Noda posted this news:
Hi, I just finished my first NDS project : Quick & Dirty Save Manager for Supercard
As its name says, it's a save manager for Supercard (SD&CF, maybe M3 as well) ^^
you can:
-create multiple save for a game (up to 9)
-change the current save for a game
-create a new empty save for a game
-copy the current save to a new one
-erase a save
it's a little slow, but it's due to the write function of the FAT lib which is slow (or if you know a way to write on sd/cf faster, let me know)
It was made in 3 days, so do a backup of your saves before trying...
let me know if you find bugs.

Tom's Hardware has an editorial up on the Nintendo Wii in which the author postulates that the new name may be a bigger PR stunt than it looks. From the article: 'Saying Wii is controversial mainly in the English-speaking world (the Japanese can't even pronounce it); in France, for instance, it's a homonym for oui. But the upcoming E3 Expo plays mostly to an English-speaking crowd, even though it's an international event. It's just over a week to E3, where Sony fans will be all giddy and running around like they have a Blu-ray chasing their tails. Amid all this, Nintendo announces a name change which is not only interesting, but controversial. You can't not notice it. Essentially, Nintendo steals more than a wee bit of Sony's thunder.

Welcome back to The Pipeline, a weekly feature where we dig through the mainstream media and see what the pundits, prognosticators and and pencil pushers have been discussing over the past week.
This week, the media was all over Nintendo's announcement that the gaming console formerly codenamed Revolution would henceforth be known as Wii. And, not surprisingly, most of the mainstream journos covering the story concurred with our assessment that the name somehow isn't going to wiin Niintendo any kudos. "Is Nintendo being desperately silly to attract attention, or is it just desperately short of clue?" asked the Guardian, while the Financial Times headlined its article "Wii aren't too sure about this." However, Nintendo did have at least one defender, Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities, who pointed out that "N-Gage and Gizmondo are cool names" that didn't help those products win many fans. "Consumers relate to the coolness of the product, not the name." Wii'll see, Michael, Wii'll see.
Of course, the Wii announcement wasn't the only story in the news this week, and the mainstream press managed to crank out a few other interesting nuggets. USA Today took a look at the Pioneer Inno, and declared it "a winner," while The New York Times looked at the growing number of home docking systems for cellphones. Meanwhile, Forbes looked at another way to use cellphones at home, checking out the market for UMA-enabled handsets. Our favorite media hit this week, though, came from the Washington Post, which took an in-depth look at the DDR-as-exercise phenom, with the paper's reporter declaring, "Hello, my name is Caroline, and I'm addicted to 'Dance Dance Revolution.'" Hey, at least she's not addicted to the Wii.

Thanks to Birslip & ElHobito, I've successfully developped a really really really simple chat between 2 NDS. First, connection settings are retrieved from the firmware. So, WFC data must be correct. Then, used port is 8888, so you would have to route this port to your NDS? on your router config. Then, you must know the IP of your counterpart. That's a lot of bad things, I know.
To use the chat, first enter the dest IP with the keyboard, then press enter. Then you can start to send messages. The chat just displays the last received message, and the last sent. This chat won't be improved !!! It's really just a demo.

DynaStab posted this news/release
I’ve re-implemented the Conway’s Game of Life yet again. This time its much faster, but not yet as trippy as the last version (which you can see in my blog archives). It’s incredibly addicting for me.
The rules to the game are simple, but amazing patters can emerge.
Controls:
L: Swap Menu/Game board.
On the game board you create life by touching.
On the menu you can modify settings in real time.
X/Y: Zoom in/out. Implemented mode 5 this time (it was easy) rather than writing my own zoom code. Will not allow for as many effects though.
Left/Right/Up/Down: Translate the screen position if zoomed.
Start: reload wifc2.nds.
Select: Take ScreenShot.
R: Clear Petri dish.
A/B: Increase/Decrease Delay. Useful for changing colors during life cycles.
And on the touchscreen menu you can change the colors of the cells, the colors they leave when they die, the games rule set (Birth Starve Crowd conditions) as well as the input Mirror Mode. These modes allow different symmetrical inputs. Mode 4 is basic one touch point, which isn’t as impressive in some cases.
Notes: Touchscreen while zoomed/scrolled is not working properly, if someone has advice on coordinates for a zoomed and scrolled view, let me know.

Gaming retailers have a long history of inadvertently tipping people off to publishers' plans, and while information from retailers isn't official confirmation of anything (and shouldn't be treated as such), it can give a good "heads up" about what's going down in the gaming world.
An EB Games employee today told GameSpot that the company had sent out promotional materials that strongly suggest Nintendo is planning a GameCube price drop next month. The materials, which were sent for use in the company's next marketing period (May 3 to May 23), include GameCube posters with GameCube-branded stickers that read "New Low Price," according to the employee. A specific price was not listed for the machine, which currently retails for $99.99 new, but it featured a blank number template which employees could fill in should a drop be announced.
Accompanying the materials was a note explaining that the signage was sent so stores would be prepared if a drop was announced. While the note didn't specifically say the company knew an announcement about the price was imminent, the employee told GameSpot that similar materials were sent out in advance of the recent PlayStation 2 price drop from $149 to $129.
Turning to retailer Web sites, there are a few changes worth mentioning. Original Guitar Hero groupies concerned about the prospect of having to shell out $90 for the sequel bundled with another guitar can breathe a little easier, as GameStop has added a listing that will let gamers pre-order the sequel and extra guitars separately. The site is currently asking $49.99 for Guitar Hero II on its own, and $39.99 for a future shipment of individual guitars.
Meanwhile, God Hand has been dated by GameStop. Previously, the only indication that Capcom's PS2 action title was headed to the US was its appearance on the publisher's lineup of games to be shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Now GameStop is soliciting pre-orders for the next title from Okami developer Clover Studios, with an October 10 shipping date and the following product description, which sheds new light on God Hand's plot:
The game follows a kind, aimless traveler named Jean who, after attempting to save a girl from some sort of danger, gets his right arm chopped off by a mercenary. Somehow, he comes into posession [sic] of the God Hand, the legendary gold-glowing hand of a great savior from olden times. Now, Jean has the power to save the world, but also has the scum of the land after him. The game is filled with wild combat as Jean uses his newly-earned skills in fighting and leaping, and the power of the glowing God Hand can charge up and give him new skills. The game also includes lots of comical gags for an over-the-top experience of violence and hilarity.

Over at DS-X2, they unleashed the boxart and included a list of possible pets in what is to be released as Nintendogs: Dalmation and Friends from Nintendo of Europe. The boxart, which you won't notice over to your right, shows every fireman's best friend staring off in the distance, wishing you would take him/her for a walk and show him/her some attention. What is wrong with you? Why don't you pet him/her? Are you some kind of monster?!
The roster of possible pups in the game reads:
Dalmation
Boxer
German Shephard
Golden Retriever
Yorkshire Terrier
Beagle

Nintendo just announced that the name of their newest box, code named “Revolution”, will be Wii. And we think it is brilliant. Via CNN (just ‘cause they need the link):
Nintendo officially ditched its long-used codename for its next generation machine Thursday, revealing Wii as the final name for the product. Pronounced like “we” (or “whee,” I suppose), the name is meant to emphasize that “this console is for everyone,” Nintendo said in a flash video which introduced the name change…
…The unusual spelling is meant to symbolize both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play…
…The core gaming community is already making its opinion known – and it’s a resounding thumbs down.
“Here, I’ll do it: Worst console name ever,” wrote Chris Remo, an editor at Shacknews.com, whose sentiments were immediately echoed by dozens of users. Forum members on Gamespot.com, IGN.com and other gaming sites expressed similar thoughts…
…By letting the gaming community vent now about the name, they will be less distracted as launch titles for the system are announced and initial reports about what it’s like to play the games begin to come in.
Wii has got to be the most savvy name announcement we have seen in many years, and it could be the most viral name announcement since Yahoo! Sure, the buzz is a all negative (News, Blogosphere) but that’s part of the beauty.
Because we don’t believe that Wii is the real name. We think Nintendo is setting you all up to be Punk’d at E3, generating a massive amount of positive buzz when the scam and the real new name are announced.
Crazy? Here is the first clue, “By letting the gaming community vent now about the name, they will be less distracted as launch titles for the system are announced and initial reports about what it’s like to play the games begin to come in.” Allowing your audience time to vent is not SOP in a name announcement, and also telegraphs that Nintendo knows what a stinker this name would be. Second, it’s not possible to engineer a worse name for this product.
Third, and this is a big one, there are no trademarks registered by Nintendo nor by any dummy corp in the U.S or over there for Wii. This is unprecedented for Nintendo and it is not possible that this is an oversight. If Wii were the name, they would have registered it. In fact, no new trademarks have been registered by Nintendo at all. This leads us to conclude that Nintendo has in fact registered the real name under a dummy corp, which is SOP when trying to keep a name a secret prior to launch.
Given that their video game audience is the same demographic as Punk’d, this whole campaign is perversely elegant. Except of course for failing to make the illusion complete by registering a TM for Wii.
Keep in mind, this whole PR campaign cost zero dollars. And yet, some “naming experts” just don’t seem to get it.

Source: A news story on the Web site of wire service United Press International, which has since been updated.
The official story: See below.
What we heard: As far as gaming Web sites were concerned, there was only one story to report on yesterday: Nintendo's controversial renaming of the Revolution, which now goes by the name "Wii." The fan furor over the move has yet to die down completely, as GameSpot's story on the switch has received 3188 mostly angry user comments and counting.
But while most outlets were reporting only on the name change, the news wire service United Press International put up a story saying that Nintendo confirmed a fourth quarter release date for the Wii in addition to the name change. So we asked Nintendo PR how we missed the announcement. A succinct reply came back, with the Nintendo rep saying only, "To my knowledge we didn't announce any sort of launch date yesterday for Wii."
Lo and behold, UPI has since changed its story to say that Nintendo only announced a 2006 release date for the Wii. Meanwhile, some unfortunate affiliates who picked up the original story apparently didn't get the memo. However, gamers can still expect the console to arrive in time for the holidays. At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told consumers to expect the console by Thanksgiving. Unless he says something different at Nintendo's pre-E3 event on Tuesday, May 9, expect that launch window to stick.
Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that the Wii's ship date was announced, not bogus that the Wii will arrive in Q4.

Source: A postcard sent out to press to promote Konami's E3 press conference.
The official story: "No comment on the postcard."--Konami rep.
What we heard: Late last year, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima sat down with Famitsu, Japan's leading game magazine. In it, he revealed he was developing an upcoming title for the Nintendo Revolution. He explained to the publication that he wanted the game to be drastically different from the stealth-action series which made him famous. He also hinted that he might be targeting female gamers specifically.
While it caused a bit of a stir at the time, Kojima's Revolution revelation faded into the background, thanks to a drought of new information about the project. But that will likely end in two weeks, if the hints on the Konami E3 press conference invitation are to be taken at face value.
The invitation, which arrived in GameSpot editors' mailboxes today, had a grey front with the Kojima Productions logo in the background. In the foreground are six words in all-caps: "RETURN," "REARM," "REGALE," "REBIRTH," "RESPECT," "REFINE." In each of the words, the letters "RE" were conspicuously offset in red. On the back, and even less subtle hint was dropped. "The REVOLT begins, Tuesday, May 9. It's the battle for E3," reads the card before giving the details of the event.
Plainly, Konami is hinting that there will be a major announcement at its press conference that has to do with something starting in "Re." But while the Revolution references may have been fine last week, this week everything changed when Nintendo revealed its console's new name, "Wii." Why would Konami send out a teaser postcard for a Revolution game when they knew a name change was in the works?
The answer is on the postcard, which bears a postmark of Wednesday, April 26--one day before the Wii name was revealed. Given that it was sent before the Wii announcement--which many diehard Nintendans are now claiming is a massive hoax--Konami must've stuck with the Revolution name just to not blow Nintendo's cover. That and it would be wii-ly hard to make a cool-sounding teaser with the console's new moniker. (Painful, we know.)
Bogus or not bogus?: Looking not bogus--expect official confirmation at E3.

After beating the radioactive, magical and often otherworldly crap out of each other in Capcom's excellent Marvel Vs. series of 2D fighting games, it seems that the comic giant's major superheroes now find themselves forced to cooperate for the good of the entire Marvel universe. Activision has officially announced Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for PC, current and forthcoming consoles, as well as handheld platforms. I don't know about you, but my hands are usually the first choice when it comes to holding the DS.
Developed by Raven Software, the game will be an action-RPG, no doubt similar to the X-Men Legends series (but hopefully a whole lot better). Various levels of customization are touted, but the one that has us most pleased is the ability to create a custom vehicle for your team. When I'm done with that, the Fantasticar won't know what hit it.
No word yet on how the DS version will differ from the rest--would cooperative Wi-Fi play be too much to ask for?
