Taiwan-based Hakuyu, the sales agent for Nintendo in Taiwan, recently lowered the price of the Nintendo DS (NDS) Lite hand-held game console sold in Taiwan from NT$4,980 (US$151) to NT$4,800 in order to bring the price of the console in line with those imported by other importers, according to sources at Hakuyu.
Hakuyu has sold 24,000 NDS Lites in the Taiwan market since it was introduced in Taiwan at the end of June, the sources noted.

Astaro Corporation (http://www.astaro.com), a leader in providing unified threat management security solutions, has today announced that it will be teaming up with Nintendo to equip the DS Browser for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite with effective filter technology against inappropriate web content.
The Nintendo DS Browser, a convenient web browser, launches across Europe on 6th October 2006 and enables Nintendo DS users to surf the web. Astaro Parental Control, a filter technology against illicit web content, serves as a "digital nanny" for the popular hand-held games console and provides a family-safe environment for children that access the internet.
Nintendo partners with Astaro to integrate its unique filter technology at no additional costs giving parents full control to block pornographic and other inappropriate material on the internet.
Nintendo users enjoy simple, safe and free internet access via their Nintendo DS thanks to the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service" which to date already has approximately 1.7 million unique users.
Nintendo recently announced plans to expand its service by including an internet browser, optimized to run on the Nintendo DS. Parents who wish to have more control over the internet sites their children access can set passwords required to activate the browser. Acting as a proxy filter, Astaro Parental Control additionally provides the option of blocking inappropriate content.
By leveraging a list of 17 overall categories that range from pornography and nudity to illegal drugs and weapons, Astaro Parental Control effectively prevents children from viewing illicit material on the internet. Astaro's technology filters a volume of over 60 million classified internet pages, the industry's largest and most up-to-date URL database. Each time users request an uncategorized web page, Astaro's data processing center automatically verifies and classifies the web site within 48 hours. This process keeps the web filter up to date, while allowing for protection even against unknown and new web pages.
Will it work, what do you think :P

On a recent episode of Osaka's outspoken Takajin no Sokomade Itte Iinkai, a panel of guest tackled the topic: "Are Japanese companies nowadays lacking pride in their work?" Japanese Kotaku reader Pokemogu passed along this clip of TV personality and Waseda-educated lawyer Tooru Hashimoto explaining why—that is, for Sony employees. Hashimoto says (and Pokemogu translates):
One of my friends, who graduated in the same class and now works for Sony, buys only Nintendo DS for his kids because PlayStaion games suck. Well, the DS might be fun but Sony employees just lack pride and responsibilities to their products...
Perhaps he's talking about the PSP and not the PS2 ?

Fresh new from Eurogamer
Sim City is to become the latest in a growing line of mouse-controlled PC titles to wend its way to the Nintendo DS, according to Famitsu Weekly in Japan. It's due out there sometime this winter.
Sim City DS, as it's known, will be loosely based on Sim City 3000, although it will be tailored to the Japanese market with local settings and character designs, GameSpot tells us as it works its way through Japanese preview.
Obviously the game will use the stylus for the main control, and will introduce several new features. Along with a tutorial and an advisor character, who offers tips as you go, there'll be a new Save The City mode that throws up scenarios in pre-rolled cities, which you'll then have to overcome using your brilliant urban planning instincts.
That's on top of the traditional city-building mode, where you do Sim City's main thing - throwing together a city design using the pointer and then tending to its various needs.
Sim City DS will also take advantage of the system's wireless networking functions so that you can chat with other players and also swap landmarks.
Electronic Arts has yet to say anything about the game's fate outside Japan, but we can hope. We can also hope it fairs a bit better than some of the other PC-to-DS translations like the phenomenally dreadful Zoo Tycoon.

Shin'en Multimedia has announced that it's working on a sequel to charming but short-lived DS shoot-'em-up Nanostray.
Not much is known about Nanostray 2 other than it has a logo and is due out in 2007, but Shin'en promises that it will make some use of the touch-screen, and will support multiplayer over Wi-Fi Connection - i.e. the Internet. The previous game used the touch-screen for changing weapons.
Fortunately for those of you seeking more information, we're promised more in the way of both that and screenshots via the official website very soon. "Shin'en again raises the bar for high quality games with never-seen-before graphics, awesome audio and innovative gameplay on the Nintendo DS," says project manager Manfred Linzner, who's presumably seen the aforementioned information and screenshots. When we have, we'll give you a shout.

Speculation is mounting that Jill Valentine, who starred in the first Resident Evil, will be returning for the hotly anticipated Nintendo Wii version of the zombie-crunching game.
Bear with us, though, because there are plenty of ifs and buts surrounding this one. The news arose from a report that voice actress Tara Platt had recorded material for the game.
Kotaku received an email from Platt herself, confirming that she had contributed material for an unspecified version of Biohazard (the Japanese name for Resident Evil) - but the actress herself has no idea whether she is the voice of Jill Valentine: "I cannot actually verify that I am in Wii or the Biohazard 5 game, all I know for sure is that the contract (for the game I did work on) had the title Biohazard (but it could be any number of varying title offshoots from that same company)."
Platt says she recorded the material in December 2005, so whether it's for the Wii version of Resident Evil or for Ressie 5 for Xbox 360 and PS3 remains to be seen. But Jill Valentine is one of the franchise's best-loved characters, and it would be great to see her in Resident Evil Wii, with rumours that she's the star of the game continuing to rumble.
Meanwhile, Resident Evil fans who list stamp-collecting among their hobbies (come on, admit - when you're not slicing zombies' heads off, you like nothing more than getting down and dirty with a spot of stamp collecting) are in for a treat. Yes, to mark the tenth anniversary of Resident Evil/Biohazard, Capcom is issuing a set of ten 80-yen commemorative postage stamps. For which you'll be able to get a flash presentation case, apparently. Perhaps Stanley Gibbons will be in Resident Evil Wii as well? What more can you ask for than the opportunity to lick zombies' backs?

Dragonminded posted some news at his site:
First, I will start with an announcement. From here on out, M3 products WILL NOT be officially supported. I will still put out compiles with the current (semi-working) 2.25 drivers, but I will not actively continue to fix them. I'm sorry it had to come to this, but I started DSOrganize as a fun little project, and with the constant stress on card compatibility, it is becoming a chore. I have tried numerous things, including using old beta drivers, and the newest drivers on the CVS. Even when I don't change the driver, compatibility changes per compile. So I repeat, I will NOT support ANY M3 device officially any longer. This includes the M3CF, M3SD, M3miniSD, and the G6, as well as any other new products that they spit out.
The second announcement goes out to card makers, as well as casual homebrewers. Card makers, PLEASE consider releasing official drivers in source form to the community. When you make a new card and claim it is compatible with homebrew, new users do not understand that drivers have to be written. The creators of homebrew take the heat because logically, if a card suports homebrew and a homebrew isn't working, it must be the programmer. Also, homebrewers PLEASE research what you are buying. I am more than happy to reply to a personal email on what I recommend to use with DSOrganize, and I'm sure most other homebrewers would be happy to do the same. There is also a perfectly usable FAQ and forums for you to find out other's successes with cards. If you have a product that is not supported by DSOrganize, please petition your card maker to put out official drivers. Asking me only does so much good, as I can only implement your card if there is a reliable driver. Asking chishm is only so good, as he would need to spend many hours reversing the card, and sometimes doesn't even have the card to test on.
As of right now, DSOrganize is tested working on GBAMP, NinjaDS, MK2 and MK3 (although NeoFlash products don't boot homebrew, they still work as storage when booted from a GBAMP). These are the only cards I own, thus the only cards I can guarantee the greatest success on. Reports state that EZ4 with read only support works, and SC CF, SC SD, and SCLite are all working, although I cannot guarantee it works to your satisfaction.
Also, before making bug reports, PLEASE be sure you are doing things correctly. For example, I got a ton of reports saying .ds.gba didn't boot on M3 and to please merge the homebrew databases so M3 could get .nds. I deleted all my work on the M3 database and merged it with the GBAMP database as so numerously requested, only to get a flood of reports saying that their M3 doesn't work with .nds. A recent conversation with someone has revealed the fact that .ds.gba booted by just pushing A TWICE. This will NOT be reversed, as I am not redoing all those packages, so in the future, please investigate to see if there is something you could be doing different.
I know that this sounds very rash, but I am starting to get tired of working on DSOrganize due to all the stress of keeping multiple releases and constantly trying to fix things not related to my code. I hope you all understand.
Wow hes obviously not happy, heres the site link --> http://dragonminded.blogspot.com/

The Command and Conquer Clone for DS Project have posted some news news to whet your appetite:
Thanks Ultraq for posting a great link to a description of the C&C INI Files. I will be writing a map file format of my own for the DS game, but I want to convert the original maps over too. This info should let me do that. Here's the link:
http://geocities.com/ccfzcc_2/text/ccmanual.txt
I got the callbacks in the debug menu working and TMP support is mostly written into the editor now. The only problem is when you apply a template that overlaps the edge of the map. I've just got to write a quick bounds check in that case. Then I'll let the editor support bigger maps, which sadly is a little more work than it sounds but will be worth it. Then once that's saved out scrolling DS maps here we come
Oh I don't think I mentioned this before but I also got tilemaps drawing on the PC SDL port of the game. It's not a very good emulation of the DS yet - but the basics are there and working. This will make debugging easier and speed up development
Modding this game on DS sounds like a great idea, i foresee a Star Wars Version at some time

Sgstair posted some news on his site:
Hey all,
I’ve had lots of fun (read: not fun) things to deal with lately, nothing really interesting just a series of small things that have added up to eat up all my available time and then some.
So: DSWifi release 0.3b has been delayed, but I am meaning to get it out soon - I’ve decided to drop the extra features I was planning for it (As they’ll be addressed in the oncoming rewrite) and merely add the bug fixes I’ve been planning, to get it out the door soon
Also, the rewrite I’ve alluded to will wait for a while, specificly until the Wii comes out or thereabouts; as I’d like the 802.11 and new TCP/IP system to work on that system as well (the sgIP rewrite may come sooner, as I am planning to play with the gamecube in the meantime, and I’d like to port sgIP to it. - if this happens I’ll release a version 0.4 with just the sgIP TCP/IP rewrite)
As far as stuff goes, I have my plate quite full of projects at the moment, so everything is moving very slowly - I’m trying to prioritize and only work on the top 2 or 3 projects, but it’s far more difficult than advertised! wish me luck!
(oh, and about the downloadable DS demos - I may or may not get around to adding the latest set, not sure if I really want to at this point. There are some other people who have the latest ones though, I’ll add the link on here / the wiki if I can figure out where)

Mollusk posted this news:
Here's a nice little update :
New stuff
---------
[Gif] Just couldn't seem to find the option that determines the gif's speed in giflib :/ I added a counter for animation speed, you can set it manually : PA_SetGifSpeed(number of VBLs to wait). 60 VBLs = 1 second between 2 frames. Example available in Bitmap/GifSpeed
[Counters] Added 16 possible VBL Counters : PA_VBLCounterStart(ncounter) to reset and start one, PA_VBLCounter[ncounter] to get its current value. Added an example (Other/Counters) to show it works and to extract seconds from that. Also available : Pause and Unpause
[RotBg] Added PA_SetRotMapTile(u8 screen, u8 bg_select, s16 x, s16 y, u8 tile_number), thanks to spinal and gmiller ! Modified the code to work with all background sizes, and added an example (Backgrounds/RotBgTile). Only tested on emulator, will need more tests
[Splash] Added PA_SplashEyes() to load the PAlib splash screen with eyes following you ! More splash screens to come when available. Example found in Splash/SplashEyes
[Splash] Added PA_SplashBlue() to load up a Splash Screen based on the forum's logo ! More splash screens to come when available. Example found in Splash/SplashBlue
[PAFS] Added PA_LoadFSImage(u8 screen, s16 FSImage) to load Images (jpeg, gif, or bmp format) from PAFS just by giving the file's PAFS number (no need to know which image format it is !). Added PAFS/PAFS_Image as example to go with it
[Pad] Added Pad.Newpress.Anykey, (Held and Released too). Modified the basic Pad example to include that in. Seems to work, please confirm if you have any bug/error (should report any key, but not the stylus)
Things Fixed
------------
[PAGfx] Benualdo correct a bug when exporting 8bit backgrounds, thanks
[Examples] Removed some examples that were there twice
[Example Fix] Fixed the 3d texture compilation error, not sure if it works though, couldn't test
[Examples] Removed GBFS Gif and Bmp examples (GBFS will be depricated soon), added PAFS examples instead
You can get it on sourceforge (hopefully soon !).
Edit : As sourceforge seems too slow again, I updated the latest version (with the new function for custom VBL) to the google SVN
Just saw I forgot to add the custom VBL function, you'll have to wait a few days I guess, sorry

The single greatest videogame of all time? Did we oversell it a bit? Really, we may not be kidding. At the very least, Twilight Princess is sure to be the best launch game in the history of launch games, but we're willing to bet it'll go down as much more than that. The title is the result of a massive effort by the proven Zelda team at Nintendo, which has in the past created some of today's most fondly remembered titles, from Ocarina of Time to Wind Waker. Twilight Princess will not only be bigger - a horse ride from one side of Hyrule to the next is rumored to take 45 real minutes - but much more ambitious than ever before. Link turns into a wolf, crossed into a dark dimension, goes fishing, and rides his way into more dungeons than ever - and he's just getting started. Truth be told, we've glimpsed scenarios that have made our jaws drop and Nintendo itself has indicated that we haven't seen anything yet. The final product is going to be nothing short of epic and with both a Wii-exclusive 16:9 mode and new Wii-mote-enhanced controls - the ability to shoot arrows and slash the sword - the game is on track to become an instant classic when it launches with Wii.
Should be fun using the Wiimote to slap the Horses backside :P

Heres whats been posted by DSx-2
One week later, this has changed. The unit, which looks similar to the Japan-only Play-Yan, will be available for only EUR 29.99, the releasedate is not set in stones, but it looks to be October 6th, together with the Nintendo DS Browser.
Key features:
- For Nintendo DS (to be inserted into slot 2) and Game Boy Advance hardware
- To store music you need SD cards. Up to 2 GB cards are supported, this equals to 500 songs (best sound quality)
- Choose between different skins (including one with Mario)
- The interface shows all important information
- The unit itself features another headphone port
The Nintendo MP3 Player was originally planned to be released shortly after Game Boy micro, but as the sales weren't as high as Nintendo had hoped, they delayed the accessory. It is not known why the video play function is not included, as the Play-Yan features this function, it is also unknown whether there's a special mode for the Nintendo DS.

After the rush for Pink a few weeks ago the Japanese have gone mad for the Black DS Lite.

Nintendo sure are awesome at selling their handheld consoles, if they can replicate this with the Wii then they will win.
