Nintendo may not be giving up its gaming IPs to smartphones just yet, but the Japanese gaming giant is willing to work with them if it means crosspromoting games on standalone Nintendo consoles. Take, for example, today's release of the interactive Pokémon "Pokédex," available for $2 across various iOS devices -- Nintendo clearly isn't against taking fans' money in exchange for a valuable service: information on over 640 Pokémon on-the-go ... if you buy the three upgrade packs for $5.99 apiece (!!), that is.
Support for the app extends all the way back to the aged iPhone 3GS, and through to the newest iPad (as well as the iPad Mini), so you'll be able to explore the wild world of Tepig from a vast array of iOS hardware. Of course, much of this could be meaningless to you if you grabbed the free versionpreviously available on Nintendo's 3DS, but then you put it off, didn't you? And now here we are.

 Despite lacking in innovation when first released, New Super Mario Bros. 2 gets continually newer as DLC arrives. The latest packs, arriving in Japan today for Ą200 each, include the Kiroku ni Challenge C Pack, a time attack course in which you get as many coins as possible, and another pack all about riding dangerous moving platforms.
These two DLC packs have not been announced outside of Japan yet, but there are still Nintendo Direct presentations at noon EST for both the US and Europe

The US localization of Brain Age: Concentration Training for 3DS is now due out on February 10, 2013, pushed back from the original release date of December 3, 2012.
Brain Age: Concentration Training has players perform mental gymnastics designed to improve "working memory." Some tasks have players answer problems on a delay, forcing them to wait and see the next problem before writing the solution to the previous one. It's like a backflip for your amygdala.

 Publishers are starting to be into the idea of retail games on the 3DS eShop. Today, Natsume and Warner Bros. drop some of their recent releases on the store, including the 3DS version of Scribblenauts Unlimited. There's so much we almost didn't notice Ninja Gaiden missing its release date! A few more Wii U retail games from D3 and Ubisoft also make the lineup.
There's even a Wii Virtual Console game, which makes this a historic week: for the first time, downloadable games have been released on four Nintendo consoles in the same week.
There's also a Skrillex video on Nintendo Video this week. So there's that.

Nintendo has confirmed that Fire Emblem: Awakening for 3DS will be out in US on February 4.
 The firm made the announcement today during the US Nintendo Direct broadcast, in which it also showed off new gameplay footage.Awakening is the latest game from Advance Wars developer Intelligent Systems, and continues series tradition with top-down turn-based battles unfolding in a grid system.

DeSmuME SVN r4417 is compiled. DeSmuME is an open source Nintendo DS(NDS) emulator for Linux, Mac OS and Windows. DeSmuME supports save states, the ability to increase the size of the screen and it supports filters to improve image quality. DeSmuME also supports microphone use on Windows and Linux ports, as well as direct video and audio recording. The emulator also features a built-in movie recorder.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will receive six classic Mario courses as free DLC, Nintendo has announced.The offer has thus far only been confirmed for Japan. We've asked Nintendo about European plans and will update when we hear back.The six levels will come re-made in the Golden Classic Course Pack. The news was announced overnight by company president Satoru Iwata in a new Nintendo Direct presentation (thanks, VG247).The pack contains: - Round 1 from Mario Bros.
- 1-1, 1-2 and 1-4 from Super Mario Bros.
- 1-1 and 1-5 from Super Mario Bros. 3
The pack is available today in Japan and will be free until 31st January 2013. After that it'll cost 200 Yen (about Ł1.50).It's the third map pack for the game - the first Mario title ever to feature DLC.

The biggest film of the season could make LEGO Lord of the Rings one of gaming’s best-sellers this Christmas.
Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment is working closely with its film colleagues to cross-promote the game with the first instalment in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy.
“The buzz for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is definitely helping raise the awareness for LEGO The Lord of the Rings – especially amongst younger audiences who may not have been so exposed to the original trilogy,” sales and marketing boss Spencer Crossley told MCV.
“We have ensured that we are an integral part of the movie’s promotional activity, benefiting from trailers, and links on the film’s social media channels.”
The game is out today (November 23rd). TV ads run from the end of November through December. There will also be on-pack promotions with 1m Feel Good kids drinks.

The importing of the infamous R4 cart - or similar flash cart devices for DS - has been outlawed in Japan.
 The R4 cart and those like it are read-writable cartridges for the DS which allow users to download and play pirate games.Nintendo has been locked in legal battles globally over the distribution and sale of such devices, as it made efforts to curb rampant piracy on its first dual-screen handheld.
The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (translations via Kotaku) has announced it is now illegal to import such devices into Japan, where their sale has already been banned.
Game copying devices like the R4 were ruled illegal in France late last year, bringing the country in line with other European territories including the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Italy and Belgium, Nintendo said at the time.
