We weren't serious! When we joked late last year about an impending flood of lame third-party attachments targeting the Wii, we didn't intend to give ideas to manufacturers. Thankfully they didn't slap "collector's edition" on it, or else they'd have really driven the sales of millions of plastic attachment-thingy units. Oh well, at least we scraped the bottom of the peripheral barrel pretty early on in the Wii's life, as this Asid Tech Sword and Shield kit makes you go from hero to zero in exactly the amount of time it takes to attach it. They also don't show how the shield attaches to the nunchuk. Oh, and the best part ... these three slabs of plastic will only set you back $30.
On the glass-is-half-full side of things, one could look at this as a chance to be artistic. Get some paint, make it pretty. Sadly there are no Hylian symbols on this shield, so cheers to Frys.com marketing for calling it a "Zelda Sword and Shield," without anything really Zelda about it. That's quite deceptive. They should probably be expecting a call from Nintendo legal within the hour.

Alfredo Chavez, Gameplay / Art producer for the upcoming Wii rhythm title Boogie, has confirmed that the game will come with a USB microphone.
"The Wii version comes bundled with a microphone, it's a USB microphone and it's probably going to be the first mic for the Wii," he said in a video interview with IGN. Does this mean we will have to sit in a close proximity of the Wii or will there simply be a wireless dongle that attaches to the back? We're betting on the latter, as being connected to a console while jumping around like a buffoon is a surefire way to destroy your system.
Another interesting interpretation of Chavez's quote, particularly "the Wii version," hints that developer Electronic Arts is readying the title for other platforms, as well. Of course, we're not surprised that Boogie is expanding to other consoles (this is an EA franchise, after all), but there have been no official multiplatform plans announced.

Hints of a game destined to die on Dreamcast might be making a crazy monkey-dancing, snake-blooded, voodoo revival on the Wii. Milestone has not announced any titles for the Wii, yet they have been listed as a third-party developer since the very beginning, which begs the question, "Where's my game and when can I have it?".
Ryan over at Arcade Renaissance has a pretty good theory on the first part of the question, but has some trouble answering the second. He believes this half girl, half angel (and all Victoria Secret by the looks of it) shooter will be the first game that the developer will bring over to the Wii due to its previous succcess on the Dreamcast. Also, there was also recent posting on the SHMUPS forum in which a user states that they were:
"...privy to details that confirms that Karous is in development for the Wii.
This combined with the fact that O3 Entertainment (a company who is responsible for the still delayed Radio Allergy for the Gamecube, though it is Wii Compatible) mentioned cryptically in their forum that there would be something to look forward to after Radio Allergy's release and left a link to Milestone's Karous webpage.
Personally, I'm seeing a lot of eggs and no baskets to put them into. But it's a just a rumor, and news about more games coming out is better than news of no games coming out.

Here I've been trying hard every week to try and link the new Virtual Console titles into some sort of cohesive theme, and then this week Nintendo goes and brings their own theme with them. Considering how much later than normal the release hit today, they might just want to leave that to us in the future. Anyway, this week's theme is kidnapping, a surefire gaming storyline if ever there was one, until you start imagining what the victims are going through. Then it just gets...disturbing.
Final Fight (SNES - 800 Points): The game that eerily predicted Jesse Ventura's political career is back and the same as ever! Join Mike (my name) and Cody (my dog's name) as they beat the living hell out of anyone between them and their daughter/girlfriend respectively. Let's hope they can keep that straight.
Mighty Bomb Jack (NES - 500 points): The sequel to just plain Bomb Jack, this game finds Jack battling the demon Belzebut over 16 levels of an ancient pyramid in order to rescue the Pamera family, which for some reason makes me crave a turkey bacon on asiago cheese focaccia.
Ordyne (TGFX16 - 600 Points) Even side-scrolling shooter pilots' girlfriends get kidnapped! This shooter in the Gradius vein sees Dr. Tomari and Felix taking on the evil Kubuta, who wrongly believes that really pissing off the hero of the story by stealing his fiancée is a sound strategic plan. Idiot.
Maybe not the best week for the VC, unless you're a stalker looking to take things to the next level and looking for pointers.

We knew it was only a matter of time before we had 16GB of SDHC goodness staring us down across the internets, just daring us to make the first move, but we just didn't know it would be so soon -- and so expensive. Apparently MICRODIA is prepping a range of SDHC memory to be launched in Japan this month, including a pair of what sound to be the world's first 16GB cards. They're all aimed pretty squarely at performance, with 4 and 8GB Class 4 52x cards; 4, 8 and 16GB Class 4 82x cards; and 4, 8 and 16GB Class 6 160x cards. The latter will cost you dearly, with the Class 6 16GB SDHC pictured above selling for a whoppin' $3,500. When you put it that way, our collection of 4GB SDHC is treating us just fine, thankyouverymuch.

Primetime00 has released a new version of Aim for the DS:
Alright, DSAIM 0.03e is now out. Here are the following changes that I can remember:
* Recompiled with newest devARMkit and dswifi 0.3d
* Compiled for DLDI
* Hitting up or x simulates the shift key
* Hitting left or y simulates backspace
* Hitting right or a simulates the return key.
* Custom network settings are now saved in /DSAIM/DSAIM.CFG
* Accounts are saved in /DSAIM/DSAIM.ACC
* Saved accounts can be scrolled through using the up/down or x/b keys
* Password fields are now hidden.
Make sure you use the correct DLDI file so that writing to the flash device works.
Hopefully it fixes some of the problems you all have been having.
Enjoy

Bob Fossil has updated his Word Game for the DS:
Heres the release info:
It has some debugging code in it to try and get to the bottom of the freezing during thinking bug. On the top screen you should see some numbers progress across the bottom line, e.g. '01234'. If it freezes, make a note of this number and let me know. I've made some changes to fix some possible freezes, so we'll see I guess. I've made a lot of internal changes to the code so I may have inadvertently broken some other things too.
Other things fixed in this version:
In Time Attack A mode, if you unlock the level you are now advanced to the next stage when your time runs out.
In Time Attack modes, you now get some time back depending on the length of word you submitted.
You can now tap a checked out letter to remove it from the current word.
Low time warning sounds weren't being played after you ran out of time and started a new game.
As regards the word list. Well it's not perfect but it does the job. I'm happy to add words that are missing but I don't fancy compiling a new word list. If someone wants to do this then fine. Make sure each word is on separate line, is in lower case and send it to me.

This question mark block has extended its form into the fabled third dimension! This mysterious realm of depth is unexplored by either 8-bit explorers or Perler bead artists. This bold scientific discovery promises to usher a new age for Super Mario Bros. crafts!
Shown above, an artifact from the third dimension, looking very much like one of our own question mark blocks, but somehow composed of many two-dimensional blocks working in tandem to form a strange array of squares. These squares exist simultaneously in the normal two dimensions and in the newly-discovered third! This is a hypersquare.

At first glance, we thought the Portable GameCube Advance was the product of console miniaturizer Benjamin Heckendorn, who has shrunk some of our favorites into nearly portable packages.
But the Portable GameCube Advance is really the work of a random email tipster...surely not just a Photoshop rendition...but an entirely ready-to-go product complete with external OLED display and MP3 playback that will be in stores any day now.
In the case that this surely real product isn't real, look for Chinese OEM rip offs at a website near you.

In the Tsutaya store in Shibuya, the worst used Nintendo DS system in Japan -- nay, the world -- was on display in a locked glass showcase. The little sign on it reads:
* No box
* No instruction manual
* No stylus
* No strap
* No AC adapter
* Scratches on case
* Scratches on screen
Which is an understatement. The screen was positively filled with light surface abrasions that spiraled out from the center. ("Oh, so it's been Ouendanned," said a friend when I told him this.) And there are several more deeper scratches in the screen. And that's not even mentioning the clearly visible thick brown dirt and waste products caked inside the hinges. And how much did this complete piece of junk cost?
Ten thousand yen. Literally almost $100.
This is the situation Japan is in right now, where the DS is so popular and desired that your broken garbage can fetch stupidly huge amounts of money.

Nintendo fansite Codename Revolution, citing contacts in game distribution, is claiming that LucasArts’ LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II are headed to the Wii this fall as part of a single compilation called LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. The site alleges that the game will feature Wii-specific controls and will be released during the upcoming holiday season.
The article also claims that LucasArts’ Thrillville is headed to the Wii this October. Thrillville is a theme-park simulator released late last year on the PS2, Xbox, and PSP.
None of this has been confirmed by LucasArts, so it remains the domain of rumor for now. We’ll keep you updated.

With Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition due out in Europe this June and Umbrella Chronicles set for later in 2007, details are still scarce regarding the latter title. However, a German magazine called Manic has uncovered some details.
First of all, whilst we have already seen the mansion scene from the game, it has been confirmed that the police station from Resident Evil II and the train from Resident Evil Zero will be included as levels. In fact, half of the game actually takes place in locations taken straight from other games in the series, leaving the rest to take you through Umbrella Corp's strongholds and enemy lairs.
In terms of characters on offer, Carlos Oliviera is now in the line-up, with Wesker also a definite, yet whether or not his role will merely be that of an NPC or if he will be playable was neither confirmed nor denied.
Using the Nunchuk controller and tilting it will allow movement of the camera to uncover hideen objects and power-ups, plus there will be familiar weapons on offer, such as the Rocket and Grenade Launcher.
Finally, although Resident Evil Zero, I, II and III will all be represented, levels will not be taken from Code Veronica.

Beatwho has updated his Warlords Game for DS:
Hi,
Yeah, the map editor is still in beta, you can edit castle details etc... which is what i used to get the data from the original warlords. Its more to just import a tileset and then import the map to see what the tileset looks like, although i am updating it slowly so you will be able to edit tiles etc...
I will add save game support, Ive added a lot of new things since even the first post and will continue to update the binaries on that website as I go. If you grab the new rom you'll see ive changed the font, added details to the minimap and added text to the production queues etc... It also now has the proper castle data which it didnt have originally.
It also has a title screen and proper menu front end now as I get graphics from Lobo.
Once I finish all the main game functions (its mostly playable i just have to make it more user friendly, fighting animations, add end conditions and save game support) I'll also be adding AI (which ive kinda started on. The computer is really stupid atm, it basically just moves towards castles and attacks units it sees. Needs a lot of tuning.
