How does Resident Evil's new portable rendition live up to the classic series? With a current average ranking of 76% and many more reviews outstanding, it could be a welcome addition for many gamers. Here's what the critics are saying:
Gamespot 79% - "You know a game's a classic when you can play it years later and still have a great time. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence is surprisingly successful at translating the scary bits of the original to a much smaller format, and the end result has a lot to offer Resident Evil fans as well as those who've always wondered what the fuss is about."
IGN 70% - "... It's hard to ignore all the little quirks in gameplay and presentation that were a bit easier to disregard in the earlier days of 3D adventuring, so if we look at it as a new title instead of a revival, well, it's not a whole lot better than a good but flawed game design."
1UP 80% - "In an effort to milk the Resident Evil cow once again, Capcom has converted the classic but flawed original title to -- of all places -- the Nintendo DS, and while the game succeeds on many levels, it also suffers in some obvious respects... While polygon counts have shrunk to accommodate the handheld's particular specs, you never feel shortchanged."

New Press Release:
The entertainment industry is evolving rapidly and with it so is gaming, diversifying year on year to appeal to newer and larger audiences. In keeping with the increased demands for social interaction through gaming, Nintendo's Wi-Fi gaming service has seen users skyrocket, with more than 20 million connections to the service and over 850,000 unique users worldwide in just over two months since it launched in November 2005.
Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection service has revolutionised handheld gaming by allowing anyone to play against friends from across the globe, simply, safely and for free* either at home or on the go. There is no fee to pay and no difficult set-up procedures - gamers simply insert their Wi-Fi enabled game into their Nintendo DS, within a Nintendo Wi-Fi connection hotspot, and press connect. Nintendo DS owners can also enjoy Wi-Fi gaming from the comfort of their homes using their existing Wi-Fi broadband connection. People can play without fear of harassment from other players as they can choose to play only with their friends.
As part of its ongoing drive to provide free Wi-Fi access to Nintendo DS owners Nintendo has signed deals with major Wi-Fi providers across Europe giving users access to over 20,000 free Nintendo Wi-Fi access points.
Nintendo has partnered with the following Wi-Fi providers across Europe:
UK - BT Openzone and The Cloud
France - Meteor Networks
Germany – T-Com
Spain - Telefonica of Spain
Italy - Linkem
Holland - T-Mobile Netherlands
Sweden – The Cloud
Norway- The Cloud
Denmark – The Cloud
Portugal – PT Wi-Fi
Greece - ForthNet
Laurent Fischer, Marketing Director, Nintendo of Europe commented: "Our aim is to provide a Wi-Fi service that is simple to use and accessible to everyone. We have over 20,000 free Nintendo Wi-Fi hotspots in place across Europe, ranging from airports, coffee shops, bars and hotels, and already over 850,000 people globally are using our service. We hope to continue to build on this success with the launch of more Nintendo WiFi hotspots and Wi-Fi games throughout the year."
Fans of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service will be delighted to see three new Wi-Fi games launching soon. From Nintendo; Animal Crossing: Wild World will have gamers living alternate lives online from the 31st March 2006 and shoot-em up fans across Europe will be blasting aliens in Metroid Prime Hunters from 5th May 2006. Also launching in Europe this Spring is LOSTMAGICTM from Ubisoft, a role playing action game which allows you to create new characters and challenge others via Nintendo Wi-Fi connectivity. Other Wi-Fi compatible Nintendo DS games currently available include: Mario Kart DS from Nintendo and 'Tony Hawk's American SK8Land' from Activision.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service launched across Europe on 25th November 2005, at no cost to users. To find your nearest Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspot log onto www.nintendowifi.com.
For those who want to play Nintendo DS Wi-Fi games at home and don't have a wireless access point Nintendo has also launched a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector (available for around £30) which plugs into a PC and automatically sets up a connection.
*Usual broadband line rental costs apply when accessing the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from home.

Microsoft and Nintendo might be facing-off on the next-gen battlefield come the launch of Revolution, but Bill Gates' empire is still man enough to give credit where credit is due: it really, really likes Shigeru Miyamoto.
In fact, it seems that if there's one fabulous dream that the Washington, Redmond giant would love to see realised, it's getting the Nintendo genius on-board. Microsoft's Peter Moore has revealed his desire that "one day he [Miyamoto] will bring his incredible content and his incredible vision for what gaming should be to the Xbox," in a recent interview with EGM magazine.
Ha, good luck on that one Mr Moore, who says - presumably in jocular manner - that he'd be willing to forfeit his slick cars and "give up my house, too, if I could get it reimbursed back on my expenses" in order to secure the talents of Shigeru Miyamoto for Microsoft's Xbox venture.
EGM's interview also found Moore and big Bill Gates himself discussing Revolution and its controller/wand, both impressed by Nintendo's innovation but remaining sceptical about its potential. "Nintendo... You've got to give it to them... They march to the beat of a different drummer," said Gates, although added that "We'll watch and see... Holding two different things like that? Anyway..."
Airing further views on Nintendo's innovation (and Revolution), he went on to say that "Sometimes that makes them incredibly right and sometimes that makes them incredibly wrong. They're certainly making a very different bet in terms of how much they're putting into the graphics this time," and Gates also explained that he thinks that "there is a question as to whether they can get outside the young age bracket at all. That's been tough for them."
And does he wish Microsoft had invented a similar controller to Revolution's? "Uh... No," he replied, while apparently laughing.
Meanwhile, Peter Moore admitted to EGM that he found Revolution's controller "very intriguing". "I'm always a big fan of companies that try and innovate in a space where we need to do things a little differently," he said, but like Gates it's still 'wait and see' because "there's no game to demo against it yet, to get a feel for it". Still, Moore said he still respects and admires the fact that Nintendo is "willing to take what is clearly a huge risk to innovate."
"Let's see if it works out for them," he concluded.

February 8th, 2006, 18:20 Posted By: wraggster
Satoru Iwata is to return to the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose next month, with the Nintendo president delivering a keynote address titled "Disrupting Development" at the event.
According to the official notes released by the conference organisers, Iwata's keynote will focus on areas including the DS product line-up, Nintendo's role in the next generation of consoles, and the need to expand videogames beyond the young adult demographic.
However, anticipation is high that Iwata, formerly a developer himself, will once again choose to unveil key elements of the company's strategy at GDC - as he did last year, when he used the stage at the conference to announce the Wi-Fi Connection free online service for the DS handheld and the backwards compatibility features of the Revolution console.
"We are extremely honored to feature an experienced platform leader such as Satoru Iwata as a keynote speaker," according to GDC's event director, Jamil Moledina. "As Nintendo reinvents the scope of what games can be, it is ever more crucial to share their creative and market-growing philosophies with the other leaders of the game creation industry."
Iwata's keynote will take place on the morning of March 23rd at 10.30AM (Pacific Standard Time).

Forbes has an article talking with Nintendo of America's VP of Marketing Perrin Kaplan. She talks a little bit about Nintendo's upcoming plans, and the concept of the Blue Ocean. From the article: "For us, it's all about the experience, not if the technology allows you to play your game on the high-definition formats, which are now in such a small percentage of homes. Many independent sources tell us that experiencing current high-def games on a regular TV makes it near impossible to see everything clearly. That means the majority of homes are experiencing something lesser than what they bargained for.
