Tecmo has confirmed that Tecmo Bowl for Wii was put on hold and converted into Family Fun Football. A Tecmo rep informed G4 that "given the recent trend on the Wii and its target audience," Tecmo made a "business decision" to switch the Tecmo Bowl project into a "family oriented football game." For now, Tecmo Bowl for Wii is "indefinitely on hold."
However, there is good news for Xbox 360 owners, as a Tecmo Bowl for Xbox Live Arcade is in the works for early 2010. There are currently no details on the game, but there may be some information next week at E3. Wii owners who were looking forward to Tecmo Bowl for the console may want to pick up its second-cousin thrice removed: Family Fun Football.

A Famitsu scan confirms what we surmised months ago, an Idolm@ster game is in development for the Nintendo DS. Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars is slated to come out in Japan this fall.
Three new idols: Eri Mizutani, Ai Hidaka, and Ryo Akizuki are waiting for you to manage their day to day life with the stylus. The Nintendo DS game is being called the “2nd vision” for the Project Imas team and it’s a new entry in the Idolm@ster series. However, it looks like Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars retains the same conversation tree system from the other titles.

Ubisoft has announced that its sequel to last year's multiplatform Shaun White Snowboarding is coming exclusively to Wii. Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is planned for a holiday 2009 release.
The move to a single-platform release may seem surprising, but it's made less so when you consider that the Wii version of the first game outsold other versions by nearly a 2:1 margin. We've contacted Ubisoft for comment on the decision and to clarify whether or not this news marks a full-stop for the franchise on other platforms. In the meantime, start waxing those balance boards.

Gearbox Software's first-person shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines is apparently still alive and kicking in some capacity, but who knows when it will be released. The same is true for the... Nintendo DS version?!
A very official looking trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines DS, one that requires a great deal of squinting, was uploaded to YouTube recently, giving us our first look at the unannounced game. Attached are developers Gearbox and WayForward Technologies, the latter responsible for Shantae, LIT and Contra 4.
Music aside, the trailer looks spectacular, a very capable 2D side-scrolling shooter that's packed full of what you'd want from an Aliens game: chest-bursters ripping through sternums and waves of aliens being turned into acid salsa.
While we'd normally be suspicious about a randomly uploaded trailer for a game we'd not heard a peep about, the trailer appears legit. WayForward employees write on their personal web sites about an unannounced "action game on DS" that's "based on one of the best licenses imagineable [sic]," calling it "WayForward's spiritual follow-up to Contra 4."
We're checking in with Sega and WayForward to see what's up and hope that the "shelved due to money issues at Sega" description is inaccurate.

On the 7th of April this year, Nintendo registered trademark #2009-026024 with the Japanese Patent Office. For something called "Wii Fit Plus". Hrm. What ever could it be?
The mind boggles.
While companies trademark stuff all the time that means bupkis, we're a little more interested in this because it has a nice, formal logo attached (pictured above). Which tends to suggest that, far from being a "crazy idea" patent, this is something that Nintendo are actually working on.
Oh, and if you remember, April is also when something called "Wii Fit Plus" started appearing on the databases of European retailers.
With E3 right around the corner, who'd like to wager that, amongst the games, Nintendo take a minute or two to outline plans for an imaginatively-titled sequel (or expansion) to one of their biggest-selling (18 million and counting) titles of all time?
UPDATE - Analysts at financial powerhouse Macquarie "understand" that "WiiFit Plus will be launched at E3, which will be sold separately from the board and in a bundle and will capitalise on the 17m existing WiiFit users." Understand is such a funny word. It can mean "we have heard", or it can mean "we're just taking a punt, and really have no idea".

High Voltage has another Wii-exclusive in development, and this one hopes to achieve no-less than a gory Left 4 Dead extravaganza on the Nintendo console.
Due next autumn, The Grinder is a first-person shooter playable online by up-to four friends either co-operatively during the campaign or in multiplayer modes yet to be detailed.
"We've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead and there really isn't that kind of frantic cooperative experience on the Wii right now. There's certainly nothing that takes advantage of the Wii hardware the way we are able to with our engine," Eric Nofsinger, chief creative officer at High Voltage, told IGN.
The Grinder is set in a world where monsters are a part of day-to-day life. Players control four members of an A-Team assembled to deal with them. Making up the team are Hector, a gruff bounty hunter; Doc, an underground doctor and former hunter; AJ, a female explorer terrified of re-encountering The Slasher; and Miko, a Japanese assassin with a taste for monster blood.
They each approach situations with different skills and abilities, and these - along with weapons - will be upgradeable as the game progresses. There will be a couple of "untraditional" upgrade mechanics, too, although these are secrets for now.
Characters will be able to dual-wield both run-of-the-mill and "imaginative" weapons, and Wii MotionPlus controls will be added to help Miko swish her swords. There's even a bullet-penetration feature that sees projectiles going through multiple enemies.
Examples of enemies are vampires that prefer melee and use teleportation, hulking mini-boss werewolves and The Slasher, a straitjacket-clad boss who is going to be unveiled proper at a later date.
WiiSpeak is a "no-brainer" for inclusion as The Conduit already supports the voice-comm feature, and Leaderboard and Achievement features will be detailed some other time.
Visually and technically The Grinder appears to be very accomplished, and High Voltage promises lots of enemies on screen with little to no impact on framerate. The Grinder sounds rather grisly, too.
"There will be blood... And lots of it," said High Voltage founder Kerry Ganofsky. "This is not a game for the squeamish."
Eric Nosfinger added that it will be "somewhere between Dead Alive and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" in terms of content. "Right now you will see several hundred gallons of blood if you play through the E3 demo," he said.
We'll know better what to expect when The Conduit is released on Wii at the end of June. Pop over to The Conduit gamepage to find out more about High Voltage's first Wii game.

The clever technical innards of CasualGaming.biz mean that we can’t use the same headline more than once – something that’s making our jobs quite tricky considering the near daily announcements concerning yet more fitness titles for Wii.
This time it’s the turn of Black Bean Games, which has just announced NewU Fitness First Personal Trainer for the Wii, a title due for release this September.
In development by Lightning Fish Games, the game boasts the licenses of both the Fitness First fitness chain and You Are What You Eat. Alongside the physical workouts offered by the title, it will also include a range of healthy eating and nutrition tips.
Yes, Wii Fit has been a success. And yes, success breeds emulation. But seriously, how much room is there on the market for Wii fitness games?
In recent times CasualGaming.biz has covered no less than six separate fitness games on the Wii – Nintendo’s own Wii Fit, EA’s EA Sports Active (which charted strongly in this week’s UK games charts), Ubisoft’s My Fitness Coach, Atari’s Family Trainer, Deep Silver’s Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009 and Sega's Daisy Fuentes Pilates.
You can add to that 505 Games’ upcoming Mind, Body & Soul range and the possibility of a LazyTown-based fitness outing. And lest we forget Carol Vorderman’s latest foray into the health market – albeit on Nintendo DS.

Today Taito and Square Enix announced a bunch of new titles for WiiWare and Nintendo DS. Many of these were expected, but it's always nice to have an official announcement. The lineup consists entirely of sequels and remakes. The first, Bubble Bobble Plus!, is available now on WiiWare.
Taito's other upcoming WiiWare titles are:
Bust-A-Move Plus!
Release date: Summer 2009
The puzzle classic (also known as Puzzle Bobble) returns with 135 new levels, and stages from previous games in the series will be available via downloadable content. Check out IGN's impressions of Bust-A-Move Plus! here.
Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure!
Release date: June 15
A sequel to the 1987 arcade game, which was actually the sequel to Bubble Bobble. Brothers Bubby and Bobby must scale the titular tower and reach Holly's Comet.
Arkanoid Plus!
Release date: Summer 2009
Arkanoid Live was just released on Xbox Live Arcade, and Taito is serving a similar experience to WiiWare this summer. This riff on Breakout should play very much like the arcade original. Includes multiplayer modes.
Taito also has two upcoming DS releases:
Space Bust-A-Move
Release date: July 28
More Bust-A-Move, but this time in space. Check out IGN's preview from last year's Tokyo Game Show.
Space Invaders Extreme 2
Release date: Fall 2009
We've made no secret of our love for Space Invaders Extreme, and we're looking forward to the sequel this fall.

Nintendo is going casual with its latest batch of Japanese DSi Ware games. The company recently announced five new titles to launch for the Japanese service on the 27th.
Most notable in the bunch is Pocket Rurubo. This series of digital travel guides is being produced with travel giant JTB and is based off the Rurubu travel magazine. Each 800 DSi Point installment offers maps marked with hot spots, scheduling functionality, and a camera-compatible diary feature. Nintendo will release Tokyo and Kyoto installments on the 27th, with more regions set to follow in the future.
Also of note, for Nintendo's bottom line at least, is Rhythm de Kitaeru Atarashii Eigo Zuke (roughly, Fortify Through Rhythm: New English Trainer). This is a mini version of Nintendo's million-selling "Eigo Zuke" English language training DS software. Priced at 800 DSi Points, the program includes listening, pronunciation and rhythm lessons, all complete with actual voice. There's also a mini 25 chapter drama to get users more comfortable with their new words. The first volume of the program is due out on the 27th. A more advanced second volume will follow in the near future.
Nintendo is teaming up with another magazine for Crossword House Vol.1. This series of puzzle titles features puzzles from the latest issue of the Crossword House puzzle magazine. Players will find 50 puzzles, covering such genres as crossword puzzles and illustration logic. Pricing for the first volume is set at 500 DSi Points.
Finally, another installment in a mainstay DSi Ware series: Master of Illusion. Nintendo's magic series will get a new 200 DSi Point installment titled "Nensha Camera." To perform this trick, you have a friend select a card and think very hard about it. You then use the DSi take a picture of your friend. The system can somehow figure out what card your friend has selected.
All these titles are Japan-only. Given the magazine tie-ups, we expect most of them to stay there.

News via Nintendomax
A few days before the dead line (May 31), the show may start with the first presented to the homebrew Wii Dev Nintendomax Competition 2009. This is "Bowfishing Action!" linus coded, which we propose to fish a big carp using the wiimote in several levels of difficulty.
Quote:
Enjoy the thrill of pinning a giant carp to the bottom of the river. In what can be described as Duck Hunt meets The Black Bass. Bowfishing Action! combines a fast paced arcade shooter with all the fun of fishing. Game play takes full advantage of the Wii's unique motion control to create a one of a kind experience. Try all three difficulties and Go for the GOLD!

Lazy1 has posted some more WIP news of his port of Wolf3d for the DS:
I can't put an approximate date on it yet, there is still quite a bit to do:
- Port music converter to linux, test on big-endian systems
- Add level select for Spear of Destiny
- Add cheats for Spear of Destiny
- Add 50% slowdown cheat
- Re-add keyboard for user input (was broken anyway)
- Finish automap stuff
- Fix the few status bar bugs remaining
- Fix demos (they are horribly broken timing wise)
- Figure out how to add fm synth sounds (ammo pickup, treasure, ect)
What is done:
- Level select for Wolfenstein 3D
- Cheat menu
- Music support (32768Hz mono IMA-ADPCM)
- Updated status bar
- Power off button added to main menu
That's all I can think of for both lists at the moment, there probably is more than that still.

Molokai has updated OpenTyrianWii to 1.1.0 :
A Port of the rail shooter OpenTyrian to Wii.
Features
Full Wiimote+Nunchuk, Classic Controller, and USB Keyboard support, partial GC Pad support.
2 Player Arcade action.
Full input choice (you can use any Wiimote or classic controller, no matter the sync, as well as the keyboard).
About
This is a Wii adaptation of TYRIAN, the game edited by Eclipse and published by Epic MegaGames. The original game was programmed by Jason Emery, illustrated by Daniel Cook, and its music composed by Alexander Brandon and Andreas Molnar.
This port is based on OpenTyrian project code, maintained by mindless2112, syntaxglitch, emacs.hacker, yuriks.br.
This README file was based on the README found on Nuvalo's old one.
This port is separate from Nuvalo's port, and has now replaced it (as you can see). It is fully functional and much more stable than the Wii-Linux version.
This is not the version featured in the Homebrew Showcase linked on the main page (unfortunately). But trust me, it is better, and easier to use.
Gameplay
Tyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling shooter. The player controls a space ship fitted with different weapons and enhanced energy shields. Money is earned by destroying enemies and grabbing bonuses, which is then used to purchase upgrades such as weapons, shields, energy generators, and different ships from interlevel menus. The game is fast paced and presents a variety of enemies and bosses.
Changelog
1.1.0 - 26 May 2009
Fixed sound bug from exit exception fix.
Fixed joystick configuration. Wiimote+nunchuk and Classic Controller are now fully configurable!!! Details in Controls.
Disabled mouse support (until SDL Wii is fixed with a solution for Wiimote dual functioning as mouse and joystick).
All userdata moved to tyrian/userdata. For those with versions earlier than 1.1.0, just move your tyrian.cfg and tyrian.sav files to tyrian/userdata. The next time you exit, joystick.cfg will show up there as well.
Button crashes are not confirmed to be fixed, but so far, I have not had any problems since I disabled the mouse functionality.
Whatever you do, do not use the GameCube pad yet. It will override (for some reason) the wiimote functionality, and as the GC pad joystick is not functioning yet, you can't navigate or change anything. I will work on a fix for this later.
1.0.1 - 25 May 2009
Fixed exception screen on title menu exit selection.
