The Wii has a great fighting game on retail disc (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) but downloadable brawlers are scarce for WiiWare. Actually, they're nonexistent. Toribash hopes to change that when it brings its customizable fighter to Nintendo's service. The game is already available as a free download for PC and Mac and bears the tagline "Violence Perfected." What sets the game apart from other fighting games is that players design their own moves. It sports a minimal art style but we should have a lot of freedom to create personalized attacks. Your character has 20 joints that can be played with.
Once you've implemented your own fighting style you can play against other Toribashers online. The game will support ranking, matchmaking, and chat messages.
Wii owners will be getting an exclusive feature in their version of Toribash: hair! The models are bald but can be customized with different hair styles and colors.
Toribash does not have a release window, yet, but we'll have more info on this intriguing WiiWare game soon.

THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) today announced the next addition to its incredibly successful Drawn to Life franchise, Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter is currently in development exclusively for Wii and Nintendo DS . Featuring an innovative new action drawing feature and enhanced drawing tools, Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter will give players new creative tools and immerse them into new worlds they create and explore. The game is scheduled for release in fall 2009.
"Drawn to Life continues to be tremendously successful because it delivers a creative experience unlike any other game out there. "Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter raises the creative bar with a totally new experience for both Wii and Nintendo DS fans alike."
About Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter
In Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter for Wii, players will draw their own heroes using the Wii Remote to find the Artifacts of Power and rid the Raposa village of an evil, shadowy figure that has taken over the land. Throughout the game, players will draw more than 100 unique items from robust drawing tools, such as vehicles, weapons and tools, to conquer their enemies. The all-new Action Drawing tool allows for objects to be drawn directly into the game to help navigate through several environments, including a sky world, a jungle and a shadow city. In addition, the game's multi-player feature will allow players to draw their team members and equipment to compete against others in a variety of mini-games, such as soccer, hockey and basketball.
In Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter for Nintendo DS, players will be able to draw their own heroes, be it humans, animals or multi-limbed creatures, and will embark on a brand new adventure aboard a Turtle Ship to defeat the evil Wilfre and restore color to the Raposa civilization. Players will have the ability to morph their hero into a blob or a spider, adding more gameplay and allowing for players to play each level a variety of different ways. The game's Action Drawing Tool gives each color special properties when drawing objects into the game to help solve puzzles and progression through the game. Along the way, they will collect coins and color drops to unlock a variety of content, including challenges and quests, customization options and hero abilities. In addition, the game's multi-player aspect allows players to trade heroes, weapons, items and accessories with friends.

Since New Play Control! Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes comes out in Japan soon we have screenshots for 1/3 of Metroid Prime Trilogy, the Metroid Prime 2 part of course.
No huge differences to note since this is based on a Gamecube game. The only difference I see is there appears to be a minor change in multiplayer mode. It looks like players have less vertical shooting room in widescreen mode.

Nintendo just launched a new Wii Channel that beats /pizza. The Demae Channel (Catering Channel) lets users point and pick dinner with the Wii remote.
Categories include pizza, sushi, bento boxes, Chinese food, Western food, and others. Pizza Hut falls in pizza while KFC strangely falls into the “others” group. Once an order is placed users wait for the food to arrive and pay the delivery person in cash, not Wii Points. The service also plans to offer coupons to cut the price of meals.
Similar to the Wii no Ma Channel Nintendo has a third party partner running the Demae Channel. Yume no Machi Souzou Iinkai, a door to door food delivery corporation, is handling the day to day business. Actually, the channel looks like a Wii interface for an existing food delivery website Yume no Machi Souzou Iinkai currently operates. Since the infrastructure is provided by an outside party it might be difficult for Nintendo of America to create a Western equivalent.

LucasArts backs up the ESRB listings for Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the Nintendo DS and PSP with an official announcement, promising to take the multiplayer battles to several new levels.
Elite Squadron is a new twist on the Battlefront series, for the first time allowing players to start a battle on land, commandeer a vehicle to take to the skies and space, and then land on a capital starship, continuing the battle there. The battles on each front are directly affected by the player's actions, so every shot counts, no matter where the gun it's fired from might be.
Elite Squadron also features an all-new single player story in the Star Wars universe, with players assuming the role of a force-sensitive clone trooper X2, who ignores order 66 and joins the Rebellion, much to the chagrin of his evil twin, X1.
The PSP version of the game promises to be the most customizable game in the series, with the ability to modify every aspect of your character, from clothing to physical strengths, with hundreds of unlockable items to further personalize your clone trooper.
With 16-player multiplayer on the PSP, 4-player skirmishes on the DS, and an all-new "Heroes and Villains" mode that puts players in the roles of major Star Wars good guys and bad guys, Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron sounds like it will add up to one hell of an experience once it launches this fall.

Nabi Studios reckons turn-based ragdoll fighting game Toribash can fill a gaping genre-hole on WiiWare this year.
Speaking exclusivley to Eurogamer, creator Hampus Soderstrom said he considered other platforms such as Xbox Live Arcade but believes the biggest opportunity is on Nintendo's family console.
"I always just liked the platform better and thought it would suit Toribash much better. And also Wii didn't have any [fighting games]. OK it has Smash Bros. [Brawl], but fighting titles are really lacking on Wii," he said.
"Check in the WiiWare Store and there's only one game listed in the fighting genre category, and that's a snowboarding game that has a sort of fighting element."
Only, Toribash is very violent. The game pits two ragdoll fighters against each other and declares the winner as the person who inflicts the most damage on the other. The user points with the Wiimote and orders each body-part a different command every mini-turn, a bit like stop animation. The result is lots of blood as arms and legs and heads go flying.
"The only limitation is your creativity," said Soderstrom, who thinks it's "pretty cool" when players "take off their own arms and use them as the weapon".
Nintendo were "pretty okay" with the idea, surprisingly, which resulted in Toribash being rated Teen for including Fantasy Violence, which Soderstrom - who invented the game because he likes Judo - snorted at.
He hit a couple of restrictions, such as making sure characters don't look like Miis and discarding user mods, but otherwise the content is unaffected. Soderstrom has even managed to add hair to the Tors, implement a "more intense" online multiplayer matchmaking tournament system, make the blood more realistic and integrate the all important video sharing facility.
"In Toribash [PC] if you want to share a video you have to go to the forum and you need to upload it and [the other players will] rate it there. On Wii we have that built in; the game has a system for sending and receiving replays, which is very nice," he told us.
Tor's joints can be boosted to be stronger and faster by shaking the Wiimote, and we'll be automatically ranked globally or among friends depending on how good we are. And we're not very good.
As for the PC version, that's been played 20 million times, according to Soderstrom. But then that SKU has been around since 2006 and is free, where the WiiWare version will be offered at a premium. Just how much he doesn't know yet, because "it's not up to us really to decide that".
But why should we pay? "We've added a big new experience and it's always going to be fun to play," he explained, adding that he's not sure how well it will sell, but that he's simply focused on making the game "as good as possible".
As for a release, Toribash will be done "when it's done", although Soderstrom said it will definitely be this year - there's about two months of development left plus a month of certification to get through.
And, once that's out of the way, Soderstrom and team can get back to Toribash on PC.
"We keep doing updates, not every month but every other month, adding some features," he said. "At the moment we're going to do a 4.0 version, that's going to be out when we finish the Wii game."
Pop over to Eurogamer TV to see Toribash Wii in action. Alternatively take in some still pictures in our Toribash gallery.
Or, better still, pop over to the Toribash website and try the game for yourself. It's fiendishly addictive.

Majesco has unveiled perspective-altering platform-puzzle game Flip's Twisted World for Wii.
The full game will be out in January next year and we're told there will be a demo at E3. For now, however, we've only screenshots and a brief description to go by.
Flip's Twisted World follows the eponymous hero as he is sucked into and imprisoned in a crazy cube world. He'll need to find magical tools to escape, so players will need to twist the world using the Wiimote so Flip can navigate his way around, turning walls into ceilings and so on and so forth.
There are characters to meet along the way, plus optional side-quests offering alternate costumes and goodies. Videogame legend Tommy Tallarico will be doing the music, too.

The Conduit developer High Voltage has unveiled exclusive Wii game Gladiator AD, which aims to "redefine the fighting game genre on the Wii".
Full production has been under way for several months and the team hopes for a Q1 2010 release. And High Voltage, which promised big with FPS The Conduit, is more ambitious and confident than ever.
"Gladiator AD is going to redefine the fighting game genre on the Wii," design director David Pellas told IGN.
"The game features an unmatched graphic fidelity, enthralling musical score, and strategic combat. This, coupled with the familiar setting and intuitive controls, is what sets it apart from anything ever released."
Gladiator AD will be brutal and active but also strategical and feature plenty of RPG elements, such as a deep story affected by player-decisions as well as character customisation. Players will control unique personalities with their own backstories, fighting styles and motivations. High Voltage will pull few punches replicating the violence of the age, too.
"This game is brutally violent, but is not Mortal Kombat," added Pellas. "There is no over-the-top spine ripping. It's authentic, not ridiculous. We do have finishers, which can get pretty nasty to watch, though." These will be a choice of execution, humiliation or brutality moves.
Combat will be presented over-the-shoulder and be controlled via Wiimote and nunchuk. They represent the left and right hands and can attack either left or right or overhead. There's a choice of heavy or light blows, depending on how quickly you want to strike, plus special power attacks and crowd-pleasing brutality manoeuvres. The camera will slow down to lend these a cinematic quality.
Defence is spread across blocks, parries and dodges. Blocks, when held, partially soak damage. Players can wiggle the analogue stick to attempt a perfect block and throw their opponent off as well as negate all incoming damage.
High Voltage describes the combat as a cross between Bushido Blade and Fight Night. "There is no button-mashing here," explained Pellas. There will, however, be Lions and other "environmental hazards".
Wii MotionPlus will be supported and add variance to attacks, plus other possible applications that High Voltage is "looking into".
"For example," said Pellas, "depending on the orientation of the player's wrist when a left slice is initiated, the gladiator will attack his opponents right side from one of three angles, making it slightly more difficult to perfect block player's using the Wii MotionPlus.
Multiplayer will feature, although we only know this will entail split-screen multiplayer. High Voltage is looking at other ways to "beef up the experience" but cannot talk about them yet.
High Voltage's Wii debut will be made with The Conduit on 26th June. The studio has promised to redefine the image of FPS games on the console and what they can achieve. It's looking rather promising, too
