News from <a href="http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3610&&lsaid=219793" target="_blank" >Lik Sang</a>
<BLOCKQUOTE>Well established as a platform for music and rhythm games, after the recent releases of top-titles Donkey Konga 3 and Donkey Kong - Jungle Beat, GameCube owners are now looking at a confirmed date for the anxiously awaited Dance Dance Revolution with Mario, shipping on July 14th. Having been subjected to adventures that involved a significant amount of jumping (and running!), as well as events such as tennis, golf, kart racing and even brawling in the past, Ninty's most beloved icon might well dress up in his usual plumber outfit again, but this time he literally moves to a different beat.
Nintendo has teamed up with Bemani veteran Konami to unite fans of both the Mushroom Kingdom and DDR gameplay to bring you a title that offers the best of both worlds. Expect a challenging and deep Dance Dance stint, with a strong Nintendo influence: gameplay mechanics are close to what has helped to build a healthy DDR community in the past, while colorful backdrops from games like Super Mario Sunshine and characters like Mario, Luigi and Yoshi as well as a whole troupe of known bad guys render this videogame experience a true Nintendo theme throughout.
This also gets reflected in recognizable tunes and remixes the mascots dance to while aiming at a perfect score in matching the cues given on-screen, which will do away with enemies like Boo that occasionally try to block the rythm meters; timing is the key to eliminate those interruptions. Talking about available songs, there are for instance versions of the main Super Mario Bros. anthem, as well as Super Mario Bros. 2. Although the full list of melodies has yet to be announced, a mix of game and non-game tunes await rythm-hungry players. The selection seems geared toward the whole family, which might be just one reason that DDR with MARIO is likely to be destined to become one of the year's best party games for GameCube. Not to mention plenty of mini-games that provide even more fun you can shuffle your feet to. Split-screen mode allows the dance frenzy to be enjoyed by two players, where while depending on skill, the invitation to sabotage your opponent will certainly prove irresistible.
In order to boost the pleasure of seeing Mario shake his booty to the beat, you can make good use of the dedicated dance mat peripheral that will get released alongside the game. Like him, you might appreciate the opportunity to melt some unwanted pounds resulting from too much Ravioli by getting some fun exercise! Similar to the Tarukonga Controller, in that it provides the right tool for the job in DK Jungle Beat and Donkey Konga games, this dance mat will defintely add to your DDR enjoyment here. It's officially manufactured by Nintendo and features a "Here we go!" logo written across its face; a certain Italian plumber would absolutely feel at home on that one. Gamers can tap left, right, up, down and A or B on the dance pad to the on-screen action, throwing their limbs about beside a whole cast of famous Nintendo characters, who move gracefully to the cheerful music.
Preorders are already open for this unique addition to any GameCube owner's library: Dance Dance Revolution with MARIO JAP will ship on July 14th for just US$ 59.90, eligible for Free Shipping Worldwide and a preorder bonus of 100 Payback Points extra. We assume that the game will supposedly be including the Dance Mat. If, in the future, the game and the dance mat are confirmed to be both available separately as well as in a bundle pack, we will accept preorders for all options.

Nintendo President Iwata has reaffirmed details already released about the upcoming Revolution console. Gamsutra has details from his talk, where Iwata touches on the wireless capability of the Revolution, the designer friendly attitude of the console, and the secretive nature of the console's controllers. From the article: "For the next-generation console, we plan to introduce a friendly user interface so that, for example, a mother who's watching her child playing a game might say, 'Oh, I'd like to try that too.' However, user interfaces are devices that can be easily imitated by other companies, so I can't reveal any details right now.

New hues is good news for Nintendo. With the release of the colored DS models, sales of the handheld are better than ever in Japan. According to sales data obtained by Dengeki Online, Nintendo saw its DS sales rise more than twofold during the week of March 21 to March 27. Sales for the week were 54,000 units, compared to the previous week's sales of 21,000 units.
Nintendo released its new Graphite Black and Pure White color models of the DS on March 24. The company will also be releasing two additional tinted models on April 21--Turquoise Blue and Candy Pink. New colors don't mean a new price. The cost remains 15,000 yen ($139). Nintendo has not announced plans to release colored DS models in the US.

Classic gamers remember the feeling of a fleet of pixelated enemies descending on them while droning music speeds up, indicating a you-or-them situation. The year was 1978, and the game was Space Invaders, one of the most notorious quarter-sucking arcade machines of all time.
Game publisher Rising Star Games today announced that Tomohiro Nishikado, the brains behind the original arcade version of Space Invaders, is personally watching over the development of a DS revision of the Taito classic. Scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2005, Space Invaders Revolution is trying to stay close to the game's original concept.
"Since 1978, Space Invaders has gone through many iterations, some of which have lost the spirit of the original game," says Mr. Nishikado. "With Space Invaders Revolution, I wanted the team to take the game back to its roots, whilst at the same time adding features which would appeal to modern gamers. The result is a game which is as fresh as the original but which will equally [appeal] to those too young to remember the arcade game."
Rising Star also announced new details on the alien shooter. The game will feature a faithful rendition of the arcade version, as well as a modernized globe-trotting "new era" mode. New era adds different elements to the core gameplay, such as power-ups and stage-specific conditions. For example, when defending London's Big Ben, gamers will have to blast invaders in a certain order.
The game will feature 20 different global locations and 60 stages. New invaders, such as giant armored aliens, which must be destroyed piece by piece, and shadow invaders that use cloaking devices, bring the total types of enemies to 13.
Space Invaders Revolution is awaiting rating and pricing information.

Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures may have been a hit to those who played it, but it required up to four Game Boy Advance portables to be connected to a GameCube for multiplayer play. Because of said requirement, not too many people actually got a chance to enjoy the game to its fullest.
For gamers who have wanted to try out the game, there's good news. According to retail sources, Nintendo has announced the Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures on the DS in Japan, though no release date or details have yet surfaced. However, with the DS's wireless capabilities, the new portable probably won't be confined to the same restrictions as the GBA.

More than 500,000 Nintendo DS consoles have been sold in Europe since launch, according to the latest figures released by Nintendo, with Super Mario 64 DS the best-selling game across the territory.
The new handheld, which features dual touch screens and wireless multiplayer gaming, was rolled out on March 11. By Easter Sunday, consumers had snapped up 77 per cent of the units allocated to stores for launch.
Nintendo says games sales have also been "outstanding". More than 250,000 copies of Super Mario 64 DS have been shifted, and the title currently stands at no. 9 in the all formats charts. Sales of WarioWare Touched! are also said to be "extremely strong".
"The launch of Nintendo DS in Europe has been a huge success. European gamers have embraced the Nintendo DS and have left no doubt that it is the new must-have console," said Nintendo's senior director of European marketing, Jim Merrick.
"Nintendo set out to create a new way of handheld gaming, offering an innovative and enjoyable experience and with the new Nintendo DS, we have certainly accomplished this."
Nintendo is expecting strong sales to continue with the release of games such as Yoshi Touch & Go, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, all hitting the shelves in May.

Donnie Russell II has released Mediaevel Quest 1.1:
Mediaeval Quest is based on Warren Robinette's Adventure for the Atari VCS/2600. Released in 1979, Adventure invented the graphical adventure game genre.
This game is not a direct port of Adventure, however; there are significant differences as well as similarities. For version 1.1, I improved the teleportation function (for getting out of tight spots) and added a room customization feature.
Find out more from Donnie's site at: http://www.freewebs.com/drussell/

The Nintendo DS and GBA emulator for windows has once again been updated, heres the news from this release:
<BLOCKQUOTE>Large modifications demand a number change, so welcome to version 0.0.3. Firstly some relatively minor things. I changed the MMU to actually register waitstates with the clock, instead of just adding them to some useless variable; you should notice a little speedup. Also, I've modified the way SWI waits are handled, so they require acknowledgement before they can continue.
Moving up, I've moved the child window creation and handling from the main executable into the seperate DLLs. It was getting ridiculously unwieldy, and starting to clutter up the DLL vTable with entries that could be removed with a small redesign. There may still be a few bugs with the new child window handling; if you come across any, do let me know.
Some of you have commented that the emu has purported to load .NDS files for some time, without actually being able to interpret the header structure. Well, now the DS core can load the seperate CPU executables into their right places and start executing them. I'll leave you to see what loading two binaries means, but just note; it's bugged to high heck, and is unlikely to work in almost all cases.</BLOCKQUOTE>

Although it's not exactly the newest of news (it first broke last year as we remember), word reaches us today via Nintendo carrier pigeon that classic GBA-GameCube connector The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures will be smiting the DS this year at an as-yet-unspecified date.
A classic piece of GameCube and GBA connectivity, Four Swords was a splendid addition to the Zelda legend, but really required you to assemble four of your mates, as well as host of connector cables to enjoy it as its best.
However while details are scant to non-existent on the DS version (the tip came from Japanese retail), it's no great leap of the imagination to suppose that wi-fi connectivity will feature heavily and that you'll be able to randomly accost strangers on a train and recruit them for your Zelda quartet.
An excellent addition to the DS's roster though and we'll bring you more news on Four Swords DS as it's unsheathed.

The Pokemon Corporation will be releasing a special edition blue Nintendo DS to go with the opening of “Pokemon The Park 2005.” Add this to the list of blue DSs; you may remember the Pepsi Twist DS or Turquoise Blue from a couple weeks back. In this new one’s defense, it is pretty hard to get (even for Japanese people). It will be available only at the “Pokemon Park,” a satellite of the 2005 World Exposition currently underway.

Datel has announced the launch of Action Replay MAX DUO, a new product which allows users to access cheats and store game saves for both the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance.
MAX DUO combines both Action Replay for GBA and MAX Drive DS to create an "all-in-one game enhancer".
MAX Drive DS has an on-board memory for storing game saves, plus an included PC application which allows users to back them up to a hard drive. It also enables DS owners to save multiple times even when a game features only one or two save slots.
In addition, users can use the MAX Drive PC application to upload and download game saves via www.codejunkies.com. Datel will also offer 'Power Saves' which users can download for infinite lives, unlocked levels and so on.
Action Replay for GBA comes pre-loaded with 20,000 cheats for more than 200 games, and the cartridge can be updated with new codes in the future.
"Action Replay has built a solid reputation for providing powerful, game-busting cheats at a bargain price," said Datel MD Michael Connors. "Action Replay MAX DUO is the ultimate game enhancer for gamers on the move."
Action Replay MAX DUO is in the shops this week, priced £29.99

Namco today announced that it will be publishing Shogun Warrior: The Lost Army for the DS this October. The game is being published by UK studio Box Clever Interactive.
Shogun Warrior tells the story of two brothers locked in a heated battle in feudal Japan. Gamers will play as one of the brothers vying for the title of shogun, and control armies battling for control over territories.
The game will use the dual-screen feature of the DS by allowing gamers to plan battle strategy using the touch screen while the action unfolds in 3D on the top screen. Minigames such as duels, naval battles, and castle sieges will also play out on the touch screen. Using the DS's wireless capabilities, up to eight players can duke it out in the game's multiplayer.
Shogun Warrior: The Lost Army is waiting rating and pricing information.

After a pretty disappointing showing on current gen consoles, EA's new Bond-turned-bad franchise GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is peering at a new platform in the Nintendo DS, the Redwood giant has announced.
Once again you'll reprise the role of a rogue operative who goes over to the dark side after being booted out of MI6. Recruited by Auric Goldfinger in a war against Dr. No, you'll receive both the titular glittering orb and a taste for all things nefarious in an ongoing battle to rule the criminal underworld.
Slated for release this June, Rogue Agent is set to take advantage of the DS's unique features including seven player wireless multiplayer and a single player campaign featuring six missions. The DS's second screen will apparently be employed as a heads-up display allowing you to check ammo levels, hack electronic devices and weapons, decode security locks, plus a few other bits and bobs that EA is keeping up its sleeve.
"We are thrilled to bring GoldenEye: Rogue Agent to the Nintendo DS and create distinctive new features to benefit from the platform's unique technology," said Jon Dean, Executive Producer at EA Tiburon, who are making the DS version of the game. "Playing this action-packed game on the go and right in the palm of your hands is incredible. Bond fans will not be disappointed."
Let's hope he's right and the DS version can rescue GoldenEye's rather tattered reputation on its new platform.

Those rumors about Nintendo opening up a flagship store in Manhattan—rumors that were based almost entirely on a single job listing somebody dug up—turned out to be true. They’ve confirmed plans to follow the lead of Apple and Sony (and hopefully not Gateway) and open the very first Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center sometime this spring, just a few blocks away from the SonyStyle flagship store at Madison and 55th (which means that Sony fanboys and Nintendo fanboys might be forced to interact with each other in the real world rather than in their preferred field of battle, Internet message boards).

The first time we laid our mitts on the piece of mini-genius that is Yoshi's Touch and Go was last E3. Holed up in the quiet media bit of Nintendo's booth, away from crowds and Z-List celebs, we were quickly charmed by the genius use of a thing as simple as a stylus pen, guiding the fall of a nappy-wearing baby Mario by way of drawing clouds for him to slide down on.
Now the concept has gained an extra limb by way of newly implemented shooting sections. Think of a two screen-high version of Yoshi's Island, then change the control scheme to one of tapping the screen to shoot, drawing on the screen to create clouds for Yoshi to walk on, and tapping Yoshi himself to make him jump and float in the air. Dead simple and painfully addictive.
The premise of the game is simple - you play a series of levels that are split into two key sections; the first section comprises of Baby Mario falling; the second section is the Yoshi shooting and jumping section. Players have to guide Baby Mario, then Yoshi, into as many coins as possible whilst avoiding obstacles and enemies on-path.
To destroy enemies, players must draw a circle around them, which in turn transforms them into a coin trapped within a bubble. The faster the enemy moves, the bigger the coin they become. Trapping multiple enemies at a time gifts a super coin. You can also tap onto a bubble and then launch it toward Baby Mario or Yoshi, so that they instantly collect the coin, though in Baby Mario's level this has the added implication of bouncing him upward, and possibly off or on-path.
Yoshi also has the benefit of being able to jump on top of non-spiked enemies to kill them, but Baby Mario is defenceless.
From what we've played - the Japanese language does somewhat confuse us - your task is to rescue baby Luigi from the clutches of those little wizard fellas from Yoshi's Island. The game seems to be split across four distinct stages, with us only being able to reach the third at time of going to press.
The third level is especially unique as it introduces a pinball-like mechanic that bounces Baby Mario off-path in the falling section, meaning you have to watch the two screens far more feverishly than before. The clouds you draw also last for a shorter period of time. Heaven only knows what lies in the forth level.
To summarise, the game - we're playing the complete Japanese DS version - is wonderfully simple and purist friendly. We fear some may miss the genius clothed in the cute and quirky visuals; and being how short it is in length, we doubt many people would be willing to pay more than 15 for it.
So far we absolutely and unreservedly adore it, but the question remains as to whether Joe and Joanne Public and their shiny pounds will adore it too.
Yoshi's Touch and Go is currently sheduled for release in Europe on May 6. Whether Europeans will receive some kind of tweaked version remains to be seen. Oh, and it's out now in Japan.

The Nintendo DS and GBA emulator for windows has once again been updated, heres the news from the latest release:
<BLOCKQUOTE>I've implemented the screen-flip bit in POWERCNT, so anything that uses that feature should work correctly now. In particular, the ARM Wrestler will appear in its right place, on the top screen. Also, regarding the opening of ROMs, I've attempted a hack at type selection; anything with an NDS extension will load in DS mode, and anything else will open as a GBA rom. I know it's buggy and it will break, but it should help a little.
In other news, Normmatt seems to have finished his configuration editor dialog. I haven't been able to grab his code and take a look just yet, but I shall do so for a release in the near future. That should help matters regarding the config file.</BLOCKQUOTE>

News from <a href="http://hackds.blogspot.com/" target="_blank" >Darkfader</a>
<BLOCKQUOTE>Since the correct initial values had been found for the cartridge encryption, I have not made much progress on it. But now the final phase of cartridge encryption has started.
I mean... need to finish this up because there's more to do. Decrypting the dumped firmware for example. Yeah, you can dump your own DS firmware! Since I was too lazy to write one, grab it here. The firmware is identified as upgradeable but nobody ever tried yet
I only dared to touch the settings and got a nice error message when CRC was incorrect
Anyway, I also cheated on Mario without using that Action Replay DUO. </BLOCKQUOTE>

It's been 1 year now, since I slowly started to lose interest in the project. Since the last update there has been no progress and a lot in my life has changed. Honestly, I stopped coding at all.
Ninphin was never planned to be dead before it's release.
But though, I will release parts of the source code once I get some time. But at least, I learned a lot while coding it and met cool people. I don't have anything more to say. Sorry for those who waited for nothing.

PhoenixRising & Lynx have released a new homebrew demo for the Nintendo DS with sound, heres some info :
"Looks like we are having problems going above 600k.. And, you have to give it a few seconds to load the samples prior to pressing left or right... and for some reason, it doesn't stop playing the sample.. so songs run on, and if the sample rate changes.. well, you'll hear.
But now everything should be in stereo, though it's marked mono in the user interface."

FeaRog's who has released his first Nintendo DS demo over at <a href="http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=5403" target="_blank" >the DS Dev Forums</a> called 3D Model Viewer.
<BLOCKQUOTE>I've been working like a madman since I got my PassMe (about 28 hours ago now), reasonably steep learning curve, but here's what I've come up with. I'll release the source once I've tidied it up a bit - its not terribly readable at the moment.
I think I'm running out of texture memory, you notice it on the later models. Theres a few bugs on the texturing of the 3rd model.
This sort of works on the IdeaS emulator, but not very well. It has z-buffer issues, texture changing doesn't work properly, and the SELECT button doesn't seem to work at all. For full effect, run it on real hardware with the PassMe
Controls:
Touchscreen/D-pad = rotate
A/B = zoom in/out
Select = change model
You can get it here:

Homebrew and Emulation on the Gamecube is now really taking off and it should really be an exciting time for the Gamecube Hacking Scene. Which is the best way for Gamecube owners to run homebrew code, is it by means of the PSO exploit or the SDload program or by installing one of the many modchips now available.
Have your say Here.

Hugh Lowry has sent in a cool beatem-up called Triple Triad:
Hiya - just sending in my game that I made for my final year uni project.
First game I've ever made, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out .
Apologies if the difficulty is a bit misjudged - I've been playing it daily
since last September, so it might be a bit tricky for newcomers.
The game contains good sound effects and music, and is quite playable

The Nintendo DS and GBA emulator for windows has once again been updated, heres the news from this release:
<BLOCKQUOTE>So it seems that the screen-flip implementation in .3b was immensely buggy; maybe the bottom screen moved to the top, but it happened all the time, and what should be on the bottom screen went missing. It turns out I was using a subtract instead of an XOR to flip. A small thing, makes quite a difference. Flip should work fine now.
Interface issues, and I mentioned that Normmatt had a config editor ready to go. Well, it was still in Visual Basic, and under the GPL, so I ended up only taking a general inspiration from its layout. The editor is available on the new Options menu; try it out.</BLOCKQUOTE>

Thought the DS Linkup Nintendo DS tunneling software sounded too good to be true? It was. The whole thing was a hoax, as evidenced by the latest “information” on the “official website.” We’re unsure what the purpose of all of that was other than to really annoy those of us who actually have things to do with our time. So it goes — looks like we’re still waiting for the actual (although still also technically vaporware) DS Online to kick off.

Tim Schuerewegen has successfully hacked the DS' wireless mutliboot features to allow him to load custom DS much like the PassMe method by using custom drivers for Windows and a PCI card.
His post on the gbadev.org forums pretty much sums it up:
Tim wrote:
6 months of work summarized in 2 minutes
http://users.belgacom.net/hyperds/wmb-mario.wmv[3.2MB]
He also released another video with a homebrew demo being loaded instead:
http://users.belgacom.net/hyperds/wm...2d-example.wmv[2.8MB]
Finally some very nice progress on the wireless homebrew front. With dsdev doing quite nicely, i hope that major tutorials will be released in the future, and this site to have links to those examples.
For now, enjoy yourselves and these videos. The future is not far away!!

Just thought that I'd say Sprung is such a fun game!
It's only £20 but easily one of the best launch games for the UK.
Don't buy it if you expect action or guns etc.
This game is one that requires thinking more than anything. It is a really unique but great idea and I love it - in fact i can't stop playing it.
I know some people will put posts up and say that it is rubbish but i think that the game is a bit like marmite - you either love it or hate it!!

November is to witness the release of EA's next Harry Potter game, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which will materialise alongside, and tie in with, the new Potter movie based on J.K. Rowling's fourth book in the series.
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry find himself competing in the Triwizard Tournament against other students of the magic arts, gawping at the Quidditch World Cup and tangling once again with Lord Voldemort. Allowing you to relive many of the scenes from the movie, the game features Harry, Ron, and Hermione as playable characters and includes co-operative play for two.
EA promises "fresh innovations" in the Goblet of Fire game, one of which is a new spell-casting system where every flick of your magic wand apparently sets force-feedback a-rumbling; and the benefit of playing co-operatively is that you get to combine magic to unleash "more powerful spells than ever before!". Wizard!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is weaving its magic on PS2, PSP, Xbox, GameCube, Nintendo DS, GBA and PC.

Despite the reality of EA's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent on console proving disappointing following a ton of hype, the publisher is nevertheless powering full-steam ahead with a Nintendo DS version of the 'villainous' Bond universe first-person shooter. First screens from the DS outing have been released.
Rogue Agent's plot on DS remains the same, with players assuming the role of a bad boy 00 agent kicked out of MI6 who winds up working for Goldfinger and becomes embroiled in a battle for control of the Bond criminal underworld. Hopping around the world in a globe-spanning campaign of action, you'll bump into various famous Bond villains including Oddjob, Dr. No, Scaramanga and Xenia Onatopp.
EA says that Rogue Agent DS contains "All-new features and innovative gameplay" that "are only made possible by the Nintendo DS platform." This in part means wireless multiplayer for eight on only one cart and the publisher using the platform's dual screens to display the game (on the top screen) and the heads-up display (HUD) on the touch-screen.
Apparently, the HUD "provides vital intelligence to players and allows for them to check ammunition levels, hack electronic devices and weapons, decode security locks, and more", with presumably the touch-screen coming into play with the hacking and decoding gameplay.
Rogue Agent DS additionally boasts a new Virtual Training mode where players will be able to earn upgrades for their GoldenEye weapons by beating Bond villains into the dirt.

Natsuja has released a new version of VBA Rerecording which is a version of VisualboyAdvance 1.7.2 that has been modified to make it a proper re-recording emulator.
<BLOCKQUOTE>Here are the recent changes:
- fixes support for motion sensor re-recording [somebody had better make a tilt n' tumble time attack now]
- adds auto-hold (toggle) key commands, for those who get tired of holding the run button all the time
- makes auto-fire better (so you can make it hit different buttons on alternating frames)
- fixes bug with playing a movie that's already open sometimes leaving input at end of movie
- widens the hotkey customizer list so long commands aren't cut off
- adds a warning dialog if beginning recording when lag reduction is off
- reduces the length of some more messages
- makes some menu items never disable so their accelerators don't stop working (workaround)
- tweaked the Recent menu
- fixes display of motion sensor buttons, and hides it when the game doesn't support it
- fixes a sporadic from-snapshot desync bug for the umpteenth time
(About the emulation speed - I am leaving it at 60 Hz for now, mainly because there's no easy way to change it.)</BLOCKQUOTE>

Bandai's latest PS2 action title based on the hugely popular Gundam franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: One Year War, has debuted on top of the Japanese charts - but sales of the game have been disappointing compared to predecessors.
One Year War sold around 159,000 units in week one, a decent figure for any debut but still far below the performance of the last "Original Gundam" based game, Encounters In Space, which sold 359,000 units in week one back in 2003.
Bandai had obviously expected a better reaction to the title - only 36 per cent of shipped units were sold through during the week, which is very low for a chart-topping title.
Several other new releases made it into the top ten ranking this week, with another Bandai anime-based title at number two, as Saint Seiya: Chapter Sanctuary sold around 89,000 units, while Konami's Pro Baseball Spirits 2 sold around 55,000 units to come in at number three.
The entire top ten ranking is dominated by PS2 titles, with only one DS title breaking up the listing - Nintendo's own Kirby Canvas Curse DS at number six, just behind Tekken 5 at number four and Winning Eleven 8: Livewire Evolution at number five.
In hardware terms, the Nintendo DS outsold the PlayStation Portable for a third week running, taking 26 per cent of the market compared to 25 per cent for the PSP, a difference of just over a thousand units in real terms.
The DS continues to have by far the largest installed base of the two, thanks to a major head-start in late 2004, and while the difference in sales this year has been significant - around 140,000 units - the PSP still has a long way to go to catch up.
In terms of home consoles, the PS2 continues to rule the roost, holding some 33 per cent of the overall market this year - while its nearest competitor, the GameCube, languishes on just three per cent.

for ten straight hours without a recharge.
Meteos is the most compellingly perfect puzzler we've played in years. It blends the tactical simplicity of Puyo Pop with the high-adrenaline kick of a decent shoot-'em-up.
The concept is simple, but brilliant: clear away falling, coloured blocks by launching them into space. Connecting three of the same colour creates a rocket-powered platform that lifts off, carrying with it all the blocks directly above it.
"Meteos blends tactical simplicity with a high-adrenaline kick"
Clearly, you want to build the platform as low down as possible in your pile of blocks, so it removes more clutter from the screen.
But if you try to launch too many blocks the rockets won't be able to clear the planet's gravity field, making it barely halfway up the screen before beginning to get dragged back down to earth.
That's when you have to start creating further reactions within the hovering platforms by rearranging the blocks they contain or flinging more blocks into them from the pile of spares below.
You can also set up chain reactions by arranging everything so the blocks return to the ground and settle into an instant group of three.
This gives the biggest possible rocket boost but runs the risk of accumulating a lot of heavy debris from above, as you have to wait a few seconds until the platform touches down.
Too much debris and you'll need to spark off even more explosions to get the thing moving. If your launch fails, the blocks eventually lose their 'platformness' and turn back into random clutter.
Multiplayer games get wickedly competitive, with everyone desperately trying to launch huge platforms in the face of a deluge of junk blocks from the other players.
The solo modes consist of time trials, endurance tests or battles against virtual players, with new game types as rewards for progress.
There are countless variations, each with subtle differences in gravity, block behaviour and the explosiveness of each type of combo. Depending on the rules you're playing with, connecting three blocks might launch the platform just a few pixels into the air, or completely vapourise it in an instant.
You can only play the default set of rules in the single-cart link-up mode though, so each player will need their own copy of the game to experience it fully.
Not that there's a single valid reason for any DS owner not to own this one.
When you find yourself dreaming restlessly of rocket-powered blocks after a midnight Meteos marathon, yet still try to squeeze in a couple more goes on the bus in the morning, you'll know you've found a game with that rare spark of magic. Don't forget to keep your battery charger handy.
Meteos is out now in Japan and will be released for DS in the UK this summer
Overall: 5/5

Draw Pac-Man - the sharp angle of the mouth, then his round body - and he'll animate and move off in the direction you drew him facing.
Guide him towards the roaming ghosts by drawing walls in front of him: the direction you draw the wall is the direction in which he travels.
That's the simple premise behind this game, and it captivated the crowds when the DS was first playable at last year's E3. But there's more to Pac-Pix than that.
"Pac-Pix is one of the most memorable games you'll ever play"
It's much cleverer than we originally thought. Although stages are essentially a collection of ghost hunts (catch them all to progress to the next stage) many factors complicate that process.
To begin with, there's a time limit, and it gets fairly strict in the latter stages. So you need to create multiple Pac-Men to make your ghost-catching more efficient.
You also have to think about the size of your Pac-Man. Bigger ones have a larger catchment area but move more slowly, so you need a team of screen-filling and speedy Pac-People, working together.
And there's more. The top screen has a little pathway that loops back onto the bottom screen. This area is normally locked, and Pac-Man must hit a switch to get access to the ghosts that are hiding up there.
The top screen also has a number of ghosts floating in unreachable bubbles. These must be burst with arrows, which you draw. They fire off in the direction you draw them and can also be used to shoot at bosses.
You must also draw bombs to break open ghost-trapping blocks. This all creates a number of dynamics that have to be used together if you're going to succeed.
That's quite a lot to think about, and part of the challenge is keeping track of everything that's going on.
The fact that failure on any stage means replaying an entire level again can be extremely frustrating, especially when you're learning how best to approach a situation. But the sheer originality and inventiveness of it all inevitably wins through, making this one of the most memorable games you'll ever play.
Pac-Pix is out now in Japan and will be released in the UK for DS this summer
Overall: 4/5

BoyScout v.1.0 has been released!
Quote from http://www.pidelipom.com/boyscout/...
My prayers were answered and I have now recieved help fixing the channel 3 playback library bug. My greatest appreciation goes to Dave Murphy (WinterMute) for doing this. This version includes a modified tracker EXE which aligns the channel 3 waveforms properly in its .BGF file output. That together with a change in the order in which the bit flags for controlling channel 3 are set, have brought BoyScout to a final version 1.0 milestone.
Please download the latest v.1.0 distribution from the downloads section.
I'd also like to direct people to WinterMute's devkitPro page, which includes a library called libagb that now contains the fixed BoyScout playback routines. In the project's CVS is also a compiling example of BoyScout playback.

Hi all,
Some of you may know that I've been writing a filesystem in my free time. Well, I've got it to a point where I'm happy to release it, so here is!
http://www.geocities.com/codefiend.g...lesystemR1.zip
Included is the source for the filesystem generation tool, and a simple demo program that uses it.
Note that it doesn't run on any emulator that I've tried, only on real hardware.
Its pretty easy to use, since I've modelled the interface on the stdio one.
All data is loaded straight from the GBA cart, so no longer does your program's data have to be linked into the binary and copied into RAM on startup!
Enjoy!

Sappharad has posted this news about his Gamecube Emulator for the Gamecube:
<BLOCKQUOTE>Yesterday I fixed the controller issue. You can now plug in a second controller at any time, go to the controller config screen, and hit start to enable it.
I might consider doing a small maintence release in the near future. (I know I said I would do one about a month ago, but... I was busy, and the controller bug was discovered) This release will likely include the controller fix, and the fixed sound.
SD card support and new video code to fix the tearing problem and allow for games that use high res mode (which I dont know of any, could someone tell me of one?) will need to wait until a later release, because they'll take time to do.</BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes, it's a virtual pet -- three virtual pets, actually, since the player names, raises, and trains three realtime 3D pooches. They'll respond to voice input through the DS microphone (with which you can assign them their own names), and go about their doggish business around the clock while the DS is in its sleep mode. If two sets of Nintendogs are in close proximity, furthermore, they'll passively communicate through the handheld's wireless hardware unbeknownst to either owner.

Speculation on Square Enix's planned DS title in the Secret of Mana series has been given a stir after it was revealed that the company has filed for a trademark on the 'World of Mana' name. Is the name of the game heading to Nintendo's new handheld?
Well, it's all guesswork at this stage with SquEnix keeping lips firmly sealed. There's a brand logo for 'World of Mana' which you can see on the right of this page, but unless there's a hidden message in there somewhere it sheds zero light on anything.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see but hopefully it won't be too long as the company has a huge announcement shindig in the pre-show E3 warm up. We hope to find out more then.

Nintendo has lifted the lid on its plans to equip the Revolution with totally wireless technology. The next-gen console will communicate with controllers, peripherals, online gaming services and other Nintendo hardware using technology developed in partnership with US firm Broadcom.
While the primary use of such technology is wireless online access the Revolution could also use it in other more unusual ways. A big part of the Revolution's, um, revolution could be directly linked to its wireless features.
Robert A. Rango of Broadcom hints at this. "Broadcom is pleased to partner with technology leader Nintendo, whose visionary commitment to the user experience has inspired new uses for established wireless technology," he said.
Wireless controllers are only the tip of the iceberg. Imagine wireless body sensors picking up your every movement and translating it to the screen... Crikey, we're drunk with speculation.
The DS is also expected to take advantage of Broadcom's wireless technology. An online DS multiplayer system has been mooted by Nintendo for months now and will be finally unveiled at next month's E3.
Even more exciting than that, Broadcom's wireless technology will enable simple connectivity between Nintendo hardware. While it remains unconfirmed, we'll eat our stylus if the Revolution and the DS aren't connectable wirelessly. Or is the GBA 2 waiting in the wings...?
Nintendo reckon Broadcom's technology will enable the Japanese giant to continue revitalising the games industry. "The depth and breadth of Broadcom's wireless expertise will enable Nintendo to deliver the industry's most innovative gaming solutions," said Genyo Takeda, head honcho at Nintendo's Integrated Research & Development Division for Nintendo.
"By integrating Broadcom wireless solutions into our next-generation systems we can provide the high performance gaming and connectivity capabilities that will delight gamers," said Takeda-san.
Broadcom's wireless features include BroadRange, which increases the range of wireless devices by up to 50%, and SecureEasySetup, which lets you set-up your wireless network securely and easily. And without spaces.
Nintendo will reveal its full online and wireless plans at next month's E3. We're expecting some earth-shattering announcements. You'll get them here first.

Speaking of Nintendo, the word on the street is that contrary to what everyone was expecting/hoping, they’re actually not going to be showing off their next-gen Revolution console at E3 next month. Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata is reportedly concerned that the console is so filled with mind-blowing awesomeness that he’d rather wait until it’s closer to being released to show it off rather than risk competitors stealing all their great ideas. Oh, and it probably doesn’t hurt that they’d be jockeying with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 for everyone’s attention. Anyway, this is still unconfirmed, but supposedly they’re only going to show off a few Revolution demos and focus on the Nintendo DS (and its wireless multiplayer gaming capabilities) instead.

In March, Nintendo announced it was releasing its popular DS handheld in a quartet of new colors: Graphite Black, Pure White, Turquoise Blue, and Candy Pink. The catch? They were only coming out in Japan. Unless they felt like importing the models from Japan, it looked like American fans of the dual-screen portable would have to make do with the standard, black-and-silver "Titanium" model for the foreseeable future.
So it came as a pleasant surprise today when Nintendo of America announced the "Western hemisphere" would be getting a special DS color of its own. In June, the all-new Electric Blue DS will arrive on US shores in June as "a permanent color in the DS palette." Given than the introduction of just two new colors doubled DS sales in Japan, its likely America will see the portable in different hues in the future.
In a prepared statement, NOA senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications George Harrison span the new shade of handheld as a major event. "Nearly two million Nintendo DS owners in North America alone have demonstrated they want something new from a handheld video game system," he said. "Soon, consumers will have two popular choices for the innovative dual-screened Nintendo DS."
Besides the six aforementioned tints, the DS is also available in several different color schemes in (sometimes very) limited quantities--again, only in Japan. Besides a co-branded light blue Pepsi DS and a metallic blue Pokemon-themed DS, Nintendo gave away 10 special edition DSes emblazoned with original artwork from the DS game Electroplankton.

The next release will be version 1.1.1
It will have:
- Fixed music in Sonic and a few other games
- 2 player working with SDload
- A quit option if booted with SDload, otherwise it'll just restart your GC.
The first two are already done. The third one I started adding earlier today, I just need to find an easy way to check for SDload.
After 1.1.1 will probably come 1.2, assuming I dont need to do another bugfix release. I want to add a fix for the video problem, and loading games from SD card to 1.2 for sure, anything else is a maybe, otherwise it'll be thrown off until a later release. The author of the Dreamcast port contacted me back in December and told me he has written code to allow saving, so maybe after I get SD card loading working, I'll try saving.
Of course, anyone is welcome to download the source and add it themselves, I could include it in a new release.

Resisting Nintendo's urge to touch has proved tricky on occasion, with the Dual Screen handheld proving pretty darn successful in just about every territory across the globe.
Okay, the PSP may eat into its lead when it eventually makes a splash in Europe later this year, but ultimately it's all about the games. And wouldn't you know, a brand new great big DS games list has been doing the rounds today, which we present below for your delectation.
Although there are few surprises amongst the 200-plus titles here, there's certainly many delights with Advance Wars 3 now confirmed for DS, as well as the splendid Katamari Damacy and a Metroid Pinball title all DS-bound.
Other delights include the improbably named Frogger Helmet Havoc (make up your own gags) and Caduceus Surgical Operation which will be of particular interest to one C&VG writer who has strange and unhealthy obsession with surgical games.
Of particular interest is the TBA (to be announced) column which figures down the bottom, where we see a Team Ninja game is promised. Splendid.

News From <a href="http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3619&&lsaid=219793" target="_blank" >Lik Sang</a>
<BLOCKQUOTE>These days if it isn't on a portable console, turn based RPG's are hard to come by. Since the SNES for example, there hasn't been any home editions to Nintendo's famous Fire Emblem series, just several handheld versions. GameCube owners are already deprived of RPG's in general, but now they get not just one, but a turn based strategy game at that. From the developers of Advance Wars, Fire Emblem puts you in the role of the blue haired swordster, Ike. Across the many war stricken states of Tellius, Ike strives to become a full member of his fathers Grail Mercenary Group.
You'll lead your band of loyal mercenaries against mages, monsters and madmen of the rival kingdom, Daein, and gone is the old 2D look, replaced by 3D and impressive in battle effects. If you'd prefer to keep the pace of the classic titles however, you can always turn those close up attack cut scenes off. Intelligent Systems have also included more nods to the series rich linage, such as fonts you'll recognize, and even some sounds from the classic SNES title. Meanwhile there's a new skill system, letting you select what your troops learn, secret skills, new units that can change form mid-battle, and more upgrades. But do the changes pay off? Famitsu's impressive 34/40 Gold Award would say they sure did!</BLOCKQUOTE>

The next-generation Nintendo console, codenamed Revolution, may not be shown at this year's E3. Eurogamer reports that the Japanese console maker is going to keep the console under wraps to keep the features of the new system out of the limelight a little while longer. From the article: "Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata is worried about rivals nicking all his best ideas at this early stage. That's how revolutionary the new console is, apparently... and also the exact same line Nintendo used to avoid showing Mario 128 at a previous E3."

Technology firm Broadcom has announced that it is to provide wireless networking technology for Nintendo's forthcoming Revolution console - preliminary details of which are expected to be revealed at E3 next month.
The company is one of the market leaders in both Wi-Fi networking and Bluetooth systems, and it's possible that its technology will be used both to connect the Revolution to networks and to connect wireless controllers to the console itself.
"The depth and breadth of Broadcom's wireless expertise will enable Nintendo to deliver the industry's most innovative gaming solutions," enthused Genyo Takeda, senior managing director of Nintendo's research and development division. "By integrating Broadcom wireless solutions into our next-generation systems, we can provide the high performance gaming and connectivity capabilities that will delight users of Revolution."
Nintendo has previously confirmed that Revolution will offer wireless networking - with president Satoru Iwata indicating to an audience at the Game Developer's Conference last month in San Francisco that the online gaming service set to be rolled out for the Nintendo DS later this year is a clear pointer to where the company plans to go with Revolution.
That online service is expected to make its public debut at E3 in Los Angeles next month, where Nintendo has also promised an early glimpse at Revolution - although just how much of the console will be revealed is subject to speculation, with reports from Japan suggesting that Nintendo will choose to talk software rather than revealing the hardware.

Nintendo has confirmed that sales of the DS handheld console in North America are rapidly approaching the 2 million unit mark - and is planning to launch a new Electric Blue version of the hardware there in June.
However, there's been no indication as yet from Nintendo of Europe about when new DS hardware varieties will arrive on these shores, with a spokesman confirming to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon that there are "no plans at present, and no announcements have been made" regarding the Electric Blue model.
The numbers from North America mean that the DS, which launched before Christmas, has sold around twice as many units in the territory as the PlayStation Portable, which launched in late March with an initial shipment of a million units.
Nintendo will undoubtedly be hoping that with the arrival of a new colour, it will be able to replicate its recent sales success in Japan, where the launch of two new varieties of DS hardware spurred the console to overtake week to week sales of the PSP for the first time since the start of the year.
The firm is also lauding the launch of two key software titles for the DS in June, with Kirby Canvas Curse arriving on June 13th, followed by the eagerly awaited Meteos - the latest title from Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguichi's Q Entertainment studio - on June 27th.

A project to try and expand the way we think about the devices we have in our homes already. I hope to deliver the potential for a new market, specifically software to help teaching and learning in the primary school classroom.
This is e-Learning with the GameBoy Advance.

Loopy has been working on his DS firmware patch, and we just did a test run. The patch, with the clever name of FlashMe, works perfectly for the testers so far. It boots DS homebrew automatically if it detects it (hold select to override) in about 0.1 seconds. Expect a public release soon.
For those scared of connecting the sl1 bridge we have good news, it will stop flashing if you don't short properly, and it will continue automatically when you re-bridge it. Do NOT, however, turn of your DS before it says patching is done, that will brickify your DS.
FlashMe can be run from Passme, or from WifiMe. After the flash you do not need these methods to boot homebrew, of course.

This page is currently for beta testers only and might screw your DS. Please report any problems.
What is it?
Currently it is a firmware patch that allow you to start from GBA cartridge without requiring a PassMe in the DS slot.
To be more exact, it contains a small fail-safe program that can be activated by holding SELECT+START+A+B buttons at startup which starts from GBA cartridge without initializing the system. After the fail-safe check is done, some bigger program is loaded that initializes the system and checks for the gamecode "PASS" or title "DSbooter" on the GBA cartridge and automatically runs from there unless the SELECT button is pressed. In all other cases, it tries to load the original firmware.
You can remove the patch again by running the update program again.
How do I get it?
You need to register to download it. But first, flash getID.ds.gba on a GBA flashcard and boot it using PassMe or WifiMe.
Follow the instructions on the display and note down the ID that is displayed and fill it in the registration form. It is not case-sensitive and these characters are the same: 1=I, 0=O, 8=B...
Currently, you need to register for each DS you own. This might change later.

<BLOCKQUOTE>Originally announced as one of the earliest titles for Nintendo's new glorious handheld, Tomy's next videogame instalment of the Naruto saga has finally been released. After excitement levels skyrocketed following the official notice in Japanese Shonen Jump Magazine some time ago, dedicated fans have impatiently waited for Naruto Saikyou Ninja Daikesshuu 3 to arrive on Nintendo DS. It's great to say that the game turned out to be a title which was worth looking forward to, spinning the tale further which began on past versions for GameBoy Advance, offering unique gameplay features and improved graphics due to the one-of-a-kind architecture of the NDS hardware.
All preorders for Naruto Saikyou Ninja Daikesshuu 3 have been cleared already and new orders are very welcome for only US$ 49.90, of course eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion!
Since the Naruto series began two and a half years ago, there have been almost 125 anime episodes, not to mention the 250+ manga comics, many games across GameCube, PS2 and GBA, plus the Japanese hailing it as the next Dragonball. No surprise then, that the three titles available for GameCube alone managed to sell a total of over a million copies combined. It's clear that if there's just one anime waiting to burst onto the world scene, it's Naruto, and this year the series finally hits America via Cartoon Networks Toonami line-up. Naruto arrives late 2005, but also worth noting is One Piece, starting in May.
In Naruto 3 for NDS you are watching the action on the top screen, while the stylus comes into play on the bottom one, allowing you to direct chakra (energy) and execute attacks. That's what we love so much about the Nintendo DS, you are freed from solely relying on buttons or pad to manage the in-game action. A simple flick of your wrist often feels more natural when facing the challenges you are presented with than it ever could with standard controls. Furthermore, players can perform dazzling fighting techniques like the fireball oriented Goukakyuu no jutsu by blowing into the system's built-in microphone. Switch between characters and watch their stats on the lower screen, where chakra and health bars are conveniently displayed. Prepare to meet all your favorite Ninjas, including Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Shikamaru and Kiba.
Hidden Leaf village is again at the center of all things storywise and main hero Uzumaki Naruto keeps on doing his best to become the number one martial arts head honcho there. Now, you can also stockpile your trusty weapons and are not left to use just one at a time anymore. Light-footed Naruto is blessed with various fresh moves, he kicks off from walls to do a higher jump, is able to attack while squatting and (right out of a Matrix movie) can run vertically up walls, temporarily defying gravity.
Since an English edition sure can't be expected anytime soon, we definitely recommend getting the Japanese version now, which is simply a great game not only for passionate Naruto enthusiasts, but for anyone who can appreciate a novel take on fighting gameplay, which Naruto Saikyou Ninja Daikesshuu 3 for NDS certainly delivers with a refreshing twist. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Following on from previous details of the console versions of The Sims 2, where we revealed Mario would be making some kind of appearance in the Gamecube version, we've now got our hands on three brand new DS screens.
Immediately noticeable, after the disappointment of the graphics quality, is how unique and easy to play this version should be thanks to DS's touch-screen and stylus.
Icons present themselves on the touch-screen allowing players to simply and speedily tap through to where they want to be, without the pain of cycling through menus as they would with console versions.
We expect this to be massively popular for DS, even if it doesn't look particularly dazzling. But as any gamer will tell you, it's the gameplay that counts not pretty graphics. A statement that applies as much here as it ever has done before.
The Sims 2 is due for release sometime this autumn

In his keynote address to the Game Developers Conference 2005, Satoru Iwata laid out Nintendo's plans to not only appease its core audience but to introduce new types of experiences that gamers "may not even know they want."
At the fore of this charge is Electroplankton, Toshio Iwai's latest synaesthetic foray from the art world into the game world.
Well known and highly regarded as a studio artist - though not yet the most household of names - Iwai has been deftly blending light, sound and tactile interfaces in every medium, including games, for two decades.
"Players interact with musical marine life as seen through a microscope, which responds to the player's touch or voice commands"
Otocky, his first commercial title, was a Famicom Disk System musical shooter in precisely the same fashion as Rez, predating it by some 15 years.
Iwai was also the driving force behind Maxis' SimTunes (reborn from the ill-fated Super Famicom project Sound Fantasy), PlayStation 2's 'scribble performance' game Bikkuri Mouse, and a small handful of mobile phone and non-commercial WonderSwan works.
With DS, it appears that the hardware has finally caught up to where Iwai's heart truly lies, and Electroplankton is an accumulation of the interactive experiences he's been experimenting with in a gallery setting all his life, mass-produced and topped off with happy-face accessibility.
In it, players will interact with 10 different phyla of musical marine life (autonomous musical creatures being one of the most prevalent themes in his art) as seen through a microscope, each of which respond uniquely to the player's touch or voice commands.
The San-animalcule, for instance, act as simple trackers, responding with a sequential melody based on their position on the touch-screen.
While the Tracy and Luminaria follow the paths laid out by stylus strokes or by manipulating directional gates, all creating something between symphony and dissonance according to the actions of the user.
Others, like the Rec-Rec and Volvoice, allow for four-track beat-boxing and similar vocal interactions, and - in a fitting tribute to its publisher and to the hardware that first inspired the artist - the aptly named Beatnes allow you to lay down 8bit beats and effects over Mario's invincibility-star theme.
All footage of the game shown thus far points toward a highly engrossing and hypnotic experience, if a solitary one.
There's no word yet on wireless communication with, or accompaniment from, fellow plankton, and the package - as with Band Brothers - is rounded out with a free pair of headphones, leading us to believe that this is a title in which the explicit purpose is to lose yourself.
Accompanying the release of Electroplankton will be an exhibition of the game itself at the Laforet Museum Harajuku, creating a full circle - a lifetime of Iwai's collected gallery works, condensed to a game, and back to the gallery again.
Electroplankton is out for now for DS in Japan. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed

“Tohoku University Future Technology Collaborative Research Center’s Professor Ryuta Kawashima Presents Memory Training For Adults” is probably the longest game title I’ve seen in a long time, but this isn’t exactly a game. Rather, this software utilizes the handwriting and voice recognition features of the Nintendo DS so users can solve simple calculation and spoken problems. Working these simple problems will help to improve memory, should you “forget people’s names often” or “have left things behind recently.” Furthermore, a maximum of 16 players can compete in 30 question quizzes.

Looks like we’re going to be busier than we thought during E3 next month. Fragland reports that a source within the company has confirmed that, contrary to earlier speculation, Nintendo will indeed be showing off their new next-gen Revolution console at this year’s E3 gaming expo. Even if they do have a console to show off it probably won’t be playable, but if this turns out to be true it means that Nintendo definitely are not going to let Sony and Microsoft hog the spotlight at this year’s E3.

News from <a href="http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3623&&lsaid=219793" target="_blank" >Lik Sang</a>
<BLOCKQUOTE>Our friends in Japan love dogs. They also love dog movies (no less than four cinematic canine offerings between 2002 and today), dog postcards, dog screensavers, and thanks to Nintendo and the Nintendo DS now also dog based videogames. Nintendogs is actually not a game to be exact, it is a virtual pet simulation that comes in three different versions.
According to Lik Sang's very own web site popularity rankings, the clear leader of the pack is Shiba & Friends, followed by Chihuahua & Friends and Dachshund & Friends.
Import Experience:
When you start the game, you will have to choose the breed and if you want a male or female puppy. The first think you'll have to take care of, just like in real life, is finding a name for your dog. You'll have to use the voice recognition feature to tell the dog its name, and try to make him or her remember (this can take a couple of times). When a light bulb shows up, the dog is usually in the mood to learn a new voice command. One of the next things will be to teach the "sit down" command and so on. After that, it is basically completely open what you'll be training your dog next. Shaking its tail or "shake paws". You can also take a walk to the park and buy a Frisbee on the way, or meet and play with other dogs.
Please note that Nintendogs is using the internal clock of the Nintendo DS system. If your dog is too tired after playing for a couple of hours, you have to turn off your NDS for a day and give her some rest. After playing for too long, your dog might also get a bit impatient and unwilling to learn new things.
Nintendogs is an entirely open-ended experience with a lot to discover over the life of the puppy, which is something that's incredibly hard to gauge after merely a few hours of play. At the very least, this is one title to watch. Beautiful graphics, fun voice recognition, and it's just too darn cute to resist.
While the Nintendogs menu is nearly entirely in Japanese, the visual clues in the game it's not hard to figure out how to get started - as you can see on the screenshots below. Import Gamers have definitely had more difficult titles to deal with, and it's still a lot of fun playing with even if you don't speak Japanese.</BLOCKQUOTE>

<BLOCKQUOTE>* 2 Player works with SDload
* Music in Sonic is the right speed now
* The game genie code entry screen isn't difficult to control anymore
* I completely forgot to mention this on the site, but I added a quit option too. If you boot from SDload, you quit back to Sdload, otherwise it resets the GC.
There's also been another minor change. As promised, the DOL maker source is now included, and the checksum failed screen has been replaced by a MAME style disclaimer (and a health and safety warning, just because I had room for it).

Kids these days, eh? Now it's all about stealing cars, dirtying your dinker with prostitutes (then murdering them for your chump change, natch) and shooting puppies in the face.
But back in the good old days of videogaming we pleasured ourselves by climbing on happy rainbows and collecting fruit for points. If only we could get back to all that is good and wholesome in games...
Thanks to newly-formed publisher Rising Star Games, we might get the chance. Reports suggest that, flushed with the old-school kudos of bringing Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble to the DS later this year (both with trendy 'Revolution' subtitle), Rising Star is also preparing to unleash the joys of Rainbow Islands on Nintendo's handheld.
If you don't recall the original it was a deliriously happy little platform game where you had to climb up rainbows to escape a flood. Hang around too long and your rainbows would dissipate and drop you into the rising tide, often causing some desperate scrambles to get to the top of the level. Lots of addictive fun and not a hooker in sight.
Reps from Rising Star were unable to confirm Rainbow Islands' existence, but since it's the spiritual successor to Bubble Bobble we think it's a pretty safe bet.
No details are available on the proposed DS version of Rainbow Islands but we guess you'll be able to draw your rainbows with the stylus. The dual-screened set-up will also suit the game's vertical play area perfectly.
Rising Star is also bringing the Harvest Moon series to PS2 for the very first time this October, alongside the Cube version of Oh Wonderful Life. Friends of Mineral Town on GBA will also be available this June.
But it's the old-school fun we're excited about. Just for a minute why not stop bludgeoning grannies with pickaxes and tell us what other classic eighties games you'd like to see brought to DS in the forums.
Rainbow Islands Revolution should be available later this year.

Last week we brought you a gaggle of goodies about the New Legend of Zelda game heading to GameCube later this year. Guess what? We've got even more!
First up, we still don't know the full name of the new Zelda. Speaking to US mag EGM, producer Eiji Aonuma wants to keep it secret for the moment but has promised that it will seem very strange and will only make sense as you uncover more about the game.
Facts are similarly scarce about where this new Zelda game fits into the series' plotline. Again, Aounma-san wants to keep it secret for the moment, and even went as far as saying that it wasn't totally decided yet. And what about the New Zelda's Wind Waker or Majora's Mask - the magical element that adds a whole new gameplay style to the game? Again, it remains under Nintendo's covers. The latest speculation points to something that lets you communicate with animals, or possibly some kind of magical telescope that lets you see the world of the spirits.
But forget about all that. Here's some proper info! You'll play a mid-teens Link who lives in a village called Toaru on the outskirts of the Hyrule Kingdom. The people of Toaru are proud cattle farmers, hence the whole horse/cow theme. Expect plenty of cowboy-like references and experiences.
Link comes from a cattle-ranching family who sell their animals to the Kingdom of Hyrule, as well as other neighbouring towns and villages. Every year these villages meet for a conference, and one year Link is elected to go and represent Toaru. However, something happens as Link travels to the event, and the adventure begins...
Importantly, Nintendo wants to give players a huge expanse of land to play within, with wide-open terrain to traverse if you want to get anywhere. The horizon will stretch far into the distance. That means destinations will be far away from each other but huge forests, rivers and buildings can also be placed within the landscape. Think the Wind Waker's endless seas replaced by rolling meadows and prairie land.
The combat system will remain extremely similar to the Wind Waker, which Aonuma-san sees as almost perfect. Rather than change it a number of new moves have been added, including new jumping attacks, and the counter system has been sharpened up.
Riding on your horse (which will take up a large portion of the game) will be controlled with the analogue stick, with taps of the A button selecting how fast you ride. While on horseback you'll be able to swing your sword with button presses or fire arrows in first-person view using the shoulder buttons. For true Wild West-style action you'll even be able to kick people off their steeds and ride off into the sunset.
While these details have us salivating, we expect to be properly gushing after Nintendo unveils the New Legend of Zelda at E3 next month. We'll bring you all the latest from the show.

As we all know, the interweb is a wonderful place full of speculation, conjecture and extrapolation, but while some rumours are easily identifiable as spurious wibble-speak, other sniffets of info emanate from altogether more reliable sources - like the web log of a former game producer at EA's Canadian HQ, for example.
In his most recent blog, Brooke Burgess pieces together a speculative synopsis of the Revolution's features corralled from his dealings with various industry insiders, and it certainly makes for intriguing reading.
A cursory glance reveals no great surprises - there's mention of gyroscopic control, touchscreen integration and a proprietary PDA device as part of the controller. All good stuff, but nothing revolutionary as far as the gaming public would be concerned.
He's assured in his belief that the console will ship with wireless controllers, which again isn't a cosmos-shattering revelation, although he reveals that his "sources" suggest that the Revolution's wireless technology will go "well beyond mere controller connection and into the realm of some serious data transfer", such as Revolution to DS, Revolution to PC and Revolution to Revolution across wireless LANs (local area networks).
However, by far the most intriguing piece of 'unconfirmed but wouldn't it be great if it were true' gossip concerns the console's display technology, which he suggests could involve 3D image projection. Could this really be a possibility?
Well, considering Nintendo's past creation, namely the 32-bit Virtual Boy which could, in Nintendo's own words, "produce a 3D experience", it's certainly not a concept completely beyond the stratosphere of possibility.
Considering it alongside the other mooted features - 3D combined with motion sensitive controls - and the Revolution could truly be a revolutionary console.
Of course, before we get too carried away we must remind ourselves of the source of the information - an ex-EA employee's blog (and self-confessed Nintendo advocate) and that his suggestions of what the Revolution might be like are constructed entirely from presumption, guesswork and Chinese whisper, as he himself points out.
But still, he's obviously someone who knows a lot of people who know a lot of people, and it does make you wonder what delights Nintendo might have up their stereoscopic sleeves for the Revolution.
As always, only time, and E3, will tell.

First class postage is included in the price, but to keep costs down only orders of 5 or more are insured/trackable.
Since a BIG part of the cost is paypal and postage fee's, the price / game goes down quite a lot when ordering several games...

DS can do direct bitmap color sprites. I wrote a little demo to show how to do this. It makes a direct color sprite, a 256 color sprite and a 16 color sprite, all three rotating. I included a picture of it working on hardware since none of the emulators emulate it properly. (something to work on for them)

Wired reports about four skydivers who decided to give the Nintendo DS wireless capabilities a try while they were freefalling. 'The four sky divers proved that an ad hoc network set up using the wireless functions of a Nintendo DS works perfectly at distances of nearly 400 feet while falling 120 miles an hour,' states the article."

Sony finally unveiled the European release date and pricepoint for the PSP this morning, and Nintendo was quick to react with a stinging barrage of sales figures and new game release dates.
The PSP will go on sale across Europe on September 1 (full details here), a full six months after the DS's release on March 11. Nintendo has already shifted over 200,000 units in the UK alone, with the worldwide DS sales figure now nudging 3 million.
Nintendo seems unphased by the forthcoming arrival of the PSP: "Nintendo believes that competition is healthy and vital to industry growth," said David Yarnton, managing director of Nintendo UK. "The Nintendo DS is out now; retailing at £99 and with over 200,000 consoles sold in the UK in just over six weeks, the Nintendo DS has firmly cemented itself as firm favourite with UK gamers."
We're tempted to say "Oooh, hark at 'er," but then we love a bit of cross-company sniping. It's just a shame we have to wait until September for the handheld wars to kick off in earnest.
And to really rub salt in Sony's delay wounds Nintendo announced release dates for three new DS games that will hit shelves months before the PSP launches. Retro racing game Ridge Racers DS will be available from June 3, quick-on-the-draw stylus masher Pac-Pix will launch on May 20, and touchscreen and mic-bothering RPG Another Code: Two Memories will be out on June 24.
Other high-profile DS game launches include Yoshi Touch & Go on May 6 and Need for Speed Underground on May 27. Nintendogs, the puppy training game that has us wagging our tails every time we see it, doesn't have a release date yet but Japanese magazine Famitsu has just given it a coveted perfect score. Good boy!
We'll bring you the latest on the handheld showdown as it happens.

Namco Hometek today announced that Pac-Pix has shipped to retail outlets for the Nintendo DS. The game stars Pac-Man, one of the legends of the gaming industry in unusual territory--a puzzle adventure.
The Ghosts have returned to haunt Pac-Man with more nuisances, and it's up to him to do what he does best--eat 'em. After a wizard creates "ghost ink," everything subsequently drawn with the fluid turns into ghosts. Pac-Man tries to trap the ghosts in a book using his own trusty pen, but gets stuck in the book along with his foes.
"Pac-Pix lets players express their creativity through the DS’s stylus and touch screen by drawing Pac-Man and a variety of items to track down pesky Ghosts," said Yoshi Niki, Business Unit Director at Namco Hometek Inc. "People have been drawing Pac-Man for 25 years, and we now have the capability to let players bring these drawings to life in an all-new adventure."
Gamers will wield the DS stylus as Pac-Man's pen, and control the hero by drawing walls that direct him one way or another. As the game progresses, both ghosts and Pac-Man will travel between the dual screens. In order to attack enemies on the top screen, gamers will doodle arrows and fire them upward, coaxing the specters to the lower screen and into Pac-Man's gut.

Speaking with US publication Electronic Gaming Monthly, in their most recent issue, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed more details about the current Legend of Zelda work in progress.
According to Aonuma, the team working on the new Zelda has tweaked the combat system used in Wind Waker and introduced some additional attacks. The critical counter move will make a welcome return - an inclusion that made Wind Waker's combat feel like well-rehearsed and choreographed routines.
Link will also have the ability to Doolittle, or talk to the animals, although Aonuma didn't disclose how he would communicate with his furry little friends. We'd imagine that this would be a core feature of the game that is performed using a specific item, much in the same way that the ocarina and wand were both central to Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker respectively.
Anyone who enjoyed a relaxing spot of fishing at Lake Hylia in Ocarina of Time will undoubtedly be pleased to hear that players will be able to indulge in some rod action.
In terms of the story, Aonuma confirmed that poor old Zelda needs rescuing (again), and - surprise, surprise - the evil Ganon returns (again).
The new Legend of Zelda title will be out for Gamecube later this year

Here is a demo showing off the functions:
1) gluSphere
2) gluCylinder
3) gluDisk
4) gluPartialDisk
5) good ole Dovoto's textured cube
All have the ability to be textured inside and outside.
I have a bit more optimizing to do on the texture side...but I think I have the functions working pretty well. These functions will only work with GL_NONE (not smooth or FLAT), and GL_FILL (no point or line mapping?)
Press A to change the figure (or z on the PC):

The Nintendo DS took a strong lead in the Japanese game hardware ranking last week, with the platform accounting for almost 53 per cent of all hardware sold thanks to the launch of new coloured versions and key new software titles.
Sales of the platform are believed to have hit around 96,000 units for the week, compared with just 33,000 for the PlayStation Portable, as software including Nintendo's own Nintendogs and Tomy's latest Naruto game arrived for the console.
The top-selling software title for the week was Square Enix' PS2 RPG Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, which sold around 217,000 units but was completely sold out at many retailers, according to market watchers Media Create, and should sell strongly again once it is restocked.
Nintendo's GameCube strategy title Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki was at number two, with around 108,000 sales, but in real terms it was outsold by DS exclusive title Nintendogs, which racked up 181,000 sales in total - an amazing number for a title on such a recently launched platform.
However, since the game was launched in three different versions (Shiba, Dachs and Chihuahua), these three were tracked as separate products - meaning that the puppy simulation title took places four, five and six in the chart, rather than being listed as a single product at number two.
Tomy's latest game to be based on the hugely popular Naruto anime franchise, Naruto: Saikyou Ninja Daikesshuu 3, is another DS title which performed incredibly strongly this week, popping in at number three in the chart.
The performance of the Nintendo DS this week, combined with its strong performance in the past month following the arrival of the first batch of new colours, has narrowed the sales gap between the two new handheld consoles significantly.
Year to date sales for the DS stand at around 675,000 units, while the PSP has racked up around 758,000 units - and of course, the DS entered the year with a massive lead in Japan, most of which it still retains.
Aside from the DS' 53 per cent market share this week, the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable had 18 per cent share apiece, with the Game Boy Advance on six per cent and the GameCube just shy of five per cent.

Since the Nintendo DS debut in December, Nintendo has, in various news articles, said it was searching for new ways to broaden the appeal of the handheld gaming platform to consumers outside the traditional gamer demographic.
In an interview published in the current issue of Japanese business magazine Zaikai, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said, "We would like to have as many people as possible to try out the DS. For that reason, we are searching for outlets to sell the DS aside from video game stores."
"Around the same time that I became president of Nintendo," Iwata continued, "the video game industry entered into a period where its traditional methods of market expansion were no longer working." Unfortunately, Iwata did not elaborate on what new retail methodologies the company is exploring.
Despite Nintendo's desire to expand the DS's appeal, the handheld is still selling well. Yesterday, the company announced that at the end of March, worldwide DS sales had passed the 5 million mark.

You can only upload/execute (commercial) code that has been signed by Nintendo using wireless multiboot because the firmware verifies the 1024-bit RSA signature. It is impossible to generate our own signatures because we do not know the private key. However, it *is* possible to remove the signature check by modifying the firmware. This means that you will be able to upload/execute homebrew code without the need for a GBA flash cart on a modified Nintendo DS. Only downside is that you will need to modify your firmware first using passme/wifime and GBA flash cart.
