Welcome, December, and welcome, new Nintendo Switch firmware update. We have officially reached firmware version 11.0.0, and it brings with it more than just stability. Firstly, you now get a Nintendo Switch Online icon added to your home menu, which allows quick access to anything NSO related. The album has also been improved, as you can transfer screenshots directly from your Switch to a smartphone. As of this update, users will also be able to prioritize which games they wish to have downloaded first, when downloading multiple games at once. For those concerned over homebrew access, for now, it’s advised to not update to 11.0.0 until a new version of Atmosphere is released.

Nintendulator 0.985 beta (2020/11/30) is released. Nintendulator is an open source Win32 NES emulator written in C (plus some assembly optimization). The original goal was to emulate the NES down to its hardware quirks; though it's fallen behind over the years, recent builds have caught up once again and can emulate certain behaviors most other emulators neglect to handle. However, this emulation precision comes at a price - a 1500MHz (estimated) or faster CPU is required to emulate at full speed.
Supported file formats include .NES, UNIF, FDS (fwNES format), and NSF. Mappers are handled using external DLLs, complete with extra sound channels for most games which provide them. Other notable features include writing to FDS images (by storing the differences in the SRAM folder), Game Genie support (limited to 3 codes), customizeable controllers (including 4 player), input movie recording and playback (with re-recording), AVI capturing, and a debugger.

m64p (2020/11/30) is released. m64p uses mupen64plus-gui, a brand new mupen64plus frontend written in Qt5. It supports all thing things you’d expect from a frontend (savestate management, pausing, screenshots, etc..). m64p comes bundled with GLideN64 for the graphics plugin. It should give you the best out-of-the-box experience available for N64 gaming.
m64p changelog:
A new option for netplay: Fixed Input Delay. Normally the server will dynamically set the input delay based on latency, but this allows you to set a fixed number of frames of delay. If you set this number too low, it will cause stuttering/freezing. Thanks to @joeldenning for implementing this feature.
Most players are better off leaving this option unchecked. This is mostly for players that want to play using very low input latency, the tradeoff being that you'll experience stuttering and freezing at times.

The United States Department of Justice has released the ruling regarding the case against Ryan Hernandez, also known as RyanRocks. Earlier this year, the 21-year-old defendant was accused of and plead guilty to possessing over a thousand videos and images of child pornography, as well as stealing confidential information from Nintendo and distributing it to the public. This was not Hernandez's first offense--in 2016, when he was a minor, he had successfully phished the log in information from a Nintendo employee and used it to obtain documents and images about the Nintendo NX prior to its official reveal as the Nintendo Switch. This led to the FBI getting involved, to which they informed Hernandez that they knew of his activities, and advised him to not break the law again.
Hernandez did not listen, and proceeded to hack directly into Nintendo's servers in 2018 and 2019, even publicly showing off his skills to others on social media. Once more, the FBI visited his home in June 2019, arresting Hernandez after seizing his computers and hard drives, finding hundreds of stolen Nintendo documents and "over a thousand" explicit pictures and videos of minors. During his hearing in January 2020, Hernandez plead guilty to both counts, and today, he has been sentenced to three years in a prison designed for inmates "with cognitive challenges".

As usual, SciresM made good on his promise 2 days ago to get Atmosphere running on FW 11.0.0 as soon as possible due to the firmware breaking support for the CFW. In this article, we’re going to look at the release of Atmosphere 0.16.0 which comes with support for the latest Switch firmware, improved support for Mariko units & more!
The primary reason why Atmosphere 0.16.0 was released is to add support for Firmware 11.0.0 which was released earlier this week but the update packs in some more stuff. Going through its change log, Atmosphere 0.16.0 brings along:
Support for firmware 11.0.0 by updating various parts of the Atmosphere CFW
Any homebrew that uses the ‘usb:ds’ service will be broken on FW 11.0.0 and needs to be recompiled using the latest version of libnx
The Switch v2 & Switch Lite are now better supported in Atmosphere but this support is still incomplete
The ‘boot’ sysmodule, Daybreak and boot0 protection/management logic now works properly on such units
There are still some issues when running Atmosphere on such units such as wake-from-sleep not working well
The only public way to run any form of hacked firmware on the Switch v2 & Lite is by installing a modchip namely the ill-fated SX Core or SX Lite which require soldering and have faced numerous legal challenges
The ‘boot’ sysmodule was updated and support for configuring address space width in hbl was added
Some other stuff including the fixing of minor issues in filesystem code and a bug that could cause NCM to abort on consoles that shipped with FW 3.0.x and weren’t updated

It’s alive! Despite the legal issues currently plaguing Team Xecuter, you wont have to worry about support for SX OS. Appearing suddenly on the Xecuter website is a brand new update, bringing SX OS to beta version 3.1.0, and adding support for the latest Nintendo Switch firmware. Also included is support for Flycast fast ram and chain loading alongside the Mariko BEK. The update is available where it usually is uploaded to, but please remember that Team Xecuter hosts illegal content on their website, therefore linking to it is against GBAtemp’s rules.
* Added support for firmware 11.0
* Added support for Flycast fast ram
* Added support for chainloading with Mariko BEK
* Small improvement in USB XCI loading
Users are reportedly updating just fine with the new files, however it’s always wise to wait for further information and confirmation.

Ore ga Omae o Mamoru is an action-adventure dungeon crawler, created by the short-lived brand Otomate Forte, who specialised in games targeted at girls outside of the typical visual-novel genre.
Originally developed by Vingt et un Systems as an action RPG, several big names in the Otome field such as character artist Kazuki Yone were brought in to create a game that would appeal to a wider audience.
The result? You’ll have to decide for yourself! Noted by Japanese fans for being surprisingly challenging, English speakers now have a chance to play this interesting piece of history thanks to the release of a fully playable English patch!
Defeat ancient beasts as you navigate your way through a labyrinth of ancient ruins, searching for the place where the mysterious stone known as Magicite lies…

A group of consumer organisations from several European countries issued a joint call inviting users to report problems encountered with the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers.
The Dutch Consumers' Association (Consumenten Bond) issued a statement asking people who own a Switch to report Joy-Con drift issues they may have, VGC reported. The organisation said it was making this call together with consumers' associations from Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, and Slovakia, as well as European consumer organisation BEUC.
The statement added that consumers' associations from Belgium and France had already received over 1,000 complaints. Back in September, French consumers organisation UFC-Que Choisir announced that it was suing Nintendo for planned obsolescence and anti-consumer practices.

The Nintendo Switch has sold over 1.3 million units in China this year, and nearly 4 million units in China to date.
This is according to data from Niko Partners shared with Bloomberg, which specifies that both numbers include both legal and grey market channels -- as the Nintendo Switch only officially launch in China a year ago and was being distributed unofficially through various retailers prior to that.
The system's launch last year reportedly saw 50,000 units sold on the first day.

Surprise! Releasing during The Game Awards isn't just new game announcements, but new firmware updates for the Nintendo Switch as well. You can go ahead and grab version 11.0.1, out now, which surprisingly isn't just a minor stability patch: A few problems regarding games that weren't playing or displaying correctly.
Corrected a problem where some games couldn't be played correctly.
Corrected a problem where, in combination with some TVs, the image would not be displayed in TV mode and an error occurred.
Corrected a problem which changed how the Control Stick and the C Stick on the Nintendo GameCube controller responded.

Not too long ago, Capcom was involved in a ransomware attack, which lead to over 1TB of internal data being stolen from the company. The information was leaked onto the internet, where fans were able to go through the data and learn plans that Capcom had yet to announce. One of those said documents which has recently gained traction is an agreement between Capcom and Nintendo, which led to the latter paying $6 million in order to secure 9 months of timed exclusivity for the upcoming Monster Hunter: Rise, including covering marketing costs and a flat development bonus. The exclusivity agreement also requires Capcom to wait 6 months after the reveal of Monster Hunter: Rise for the Switch before being able to announce it for other platforms, of which the documents also confirm will eventually be headed to PC.

As promised, Nintendo ran a presentation today featuring new indie games from third-party studios. You can find a full roundup of all the announcements below.
Spelunky and Spelunky 2 are both coming to the Switch. Spelunky will feature local multiplayer only, while Spelunky 2 will feature local and online multiplayer. Both titles will be released in summer 2021, though no further details or pricing were mentioned.
Fisti-fluffs is a physics-based party brawler about cats. Features interactable environments and customizable cats. Will release first on Nintendo Switch in early 2021. A PC demo is currently available on developer Playfellow Studio's itch.io page right now.
Very Very Valet is another timed exclusive for the Switch, coming in 2021. It's a multiplayer party game that tasks players with returning as many cars as possible to a small loading zone.
Tunche is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up set in the Amazon rainforest, with hand-drawn graphics. Features co-operative play and five unique characters to choose from, including Hat Kid from A Hat in Time. Arriving as a timed exclusive for Switch in March 2021.
Cyber-Shadow is the new game from Mechanical Head Studios and published by Shovel Knight developers Yacht Club Games, releasing January 26, 2021. An action-platformer set in a futuristic world, the gameplay resembles the original Ninja Gaiden as you play as a ninja-like character with dash attacks and throwing stars. The Nintendo Switch version comes with exclusive amiibo support for the Shovel Knight line, allowing players to summon a character from that game to assist in a fight.
Calico is a "relaxing, pastel-coloured community sim full of magical girls, cuddly creatures, and townsfolk looking to make new friends." Players are tasked with collecting cats for their newly-opened cat cafe, as well as decorating it and filling in the menu with pastries. Launches on Switch later today.
Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is an exploration-based title set on a small, Mediterranean island and stars a young girl trying to save the wildlife on her island. Coming to Switch in Spring 2021.
Gnosia is a visual from Japanese indie developer Petit Depotto. While travelling through deep space, your crew is invaded by a mysterious lifeform known as Gnosia. It's your job to suss out who's the invader, and send them into cold sleep. Each playthrough takes five to fifteen minutes, and you can customize the number of Gnosia and crew members to play against a maximum of 14 NPCs, including a typical grey alien and a sentient dolphin as possible crew members. "It is unlikely you will play through the same loop twice," promises producer and director Toru Kawakatsu. It also appears that the time looping is woven into the narrative. Launches on Nintendo Switch in early 2021.
Happy Game is a psychedelic horror game from Amanita Design. You play as a young boy working through a terrifying nightmare by solving puzzles. Features music from the band DVA. Launches in early 2021.
Super Meat Boy Forever is a console-launch exclusive on Switch, releasing December 23.

RTX off, RTX on! RTX on...the SNES! Developer Shironeko Labs, otherwise known as Ben Carter, has been playing around with a project idea for around a year: getting real-time raytracing to work on the Super Nintendo of all things. The culmination of his work has resulted in the SuperRT, an expansion chip, similar in function to the Super FX chip. This additional cartridge, which was made from the combination of a Super Famicom Pachinko game, a ton of cables, a shifter board, and a Cyclone V FPGA allows for the Super Nintendo to render simple objects, shadows, and reflections, in full ray-traced glory, all at a glorious resolution of 200x160.
The SuperRT chip constructs the scene using a specialised command language which is executed by one of three parallel execution units on the chip - essentially specialised CISC processors - to perform ray intersection tests. The scene description allows objects to be constructed using a subset of CSG operations, using spheres and planes as the basic building blocks and then performing OR, AND and subtraction operations using them to build up the desired geometry. AABBs are also supported, although primarily for use in culling tests (they can be rendered if desired, but they have a lower positional accuracy than other primitives and thus this is not generally very useful except for debugging purposes).
Carter goes into full detail on his official website about how he got his demo to work, which involved lots of commands, conversions, and many other technical terms.
The chip also implements a number of other basic functions - there is an interface to the SNES cartridge bus, along with a small program ROM holding 32K of code for the SNES (this is constrained by the fact that the interface board currently only connects up the SNES Address Bus A lines, and thus the effective usable address space is a mere 64K, of which 32K is used for memory-mapped IO registers to communicate with the SuperRT chip). There is also a multiplication accelerator unit that lets the SNES perform 16x16bit multiply operations rapidly.

Super Mario Kart Mirror Mode is a high quality collaborative hack by the SMKWorkshop team that brings new life into the original classic. First introduced as an unlockable class in Mario Kart 64 a mirror mode has been included in every iteration of Mario Kart since Double Dash!! The original Super Mario Kart never featured an official mirror mode.
After playing another mirror mode hack that was fun, but not without issues R4M0N set out to create a mathematically perfect mirrored set of tracks programmatically using Excel marcos. Dirtbag inserted the track data back into the ROM, created a new title screen and with the help of MrL314 re-coded the demos to work correctly and added some ASM hacks to give the hack a few extra mirrored features.
Play this new twist on a old classic featuring the following changes:
- All 24 track layouts perfectly mirrored
- All track overlays mirrored (GP, TT and Vs. Modes)
- Object placements Mirrored, including Ghost Valley’s pillars
- CPU AI Mirrored
- Mirrored animated tiles (Water, Lava, etc.)
- Mirrored track background layouts
- Mirrored title screen animation routine
- Mirrored demo input recordings
- Mirrored player select screen
- Mirrored race results screen background and animations
- Mirrored cup select screen animations
- Mirrored podium background, and cloud direction
- Additional mirrored track tiles where required
ROM size has been kept to 512KB - One of the aims of this hack was to do in in an elegant way as possible and keep within the confine of the original ROM size
Bug reports and any feedback can be posted here: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=31695.0

The latest and greatest update ever can be summed up into 3 points:
- 2 Player Mode!
- Useful Teammates!
- Scoring Mode!
In the latest update, you can start 2 player mode with Y+Select. Your teammate is controlled with 2p joypad, can fire, fly, barrel roll, fire bombs, and can change weapons with R+X. The border is dynamically resizing, and the screen is in a static position. Have fun with your friends and try a new twist on an old classic!
Your teammates are also actually useful. They used to come out and fire 6 shots straight when you save them and then disappear. Now, they actively hunt down targets and will fire 60 times before going away. Want more? Summon one any time with X and Select!
Like Star Fox Scored Edition’s scoring mode? Well enable it in SFES with X+Y on the title screen! It has the same changes as SF:SE as far as exploitable point patching and endlessly looping levels un-looped. Compete for a high score!
Full Changelog:
- Two player mode! (Hold Y and press Select) to spawn a ship for your friend!
- Dynamically adjusting frame/zoom level dependant on the ships’ locations
- Still just a WIP/test, but ship idle hover, movement pivot, center chase, z rotation, barrel rolls, firing and bombs are implemented. HP, smoother movements, death not implemented yet.
- Imported scoring system from Star Fox: Scored Edition 1.25:
- Enable by holding Y and pressing X on the title screen (you will hear a sound and the whale will be replaced with an Andross Cube)
- While enabled, Black hole always exits at the third exit if you haven’t exited yet, Titania always does the weather change, Space Armada forces you into the ships and continues whether or not you have destroyed the core.
- See the included Scored Edition Changes.txt for additional information about the scoring system.
- Added Weapon 98, just like Weapon 99 but without object removal. Soft-lock free.
- Reduced fire rate of Weapon 99. Soft-lock free(?)
- Weapon selection no longer resets on each level.
- Moved sound test to title screen, cycle through with A and B.
- Added ability to use planet select cheat even after beating a level.
- Planet Skip cheat can access 2 new “courses”, which just go to OOTD and Black Hole.
- Teammates are actually useful and help out for a little while after saving them.
- Teammates have some unique colors and show them in all scenes.
- Teammate assistant can be spawned by (Hold X and Press SELECT) (Repeat to despawn).
- You can now restart the game after the credits are completed by hitting START.
- Sorry Titania, your weather changer is broken. The weather changes by itself now.
- Fixed helperballs not spawning on Venom.
- Adjusted Professor Hangar (2-3 boss) - only 3 fish spawn instead of 5 while he is recharging.
- Disable switching into isometric/drunk view in tunnels
- Disable view changes during cutscenes/no control sections
Thank you for playing, and see you for the next update! Bigger and better things are always on the way!

It’s a Christmas miracle!
Pac-Man GB - Redux is seeing its most major update in the two years since its original release back in 2018, just in time to cap off 40 years of the great yellow one no less! In addition to the new Pac-Mania inspired character sprites, tweaks and fixes made in Anniv. Redux, Version 1.5 of GB Redux also sees the introduction of an all-new alternate patch dubbed ‘Classic Redux.’
Where Anniv. Redux focuses on redesigning as much of the game as possible with original, shaded spritework, Classic Redux is all about adapting the simple-yet-iconic arcade graphics to the Game Boy’s four-color screen – and doing a better job of it than the original release did back in 1990.
Regardless of which version suits your tastes better, please enjoy the newly-updated Pac-Man GB - Redux!

Japan's two biggest video games companies saw major gains last week as demand for consoles rise ahead of the holidays.
Bloomberg reports Nintendo shares rose more than they have in over a year on Thursday, up 6.6%.
It reached a high of ¥67,850 ($647.97) per share -- the highest since December 2007, driven by the Wii's first successful year.
Meanwhile, Sony Corporation's stock 2.66% over the course of Thursday to ¥10,025 ($95.67) per share.
It's the first time the company's share price has risen beyond ¥10,000 since 2001, when the PlayStation 2 was growing rapidly.
In 2020, both companies have been boosted by the ongoing success of their latest consoles.
Despite launching in 2017 and the competition for attention against next-gen consoles, Nintendo Switch has been a consistently strong seller all year.
In both the US and EMEAA territories last month, it outsold both the newly-launched PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in terms of units.

It’s time for a Nintendo Direct; one that features no games at all. With Universal Studios Japan’s Super Nintendo World set to be open to the public relatively soon, Nintendo has decided to share some excitement about the park’s imminent opening in early 2021. A 15-minute Direct will air, showcasing what Super Nintendo World will look like and teasing what’s to come. The Super Nintendo World Direct will be streamed to worldwide audiences despite it being exclusively a Japanese location for now, and will kick off tomorrow, December 18th, at 3:00 pm PT.

Remember Swapnote? Otherwise known as Nintendo Letter Box, the app let Nintendo 3DS users send each other messages drawn via the touchscreen through either the StreetPass or SpotPass functionalities of the system. Over the course of Swapnote's lifetime, Nintendo added features like new stationaries and ink colors, though its online functionality was eventually discontinued in 2013, with the cause likely being attributed to a string of cases where younger users had been sending illicit images through the app. Yet, despite Swapnote being discontinued for the better part of a decade, a new update snuck its way onto the 3DS eShop, for some reason. Even more confusing is the fact that the update specifies itself as one for "Swapnote Remastered", and the changelog consists of all of three words: "fixed some problems".

Is there something you'd like to tell us, Nintendo?

Rednex Game Boy Development System (rgbds) is an assembly toolchain for the Nintendo Game Boy & Game Boy Color.
Changes:* We have a website! Accordingly, HTML documentation is no longer distributed in the source or in the release artifacts below. All old documentation links now redirect to the latest release’s documentation
* You may also have noticed the repo has been moved to gbdev instead of rednex! Don’t worry, the same people are in charge.
* /* Block comments! */
* Whitespace is now allowed between the brackets in [bc], [de] and [hl], also allowing [\1] to work.
* The second number argument to INCBIN can now be omitted, going up to the end of the file
* The argument to rb and rw is now optional, defaulting to 1
* RGBASM and RGBLINK can both use stdin as input, and stdout as output (support yet to come to RGBFIX)
* zsh completion scripts are available in the contrib/ folder. (If you want to make bash ones, apply in #620)

Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is considered to be the apex of the FFIV rom-hacking genre and with the introduction of a New Game Plus feature, it once again has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible within the FFIV universe.
While many editions use the foundation of Final Fantasy IV “Vanilla” to bring a new experience (e.g. story, characters, randomization), Ultima provides a perfect amalgamation of everything loved about the original, as well as the components of the subsequent editions that made them unique: new dungeons, equipment and party swapping in FFIV: Advanced and a host of new abilities from the DS version. Additionally, Ultima has introduced players to things never thought possible for this game: enhanced items and equipment, magically-infused weapons, a host of new “super bosses”, and the pinnacle of the game; a boss rush where players get to challenge all the bosses they’ve previously conquered with a host of new surprises.
Each new release of FFIV: Ultima has brought a host of new content that makes every playthrough its own unique experience. While some releases had been originally flagged as the “final version” because there was simply no way to add additional content, the development team continues to shock the RHDN community by pushing the envelope, which speaks to the tenacity of those behind the curtains. With version 12, players once again found themselves experiencing new dungeons, items, and bosses but nothing would prepare the community for what would come next…a “New Game Plus” (NG+) mode – a feature that has been sought after since the game’s original release.
Not content with just bringing players a NG+ mode, the development team took things a step further and increased both the level and stats cap for characters which opens during the NG+. A player who took the time to grind all their characters to level 99 would not find themselves limited in their secondary playthrough but could strengthen their party to new heights never experienced or thought possible. This allows players to not only have a brand new experience but helps provide a more leisurely approach to even the game’s most challenging content.
On behalf of the Final Fantasy IV: Ultima development team, thank you for your continued support as the game surpasses 20,000 downloads and here’s to 20,000 more!

As most of us know, Atmosphère is the effectively the go-to CFW for the Nintendo Switch as it’s free, open-source and is supported by virtually all homebrew and custom sysmodules (plugins) released for the Nintendo Switch while receiving pretty frequent updates to add new features, respond to new firmwares and improve the overall experience. Now, Atmosphere 0.16.2 which has been touted as a minor update is out and it brings along:
- Updates to the ‘pgl’ and ‘creport’ sysmodules to be in line with how they act on FW 11.0.0
- Creport is no longer launched multiple times when a process crashes
- Atmosphère ZIPs do not bundle BCT.ini anymore as the CFW relies on defaults stored within the code itself
- You may still use a custom BCT.ini configuration and a template is provided on the GitHub repository
- The NRO allowing one to reboot to payload has been updated in order to improve compatibility
- Some other stuff such as a new system setting relating to Atmosphère Debug Mode and allowing homebrew to use FW 8.0.0+ kernel mappings
You may grab Atmosphere 0.16.2 by following the links below and installing it as usual. Firmwares up to and including the latest FW 11.0.1 are supported.
Switch & Vita releases: Atmosphere 0.16.2 released with minor fixes & improvements + VICEVita 1.2 is out for the Vita giving a better Commodore 64 emulation experience! - Wololo.net

Somewhere out there, Nintendo’s ninjas are watching us. Possibly reading these very words—at least, according to the latest “Gigaleak”. Yet another sizable amount of content have been uploaded to the internet, reportedly containing early Switch SDK files, from before the system was even released, and more internal documents from Nintendo.
Included within the latest Gigaleak are apparently development photos of 3DS cartridges, old obsolete keys for the early prototype Switch model, and perhaps most interestingly of all, Nintendo’s elaborate plans to hire a hacker from the 3DS scene: Neimod. Presentations from the files show that Nintendo went to detailed lengths to research the homebrew scene during the 3DS era, to dissuade any would-be hackers with items or interviews, and even consider the PR and potential issues from the scene over hiring said hacker.
As interesting as these files are, please remember that they contain illegal content, and thus cannot be linked to on GBAtemp.net.

A series of Nintendo internal documents allegedly leaked earlier today, and may contain information that could be very damaging to the company.
Given the sensitive nature of the leak, it’s difficult to be sure where it got first posted, and whether its content is legit or if this is an elaborate hoax. The files could very well be a mix of legitimate leaks mixed with stuff of more dubious origin.
According to twitter account @forestillusion, some older Nintendo switch private keys were leaked, but “apparently changed sometime between the files in this leak and the launch of the system”.
