Tecmo has revealed plans to jump into the family sports fray with Family Fun Football, scheduled to hit the field this fall. The arcade style casual game features 10 (unlicensed) teams, some wacky mascots, mini-games and an unlockable mode for players to use their own Mii creations.
Family Fun Football also includes a "Simple Playbook" feature, which Tecmo claims will "[make] it easy for everyone to learn and understand the game of football." If that's the case, perhaps most of the Joystiq staff should be picking this one up! Overall it sounds like some good family fun to us. Apart from having to unlock the Mii Mode. That's kind of lame.

Thanks, Lisa Kudrow. You're selfless shilling of Nintendo's DS puzzler Professor Layton and the Curious Village may have guaranteed the American appearance of the sequel. Amazon.com is listing the second game for an August release.
The online retailer is showing Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box as arriving on these shores on August 24th. Call that unconfirmed, because Nintendo of America has yet to announce the game for a release, let alone dating the thing. But Amazon's listing notes the next Layton title will have "tons of in-game puzzles of different types and difficulties" and "three times the voiced dialogue and movies of its predecessor," which would seem like they know what they're talking about.
The Japanese version, known as Layton Kyouju to Akuma no Hako, shipped in November of 2007 to solid sales. A third game in the series, Layton Kyouju to Saigo no Jikan Ryokou, was released for the Nintendo DS in Japan late last year.
If Amazon's listing is accurate, that's good news for fans of the series.

News/release from Quipeace
Hey all!
I'm currently working on PaddleDS and thought it was ready for a bèta release .
This isn't my first game, others were lost when my harddrive failed... It is however my first ever release
There isn't much to do yet, the only menu option that works is "Play Game", but the others will be working soon.
The game itself is far from finished, it's fine to get a first game play impression though!
Have fun and post your ideas and feedback here
Known Issues:
Ball is drawn to the paddle when it is below it.
No collision with the goal.
Ball will fall trough floor

If you love to import, and you love yourself some Square Enix, we'd suggest setting aside a few pennies (about 6,000 of them!) for August. Square Enix's Japanese office gave an unexpected date today to one of its previous date TBA games, Blood of Bahamut.
The action RPG will be released to Japan on August 6. Pricing has been set to a slightly higher-than-usual 5,980 yen (most DS titles cost 5,040 yen).
As detailed in previous updates, Blood of Bahamut is a multiplayer action RPG in which up to four players team up to do real time battle against giants with such familiar names as Sheeva and Ifreet. The game promises over 130 missions both for story mode and free play.
While news of a Japanese date may not seem like a big deal to most, Blood of Bahamut sounds like a safe bet for international release at some point, so the sooner it comes out in its home territory, the sooner it has a chance of coming our way.

Tantric has released libwiigui 1.03 :
libwiigui is a GPL licensed GUI library for the Wii, created to help structure the design of a complicated GUI interface, and to enable an author to create a sophisticated, feature-rich GUI. It was originally conceived and written after I started to design a GUI for Snes9x GX, and found libwiisprite and GRRLIB inadequate for the purpose. It uses GX for drawing, and makes use of PNGU for displaying images and FreeTypeGX for text. It was designed to be flexible and is easy to modify - don't be afraid to change the way it works or expand it to suit your GUI's purposes! If you do, and you think your changes might benefit others, please share them so they might be added to the project!
Features
Extensible classes
Built-in TTF, PNG support (uses FreeTypeGX and PNGU/libpng)
Built-in sound support (OGG and PCM)
Integrated hotspot support
Automatic handling of navigation via controller pad
Window focus support
Sophisticated object positioning
Comprehensive object state and event system
Support for animated effects
Included template and sample class extensions (eg: on-screen keyboard)
1.03 - May 22, 2009
Add file browser class to template - browses your SD card
New images for the template (thanks mvit!)
Add a function to get the parent element

Publishing house Xseed Games today announced that it will distribute the "haunted house simulator," Ju-On: The Grudge, based on the horror movie of the same name, for Wii. The game is in development and will be released stateside this October, according to the company.
In an official release, Xseed elaborated that the movie's original creator, Takashi Shimizu, is serving as a creative consultant on the project, and that "... accessibility and instant scares are given priority over all other game aspects."
Plot details below, verbatim, courtesy Xseed's release:
It is said that when a person dies with a deep and burning grudge, a curse is born. When an average housewife in Nerima, Japan, was murdered in a grisly fashion, it gave rise to a curse so powerful that it threatens to kill at a pace thought unimaginable before.
The curse manifests on those who encounter the curse by any means, such as entering the house or being in contact with somebody who was already cursed. Once Erika Yamada is exposed to the curse while searching for her dog in an abandoned warehouse, the entire Yamada family is put in grave danger as soon as she reunites with them at home. They must now face their individual challenges alone, and only by overcoming the curse together will their family truly be free again.
"Ever since I first heard about this unique concept, this is a game that I've been looking forward to," said Jun Iwasaki, President of Xseed Games. "JU-ON: The Grudge makes quick scares accessible to anyone with a Wii, players can even hand the Wii Remote to their mother and enjoy watching her play and get scared."
In Ju-On: The Grudge, players will use the WIi remote as a flashlight, move forward with the touch of a button and explore creepy locations like an abandoned warehouse, a dark hospital and the always-disturbing mannequin factory. "Much like a haunted house, the player must proceed forward even after being frightened and running away from the initial threat," the company clarified in its release.
The two will also feature a quasi-two-player mode in which the second player can grab an additional Wii remote and "push buttons to make in-game events happen immediately to make the player jump and hate you forever."

Konami picked up the license to Penguin no Mondai (A Penguin’s Troubles) for a Nintendo DS platformer last year. A sequel is in development and it decks Kinoshita, the penguin, in Saint Seiya style armor.
In Penguin no Mondai X: Tenkuu no 7 Senshi (A Penguin’s Troubles X: Seven Warriors of the Sky) Kinoshita Beckham faces Hell’s army in a decisive battle. With his metallic vulture helmet and golden axes Kinohsita is as ready as he will ever be. The outfit is so over-the-top ridiculous it’s awesome.
Other than the character design Konami hasn’t revealed much about the DS game. It’s described as an amazing transforming battle adventure and has wireless play for four, two if you’re using download play. Japan gets A Penguin’s Troubles X: Seven Warriors of the Sky on July 23.

If you were jealous of Japan's New Play Control releases of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, don't be. Nintendo of America just announced plans to release all three (non-pinball) Metroid Prime games on a single Wii disc as Metroid Prime Trilogy. The press release says that it was developed by "Retro Studios and Nintendo." Did Retro itself work on the refit before leaving Nintendo, or does the Retro credit apply only to the original games?
Metroid Prime 1 and 2 will be enhanced with a widescreen mode and the pointer-based Wii controls from the Japanese re-releases. Metroid Prime 3 won't be, because it was already a Wii game and already has them. The collection will feature a "new unlockables system" that allows access to bonus artwork and other rewards based on accomplishments in all three games -- Corruption's "token" system applied to the whole series.
Trilogy will be out in North America on August 24 for $50.
