can be used to defeat enemies. You'll also find parts strewn about underground that you can use to build new weapons.

They’re lovable. They fetch you presents. They obey your commands AND work hard to earn you money! They’re…not real women! Well, we knew that, but I think they could be on to something with this Chinese web site’s spoof of some new dog game for the DS. If this idea ever gets the greenlight, the big N might have to rethink their “touch me” tagline. Are you listening, Rockstar?

In unofficially announcing a DS version of Mario Paint for the second half of 2006, Nintendo may have “inadvertently confirmed a Revolution version as well.”
“Nintendo plans to include painting, animation, and music functions in the game, which may be implemented together as one game or separated into three games like their Nintendogs series.”
More Wi-Fi connectivity is in the works, as “the new Mario Paint will be a community-building game and users will be able to share their creations with other DS users and Revolution users.” The same source claims that the Revolution edition will also have 3D-modeling capabilities.
Finally, an online version of Pictochat that really takes advantage of the DS’s stylus-based abilities (and the Revolution’s hand-held capabilities). We expect galleries of Paint-produced masterpieces to be posted to the web as soon as the games are released next year.

Capcom® today announced Resident Evil®: Deadly Silence for Nintendo DS™, a rendition of the original Resident Evil game that features both new and familiar gameplay, adapted to incorporate the handheld system's unique feature set. Resident Evil will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2006, marking a decade since the birth of the series that has been credited with popularizing and defining the survival horror genre. The Resident Evil series has sold more than 26 million units worldwide and is Capcom's highest selling series. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence will carry an "M" rating for mature audiences by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) and Capcom plans to release the game across North America in Q1 2006.
A secluded mansion in Raccoon City has been the center of top-secret biotech experiments - all funded by a mysterious corporation known only as Umbrella. When contact with the scientists at the mansion is broken and reports of gory attacks come in from areas nearby, the Special Tactics and Rescue Squads (S.T.A.R.S.) is sent in to investigate. The team is chased into the nearby foreboding mansion by a pack of monstrous creatures. Once inside the adventure begins.
Players control Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine as they embark on a horrific quest through a dark and mysterious mansion filled with unimaginable horrors. An entire arsenal aids them on their quest including bazookas, shotguns, pistols, health supplies and more. The heroes will need all the help they can get to survive a house filled with flesh hungry zombies, giant spiders, horrific amphibious creatures, mutant dogs and worse.
Players can relive the beginning of the Resident Evil saga in a newly revamped "rebirth mode." Whereas the original game focused more on puzzle solving, this new version will place a heavy emphasis on action with more enemies and ammo as well as improved visuals for intense enemy confrontations. Also, nearly half the puzzles have been freshly upgraded providing new challenges for fans. In addition, the rebirth mode includes enhanced controls and will incorporate the DS system's unique feature set, utilizing the touch screen and microphone functions.
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence includes the following features:
Dual screens offer a more accessible player interface
Top screen displays area map, ammo supply and color denoted health meter
Bottom screen features main action view and also switches to sub screen menus
Touch panel provides innovative gameplay variety
New battle elements using touch screen - control the knife with the stylus to slash enemies and even deflect jumping dogs
Fend off enemies - an effective maneuver for escaping an enemy's deadly clutches is to move the stylus quickly back and forth over your foe which will shake them off
Navigate sub screen menus by using either the touch screen or regular buttons
New enhanced controls
Reload function - allows players to quickly and easily refill their equipped weapons
Quick 180* turn - provides much needed agility to escape dangerous situations
Knife button - permanently mapped knife can be used at any time, reducing one item from the inventory
Microphone function - solve puzzles and even resuscitate your injured teammate by blowing into the microphone
Multiplayer network gameplay in specially created mansion map
Two to four players can play wirelessly
Vs. mode - players compete for high scores by defeating the most enemies and performing the quickest escapes
Cooperative mode - work together with others to solve puzzles, collect items and get out of the mansion

October 19, 2005: sgIP (5am)
As promised, I'm working on a TCP stack to call my own, and as for names, it just doesn't get much better than sgIP (thanks to Rusty_ in #dsdev for suggesting this name) I've spent the past day or two with my nose deep in several RFCs, and have now started to put my newfound knowledge to good use - the stack is just getting started but the design for it is quite solid. Anyway, I'll add more info here when I get it a bit more complete.
October 21, 2005: More about sgIP (5am)
Progress is continuing on sgIP - as of right now the core data/glue routines are done, the ARP system is mostly done and IP/TCP/UDP have been started. I'm too tired to continue tonight, will be back working on it when I wake up.

News from Natrium 42:
New DSes seem to be shipped with new firmware that makes current PassMe not work. Loopy figured out how to circumvent the new protection, but the exploit is DS card specific and requires SRAM in the GBA slot (i.e. GBAMP won’t work). I can probably fit in support for about four cards into a single PassMe. Also, there will be PassMes with different sets of supported games.
So what I need people to do right now is to run the attached .ds.gba on bootable DSes using different DS cards and tell me the numbers on the screen. This will help me add support for those cards.
You need to run this from a GBA flashcard without any use of DS menu loaders, since they might clear or corrupt the memory that is being searched for the exploit. Consequently, there is no .nds version of the program.
Some PassMes (or clones) are not supported, because a specific bit in the header is set, resulting in scrambled memory. This bit doesn’t affect homebrew in any way, but it makes it impossible to explore memory left over from loading a DS card. This program will tell when a PassMe (or clone) is not supported.
Please post your results here or email them to me. I will then add support for most popular games and put new PassMes up for sale.
Many thanks!
Note: This program will whitescreen for a while before showing numbers. This is normal, since searching takes some time.

ReboNDS is a puzzle/action game in which you have to fill a playgound area isolating balls. To reach the goal, you have to draw horizontal or vertical lines. Any closed area without ball inside it will be automatically filled. Hence, this game is another version of the various X-bounce, K-Bounce, Win-Bounce, and so on... Some of the graphics wre created from scratch, some others use parts of icons from the Linux world.
The current version is still under development. Sources are available for coders who are looking for ideas and solutions to problems.
Currently, highscores are again not recorder and microphone is not yet available. However, some sounds have been added and numerous bugs have been fixed. This version has been updated for the devkitARM release 17.

Guyfawkes posted this news:
A new competition has started over at the WinDS homepage for authors to create their own WinDS applications. Heres some further info:
So it's time to reveal the news I talked about some time ago. Gbawins.com is going to run a development compo! It'll be the first WinDS development compo, a compo for WinDS software only! If you plan to win a nice prize by coding, start learning the winsapi as soon as possible and you'll be ready in time to build your WinDS great app (or game)!
The compo is sponsored by NeoFlash, and they guaranteed us some cool prizes for the winners! The compo has been made possible thanks to NeoFlash, Lira Nuna (who worked hard on WinDS Devkit) and Francesco Lombardi (who made the WinDS Form Designer).
So what are you waiting for? Run to the forums and start searching for the compo rules (I'll put a beta asap), WinDS documentation and devkit and get ready to WinDS-code!
Head over to the homepage at http://www.gbawins.com/ for more information. Good luck!

funkaster posted this news:
Hi all, this is my first NDS program, and it's just a "preview" of a handwriting recognition library I'm writing (using something like grafitti), it was only a few hours of programming, but I hope you like it: it's a library to recognize gestures done with the stylus, for now, only absolutes directions (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT), but adding others is easy... The code will be up soon, just have to clean it a bit.

Ok I have come back to the DS after being bored with my PSP. I would like to know the differences and catch up on whats happened since I have been gone so I will be reading a while. However I have noticed a few things so I want to ask a few questions for clarification:
A) It seems there is more then one way to run DS Homebrew and the FAQ up did not give me the info I was looking for. It seems you can run it through either the GBA or DS Game slots. I am not 100% sure on this so some clarification would be nice.
B) I noticed there are two DS's that are said not to run Homebrew. IQue I believe it was and a Red DS I am sure I am ok on the Red color but the IQue I am not sure of. So a way to tell would be nice. Thanks. (Unless I do not have to worry about this)
C) Back to the different methods of HB. I noticed that the FAQ ref.'s the the method you choose. Implying more then one but I did not see any detail on what ways there are. So in link with above which is the pref'd and most useable method in the sense of future ability. I would assume the DS side but then I could be completely wrong and need both.
D) Which method do many of you use? And what would you recommend?
Thanks and again I checked through the FAQ but could have missed something (Many do it) But I would like to start somewhere and this is the best way I felt ^-^

Neo MultiGame Loader by Davr
Finally, after much delay, I've gotten a working multigame loader for the Nintendo DS NeoFlash flashcart. Currently, it supports Nintendo DS homebrew in the .ds.gba format, and Gameboy Advance games in the .gba format. .nds homebrew files can easily be converted to .ds.gba.
The interface is Darkain's MultiNDS loader.
1. Copy 'neoboot.bin' to your Neo Power Kit folder. (Usually C:\NEO Power Kit\)
2. Put the N.P.K in "GBA Mode" by running "GBA_Mode.bat"
3. The first time, you must remove all the contents of the NeoFlash (in order to force the loader to be added). After this, you can add or remove single games without removing everything.
4. Add either Gameboy Advance games (.gba), or Nintendo DS Homebrew in the .ds.gba format in Neo Power Kit.
5. Turn on your DS. You must use either FlashME, PassME (or one of the clones, like Magic Key) or WifiME
6. When the menu loads, if you want to play a NDS Homebrew game, press 'A' to start the game.
If you want to play a Gameboy Advance game, press the 'GBA' button on the touchscreen.
NOTE: If the NDS header can not be found, the title used will be the title shown in the NPK when you are writing the game. You can change this title by double-clicking on it. (You can not change it after it has been written to the cart, without removing it first)
TODO:
1. Make NDS header/icon reading more accurate - only works on some homebrew currently
2. Add support for .nds without loaders
3. Make the GBA games play on the screen you chose in your firmware settings. Also turn off the other screen.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that the company is aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release of its next-generation gaming console, the Revolution. Iwata also confirmed that the system will be coming out after March in 2006.
Talking about the Revolution in an interview with Nikkei Business, Iwata stated, "I can only say that it's coming out during 2006, but it will be after the current fiscal year. We hope to make it a simultaneous worldwide release as much as it's possible."
Since the current fiscal year for Nintendo ends on March 31, 2006, it means the Revolution, as predicted by analysts, will likely be released somewhere between April 1 and December 31, 2006.
When asked by Nikkei Business if he has any specific sales figure targeted for the Revolution, Iwata stated that he hopes the console will sell at least more than the GameCube, which has shipped 18.76 million units as of June.
"It [the Revolution] would be a complete failure if we didn't sell more units than the Nintendo GameCube," said Iwata.
The system's controller, which was revealed in September, was the focus of much of the console's buzz. Surprisingly, Iwata revealed to Nikkei that Nintendo's former president, Hiroshi Yamauchi, was not involved in any way with the creation of the Revolution's controller.
Iwata told Nikkei Business that the Revolution's controller uses several different types of technology, though he did not go into specifics. However, he did note that the controller can be used with any kind of monitor, even digital projectors.

Apparently, Nintendo has previously stated that all downloadable games will be stored on flash memory cards.
Strange.
We came across this patent today, filed in February 2004 and renewed only recently. Here, have a read:
"An existing video game system is modified to include additional communication and storage capability via a modem and hard disk drive. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the primary system security features are incorporated into a video game system expansion device having a hard disk drive.
"The security system does not rely on the relatively insecure video game system. The present exemplary embodiment focuses security control in a disk drive/mass media controlling engine which is physically disposed within the expansion device housing as close as possible to the hard disk drive and the downloaded video games and other data it is designed to protect. Security features are incorporated into, for example, a disk drive controlling processing engine to provide security features which extend far beyond simplistic password systems which have heretofore been utilized in conjunction with disk drive controllers.
"In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the disk controller also incorporates an encrypting engine which encrypts in accordance with a highly secure encrypting algorithm. A further level of security is provided in the illustrative embodiments by partitioning the hard drive into various partitions whose security/accessibility is tightly controlled. Each application program, e.g., a video game, has a predetermined number of private partitions, including a read only encrypted partition."
Bit long winded isn't it? Here's how we translated it:
A console will include a hard disk and communication capability (internet). It'll have a security system and the ability to download stuff onto it.
Sounds like it could be the Revolution. But might apply to the GBA or DS 2. We tried to get hold of Nintendo, but alas could not get comment at time of going to press.

source - drunken coders
sgstair has his IP stack listed at 80% complete and has this to say on the state of DS wifi:
Rudimentary IP layer has been created... so now just TCP is required to make a proper demo. Should be soon. (Yes, I know I could just as easily demo with UDP or whatnot, but I'm committed to bringing TCP, mainly because I remember the gamecube situation where for the longest time the only public code was UDP without ARP.)
Maybe it should be noted that the percentages on my list are to initial completion, until I have something to show for it.
I will very likely make the source code public on initial release, but please stay tuned as I'm not going to drop this project and will release a much more polished version not much later.

News from Lik Sang
For a plump plumber, Mario sure can boogie down. Yesterday the US version of Dance Dance Revolution with Mario arrived, and in a first for any DDR title, there's a full storyline mode where Waluigi stole the Music Keys. Without these, the unstable power of sound is wreaking havoc on the land, and Mario himself must recover them before the chaos destroys the entire Mushroom Universe! As you complete the levels, you'll unlock 12 fun filled mini games, like running as fast as possible to jump up the flag pole classic NES style, catching bananas falling from the sky, or playing Whack-A-Goomba. Another all new addition is the Gimmick setting, having you dance while at the same time avoiding (or sometimes aiming at) classic Mario obstacles on screen like Goombas, Koopas or hammers.
Players can have fun getting into shape with the special 'Workout' feature, which tracks the calories burned while playing, or dance with a friend on split screen multi-player. There's 29 different dance-flavored songs included, from classic Nintendo themes to familiar favorites. The line-up boasts those from Super Mario Bros. and others in the series, to Mario Party 5, Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash, Donkey Kong, Wario World, Paper Mario RPG, Dr Mario and much more. Full of colorful graphics bursting with unmistakable Mushroom Kingdom charisma, and with no noticeable loading (just a million "warning" screens, haha), Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix certainly has that polished Nintendo Disney-like quality. All the pre-orders have been shipped already, and new orders are welcome anytime.

News from Lik Sang
Rolling into a ball, Samus is perfectly suited to a pinball spin-off, not to mention how the vertically dual screened NDS is too. Much more than a stop gap while waiting for next year's Metroid Prime Hunters, with realistic physics and the ability to nudge the table in any direction via the touch screen, this is a great pinball title. The Metroid license however takes it all so much further, and the tables perfectly match areas you'll recognize from Metroid Prime. Fuse Games have done a stunning job with the graphics, right down to the occasional rain in the Tallon overworld table. The CD quality music is some of the best ever to come out of the NDS too, and there's more voice samples here than in all of Metroid Prime for GameCube!
The game sets a new record for multi-player fun on the NDS too, letting up to 8 people play over the wireless, with just one copy of the game! Multi Mission mode on the other hand, lets you play through and unlock new tables on your own, of which you can return to anytime in single mission mode and aim for a new high score. Enemies and bosses from Metroid Prime are also present, and in some of the thirteen mini-games, Samus will rip out of her ball and you can aim any weapons you collected around the table. Lastly, further enhancing the realism, the game comes with a free rumble pack inside a GBA style cartridge, which while a bit noisy, works well. This can then later be used in Metroid Prime Hunters and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. Nintendo also announced the GBA slot will be used for many other NDS accessories to come, and we look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Zi Corporation has announced a licensing agreement with Nintendo that will allow developers to make use of handwriting recognition. PDAs have been offering handwriting recognition for some time and with the DS's touch screen it seemed inevitable that the console would eventually gain handwriting recognition technology. An agreement between Zi Corporation and Nintendo means that DS developers will be able to utilise Zi Decuma handwriting recognition technology when creating software for the handheld

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that a simultaneous global launch is planned for the Revolution, confirming that the console will not launch before March 2006.
Speaking to Nikkei Business, Iwata said: "I can only say that it's coming out during 2006, but it will be after the current fiscal year."
"We hope to make it a simultaneous worldwide release as much as it's possible."
Iwata did not offer any specific sales targets for the Revolution, but did state that it was imperative that the number of consoles sold was higher than the number of GameCubes sold - a figure which currently stands at 18.76 million.
"[Revolution] would be a complete failure if we didn't sell more units than the Nintendo GameCube," Iwata said.
He went on to talk about the Revolution's innovative new "freestyle" controller, revealed at the Tokyo Game Show last month. Perhaps suprisingly, Iwata revealed that former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi had no involvement whatsoever with the controller's development.
Iwata confirmed that the controller makes use of a variety of new technologies, although he declined to give details, and that it can be used with any type of television or digital projector.

The Nintendo DS handheld console has added handwriting recognition to its impressive arsenal of unique features, with a deal being announced this week with Zi Corporation to bring the Decuma handwriting technology to the platform.
This will enable developers of DS games to integrate handwriting recognition into their games - and not just in English, either, since the Decuma system supports not only the Roman alphabet but also traditional and simplified Chinese, and the Japanese hiragana, katakana and kanji alphabets.
Although no actual products have been announced that use the system, the technology deal is very significant since it opens the doors for game developers to use the system as they see fit in their products.
"As the leading provider of handheld video game systems in the world, Nintendo has a reputation for adopting innovative technologies that improve the user's experience with its products," explained Zi Corporation's CTO Milos Djokovic.
"With Decuma, Nintendo DS users will experience natural handwriting recognition previously only available to PDA and smartphone users. Zi continues to bring its multi-modal input products to leading mobile phones, gaming platforms and smartphones across the globe."
One obvious use for the handwriting recognition technology is in the "Brain Training" series of software products for the Nintendo DS, which provide a range of logic and intelligence based trials and have proved enormously popular in Japan since their launch last summer.

Well, since we just hit you with the totally and completely unconfirmed rumor of a Spring ‘06 launch for the PS3, we might as well go full out and throw in another completely unconfirmed date: Nintendo Revolution in June of 2006. SPOnG News is reporting this one, and they seem rather confident, claming multiple sources have confirmed the date. Supposedly, Nintendo is shooting for launching the console in Japan, the United States, and Europe all in June, with Europe possibly spilling over into July. SPOnG is also pretty confident on $200 for the US launch price, but, just like pretty much everything in this report, nothing is official.

Epic Games VP Mark Rein has unleashed stinging attacks on the Nintendo Revolution controller, the PS3 prototype controller and rivals Activision and Electronic Arts.
Speaking at an IGN Live event about the 'freestyle' controller, Mark Rein told the audience: "Don't kid yourself - you're going to see more gimmicky, crappy, cheap, I-wish-I-hadn't-bought-it gimmick games based around that controller than you can ever possibly imagine.
"I guarantee you there's going to be lots of people who say the whole reason for this game is this controller, we made the perfect game for the controller. And all it'll be is about the controller, and not necessarily a great game."
That said, Rein continued, "Nintendo, you know, is going to make amazing games. I mean that's a given." Rein then conducted a quick audience survey to find out how many people present owned a GameCube - and found that rather a large number of hands were raised.
He then asked everyone who also owned a PS2 or Xbox to put their hands down - and concluded that under ten per cent of the audience were Cube owners only.
"Hard to make a business on less than 10 per cent," Rein said.
When asked if he could envisage an FPS controller that might beat the classic mouse and keyboard combination, Rein replied: "I could, but it's not the Nintendo Revolution controller... Didn't you see when Iwata-san held it up? The two controllers are the little wand controller and the other one is a joystick - and it's a joystick with a bunch of ribs under it.
"Remember the one that nearly destroyed your thumb on the Dreamcast, and on the N64 remember how after you played a game for a couple of hours you had to suck your thumb for a month? It's that kind of controller."
Another developer on the panel argued that the Revolution controller would indeed suit FPS games perfectly, but Rein stuck to his guns. Holding up an Xbox 360 pad, to whoops and cheers from the audience, he proclaimed: "This is the Xbox 360 controller, and there's nothing wrong with it.
"It works just fine for playing games, and it works fine for first-person shooter games, as evidenced by the fact that they sold more first-person shooters on consoles than anybody's ever sold on PCs."
Rein wouldn't be drawn on which next-generation console he prefers, telling the crowd: "Both of the next-generation consoles are great machines. They both have lots of power and they both have lots of memory... I don't think anybody's going to be disappointed with either of them."
With "either" and "both", Rein was referring to the Xbox 360 and PS3 - he said the Revolution didn't count since "most developers know nothing about the Nintendo system. They haven't gone and announced specs so I can't say.
"If you read the rumours apparently it's a great machine, but nobody really knows yet."
But as powerful as the PS3 may be, Rein is no fan of its controller, either - at least as far as the prototype's concerned.
"I don't think anybody knows what the PlayStation 3 controller looks like," he said.
"I think we all sure as hell pray like hell it's not that stupid-looking thing they showed at E3."
Rein also took the opportunity to take a potshot at his biggest rivals - who he claims are being far too grandiose when it comes to developing next-gen games.
"I've heard EA and Activision make absolutely ridiculous statements about, 'Oh, it's going to take 30 million dollars to make a game and we need 300 people - that's just a bunch of bullsh--.
"They're just covering up for their own management and incompetence. Or mismanagement I should say.
"Our team size is only about 50 per cent higher than it was last generation, and we're making fantastic games. Gears of War [Epic's forthcoming Xbox 360 title] is only about 25 people, and that's smaller than most current-generation game teams."

Eidos Interactive today announced that Lego Star Wars is now available for the GameCube. The game was previously released for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, PC, and Game Boy Advance last spring. Traveller's Tales (Crash Twinsanity) once again handled the game's development. Lego Star Wars is rated E for Everyone and retails for $29.99.
The game is set during the first three chapters of the sci-fi film franchise, and includes characters, environments, and scenarios featured in the movies with one difference--the game's universe is made entirely of Legos. There are 30 characters each with their own strengths, and a two-player cooperative mode allows two gamers to battle the forces being manipulated by the Dark Side.

*Option explanation*
Data Reading:
These are 2 different data reading code for the

Sram Patch:
If your DS is the old one that support
normal passme, use the default one (save to 0A000000)

Ys Strategy for the Nintendo DS was first announced last month, but details on it were scarce. Thankfully, the latest issue of Famitsu sheds a little more light on Marvelous Interactive's new departure for the venerable series of role-playing games.
As the name suggests, Ys Strategy strays from the series' action role-playing game roots in favor of a focus on real-time strategy. The storyline also deviates from the series' past formula. This time around, players won't be taking on a diabolical enemy as the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Instead they'll be thrown in the midst of a major war between the nations of Ys.
The series' main character Adol might sit this one out as well, as players will take control of Abel Lenford, a mercenary swordsman in the employ of one of the warring nations. However, Abel suffers from amnesia, and similarities in name, costume, and trademark red hair suggest there will be some connection between the two.
Ys Strategy uses the DS's top screen to display an overview map and a menu of the player's remaining resources. The bottom map is used for the main game screen, where the player issues commands to units on the field with the stylus. Some old-time Ys fans might not be used to RTS games, so the developer is including tutorials and advice functions to lower the learning curve for strategy game novices.
The touch screen and stylus aren't the only DS features that Ys Strategy makes use of. In addition to allowing local wireless multiplayer matches, the game also supports the Nintendo Wi-Fi service. Ys Strategy is slated for release in Japan during spring of 2006 by Marvelous Interactive.

A new version of the Gamecube emulator Dolphin has been released! Since talk is cheap let me just quote what Knuckles wrote about this version in This Thread.
This is right, I've got the permission from FiRES to release the latest beta of Dolphin. This version is classified as an open beta, development on the emulator has already been stopped for a good while now and since there is no work in sight, this version is getting released.
I know a lot of people were waiting for it and there it is. It's still buggy, not compatible with a lot of games, slow and all but it's still better than the previous one.
What's new in this one:
-Improved Audio plugin
-improved Dolphin default input plugin
-Added Falcon4ever's nJoy 0.2 input plugin (recommended)
-Added Memory card support
-----slot 1 & 2, 2MB ones are inserted by default, can't be changed,
-----WARNING: if you format your memcard with an US game, you will be only able to use it with US games (same goes for EUR and JAP ones)
-Better recompiler compatibility and stability
that's all I can remember of the changes....
Enjoy

Famicom Wars blazes onto Nintendo GameCube with a platoon of real-time strategy (RTS) action. Whether players are hoofing it across the plains as a lone infantryman or commanding an entire platoon from atop an armored tank, the challenge is real and the mission is critical. Command forces in the heat of battle, but beware: clever enemy AI will adapt to every move. Hop behind the wheel of multiple attack vehicles, such as jeeps, tanks, helicopters, airborne gunships, fighter jets, transports and more. Take the fight to foes with a massive arsenal of weapons such as rifles, bazookas, flamethrowers, machine guns, mortars, rocket launchers and many others. Countries will rise or fall based on players' tactics, and guiding troops has never been easier. Want to station forces on a ridge? Send a scout team to spy on the enemy? Charge headlong into the breach? Famicom Wars lets players do it all at the touch of a button.

The Nintendo DS edition of Viewtiful Joe features a brand new storyline introducing Joe's sister Jasmine and puts players to the task in saving Captain Blue's Hollywood show after a sinister group steals it away. The Nintendo DS' hardware will be put to use as the development team is bringing to life the familiar cel-shaded environment the series is known for. The two screens will keep track of the action in two viewpoints and the touch panel is used to solve puzzles and pull off special moves. A new "Power Split" move debuts here, which requires that you draw lines across the screen.

News from C&VG
We love Mario Kart. The diehards whinged that Double Dash was a blaspheme against the series' roots, but we loved the utterly unfair at time co-op whacky races action. Oh the joy. Sod the diehards - it ruled.
Since we found out about the track remixes from all the past Mario Kart games too, we've been *even more* excited about the up coming DS game... if that's even possible.
Anyway, let's cut to the chase. Here's a selection of videos from Nintendo's very first online Mario Kart title out in Europe this November for the DS. Don't forget - you can play LAN multiplayer with 8 players and when the online dongle comes out (big online-related announcement coming next week apparently so stay tuned for that), you'll be able to plug into a game with three other Kart enthusiasts from anywhere in the world. Except maybe third-world countries as they don't have proper/any internet.
Of course, if you don't have enough friends Nintendo suggests that you could always hire in some Escorts*, as they'll be anyone's friend for a price. Or just set the multiplayer characters to 'com' controlled. But of course, that would be boring.
Till the game's out, have a gander at the videos we've enclosed. We're sure you'll agree that they're rather lovely indeed.
Check out the 4 videos here --> http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=128344

While the 8-bit and 16-bit Final Fantasy games have proven to be popular fodder for rereleases on the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation, and WonderSwan Color, the 1990 Famicom game Final Fantasy III (not to be confused with the Super Famicom Final Fantasy VI, released on the US SNES as Final Fantasy III) has for years eluded a remake. However, it's about to lose that distinction, as Square Enix is readying a DS conversion of a game most American Final Fantasy fans have never had a chance to play.
The latest issue of Famitsu contains new details on the game's development in an interview with executive producer Hiromichi Tanaka. Tanaka is best known as the head honcho of the Final Fantasy XI development team, but he's also an old-time Square staffer who worked on many of the early Final Fantasy home console games, including FFIII.
Tanaka was heavily involved in the original game's development as one of its three planners, together with Hironobu Sakaguchi and Kazuhiko Aoki. Tanaka commented to Famitsu that he plans to be very hands-on in seeing the DS project through to proper completion, especially since the members working on the remake are different from the staff that worked on the original.
Tanaka also addressed why it took so long for the game to be remade. Despite it being a Famicom game developed by a team of about 10 people, Tanaka said FFIII used some complicated programming techniques that couldn't be ported to other handheld gaming machines until now.
Tanaka added that having gone so long without a port, gamers will be getting to experience a vastly upgraded FFIII. For one thing, the developers are remaking the DS version with 3D graphics--sort of. Tanaka said that the game will actually use "virtual" 3D graphics so its maps can't be rotated around, but the camera can still be zoomed in to show details. The characters in FFIII are being overhauled for style, as well as technology. While the original four main heroes in the Famicom version looked like quadruplets thanks to reused character graphics, the DS version will have different models for each of them.
The visuals aren't the only thing being updated in the DS version. In the original Famicom release, the four main characters didn't have any personalities of their own. But with the DS remake, Tanaka will give different characteristics to each of them, which will have an impact on the game's storyline. There will also be fixes in the job system's balance so that gamers will have more freedom to choose how to fight in the game.
Finally, FFIII will take advantage of the DS hardware, including the touch screen. In fact, Tanaka said that he plans to make the game completely playable with just the stylus. FFIII will also make use of the DS's wireless capabilities, although the game's main mode will still be a single-player affair. Tanaka didn't go into specifics on how it would use the system's wireless features, except to say he wanted to give people a bonus so they could enjoy the game with friends.

Famitsu magazine has spilled the beans on the various game modes that will be featured in the DS remake, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. The single-player campaign includes two modes: Rebirth & Retro. Rebirth will feature touch screen controls and smarter zombies. Unlike the original, players will have quick access to the knife and can also reload without entering the inventory menu. Rebirth will also include new traps. Retro, of course, is the original Resident Evil in all its glory—no stylus support.
Deadly Silence will also feature two wireless multiplayer modes. Co-op will challenge players to work in tandem to defeat a horde of zombies; while Versus awards the player that has killed the most zombies in a round. Wi-Fi support (via Nintendo’s wireless network) has not been confirmed. Deadly Silence will be released in Japan in January.

Cross has done a review of the game Lunar Dragon Song Review, heres some info about the game:
Discover the events prior to Lunar: Silver Star Story in this role playing game for Nintendo DS featuring three new characters. Battle the forces of evil and transform Dark creatures into Light with the new Light and Dark system. Augment the abilities of your party via Battle Cards, and then exchange cards over wireless LAN with your friends.
The game takes place 1,000 years before Lunar Silver Star Story and follows Gien Campbell, a 15-year-old delivery boy. Gien receives a delivery request to the town of Heelritz, a town of half-beasts. Although it's a place Gien has dreamed of, he finds out the dreamland is far from perfect.
Lunar lets you move around the map by simply tapping a point on the touch screen. Battles in the game use both screens to show grounded and airborn enemies. The game also feature controls dictated to the built-in microphone.

Heres an excerpt from the review:
There is a clock and area setup. You can still see the bad guys but when experiance mode you are timed and shown how many bad guys there are (but not where they are). If you beat all of them in an area before the click goes all the way around you get 30% HP/MP restored and access to a Blue Chest with a special item in it. All and all this s not hard but you must be in experiance mode and you must beat them all. Every time the timer makes a full rotation one enemy reappears.

Currently, highscores are again not recorder. However, microphone is finally available. If you blow enough in the microphone or if you speek strong enough, then it will cancel the possible line currently drawn, just in cas you notice that the line will be cut by a ball I wil generalize the use of the microphone in the cases where ther eis only one possible action (like, end the highscores view...)
Sounds have been added and numerous bugs have been fixed. This version has been updated for the devkitARM release 17.

Hi all,
I'm a total noob to the DS Homebrew scene .....
This is what i've worked out, can somebody confirm???
SuperPassKey = Used with a commercial game, bypasses a security check???
Supercard = Shove your SD card in there to play homebrew etc.
SD Card = Storage for Homebrew etc.
Card Reader = Used to put stuff onto SD Card.
That's what i think everything is for, am i right?!
Also, i've heard that only certain DS's can play the Supercard etc. How can you tell if the DS can play it or not?!?!?!?
Finally, is there more than one type of Supercard, which should i get?!
Once more thing, is there anything else i need?!
Thx, please help, 03.

When Mario Kart DS launches on November 25, it will be a landmark moment in the history of the hit series, as it’s the first Mario Kart to be playable online.
It’s all thanks to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection - the new service launching in November that lets you race, battle and compete with players across the world.
To explain what Wi-Fi Connection is and what it means for the future of Nintendo gaming, we’ve put together the following Frequently Asked Questions…
What is Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?
The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection allows you to play games over the internet, either at home or at an internet hotspot, using a Nintendo DS and a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection compatible Nintendo DS game.
What do I need to access it?
To play Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection compatible games on your Nintendo DS at home over the internet, you must have a wireless access point, like a wireless router, and an active broadband internet connection.
If you do not have a wireless access point, you can purchase a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (available November 25 for around £30) which plugs into a PC and automatically sets up a connection for you.
You can also play at special Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Access Points in stores and also at Wi-Fi hotspots around the country.
What are these ‘hotspots’?
A hotspot is generally a public location that offers wireless connection to the internet. Nintendo has partners throughout Europe to provide free Wi-Fi access in many of their hotspot locations; also Nintendo will offer free hotspots in many retail locations. More details about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Access Points and hotspots will be revealed soon.
Does it cost anything?
Using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is free. You only pay your normal internet connection charges. (In the future, it’s possible that games publishers other than Nintendo could charge to play their games online via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.)
Who can I play with?
In Mario Kart DS, you can take part in online races with up to three other people, in four different modes: Friends, Rivals, Continental and Worldwide.
Friends lets you race against people you know, Rivals pits you against people with similar skills, Continental lets you choose players from your region (in this case Europe) and Worldwide lets you race against any Mario Kart DS owners in the world.
How do the Friends and Rivals modes work?
Nintendo’s unique new Friend Roster enables players to play online with their friends. All you need to do is set up a Friend Code by swapping a number with your friend, they will then be added to your Friend Roster and you can select to play with them online anytime, anywhere. Alternatively you can play with someone of a similar skill level. This is done seamlessly via Nintendo’s servers through the use of a skill mapping system to ensure the environment is open to users of all ages and skill levels.
What games can I play online?
The following games have been announced as featuring online play with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:
Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land (Activision) - November 18
Mario Kart DS (Nintendo) - November 25
Animal Crossing DS (Nintendo) - Release date to be confirmed
Metroid Prime Hunters (Nintendo) - Release date to be confirmed
Where can I find out more?
More details about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, including the location of Wi-Fi hotspots, will be announced soon.

News from the Official DSemu site (nintendo ds emu for windows)
While I was hacking on the ARM9 extensions to the ARM core, I thought there was an awful lot of duplicated code (indeed, the whole of the ARM7 was a subset of the new ARM9 source). So I decided to seperate out the common components. I now have data-processing, load-store and the ARM9-specific extensions, each within a seperate source file. It makes compilation so much quicker.
The ARM9 currently supports most of the Enhanced DSP: double-word load/stores, saturated word addition and subtraction, and saturated halfword multiplication. 48-bit multiply is yet to come. However, something that's a glaring omission right now is the coprocessor facility; it's entirely missing.
In testing, the new ARM9 core simply swaps out with the ARM7 by changing a line in plugins.ini; plugins rock. ARMwrestler9 reports all green (apart, of course, from that pesky coprocessor operation). So, I'll probably pick up copros, and the system copro #15, very soon.
As ever, you can grab the source to the current build:

In other news, well done to Stephen Stair on accomplishing milestone 1 of the DS Wifi Bounty; we all hope to see not just the completion of the other milestones, but a wifi driver for that newfangled DSLinux toy, real soon now.

A spanish website called Meristation carried out an interview with Nintendo frontman Jim Merrick recently, in which he landed several punches against Sony and Microsoft’s efforts in the next-gen console war. In the interview, Jim addressed one question that has been in the back of the minds of many a Nintendo fan. How good will the graphics be with the Nintendo Revolution?
The answer: a “difference will not exist” between the Revolution and its competitors in terms of graphical ability. This statement is clearly an attempt to reassure Nintendo fans peeking at Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 screenshots and videos floating around online. Now how about Nintendo releases some content so we can judge the “big-three” consoles for ourselves?

BusinessWeek recently scored an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto—a man that needs little introduction here on Joystiq. Miyamoto again emphasized Nintendo’s goal for the Revolution: “I want families to play video games together.” Hence the TV remote-like design of the controller—an object that everyone is familiar with; an object that people won’t be urged to “stash away.”
Is it possible that family-style gaming will become a hallmark of the future? Is anyone considering a Revolution purchase in an effort to connect with the kids? Any kids thinking of using the Revolution to encourage the folks to start gaming more?

We don’t know too much about this simulation-style golf game coming out in Japan soon, but it could be a contender—if the video’s narrator is justified in his enthusiasm for it.
But, wait, did we hear something English in the Japanese voice over concerning wireless download play for 4 DSes?
If you haven’t been impressed with the Tiger Woods visuals for the DS up to this point, this could be an interesting title to try.

There is interesting chatter consuming our friends in Japan this morning, with talk of an early and somewhat low-key showing of the Mario game currently underway for the Nintendo Revolution.
A Nintendo-focused set of keynote addresses has been organised for December 2 in Kyoto at Ritsumeikan University. Part of the Digital Interactive Entertainment Conference 2005, the National Symposium about videogames will see a 30 minute address from Shigeru Miyamoto.
Several well-known independent sources contacted SPOnG to tell us that they had been hearing gossip for some days which pointed towards some sort of Mario showing at the university event.
Of course, this is to be treated strictly as an unconfirmed rumour for now. We’ll keep digging and try and bring you confirmation from a party close to Nintendo in the coming week or so.

Initially speaking about Nintendo's wi-fi service, Merrick laid bare Nintendo's plans to set up 25,000 wireless hotspots throughout Europe, empowering gamers to run free through the city streets whilst partaking in a heated game of Mario Kart DS.
Some rare Revolution details were also offered in the interview, such as reaffirming that graphically a "difference will not exist" between the console and its competitors. According to Merrick, Nintendo hopes to launch Revolution in all territories within a 14 week period.
Merrick additionally had good news regarding Revolution's retro download service. Apparently, old titles will have improved frame rates, while being available to users from any region, so Europeans can finally enjoy overseas-only titles such as Nintendo's Sin & Punishment, without any import related mischief.
Unfortunately, we cannot expect to be wowed by any Revolution titles this side of Christmas. "We want to wait until everything is ready, and when we show the Revolution's titles for the first time, they will be playable with the final system," said Merrick. "Miyamoto doesn't like to show incomplete games".
