The Phantom Hourglass Demo at Games Convention was the same as the Demo at E3 this May, but the game is so important that we want to give you our newest impressions on Link's next adventure.
The Games Convention demo offers four different areas to explore: Field, Sea, Dungeon and a boss fight. In "Field" you have to guide Link across a huge area and search for four marks to open the door to a cave. In "Sea" you'll draw a route on the touch screen and send Link on his way through the waterways. While shipping you will come across enemies and have to attack them with the board cannon by tapping on them. The Dungeon level gives you a first glimpse of the puzzles the game will feature. You have to find your way through hazards, all the while wiping out enemies and search for new items - essentially doing all of the things that Zelda fans expect in any of Link's adventures.
The boss fight shows off the dual-screen pairing as a single display on the Nintendo DS - this fight takes place on both screens of the DS. The bad guy flies on the top screen and Link has to throw bombs into small hurricanes on the touch screen to get him down and beat him with his sword. After a few hits he is history.
While the graphics really looks a lot like "Wind Waker" on GameCube it's clear that the DS isn't so powerful Still "Phantom Hourglass" is a really beautiful game because the comic style fits to the style of Zelda games. The brand new control scheme offers a unique experience in the series. It is really intuitive to guide Link around with the stylus and kill enemies by tapping on them. Even people who have never played any Zelda game ever will know what to do after a few minutes with the game.
Sadly the game hasn't got a launch date yet. Even though players expected it this holiday season it is extremely likely that we will have to wait until 2007 before exploring the dungeons with Link on the Nintendo DS.
But that's not all that bad a wait considering the Wii and GameCube versions of Twilight Princess will be hitting this holiday. That should hold you over just fine.

Along with the announcement of the Coral Pink and Onyx systems coming to the USA on September 13th, Nintendo of America also revealed that New Super Mario Bros. has blown past the million-seller mark in the US after 12 weeks on sale.
The game, which reviewed highly on IGN and received the Editor's Choice award, joins the other million-selling games: Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day (4 million units sold worldwide) and Big Brain Academy (nearly 2 million sold worldwide). Animal Crossing Wild World is set to hit the mark yet, currently at 800,000 units sold and rising.
New Super Mario Bros. is currently the Nintendo DS system's fastest selling game in the US.

bjoerngiesler has released a new version of his FTP app for the DS, heres whats new:
DSFTP is a proof-of-concept FTP server and software component for the NDS. It is a full-fledged FTP server, with the additional ability to boot .nds files directly from the FTP prompt (currently only tested on SuperCard CF and DS).
DSFTP is a stand-alone program that you can use to run a FTP server on your DS. It is also a software component that makes it easy for you to add an FTP server to your own program with a couple lines of code. With this, you can speed up the build process radically, because you can upload the new version of your program to your own running program, and reboot it immediately. This can even be automated via the command line. No swapping of flash cards ever again!
Active mode supported! No more passive-mode only!
"hostname" setting now called "masquerade" for clarification
Log output scrollable via D-Pad
L+R+A creates screenshot (PPM format)
Reference documentation for developers

Nintendo Power, not quite the horribly biased mess it once was, has a few interesting bits of information for its readers this month.
Call of Duty 3 is confirmed for launch. An interesting point discussed was how one will arm and detonate an explosive; instead of simply pressing a button, you'll go through the motions and perform the action yourself. The AI has been vastly improved, and the game is now less linear than the previous iterations.
Rampage: Total Destruction will allow players the option of playing with the GCN controller or the Wiimote. (Take a hint, Zelda team!) There'll be 40 playable monsters and at least one new environment: Dallas. Time to get Cowboy-stompin'.
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam will have a Create-a-Skater mode that...wait...that isn't really news. Never mind.
An interview with the team developing Trauma Center: Second Opinion states that the Wii version is less a "remake" than a "perfect vision" of the original game. Chapter 6 (the seven Sin missions, in the original DS version) will be entirely new, with a different ending. A second playable character will be introduced, and at least one new tool that sounds suspiciously like a defibrillator.

Heres an excerpt
Ever since Nintendo first showed the unique controller for its upcoming Wii console, one of the biggest questions surrounding the machine has been how existing game genres will be translated to the new control scheme. Though that question still applies to quite a few types of games, the last few months have provided some creative solutions from developers. At a recent Activision press event, I got the opportunity to check out how Star Control developer Toys for Bob is bringing Neversoft's incredibly successful Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise over to Wii. In addition to getting plenty of hands on time with the game, I spoke a bit with lead designer Toby Schadt and designer Nat Loh about some of the game's features as well as what it's like developing for Wii.
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam takes the skating and trick mechanics of past Tony Hawk games and puts each in very different contexts from the rest of the series. This time around, the game is not about achieving a certain number of independent goals within a given level. Rather, the whole thing is structured around downhill racing, with various other objectives layered on top. As a result, the game is much faster paced than other Tony Hawk entries; it also means that the game is necessarily somewhat more forgiving with landing tricks and with how much time is wasted after wiping out. The most fundamental change, however, is how the game controls. The Wii remote is held horizontally like a traditional game controller; tilting the controller left or right steers the on-screen character, while the d-pad and face buttons are used to perform tricks much like in other Tony Hawk games.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connect homepage has been updated to reflect two of the newest titles to hit the DS bearing the Wi-Fi logo. Both Star Fox: Command and Tenchu: Dark Secret get the red carpet rolled out for them with tons of information and screens for you to gawk over. Tenchu's page even has some interesting Wi-Fi information, such as a listing of the top players including login details, as well as the top cities and a nifty graph showing player logins during the day versus at night.

Continuing their desire to educate the people, Nintendo announced its plan to release a game that will enrich intellects a little bit further. At the Leipzig Game Convention Nintendo announced a game that will teach gamers the English language. However, Nintendo maintained that the DS was not going to turn into an education platform.
Considering we're in Germany, the game as it was demonstrated was called "English Training" and involved teaching gamers how to write in the English language. No word on whether or not other versions of this game are planned for different regions. Could we see a "Learn German" or a "Learn Japanese" in the North American market? It's not outside of the realm of possibilities, but nothing has been announced yet.English Training is due Oct. 13 in Germany.

DS Lite Coral Pink heading to UK in October, which we're guessing is for the girls...
If you're current reservation over the Nintendo DS is that it looks a bit too manly for you, then you'll be pleased to know that you'll be able to pick up the new DS Lite 'Coral Pink' variation in Europe from October 27.
The pink coloured handheld will also be releasing in the States a month earlier too, on September 13, along with an Onyx colour version, which to those of you who don't know their burnt siennas from your periwinkles, is effectively black.
"Not only are the DS Lite screen and battery life incredible, [they] add another element of fun, allowing people to 'personalize' who they are by the color, or colors they pick," said Nintendo's George Harrison.
There are no details as of yet of the Onyx version appearing in Europe.

What on earth could you possibly want with another 10 Twilight Princess screenshots, seeing that we already have 86 of the beauties standing proudly on the site? Well, maybe because the game looks great, it's got Link in it, and every self-respecting Nintendo deviant will be wanting this game so bad that they'd probably go to quite unsavoury lengths to get it.
Set to launch at the end of the year for GameCube, and we expect, around launch for Wii, the magical adventure is arguably one of the most sought after things on any Nintendo console at the moment. It's not hard to see why. It looks gorgeous. Plus, it apparently starts with Link transformed into a wolf, which is a cool ability if ever we saw one.

When Nintendo announced the web browser for the DS, it came to a suprise of some and was expected by others. With the Europe launch coming up, and the U.S launch coming within the next months, details about the browser are almost set.
But how does the DS browser compare to the PSP browser? Which one is faster? Which one has more features?
We will answer all these questions and more inside.
You may think a web browser is just a web browser right? Well, when it comes to gaming consoles wars, you need to be the best in everything. Nintendo is looking to increase the popularity of the DS by offering something the PSP has and eliminating a special feature from it. This couldn't be possible however, unless the Opera Browser was comparable to the PSP Browser.
Anyone in the world could see the main difference in browser, that is of course, Nintendo went to a professional web browser company called Opera, and Sony did there own browser for their own product. It is also apparent that the DS is going to utilize both of its screens.
The next main difference is the on screen keyboard. The PSP uses just that, an on screen keyboard. Since the DS has two screens, there are several different ways to the keyboard and it just so happens that Opera picked all of them. The keyboard will be displayed on the bottom screen so you will be able to touch the keyboard to type. Opera also made it so that you can just scroll with your d-pad and select it that way. Possibly the most innovative way however, is the feature that allows you to write. You will be able yo write your URL you are going to or any text in the browser!
More important then any feature that a browser could have, is the speed of the browser. Looks like the PSP hit a homerun on this one. There have been many reports saying that the DS browser is very slow and "almost not usable" On the other hand, the PSP has a generally fast browser.
We all know what the PSP browser supports: most images, flash, rss, and what it doesn't support: Movies, Music, etc, but what about the DS Browser--Well, here you go:
The browser doesn't support a lot of Internet standards: no Flash, no movie files, no images other than .GIF and .JPG (and possibly .PNG), no Java.
Which browser will be faster? PSP Browser
Which browser will have more features? Opera Browser for DS
How does the DS Browser Compare to the PSP browser? Post a comment and express your opinions

First the PSP got handheld to TV adapters and now a nearly a year later the DS is getting them too. There are currently two different DS to TV adapters in the works. The first requires players to open up their DS and hardwire the adaptor into the console. Once installation is complete the DS can be plugged into a TV via RCA cables and both screens will be on the TV. The second adaptor is basically a camera with mirrors that straps to the top DS screen. It requires no installation, but it only enlarges the top screen. If you really want to play your DS games on the big screen forget the external adapter. It’s nearly useless since it only displays one screen and it makes the DS heavier. The internal adapter looks like it has decent quality from the single picture below, but do gamers really want to open up their DSes just to play Metroid Prime Hunters on a larger display?

Buried at the bottom of an IGN preview for the Wii's Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam is the news that not only is this game not going to feature any online component, but every 3rd-party game that comes out for the Wii won't support anything online either. Not until 2007 will publishers be able to offer up Wi-Fi gaming to eager players who picked up a Wii.
Gamers hoping for an online component, however, are in for bad news, because one isn't planned. Activision would not say why, but IGN has separately learned from multiple development sources that Nintendo will not release Wii Wi-Fi Connection libraries to third parties until early 2007, which means that no third party launch title will have an online mode.
Well, that's pretty awful. Seems like a pretty dumb move not to allow your third-party developers to offer online play with your launch titles. Online gaming has arguably become essential for most players and considering your system isn't in high-def or truly next-gen graphics wise, what other incentive besides a different control scheme would a gamer have in picking up your product?
Possible launch titles that could be majorly affected by not having online play:
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
Blitz: The League
Call of Duty 3
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Far Cry
Madden NFL 07
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Need for Speed: Carbon
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Red Steel
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam

Not my wife. My wife doesn't have an apron, because we eat only beef jerky at the Ashcraft house. That and popcorn. Reader Elfire's misses does have an apron. He explains:
My wife is a Nintendo fangirl. A few months ago she made this apron for herself so she could show her love for Nintendo while cooking.
Domestic evenings are spent playing "a few rounds of Mario Kart DS together" and then eating a home-made feast to satisfy those "after Kart munchies." Stepford Wives, anyone?
