You are a ninja in N+. Your god-like speed, dexterity, jumping power, and reflexes are all the result of an amazingly fast metabolism; sadly, so is your natural lifespan of 1.5 minutes.
Like all Ninjas, you have an unquenchable thirst for gold and a natural propensity for exploring rooms infested by increasingly lethal Ninja-killing robots. N emphasizes pacifism, humility, and the need to traverse 5 rooms before the end of your lifetime; a feat known only as ‘beating an episode’.
In accordance with the teachings of N, it is your profound hope that one day you will develop your platforming skills, intelligence, and inexplicable ability to reincarnate to achieve total mastery of all 300 levels.

Eidos has given its Gauntlet DS game a launch window of October.
It's the same top-down affair you'd expect, with zombie swarms attacking in their numbers over 40 maps across three realms.
As well as the facelift, the new game also packs co-op and competitive multiplayer modes that work both locally and over the internet, and a full ranking system that tracks your performance. It also allows for voice chat during games, so you can shout "IN YOUR FACE" at your opponents.
I recently returned to development, yes, this beautiful world I missed (friends, etc. ..)...
Good things turn serious () ..
So I suggest a very first version of my new project, Vocabulario DS: The Spanish a hand (or Spanish in pocket ..), which is similar to my old project, Latinus DS, except Spanish. My goal is that for my Bac at the end of the year, I have all my Spanish in my pocket .. (not to cheat lol ... to revise course!)
This version is really for me revive ... There is just the menu and "The Present indicative for regular verbs ...
01/09/08 Version 0.2:
_ Adding a Menu
_ Adding vocabulary on the human body
_ Correction bug
I was initially going to release the super-quick "Just the editor, and a few levels" version, but as I sorted a few bugs, more and more of the game got fixed as well, and then I added the whole main menu, and things started to take a more "proper" form.. so..
JNKPlat DS 08
The Download
JNKPlat DS 08 : Complete with dldi version and non-dldi version. (.sc.nds/.ds.gba/.nds for each)
Shove it in the root, DLDI it if necessary, and add the JNKPlat folder for your saves.
Enjoy, complain, rant and rave.
The Game
A simple puzzle platform game. Get to the exit to complete each level.
Be aware, though.. This game is more a Puzzle game than it is a Platformer. There are many weird grid-based things that are leftovers from that style. Most noticable is Platdude's very specific Jump. One up, Three across.
The Blue Circles (Super Precious Gems!!) are collectable. You don't need them, but there's a total on the main menu. Get 'em all, and you get to say "I got 'em all!"
The Controls
There's two jump buttons, and a hold button.
The hold button, B, can be used to dangle from hooks, vines and red floors. It can also be used to drag red boxes.
The two jump buttons, Y and A, jump left and right respectively. It's easy once you try. If you really dislike it, you can switch to single button jump on the main menu, but I wouldn't recommend it! Some things happen too quickly to stop and turn around!
The Level Packs
Level packs can contain many many levels, but each level must be played in the order layed out in the pack.
No saves! If you die 3 times, you're right back at the start.
The Editor
Tap the middle icon on the titlescreen to enter the editor.
Draw a level.
Hold a trigger, and a Wipe/Quit and Test button appear at the bottom. If you test a level, and subsequently complete it, and you can then also Save it from this same Trigger-based menu. Note : You can only save a level if you've managed to complete it! You don't need all the gems, but you do need to get to the exit.
The level will be added as a simple line of ascii text, to the bottom of the JNKPlat/MyLevs.lev file on your card (assuming you're using the DLDI version, and have added the JNKPlat folder to the root.)
Each line is it's own level. Feel free to copy+paste these lines to build up your own little level packs.
The Request
If you make any levels, send 'em my way! The next release should be ready in a couple of weeks time. (or maybe before, if I get plenty of levels!)
You've seen this animation a hundred times. At least. The point is, you can ignore the animation part of this release. I've released this because of some strange things I've seen happening here as well as in PolyTouch. From the known bug list of Qix:
- Has a similar graphics-memory problem like PolyTouch.
- when you start Qix, you should immediately see a cyan dot
pattern. This pattern is not supposed to be there.
- if you set the left limiter to 32 or higher values, the dot
pattern disappears
- if you set the lower limiter to exactly 160, the whole
screen is filled with cyan lines -- nothing else can be
seen.
I have released version 0.1alpha3 of my first real project for the DS.
It is called DSwiki, and it is an offline viewer for the wikipedia or all other wikis which are based on the mediawiki framework.
More instructions on the installation und usage can be found in the README below. Two images are attached, the first showing a normal wiki article, the second showing the very good Unicode support.
Please test DSwiki and give me some feedback.
Have Fun!

DSwiki (v0.1alpha3)
=====================
DSwiki is an offline viewer for Wiki markup, for example for the
Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wiktionaries, ...
DSwiki is NOT a web browser!
Why DSwiki?
=============
DSwiki is optimal for all people with a Nintendo DS that like to
have their information "portable", but cannot access the Internet
directly. So far, no Program was very good in displaying the
Wikipedia on the DS. NewDictS can display an uncompressed dump, but
this dump is outdated, and the Wikipedia has grown dramatically
since then, so compression was absolutely necessary. In addition,
most homebrew programs can't handle UTF-8.
DSwiki is based on

Features
==========
-- Get the complete(!) Wikipedia on a Nintendo DS. The English language
edition fits on a 4GB storage device, the German edition is just 1.1GB.
-- Quite good handling of internal links. Alternative display text
and appended letters are supported to create the same look as
in the online version.
-- Very good Unicode/UTF8-Support (as much - or as little - as the
underlying font covers)
-- A cache to navigate quickly the history of visited pages
Planned Features
==================
-- Much better markup display
-- Bookmarks
-- Improved Search (advanced input)
-- Navigation by document structure (jump to headlines or
jump from link to link as in text browsers)
-- "Find as you type" inside an article
-- Memory saving font handling, switching between fonts on the fly
-- Customization
Use
=====
At the moment DSwiki can't do more than display mostly unformatted
wiki markup of articles (but word and line breaks and a proportional
font make it easy readable).
DSwiki works as follows:
A random article will be loaded at the start.
Up/Down: Scroll one line backward/forward
Left/Right: Scroll one page backward/forward
Stylus: Follow a link on the bottom screen
L/R: Go one page back/forward in history
A: Go to another random article
X: Index-assisted search on/off
Articles names (no unicode yet) can be entered
on the keyboard.
Touching the red button clears the input field.
The D-Pad navigates through the index.
The current highlighted article name can be loaded
either by
* touching the green button
* pressing A
* touching Enter on the virtual keyboard
Installation
==============
1. Copy DSwiki.nds somewhere on your flash card, DLDI-patch it if
necessary.
2. Create dumps of your favorite wiki or download already prepared ones.
Visit <http://code.google.com/p/dswiki/wiki/Dumps> for a list.
3. Copy dewiki.ao1, dewiki.ao2, dewiki.dbz, dewiki.idx and dewiki.ifo
into the root directory of your flash card.
IMPORTANT: These names are fixed at the moment, so use them
anyway, even if you want to use a different language/wiki.
Thanks to DS Scene for pointing my attention to the Homebrew Bounty over at GBA Temp, i can honestly say i disregarded it but now i know its a monthly comp ill post everything
FretFury is a homebrew in the making that utilizes the Guitar Grip that comes with Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS. If you don't have the Guitar Grip, there is a version where you use the Y,X,B,A buttons!
the current version is V1.1. Fretfury promises in a later version to have the ability to add your own songs, change the sprites, and possibly even multiplayer.
Speed! is a port of an old Amiga game. It's a first-person racer - the goal is to just run through a maze as fast as possible. The original really never made it past a demo, so there is only one level. It is, however, a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. Lots of practice is required for good times!
Legion is a top-view 3D shooter set in a post-apocalyptic universe comparable to that of the Fallout series. It is both playable online with 3 other players and offline, as there is a very complete story going through 12 different levels in which you'll be killing bad guys, bosses, driving vehicles...
I'm glad to present here an updated version of the one I submitted to the Neo Compo, I hope you'll enjoy it.
For those who are wondering, it's labelled "preview" because there's still much more level elements and 3D engine improvements to be added which already on my to-do list. I wanted to release the current version as I'm not sure when it will be finished...
If you have some ideas or suggestions on how to improve my game, don't hesitate I'll also gladly accept user-made levels to include them in new scenarios.
Quick presentation: Marble is a complete remake of the classic wood labyrinth game, in full 3D (both screen) with realistic physics, mp3 music, on-DS visual level editor and more...
Features:
- Physics engine, with realistic collision simulation
- Full 3D on both screens, either as one big screen or with 2 different views
- Skybox to simulate 360° environment
- Advanced 3D effects: point light simulation, projected shadows, motion blur...
- Full MP3 music & 3D sounds
- Special bonuses and scenery effects (let's try this mushroom...)
- Integrated (on DS) full featured 3D level editor
- High score & progression saving
- 25 levels, with various environment and progressive difficulty (6 differents scenarios)
- Full motion sensor support
How to play:
- Motion sensor : just tilt the DS, and the board will tilt the same way (DON'T FORGET TO CALIBRATE YOUR MOTION SENSOR CORRECTLY WHEN PROMPTED!)
- Stylus : Hold the stylus down on the center on the screen, then slightly move in the desired direction to tilt the board. When the pressure is released, the board will come back to a flat position.
Press select at anytime to save a screenshot in .bmp format (the game will freeze for a short time during the file write).
How to install:
1. Copy the "marble" folder found in the archive in the root of your flashcard.
2. Copy the file "marble.nds" (or "marble.ds.gba" if your flashcard doesn't work with .nds files) on your flashcard.
Do the next step only if you encounter problems running the homebrew or have the "error initializing file system" message on loading.
3. Apply the DLDI patch corresponding to your flashcard on the "marble.nds" file.
Go to http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/ for the patches and instructions on how to do it.
- 29/08/08 : Version Preview 2

Hello friends and fellow consumers of Kikkoman Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce.
STOP AT 500 is a classic game that is wonderfully remade in this new classic, STOP AT 500 for the Nintendo DS. Featuring nostalgic console-like graphics, this game will provide addicting, hours of enjoyment to come. The objective of STOP AT 500 is simple. Simply press the touch screen when the counter reaches exactly 500. If you pressed the counter and it stops at 500, congratulations! You are the winner. If the counter is under or over 500, though, you lose.
Although the objective is simple, the achieving of this goal is difficult to master, because of the fast nature of the counter. This puzzle will endlessly confuse you as you are addicted to the game, constantly attempting to find a better way to reach exactly 500. For the Nintendo DS, the game has been remade to use the unique feature of the Nintendo DS - the touch screen. To all who download this game, enjoy! And please vote for me as the homebrew bountry winner. I will be sure to buy lots of Kikkoman Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce.
Hi all
Inside the Machine is an NDS platform game. In the game, you control an animal (a mix between a cat and a rabbit ). The story begin in the nature and after, you'll have to get out the body of a monster
Controls : B : Jump - A : Attack - X : Throw Fireballs - Y : Run
For Slot-1 linkers use .nds file and for Slot-2 linkers, une .sc.nds or .ds.gba files.
Neko DS (Neko being the Japanese word for cat) is a port of an old PC application back from the 80's. When run, you would have a cat on your screen who would chase your mouse cursor around, scratch on the screen, take a nap and various other stuff.
Since this application has always been very close to my heart, I decided to try and port this to the DS.
This is only a very simple beginning of what I intend to end of with, but fully functional none the less. In the future I want to have the sprites incorporated into the NDS via EFS, have the user being able to choose between different Nekos from EFS and FAT, and perhaps as a last update be able to have several Nekos running around on the screen.
I hope you will enjoy this application as much as I have over the years.

I have been talking to smealum on IRC and he showed a video of a FPS demo that he has produced. Plans are in place to now take the demo to the next step and develop it into a full game. He has also said that this will not be for at least 6 months so don't pester too much.
The "game" is extremely basic, with not much to see. Eventually I would hope to gather a bunch of good touching scenes from other games and combine them all into one big fapathon.
File should be attached!
Also, I'm having trouble finding reasonable uncensored hentai games to rip so if anybody knows some names I should look up, please tell!

Okay so this is just the first day of the game and doesn't really "show" anything but I figured I would release it anyways to show how progress has been going. The game is entirely controlled by the stylus; button control is not yet supported. As this is an early version, I have prepared both the complete demo as well as a version without sound. Of course, if you skip the sound you skip half the experience, but I think that's acceptable at this early stage.
When you get to the end of the first day, the game won't proceed any further, it will simply loop back to where it was before. This is not an error, that's the way the code is designed to work. Since the game's not complete yet, there isn't anything else to run so it just loops back.

Info: Trying to make a little engine here for a touch game like doki doki shipan. I decided to port Ohiru Nayanko, a Kemono Club flash game, but slightly different. Instead of making it the same game I am using it to build an engine similar to the doki doki shipan engine (witch check mode).

Jeffrey Steefel, executive producer for Lord of the Rings: Online recently spoke to Eurogamer about the game's upcoming expansion and its future in the MMO market. One thing he mentions is the challenge of designing an MMO for consoles, which have a larger player base than PC games. He admits that UI development would be a huge issue, but also thinks MMOs could benefit from splitting tasks between various devices.
"Long term, for me, the real exciting vision is ... thinking about a game, a franchise, as this centralised content. There's this thing called Lord of the Rings that sits on a bunch of servers ... and whether you're on your PC, your console, your mobile device, those are all just access points, and they're all good at different things. ... The console is great for fast action, immediate activities. Combat, raids, things like that could be a lot of fun sitting on your couch. And some things that are necessary but slightly rote and boring, like managing your inventory or setting up for a raid, or some elements of crafting — those are things that you can do instead of playing Bejeweled when you're sitting on the train or on a break or whatever it happens to be."
1Up has a feature discussing where the line should be drawn when it comes to game addiction. The author speaks to researcher Neils Clark about some of the common characteristics of addiction, and how the high level of immersion in many modern games contributes to the mind's ability to drown out mundane tasks. We've discussed game addiction many times over the past several years. Quoting:
"If we're not all dribbling addicts, then why are we playing so much? Clark puts this down to a theory proposed by The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien — primary and secondary worlds. The primary world is our own real life. The secondary is the fictional world: literature, film, videogames, and so on. 'It used to be that the imagery and artistic intent had to be fully available before you could really "find" yourself in a written story,' Clark says. 'Immersion has progressed to the point where entering a world [inside a game] is almost automatic. At the point we're at, playing healthy not only means understanding immersion but [also] recognizing that these secondary worlds are designed to be more fulfilling than the primary. Learning to balance them is its own technology. It's something that humankind is in a process of developing, even if on a subconscious level for most gamers.'"
The NDS simulation RPG is a sequel to the highly acclaimed Xbox360 game, Blue Dragon.
Blue Dragon Plus takes place a year after the ending of its predecessor and therefore provides answers to some questions left over and wrapped up lose ends, and not to mention, more shadows.
As your chances for adventures increased, so does the number allies, powers and enemies. The idea of the shadow control system is further developed in this sequel, giving you more opportunities to mix and match skills.
With all the special Shadow skills and exciting party battles, have a towel ready when you play this game as you don't want your DS to slip from your grip because of the sweat from your palms.
SuccessHK have reduced the price of their DS Lites down to $152 (around Ł75) only really of interest to people who cant get a certain colour from the country they live in.
Datel have posted details on a new Homebrew and More cart for DS, Lets hope its better than recent creations
Action Replay DS uses real cheat codes to give you exciting cheats like Infinite Lives, Infinite Health, All Vehicles and more. The new Media Edition also boasts a powerful media player for movies, music and home brew games.
Action Replay DS Media Edition has the power to blow your NDS games wide open. Our dazzlingly dynamic device uses real cheat codes to get to the heart of your NDS games, giving you enhancements such as Infinite Lives, Infinite Health, All Vehicles, All Levels and other exciting cheats. But it’s so much more than just a cheat system. It also includes a media player to play movies and music stored on a MicroSD card (not supplied), and can even run home brew software written for the NDS!
Action Replay DS Media Edition is really easy to use. You simply insert the supplied Action Replay cartridge into your DS or DS Lite, and switch on. When prompted, remove the Action Replay card and replace it with your game card. Action Replay recognises the title in question and offers you the title's code list. It's that easy! Like previous versions of Action Replay, Action Replay DS Media Edition is fully updateable, so you don't need to buy a new one when new games are released; just update your Action Replay over the internet using the PC app supplied. You can also enter codes manually using Action Replay's virtual keyboard. Our code creators are always hard at work on the latest DS titles, so even the very latest games will be trained and tamed within hours of hitting the shelves.
But it’s more than just a game enhancer. Action Replay DS Media Edition also offers a powerful media player, with which you can play your movie and music files. Using the product’s powerful media utilities, you can convert just about any movie format ready for playback on your Action Replay DS Media Edition. It’s easy to transfer converted movies and MP3 music files to your device too, with drag-and-drop convenience.
As well as music and movies, Action Replay DS Media Edition also lets you play home brew games, utilities and demos written for the DS and distributed for free on the internet. Not every program will work with Action Replay DS Media Edition, but that’s the nature of home brew. Even so, there’s plenty great material out there that plays just fine, and the list is growing all the time. We’ve even thrown in a collection of 25 home brew games to get you started – just drag and drop them from your Action Replay DS Media Edition CD onto your MicroSD card (not supplied) and you’re away!
And to cap it all, Action Replay DS Media Edition also offers a sizzling saves manager called DataMAX, a complete solution for backing up, restoring and exchanging your NDS game saves. DataMAX lets you save multiple times in games like Pokémon, which would otherwise let you make only one save at a time, meaning two or more people can play on the same game cart without interfering with each others’ games!
Action Replay DS Media Edition includes an Action Replay DS cartridge, a media software disc, a USB cable and a MicroSD card reader. The MicroSD card is not supplied – buy it separately and choose your own capacity. Action Replay DS Media Edition is compatible with both the original DS and the DS Lite. To update the device, a PC running Windows XP, 200 or Vista (32 bit) and connected to the internet is required.

Hello, I'm the maker of this program. I have made a newer version of this program with bug fixes, but this project is pretty much abandoned, at least for the DS. (I really like this program myself and might try to make an enhanced PC port, but who knows...) I quite literally forgot about this project and thought this topic died a long time ago. o_o
The new version has typing text, but probably will not have picture support. The source is included in this release too, so if anyone wants to continue this project feel free. It also fixes some annoying bugs like the screen messing up if you have too long of text.
I have released the first of a series of tech demos for my game BongDS. It is availiable for download at my site which can be found in my signature. There isn't much gameplay yet, but i wanted to show the community what i have so far. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as i enjoyed making it.
Anime Quiz DS is a question & answer game, about anime and manga. It's an online game where players from all over the world can participate (it's available in english and spanish) in different quizes. Every week new questions will be added, so be tunned on.
In order to participate you need: a DS obvously, Wifi conection, download the game, an account (because all data are stored in a DB). You can also add new questions through the game webpage.
All the info and downloads about the game on it's official webpage.
Bakaban currently working on a puzzle-game rather promising, the views of screenshots halléchants he posted. This is (unfortunately) not yet available for download but it will do its utmost to propose a demo soon.
Another interesting project to encourage. For other images, the official website direction.
Warner Bros. will publish Fun Park, a theme park party game for DS later this year and here are seven new screens.
As the release explains: "Players are tasked with quests that encourage them to explore the park's universe. After creating a unique custom character, Fun Park patrons can test their skills, win prizes, and play against friends and family with 40 mini-games."
Supposedly, the game will "bring the thrills and chills of a theme park to family living rooms worldwide". Hmm...
Wii and PS2 versions are also on the way. Check out the DS screens here.

In some venues, silver is the color of second place. For Nintendo DS, silver is No. 1. Starting Sept. 7, Metallic Silver joins the Nintendo DS color palette. The new Metallic Silver version makes a nice addition to any tech collection, whether you're a gadget hipster or fashionista. Watch for the Metallic Silver DS to be featured in the new upcoming Nintendo DS print ad featuring actress Liv Tyler.
Millions of people around the world, from core gamers to new players, have discovered Nintendo DS. Some like to play traditional games like New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS or The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Others use it to train their brains with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day or solve puzzles with Crosswords DS. With a library of more than 600 games in every conceivable genre, there's a game or experience for everyone.
In case you missed it, Nintendo and 54 other companies are engaged in a legal battle against the forces of evil. Evil being the R4 cart for the DS. One of those 54 other companies is Capcom, and in a conference call they explained the reason behind their participation in the suit:
There are companies that sell downloads without any license in the U.S.A., while a considerable number of pirated copies of game software are available in the Chinese market. In response to these situations, this lawsuit took the initiative for the whole industry in terms of taking countermeasures. It does not necessarily have a great effect at this stage, but we intend to send a wake-up call to such companies in the future.
That last line's interesting. Particularly if you're involved with the R4 - or other similar devices - and your boots were previously shaking. Their heart's not really in it!
Wondering what awaits at the Tokyo Game Show? This should provide an insight. A list of how many titles for each genre and a list for how many games are coming to each platform has been released. Let's start with the game genres:

• RPG: 35 titles
• "Simulation": 22 titles
• Sports: 20 titles
• Adventure: 14 titles
• Shooting: 11 titles
• Racing: 3 titles
Thanks to dsscene for finding a release ive not seen before. Heres the info:
This is another brew by MeRAMAN. A version of Tetris that seems to have an online wifi ranking built into it. (Gotta love that Gradius font). I must admit i haven't actually tried it yet but the latest version i could find on his server was from the 15th of August. On the homepage i noticed one listed as 2008/08/29 but couldn't find a download for it. The zip is 25MB so i just uploaded it to rapidshare to save a bit of bandwidth.

Tricforce has found another great piece of homebrew for the DS, heres what he posted:
While browsing the net in the hope i might find some new obscure homebrew games, i stumbled across a Japanese site by MeRAMAN, which has a few brews that must have gone unnoticed by most people in the scene. This one was released back in April as far as i can tell. It's just a ridiculous game where you can press the buttons to change the characters expressions, move them up and down, or throw onions.
Agetec, Inc. is pleased to announce that its Nintendo DS game, Touch Darts, is now currently available on store shelves. The only dart game that combines the unique touch screen controls of Nintendo DS with four unique single player and multiplayer modes, is now available for purchase by dart enthusiasts everywhere.

"With its controls specifically designed for Nintendo DS, the Touch Dart's gameplay faithfully recreates the feel and challenge that dart fanatics will be looking for. Sega has an all new Shining Force game in development for the DS. The latest issue of Famitsu has a first report on Shining Force Feather.
In Shining Force Feather, players take control of main character Jin, a treasure hunter and wanderer. The game takes place 3,000 years following the war between the Shining Force warriors and enemy forces known as the Kyomu. That war is remembered primarily as artifacts, which is where Jin comes into the picture.
On one of his treasure hunts, Jin discovers Alfeen who, while looking like a young lady, is actually a machine. A remnant from the war of 3,000 years ago, Alfeen is used to control an air ship. The only reason she survived to modern times is that she was a backup control unit and was never put to use. Believing Jin to be her master, she powers up an air ship that was used during the Shining Force times.
This is where the story begins, with Jin and Alfeen traveling the world. Joining them is Bail, a centaur and childhood friend of Jin.
Feather will feature a turn-based strategic battle system with an overhead perspective. Select an enemy for attack, and the game switches to a side perspective. Here, the battle system takes on somewhat of an action feel as you press buttons to select from various actions.
In addition to solo attacks, the battle system will allow players to team up their forces for combination attacks.
The title represents somewhat of multi-part collaborative effort for Sega. While Yoichi Shimosato is serving as producer, Sega is entrusting development to Flight Plan, a studio known for the Summon Night series. Character designs are being handled by both Pako (Shining Force EXA) and Noiji Ito (Haruhi Suzumiya series).
Shining Force Feather is currently 60% complete and will see Japanese release in Spring of 2009.
Got yourself a Japanese Wii? Then connect to the Everybody's Nintendo Channel and you'll find a sweet little present: a demo of Dragon Ball DS, or as its known outside of Japan, Dragon Ball: Origins.
The demo of the latest Dragon Ball game offers players a chance to get used to young Goku's controls. Fully stylus based, the control scheme lets you switch off between hand-to-hand and rod-based combat all the while jumping over chasms and pushing massive rocks and crates out of your way.
Nintendo will be removing the demo on the the 17th, after which (barring the release of a similar demo in the US), you'll have to fly to Japan and make the download at DS Station retail kiosks.

An action-platformer game packed with puzzle elements, SPRay features a unique gameplay mechanic involving the use of several liquids that are sprayed onto the game universe.

After donning a magic crown which summons two liquid spraying spirits, he sets out to defeat the evil queen and her army of anti-matter soldiers. The key will be to skillfully use the "angelic" and "wicked" spirits to spray water, oil, slime and other liquids on enemies and surfaces to solve puzzles and wipe out evil. Welcome to this week's Games Update, our weekly summary featuring all new product arrivals from the last seven days.
Interesting games that came out this week include the US versions of hot games such as Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice and Tales of Vesperia. So to those who owned NTSC U/C encoded systems or those who don't speak Japanese, here is your portal to these hit Japanese RPGs.
Aside from localized RPGs, some very popular Xbox360™ games came out. Fight dirty in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, unlike the above mentioned Japanese RPGs, you are not located in a fantasy world where there is a path to justice, you are not fighting to become a hero, you are trying to benefit from chaos.
The other Xbox360™ game differs greatly from the above mentioned fiery actioner. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise is about creating an utopic world for pinata animals. Since rent has become expensive and very few people have the luxury of owning a garden the size of a forest, make use of your Xbox360™ portal to another world.
No matter how forgiving a person is, there must have been one or two people whom they love to hate. Face Breaker allows you to relieve this grudge and lower your stress levels. Disfigure your opponent's face through your powerful punches, but be careful not to mix up the virtual world with reality.
Your home consoles can make a lot of your wishes come true, not only can you own a paradise-like garden, now you can even own multiple Ferraris through your PlayStation3™. Ferrari Challenge allows you to join professional and amateur racers on the most famous race tracks around the world.
Get off your Ferraris and enter the Abyss to deplete the demon population as the queen's champion in Abyss Gate. Travel into the depths of the shadows to protect your country. Although menacing, shadows are not neccessarily a source of evil, in Blue Dragon Plus, a sequel to its highly popular Xbox360™ predecessor, you cast your shadow over your enemies as weapons.
Aside from games, a couple of interesting soundtracks also came out. The challenge bemani games pose have amused and frustrated many people and the key to the games' success is in the music. Synthesized, by Fujimori Sota and Pop'n Music 16 Party is going to revitalize a lot of people via its energetic tunes.
As usually, here's a summary of all new releases from this week, followed by a quick preview of what is expected to be hot next week.

Nintendo might be cranking out new DS Lite colors left and right, but IGN says something bigger's brewing in Kyoto -- a third iteration of the DS with dual touchscreen displays, one of them widescreen. Those are pretty significant changes, so we'd actually say that sounds more like a second-gen DS rather than another rev of the current hardware, but IGN says the rumored release date of April or May 2009 doesn't jive with a whole new unit. We'll see when we see -- hopefully we won't be waiting long.
PS.- That's just IGN's mockup, don't get too excited.
Well, Afrika certainly outperformed the Silicon Knights-developed import; the PlayStation 3 safari game nabbed the number two spot, behind another solid week by Rhythm Tengoku Gold. Too Human debuted at #17, higher than the week's other new Xbox 360 entry, Clannad.
In other news, the latest Fire Emblem for the DS rebounded after an off-week, with Square-Enix's Sigma Harmonics showing no signs of recovery. Oh, and some people bought Battlefield: Bad Company.

The extent to which a game's sounds and music can affect a player's enjoyment is often overshadowed by other characteristics, such as graphics or gameplay. That said, I'm sure most players have had an experience where the audio really contributed to making the game great, whether it was an epic soundtrack, excellent narration, or just intuitive sound effects. Rock, Paper, Shotgun is running a feature discussing the state of game audio in today's market, discussing how far it has come, and where it's going.
"Games present some unusual problems, like the mix having to adjust itself to suit a situation created by the player, rather than the static vision of a single director. Game designers have to have a flexible attitude towards factors such as the amount of time spent listening to the same piece of music and the potential for sonic overload if too many game sounds are played simultaneously. ... CryTek's Florian Füsslin explained that Crysis' lavish soundscape was defined primarily by what information the player needs to hear. 'We often went for the concept "less is more" or let's better say "important things first." We used a pretty solid priority system which cuts quiet or unimportant sounds in an audio busy situation like combat. Together with the right mix we were able to provide a dense soundscape in all situations players might run into.'"

This website presents the Micro Lua DS project. Micro Lua is an homebrew for Nintendo DS which allow you to lauch Lua scripts (www.lua.org). Tens of functions have been added to Lua 5.1.3 source code. This allow you to create applications and games very simply on your favorite console.
News
2008/09/04 Micro Lua DS 1.0.1beta released !
This version correct the bug with exceptions. Now when an error occured it will displayed on the lower screen.
Now the no$gba tester works.
Risike has made a Lua script that tests the performance of Micro DS lua.
It will draw a lot of bounding an rotating balls with different sizes of both screens. After 1'20'' it will display the max number of balls it can display without fps fall.
I tested on no $ gba and I found 58 bullets. I have not yet tested on a real DS. In any case can be moved on display 58 images by all possible operations above (change of color, rotation and zoom), which seems quite reasonable given that one can display Maps almost as quickly as it displays an image.
Judelco has released a new version of his Zelda "game"/engine for the DS, heres whats new;

-- And muuuchos bugs solved

Quality/Usability : Rumors have been circulating the web that R4 is done for thanks to Nintendo or that R4 is still alive and kicking. There are even reports of the R4 Team releasing a new R4 that supports SDHC but at the same time, R4 has told me that there is no plan for SDHC support.
So in my hands, I have a R4SDHC. Images have been floating on the web of this product along with a couple of different websites that seem to be fake. The URL on this packaging is http://www.r4sdhc.com. The site looks identical to R4's (www.r4ds.cn). There are some stuff that looks different between the two sites and the email on R4SDHC is a Gmail account. My contact at R4 has a "@r4ds.com" email. This makes me wonder if this truly is real or not. I know majority of people will probably call this a fake and I'm not denying it or agreeing with it. Coloruful Zone does state that this is the real deal.
In the mean time while people ponder whether this is real or not, we want to know if it works just like the original R4 but with SDHC support.
When it comes to the cards physical appearance, there is no difference with the exception of the sticker now containing a SDHC logo. The same stuff is included just like the original R4. However, this time its missing the installation CD. It still comes with USB microSD card reader, silicone DS cartridge keychain holder and a strap. Since no CD is included, you can download the latest firmware files at R4DSHC's website or here. As of this review, the latest version is 1.21.
The R4SDHC cartridge size is identical to that of the original R4DS cartridge. The microSD card is inserted through the top of the cartridge and fits flush with the cartridge. The microSD slot is not spring loaded so you will have to manually pull it out.
If you are familiar with R4 or any other flash cart, setting up the R4SDHC is the same. Simply downloaded the latest firmware, extract the file and transfer the files onto the microSD or microSDHC and thats it. Adding ROMs and Homebrew is simple. Once you have the microSD/SDHC card inserted into the card reader and the card reader connected to the computer, its a simple drag and drop. You'll need to setup two folders, one for your DS games and one for your Homebrew files.
The firmware or looks exactly the same. There is no difference in it. You'll still have the touch screen for selecting mode and folder. But when it comes to navigating through the list of games and files, you'll need to use the directional pad and "A" button to select. Upon loading of OS, you are given three options; GAMES, MULTIMEDIA and BOOT SLOT-2. When GAMES is selected, the file browser is located on the top screen. This is where all your selecting is done.
All it takes to change the look of the OS is four simple images and placing it into the "_system_" folder:
logo.bmp -- Background of the Top Screen of R4's startup.
icons.bmp -- Background of the Bottom Screen of R4's Startup.
bckgrd_1.bmp -- Background of the Top Screen of R4's Explorer.
bckgrd_2.bmp -- Background of the Bottom Screen of R4's Explorer.
Note:
Do not change the picture's name;
Make sure the picture is .bmp format, 8-bit/24-bit;
Make sure the picture is 253*192 pixels.
Testing the R4SDHC with commercial ROMs that I own, it works the same as the R4. There was no difference in functionality at all except that I can now store more games and homebrew on a single microSDHC card. Here is a list of compatibility list, go here. Even though this is for the original R4, the same applies for the R4SDHC.
Testing of homebrew worked flawlessly for most programs. There were only a couple that I encountered that did not work for me. The compatibility list link above will also give you list of homebrew files that work and dont work.
R4SDHC includes Moonshell which allows you to play multimedia files on your DS. In order to watch movies, you must use DPG tools (PC Software) to convert the files to a format Moonshell will recognize. Playing a movies is a nice feature to the R4SDHC but the quality will not compare to that of the PSP. Playing MP3s is a nice addition as well and plays flawslessly.
Conclusion : Overall, the R4SDHC R4 SDHC Revolution DS SLOT-1 works just like the original R4DS. There is no cosmetic change to the cart itself. There is no longer a spring in the microSD slot so you will have to manually pull the microSD card out. Functionality and compatibility is the same and nothing has changed except that you can now use microSDHC. I only tested this with a 4GB microSDHC but it is stated to work up to 32GB microSDHC.
Whether this is real or a fake, the bottom line is that it works. It may or may not be from the R4 Team (confirmation pending) but there are many other flash carts that is a clone of the R4 and they work just as good. For the price of $43, I feel this is overpriced for an outdated product. Yes, it now has microSDHC support but the UI (user interface) is the same. Its bland looking and there is no true touch screen navigation. So if you swear by R4 and only want R4, you may want to take a look at this if you're looking for SDHC support.

Fans of both of the Raven classics, Heretic and Hexen, have been trying for almost a decade to convince Raven Software to release engine source code for the games under the GPL, much like the DOOM engine on which both of them are based. Well, they finally did it! Source code is available at Sourceforge. Both of these games have had the source available for a while, but under a restrictive license that hindered ports and modifications. Now, thanks to dedicated fans, that's no longer a problem
GameSetWatch is running a feature about the evolution of game characters' physical presence. In many games, you can look down and not see your feet, or pass right through other players or NPCs. Other games rely on a believable model that can animate and collide with its surroundings. Tom Cross examines some of those scenarios, and also games that raise the bar for having a physical presence, such as the new Alone in the Dark.
"Edward Carnby's body is a distinct factor in everything that the player does. Your inventory is carried inside Carnby's leather jacket. To use, drop, or combine items, you must open it wide and look down at your own chest. The healing mechanic, too, reinforces the oft-forgotten fact that you have a body. To heal yourself, you must look at the parts of your body (arms, leg, chest) that are wounded, and then spray them with first-aid liquid. Likewise, when you equip an item, Edward reaches for it, palming it and then switching back to the stock third or first person view."
TELL US DAMMIT. here's how it works: We ask a question, you answer it. Simple and no strings attached! This isn't some marketing survey or whatever. It's an emotional investment in you. Yes, we're interested in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know ****tons about us — more than you even want to, we're sure. But, hey, we'd like to know about you. That way you won't be some faceless blob — and we might feel a tinge of guilt when we ban your ass. Or not, because really we're incapable of human emotion. Not sure!
This week, Tecmo turned down Square Enix's offer of a friendly takeover. Rather, the company is in talks to merge with Koei, making Tecmo-Koei a possibility — like Square Enix or Namco Bandai. Our question:
In the latest issue of Club Nintendo - a Spanish Nintendo magazine - Reggie Fils-Aime and Shigeru Miyamoto shed light on some interesting questions. First, and perhaps most importantly, Fils-Aime reaffirmed Nintendo’s commitment to investigating a storage solution. However, Fils-Aime confirmed that it isn’t necessarily a hard drive. Reggie’s words are roughly translated to the following: “We are working on a storage solution and it is especially important in America because our consumers are using Wii Points for the Virtual Console and WiiWare. I want the people to have the right expectations; We have never said that it will be a hard drive nor have we mentioned how we will fix this issue, but we are going to deliver a better way to store the games.” Miyamoto added that gamers should expect an announcement in the future, as Nintendo is researching different technologies to provide Wii owners with some sort of relief.
Between the two, a few more tidbits were shared. As has been previously reported, a new Zelda is indeed in development for the Wii. Although, Miyamoto noted that the new title has not been shown (will not be shown, rather) until the team is confident in the level of development they are in. So basically, when the game is ready to be unveiled to the public, Nintendo will do so.
Other news includes: Miyamoto said that there are enough peripherals for the Wii so we shouldn’t expect too many more. Fils-Aime commented yet again on hardcore gamers feeling left out of this year’s E3 press conference and explained that there’s GTA for the DS and that Animal Crossing is a hardcore game.
Last but not least: No Wii demos on the Nintendo Channel, no DS redesign until sales slowdown, and Reggie Fils-Aime is flattered more than anything in regards to Microsoft’s recent announcements over Xbox Live avatars. New Pikmin confirmed once again. Miyamoto wouldn’t say whether or not we’ll see another Zelda game on the DS.
Piracy has been the main guilty party for everything going wrong in the PC gaming business. Still, there are some voices who disagree and claim that the issue has been significantly overblown.
According to Tom Jubert (Penumbra game writer), game developers should start blaming themselves more for various mishaps such as bad reviews, poor sales and overall failure of a certain game: “rampant piracy is no longer the catch-all excuse it's often employed as.”
Jubert's analysis (posted in an Edge blog) starts with a statement made by the CEO of Crytek: he claiemd that there were 20 illegal copies of Crysis for each legitimate one. However, the game writers says, the actual ratio is far less. According to data from GameShadow Metrics, an online service 5:1 in the US
To back up his statement, Jubert cites figures from GameShadow Metrics, an online service that automatically patches games and, thus, also detects modified .exe files. Thus, he concludes:
“Revenues on some PC titles may well be down by as much as 15% - 20% due to piracy, but I've yet to see evidence for any greater piracy related impact on the platform's decline. Meanwhile, online and casual products are popularly held as moving from strength to strength. At the end of the day, faltering sales must not be pinned solely to pirate activity. We must also blame increased competition from consoles, lack of platform support in the form of a major stakeholder, and the snowballing effect of declining exclusives.”
Early release for me milestone for mankind (well, maybe. The future will tell). I try to make SEDS more "general public". Exit messages debugging abstruse (well, I always invoke them through meditations of my guru, but you do see more) and the coup, "console" is free to give the user tips "tutorials" on the use of software by pressing L and R simultaneously (yes, Cyril, it also works if you appuies on R and L, now.
Incidentally, this is also the first release with the editor palette.
Obviously, it n'empčche not take a look at the mini-manual of the previous version ...
Oh, and for those who had already downloaded the 0.3.2, you can go to 0.3.3 simply by pressing SELECT in the menu files "(hence SELECT START then the start of the programme).

Aerthel has released a new version of his Project Sheratan ~ A Baten Kaitos Battle Engine for DS RPG games app:
This Project (though is not the same as before, i'm keeping the name) aims to create a Card Battle engine for RPG games on Nintendo DS, mimicking the Baten Kaitos series's card system. If you haven't played such games (shame on you! ), there are some pretty good YouTube videos like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXtd26BWJwM to show how the system works. Basically, you have cards that control your characters movements and actions, and played in certain order will resultin flashing and devastating attack combos.
Instructions:
* L/R changes the music
* Touch a card to display its name
* Touch a card while holding Down (or B for left-handed players) to discard it
* Touch a pair of cards while holding Up (or X for left-handed players) to swap them
* Touch a character miniPotrait to set him/her as the "selected character"
Project Sheratan is once again one step closer to completion. New release version 0.009 has these new features:
*Created classes for management of characters. (Sprites from http://www.spriters-resource.com)
*CardTray class created for checking player's card selections and transforming them into character actions.
*Also a lot of less important changes (changed bottom-screen background and the helpBar texture, erased some debug info and a LOT of code cleaning)
To use the card tray, you first need to select which character will play next. Touch the mini portrait to select him/her. Later, you will be able to play cards by selecting them, those will go to the tray and the selected character will perform the actions according the cards you played.
If you've got a case of Club Nintendo envy, you might want to close your eyes for this one. Nintendo Japan updated the rewards program item list today with six items, at least three of which have the potential to make fans outside of Japan weep sour tears of jealousy.
The six items include:
Game & Watch Collection 2: This DS cart (complete with a case!) includes two Game & Watch classics, Parachute and Octopus. Also included is Parachute X Octopus, an original game combining the two. 500 points.
Touch Generations Soundtrack: Following a series of Mario-themed soundtracks, the Touch Generation series gets the speaker all to itself. When Nintendo says Touch Generations, it means a wide variety of titles, including Wii Fit, Wii Play, the Wii Shopping Channel, Nintendogs, and even Smash Bros. Brawl. A total of 25 tracks are included in this 64 minute CD. 400 points.
Mario Party playing cards: A 54 card set featuring artwork for Mario Party 8. The cards can be used as a picture puzzle game (instructions included -- probably in Japanese, though). 300 points
Mario & Luigi mini pouch: Two mini pouches are included in this set. Each is capable of holding small items like change and DS cartridges. 250 points.
Nintendo DS Lite pouches: These nylon/polyester pouches come in red, yellow, green, and orange. There's space for your DS Lite, with a pocket for two games. 250 points.
Original Mario badges: Nintendo has created four badges, each original Club Nintendo designs. 250 points.
Club Nintendo members in Japan have access to these items now. Everyone else will have access to them once members take delivery of the items and start posting them to Ebay.
Gameplayer are running a comprehensive feature on the history of Nintendo that runs through all 119 years of their existence, from humble card maker to gaming powerhouse. It is documented in chronological order and includes a stack of trivia about the company that will be thoroughly enjoyed by all Nintendo fans. As an interesting side note, it links to a sister article that explores how Mario can improve your sex life."
One aspect of game design that many people point to when wailing about the lack of difficulty in many games these days is the save system. Older games, they argue, doled out saves like precious gems, and thus made the whole experience much more challenging. 'Where's the difficulty when you can save wherever and whenever you want?' However, as designer David Sirlin argues in a Gamasutra article, this is a false dichotomy: "We can allow the player to stop playing without excessive penalty and make a challenging game. It's just a matter of defining what 'saving' actually means." In short, there are plenty of examples of challenging games that don't punish the player for having other things going on in their life that don't allow for structuring a day around gaming:
A save system should allow the player to stop playing at any time, allow the player to pick up where he or she left off with as close to zero replaying as possible, and save as automatically and seamlessly as possible, so the player will not forget to do it.
Saving should be treated as one of the player's natural rights, not an earned privilege or a game mechanic around which to make strategic decisions.
The design space we have to create new games is so unthinkably large that we lose virtually nothing by restricting ourselves to designs with friendly save game systems that don't presume to override the real-life needs of players.
I usually wind up gaming on the fly — a little bit here, a little bit there — and the inability to save 'meaningful' progress quickly is one of those things that irks me. I sometimes resort to leaving my console on, wondering the whole time I'm out of the house if the damn thing is going to overheat and my house, possessions, and dog are going to go up in flames; I don't really need to be punished because I can't schedule my day around gaming. It's an interesting article and rebuttal to some of the 'difficulty discussions' that have been going on lately — Sirlin pretty successfully argues his point that making save systems that don't punish the player for having to put the game down aren't (necessarily) to blame for the lack of difficulty people are grousing about.
I made this for a friend. It's a Sexy Blackjack Trainer variant based on the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Same game but with appropriate graphics and music - play blackjack, win points and unlock pictures.
Recommended if you like both blackjack and Haruhi Suzumiya; or you're a Multiple:Option collector That said, I'm not counting this as an official M:O release - it's a side project and what you see is what you get. Use No$GBA if you're emulating.

While checking to see if DsDsRevolution had been updated i found another Japanese blog with a homebrew i haven't seen before, Lost Cities DS by tambourine_dc. Lost Cities is a card battler game in which you can use a Mii avatar, you can create those here. It's based off a card game of the same name by Rainer Knizia. The release is from back in February, but seeing as no homebrew sites have posted it apart from a few Japanese blogs (or so google search tells me), i thought i would up it here in the hope that it might gain a bit more notice from the scene.
This is an ASCII Art Maker for Nintendo DS that I made for fun. Some people on my regular IRC channel liked it, so I thought I'd release it here, to hear what other people have to say. Written with devkitARM and PAlib. You can draw with whatever character you want, both upper and lower case.
Quick start:
Select button: Bring up the keyboard to select a character.
L/R button: Choose the drawing color.
A+B at the same time: Clear the screen.
Touch-screen: Draw.
Select the Space character to delete tiles.
Each tile takes up 8x8 pixels, and the total tile-grid is 32x24 tiles. Saving is not yet implemented, but probably will be in a later version.
I'd love to hear your feedback and/or comments on my little program =)
I can't attach the file, i think it's bugged. Says it exceeds quota. Therefore: Link. Download here
The Nintendo DS is the top selling platform in Japan for the month of August, according to data from Enterbrain, as reported by Gamasutra.
Enterbrain reports that the DS sold 333,000 units, down by 29 per cent compared to the previous year's results. However, this is the first time the DS has been the top-seller in Japan for several months.
The PlayStation Portable was in second place with 292,000 units sold, The Wii was the best selling console at 181,000 units, while Namco Bandai's Tales of Vesperia boosted Xbox 360 sales to 45,000 units.
The best selling game of the month was Rhythm Tengoku Gold for the DS at 625,000 units. This was followed by Sega's Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP, selling 572,000 units.
EA has announced a drop of Ł20/€30 from the recommended retail price for the Rock Band Instrument Edition pack sold in Europe. This means the cost of the instrument bundle and game, which sold separately for a combined price of Ł180/€240, will go from the shocking price of $360 (when converted to American bucks), to the better-than-before price of $300.
EA also stated that the PS3, PS2 and Wii versions of the game will release this September on the continent. Hopefully, EA/MTV/Harmonix will work out better pricing for the sequel when it's eventually released in Europe ... or at least come up with a better excuse for the high price.

Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today confirmed that the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game will be released globally Summer 2009, alongside the Warner Bros. Pictures' film based on J.K. Rowling's sixth Harry Potter book.
"We're excited about the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince video game in development and its high level of authenticity and playability," said Robert Nashak, Vice President EA Casual Studios. "We are creating an immersive game experience that Potter fans around the world will really enjoy playing as they fly and duel their way through the story of the film. The game will feature new Wii gestures and increased gameplay capabilities across all of the platforms."
"The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince game will be an excellent interactive extension of the film and all of the new action that comes with it," said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "EA is creating the Harry Potter video games that fans will love, and this game will deliver new gameplay elements and the magic players are looking forward to."
"We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership with EA in collaborating on the videogames for all of the Harry Potter films," said Harry Potter film Producer David Heyman. "The visual look of the game for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is incredibly authentic to the film and will provide a truly compelling experience for everyone who plays."
In the game of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, players will return to Hogwarts to help Harry survive a fraught sixth year. They will also have a chance to engage in exciting wizard duels, mix and brew magical ingredients in Potions class and take to the air to lead the Gryffindor Quidditch team to victory. Players may even get sidetracked by Ron's romantic entanglements as they journey towards a dramatic climax and discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince.
Developed by EA's Bright Light Studio, the team behind the worldwide success of the Harry Potter library of games including the most recent game released in the summer of 2007, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is scheduled for release Summer 2009 for the Wii, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, Nintendo DS, Windows PC, Macintosh and mobile devices.
Fraudsters have begun cold-calling householders to accuse them of copyright infringement online and threaten them with court action, an ISP has reported.
The development comes soon after the law firm Davenport Lyons won a widely-reported Ł16,000 default court award for a videogames firm from an alleged filesharer. Davenport Lyons followed up the default judgement by telling newspapers that it had identified 25,000 more targets that it would take to court if they did not pay a Ł300 settlement.
Small ADSL provider UKFSN received a support call yesterday from an elderly customer who was concerned after being contacted by a scammer on Tuesday.
Accused of illegally sharing music, UKFSN's subscriber was savvy enough to refuse to give any details, and turned the tables on the caller, demanding to know where they were calling from. When they refused to provide credentials he hung up.
UKFSN's Jason Clifford posted some details of the incident on a broadband forum. He told El Reg: "They told my customer they had proof he had been filesharing illegally. The important thing to remember is that no ISP would give out a phone number in a legal case."
Two enforcement patterns have been recently adopted by rights holders on an unprecedented scale as they intensify their battle against illegal filesharing in the UK.
Record and film industry bodies are calling on ISPs to work in partnership with them when they detect an infringing IP address. The "enforcement" action taken by compliant providers generally involves a warning letter or letters being sent to the customer the IP is associated with. The BPI has won government backing for a such an effort on a large scale to caution net users against sharing unlicensed music. Last week we reported on how Tiscali tried to comply with a request from the movie studio MGM and got it badly wrong.
At the grubbier end of the scale, Davenport Lyons works with infringement detection firms to monitor BitTorrent networks. It then approaches rights holders and offers to win cash from individuals on their behalf. The High Court will then rubber-stamp an order forcing ISPs to disclose the physical addresses of those concerned, and Davenport Lyons is then free to fire off letters demanding for Ł300 and threatening court action.
In either case, phone numbers are never disclosed.
Many observers, including Reg readers, predicted that fraudsters would seize on lawyers' highly-publicised efforts to extract cash from internet users. And lo, it has come to pass. Email phishers can't be far behind.

Congratulations to all the authors, picking games was particularly difficult considering all the amazing entries!
HUGE THANKS to all our contributors: gabringel, Sinkhead, silverspoon, t4ils, OrR, Funem, Ften, Skooj, Ricky2u, Stanny, and many more (anonymous donators) !
I have an announcement to make regarding future bounties. I have been discussing with other major scene website owners and we have decided to make some important improvements to the Homebrew Bounty!
The Homebrew Bounty will now take place once every 3 months (making it a quarterly event), giving homebrew developers a lot more time to come up with better games!
The prizes will be distributed in a completely different fashion, allowing for more authors to be rewarded.
The Homebrew Bounty will have its own site, separated from GBAtemp. A new Paypal account for collecting donations will also be set up (english account this time! *wink*).
The event will be given a new name! It will be revealed in the coming weeks when the bounty starts.
We hope you enjoyed following this competition as much as I did!
Stay tuned for the next bounty!
Hey everyone,
This is an application I created for myself and other fencers in the homebrew community for convenience and usefulness. (if there are any >.>)
This is a program which is useful for fencers, referees, directors, and coaches.
FencingApp basically is an all in one timer-scorekeeper-cardcounter-coinflipper(for overtime priority).
Explanation:
First choose your mode,
Pools-5 points, one period.
DEs-15 points, three periods.
free-unlimited points and periods.
Press A to start the timer (it will beep so u know).
Press it again to pause it.
Record Fencers' scores with L and R (when the timer is paused)
If a fencer gets a card (for ex. Yellow) Then click on the yellow card in the touchscreen.
Pressing Select Resets the time (You must do this when a period is finished).
A triple beep will sound when a period is over.
The number above the timer is the period you are in.
When the bout is over a results screen will pop up
and you may have each fencer sign
This Reason Behind it: Too many times I have directed a bout and had to use a
clipboard, timer, pencil, etc... All at the same time and usually something gets mixed up, usually the score & the number of cards.
Well I’ve decided to move onto a more interesting project rather then reviving UA Paint from the dead with more updates. This project is Mario Paint Composer. Basically it’s that mario paint music creator ripped out an put on the DS.
After 2 days of coding here is a video of my progress
Tarosa also released a 3d Viewer last month. It looks great but the only problem here is the bin files needed to run what you see in the video are not included. He offsite linked to those on an asian site where the upload expires after about a week. Maybe we should all email the guy asking for a new upload link.
Sorry for the name but i actually don't know what this one translates to. I only know the name of the song in it. Looks like its based off the Miku Touch Demo Vol 2, where you have to tap the screen in a timely manner to play the music. The archive was 25MB so im uploading it to rapidshare. Inside is a file named hakutunbin.7z which i think is the 3D model, it extracts to around 180MB so make sure you have room on your sd card before using this one. The dev of all these games, who i haven't even mentioned up until now goes by the name Tarosa.

The main feature of the game is Naruto's Shadow Clone technique. Identical to the manga, this special technique takes on different forms and is the key to the battle system, the solving of puzzles on the field, and the opening the maps.
Puff! The Shadow Clones appeared to attack the enemy, in threes, fives, nines, even tens! There are all sorts of challenges on the road waiting to be met, like huge leaps, and moving heavy boulders off the map, but by cooperating with your Shadow Clones, nothing is impossible!
Furthermore, you are not on your own! You have dependable allies with you under timed conditions besides your favorite technique. There are millions of combinations that you could try out with your beloved cast of characters!

Updates
1. Ice on floors. Platdude skids across, rather than stops, wherever there's ice.
2. Faster darts. There's 2 dart blocks in the editor. The left hand ones will shoot every 180 frames, right will shoot every 90..!
3. Faster Plungers. There's 2 plungers.. Red = slow, Green = faster.
4. Blocks on Plungers. If you drop a block on a plunger, it'll remove the plunger, but also make the switch, making for permanent switches.
5. Conveyor Belts. They make you move!!!
6. Blocks on Belts. Blocks shift along on belts. Note.. Moving blocks aren't considered solid objects.. So you can usually run through blocks on belts! Bizarre.. But f'k it! They will smush you if you're between a wall and one, though!
7. Blinky Blinky Blobs!..! Stick down a blinky blinky blob, and it occasionally blinks between being a floor and not being a floor!
Timing's very very hard.
BUT.
Draw a line of blinky blinky blobs, and you'll notice a pattern. Draw a full line of them, and a stream of floor will appear to move side to side.. Draw about 5 or 6 in a row, and you get a nice, challenging, occasional bridge to cross at the right time..
Blinky Blinky Blob Bridges move at the same pace Platdude runs.
Oh, and Flamethrowers.
...
So, make levels, submit them, and just like nyarla ("Magnetic Robot Shavings") you can have a batch of levels right there in the compiled edition of the game! Wootsocks! Jay makes a note that he should insert author names into packs!
Just include a nice enough pack, and a decent title for it... And/or a couple of random levels for the random pack.
Sorted!
You've got 1 week to do it.
I'll release the next proper edition next week..
samy from the official forum has released a very useful application that allow you to program directly on your DS: Lua Editor DS. You can download it in the download section.
Amazon have dropped the price of their 8GB memory Sticks for PSP down to an amazing $45, also 8GB Micro SD Cards are $27.79 finally 8GB SD Card for $21.20
At E3 a Square Enix representative told us Chrono Trigger would include a single screen classic mode for purists and here it is. This is a screenshot from the DS arrange version or Chrono Trigger classic with the addition of enemy HP meters on the bottom screen. I guess Lucca’s default accessory, the Sightscope, is completely useless if you’re playing Chrono Trigger in arrange mode.
If you want to play Chrono Trigger with touch screen controls the battle menus appear on the bottom screen with huge buttons. The benefit of touch screen layout is less clutter and no more enemies hiding under the ATB meter.
An ergonomic extension that mimics a guitar fret board and fits seamlessly in people’s hands to deliver the same core gameplay that defines Guitar Hero, it gives players the ability to finger chords in similar fashion as the console version's guitar peripheral.

Sega is bringing the Phantasy Star series to the DS. The new game is titled PS0. No, this is not a new version of Phantasy Star Online. The "0" is actually "Zero" (which you may or may not have figured out depending on your browser's character set).
While the magazine describes PS0 as a completely new title, it does inherit a bit from its predecessors. On top of a story mode, which is not detailed in the magazine, players have access to a four-player multiplayer mode which offers both local and Wi-Fi Connection-based play.
One of the coolest new features for the multiplayer mode is visual chat. Players have access to a scratch pad on the bottom screen, which they can fill with doodles and send to fellow players. The drawings appear in bubbles above the characters, giving the game a comic look (assuming you're good-enough at drawing, that is).
Players can also communicate using pre-set symbols.
Outside of the chatting, the bottom screen is used to display your stats, a map, and your action palette (this is the name that Phantasy Star gives to the player's move menu). It appears that you can select moves from the palette using either the stylus or the R button.
PS0 features all the Phantasy Star character types of old, along with a few new ones. The characters are drawn a bit younger here, as if they've gone back to their teenage years, but PSO fans will have no problem recognizing them.
For this first DS installment, Sega has brought in some new additions to the development staff. Toshiyuki Kubooka, from the Idol Master and Lunar series, is overseeing character creation. Tooru Shiwasu, who previously headed up the online quests in Phantasy Star Online but went on to become an author, is working on PS0's scenarios with another author, Teru Arai.
"Gotta catch'em all!" is the infamous tagline of the pokemon franchise, and to aid, as well as add a bit more fun to your catching process Nintendo has released a new DS console for you to conduct your pokemon taming activities on.
Two new pokemon, Dialga & Palkia from the Diamond Pearl fame have made their mark on the new console.
The controllers of time and space are featured on both the DS system and the case that comes in the pack. Printed in gold and silver, the graceful beasts stands out most sharply against the black backdrop on the DS and its case.
Aside from a chic case, the package also comes with a DVD of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness and a collectible mini poster. The whole package is available as a US version for US$ 169.90 only.
General/Core:
- Added "high-level" check for DMAs and Timer for minor (really minor) speed up [shash]
- Changed instruction execution to 16 at a time blocks (tested and stable) [shash]
- Really minor memory access speed up (mainly added for clarity) [shash]
- Added transparency and fixed material alpha support and alpha testing on the 3D core [shash]
- Changed how depth initial values are calculated (fixes SM64DS skybox) [shash]
- Added SSE2 version for some matrix routines [CrazyMax]
- Some fixes in core (New SMB don't freeze now) [CrazyMax]
- Some optimizations in code [CrazyMax]
- Make matrix 4x4 multiply routines use W-coordinate. [zeromus]
- Add many matrix and vector functions to matrix.c [zeromus]
- Convert to c++!
Windows port:
- Removed the bug report link with a define, to avoid reports from betas/external builds [shash]
- Added the version on window bar to recognize versions from screenshots [shash]
- Changed graphics render core to DirectDraw (work faster) [CrazyMax]
- Some fixes in 3D core OGL (fixed textures) [CrazyMax]
- Added texture caching (speedup 3D core) [CrazyMax]
- Fixes clear depth (ex. Castlevania now don't flipping) [NHerve]
- Make GE matrix mult and load commands clear out unused rows and cols to identity correctly [zeromus]
- carry w=1 from vertex() through pipeline (this will be necessary for software 3d rendering) [zeromus]
- Track polycount better. still worthless: at the very least, it doesnt account for clipping and culling [zeromus]
- Fix errors in matrix operations regarding projection mode and pos-vector mode [zeromus]
- Fix error in command unpacking which caused some display lists to totally blow up [zeromus]
- Render shadow volumes [zeromus]
- Convert alpha and material values from [0,31], [0,7] etc ranges to opengl [0,maxint] ranges in a more precise way [zeromus]
- Fix a race condition in NDS_3D_Reset and NDS_glInit [zeromus]
- Add many of NHerve's improvements into OGLRender because I was trying to fix all the 3d issues. [zeromus]
- Toon shading infrastructure and a demo implementation [zeromus]
- Implement lighting model in software instead of using opengl; improves (potential?) compatibility [zeromus]
- Defer rendering until after flush. This was a necessary architectural change, as it permits savestate
for the display list, and allows us eventually to separate the GE emulation from the rendering [zeromus]
- Fix the 2d/3d compositing well enough for NSMB to fix bugs, but it is still bad [zeromus]
- Reorganize 3d code to defer rendering to vblank. eliminates tearing, and maybe some texturing artifacts.
also possibly helps performance a bit by letting the hardware pipeline work some more before blocking for
framebuffer read. [zeromus]
- Tweak optimization flags and change entire source code to use fastcall [zeromus]
- Add opengl state caching. This is of dubious performance assistance, but it is easy to take out so I am leaving it for now. [zeromus]
- Add MMU->GPU signal for when vram mappings change, which allows it to assume textures are unchanged unless vram has changed [zeromus]
As we expected, Apple's "Let's Rock" event yesterday offered some new iPods and a new version of iTunes—even if the unveiling didn't quite meet our expectations. But Steve Jobs and Co. had something else to deliver as well: a clear message that his company now has its sights set directly on the portable gaming market, with very real and very high aspirations for App Store games for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Jobs even showed off a new ad touting the new iPod Touch as the "funnest" iPod ever.
Apple's mobile gaming goals go far beyond fancy new versions of Bejeweled and Tetris—Jobs yesterday called for "a whole new class of games." It's now clear that the company is gunning for the big boys: Nintendo and Sony, whose DS and PSP platforms, respectively, have dominated the portable video-game market for years. Here's why the old giants should be scared of the new kid on the block—and why they shouldn't.
3 Reasons Nintendo and Sony Are Running Scared:
1. Buying iPhone/iPod Games Is Quick and Simple
Because games can be purchased directly on your iPhone or iPod Touch via Wi-Fi or the phone's 3G network, it's easy to overdo it. Psychologically, pressing "Install" just isn't the same as plopping down a few bills at your local GameStop, so a spend-happy gamer may be likely to buy three or four games in a binge. And because iPhone and iPod users can buy games anytime, anywhere, they never have to worry about stock shortages—or ever getting up from their couch.
2. iPod Games Are Cheap, and Increasingly High-Profile
Very, very few iPhone/iPod games cost more than $10. Meanwhile, very few Nintendo DS or PSP games cost less than $25. And while the DS and PSP games are usually big-budget affairs that dwarf a simple iPhone Sudoku application, this gap is rapidly closing as high-profile developers increasingly port big games such as Spore and Need For Speed to the iPhone and iPod.
3. iPod Games Can Be Expanded and Updated
It's almost inevitable that a big game will have a few bugs or glitches that aren't discovered until after launch. There's usually little Nintendo DS and PSP players can do other than grin and deal with the glitchy gameplay. But iPod games can be tuned to check for updates and heal themselves whenever bugs are found. The iPhone 3G makes it especially easy for developers to deliver expansion packs, adding levels and characters to successful games.
3 Reasons the Gaming Companies Can Sleep Easy ... for Now:
1. iPods Are Touchscreen-Only
In some ways, the absence of a keypad is a boon to innovation when it comes to mobile gaming—it encourages developers to think up creative workarounds using simple tilts and touch gestures. But it's not perfect. This is true for both big, complex games (there's a reason the touchscreen DS also has a full keypad), and with the retro/classic gaming that mobile platforms traditionally excel at (we'll never get used to tilting our phone to manipulate Tetris blocks, and Space Invaders just isn't the same if you can't properly mash your fingers against buttons). Finally, buttons are still far more precise than Apple's accelerometer.
2. Parents Won't Buy iPhones For Their Kids
The Nintendo DS costs just $129. The PSP? $169. These relatively low prices make them very attractive to parents out shopping for an electronic babysitter. Not only do the iPhone and iPod Touch cost considerably more, but they simply aren't toys that can be thrown into the hands of young children. They have large, fragile glass touchscreens, no restrictions on Internet browsing and come linked to online stores. To the extent that gaming is for children, Apple hasn't figured out how to corner the market yet.
3. Games for Dedicated Systems are Much Bigger.
It's hard to ignore that even the high-profile iPhone/iPod games are pretty stripped down, usually playing like drawn-out mini-games that rely on one or two touchscreen-, or accelerometer-driven gimmicks. No matter how pretty a game is, if the gameplay just involves tilting the screen left and right, you won't play it for long. Dedicated gaming systems typically feature more complex games with stylistically different levels and elements. On the other hand, too many big applications will just slow the iPod Touch and iPhone down. Lets put it this way: The Grand Theft Auto series soared on the PSP, but will likely never come to the iPhone (and we're not so sure we'd want to play it if it did).
What are your thoughts, personally the biggest threat to DS and PSP in homebrew terms is Pandora but commercialy if they bring the Iphone/ipod touch down to a much lower price then only then will it threaten PSP or DS, your thoughts via comments
Ritz has today updated one of the best looking Homebrew Games for the Nintendo DS.

DSwiki (v0.1beta1)
====================
DSwiki is an offline viewer for Wiki markup, for example for the
Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wiktionaries, ...
DSwiki is NOT a web browser!
Why DSwiki?
=============

-- Quite good handling of internal links. Alternative display text
and appended letters are supported to create the same look as
in the online version.
-- Very good Unicode/UTF8-Support (as much - or as little - as the
underlying font covers).
-- Fast and easy searchable index.
-- A cache to navigate quickly the history of visited pages.
Planned Features
==================
-- Much better markup display
-- Bookmarks
-- Improved Search (advanced input)
-- Navigation by document structure (jump to headlines or
jump from link to link as in text browsers)
-- "Find as you type" inside an article
-- Memory saving font handling, switching between fonts on the fly
-- Customization
Use
=====
At the moment DSwiki can't do more than display mostly unformatted
wiki markup of articles (but word and line breaks and a proportional
font make it easy readable).
DSwiki works as follows:
A random article will be loaded at the start.
Up/Down: Scroll one line backward/forward
Left/Right: Scroll one page backward/forward
Stylus: Follow a link on the bottom screen
L/R: Go one page back/forward in history
A: Go to another random article
X: Index-assisted search on/off
Articles names (no unicode yet) can be entered
on the keyboard.
Touching the red button clears the input field.
The D-Pad navigates through the index.
The L/R-buttons do bigger steps.
The current highlighted article name can be loaded
either by
* touching the green button
* pressing A
* touching Enter on the virtual keyboard

Welcome to this week's Games Update, our weekly summary featuring all new product arrivals from the last seven days.
The highlight of this week is doubtlessly the release of Square Enix's much anticipated RPG Infinite Undiscovery. Cut off the chains that bind the moon to this world and remove the corrupted source of power that is governing everyone's life.
Besides sheer force, strategy is just as important in battles and Warhammer emphasized this point. The brutality of war and the enemies are remarkable in this series, so think twice before you employ your forces. The complete Dawn of War Collection is released on the PC while the newer installment, Battle March, has made its debut on the Xbox360.
Firearms and equipment are also vital to obtaining a victory in violent struggles. In the action shooter Commando: Steel Disaster, you have a wide range of fire arms selection. Tap into your leadership talents and unlock missions, take down your arch-nemesis and soil his dream of world domination.
Since we are talking about shooters, Fantasy Zone, one of the most representative of Sega shooters has come out as a complete collection [ebten DX Pack and Standard versions]. The package contain a total of 10+ games, from home console versions, arcade versions to the spin off products. All in all, the package has revived the full glory of the game for your PlayStation2 console.

Last week I was motivated to make a super futuristic clock to train and ultimately I make a simple clock LED but a full black gives a rather nice, a rotation Sprite3D which gives an effect of light
I therefore put it online this unpretentious clock with sources
DSGameMaker posted a new game for the Nintendo DS:
As far as Im aware you can make changes to the entry up until the deadline so here goes, I'm only posting what I've done so far so people can comment if they want to. For the moment I haven't included the MP3 files so you'll just have to play it without sound, but it doesn't make too much difference.
Gummo has posted a remake of an old intelevision game for the DS:
A remake of the old Intellivision game SNAFU.
Can play by yourself against up to 3 other computers or play against up to 3 other human players wireless. Note, because of the wireless ability, this game can only be played on real hardware.
Two game modes:
Trap-
Object is to avoid other players snakes while trying to make them hit your path.
Bite-
Object is to bite the tail of the other player's tail. Can only be played in multiplayer.
Dont worry i havent gone mad and i know Zack posted this the other day but for my own linkage reasons for the DS site ill post it as well and lets be fair an Apple 2 emu for DS deserves being praised and promoted.
I've been working on this since the end of June when a friend told me about the retroemu contest. This is a completely new emulator written for this compo. Its very unfortunate I was not able to complete the disk emulation in time for entry. This is the fourth Apple II emulator I've worked on, and my second written from scratch. The Apple II is a challenge to emulate because of the many hardware tricks implemented by Steve Wozniak. It was because of these quirks that the Apple was more affordable than many of its competitors. I would have loved to have the disk emulation and other minor bugs fixed so that classics such as Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, Karateka, and Prince of Persia could be played. I plan to continue working on this emulator for the coming months. All feedback is welcome.
What's Implemented:
Apple II+ Hardware
MOS 65C02 CPU (Written in 100% ARM Assembly)
Text, LoRes, HiRes, Mixed graphics
Onscreen Keyboard
12 Built-In Applesoft Demos
Apple 16KB RAM "Language Card"
What's Missing:
Sound (It just recently broke)
Disk Controllers (Almost working, but disabled for now)
Planned Features:
DS Slot-2 RAM expanders used as Apple "Slinky" RAM Expansion
Harddisks and 3.5" Floppy support for ProDOS
Multiple Mockingboards / Phasor Soundcards
Tape In / Tape Out
Apple II, IIe, //c Emulation
Z80 Card

Last month's 360/PS3 FIFA 09 screens had the ripe whiff of Bullshot about them (hey - we could be wrong, let's see them in motion) but this crop of Nintendo DS shots seem much more likely.
We don't know much about what to expect from the pocket-sized version, but it looks pretty good - nice use of the touch screen for tactical overheads and a decent enough 3D match view up top.
FIFA 09 will be kicked into touch on all consoles, everywhere, on October 14th.
While Mistwalker's Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360 didn't tear up the sales charts and reverse Microsoft's fortunes in Japan, it did have a more than respectable 80,000 unit opening week. Blue Dragon Plus for the Nintendo DS didn't fare quite as well, with a limp showing of just 21,000 units sold through. Granted Blue Dragon for the 360 bowed in December, giving it the holiday sales boost, but we doubt Mistwalker and AQ Interactive are popping the Cristal.
It's Nintendo whose likely celebrating this week, as Rhythm Tengoku Gold continues its sales chart dominance, with Wii Fit creeping further up the Media Create sales charts. Only two titles appear in the top ten that aren't on Nintendo hardware: Afrika and J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship.
01. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (DS) - 55,000 / 668,000
02. Wii Fit (Wii) - 32,000 / 2,609,000
03. Blue Dragon Plus (DS) - 21,000 / NEW
04. Afrika (PS3) - 19,000 / 57,000
05. J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship (PS2) - 18,000 / 136,000
06. Fire Emblem: Shin Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Ken (DS) - 17,000 / 222,000
07. Dragon Quest V (DS) - 15,000 / 1,164,000
08. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX (DS) - 15,000 / 326,000
09. Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 14,000 / 1,748,000
10. Inazuma Eleven (DS) - 14,000 / 85,000
The Multiplayer blog spoke with Tadashi Iguchi, one of the developers for the recent Pac-man and Galaga remakes, about the decision to bring new life to old classics and whether today's games will receive similar treatment twenty years down the road.
"'I think more than half of the games you see today with huge budgets and such a "realistic" focus will be either stale or forgotten in 20 years,' he said. 'On the other hand, the masterpieces of the '80s will definitely be enjoyed far into the future. The reason for this is simple — many of these classic titles have unique and fascinating mechanics that can't be diminished by the advancement of technology.'"
Rock, Paper, Shotgun's Kieron Gillen has combined and updated a series of guides he wrote for getting into the development of game mods. He provides a detailed explanation of the process from concept to reality as well as a look at some of the obstacles you're likely to run into. Quoting:
"First thing is that it really is work, and should be planned as such. As I've said earlier, you really need to be aware you have to sacrifice other elements of your life to get it done. If you just rely on your free time, the Mod will fail. You may find it helpful to actually time-table periods when you can do stuff, in the same way you would book a regular evening class. If every night you put aside a limited amount of time to do work, you'll make steady progress. This is considerably healthier than the boom/bust approach which most modders will follow. But - y'know - most people on your team will move on a cycle of massive productivity followed by long fallow periods."
The latest results from NPD have revealed that sales of videogames hardware in the US grew by just 3 per cent in August year-on-year, from USD 384.6 million to USD 394.5 million.
That list was headed, once again, by the Nintendo DS, which sold 518,300 units, followed by Nintendo's other console, the Wii, on 453,000 units.
The PlayStation Portable was third on 253,000 units, while the Xbox 360 just beat the PlayStation 3 into fourth - the pair sold 195,200 and 185,400 respectively.
The PlayStation 2 was last with 144,100, although retailers in the US have apparently reported rocketing Xbox 360 sales since the new price points came into force last week.
Meanwhile, sales of videogame accessories were up 13 per cent, from USD 121.1 million to USD 137.3 million.
The hardware sales list is as follows:
1. Nintendo DS: 518,300
2. Nintendo Wii: 453,000
3. PlayStation Portable: 253,000
4. Xbox 360: 195,200
5. PlayStation 3: 185,400
6. PlayStation 2: 144,100
Well, it's another round of data for Japan's weekly console sales again. Today, they maintain same postions like last time but all see a drop like two weeks ago:
Nintendo DS Lite: 51,412
Playstation Portable: 34,462
Nintendo Wii: 33,128
Playstation 3: 8,317
Playstation 2: 7,948
Xbox 360: 1,044
DS lite is down roughly 5,000. PSP drops 7,200. Wii goes down 2,000. PS3 reduces in sales by 1,600, PS2 is down 900 and Xbox 360 is down 1,080.
In contrast to yesterday's North American game charts for August, the latest software sales figures out of Japan aren't lead by Madden (and don't feature Too Human, nor will they ever). Instead, Nintendo's superb Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Rhythm Heaven when it launches here) beat out even the mighty Wii Fit to claim top spot.
Ludwig should be pleased to see that Arika is in there at a respectable No. 4 and, just to save you the counting, yes, six of the top 10 games for the week are on Nintendo DS. Here's the full list, with weekly and life-to-date sales accounted for:
1. Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Rhythm Heaven) – DS – 55,276 / 668,000
2. Wii Fit – Wii – 31,970 / 2,609,000
3. Blue Dragon Plus – DS – 21,174 / New
4. Afrika – PS3 – 18,567 / 57,000
5. J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship – PS2 – 18,342 / 136,000
6. Fire Emblem: New Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light – DS – 17,349 / 222,000
7. Dragon Quest V – DS – 15,454 / 1,164,000
8. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX – DS – 14,688 / 326,000
9. Mario Kart Wii – Wii – 14,207 / 1,748,000
10. Inazuma Eleven – DS – 13,803 / 85,000
Oh Sonic. For years we've followed your adventures as a rubber-armed, lumbering Werehog with childish wonderment. Wait. A. Second. You're not Sonic! He's the zippy little blue guy in the really cool, actually Sonic the Hedgehog looking first half of the new Sonic Unleashed trailer we've got after the break. You're ... you're a monster. You probably ate him.
What. That's Sonic? And you play as him like this at night? Why? We see ... no one knows. Great. Well, we'll just have to set our system clocks ahead 12 hours every time we play. It's ... not tied to the system clock? Then we'll just skip those levels. Please tell us you can skip those levels.

Time for, that's right, TELL US DAMMIT. here's how it works: We ask a question, you answer it. Not sure!
Something playing games is physical — especially if you playing a marathon session.
Question: Ever got a gaming-related injury? If so, what? How?
Honestly, I'm at a loss. There's no shortage of incomplete games gathering dust on my shelves — The Last Guy, Soulcalibur IV, Super Mario Galaxy (I know!) and Killer7 — things that I really should cross of the list. And I stupidly slept on the id Super Pack deal from last weekend. But I'm feeling unmotivated, probably due to LA's overcast skies and the obligation to complete Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise. Any recommendations? I've got some cash burning a hole my in pocket.
Other than that, I'm setting my weekend to Take It Easy, factor ten. What are you playing this weekend?
I won’t lie – I was something of an otaku when I was young. (Okay, I still am; I founded the Mills College anime club, for crying out loud). I watched Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon and even Robotech, the mutant hybrid that should not have been but was somehow totally awesome. And, of course, I was into all things Dragon Ball – all the way through GT.
Dragon Ball Origins takes me back to the happy place that was after school and on Saturday mornings – somewhere between badly dubbed anime and expensive comics with thinly veiled adult humor. It’s an action-adventure in the same vein as Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass – an RPG that’s trimmed down for simple DS controls.
The impossible happened! I actually took some time to clean up and resolve the libellen-libnds collision problems, while also transforming libellen to the traditional library.a file. I also added very primitive background handler - it works, but don’t count on it.
eglomer realizes "Lights Out!" reflexio game in which you have to turn all the lights knowing that you touch and contact that you will reach their position reversed.
If you've seen my sig, you know that I'm currently working on two projects. However recently i was helping BassAceGold with a scroll bar for his Mario Paint Composer DS app(feel free to youtube it). So, I made this demo and am now releasing it. I'd love to have this as a palib example since i see none like it. Anyhow. Here it is, feel free to comment or complain about it.
Obama Says: Yes We Can is a 'Simon Says'-type game based on Barack Obama's New Hampshire Primary speech, as later turned into song by will.i.am. Watch the game create a pattern of button and direction presses, and repeat that pattern correctly to score! The more you get correct, the harder the patterns become - can you keep up?
As always, use a real DS and a flash cart for best results. If emulating, No$GBA is recommended.
HDRL is running an analysis of loot systems in modern games. They talk about how in-game rewards, formerly the domain of RPGs and adventure games with powerups, have expanded to exist in every genre, as achievements and unlockable bonuses have become standard fare.
"For the majority of gamers, once the novelty is gone, they move on. To keep players interested, rewards are required. ... The Diablo series is a perfect example of the theory in effect. Just as in the story of the donkey and the carrot, a game's rewards cannot be too frequent, nor can it be too infrequent. If rewards are too frequent, they lose value in the eyes of the player, and they lose interest. If the rewards are too infrequent, the player loses sight of the carrot, and likely loses motivation to keep playing."
It's a well-known fact that the big three console manufacturers - Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft - all want your money. Once you fork out a few hundred notes for a console, they have you in their mighty grip, and bleed you dry with their capitalist agendas. In some cases, this can be as much as Ł300 over the next five years, not including essentials they don't include with the console. It's similar to hidden bank charges, except Watchdog's Nicky Campbell won't be fighting your corner - he'll be kicking your a*se at Halo instead.
Before we begin tearing apart consoles for their economic crimes, the SKUs (Stock-keeping Unit) tested are the standard ones - the basic Wii bundle (with Wii Sports), the 60GB Premium Xbox 360 package, and the latest 80GB PlayStation 3 with DualShock. Prices are the RRP, but you can knock off a few quid here and there if you shop around.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electricity Costs
Like any appliance, consoles will use up different amounts of power, and the difference between them is staggering. The Wii, the simpleton of the bunch, will use up to ten times less power than its high-definition competitors, with the PS3 requiring the most electricity. They weren't messing around when they said this is the most powerful generation yet. Nuclear power station peripherals are yet to be confirmed.
Wii - 12.41 kWh - Ł1.98 a year
Xbox 360 - 120.45 kWh - Ł19.21 a year
PS3 - 204.40 kWh - Ł32.60 a year
The Wii is hands down the cheapest, but the PS3 will make those energy price rises your worst nightmare. Figures are based on playing a game from a disc (standby and movie playback differ) for two hours per day for a year. (Figures obtained from sust-it.net.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Controllers
You'll be screwed without them, and charitably each console comes boxed with one. If you want to play with your mates then your wallet will have to take a gut punch, and in the case of recharging them, selling its kidney on the wallet black market.
PS3 - Technically there are no added extras, however early adopters missed out on the now-standard rumbling DualShock 3. This will set you back Ł40.
Wii - Comes with a Wii remote and Nunchuk, however an additional remote costs Ł30, and Nunchuk Ł15. That's Ł45 for one additional control set.
Xbox 360 - There is no rechargeable option out of the box - a Play & Charge kit retails for Ł15, and additional wireless controllers are Ł30 a pop. That's Ł60 for two charge kits and an extra wireless pad. However you can save by getting a Wired controller for Ł25.
The PS3 is hands down the cheapest, however the others differ according to what you buy. Getting the full set for both - Nunchuks (Wii) and wireless with recharge packs (Xbox) - makes the 360 Ł15 more expensive. On the other hand you don’t need a Nunchuk for most Wii games, and you can just use cheap rechargeable batteries or wired controllers for your 360.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Television Cables
Confusion sets in at this point, where many gamers are left stranded behind their television, adopting the foetal position and shaking in bewilderment. All consoles come with connection cables, but the quality varies immensely, even between standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD). From plain awful to crystal clear the cables rank composite (SD), RGB (SD), component (SD / HD), and HDMI (HD). Considering there are more HD sets than before, cables are as vital as anything else on this list.
Xbox 360 - Comes with component for HD out of the box, also doubling up as composite cables for those with normal tellies. While there are better SD and HD options, these options will do you just fine.
Wii - Comes with a composite cable. While it looks bad, on a standard definition set it is passable, but you should get either an RGB or component cable. You need component for the best resolution on HDTV sets. They each cost Ł20.
PS3 - Just a composite cable; no HD option in the box. Your gorgeous new HD console will look like it's being played back through an '80s VCR. You need a component or HDMI cable, stat. That's Ł20, thank you very much.
While all three consoles could have better cables, the 360 offers you a near-perfect solution out of the box that gives you decent HD and SD connections. The Wii could do with an upgrade, while the PS3 needs one. What's cheaper, a HDMI cable or cataract surgery? You be the judge.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connecting to the internet
If there is one big leap this generation, it's that each console feeds on byte-sized information from the World Wide Web. If you want to get the most from your new pride and joy, you need to connect to the internet.
PS3 - Comes with both Wi-Fi receiver and LAN port for both wireless and wired connections. Perfect.
Wii - Wi-Fi receiver only. If you want to connect via LAN port, you can buy one for Ł20.
Xbox 360 - Ethernet port only. If you want to get a plug in Wi-Fi receiver, it'll set you back Ł60.
While they all have a base covered, the PS3 hits a home run by being as flexible as an Olympian gymnast. Considering many households own a wireless router, paying Ł60 to have the privilege to do so takes the metaphorical biscuit. Bridge your internet connection to your 360 and spend that Ł60 on a pick-and-mix.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other Additions
These are the little added extras that most people would purchase in their console's lifetime. Not surprisingly, Microsoft pushes these little additions.
Xbox Live subscription - While the Wii and PS3 online services are free, full Gold membership costs Ł40 a year on the 360. Without it, you cannot play online with others or access certain content.
Keyboard - The Wii and PS3 have full USB keyboard support for text input, whereas the 360 keypad costs Ł25. Alternatively, you can spend an entire hour entering a message via the d-pad.
Downloadable Content - This is subjective, as many games offer additional content that perhaps should be in the full product, but are not on the disc. But when games such as Beautiful Katamari (360) ask you to pay to unlock things already on the disc, it reinforces the point that you have to be a millionaire playboy to get the most out of everything.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quantitative Total
So when it boils down to it, which console is the most expensive? Brushing aside the base package, games and optional extras, the initial investment is about the same for all three systems. However the on-going running costs of electricity and subscriptions might find your Xbox 360 finding a new home on eBay. If you plan to keep it for the next five years, it could cost as much as Ł295, compared to Wii's paltry upkeep of Ł10. The PlayStation 3 isn't economically friendly either, coming in at Ł163. Eep.
Initial investment -
Wii - Ł65 (television cable upgrade, extra Wii remote and Nunchuk)
Xbox 360 - Ł60 (extra wireless controller, two Play & Charge kits)
PS3 - Ł60 (television cable upgrade, additional DualShock 3 controller)
On-going investment (per year) -
Wii - Ł1.98 (electricity)
PS3 - Ł32.60 (electricity)
Xbox 360 - Ł59.21 (electricity, Live subscription)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary
It should be noted that these are all optional costs - you don't need to buy another controller, to purchase a Live subscription or run your console every day for the next few years. But many people do, and if you are thinking of getting a new system for yourself or someone else these little costs add up to something fierce. The Xbox 360 is the worst for those hidden costs, although the others aren't exactly innocent either. When you consider this doesn't include what you actually bought it for - the games - it shows that this hobby is a costly thing indeed.
The reviews for Rock Band 2 acknowledge that the game doesn't do anything radically new, but the improvements are enough to justify its existence. For those who don't have friends living close by, being able to play World Tour mode online will certainly be a vast improvement on the original's main method of solo gameplay. The game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it sure does put some sweet rims on it.
Giant Bomb (5/5): "... With its large library of licensed master recordings and vastly improved approach to multiplayer play, Rock Band 2 is a terrific value at both ends. It's both a must-own for fans of the genre and a great place for new players to get started."
GamePro (5/5): "It's more Rock Band and that is not a bad thing at all. With a new setlist of songs and more features, it's a no-brainer for anyone who loved the first Rock Band."
OXM (90/100): "The game's true enhancements come in areas that are arguably more important than playing dress-up. This time, there's no guitar career or drum career; there is only the Tour. The Tour is whatever you want it to be - a solo path through the venues of the world (on any or all instruments - switch between them at will), or a shot at stardom with up to three friends, whether they're in the room or across the country (thanks to the brilliant and long overdue Xbox Live support for co-op careers)."
IGN (90/100): "Rock Band 2 improves in several areas over the original. The track list is better, the difficulty has been bumped up, it's more accessible, all previously released DLC works from the get-go, and Battle of the Bands is a brilliant online mode. But there's no getting around the fact that almost nothing was done to the main mode, World Tour. This is still the primary feature of Rock Band and yet it seems to have been neglected. It's hard to notice the newness when there's a big chunk of game that is just the same as it ever was."

Bakaban realizes the first demonstration of its puzzle game "Orscol", in which you have to reach more possible cases in 5 seconds of the color shown on the right and therefore avoid reaching the top of the screen.
Quote:
On the plateau, squares and lines to fall s'amoncčlent. These squares are different colors. More colors are more varied it's hard. In a menu on the right, a color is displayed. It is the color erasable on the plateau. The color erasable change every 5 seconds (indicated by the discount, and an overview of the two following colors). An additional line falls with the same cadence. It must click on a square of this color to delete the plateau (which brought down the square above). If clicked a square is adjacent to another of the same color, it will also be deleted, and so on to make combo. You can also obtain advantage of points by carrying out "arial" (destroy a square chute), or "arial combo" ...
You can get bonuses and "super attacks" when during a round (5 second session), it achieves a combo more than 10 (single bonus) or 20 (super attack). In the upper screen I put three square to accommodate a wheel, which will determine what bonus or attack you win (or not). The simple bonus may be an object to freeze time, destroy a square (given that the colors are coming on random finds himself sometimes with a column of an undesirable color), etc. ... The super attacks are more effective and give rise to small animations

We would like you to help us try and track down the exact source of this problem (please read retroheads comment in this thread for more details if you would like to help).

Sprite Designing/Testing/Creating/Animating On the GO!
Just so it's clear and the purpose of the app isn't in question (as I think it might be) this is intended to be a developers helper in designing/modifying sprites, particularly for use with PALib, but since there is a binary export now I'm gathering they could be used with any dev platform (not like there are many others...).
This is NOT meant to be a stand-alone a program where you make neat-o animations.
Since the launch of the Nintendo Channel for the Wii earlier this year, Nintendo has been providing a DS Download Service with demos of released and upcoming DS games. Wii owners can boot up the DS Download Service through the Nintendo Channel and download various playable demos directly to their Nintendo DS, using the Download Play option. It works in the same way as the in-store download stations. The third-party games get updated every week and we've got info on this week's batch to let you know a little more about what you're getting.
The week of September 15
Crosswords DS - Wordsearch
Once again Nintendo plays the Crosswords DS flipflop: Wordsearch was last week, so Anagrams returns in its own demo. The demo features three levels of the Anagram minigame. Players take six letters and try to form them into words of three or more letters using the touch screen. As players find words, the other screen displays them, along with the progress and time. There are a few different letter assortments, so players should be able to play the demo a good three or four times.
Spore Creatures
The Spore Creatures demo is like the DS version of the "Creature Creator." Players can use about half of the total pieces in the game to create their own little critter. After making the creature, players can give it a little test run around a small island to see how it moves. There isn't any actual gameplay, but it will give players a taste of how to make a creation, and what the overall style looks and feels like.
Air Traffic Chaos
Air Traffic Chaos has been on the Service a few times, but is one of the few unreleased games on the rotation. The ATC demo has both the tutorial mode and the first level of the game. It's enough to teach players how to play and let them try it out, but doesn't get into the parts of the game that are actually chaotic. Still it could be enough to pique curious people's interest in this quirky title.
Arkanoid DS
This is the same Arkanoid demo that was on the Service in June. Arkanoid DS is a remake of the classic arcade game. The demo offers five levels, showcasing different level designs. The demo has both D-pad and Stylus control and players can customize the amount of lives and the difficulty. The demo goes until players beat the five levels, or die. The demo levels are pretty easy, but it gives you a taste of what the new Arkanoid is like, complete with plenty of powerups.
Nintendo also keeps a selection of first party titles up for download. They're not cycled out as often and most of them have been there since the Nintendo Channel launched.
Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir
The demo offers one of the levels for the hide and seek portion of the game. Players are given five minutes to find eight items in the level. Upon completion, players can start again, and find eight different items. We played it three times without having to repeat items.
Brain Age 2
The Brain Age 2 demo features three quick play modes. There's the Brain Age Test that will give the player an approximate brain age based on a verbal match of rock, paper, scissors. There's also a quick play training mode that shows off the rotating letters minigame, complete with touch screen letter recognition. Finally the Quick play sudoku lets players enjoy a quick sudoku puzzle in one of the better presentations for the system.
Brain Age
The older sibling of the Brain Age 2 demo. It's the same kind of deal. There's a Brain Age Test minigame that has players shout colors into the DS microphone. The training game is a simple math problem test that uses the touch screen to write. Sudoku is in this one too, which means you've got two free sudoku puzzles you can play if you get both demos.
Flash Focus
Flash Focus is a game designed to improve focus and hand-eye coordination. It features a simplified Eye Age test where players remember the direction letters are facing as they flash by on the screen. The training game is more hands on. It's a baseball minigame where players have to tap the ball to hit it. The pitches get harder each time the player connects with the ball and the game ranks you at the end.
Crosswords DS
For the non-Sudoku inclined, Crosswords DS features the classic crossword puzzles that have been gracing newspapers long before number puzzles. The demo features the classic Crosswords mode, one of three gameplay modes in the final version. Players can select the difficulty of the puzzle, as well as the option to turn on an assist mode that lets the player know if the answer is right or wrong. The whole demo uses the touch screen so players can see how well the letter recognition system works.

You'd think that after recent announcements of Shining Force Feather and Phantasy Star Zero Sega would be all RPGed out. Apparently not! Today, the company partially unveiled an all new RPG, and this one could be even bigger than those two!
The new RPG is... well, we don't even have a name yet! Nor do we have a platform. All we know is what's being shown at this teaser website
According to the site, the game is being produced by Rieko Odama of Phantasy Star and Skies of Arcadia fame, directed by Kazuya Ninou of Etrian Odyssey fame and will feature musical composition by Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage fame. Character designs are by Mota.
The site doesn't offer any clear details on game content, although given the "dragon" in the URL and the silhouetted dragon that appears at the end of the teaser flash animation, it appears likely that dragons will have a part in the game.
With the mention of "Dragon," one is likely to think "Dragon Force." However, Sega has noted that this mystery project is an all new title, suggesting that sequels are out.
We'll find out for sure on the 26th, which is when the title is supposed to be fully unveiled. As usual with the Japanese news, things will probably leak out a couple of days in advance, so check back in the middle of next week.
And in the meanwhile, enjoy those two musical tracks that serve as background music at the teaser site.
CITY shops have been caught out selling knives and ultra-violent video games to underage children.
An undercover “mystery shopper” exercise by Plymouth’s Trading Standards officers saw two 16-year-old buyers test out 34 shops.
Two out of 25 stores were happy to hand over knives to the youngsters while five out of nine shops had no problem selling “18+ rated” video games like Grand Theft Auto 4, to the teens.
Councillor Michael Leaves, Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Environmental Regulation, called the carrying of knives by young people a “a plague”.
Under the Video Recordings Act and the Criminal Justice Act, stores are obligated to ask for proof of age before handing over restricted items.
It was the first time the city council’s trading standards team have targeted games sales and only the second time knife sales have been tested. Last year, out of 23 stores tested, only one failed.
Cllr Leaves said: “It’s vital for shops not to sell youngsters knives and I find it very disappointing that any in Plymouth have done so.
“As for violent video games, I believe they must have a detrimental influence on any children who play them and I would not be at all surprised if there was not a connection with the knife crime issue. Everyone who sells these games must take extra care to ensure they only sell them to those who can legally buy them.”
Lynda Braddock, Trading Standards officer, said the new targeting of games came in light of the “Byron review”.
In March this year TV child psychologist Dr Tanya Byron produced a Government-commissioned review of the impact of violent adult games on children.
She recommended reforming the classification system for video games with one set of symbols on the front of all boxes which are the same as those for film.
Lynda Braddock, who led the operation, said: “The statistics for knife sales are encouraging but it’s still disappointing to find some shops not on board with this issue especially bearing in mind the media coverage on knife crime in recent months.
“And we’re disappointed that the games sellers concerned don’t seem to have taken their training on board or recognised the fact that these games are given a high age rating for a reason.”
The trading officers targeted games which stated they contained violence, including the much publicised Grand Theft Auto 4, which carries a warning about “strong violence, very strong language, sex and drugs references.” Other games targeted included Hitman and Saints Row.
Ms Braddock said: “Games are becoming more and more violent and more and more interactive. Youngsters are using them for four or more hours a day, living the life of a gangster.
“You must lose your shock factor if you’re continuously killing people – and then get rewarded for being violent.”
The two test buyers – a girl and a boy – were also able to buy a 9” to 10” kitchen knife in one store and a pack of four steak knives in another.
Ms Braddock said each of the stores would now be investigated and interviewed to determine what sanctions would be taken. They range from a warning letter, explaining they will be monitored in the coming months, up to the maximum penalty – a six-month prison sentence and/or a Ł5,000 fine.

Since its debut, the Suikoden series has received numerous industry accolades for being one of the top RPG games of all time.
Updates
Extra stuff, menu tweak, editor fixes, yada yada.
And, I think (!) I finally got rid of that random "<-- start" that kept popping up on the menu!!
Levels
6 packs included, 67 levels total!
I've placed Another World's levels in as Another World.. Seemed to fit!
Sir Voe's are in as Sir Voe's Simple Set, even though they aren't that simple!!
Midway
If you get halfway through a level pack (and the middle's at least 5 levels in!) you'll be able to restart from the Midway by hitting B on the menu, instead of A.
DLDI vs Non-DLDI
Folk who don't have DLDI will be able to play.. Woot! But they won't be able to save. Awww..
Those with DLDI should stick the JNKPLAT/ directory into their root so they can save.
Blocks are listed in the Level Editor Readme file that's now included.
(I think I remembered to add them all!!)
As always, submit bugs, comments, ideas, levels, etc..
mcgrew writes with news that a study done by the Pew Internet & American Life Project has found game playing is all but universal among teens, and it provides a "significant amount of social interaction and potential for civic engagement." 97% of teens responding to the survey said they played games (75% played weekly or more often), and roughly two-thirds of teens use games as a social experience. The full report (PDF) and the questionnaire with answer data (PDF) are both available for viewing. From the report: "Youth who take part in social interaction related to the game, such as commenting on websites or contributing to discussion boards, are more engaged civically and politically. Youth who play games where they are part of guilds are not more civically engaged than youth who play games alone."
Gamasutra is running a story about how the "hard" modes in games can be designed to include difficulty, but not frustration. They give some examples of the changes made to several games as their difficulty settings are increased, and they discuss some of the simple options, such as increasing the number of required button presses, or increasing the relevant numbers by an arbitrary amount (a boss on easy may hit you for 10 damage, whereas a boss on hard may act the same but hit you for 100 damage). They also talk about maintaining the "illusion of fairness." Quoting:
"Bungie's Halo series is often praised for its excellent execution of difficult play in the form of its Legendary mode. Not surprisingly, the team took a very well-thought out approach to introducing and tuning difficult play. Halo 3 gameplay designer Francois Boucher-Genesse explains that it's not just a case of one formula fits all. 'It's not like we just cranked every enemy's health by 200% and called it Legendary,' he said. 'There was a good amount of custom changes made per mission as well. In that sense we encourage players with previous Halo experience to play at least on Heroic, since they get to see the game in its full scale
Dragon Ball DS is an interactive retelling of the popular manga/ anime series. Instead of having Goku as an omnipotent fighter, the DS action adventure takes the players back to Goku's childhood, the time when he met Buruma and begins his journey for the 7 dragon balls.
As a full fledged action adventure, elements such as puzzle solving, fights and memorable scenes are fully incorporated. The game makes use of the twin screen feature of the Nintendo DS, keep an eye on both screens as you can attack enemies on the upper as well as on the lower.
The two screens are working as one when the game shows memorable scenes, so expect the fearsomeness of dragons or the hilariousness of the comic elements to affect you at tenfolds.
Aside from the twin screens, the touch screen feature is also fully utilized, drag Goku across the screen the speed at which you drag your pen affects his speed as well. Change from fist fighting mode to weapon fighting mode to activate the different abilities of the character.
In what should surprise absolutely no one, DS title Pokémon Platinum is selling lots and lots. According to data from Famitsu publisher, the game has sold 967,675 copies in the first two days it's been on sale in Japan, which is of course almost a million copies in two days. Gotta sell 'em all, you know.
Ignition Entertainment has scooped up the rights to bring Blue Dragon Plus to DS in both North America and Europe in March 2009.
Ignition says Blue Dragon is a top-rated show on Cartoon Network in the US. We wouldn't know as we've never seen it but we've put plenty of blood, sweat and beers into the 360 RPG. We got to disc two and everything!
The DS version is looking like a 30 hour monster by the way. It was also directed by ex-Final Fantasy man Hironobu Sakaguchi, who fathered the 360 version.
Official story stuff says: "The story of Blue Dragon centres on a young boy named Shu and several of his friends who possess the ability to control phantom shadows that mirror the actions of their masters. In Blue Dragon Plus, one year has passed since Shu and his companions defeated the tyrannical remnant of the Ancients, Nene.
"In the midst of the battle, the world split in two and now consists of a myriad of cubes that exploded from its depths. King Jibral notices a mysterious cube in the distance suddenly start to move violently, and from it he sees the Shadow of a Balaur, a three-headed dragon, emerge. The enormous and sinister Shadow is just the beginning of the new turmoil and devastation to come."
For the last ten years, we've heard the promise of 3D shutter glasses, which when combined with the proper video card drivers and a good display, can trick your brain into thinking that your 2D monitor is creating 3D images. Unfortunately the glasses never really took off, partly because there were rendering problems with many popular 3D games but mostly because monitors didn't support high enough refresh rates to display games without giving people crushing headaches. Nvidia thinks they've solved both problems--the software works much better, and there are a surprising number of supported 120Hz-capable TVs and monitors that ameliorate the headache factor. Maximum PC has a hands-on with Nvidia's new tech, plus details about Nvidia's planned hardware solution

This is NOT meant to be a stand-alone a program where you make neat-o animations.
v0.92.9c has a small bug fix in it... see read me.
Aerthel has today updated his app for the DS, heres the full details;
Hello there! This is actually my first post here but i've been reading the wiki and this forum for quite a time (and i have to say, you have a very nice nds homebrew community here). Some years ago, I began a project called 'Project Sheratan' but it was meant to produce a Flash game. To make a long story short, I didn't have the skills to create good Flash content, so I began searching for another platform to program on. When I learned about this community through a friend, the idea came back again.
-- Project Motivation --
This Project (though is not the same as before, i'm keeping the name) aims to create a Card Battle engine for RPG games on Nintendo DS, mimicking the Baten Kaitos series's card system.
-- Current Project Status Info --
Latest Release: v0.011
Bottom screen Screenshot
Instructions:
* L/R changes the music
* Touch a card to display its name
* Touch a card while holding Down (or B for left-handed players) to discard it
* Touch a pair of cards while holding Up (or X for left-handed players) to swap them
* Touch a character miniPotrait to set him/her as the "selected character"
* Touch a card while holding Left (or Y for left-handed players) to play it
* Once you play a card, a combo will start, and the timer will activate. Try to finish your combo before the time runs out.
* To play cards in a combo, make sure their numbers go in ascending order like 0->1->2->3->4. You can start the combo with any card, but numberless ones won't result in a combo.
* Once the combo starts, the helping system will find the next playable cards and point them.
As always, you can find more info in the last post
Well, people, I managed to make some final adjustments that were keeping me from releasing a stable new build of Project Sheratan , so here it is
Current Version : v0.011
New Features:
* Cards are now playable! Play them in succesion (0,1,2,3..) to make a combo, but be warned, you have a limited amount of time to do this
* As I just mentioned, the combo timer is done.
* The card selection helping system activates when you play a card. If it's a numbered card, it will search your card for the most appropiate cards for you to play next. Obviously, it's just a help, you still need to select the cards to play them.
* The card tray now recieves your played cards and counts them, like the BK Origins battle system did
* The music is now loaded form the EFS, so music files are no longer a problem (build includes 8 tunes to demonstrate this)
New Controls:
* Touch a card with the stylus while holding Left or Y to play the card.
Sorrowxii for his excellent splash screen implementation in Null Void Naruto

This is easily one of the more unorthodox hacks we've come across, and while we have all ideas only a few will even bother to give it a go, we couldn't help but share. Steve from PanoCamera decided that lugging around a laptop for precisely controlled shooting was just too much effort, so rather than throwing in the proverbial towel, he simply figured out a better way. By hacking the DS to play nice with his monstrous Canon, he was able to use the handheld to begin / stop shooting and tweak all manners of settings. For those interested in having one of their own, but completely uninterested in using their innate DIY skills to make it happen, drop ole Steve an e-mail.
At this year's Austin Game Developer's Conference, sci-fi author Bruce Sterling gave a keynote speech about the gaming industry — looking back from the year 2043. GameSetWatch has a summary of the speech, and the full transcript is also available.
"So do people make games for this platform? Sure. Not the sort that were built for flat glass screens. We don't do those anymore, cumbersome, like a covered wagon. We don't pretend a glass screen is a window into another virtual worlds. The idea sounds silly, it's all the same world. It's always been the same world, it just changes. What we do is hang the towel [his metaphor for cheap, ubiquitous, unremarkable computers in the future] up in midair and gaze through it. And all the light that hits the far side passes through it except that the image is tagged and altered. We don't call it augmented reality, because we think reality is real, but you can still have fun with a game interface is that is everything you see."
PALE, overweight couch potatoes. That's the stereotype of avid online computer gamers, but these joystick junkies are actually in better than average physical condition, a new US survey suggests, although they may be less healthy mentally.
Researchers at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, the Palo Alto Research Center, also in California, and the University of Delaware in Newark, quizzed 7000 players of the role-playing game EverQuest II about their physical and mental health. Participants were offered a specially created virtual weapon as an incentive - the "Greatstaff of the Sun Serpent". The researchers then combined the survey responses with statistics about players' online activities and playing habits.
The results suggest that adult gamers have an average body mass index of 25.2, compared to the overall American average of 28. The average gamer also engages in vigorous exercise once or twice a week, which the researchers say is more than most Americans. The reasons for this are not obvious, although the team suggest it may be because more educated, wealthier people are attracted to computer games, and these people also tend to take better care of their health.
"Average gamers engage in vigorous exercise once or twice a week"The downside, however, was that the gamers reported more cases of depression and substance abuse than their compatriots. "They may be drawn to use the game to help deal with emotional distress," says team member Scott Caplan of the University of Delaware.
The work also suggested that young men do not dominate such games, as they are often assumed to: there were more players in their thirties than in their twenties, and older players tended to spend more time in the game. Furthermore, although fewer women played the game, those who did typically played for longer than men (Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, vol 13, p 993).
Mark Griffiths at Nottingham Trent University, UK, has found that most gamers simply exhibit healthy enthusiasm for their hobby rather than obsessive addiction, and says the new results sound about right. But he adds that since the research only studied one multiplayer online game, its conclusions may not be true for single-player console games. "They involve very different psychologies," he says.

Trusty Bell [JPN & ASN versions] is a game that mixes the grace of Chopin's compositions with the excitement of RPGs. As a powerful mafia group, the Bongoles have enemies everywhere, and there is only one way to ensure the family's standing in the underworld: Power.

Activision has fired out a new Call of Duty: World at War co-op movie, which you can check out right here.
Creative lead Rich Farrelly recently told us of the game's online mode: "We recognise that CoD 4 is a great multiplayer game. We would not want to take that engine and then remove things from it.
"We're not going to keep in game types, for instance, that don't fit in with our game setting. But the philosophy of map building, the way the perk system works - that's a great foundation. And then on top of that we'll build new perks, speciality perks, and vehicles."
Read the rest of the interview here and check out the co-op footage here.
Nintendo has lined up a number of new DS bundles for the UK to go on sale in time for Christmas.
All handhelds will be packaged with casual DS games and go on sale next month.
For GBP 120 consumers will be able to get their hands on a White or Black DS with Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training, or a red unit with Big Brain Academy.
A Pink DS console will sell for GBP 130 with a copy of Nintendogs Labrador and Friends or for the same price consumers will be able to buy Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat? bundled with a Blue DS.
Ubisoft has announced the ship date for its next installment in the Prince of Persia franchise. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC title will ship on December 2. This will coincide with the DS Prince of Persia game, subtitled The Fallen King, which is a separate and distinct release from what the consoles and PC will receive.
Announcing cellsDS: A free flexible, programmable grid-based music sequencer for the Nintendo DS. cellsDS is six sequencers in one, with each sequencer being controlled by a user definable Lua script. It is the peculiar anti-social stepchild of the Tenori-On and Monome.
Download it from the download page.
Features include:
* Dead simple user interface.
* Ability to create your own unique sequencer rules using the Lua programming language. CellsDS comes with a developer’s guide and example scripts to get you started.
* 175 sounds are included. With a little work, you can add your own sounds.
* Ability to customize the scale. (All you microtonal nerds will be pleased.)
* Coming soon… Wifi-Midi support.
There are some limitations to the Lua scripts that you can write due to performance issues. Please refer to the Developer’s Guide (included in the distribution) for more details. In short, cellsDS sequencers need to perform briskly - which might rule out things such as doing expensive cellular-automaton calculations.

Nintendo has been hush-hush on any new, big Wii and Nintendo DS projects since July's Electronic Entertainment Expo, but if current rumors are to be believed, that radio silence won't be for much longer.
Word through various sources is that Nintendo is readying a press event in Japan for October 2nd or 3rd. While we have yet to receive confirmation of such event from our Nintendo of America sources, this rumor is strengthened by a two-day event scheduled by NOA for October 2nd and 3rd in the US.
No hints of what the company has planned have been revealed by NOA, but the timing of the Japanese event rumor ties in well with the Nintendo of America event. It's possible that a large-scope announcement or announcements will be made by Nintendo's Japanese branch and relayed to North American press during the scheduled event.

... With "tasteful" minigames. Indeed, Nintendo Power has published the first comprehensive preview of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, according to details provided by NeoGAF poster botticus. The relayed information (in handy bullet-point format), describes Chinatown Wars as a "true GTA game," which is to say, a Mature-themed sandbox game concerned with all things criminal (just like the survey said). The DS technology limits gameplay to an isometric camera angle with cel-shaded visuals, though the load times, draw distance and frame rate are reportedly sound; and weather effects, along with a day and night cycle are in tact. The preview claims there are plenty of on-screen pedestrians and cars -- speaking of: there are multiple radio stations, mostly juiced with instrumental tunes. All in all, "800,000 lines of hand-optimized source code" are packed into the tiny cart.
What else? Chinatown Wars is said to return players to a sizeable portion of Liberty City (wild guess: Chinatown?), though the map has been altered from the console version. Missions also will be shortened and can be easily restarted upon failure. The D-pad is used for aiming, while the R-button activates auto-targeting; and there's "subtle" auto-steering built into the driving controls. The touchpad will be used for the aforementioned minigames, in addition to navigating the PDA-like UI, which includes email, contacts, the map, a music player, GPS, and stat-tracking (stats can be Wi-Fied to the Social Club). Now, how about some, uh ... scans? (Or better: screens! C'mon Rockstar, with this game scheduled to release in mere months, throw us a friggin' bone or two!)

New sales date for console sales in Japan are in as usual, with a change in ranking:
Nintendo DS Lite: 63,859
Playstation Portable: 30,156
Nintendo Wii: 29,686
Xbox 360: 28,188
Playstation 3: 8,053
Playstation 2: 7,669
DS lite goes up roughly 12,000 while PSP slips 3,400. Wii sinks lower down by 4,00 while the Xbox 360 shoots up in sales by 27,000, overtaking both the PS3 (down about 250) and PS2 (down 300).
The slow performance of home consoles in Asian markets outside of Japan shouldn't be just blamed on piracy, according to Nexon CEO Joonmo Kwon.
Kwon is optimistic that there could be a credible console market in countries such as Korea, provided console manufacturers and publishers take the time to understand the specific demands of the separate regions.
"It's true that the issue of piracy has had adverse effects on the development of the console game market in Asia to a certain extent," offered Kwon in an exclusive interview published today.
"However, as you can see by the consistent growth of the music and movie industries in most Asian territories despite such intellectual property issues, you can't really blame the underdevelopment of the console market solely on piracy."
Kwon detailed the performance of the three home consoles, noting that sales expectations for the Wii were lower than anticipated and that PS3 and Xbox 360 figures only make up a fraction of global sales.
"Microsoft's Xbox 360, which boasts sales of 15 million units worldwide, has only sold 150,000 units in Korea in the past two years," he said.
"Sony's PlayStation 3, which has sold 5.5 million units worldwide, has only sold 50,000 units during the past year in Korea. And the Nintendo Wii, which initially was expected to sell more than 100,000 units in the first month after it was released only sold about 40,000 units for almost two months - and the situation isn't much different in other parts of Asia, except of course for Japan.
"However, despite those numbers, the results aren't all discouraging when you consider that these numbers indicate that there is at least a possibility of a console game market in Asia, where online games traditionally had been completely dominant," he added.
Other encouraging signs are similar to growth areas in the Western market – the increased uptake of handheld consoles and a broadening of the demographic to include female consumers.
"You could even say that the situation is pretty much optimistic in general - the new trend has greatly contributed to the expansion of the game user demographics, capturing wider age ranges, not to mention female groups too," said Kwon.
However, if publishers really want success in Asian markets, Kwon believes they must cater to the local demands, and that means increasing online services in regions that expect such features as standard.
"In almost all parts of Asia, excluding Japan, online games have been leading the market growth since the very early stages of the games industry, which is something that indicates users have a strong preference and attachment for the common characteristics and typical features of online games.
"So for the console game industry to succeed in Asia, unlike in North America or Europe, it's extremely important to set strategies that are specifically suitable for the local market,” said Kwon. “Most Asian gamers are far more used to and attracted by interactive games via network connections, and they've long been enjoying the unique convenience that online games offer - such as being able to download and play a wide variety of games for free with a single account from any PC."
He added: "Games which require specific consoles and extra hardware devices, or are stored in a cartridge or CD/DVD-ROM, are purchasable mostly at offline stores and a new boxed product needs to be purchased for each new game that a person wants to play - all of those things simply make console games less appealing to gamers in Asia."

Ignition Entertainment sent us these screens of their new Nintendo DS game Tornado.
I'll spare you the full plot, but it involves Toki and his Cosmic Cleaners collecting stolen items using their tornado machines.
What this boils down to is some quite Katamari Damacy-like gameplay, with a very DS twist as you use the stylus to whip up a tornado that sucks up whatever you have been asked to recover.
Must play hell on your touchscreen - better invest in a new protective film.
Should be a fun weekend, considering this week has been a five-day slice of Hell on Earth, as we alternate bashing our heads against the wall, then drinking ourselves into oblivion to numb the pain. In the in-between, we hope to squeeze in a few minutes of gaming time, actually getting around to that Team Fortress 2 Heavy Update we've been promising ourselves. We were hoping a certain horror game might arrive via the FedEx man today at Kotaku Towers West, but as private delivery company's are wont to do, we plan on being left high and dry. At least there's wild consumerism in the face of increasing economic troubles to keep us occupied!
Anyway, hope everyone's enjoying their schadenfreude! What are you playing this weekend?

Every year, market researchers Interbrand publish a little chart. Amongst marketing types, it's very important. They compile what they believe are the top 100 "hottest" brands in the world, and rank them in order of, well, "hotness". Any and all brand names are eligible, so the top of the list is dominated by names like Coke, IBM, Microsoft McDonalds. But cast your eyes down the list to #40 and you'll see little old Nintendo. No doubt thanks to the continued success of the Wii and DS, they moved up four places from the 2007 list, one spot behind Kellogs and one spot ahead of...Swiss financial services firm UBS. They're the only games-specific "brand" to make the list; both Sony (#25) and Microsoft (#3) are present, but they're of course there primarily for other stuff.

Who knows!
