Nintendo has declined to address online reports that DS Lite will launch in Europe on August 16th priced EUR 129.99, but a UK retail source speaking to GamesIndustry.biz told us we can expect to see it sooner than that.
The August 16th date apparently centres on information from German retail outlets. Reacting this morning, a Nintendo UK spokesperson declined to comment "on rumour and speculation".
However, according to our source, that date is "way off". "We'll see it sooner than that," he assured us.
Nintendo DS Lite goes on sale in Japan on March 2nd. Last week Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that the launch would be supported by shipments of 500,000 in the first two weeks and up to one million for the whole of March.
Speaking to Spike TV show Game Heads recently, Nintendo's US sales and marketing VP Reggie Fils-Aime said the original DS could then be phased out later in the year

Sales of the Brain Training series have surpassed the million mark in Japan so it isn’t a surprise that other companies are jumping into the action. Hudson has three titles in their newly created puzzle series set for a release on March 23rd at a budget price of 2,940円 ($25). The first game is a touch screen jigsaw puzzle. You can drag puzzle pieces with the stylus into place and race against the clock for a challenge. The crossword puzzle game has a neat feature, it lets you write kana using the stylus. The last entry in the series is the math puzzle game Sudoku. With the popularity of Sudoku rising in the USA maybe some company will try to localize the last game for the US audience if Brain Flex sales are strong. Game screens below.

Those of you trying to keep up with the progress of Mother 3's passage to Game Boy Advance will be pleased by the latest update to Shigesato Itoi's website on the subject: a Mother 3 Game Boy Micro deluxe package!
The special edition Micro features a Mother 3 faceplate, a copy of the game, and a Franklin Badge - one of the in-game items from Mother 2, better known to Westerners (and often as not the source of all this excitement) as Earthbound.
If you're Japanese, and a limited edition loving Japanese person at that, you can expect to find the Mother 3 package available in small quantities from March 1st, priced 18,000 yen (EUR 127 / GBP 86).
Perhaps even more exciting though is the way that the Famicomaniacs (to borrow one of their terms) at fansite Starmen.Net have taken it upon themselves to set up and maintain a running English translation of Itoi's Japanese language site. If there's a heaven, that is where these people are going.

Everyone knows that next-gen games are going to cost more money to make, with a large chunk of that increase due to hiring new employees. Such is the case for n-Space, a game developer based in Orlando, Florida.
The online edition of the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that n-Space, an independent game developer, is nearly doubling its operations. The company, currently about 50 staffers strong, is looking to employ about 20 new artists and programmers before summer. n-Space will also be making more space by adding on 7,000 square feet to its home.
In addition to developing new ties to employees, the company fronted with the little "n" may be fostering a relationship with the big "N." The Sentinel reports that n-Space is developing games for Nintendo's next-gen console, code-named Revolution. No details on the game were released, and no official announcement has been made. n-Space's last project was the Nintendo GameCube-exclusive Geist.

This morning, Nintendo DS fans got a double shot of good news. The Japanese game giant put a final US release date on New Super Mario Bros., the debut of its long-running, jumping-plumber series on its dual-screen handheld. The all-new platform adventure will arrive in stores stateside on May 7, though pricing and rating have yet to be announced.
New Super Mario Bros. is a polygonal game that is presented from the classic 2D side-scrolling perspective that made Nintendo a household name in the '80s. While the basics may be similar, Mario has a lot more moves than in previous outings, including butt-stomps, backflips, and triangle jumps. The game will also feature new power-ups, like a pump-up mushroom. GameSpot's previous coverage has more details on the game.
If sending diminutive Italian pipelayers airborne isn't your brand of moustache wax, Nintendo also announced an all-new title for the DS today. Titled Magnetica, the puzzle game will have players stop an oncoming onslaught of marbles. They will use the DS stylus to manipulate said marbles into groups of three or more, which will result in said groups vanishing. The game is due in stories on June 5, and GameSpot will have more details as they emerge.

The Legend of Zelda was first released on the Famicon in Japan on February 21st, 1986, twenty years ago today. Defying categorization at the time of its release, it included elements from puzzle, action-adventure and role-playing games and featured an innovative save-game feature when previously games had used password based systems. When Twilight Princess is eventually released, there will be a total of ten core games in the Zelda franchise.
What's your most memorable encounter with Link and his quest to save Princess Zelda from the clutches of evil Ganon?

According to a scan of next month's Nintendo Power, the first original Mario platformer since 2002 (or longer, if you wish to discredit Super Mario Sunshine) will finally be released to the world on May 7th--since this was listed in an official US Nintendo magazine, we're willing to assume this is the American release date.
The new Super Mario Bros. for the DS will launch during the media frenzy we call E3, so any downtime we were hoping for has now completely vanished. Thanks, Nintendo, thanks a lot.
