Several third-party publishers are planning to exhibit Nintendo DS titles at the Tokyo Game Show later this month, ensuring that the forthcoming handheld will have a presence despite Nintendo's decision to abstain.[br][br]Both Sega and Square Enix have confirmed that they will have software for the Nintendo DS in their booths at the show, with each publisher confirming one title apiece for the platform.[br][br]The Nintendo DS is expected to launch in Japan in November, but Nintendo has chosen to eschew an official presence at the Tokyo Game Show in favour of a number of smaller nationwide promotions aimed at getting the device into the hands of as many potential buyers as possible.[br][br]Square Enix will be showing off Egg Monster Hero at the show, an RPG which utilises the touch screen capabilities of the console for its battle system - however, as it's based on the Hanjuku Hero series of games, which has never been released outside Japan, it seems unlikely that it'll ever make its way to the west.[br][br]Similarly, Sega's offering is unlikely to leave Japanese shores - titled Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru (literally translated, "I Would Die For Your Sake"), it is a dating simulation (renai game) with 2D hand-drawn illustrations, surprisingly developed by former members of Sonic Team. While it might be an unusual departure for the team, it's worth bearing in mind that Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima cut his teeth on the Tokimeki Memorial series of dating games...[br][br]Several other publishers are also expected to show DS titles, although details have not yet been announced. There's also a possibility that Sega and Square Enix could extend the range of DS titles on show - Square Enix in particular is set to show a new title from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles creator Akitoshi Kawazu, which could be the new Crystal Chronicles title for the DS, although equally it could be the rumoured GameCube title that his team is rumoured to be working on.

Hi there! I've noticed that a few of your GBA Emulator screenshots are the exact shots used on my site, GBAFan
Examples:
uFCA menu (via GBAFan)
uFCA menu (via your site)
Goomba menu (via GBAFan)
Goomba menu (via your site)
and the list goes on..
To compare screenshots, feel free to visit the emulation page on GBAFan and look for yourself. There are quite a few.
Now, I don't really mind you using my screen shots, in fact I'm quite flattered. However, I would appreciate you asking, or at least giving credit where due. I'd even settle for a link or something. We're sister sites, after all.
In closing, I don't want you to take down my screenshots or anything silly like that. I'd just appreciate some acknowledgement in some form. I leave it to you.
Cheers,
Rosary

News from Lik Sang [br][br] If you have been following the history of the GameCube in the past two years, you might remember some rumors about a new memory device in development at Nintendo, to solve the GameCube's memory problems. Nintendo is working on a new memory device, they said. Secretly, and something completely new. Most people and news sites forgot to mention that there was already a solution to the problem, the GameCube SD Adapter, released in Japan only. The rumors disappeared as fast as they showed up on the news sites, and when Nintendo released the Memory Card 1019 in the USA a couple of month ago, most people couldn't even remember them anymore. Well we did, but nothing exciting was released at the end.[br][br]Here in Hong Kong, we usually develop our own solutions to the memory problem of nowadays console. Not only in form of lots of inexpensive third party manufactured Memory Cards, also with lots of devices that allow you to swap game saves with your friends and upload or download them from the Internet. These adapters are available for most of the consoles, including the GameCube, PlayStation2 and the Xbox.[br][br]One of the companies here in Hong Kong just made the gamers life a bit easier again, by announcing a Memory Card for the GameCube with 2042 Blocks (that's 34.62 times more than the Memory Card 59 released with the GameCube, and still twice the size of the biggest you will get from Nintendo, the Memory Card 1019). And the good news of all this: The Memory Card 2043 will be roughly a third cheaper than the biggest from Nintendo.

Source = Nintendo DS News [br][br] Several major American e-tailers including EBgames are all taking pre-orders on the Nintendo DS, giving the console an end-November 2004 launch date and a price tag of just under $200.[br]GameStop and EBgames both state a November 29 shipping date with a $199.99 price-tag, while Wal-Mart reckons it will launch a day later and is charging potential consumers a bizarre $199.82 for the privilege. [br][br]The former two sites are also taking orders on a selection of titles, with the likes of Animal Crossing, Egg Monster Hero, Final Fantasy Chronicles and Metroid Prime: Hunters mooted by GameStop as potential launch titles with a December 7 release date. EBGames, however, appears to list all titles at March 1 - a slightly dated estimate, perhaps?[br][br]While there has been no confirmation from Nintendo of America on the matter, the consistency amongst American release dates does suggests they there could be some possible 'insider/retailer' knowledge at work - after all, end-November was always anticipated for those territories. We shall have to wait and see.[br][br]However, what Nintendo has definitely confirmed (at the Tokyo Games Show, that is) is a Nintendo Japanese DS tour for November, which will enable the public to enjoy a hands-on with the console and various titles ahead of its release. Five cities have been confirmed as destinations thus far - Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, Sapporo and Fukuoka (try saying that last one after a few beers).[br][br]Interestingly, some reports have translated the tour name to read as the Nintendo World Touch! DS tour, suggesting that various other cities will soon be getting a taste of the DS. However, a Nintendo UK spokesperson said that "nothing had yet been announced" when asked about forthcoming public UK appearances, which left us none the wiser at just what the manufacturer has up its sleeve.

Nintendo of Europe is planning on following the recent American GBA SP price slashing with new hardware incentives and re-pricing all of its own, say trade press reports.[br]According to industry publication MCV, "one senior retail source" has told it that a GBA SP price-cut to £69.99 would be happening within the next two weeks, while a value-added promotional bundle is mooted for the GameCube.[br][br]Speaking to Nintendo earlier, a spokesperson for the company refused to give us any specific details, but promised that the company would be "making an announcement on all European Nintendo plans for the GBA SP and GameCube very soon, hopefully within the next week or so."[br][br]When asked whether these plans would include price-cuts or promotional offers, they refused to comment, but we guess it shouldn't take too much working out.[br][br]Nintendo will be releasing details very soon, so keep tuned for the latest developments.

News from Lik Sang [br][br] We have good news for all who pre-ordered Pokemon Emerald. The game arrived at Lik Sang today, two days prior to its release in Japan. Fans can expect new designs for the two main characters, alongside the return of Team Aqua/Magma as they struggle against Groudon and Kyogre.[br][br]Pokemon Emerald features 7 new tournaments, such as Battle Frontier which takes place in a giant amusement park. Others include Battle Dome which challenges players to fight through the entire tournament with just 3 Pokemon, whilst Battle Tube requires players to fight through a labyrinth and choose the correct exits. Other additions include the use of unique animations when Pokemon are sent into battle, whilst we're led to believe that trainers will occasionally jump into battles when you're not expecting them to. Pokemon Emerald is scheduled to make its debut in Japan in two days (September 16), at the forthcoming Pokemon Fiesta 2004.[br][br]Pokemon Emerald comes with a free Wireless Adapter and is in stock and shipping for $49.90. All pre-orders are being processed while this article is published. The title is eligible for our Free Shipping Worldwide promotion, just as any other newly released import game.

Following on the heels of a similar price cut in the United States earlier this month, Nintendo of Europe has today announced that the GBA SP is set to drop to UKP 69 from September 24th, giving the handheld a pre-season boost.[br][br]The UKP 20 price drop will be followed by the launch of two key bundle deals in the run up to Christmas - with a Zelda: Minish Cap limited edition pack arriving on November 12th, followed by a Mario vs. Donkey Kong limited edition pack on November 19th.[br][br]Both packs - which feature a golden GBA SP and a red-topped GBA SP respectively - will retail for UKP 89, the same price that the GBA SP alone sells for at the moment.[br][br]"With Game Boy Advance SP now available at this great new price, we are making it much more accessible to a broader range of gamers, especially our younger fans," explained Nintendo's senior director of European marketing, Jim Merrick.[br][br]"With so many fantastic games available on the Game Boy Advance and plenty more to come in time for Christmas we want everyone to be able to have a Game Boy Advance SP," he concluded.[br][br]The Game Boy Advance has sold over four million units in Europe since it launched here in March 2003, making it into the fastest selling console of all time in this territory. Nintendo hopes to build upon that success this Christmas, and is launching two new Pokemon titles - Pokemon Leaf Green and Pokemon Fire Red - as well as Zelda: The Minish Cap and Mario vs. Donkey Kong in one of the strongest first-party line-ups yet seen for the platform.

TOKYO--TV ads for the soon-to-be-released Nintendo DS will begin airing in Japan tomorrow, according to sports journals Sports Houchi and Saneki Sports. The ad will feature popular Japanese music star Hikaru Utada, one of the best known female vocalists in Japan. This won't be Utada's first time getting involved in videogames as she is known for lending her vocals to the main theme to Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts. Coincidently, the vocalist will be making her American debut next month with a new album, "Exodus". [br][br]The DS spot documents Utada's first look at the Nintendo DS sans rehearsals, with her new song, "Easy Breezy", running in the background. [br][br]Although it's unlikely that the DS will come out until the end of the year in Japan, Nintendo is already prepping consumers for the impending launch.

There's a million things you could do with the touch screen functions on Nintendo's DS, but we never imagined we'd be rubbing beans.[br]That's exactly what'll be happening in Puyo Pop though, since Sega has announced that it's bringing the bean dropping puzzler to DS. Making full use of the handheld's innovative touch-screen feature, you'll be able to prod, push and tickle beans across the screen until they burst. If you don't fancy getting your fingers dirty you can use the stylus, or if you're feeling really frigid, the D-pad.[br][br]The bottom screen will be used exclusively for the play area with the top screen displaying all the less important stuff like score, stats and the crazy Puyo Pop characters we all love.[br][br]No details on multiplayer yet, but we imagine Puyo Pop will use the DS's wireless features to allow link-up play, especially when the recent Puyo Pop Fever on PS2 and GameCube was so geared towards competitive action.[br][br]Puyo Pop DS is expected to put in an appearance at next week's Tokyo Game Show, so all being well more details then.

Was hoping to find one on ebay but no luck. Any ideas where broken Gamecubes are laid to rest? There must be a pile of bust cubes somewehere with a stack of redudant cables to go with them! Why do nintendo have to make life sooo difficult. PS2 cables are so easy and cheap to get hold of.

Looks like DS could be the weapon of choice for Soul Calibur fans. We've heard rumours that Namco is preparing a handheld version of the legendary Dreamcast beat 'em up.[br]The DS version is expected to be a direct port of the original Dreamcast game rather than last year's awesome PS2, Xbox and Cube sequel. While this probably means Namco aren't planning any DS-specific features, the thought of battering our touch screen fills us with a fist-twitching sense of aggression. Until we break our DS on the bus, that is, at which point we will weep like small children.[br][br]And what about a special edition Soul Calibur stylus like Astaroth's axe, Kilik's bo stick, or Nightmare's massive sword? [br][br]Namco have declined to comment on this at the time of press so this one's still firmly at the rumour stage. Our fingers are crossed.

Lik Sang have posted a massive amount of news concerning the Nintendo DS, heres just a snipett of it:[br][br] Microphone Port & GBA Cartridge Slot accessible for DS games[br][br]Here we go with some more confirmed tech details: the second port right next to the (standard) headphone jack is a Microphone. As you can see on the user guide above, the NDS seems to have a built in "MIC" and an external microphone can be connected as well.[br][br]Furthermore, developers confirmed that the GBA Cartridge Slot is accessible from within NDS games, which opens the door for all kind of new developments. Just imagine an NDS game that could take over your saved game from the GBA cartridge, or get all your collected characters from the battery save of the GBA game.[br][br][br]Worldwide Wireless Voice Chat through Nintendo DS[br][br]It's been reported in an electronic entertainment industry update, that the recently revealed "headset" port on the Nintendo DS will be used in conjunction with the built-in wireless 802.11b network to offer voice-over-IP (VoIP) chat, allowing gamers to use the DS to make free phone calls at wireless network hotspots.[br][br]It's not know at this moment of time if this just works openly over the internet with industry standards, or if this will be some kind of Nintendo proprietary service users will have to subscribe. From the technical point of view, the unit could connect us all for free over the internet. It's also not yet known if this allows NDS to NDS chat only, or if VoIP gateways can be used to call normal telephone lines. [br][br]The rest of the quite long and inforamtive newspost can be found at Lik Sang

The launch date, price and software line-up for the Nintendo DS in Japan look set to be confirmed early next month, with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata set to take the stage at a press conference in Tokyo on October 7th.[br][br]The company chose to eschew a presence at the Tokyo Game Show once again this year, leaving third party developers to fly the flag for its forthcoming handheld at the event next weekend, but had been expected to announce details of the DS around the time of the show.[br][br]Instead, it will now hold a major press conference in early October, where full Japanese details of the console's launch are expected to be announced. The company has however started advertising the DS on Japanese TV - with a new advertisement featuring popular Japanese singer Hikaru Utada promoting the virtues of the system's touch screen.[br][br]Iwata will be joined on stage at the press conference by Nintendo's game design legend Shigeru Miyamoto, who is expected to demonstrate some of the first-party titles which the firm has been creating for the new hardware.[br][br]The Nintendo DS is expected to launch in North America within days of the Japanese launch, but the price point of the console remains under wraps for now. Most retailers are taking pre-orders at around $199, but it's widely expected that the console will launch at a lower price than that - with $179 and $149 both being touted as likely prices by different sources over the past few months.

Lik Sang have posted a mass of new images of the Nintendo DS and posted a mass of information too:[br][br] Nintendo also released a more complete fact sheet on the hardware. A few notes caught our eye, and we wanted to be sure to point out some bits you may have missed.[br][br]Top Screen: A backlit, 3-inch, semitransparent reflective TFT color LCD with 256 x 192 pixel resolution and .24 mm dot pitch, capable of displaying 260,000 colors[br][br]For comparison, the GBA screen resolution is 240 x 160. So the DS screens are going to have a similar pixel resolution at a slightly larger size, but the difference comes in with the huge increase in the color palette: 260,000 from the GBA's 32,768.[br][br]Wireless Communication: IEEE 802.11 and Nintendo’s proprietary format; wireless range is 30 to 100 feet, depending on circumstances; multiple users can play multiplayer games using just one DS Game Card[br][br]Again, Nintendo reiterates the wireless range and multiplayer functions, but they're still not revealing anything about their proprietary wireless technology. What does stand out here is the first use of the term "Game Card" in reference to DS media. Not that many people ever used Nintendo's "Game Pak" moniker, but it does suggest that the media is more similar to a card for your digital camera than a traditional cartridge. Nintendo also gladly repeats that the DS can handle single-card multiplayer. Let's hope that the increased specs allow it to be used more often than it was on GBA.[br][br]Controls: Touch screen, embedded microphone for voice recognition, A/B/X/Y face buttons, plus control pad, L/R shoulder buttons, Start and Select buttons[br][br]This is essentially retreated water from E3, but it does confirm that there is an internal microphone embedded, even if external mics are released later.[br][br]Input/Output: Ports for both Nintendo DS Game Cards and Game Boy® Advance Game Paks, terminals for stereo headphones and microphone[br][br]All the input and output terminals are listed here, and there's no GBA link port to be found. The press release completely nails the coffin with this phrase: "compatible with single-player modes". So backwards compatibility clearly isn't the biggest goal with the DS, but it does allow Nintendo to toss new gadgets in the slot and play around a bit with connecting software, not to mention touting the hundreds of titles already on the shelf at launch. After the DS is on the market though, are you really going to regret not being able to use cables?[br][br]Also, that "mystery slot" next to the headphone jack is certainly the external microphone port listed here, as photos clearly show an image of a headset with microphone attached. After single-handedly revitalising the superhero game with a cracking PS2, Xbox and GameCube version this summer, Spider-Man 2 is ready to spray his web fluids all over Nintendo's DS.[br]Activision have announced that that the game will be a launch title for the DS, putting it on US shelves from November 21 and making it the first game to be confirmed as available at the system's release.[br][br]No firm gameplay details or screens at the moment, but Kathy Vrabeck, president of Activision publishing, did say "the nature of the dual-screen technology allows us to deliver more interactive and intuitive gameplay experiences on the hand-held than ever before". [br][br]We reckon this clever PR speak means you'll be able to chuck webs by touching the screen and stuff. You can't fool us, Kathy. And while it's pretty unlikely that the DS could handle the sprawling representations of New York seen in the console versions, the N-Gage version of Spider-Man 2 did some nifty all-singing, web-slinging 3D levels alongside scrolling 2D sections.[br][br]We'll bring you more on DS Spider-Man 2 as soon as it scuttles out from under the floorboards.

Further details of Nintendo's launch plans for the Nintendo DS handheld console have emerged in a US teleconference, with the firm raising its projections for shipments of the handheld to over four million units this fiscal year.[br][br]Originally, Nintendo projected that it would ship 3.5 million units of the DS to retail before the end of its current financial year in March 2005, but it has now set four million as its target - and believes that it could exceed this, depending on manufacturing capacity.[br][br]That volume of units may be required, as the company plans to back up the launch of the DS with the largest marketing campaign in its history - with a $40 million spend planned for North America alone in the first six months.[br][br]The DS campaign, which will encompass advertising in print, TV and cinema as well as outdoor campaigns and the placement of 12,000 DS pods at retail outlets across North America, will target an older demographic than the Game Boy Advance did, according to the company.[br][br]No details of the launch software line-up for the console have yet been announced - we expect those to emerge at the company's planned press conference in Tokyo on October 7th - but it has been confirmed that a demo of Metroid Prime: Hunters will ship with the system, while the PictoChat application will be built into the console itself.[br][br]Analysts have largely responded positively to Nintendo's price and launch plans for the DS, with American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy describing the price points for the GBA SP and DS as "a solid combination to not only reach the kiddie market but also the 18-to 30 year-old demographic," and noting that the company's four million unit projection may actually be a conservative one.

Nintendo has opened a new Web site for its DS handheld gaming machine in Japan. The site hosts two commercial ads that are currently running on prime-time Japanese TV shows, and wallpapers for hardcore fans that just can't wait to get their hands on the machine. There's also an as-yet-unopened section called "What's DS!", which will have a video clip about the various functions of the handheld as well as an introduction on games. [br][br][br]The Nintendo DS is hitting America on November 21 at the price of $149. The handheld will launch in Japan a few weeks later on December 2.[br][br]http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/

Hey, I know im kinda jumping the gun here, but are there any talks of porting say snes9x or mame or anything like that to the DS? I know only the most basic about the technical side of emulation, but it seems more than powerful enough to handle anything up to 16bit. what about neo geo? if somebody could pull that off I'd buy em breakfast and a prostitute. Also, it atleast makes sense to me that if you had one of those GBA flash cards that lets you store your own roms on it, the DS would play it, right? Anybody able to shed some light on the subject?

Even though the company was a TGS no-show, Nintendo's stock price shot up early this week, reports Bloomberg Japan. Nintendo's share price rose 2.1 percent, or 260 yen, to 12,760 yen on the Monday following Tokyo Game Show. Financial analysts in Japan are debating whether the rise in share price was directly influenced by the events of Tokyo Game Show or simply coincidental. [br][br][br]Nintendo shares are traded on Japan's Nikkei Stock Exchange. [br][br]KBC Securities' Hiroshi Kamide noted that investors might have simply been looking for something stable to buy. "Nintendo's shares are probably being purchased as defensive stock, a stock that tends to remain stable during difficult economic conditions, since the company's performance is stable and the market is hitting a low," Kamide told Bloomberg. [br][br]But UFJ Tsubasa Securities analyst Kei Oka painted a different picture. "People that were disappointed after seeing Sony's PSP and its games [at TGS] may now be anticipating the Nintendo DS," he said. While Sony Computer Entertainment had over twenty PSP games at the show, many of them were still in the early stages of development. And although analysts did not seem to have any issues with the hardware itself, they questioned whether Sony could indeed release the PSP by the end of the year with a solid third-party game lineup. Questions regarding the PSP's battery life and price went unanswered at TGS as well. [br][br]Whatever the reason, there may be additional movement in Nintendo's share price on October 7. On that day in both Japan and North America, the company will have a media-only event that will introduce the DS's final form factor and update the software line-up that will compliment the new handheld's launch.

News from Nintendo DS News [br][br] Nintendo today released the final look of the North American retail packaging for its upcoming Nintendo DS system. As expected, the box design emphasizes the included demo of Metroid Prime Hunters, with a large logo and artwork of main character Samus Aran breaking up the otherwise subdued silver-and-black box art. [br][br][br]The announcement went on to mention that the demo would include several single-player modes, as well as the previously announced four-player wireless multiplayer demo. The game's genre has also been confirmed to be "first-person adventure," signifying that the full game should feature a full, robust single-player adventure akin to the console Metroid Prime titles. [br][br]The left-side panel of the box, meanwhile, features an image of the PictoChat software that is embedded into the Nintendo DS hardware. The text on the box reads, "Draw, sketch, write, and send wireless messages with the built-in communication tool, PictoChat." [br][br]The Nintendo DS is scheduled to be released on November 21 with an suggested retail price of $149.99. Full details on the system's lineup of launch titles are expected to be revealed at press conferences at the end of next week in the US and Japan. [br][br]Check out for screenshots of the package Here
