The United States Department of Justice has released the ruling regarding the case against Ryan Hernandez, also known as RyanRocks. Earlier this year, the 21-year-old defendant was accused of and plead guilty to possessing over a thousand videos and images of child pornography, as well as stealing confidential information from Nintendo and distributing it to the public. This was not Hernandez's first offense--in 2016, when he was a minor, he had successfully phished the log in information from a Nintendo employee and used it to obtain documents and images about the Nintendo NX prior to its official reveal as the Nintendo Switch. This led to the FBI getting involved, to which they informed Hernandez that they knew of his activities, and advised him to not break the law again.
Hernandez did not listen, and proceeded to hack directly into Nintendo's servers in 2018 and 2019, even publicly showing off his skills to others on social media. Once more, the FBI visited his home in June 2019, arresting Hernandez after seizing his computers and hard drives, finding hundreds of stolen Nintendo documents and "over a thousand" explicit pictures and videos of minors. During his hearing in January 2020, Hernandez plead guilty to both counts, and today, he has been sentenced to three years in a prison designed for inmates "with cognitive challenges".

m64p (2020/11/30) is released. m64p uses mupen64plus-gui, a brand new mupen64plus frontend written in Qt5. It supports all thing things you’d expect from a frontend (savestate management, pausing, screenshots, etc..). m64p comes bundled with GLideN64 for the graphics plugin. It should give you the best out-of-the-box experience available for N64 gaming.
m64p changelog:
A new option for netplay: Fixed Input Delay. Normally the server will dynamically set the input delay based on latency, but this allows you to set a fixed number of frames of delay. If you set this number too low, it will cause stuttering/freezing. Thanks to @joeldenning for implementing this feature.
Most players are better off leaving this option unchecked. This is mostly for players that want to play using very low input latency, the tradeoff being that you'll experience stuttering and freezing at times.

Nintendulator 0.985 beta (2020/11/30) is released. Nintendulator is an open source Win32 NES emulator written in C (plus some assembly optimization). The original goal was to emulate the NES down to its hardware quirks; though it's fallen behind over the years, recent builds have caught up once again and can emulate certain behaviors most other emulators neglect to handle. However, this emulation precision comes at a price - a 1500MHz (estimated) or faster CPU is required to emulate at full speed.
Supported file formats include .NES, UNIF, FDS (fwNES format), and NSF. Mappers are handled using external DLLs, complete with extra sound channels for most games which provide them. Other notable features include writing to FDS images (by storing the differences in the SRAM folder), Game Genie support (limited to 3 codes), customizeable controllers (including 4 player), input movie recording and playback (with re-recording), AVI capturing, and a debugger.

Welcome, December, and welcome, new Nintendo Switch firmware update. We have officially reached firmware version 11.0.0, and it brings with it more than just stability. Firstly, you now get a Nintendo Switch Online icon added to your home menu, which allows quick access to anything NSO related. The album has also been improved, as you can transfer screenshots directly from your Switch to a smartphone. As of this update, users will also be able to prioritize which games they wish to have downloaded first, when downloading multiple games at once. For those concerned over homebrew access, for now, it’s advised to not update to 11.0.0 until a new version of Atmosphere is released.

As its name might suggest, Aquaria is a 2007 side-scrolling title set in the underwater world of the same name. In this title, one plays as a human-like character called Naija who has some fish-like qualities such as being able to breath underwater and move very quickly in water thanks to her webbed feet. The game is centered around exploration, puzzle solving and combat as Naija explores the underwater depths of Aquaria after having lost her memory.
The game was quite well-received despite it being a two-person effort with reviewers giving the title scores ranging from 7-9. When it comes to platform support, the game was originally released on Windows but then found its way on Mac, Linux, iOS and Android with an unofficial PSP port also being created.
What about the Nintendo Switch port?
Despite Aquaria being released in 2007, it is not a free title so you have to own the title in order to legitimately play this port. (Image Source)
The Nintendo Switch port, by dimag0g, was released over the weekend with version 0.1.0 on Saturday and version 0.2.0 yesterday which made it fully playable albeit with some minor issues. This port was made possible thanks to the folks behind Aquaria releasing its source code in 2010 with that evolving into AquariaOSE which packs in various enhancements to the original code and is the base for the homebrew Switch version.
Dimag0g mentions that this port is fully playable but it comes with some issues such as the map view not working correctly and some non-essential features not being functional. Other than that, performance seems pretty good and you can easily get it on your Switch by downloading the NRO from the link below and providing your own data files as Aquaria isn’t a free title.

It's taken some time but DOOM Eternal is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch. This version was announced back in 2018 but while the PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions released in March 2020, the Switch version faced some delays. Even after Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks and id Software, the Switch version was nowhere in sight; until today. Nintendo made the release date announcement via a new trailer released a few hours ago:

Inspired by the likes of DahrkDaiz, ATA and other great rom hackers of the mid-2000s, Frantik started work on Super Mario Unlimited with the hopes of creating his own asm-heavy Mario masterpiece. It took close to 7 years, but eventually the game was released to the world in late 2011. Overall the hack was well received and of AVGN fame. Despite the popularity, it was a little rough around the edges, most notably with some questionable choices near the end and a little too much of that infamous “Nintendo Hard”.
In 2017 Frantik decided to go back and start adding a bit more polish, and Super Mario Unlimited - Deluxe was born. Everything good about the original has been made better, and everything bad has been removed, or at least cleaned up. This is the original vision Frantik had when he started 15 years ago!
More info
Super Mario Unlimited Deluxe is a traditional-style Mario hack with difficulty ramping up from beginner to expert. It is based on the Super Mario Bros engine, but has been completely reworked into a whole new adventure.
Changes from the original game include:
- 41 Original Levels!
- Unlimited Lives!
- New Power-up! The stopwatch lets Mario freeze his enemies
- New Mechanics! Mario can super jump off enemies by holding A
- New Collectable! Find all 32 Mario coins to unlock secrets
- New Graphics and Music! A familiar mix of new and old
New features and changes in this DELUXE version:
- Save your progress with three save game slots
- All new Bowser fight with new music
- A “secret message” at the end of each world
- Attempt counter aka lives counter
- Mario coin count is displayed on screen
- Indicator displayed for when a Mario coin has been picked up
- Hidden power up blocks are now partially visible
- Different end game text depending on how you play the game
- Bowser’s castle expanded with a second route
- World 6-5 expanded
- Bonus hidden level added
- “Speed runner mode” - Can you beat your personal record?
- SecondQuest / “Hard Mode”
- Many more tweaks, bug fixes and edits!
A strategy guide with detailed information on all cheats and secrets, as well as cover art for use with NES Classic are also included in the archive.

If you're still using your Nintendo Wii U, a major title is about to be removed from the console's online storefront. Nintendo has announced that it will be delisting the original Super Mario Maker early next year, on January 13th, 2021. The game will be permanently removed from the Wii U eShop, and will no longer be available for purchase. That's not all, either--the game's online functionality will also be shut down a couple of months later on March 31st, 2021. After this date, you will no longer be able to upload courses to the game, look up your bookmarked courses, or rank others' courses.
Super Mario Maker originally released in 2015 for the Nintendo Wii U, and received a port to the Nintendo 3DS, with the latter lacking certain features from the console release. The game was suceeded by its sequel, Super Mario Maker 2, which released for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Whether it's a rule, or merely an inevitability, if it exists, someone can and will port DOOM to it. YouTuber Stacksmashing has brought the game to a new and rather unexpected platform: the new Nintendo Game & Watch handheld. He details his experiences in porting the 1993 game to the system, which included having to use a version of DOOM that removes textures and replaces them with simple outlines and flat colors, in order for the game to fit onto the Game & Watch's very small storage. Getting DOOM to a playable state on such an odd system won't be the end of his exploits, either, as Stacksmashing and fellow coder Konrad Beckmann are working together on releasing a homebrew creation tool for the new Game & Watch.

If you’re into FPS titles and World War II, then there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the Wolfenstein series which includes popular titles such as the highly acclaimed Wolfenstein 3D and 2001’s Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Now, the latter has been ported to the Nintendo Switch thanks to capsterx.
the Switch port, by developer capsterx, based on iortcw which is an open-source game engine for the title. According to a pretty lengthy release post on its GBATemp thread, capsterx states that porting the game to the Switch was no piece of cake and while the port works, loading times are a tad slow so you may need to be a little patient with it!
Due to RTCW not being a free game, you have to supply files from the Windows version yourself which can be bought off Steam or GOG for a few bucks. After obtaining the files you need (listed in the release thread linked below), you simply have to put them in “/switch/iortcwsp/main” together with the port’s NRO and other files required to run it. It is also possible to override the control schemes currently in place with more details on how to do so in the port’s release thread.

Celebrate Super Mario World 30th anniversary with Super Luigi World! Luigi steals the spotlight in this iconic platformer for the SNES. Play the original levels with the same classic gameplay, but this time you’re playing as Luigi!
Features
Luigi’s sprite from Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
Luigi is now Player 1 and Mario is Player 2
All text now refers to Luigi, including:
A modified title screen logo
Savefile names
Message boxes
Boss clear texts
The ending text after beating the game
Credits
The inspiration for Super Luigi World came from playing the second half of Super Mario Galaxy in the 3D All-Stars Collection. This spawned the idea of creating a Luigi-version of Super Mario World dedicated to Luigi-fans!
It always felt off that the ending said “Mario’s adventure is over.” even if you beat the game as Luigi.
Super Luigi World restores the balance as you can now play as Luigi in a 1 Player Game or force your younger siblings to play as Luigi’s red brother in 2 Player Game mode!
What started as a seemingly easy beginner project quickly began to take more time than expected. It was a fun way to start getting into romhacking but most of all it granted a new appreciation for the effort this community puts into these projects!
Please enjoy, Super Luigi World!
