I try not to visit tehskeen (nor link to a site with open hostililities to me) anymore, it was a a great website back in the gamecube scene days and i supported the webmasters actions over sites like maxconsole and ps3 news or what ever incarnation it was then, but recently attacks on me, marcan and whoever else and then the newspost the other week saying that he doesnt want drama on the site and the suicide newspost which really should be kept off any news site.
But today i was pointed to a thread where Tantric one of todays great coders for the Gamecube and Wii has been banned from tehskeen for not exclusivly releasing his emulators there. From what i can gather and this goes back to the gamecube days where brakken and others basically forced users to compile releases than release them publically, which was rather miserable.
Anyway heres the forum post and you can make your own assumptions:
Tantric has been banned from Tehskeen for denying Brakkens demands to "distrubute the emulators on TehSkeen where they belong". Read the email below for the full details.
This seems like a very interesting turn of events. Honestly I would have never seen anything like this coming. Talk about scene drama! I have to agree with Tantric's choice - the emulators do not belong to tekskeen. They are open source, and should be kept that way - from open contribution to distribution. Secondly, I really don't see brakken's beef? I'm not really sure what the issue is. It seems he is trying to use the emulators as a website promotion technique, with complete disregard for the developers, the open source license, and the users. None of the aforementioned parties are tehskeen, and they are THE main stakeholders in terms of these emulators.
The fact that the emulators are released simultaneously in many channels seems to be brakken's issue here. I wouldn't worry too much about it brakken, especially since the emulators now have an auto-update feature which means nobody but new users might download this from any other source. Moreover, new users would probably use homebrew browser anyway.
Time to be frank. It is not fair that brakken has banned tantric from tehskeen. Tehskeen is the only website of its type that the emulators are officially 'released' to anyway. Wiibrew doesn't count as it is a public wiki. Tehskeen is the primary benefactor of this arrangement, getting thousands of hits with users going there almost solely for support, and in turn looking to other parts of the site. Again, I have no clue what brakken is thinking doing this as one of the main reasons people go to the site is to discuss these emulators, expecting responses from their developers. If brakken wants a tehskeen logo on the main menu he should make his own version to distribute. Brakken: you're getting enough benefit from the arrangement as is. Why don't you just go ahead and ban eke-eke and whoever else won't exclusively distribute on tehskeen as well? Think this over carefully - it doesn't make much sense at all.
Basically what I'm looking for is for you (Brakken) to un-ban tantric and return things to the way they were before, which was perfectly fine in my opinion, and probably those of most of your users. I am curious to hear what all of you skeeners think. Also, I do not mean to offend, but it's hard to keep a straight tone with what is in my opinion a rediculous expectation and actions.
Here is the email Brakken sent Tantric, which I have posted with his approval:
Quote:
Tantric,
I have given this much thought and I need to speak my mind. The emulators you've been working on where originally SkeenDev projects. When I asked you if the new GUI would include TehSkeen's URL you said yes - this didn't happen. When I see you talk on IRC in #wiidev you say TehSkeen doesn't contribute to the emulators. Maybe this is so regarding coding, but TehSkeen's users always comment on your releases. I am greatly offended by your lack of support for TehSkeen. It seems you have chosen the side of the #wiidev community who are for the most part anti-tehkseen.
I don't care about hits. You release an emulator here and the threads get around 2,000 unique hits. I don't care. What I care about is respect. You said you'd include TehSkeen's URL in the emulators, but it seems you want to keep the site out of it.
You said on IRC that no one contributes, but we do! I support your releases, tehskeen members give you feedback. The original authors all decided to release the emulators on TehSkeen.
You, however, have setup a SVN. I agree it's a better way to handle projects, but then the respect issue comes into play. You could just as easily release the binaries exclusivly on TehSkeen and keep the source code seperate.
There are many sites that are loving the fact you release the binary on Goggle. They are curroupt and won't link to TehSkeen due to this fact.
What am I suggesting? You remove the binary releases from Google. You can release them here. I can set you up an FTP or give you access to the downloads database - neither of which would require users to register to download. I suggest you add TehSkeen's URL to your emulators (as promised).
This two way street game you're playing benefits the assholes in #wiidev and the assholes who don't link to sources.
If you decide this is not the way you want to go then don't waste your time uploading your emulators TehSkeen. It only makes me look like a jackass posting "Release Thread" - when I'm sloppy seconds.
I'll still post news about your emulators, but I won't support you. I wrote the readme for one to help out. I created a video to help out. Before you came along I did a lot more to help out. TehSkeen members help out too. Like I said, it's a slap in the face to see you trying to provide Wiibrew and TehSkeen. I feel used and betrayed. I would assume the original authors who supported TehSkeen would feel the same way.
So - either lets come up with some way to distrubute the emulators on TehSkeen where they belong or cut all ends. I don't need the traffic. I'm pretty close to closing the entire site over the way you're handling the emulators and and I can't deal with you trying to please the haters and the supporters.
Kind Regards,
John Bull (brakken)
The homebrew community isnt down to one site or network and we should personally embrace coders that spend their time giving us these great gifts, im sure many webmasters would love to make their forums the base of any discussion for their emulators.
If any wii coders would wish hosting then ill gladly arrange a site and forums and also take down the need for registration for downloads (obviously ill use some way to stop people hotlinking)
Post your thoughts on this sad banning of one of the Wii and Gamecube Scenes Nice Guys Tantric.

Square Enix is on board with DSiWare! Unfortunately, the only people who should be excited are old Japanese ladies.
The first download from the Final Fantasy publisher is called Mr. Brain. If that title makes you imagine a brain training game of some form, you've nailed it. The game promises three types of training.
Mr. Brain is based off an upcoming Japanese television drama that stars one of Japan's hottest stars, Takuya Kimura. In the drama, Kimura plays a genius neurologist who works with the police.
It's unclear if there will be any connection to the drama side from the name. We imagine Square Enix would have been pretty vocal about it if they'd gotten Kimura to actually appear in the game.
Square Enix will release Mr. Brain through the DSi Shop on May 27 at 500 DSi Points. The drama kicks off on the 24th.

We shared first details yesterday on Capcom's Japanese release plans for Monster Hunter 3. Today, we have a first look at the game's bonus items.
As revealed yesterday, MH3 will launch in Japan on August 1. Capcom will be offering the game both on its own for 7,340 yen, and as part of a couple of special packages.
Retailers throughout Japan will offer the Monster Hunter 3 Classic Controller Pro Pack. As the name might suggest, this package bundles in Nintendo's Classic Controller Pro, an upgraded version of the current Classic Controller that goes on sale in Japan on August 1. Pricing for the bundle is set at 8,490 yen.
Likely to be harder to come by is the Monster Hunter 3 Limited Edition pack. Priced at 9,440 yen, this version of the game includes a DVD with a MH3 making-of feature and footage from the May 6 Monster Hunter 5th Anniversary concert. Capcom is also planning an unspecified bonus of some form. All this ships in a special box. This version of the game will be sold exclusively through Capcom's online e-Capcom retailer.
All versions of the game will qualify for a special "monster head" bonus item. Capcom will make three figures available, given to buyers at random. Specific designs outside of a silhouetted image have yet to be shared.
All these special editions, prices, and release dates concern Japan only. Capcom hasn't shared specifics about an international release for Monster Hunter 3, although the game is expected to arrive some time this fiscal year.

DCEmu Member and Coder SimonKagstrom has today answered the Dreams of many emulation fans on the Nintendo Wii by today releasing the first Amiga Emulator for the Nintendo Wii on our Forums:
Heres the release notes:
UAE is a famous Amiga emulator ported to the Wii. The previous port of UAE never released source code (as required per the GPL) and has therefore been removed from Wiibrew. This project is not related to that. UAE Wii can be found on googlecode at uae-wii.googlecode.com, and is based on the source code of E-UAE. The port uses SDL Wii.
Installation
Untar the binary release on your SD card, which gives you a structure as follows:
uae/
uae/uaerc
uae/floppies/
uae/roms/
uae/harddisks/
uae/saves/
apps/uae/
apps/uae/boot.dol
apps/uae/...
Amiga kickstart images go into uae/roms/, with the default name from uaerc being kick.rom. You'll need to download this yourself. Thereafter put your floppy images in uae/floppies/ and you are set to go.
Configuration
UAE is very configurable, so take some time to lookup how the configuration file format works. You can bind keyboard keys to the wiimote buttons etc that way. See the examples in the supplied uaerc.
Usage
Wiimote 1 acts as both mouse and joystick in port 2. Button mapping should be filled in here.
Changelog
Version 1
Initial release
This version has only received light testing and there will be bugs
Graphics look bad in Workbench, but hey - who cares about that?
There is a menu, but few menu options actually work. Patches are welcome!

Cid2Mizard proposed the first version of a puzzle game called "Digitory DS", a remake of the flash game of the same name.
Quote:
You control with the stylus numbered balls on the blue band and need to drag in the 4-way to make money from value to collect and remove the blocks in the center.
Move your ball touching the blue tape, and start reaching your ball.
You get 5 pts for 1 short, 5 to 10 + 2 are both, 5 + 10 + 15 to 3 are, etc ...
There are currently 15 levels, but ultimately the game will count 60, but not all identical to the flash version.
So you enjoy working in mental calculations.

Tantric has released Hexxagon:
Hexxagon is a classic DOS board game. The object of the game is to have the majority of your colour discs on the board at the end of the game. This release demonstrates using DOSBox Wii to directly load a DOS game.
Hexxagon is an animated game of strategy, loaded with options, in which it is your task to take over as much of the world, ah, board as your opponent will allow, whether your opponent is another mere human or our resident noid of unflinching logic, the dauntless CRANIAC.
CRANIAC, represented by a single light bulb, will happily defeat you in any one of three modes. Choose your poison, and don't be taken in by the apparent simplicity of CRANIAC'S lightbulb facade, his glasses or his bow tie; he'll lure you in and hit you with the "kill"owatts of brain power that reside in that little icon.
Cower not -- one of your available options is to actually "see" how the little twerp thinks. On the two higher detail levels, CRANIAC displays his moves before he makes them, showing his options with flashing neon green and yellow paths.
On the low detail level, he will counter immediately after you move -- instantaneous annihilation. Again, don't be alarmed, the three modes, "CRANIAC EASY, MEDIUM & HARD," allow you to choose the level of difficulty you take on.
Revenge is sweet; you'll have every opportunity for payback, because when you enter the space next to any of your opponent's pieces, they are transformed into yours. From solid to liquid or liquid to solid, transforming a solid red jewel into a liquid chrome drop requires heat, and heat you'll get in the form of lightning. When a liquid is alchemized into a solid, you'll see a frozen stream of ice particles.
Moves
There are two ways to complete your mission in Hexxagon. You may move one space, represented by a green neon outline, and your game piece is duplicated into that space. When you move two spaces, represented by a yellow neon glow, your gamepiece "jumps" to that space, but is not duplicated.
First click the red or blue arrow that appears each time it is your turn on the piece you want to move. Hexxagon will show you all of your potential moves for that piece, or any of your pieces you click on. The only possible moves are to free spaces, one or two spaces from your current position. You may then move the arrow to one of the allowable spaces indicated by the green and yellow neon glows and click again to move there. Any time you move next to one of your opponent's pieces, enjoy the fireworks!

After officially announcing Sands of Destruction Sega hasn’t said much about their Nintendo DS RPG. Out of the blue we’re treated to a new battle trailer with a giant teddy bear and a sample of the English voice acting. The voice samples might not be up to par, but the classic sprite battles look great. Also, this is probably the only RPG starring a bear that hyper jumps to the top screen and knocks bugs out of the sky.
Sands of Destruction is progressing, but Sega is sticking to the Winter 2010 release window that we discovered last month. Originally, Sands of Destruction was on target for Fall 2009, which means delays the end of the world three or four months.

Tantric and Carl Kenner have released DOSBox Wii 0.72.01 which means that eventually you should be able to play great games like Warcraft, Theme Park and others on Nintendo Wii, this could be a killer emulator for the Wii, heres the release details:
A port of DOSBox to the Wii using SDL Wii
Features
USB Keyboard and mouse support.
Wiimote pointer support.
SD/USB mounting.
Most DOS games are playable.
Instructions
You need a Wii Remote and a USB keyboard.
The C: drive will automatically be mounted to sd:/DOSBox/ if loaded from apps/dosbox-wii/. Otherwise, the directory the dol is loaded from will be mounted as C, and sd:/DOSBox as D (if present). The Z: driver is a virtual drive that is part of DOSBox.
Other drives can be mounted using the MOUNT command. Prefix sd: for an SD card, and usb: for a USB drive. The Wii's DVD drive and network folders can't be mounted at this time.
The configuration file is loaded from the directory the dol is located in (if present) and sd:/DOSBox/dosbox.conf otherwise. This file will be created automatically after you start DOSBox. Please edit it with a text editor to choose settings appropriate for each game.
Press the Home button, type "exit", press Ctrl+F9, or press Reset (on the console) to exit.
Compatability
Most games work properly now; however, many games will require some sort of adjustment to the dosbox.conf file. It is recommended to try the game you want to play on the PC version of DOSBox first to discover the optimum settings.
For a list, look at the DOSBox Wii Compatibility List.
If you can add new or updated info to the list, do it.
Known Issues
The joystick works, but only with the classic controller/nunchuk analog sticks
Sound isn't working properly.
Network/CDROM support is missing.
Troubleshooting
A certain game closes DOSBox, crashes with some message or hangs:
Delete the dosbox.conf file to restore the default settings.
Disable the sound (use the sound configuration program that comes with the game, additionally you can set sbtype=none and gus=false in the DOSBox configuration file)
Change some configuration entries in dosbox.conf, especially try:
fixed cycles (for example cycles=10000)
memsize
ems=false
xms=false
umb=false
or combinations of the above settings.
Use loadfix before starting the game
A certain game runs slowly:
Change the CPU cycles. By default DOSBox tries to detect whether a game needs to be run with as many instructions emulated per time interval as possible. You can force this behaviour by setting cycles=max in the DOSBox configuration file. In this mode you can reduce the amount of cycles on a percentage-basis (hit CTRL-F11) or raise it again (CTRL-F12). Sometimes manually setting the number of cycles achieves better results, in the DOSBox configuration file specify for example cycles=30000.
Increase the number of frames skipped. Pressing CTRL-F8 to increase the frameskip by 1. Repeat this until the game runs fast enough for you. You can also set this value permanently in the configuration file.
Disable the sound. You can try to disable the sound through the setup utility of the game to reduce load on your CPU further. Setting nosound=true does NOT disable the emulation of sound devices - just the sound output will be disabled.

Metaforic's Andrew Mclennan, a former game developer frustrated by piracy, spoke to Gamasutra about a new technology his company has created to reduce copying of DS games. Nintendo's tactic so far has been to try to stop the sale of the R4 flashcart in Japan and other countries, but the company is now working with Metaforic to attack the problem from a different angle.
Metaforic's MetaFortress technology, to be used in games by Nintendo and six other publishers starting this year, uses code stored in the actual game that detects the patching used by flashcarts, and then disables the ROM. "We take any DS game and inject a security scheme into the game itself," Mclennan told Gamasutra. "It turns each game into its own security system. Every time we apply it to a different game, it's a different security system."
Though he admits that the software could be hackable eventually, it would require a separate effort for each individual game ROM. "We add so much security to it that it will take a very long time to hack." Mclennan claims that even flashcart firmware patches will be unable to neutralize MetaFortress, though he didn't specify why.
Though Mclennan thinks flashcarts should be illegal, he "sympathizes" with the homebrew community. It wasn't his goal, but disabling flashcart-based piracy at the software level obviates the need for anti-flashcart legislation, which could be good news for homebrew fans.

Nintendo 64 title GoldenEye is a classic title and seems like a perfect fit for the Wii's Virtual Console. Seems, that is.
Alas, the Rare development game doesn't look like it will because of sticky legal issue: Rare is owned by Microsoft so that nixes the Virtual Console, and GoldenEye was first released on the N64 so that makes an XBLA release hard.
GoldenEye designer Martin Hollis certainly would like to see it on the Virtual Console, saying, "There's always someone with some exclusivity agreement, so there's lots of lawyers... I'm not going to hold my breath. I'd love it to happen, but I can't see it."

Its finally been released, heres the info:
BootMii is a set of software that can be installed on Nintendo Wii© consoles to provide added functionality, safety and convenience.
BootMii for Users:
BootMii is a piece of software that can be installed as an IOS or inserted into the boot process. As an IOS, it provides a fast way to back up your Wii's internal NAND flash memory, and will eventually form the basis of a new generation of homebrew applications for the Wii. Inserted into the boot process, BootMii provides you with a "safety net" -- you can back up your entire Wii to SD in under three minutes! If you were to brick your Wii, BootMii would still run and let you restore your backup from SD, quickly and painlessly. BootMii also allows you to directly boot the Homebrew channel or other homebrew from SD, bypassing the "warning screen" and the rest of the menu.
Coders:
You will have full access to both processors inside the Wii, and can inject code anywhere into the boot process. Want to write your own system menu? Stick it on your SD card and boot it. BootMii is powered by USBGecko -- as with the Homebrew Channel before it, you can upload code and run it via USBGecko. With BootMii, you can upload code to either processor a few seconds after poweron.
BootMii Installation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BootMii installation is a breeze, if you are already capable of running Homebrew. In any case we recommend launching the BootMii Installer through the Homebrew Channel if you are already capable of running homebrew.
People who don't have the Homebrew Channel on theirs wii yet can use either the Twilight Hack or BannerBomb to launch our newly designed installer. We won't be describing these methods in detail here, read the respective documentation yourself to figure out that part.
The new installer has been revamped a bit in comparison to our old installers, and is actually not just an installer for BootMii, but will also allow you to install The Homebrew Channel and DVDx. So if you don't have the Homebrew Channel or DVDx yet, you can use above mentioned exploits and our single all-in-one installer to install everything in one go.
After launching the installer, just follow the instructions on screen and you should be good to go within a minute or two.

Nintendo games do well on Nintendo platforms. Third party developers who don't release games with Mario (see SEGA's Sonic and Mario) have a harder time. No complaining though!
EA Sports president Peter Moore says its up to the developers to figure out how to make titles that do well on the Wii. "I think the emphasis is on the third parties to crack the code on the Wii, and there are some games that have done well from third parties, and figure out what we need to do when we're playing on the Wii to make that game successful," Moore explains.
"But at the same time," he continues, "it's not rocket science, and we in the publishing community have got to go and figure that out." One shovelware game at a time.

"One day, I will grow to be a great, big NES," the Littlest NES said with glee. "Just like you, papa!"
The Littlest NES's father was indeed the biggest, strongest NES in all the land. So the proclamation, though one of just a small boy, was not to be written off.
"Actually, son," Father confessed, "your mom was a Gameboy. So don't pick any fights or expect to play in the NBA. In fact, why don't you just stay home and play some video games."
"OK..." the Littlest NES replied, sadly. "But let me get this straight...I'm supposed to play with myself? How's that work?"
And with that, another flawless moment of parenting was entered into the pages of history.

What company would have the gall to release a series of science experiment mini-games for the Nintendo DS and Wii and call it Science Papa? Oh yeah, that company.
I'd use this space to explain that Science Papa casts the player in the role of newest member of Science Papa's research team, aiming at becoming the best scientist in the world by competing in more than 30 different mini-game-driven experiments, but I am far too stunned by Activision's choice of names to do so.
"With Science Papa, we're taking real-world elements of science and giving players the chance to interact with them in safe and creative ways," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. "While the focus here is clearly family fun, the game can stimulate interest and discussion about science."
Once again, still stunned, and I will probably remained stunned until the game hits store shelves this July.
We've reached out to North American Cooking Mama publisher Majesco to see what they think of this unexpected addition to the mini-game genre family, and expect a response from them later in the day.
