Super Princess Peach marks a big plot reversal for the world of Super Mario Bros. Bowser, in his infinite wisdom, has kidnapped Mario, leaving Princess Peach little choice other than to fight her way through scores of Bowser's minions in an attempt to free the red-clothed plumber. Key differences in gameplay from previous Mario platformers include emotional superpowers (obviously feeding off the stereotype that women can be more emotional than men), an umbrella used as a weapon (Peach isn't heavy enough to kill enemies by jumping on them) with a bunch of mini-games along the way.
Planet Gamecube (80/100) by Unknown - this review gives the impression that Super Princess Peach is a quality Nintendo platformer, but one that's a little on the easy side. In fact "the easiness is really the only thing that should dissuade a purchase, but it's not so easy it's terrible". According to the self-described "hardcore Mario fan" reviewer, the game doesn't reward skilled players as much as he/she would like, but we're pretty sure the majority of players won't care about this.
IGN (78/100) by Craig Harris - again, a feeling that the game is too easy is the reviewer's main criticism of the game. For example "Nintendo goes completely out of its way to spoon-feed the player, going so far as to nearly spell out the solution to every boss battle before the player enters the fight." We'd imagine that would get annoying, fast.
Gamespot (72/100) by Ryan Davis - this review brings up something that was at the back of my mind since the mentioning of "emotional superpowers". "There's something rather sexist about the idea that Princess Peach's big secret weapon is that she can get really overly emotional at the drop of a hat" (emphasis added). We've got to ask our female audience; what do you feel about this feature? The review concludes on the note that Super Princess Peach is a great introduction for rookies to the world of 2D platformers, but if you're looking for the next Super Mario Bros. you better wait until Mario Bros DS is released.

A patent filed by Nintendo with the US Patent Office last year has come to light this week and kicked off speculation of a possible functionality upgrade for the Nintendo DS, as it describes a new control system for a dual-screen console with a touch interface.
The patent, which was uncovered by US website GameSpot, describes a console not dissimilar to the DS, but with one key difference - namely the ability to sense multiple pressure points on the touch-screen, rather than just a single point as the DS currently does.
What that means, in effect, is that players would be able to control games with gestures using more than one finger on the screen - with the example given in the patent being the control of a spaceship on the upper screen using two fingers on the lower screen to indicate direction and thrust.
The concept isn't exactly an entirely new one; other companies have explored the idea of two-fingered gestures before, and Apple's recent laptops allow users to scroll around documents and perform other actions by using two fingers on the touchpad.
However, the implementation of the system as a game controller is, to the best of our knowledge, a first - and could indeed point at an enhancement that could appear in any successor to the DS at some point down the line.

New commercial release for Nintendo DS:

Super Princess Peach brings back the classic Mario game action, with a twist. The roles are reversed this time, as Mario has been kidnapped and Princess Peach is off to rescue him! Guide her through a series of classic 2D side-scrollers to rescue the classic game hero. She'll be helped along by Kassaa, a magical umbrella. Kassaa can be used for a variety of things -- from striking enemies, to helping Peach float.

Lik Sang have done a great hands on feature of the new Nintendo DS Lite, heres some screens and info:

Let there be Lite. Lik Sang has today received its very first Nintendo DS Lite, which has been shining in our office since this morning (literally). In this report hereafter, we take the bad boy for a ride through one of our traditional hands-on reports, warming up for the real release that happens in a couple of days. Please note that we have only received one sample unit so far, we have not received the final delivery yet and a more detailed news article will follow once the Nintendo DS Lite officially hits the streets after March 2.

Latest rumors on the ground mention that only 93.000 pieces will make it for the debut, only a third of the originally planned 280.000, after two colors got postponed to 11th of March. That's very short indeed, even less than the Japanese PSP or the US Xbox 360 at launch, and god knows they were hard to get already. Taking into consideration the fact that Nintendo DS is a hot piece of machinery that has been "sold out" everywhere in Japan for the last two months, it is now certain that all hell will break loose on March 2nd. Supply will not meet demand once again, there is never enough of the good stuff on day-one. Big N is reportedly having plans to flood the market with a total of 1 million DS Lites before the end of March in the Land of the Rising Sun but we are not yet convinced if that will even prove to be sufficient.

"Smaller, lighter, brighter" was the motto so far. Now, you can officially add whiter, cooler, prettier, sleeker, and overall better to your arsenal of superlatives when describing the Nintendo DS Lite in comparison with the first edition of the Nintendo DS. The new edition has for sure a fashionable look, and appears more modern than the previous model, which many compared to a "cheap plastic toy from the 20th century" when it first came out (not that we would agree with them!). Nintendo has adopted the transparent see-through layer of plastic that comes on top of a product casing to give it a shinier look (like with the PSP or the iPod for instance). I must admit I also find the white color to be much trendier and more appealing than the original Silver painting there was on the early NDS when it first was put in my palms in November 2004. All in all, a well done piece of hardware is what it is.
From the firmware side of things, we haven't noticed any differences. The brightness is controlled using the same icon that was used to switch the light on and off in the past, and the menu of course still features English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Italian languages and comes 100% region free for all games.

ETK has posted this update on his site:
Today I have changed the collision engine (I didn't really like the other one)which fixes some bugs and improves the precision. Now the code is in more than 1 file, which makes it easier to read.
Since Collision engine is almost done, I have started the weapon/shots engine also and made a simple debugger which shows which sprite is available to use with the "new shot".

Though they weren't due until next month, an avid Flickr user has discovered that the Nintendo DS download stations are already operational in the Nintendo World Store in New York City. After enterting the store and hitting "Download Play" in the DS' main menu, she grabbed a trial version of Brain Age, strangely ignoring the presence of Tetris DS.
It shouldn't be too long now before the download stations roll out to the rest of the US and bathe countless gamers in free software, videos and deadly Wi-Fi radiation. If you see these glorious structures appearing in your area, let us know!

Thanks to Drunken Coders for this news:
Bigs posted this:
here is an update,
* torus is ok but still need to solve my problem of normals. I think its a problem of overflow and i should transform unit normal coord in something a bit smaller but close to unit.
* strange artefacts appears on top screen(no-3D) with the torus ...i think its caused by the malloc...or a mistake i havn't seen. If somebody see something, I would be glad to know.
* added some other solids.
* codes of the exemple, and functions only file (to include in a lib for exemple) are provided.

Everything else is touch-screen nowadays. Why not Nintendo and their unique controller? EA spokesperson, Trudy Muller, let out an interesting comment regarding the Revolution controller.
“The beauty of the new Revolution controller is that the possibilities for new game ideas are limitless. I’m sure that Nintendo already has a number of phenomenal design concepts built around 3D Pointing or Touch Sensitivity for their 1st party games. Our developers are inspired and excited by the new controller’s features.”
Speculation have already been flying throughout the Nintendo world and some potential mockups have already been made. Addition of a DS-style panel to the controller? Maybe another accessory that attaches to the controller? Probably won’t know anything for sure until E3, but we will keep you posted.

DS has made stars out of lawyers and doctors recently with Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center, but soon the Nintendo handheld will be demonstrating the work of a much less respectable professional in Rousseau the Thief.
The Namco-developed game has a similar anime style to Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center, and makes similarly innovative use of the stylus and the touch-screen; in order to keep Rousseau hidden from the law, gamers will have to draw patterns on his face in order to make him blend in with the background.
So as long as Rousseau stands in front of plain brickwork he should be fine, but if he attempts to blend in with something a little more complicated, like a map of Norway, he might be in trouble.
Rousseau the Thief will be released for DS, with a UK release date to be announced

New version of PALIB the coding library for the Nintendo DS.
Whats New
[Examples] Fixed the keyboard example, had SimpleText instead of Text function, so the line break didn't work :S
[Examples] Added Sprite/Priorities2, which shows how the priority system could be used to create a card game, or an isometric 3D system...
[Screen Lights] Rewrote the code, shouldn't break the sound anymore
[Arm7] Switched to libnds's IRQ system, now works better on MK2/3
[PA3D] Compiles again, sorry !
[Backgrounds] Optimised the Background memory error messages
[Palettes] Added PA_SetSpritePalCol
[C++] Fixed the Pad/Stylus problem (replacing bool by u8, I don't like that...)
