We might not have to wait until TGS to learn the Nintendo Wii price and release date after all.
That's certainly what a lot of people are saying now that Nintendo has issued invites to a September 14th event in New York hosted by Reggie Fils-Aime.
The colourful Nintendo of America president will apparently help those attending through the company's upcoming line-up.
Vague, yes, but then you'd hardly expect them to blurt it all out. There will also be some hands-on gameplay after Reggie finishes, apparently.
Whatever happens, Nintendo has pledged to clue us all in on the Wii sometime in September - and with the console due out before the end of 2006 and price estimates flying all over the place, it can't be long now.
When asked what was going on, Nintendo UK said: "As it's a Nintendo of America event we can't comment on activities or events in their market." Tricky!

Taken from Amadeus' Blog..
A long journey has come to its end… last weekend, the first linux version was booting with uses the GBA ROM space as RAM on the supercard. There were many places to convert assembler code in linux or in uClibc, and the compiler needs tweaking the code generator again and again.
Now, we have a running linux for all supercards, and 17 MByte RAM free. I am sure that there will be some fixes for forgotten bugs the next days, but basicly, the work is done.

Source: An e-mail "Wii Launch Party" invitation posted on the Gaming-Age forums.
What we heard: Secrets are tough to keep in the gaming industry. Leaks, moles, and cocktail hours generally spill the beans on the juiciest details before they're intended to go public. It's a wonder, then, that the season's biggest secret, the release date of the Nintendo Wii, remains unearthed.
The latest bit of quasi-information on the system's launch comes via the message boards over at Gaming-Age. Melissa from Web show GameLife posted an e-mail (pictured--click to enlarge) she received from Nintendo that invited her to a Wii launch party in Los Angeles...on November 17.
The date is no doubt familiar to gamers as the day the PlayStation 3 launches, but is it also the day the Wii launches? By all accounts, it would appear so. So that's it, case closed, right?
Not so fast. As reported by several gaming sites, including game blog Kotaku, Nintendo is also holding an event in New York City on September 14 which will be hosted by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. With Nintendo promising to release information on the console's price and release date in September, the smart money is that the NYC event will be the place the final details of the Wii are out of the bag.
But what of the Los Angeles event? Of course it could be the console's release date--after all, it is a launch party. But why would Nintendo make such a blatant error in sending out the information in a simple party invite rather than making an official announcement? The company is too smart to let something like that slip by.
Nintendo has insinuated that it plans to take the console on the road to prove its "Playing is Believing" slogan, so the LA party could be part of that tour and doesn't necessarily need to fall on the actual launch date--it could take place before or after. In fact, the rest of the invitation mentions the following: "These 'secret' parties will be held all across the globe to celebrate the worldwide release of the Wii..."
Something fishy is going on here (including the possibility of a Photoshop monkey hard at work nearby). Looks like we'll all have to wait until September to find out what Nintendo's up to.
The official story: Nintendo was unavailable for comment.
Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that Nintendo is planning some mega pre-launch (and launch) events, but likely bogus that November 17 is the launch day.

Thoduv has updated his entry into the Neoflash Coding Comp, heres the details:
Here's my little entry !
DSVNC
> Version 0.1
> Remote Framebuffer client for NDS.
> By Thoduv ( http://thoduv.drunkencoders.com | ).
> Distributed under the GPL license (see COPYING file).
DSVNC is a VNC client for Nintendo DS.
VNC is a protocol that allows the client to control the computer that runs the server: the client sees the screen of the server and can control its keyboard and mouse.
DSVNC is a client that runs on the DS.
( How to use )
First you must install a VNC server on the computer you want to control. Famous/Best VNC client/servers are "RealVNC" (for Windows) and "TightVNC" (for Linux).
Download one of them and install it, then run the server.
> Note for Linux users: if you want yo share your current desktop instead of starting a new X session, you may uses the "X11VNC" server.
Then, have a way to run DS homebrew and launch DSVNC. On the top screen, you will see explanations in the gray box, and on the bottom screen you will see the menus.
To connect easily a VNC server, uses "Quickly connect to another server".
Then, you have to type the server's adress (IP or Hostname), and a password if you specified one on your server. Then you will be connected to the server. See "Controls when connected" paragraph for more infos.
> Note: The first reception of the screen image can be a little long (5 to 10 seconds), depending of your network speed and your screen resolution.
> Note: If your wireless network is very slow and your screen is very big, DSVNC will be too slow for being usable. (Not my fault if Nintendo locked Wifi to 2Mbps)Neoflash MK2/3, ...), your options will be written on a "dsvnc.ini" file at root of your CF/SD.
( Controls when connected )
Stylus: - When global view on touch screen, selects the zoomed zone.
- When zoomed zone on touch screen, controls mouse. Right/left (depending of L/R held or not) click if touched.
Pad: Move.
ABXY: Same as pad (easier for left-handled people).
L/R: Change mouse button (right button while held).
Select: Show/Hide keyboard.
Start: Swap screens.
L+R+Start+Select: Disconnects and go back to main menu.

kvance posted this news/release:
Hey everyone. I wanted to share my progress on my homebrew project, HexxagonDS. It's an adaptation of the classic DOS game Hexxagon. What I'm posting has the basic gameplay mechanics and graphics, but not all the animations yet. If you have two styli, you can have a pretty exciting fast-paced 2 player game on the same DS. Though you have to manually count up the pieces at the end
This is just an early, early preview, but I'd like to know what you think (and if it works on your hardware). I developed it on a DS Lite with a SuperCard CF.

In this small snippet of footage for already-released and upcoming games for the DS from the Leipzig Games Convention, we see titles such as Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis and Hotel Dusk: Room 215, which has players looking for a lost friend during the late seventies in Los Angeles. With some stylish noir overtones and an interesting story, it's clearly our pick for best game of the bunch in this video.

Leipzig has caused a slow and sure trickle of news and finally we're able to report on some information specific to Need For Speed: Carbon on the Wii. With a trio of surprisingly lovely snapshots and controls similar to that of Excite Truck, we're very excited for this latest installment in the series. Also, the player will be able to slow down their car by pulling the Wiimote toward their body.
The presenters noted that the graphics weren't anywhere near what they wanted them to be, concentrating fully on the game's controls at the present time, but we think things aren't looking too shabby as they are.

MisterSentient posted this release:
These files have been created specifically for Datel's Max Media Dock and will probably not work with other homebrew devices. To download the original
versions of these files or to find out more about ScummVM DS visit the official site at http://scummvm.drunkencoders.com/.
I created this revision because I desperately wanted to use ScummVM on my Max Media Dock. It is not perfect. It has worked fine for me so far but
use it at your own risk!
Usage Instructions
Launch either 'scummvm-a-mmd.nds' or 'scummvm-b-mmd.nds' from Datel's Max Media Player. The top screen will probably remain white when ScummVM
starts up. I suspect this is caused by Max Media Player. I have found that pressing the 'Quit' button on the bottom screen rectifies this.
Special Thanks To
- Neil Millstone (agentq) - For a great port of ScummVM
- Infantile Paralysiser - For the Moonshell MMD FAT code that made it work
Enjoy!

Can you believe it?! A new Final Fantasy game flies off Japanese store shelves! Make that, a DS FF game!! Shocking. Today, the Dual Screen remake of Final Fantasy III went on sale in the Land of the Rising Sun and was met with long lines. Sales all day were brisk (duh), and nice chappy Jean Snow swung by electronics retailer Bic Camera in Tokyo's Yurakucho, only to find the store had been cleaned out. Famitsu has pics of a hundred-fifty plus people waiting, and GameBrink has a translation up of the FFIII DS guide. Me, I'm still in shock. These RPGs and this DS, they must be popular in Japan, no?

GameDaily is reporting on an interview that Nintendo Dream scored with legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Mr. Miyamoto spoke about the future of design and Wii gaming during the interview, touching on several interesting topics. Older Gamecube titles, for example, may be remade for the Wii at some point in the future to take advantage of the console's unique control scheme. There are no announcements of which titles might see this treatment, but he seemed confident that if it does happen the pricepoint would be rather low. In some more high-level comments, Mr. Miyamoto stated that game designers have come to a dead-end as regards gaming today. Not sparing his own company, the designer thinks that future titles will have to come at gaming from a very different perspective if they are to succeed.

The last moustachioed hard b***ard we saw rampaging, two-footed, across a footie pitch wasn't Graeme Souness, but in fact, Mario as he took to the pitches of Mario Smash Football amidst a shower of flying shells, punched 25-yarders and legal professional fouls.
Nintendo is following up its quirky and fun football game with a sequel, entitled Mario Strikers Charged (working title), due to release for Wii sometime in the future. The game will offer up to 12 playable 'captains' from the Mario universe, and allow you to create your ultimate Mario dreamteam.
The highlight of course, will be the way the game makes use of the Wii's controller. As well as giving captains their own unique skills and special moves, an intriguing feature seems to be the 'sniper defending' where ball-splitting 'Mega Strikes' can be targeted and shot down out of the air by using the Wii remote.
With stadiums wrought with danger, plus WiFi-enabled multiplayer modes (for up to four) simmering tensions, you can expect Mario Strikers Charged to be one very anarchic football game indeed.
