While the voice recognition software for the Talkman is a little shaky, it’s a useful phrase book when traveling around Asia. Nintendo’s not a company to miss an oppertunity so they created their own series of portable language tools, the Tabi no Yubisashi Kaiwachou (loosely translated as Conversation Notebook for Travelers) series. Volumes 1-5 are scheduled for a release later this month. The first languages that Nintendo picked up for this are: Thai, Chinese, Korean, American English and German. Each series also has its own animal mascot Thai (elephant), Chinese (panda), Korean (tiger), English (bear) and German (eagle).

Flubba posted a little news update about his MSX emu for the GBA (Works on DS/Gamecube Gameboy Player):
I said something about SCC not being possible to a few people, well, it wasn't that hard to implement,
kind of like a cheap version of the PC-Engine sound chip.
I still need to tweak it a little bit I think, and maybe optimise it some more, handle both soundchips and so on.
To the people from msx.org, I read the forum and listen to what you have to say even though don't write there =).

Following yesterday's official Red Steel announcement, Ubisoft has launched the game's (teaser) website. Visitors are given a choice: the gun or the sword? After a selection is made, the site will launch into a dumbed-down motion-controlled mini-game: move the weapon with the mouse and click on it to shoot or slash at predetermined points on the screen — we trust that the actual game will be a tad bit more sophisticated. After three clicks, the Red Steel logo will appear and a side note prompts for registration in order to receive "exclusive information" (read: spam alert).

Infendo's Rollin had a thing or two to say about New Super Mario Bros. in this morning's post: "It's not a new game, and moreover it's not a DS game. Judging by the info and screens we have up to this point, this looks like an ankle-deep, shallow relic of Mario's past..." Ouch!
Before Rollin is tossed to the wolves, let's consider this: maybe he's right. Okay, rephrase that: maybe he's on to something. Why are gamers so excited about New Mario? What does a 20-year-old concept bring to the table? Is it relevant to the DS? Worthy of a full-priced release? What if instead, it was an unlockable mini-game featured in a Revolution Mario title? Or better, an inexpensive download via Nintendo's Virtual Console service?
The original Super Mario Bros. is a game I cherish, but often times I feel — as Rollin seems to imply — that Nintendo profits off of my nostalgia. Is that a bad thing? From a business standpoint, of course not. But if we're going to criticize other companies for churning out sequels and rehashes, we'd best lift the 'untouchable' veil from in front of Nintendo's name and let them have it too. New Super Mario Bros. will be fun, but let's not kid ourselves, it's not gonna shake up the state of gaming in 2006.

From our experiences using our Nintendo DS on the subway, we know there are times when it’s okay for strangers to see what you’re playing, like when you are about to thrash other people in the car at Mario Kart DS, and when you’d rather they couldn’t peek, like when you’re excising tumors from someone’s pancreas in Trauma Center.
We’ve seen privacy filter cellphone stickers from Japan before that stop nosy people from seeing at what you’ve got on your screen, and would like to get our hands on the Overlay Secret for Nintendo DS—hopefully before the next Pokemon game hits the US.

The DS lite has had it’s first official advertisement in France. The ad carried a tagline of (loosely translated) “You will soon be able to open it”. There was no official date in the advertisement, but it is good to see Nintendo finally start to push the DS lite in other territories. Your guess is as good as mine as to when we will see any DS lite ads, or hear any talk from Nintendo on the subject. We will keep our eyes peeled and hope for some info before E3.

Genki will release a war strategy game called Daisenryaku DS: Great Strategy in Japan on May 25. Little is known about the game except that it will use the touch screen to give commands and is supposed to use a simplified system of menus to help attract new gamers to the series.
The game looks incredibly similar to Advance Wars: Dual Strike which was released last year. The most noticeable difference is that the battles take place in 3D. If this game turns out anything like Advance Wars then it will be the next must-have game for every strategy fan.

Miles Prower 707 sends word that Meteos for the DS may be discontinued according to Amazon.com.
If you check out the product details on the game it reads that it has been "discontinued by manufacturer." Whether the Meteos game production is following suit of Lumines for the PSP (which has also seemingly been stopped) has yet to be actually confirmed, but I'll keep you updated.
Even if they are going to(or have) stop production I doubt that we'll see high values for the game like Phoenix Wright.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo DS mental exercise game Brain Age have soared on buzz of daily training that can keep brains in shape.
On Monday's Amazon.com Computer and Video Games sales charts, Brain Age leaped from #135 to the #5 position.
The game will be released to retail next week in the U.S.
The Brain Age series has sold 3.3M units to date in Japan in a craze that has consumers who normally shy from video games participating in computation, memorization, and identification tests.
Brain Age is inspired by a book written by Professor Ryuta Kawashima. Kawashima explains to players that like a human body, the brain can exercise through quick, simple exercises in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
Nintendo will release the follow-up to Brain Age, called Big Brain Academy next month.

Two new titles for Nintendo DS™ will extend Nintendo's mental mastery and guarantee Nintendo DS owners will have plenty of ways to keep their brains busy this summer.
Big Brain Academy™ is the second game in the record-breaking brain-training series taking Japan by storm. In Big Brain Academy, players perform a series of fun and mentally stimulating mini-games. The game then assigns them a letter grade and cites a famous person or profession with a similar set of skills. This graphically appealing title measures skills like thinking, memorization, analysis, identification and computation. Big Brain Academy, Rated E for Everyone, launches May 29.
A month later, sudoku fans will find themselves in number-crunching heaven as Sudoku Gridmaster makes its way to Nintendo DS on June 26. The system's touch screen makes choosing or writing numbers easy. Players will find more than 400 puzzles, all of which were selected by the original creators of sudoku.
Sudoku is the most popular puzzle game in the world right now, and Sudoku Gridmaster puts hundreds of puzzles in portable form, just in time for the summer travel season. To satisfy novices and sudoku experts alike, the puzzles come in four difficulty settings: practice, easy, normal and hard. Sudoku Gridmaster is Rated E for Everyone.

Davr has updated his Draw App for the DS, heres the latest news:
Hah! Turned out there were two problems with libpng on the nds:1. png_zalloc(), which allocates memory for zlib, was refusing to allocate any memory, thinking it was too much. I just removed that check and it works. Boy this was annoying to track down.
2. I forgot a FAT_fclose() in there, so the file was 0 bytes (since it never got flushed to disk)
— now no more confusion over .bin or .rle, since it directly spits out png’s!

Being a Nintendo fan is hard work these days, especially with the 83 million blogs out there cross-pollinating each other with baseless rumour after baseless rumour, duping many readers into believing they comprise anything more than a lonely young man still living in his mum's spare room.
The latest rumour to have baselessly fledged from the Nest of Evil foretells a major announcement from Nintendo on April 20th of this year, next Thursday to be exact. Already dubbed ThursdayTon in some circles, the bloggers would have you believe that all of us within the Nintendo circle of trust have NDAs set to expire next week, soaking the world in a veritable shower of Revolution information which, according to which rubbish fansite you read, a Revolution projector, a virtual reality helmet or a touch-sensitive Revmote add-on.
It's not true. None of it. There is no announcement scheduled for next Thursday, at least as far as the press has been briefed. There might be an announcement of course. In fact, next Thursday has 60.83:1 chance of seeing a Nintendo announcement of some magnitude, working on the assumption that it will make six major announcements per year.
So what were we talking about? It's all back on!
Nintendo has hinted that the Revolution has more functionality than has already been announced, though we very much doubt such secrets will be splashed less than three weeks before E3.
