DCEmu Forum Member and Coder Simon Kagstrom posted this on his blog:
As has been discussed in comments before, I've started a googlecode project for a Nintendo Wii port of UAE, the Universal Amiga Emulator. It's based on the latest and greatest E-UAE sources and is built for SDL all the way.
Those that are familiar with the Wii homebrew "scene" will know that there is another port of UAE by someone called "Gouky". However, he never released sources for this even after repeated inquiries of it - which makes it a clear GPL violation. Clearly bad behavior, and this is the main reason I started this.
Today I have some progress to show:
That's a screenshot from an old Amiga demo. As you can see, graphics is a bit misaligned. Sound is also pretty wrecked and input does not work at all. It also crashes a lot, but it's progress at least. I'd like to invite other Wii developers to join in on this port, I will not be able to do it all by myself.
Update: Sound now works excellent, and I've found the cause of the crash. I'm able to play shufflepuck cafe as SDL has mouse emulation. It's very difficult though.

You may be aware, from hanging around the internet, that Japan loves the Nintendo DS. But it takes a nice little mix of pictures and statistics to really ram the point home.
This chart was released by Nintendo today, and shows the percentage of a market's population that owns a DS. By extension, it also explains succinctly just how bonkers the Japanese population has been for the handheld. I mean, over 20% of the population owning a DS? Crazy. That's one in five Japanese people. Not one in five Japanese gamers. One in five Japanese people.

Konami has unveiled a brand new Contra game due for launch on the Japanese WiiWare store tomorrow. There are no European plans yet, a spokesperson for the publisher told us this afternoon.
Dubbed Contra Rebirth, the game retains the run/jump/shoot core and has at least one boss bigger that's bigger than the screen, according to Konami Japan's statement (spotted by Offworld). Other details are scarce.
The series begun on NES in 1987 and has appear on just about every other platform since. The action follows heroes Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, who fight off an alien invasion in sleeveless t-shirts and headbands.
Contra and Super Contra have both appeared on Xbox Live, but both turned out to be rubbish.

There's enough booty for the whole family this week in the Nintendo Download, with handheld soccer, a Sega shooter, and a plundering party game up for grabs.
Aksys releases another game in the adorable Family line for WiiWare this week with Family Pirate Party, a pirate -themed board game by Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works. An adorable pirate family wanders about three game boards, scoring gold and playing mini-games until the father gets angry at the daughter for exposing her midriff and grounds everyone. At least I'm hoping that's the daughter. It it's the mother then she is a horrible role model. Family Pirate Party is only 500 Wii points.
The DSi gets its second 800 point DSiWare title in North America today, with the release of Real Soccer 2009 from Gameloft, which features 198 teams with real player names and the ability to create custom team flags and balls using the DSi camera. The game also boasts advanced artificial intelligence and "superior 3-D graphics", making it sound like the ultimate soccer experience on the DSi. Of course I could fit everything I know about soccer into one sentence alluding to my ignorance, so there you go.
Finally we light up the Virtual Console with Galaxy Force II for the Sega Genesis (800 Wii points), a 3D behind-the-back perspective space shooter that pits the player against an alien armada hell bent on getting shot by the player's spaceship.
Check out the official descriptions below for more info.
Nintendo DSiWare
Real Soccer 2009 (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Nintendo DSi Points™): It's time to live the soccer season to the max with Real Soccer 2009 on Nintendo DSi™. It will offer you a never-before-seen soccer experience with revolutionary yet easily accessible touch-screen controls. Take a photo of anything with the Nintendo DSi Camera and turn the image into your own custom ball or team flag, or even make yourself into your favorite player. With 198 teams using real player names, realistic opponent behaviors thanks to advanced artificial intelligence, and superior 3-D graphics, you'll feel just like a professional soccer player. Go ahead, take your best shot!
WiiWare
Family Pirate Party (Aksys Games, 1-4 players, Rated E 10+ for Everyone 10 and Older – Mild Cartoon Violence and Suggestive Themes, 500 Wii Points™): Daddy, Mommy, Sarah and Billy make their return as pirates sailing the seas and skies. Roll the dice and sail through the islands to gather the treasures each island holds. The person with the most gold at the end wins. Family Pirate Party shines with its appealing cel-shaded graphics and endearing music. Challenge up to three other players (friends, the CPU or both) for some four-player board-game fun. Do you have it in you to defeat your opponents and become the king of Family Pirate Party!?
Virtual Console
Galaxy Force II (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Galaxy Force II is an arcade shooter with a 3-D view from behind your spaceship. Fly through five different planets, taking on enemies in environments that range from a peaceful garden to lands made of fire or ice. Navigate treacherous landscapes by flying low over the planet's surface and blowing up enemy robots, ships and turrets, then flying through a tunnel to destroy the alien stronghold on each planet. It is your duty as part of the Galaxy Force to defend against the alien invasion and maintain peace in the solar system.

Majesco proudly announces that the mini-game powered Cooking Mama series has sold more than 4 million units domestically. How else would a cooking franchise sell?
Of course by domestically they mean in North America, with the company's number one franchise racking up more than four million sales between the five games in the series, which includes the recently released Gardening Mama. The company is also lowering the price for Cooking Mama World Kitchen for the Nintendo Wii to $29.99, which puts every game in the franchise under the $30 mark.
"We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone. Majesco's #1 franchise continues to resonate with gamers of all ages and genders," said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco. "We will continue to explore ways to expand the Mama brand with innovative and compelling products that offer new entertainment experiences."

Since Spectral Force Genesis was announced for Europe, a North American release seemed probable, if not inevitable. Thanks to an ESRB leak we know Ignition picked up the DS strategy game.
Spectral Force Genesis has players control an army, but unlike other strategy RPGs you command your troops by drawing paths on the touch screen. It’s sort of like a football playbook with… elves. One thing up in the air is the localization. Will Ignition will polish the European localization or are we’re going to get the same game? Either way the ESRB gives us some sample sentences from the North American release.
Character dialogue includes some suggestive references (e.g., “Let me see how different you taste from the harem girls,” “Physical love is not the only form of love,” and “Murimachi samurai exiled for adultery”). Some expletives (”bastard,” “damn,” and “hell”) and references to alcohol (e.g., “Famously drank an entire keg” and “His drunken fists don’t allow anyone to follow him.”) appear in the dialogue as well.
Because of obscure games like this and Docomodake DS Ignition is definitely a publisher we’re going to watch.

Square Enix set a release target for SaGa 2 Hihou Densetsu: Goddess of Destiny (Final Fantasy Legend II: Goddess of Destiny). Importers can pick up the from Japan this fall. A new trailer shows the game in 3D with its revised art style.
SaGa 2 begins with a kid hero saying goodbye to his father as he walks out a window. Years later the hero grows up and leaves home to search for his lost father. During his journey he discovers his Dad is more than he seems and is actually a guardian of crystals known as MAGI.
In addition to the new graphics Square Enix has one other surprise for SaGa fans. SaGa 2 Hihou Densetsu: Goddess of Destiny also has a wireless mode for 1-4 players

Until now Capcom was coy to confirm it, but Monster Hunter Tri is without a doubt getting an overseas release. Their 2008 financial results presentation states Monster Hunter Tri will come out in “FY 2009″ or, in plain English, sometime between April 2009 - April 2010. Monster Hunter Tri comes has an ambiguous summer target in Japan. I wouldn’t expect a domestic release until this winter.
Capcom’s presentation also explains their part of their platform strategy is to “introduce versions of major game series for the extremely popular Wii.” Nine Wii games are planned to ship within this fiscal year. Previously announced titles include: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Spyborgs, Monster Hunter 3, Resident Evil Archives, Resident Evil Zero Archives, and Monster Hunter G which shipped last month.
That gives us at least three titles to speculate on.

In-depth gameplay and visual customisation allows gamers to tweak experience
The creator of Sega’s The Conduit has claimed that the title will create a fillip in the success of FPS games on Wii.
The High Voltage-developed title takes players into a dark story in Washington D.C. after a vicious alien invasion has rocked the country.
The first person shooter garnered multiple awards at E3 last year, including three awards from IGN: Best Shooting Game (Wii), Best Graphics Technology (Wii) and Best Overall Wii Game.
High Voltage CEO Kerry J. Ganofsky told MCV: “Only a few have tried to succeed with FPS games on Wii. Those that have just haven’t offered gamers the entire package. FPS gamers want it all. They want precise controls, a fun single-player experience, a varied multiplayer offering, and yes they want high quality graphics. We understand this because we want these things ourselves.”
Lead producer Eric Nofsinger added: “The Conduit can absolutely change the FPS genre’s fortunes on Wii. We were very methodical with how we created this game. We set clear goals and didn’t stop iterating until we met those goals. Players can remap buttons, move HUD element placement, change run speeds, and so much more. This is something that only The Conduit offers and we hope that it becomes the standard in all games.”
The Conduit follows other ‘non-casual’ releases on Wii from Sega, including House Of The Dead Overkill and Madworld – but High Voltage does not believe the game is necessarily exclusively an ‘adult’ game.
"We don’t look at The Conduit as a mature game; we look at it as a gamer’s game,” added Nofsinger.
“From the start, we set out to provide the kind of FPS experience that all FPS gamers dreamed of when the Wii was first announced.”

As promised, today's episode of Pokémon Sunday brought the now not-so-surprising reveal of Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. While the actual revelation wasn't particularly mind-blowing, the episode did feature a few seconds of gameplay (posted after the break) that will likely whet the appetites of many a pocket-sized monster fanatic.
The gameplay itself isn't that interesting -- the protagonist merely walks in circles a few times -- though we do get a good sense of the Pearl and Diamond-esque art style the remakes will adopt. Also, if this clip is any indication, it looks like your starter pokémon will follow your character around in a Pokémon Yellow-esque fashion. We feel so sorry for Pokémon detractors. If you guys had hearts, that news would make them feel pretty warm.

A new wii exploit has been released by Comex that supposedly works on any version of the Wii (Menu) from 3.x-4.0 :
Details from Wiibrew
The exploit dubbed as BannerBomb created by Comex is the only public way to load homebrew applications on a System Menu 4.0 wii. The exploit was released on the 5th April 2009 through the IRC Channel #Wiidev. The exploit works by using a malformed banner to crash the wii loading the boot.dol placed in the root of the SD card. Currently this exploit does not allow the Homebrew channel to be installed due to the exploit that was used being blocked in 4.0.
Step by Step
Ensure your SD card is formatted as FAT. By default SD cards are formatted as FAT, so if you're not sure you can skip this step.
(Optional) Backup the "Private" folder on your SD card or rename it temporarily.
Copy the Bannerbomb "Private" folder to your SD Card.
Start the Wii, enter Settings, Data Management, Channels then SD Card. (NOT THE SD CARD MENU!)
A message should appear asking to load "Boot.dol" If not, try again with a different version.
Have fun!
FAQ
Does this work with the new v4.0 System Menu update?
Yes.
Can it load files from the internal SD slot?
Yes.
Can I load GameCube homebrew with this?
Not directly. Though you can use the Wii Gamecube Homebrew Launcher once you've got your Wii ready for homebrew.
What about if I use doltool or dol2elf?
No. These tools merely change the container file format, it does not convert between GameCube/Wii code.
What will happen to our current saves/channels?
You can back them up.
bannerbomb alpha
compatible (in theory) with 3.x-4.0
Get a SD card. If it has a private directory, rename it temporarily, e.g. to "privateold". Having other saved channels on the same card will screw it up.
Download aad1f_v102.zip and unzip it onto the SD card.
Get a DOL or ELF and put it on the SD as /boot.dol or /boot.elf.
Press (Wii), Data Management, Channels, SD. Then insert the card. It should either pop up Load /boot.dol? or freeze.
If it pops up a dialog, then fill out the survey.
If it freezes, follow these diagnostics:
Did you use the SD menu (4.0) or click Savedata instead of Channels? If so, then you're dumb
Otherwise, try a different version. The system menu is somewhat unpredictable; while most people should be able to use version i don't know yet, some might need another version. Try these versions: aad20_v102.zip
aad22_v102.zip
aad1e_v102.zip
aad26_v102.zip
...others?
survey FILL THIS OUT PLX
which version works for you?
Bugs:
If it gives you the dialog but freezes instead of loading the dol, email me[ comexk at gmail dot com]. Tell me where it froze and whether or not the slot light is on. You might also try removing the disc.
If you press "no" when it asks you whether you want to load a dol then it might freeze.
It is possible to press the back button "under" the dialog. Make sure you don't do that.
FAQ:
You can't actually install the homebrew channel or anything-- the bootmii installer will be able to do that soon, I hope. for god's sake don't use downgrade guides they're made of fail
There isn't a "4.0 version" or a "3.2 version"-- you should use aad1f.zip no matter what version of the menu you have. Try the other versions only if aad1f doesn't work.

At NISA's San Francisco press event last night, the publisher happily unveiled that it would be bringing Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love to the US. The anime-styled, robot-filled RPG is scheduled for launch this Fall and combines traditional dating-sim elements with mechanized combat.
Sakura Wars puts the story in the player's hands, as the player's interaction with the game dramatically influences the ending (there are six in all, all of them fully animated). As the player nurtures relationships between certain characters, their performance in battle will also improve and the strength of their combination attacks soars. This means that the game's social elements are closely tied to the battle system.
Once engaged in battle, players can either fight on the ground or in the air, as the bipedal robots can transform freely between humanoid and jet forms. Depending on what form the robots take, their attacks will also change accordingly.
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is spread across eight story chapters which will last approximately four to five hours each. The game takes place in New York and will also feature plenty of mini-games and bonus features once the player completes the main story.

After rumors last week claimed Krome Studios to be working on an upcoming multiplatform Star Wars game, tentatively titled The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, Entertainment Weekly has since confirmed the game's existence.
In the same aesthetic vein as the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the trailer focuses on a poorly voiced Yoda and -- big surprise! -- the possibility that failure means "all will be lost." Dare we say it? The graphics just aren't that impressive, especially compared with last year's The Force Unleashed. Still, the game's only out (on every system ever) by September 15th. Perhaps it'll catch our eye before then!
