While we hear Punch Out!! is quite good, it's safe to say the Wii hasn't exactly been flooded with great titles lately. The most enjoyable part of the system still comes from the Virtual Console and all the classic titles that populate it, and soon you'll be able to pair those games with the classic controllers they were written for thanks to Komodo's Retro Adapter. Sure, we've seen some rather... unsophisticated ways of making N64 controllers work in the past, and Nintendo itself hopped on the retro bandwagon with a first-party Wii SNES gamepad, but Komodo's adapter has no exposed solders, looks like a wee N64, and even lets you use your creaky old NES pad. No official word on availability, but expect a $20 price sometime in June. We'll be bringing you more from E3.

Japan's Association of Copyright for Computer Software president Yutaka Kubota expressed to Famitsu grave concerns about the proliferation and use of Nintendo DS flash cart devices such as the R4DS.
Referring to the volume of illegally downloaded DS software, Kubota remarked that, "It's not a matter of numbers anymore," adding, "The fact is that you can download any Nintendo DS game as much as you want, so there's no way to even calculate the damage. This is an issue that affects our national interests, and personally, I see it as a form of information terrorism that is crushing Japan's industry."
In the interview translated by 1UP, Kubota called on the magazine's readers to stand firm against piracy, saying that, "I want them to be aware that unless we do something, nobody will be able to make the games they love to play. Not only will gamers wanting to play new games not be able to play anything, but people who want to join the game industry in the future will have their dreams trampled upon."
Japan's laws do not currently forbid the purchase of devices like the R4, nor the downloading of commercial software for use with them. A new copyright bill under review would make it illegal to download copyrighted media, but doesn't expressly give authorities the right to arrest offenders.

SEGA fans that long hoped Jambo! Safari would make the jump from arcade to Dreamcast can smile wide today with the news that the game is now en route to the Wii and DS. Jambo! Safari is an animal herding-capturing game where you roar across the savannah in a jeep and wrangle big game into custody with a lasso. (If you have ever seen the John Wayne classic "Hatari!" then you essentially know the score in Jambo! Safari.) However, the Wii and DS versions of the game, while based on the arcade edition, are expanded ports with additional objectives and updated visuals.
In Jambo! Safari, you choose from four different safari rangers and slide them behind the wheel of a jeep. The game employs licensed vehicles, including the Land Rover Defender 90. Your rangers are both customizable and upgradable. Once you are ready to go, drop the hammer and zoom out into the wilds to look for hurt animals that need your help. Many of the missions in Jambo revolve around locating animals in distress and treating their problems, however you will also head out on photo safari runs and the occasional hot air balloon ride.
In the arcade game, you not only had to worry about driving your jeep, but you also needed to focus on launching your lasso at just the right time to bring in your target animal, such as a rhino. These mechanics are instantly compatible with the Wii remote. The Wii edition of Jambo! Safari, sub-titled Animal Rescue, indeed uses the remote as a virtual lasso to snare animals while the nunchuk drives. The Wii game also includes extra events, like ostrich racing, as well as co-op missions for two players. No word yet on if co-op is online.
Jambo! Safari (Arcade)Hopefully, Jambo! On the Wii does not sacrifice the crazed careening of the jeep as you attempt to zero in on a sprinting giraffe. The intense balancing act of throwing the lasso and keeping your jeep upright was what made the arcade game such a charmer... for those that could actually locate a cabinet. However, you can appreciate SEGA's desire to change the objectives of the rangers. Instead of hunting the animals for sport and captivity, you are now trying to help them.
The DS version, also sub-titled Animal Rescue, seems oriented toward younger players with an emphasis on caring for the animals. Gary Knight, European Marketing Director SEGA Europe, reinforces this impression. "Jambo! Safari makes learning fun, whilst children are playing the game and rescuing the wild animals they collect information cards, meaning they learn the characteristics of the animals and their natural habitat as they play."
Look for more information about Jambo! Safari to come out of E3 next month. But in the meantime, check out the first screens from the Wii game.

May 20th, 2009, 22:45 Posted By: wraggster
Last September, Japanese development star Level-5 announced a flood of new titles for DS and PSP. It's been a few months, but the first games from that flood are at last trickling out.
Japanese DS players will get Sloane and McHale's Mysterious Story on Thursday. This will be followed by Atama no Taisou, a brain training game that will ship in two parts for the DS on June 18. Inazuma Eleven 2 will follow these a bit later in the year on October 1.
Those are some major releases, but the most notable title from last year's announcement is still a ways out. Ni no Kuni: The Another World is set for release some time in 2009, and while we haven't heard much about it since its announcement, Famitsu came through with some much needed details in its latest issue.
You'll recall Ni no Kuni as the DS RPG that's being developed in collaboration with Studio Ghibli. It was previously revealed that the main character lost his mother, and now hopes to revive her by journeying to the Ni no Kuni world. Famitsu managed to fill in some of the missing blanks in its latest issue.
The boy's name is Oliver, and he's 13 years old. He lives in the city of Hotroit with his mother, Arie, who dies suddenly. Appearing before a distraught Oliver is a fairy named Shizuku -- actually, a doll that Oliver's mother had given him, now come to life. Shizuku tells Oliver that by going to Ni no Kuni, he may be able to revive his mother. Oliver decides to take the journey.
When Oliver and Shizuku enter Ni no Kuni, they first come to Goronel Kingdom, which is ruled by Nyandal the 14th, a lazy cat. The people of Goronel are apparently troubled by their leader's laziness, as Oliver learns by speaking with the citizens.
As previously detailed, the people Oliver encounters in the Ni no Kuni world are all variations of people from the real world. Oliver himself takes on the clothes of an adventurer when in Ni no Kuni, although it appears that his name remains the same. Layla, a lady who sells milk in the real world, becomes Kaula, the Queen of Vavalencia who has an insatiable appetite. Nyandal the 14th is, in the real world, a neighborhood cat named Frank.
Those characters were all previously announced. The latest Famitsu report offers a look at Marl, a fearless girl who loves to sing and ends up adventuring alongside Oliver. In the real world, Marl is Shelly, a girl who's sick and cannot go outside. Oliver also meets a talking rat named Magooru. In the real world, Magooru is Mark, Oliver's buddy.
As with the characters, you'll end up finding some parallels between the city of Hotroit and the world of Ni no Kuni. They're actually described as "parallel worlds." The name "Hotroit," incidentally, does appear to be a play on Detroit, as the city describes itself as the "Motor City."
As big as all these story details are, the real reason the general public (in Japan at least) has taken note of Ni no Kuni is due to its connection with Studio Ghibli. In an interview in Famitsu, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino and Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki revealed that animation powerhouse got to work on the animation side of the game around July of last year. It's been over 10 months, and they're still working on it!
We can probably expect some of the highest quality animation yet produced for the DS when Ni no Kuni: Another World hits Japan later this year.

PypeBros us discover his new game engine through the demo of "Bilou in Green Woods." You play Bilou is need to harvest all the apples on the level.
Quote:
Here is finally a "circulation" of my little game engine This is still not perfect, of course, both technical and graphic or gameplay, but it allows you to see a better idea on this how I work.
You Dirrig Bilou my blue mascot, that you jump with 'Y' and the goal is to collect all the apples on the level, and a "great" welcome you if you are 16. You can make you "hurt" (as often as you want) on the ground, but for now, you are invincible jumping. And it still lacks a convincing background.

Chalk this one up as curious: we've seen a DS Lego strategy game from the people who brought Supreme Commander to the Xbox 360.
Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment was in New York City yesterday to show off a bunch of games, including Scribblenauts, which I knew to ask for, Mini Ninjas, which is embargoed, some other stuff and, oh yes, another Lego game.
Assuming I knew the Lego gaming formula cold I didn't expect anything new.
And I was running short on time and requested the five-minute speed-demo.
Too bad, because this one's a real curiosity. Lego Battles is a real-time-strategy game controlled with the DS stylus. Players control Castle-series Lego men, then graduate to Pirate levels and, finally Space Lego units. (I almost typed "Legos," but the last time I did that elicited some angry reader feedback.)
I saw very little of the game but enough to pique my curiosity. After all, the RTS genre was expected to flourish on the DS but instead has barely appeared on Nintendo's handheld.
In traditional RTS fashion, the player draws a box around their Lego units and clicks on places for them to move to or attack. A pull-down menu enables the player to build to build appropriately-themed Lego structures: towers and factories and the like. There was no drag-and-drop Lego construction, but manual block-building hasn't been much of a component of any of the recent Lego games.
The British Columbia-based development studio, Hellbent Games has previously worked on the port of the RTS Supreme Commander to the Xbox 360, suggesting some familiarity with the genre. TT Games, the studio behind the many recent Lego franchise games, is producing.
The game's press release teases 90 levels, multiplayer and the ability to mix the three Lego themes — plus ninjas. Lego Battles ships next month.
Is this enough to get excited about? Not quite. But imagine being told there's a Lego light-gun shooter for PSP or a Lego fighting game for the PS3. Such things don't exist (as far as we know). But a Lego RTS on RTS-starved DS? It's coming and worth a mention.

Jambo! Safari may not be Sega's most recognizable arcade title, but it ranks as a personal favorite. So I'm probably more excited than 99% of you to learn that Sega is finally bringing it home.
Sega has announced that Jambo! Safari, a port of the 1999 arcade title, will be coming to the Wii later this year with "modern graphics and deeper gameplay, suited to today's Nintendo consumers." Staying true to the arcade original, players can choose one of four safari rangers and a small fleet of vehicles to catch and photograph African wildlife. It will arrive as Jambo! Safari Ranger Adventure, adding required-by-Wii-law mini-games including "Ostrich Racing" and "Meerkat Madness."
Trust me, it's far more fun than I'm making it out here, akin to similar Sega arcade titles released at the time like Crazy Taxi and 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker.
Also potentially exciting is an announced Nintendo DS version of Jambo! Safari, dubbed Jambo! Safari Animal Rescue. Details and media are still scarce.

Former Countdown queen Carol Vorderman is to star in Nintendo's new healthy living title for DS.
Active Health with Carol Vorderman comes complete with a pedomoter - or rather an Activity Meter, as they're calling it. Input your personal details and Carol will personally calculate your BMI. She'll then come up with a programme detailing how many calories you need to consume and how much exercise you need to do.
There's a calorie counter that can track how much fat, salt and sugar you're eating, plus more than 70 recipes and a shopping list feature.
Every day Carol will give you a daily step target and you can keep a record of how you're doing with the Activity Meter. Data can then be transferred to the DS via infrared. You can input other activities too, and sync up Active Health with Wii Fit to keep track of exercises done using the Wii balance board.
There's a mini-game, too - Calorie Count Up, where you have to choose items from a selection and try to reach the target of 1000 calories. You can play alone or against Carol.
Active Health with Carol Vorderman will be released in the UK on 7th August.

French publisher Ubisoft has signed sports icon Pelé to front its first entry into the lucrative football genre.
Academy of Champions is a football title for Nintendo's Wii, and highlights the continued efforts by Ubisoft to take a chunk of the market currently dominated by Electronic Arts' FIFA and Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer brands.
"We made our mark in the sports genre last year with the global success of Shaun White Snowboarding," offered Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft. "Now, with Academy of Champions, Ubisoft offers another sports game with a fresh approach that has something unique to offer young gamers and sports fans."
Breaking into new genres is central to Ubisoft's growth plans. Its Shaun White Snowboarding title has notched up over 2 million units sales to date.
The signing of Brazil's national hero Pelé will help market the arcade sports title, which also uses the Wii Balance Board and Wii MotionPlus, and has been developed internally at Ubisoft Vancouver.
"Football is a sport that is universally celebrated by all citizens of the world," added Pelé. "Working with Ubisoft to continue to promote the sport has been a wonderful experience. It is a thrill to continue to inspire a new generation of fans through an entertainment medium that introduces them to the exciting world of football."
The game is due for release in 2009.
