Nintendo's recent earnings report was full of great news for investors as the company's fortunes soared to record highs. But what does it all mean for gamers?
Company president Satoru Iwata provide some hints in a Q&A session following the company's press briefing last week. Today, Nintendo provided an English transcript of that session.
Iwata spoke at length on a number of issues, but one in particular caught our eye: the hot topic of the Wii's limited flash memory. Said Iwata, "Statistically speaking, it is true that there are a small number of customers who feel that the flash memory is too small, while many others find that they have plenty of memory. However, because this small number of people are none other than the most avid players, we know we have to review the best possible solution to eliminate their inconvenience."
So keep on complaining, Nintendo fanatics, and you may one day have full access to your virtual Wii games collection without having to delete stuff.
Iwata also gave some vague indication of the current performance of the WiiWare and Virtual Console download services. Total sales for the fiscal year for the two services combined came to 7.8 billion yen.
There's actually a fundamental difference between the WiiWare and Virtual Console businesses, Iwata explained. For the Virtual Console, Nintendo manages the full process of preparing software, even from 3rd parties. As it faces the business risks from distributing games on the service, it also takes a larger share of the profits. For WiiWare, 3rd parties face all the business risks themselves and handle marketing, and thus they get a larger portion of the profits.
For more of Iwata's comments, be sure and check out Nintendo's English transcript of the Iwata Q&A session for yourself.

Majesco has unveiled a new puzzle game for DS called Rollin' Rascals.
It involves rolling cute animals, including pandas and puppies and pigs, into each other so you can clear each stage. The ultimate aim is to find all the animals of the Kolo Kingdom.
Attack, Challenge and Battle modes should spice things up, or you can use your saved in-game money to buy a house and furniture for your animals. Because that is what they would want. Yes they can talk; they sit on the top screen while you're concentrating and do just that.
There is head-to-head support for you and your friends, too, if you're up to it.
Rollin' Rascals is due out in the US in July, but if you just can't wait that long, we would strongly suggest picking up the excellent and entirely dissimilar Zoo Keeper.

Casual games developer The Game Factory has revealed that it will be publishing a game based on the Rubik's Cube later on this year.
Rubik's World is being developed by Dutch developer Two Tribes (Worms Open Warfare 2) for both DS and Wii. According to the publisher, it's for anyone who's ever wondered what the inside of a Rubik's Cube looks like.
We have, but we always thought it was a few bits of plastic. Apparently not. Using TARDIS-like technology, the cubes contain entire 3D worlds, each made up of unique and original puzzles. Who would have thought it?
Players will be able to construct 3D shapes and objects, navigate through mazes and even create their own soundtracks.
The DS version will be supported with an online community that players can wirelessly connect to, and the Wii version can support up to four people and will feature an online message board. Presumably because casual gamers have never heard of GamesFAQs.
Expect Rubik's World sometime this autumn.

Nintendo has dated the Namco Bandai balance board game for Wii called Family Ski.
It's due out here on 13th June, although there is no word on what it will cost or what the deal will be if you don't already own a balance board. At present the board is only available with Wii Fit for GBP 69.99.
Family Ski takes advantage of Nintendo's three-pronged-entertainment-fork - the Wiimote, nunchuk and Wii Board - to deliver what it calls "a thrilling true-life ski experience".
This has you crouching and leaning to turn while pushing-off and accelerating using the motion-sensing hand controls.
There's a Ski School to help you get to grips with it all, and you will soon find yourself progressing from Rabbit Road up to courses like the terrifying Lion Peak. There are competitions to enter when you get really good.
You also get the option of using a pre-set skier or importing your Mii and dressing it up in ski wear.
Then, once you get bored of sliding around, you can do some common piste activities like finding lost children and delivering food to people, like some kind of two-legged St. Bernard. Smashing idea. There's a Ski Quiz, too.
You can take photos of yourself on the slopes and then post the pictures on the Wii Message Board, too.

Publisher SEGA and developer Chunsoft are teaming up to bring the first, but surely not the last, ever port of a game from the PlayStation 3 console to Nintendo’s far-weaker Wii system. The game? A reworking of Imabikisou from last year, which shocked many by charting quite high in the Media Create Top 10 upon launch, but plummeted out of sight very quickly indeed soon afterwards.
Imabikisou is a game made up of mainly static photographs, as well as a certain amount of live-action video clips that help to move the story along. For the Wii version, the game is being slightly renamed to include a new sub-title, with the full name now being “Imabikisou - Solution Compilation”. The chilling horror story caused quite a stir on PlayStation 3 in Japan at a time when games on the system just were not selling anywhere near as well as expected, with even big hitters such as Virtua Fighter 5 failing to make a massive impact. However, being part of the ’sound novel’ genre, which is more than slightly niche, to say the least, interest in the game was always going to be limited, and given how no such games make it over to the West, SEGA has yet to translate the title for North America or any of the PAL territories.
Now, though, Chunsoft is giving the game another shot, again with a helping hand from SEGA, the company that published Chunsoft’s Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren The Wanderer on the Nintendo DS. Exclusive to the Wii version is a brand new episode, as well as a revised control system to make use of the Wii Remote, plus the game will now make use of the Wii Remote’s in-built speaker to add to the atmosphere. A video of the PlayStation 3 version can be seen above, whilst the speaker usage can be sampled by heading over to the game’s official website.

It is looking more and more like Nintendo may have no option to make the Wii cheaper at retail, despite what Satoru Iwata says. Here’s why:
It has been at the same price for a long time now, during which it has become a lot cheaper to make. Especially with the volumes they are churning out. And they were making a profit in every unit from the beginning. So there is plenty of room to drop the price.
They are ramping up production to 25 million units a year. Initially these will just meet the backlog of demand but once that is done they will need to use the price mechanism to shift them.
Their release schedule is looking very weak. Right now we have Super Smash Bros, Brawl, Mario Kart and Wii Fit. Then nothing mega and lots of shovelware. Compare that with the PS3 and 360.
GTA IV. This is going to transform the balance in the market strongly in favour of the HD consoles. The Wii is going to look increasingly last gen.
To make the most money out of the Wii back catalogue of games Nintendo need as many platforms out there as possible. At a lower price they will sell more Wiis and milk it on the software.
The Microsoft Xbox 360 price cuts now make the Wii look very expensive. You get a whole lot more for your money with the 360.
So when is this going to happen. Q3 08 is my best bet. But it could be a little later. It depends on what the market is telling them.

With the chart-topping Wii Fit already proving a sell-out across the UK, Nintendo UK has moved to reassure consumers, telling GamesIndustry.biz that "stock is coming in all the time on a weekly basis."
Fears over the availability of the anticipated peripheral-based product were sparked a fortnight ago , when it emerged that major retailers has stopped taking pre-orders - having already exhausted the first wave of units.
The update comes as Wii Fit entered the UK charts at number one this week, becoming the sixth fastest-selling UK debut ever. According to sales monitor Chart-Track, the GBP 69.99 title "was bought by roughly one in 10 Wii console owners over its first two days of release."

Wii Fit was the best-selling software title in the UK last week, with 10 percent of Wii owners snapping it up since Friday.
Whilst that sort of attachment rate wouldn't be something Microsoft would boast of if the game in question was one of their triple-AAA titles, everyone and their grandparents has bought a Wii in the UK.
Nintendo can expect to receive more than $32 million from the sales, according to NewsFactor. It's now the sixth-fasting selling UK game of all time, though we imagine that will drop to seventh by next week.
In what might be more reflective of our social circle though, we don't know anyone who's actually bought it. Have you handed over cash for Wii Fit? Any funny stories to tell us? Hit the comments below.

Nintendo has confirmed that fantasy RPG Etrian Odyssey is coming to the DS this summer.
According to the press release it combines "classic dungeon exploring" with "old school 'pen and paper' style map drawing". The game is set in Etria, a small village at the edge of the fabled Yggdrasil Labyrinth. You start out by creating a guild up to 30 characters of your own creation can join. However, only five can enter the labyrinth at the same time.
The point, obviously, is you must pick characters with appropriate skills depending on what kind of monsters you're about to face. There are nine different classes and you can earn skill points to buy special abilities. Characters will include Landsknecht, a warrior, dark magician the Alchemist and the Survivalist, an archer.
The DS stylus is used for drawing maps, marking important places and adding notes. Fighting is turned-base and enemies appear in 2D. There are bosses known, brilliantly, as F.O.E.s, and beating them brings great rewards.
As you'd expect there's levelling up to be getting on with, new techniques to learn and equipment to buy and sell. The village of Etria will serve all your needs with its inn, apothecary, general store, pub, guildhall, town hall and Fitness First. Possibly not the last one.
Etrian Odyssey is out on June 6th.

Majesco has released thirty-eight screenshots for Wonderworld Amusement Park, a new Wii game scheduled for release this summer.
More a collection of theme park mini-games rather than a clone of Theme Park, Wonderworld Amusement Park includes thirty different mini-games that mirror classic carnival rides.
Going through the screenshots, we can identify a shooting gallery, coconut stall and an eating contest. We've obviously been visiting the wrong carnival rides if these are representative of some of the stuff you can find at them.
Wonderworld will include four-player support that Majesco hopes will allow the whole family to play together. Bless.

Capcom has announced that Okami for Wii will be released on 13th June in Europe.
The Wii version of the PS2 game Kristan describes as a "nailed-down 10/10 classic", whatever that means, has been out in the US for a little while, although there appears to be critical disagreement about the Wii-specific additions.
Underneath the mechanics, Okami is a Zelda-flavoured action-adventure in which you guide the sun goddess Amaterasu, a white wolf, through gorgeous cel-shaded environments using a sort of gesture system, the Celestial Brush, to mend a broken world.
We played through some of the Wii version recently and formed a positive first impression, particularly enjoying its 480p widescreen graphics.
Look out for a full review imminently.

The Currys retail chain, consisting of Currys, PC World and Dixons brands, has revealed that it sold a copy of Wii Fit every four seconds across the release weekend, making it the chain's fastest-selling game ever.
The news comes alongside the announcement that the group is also planning to implement its own game classification scheme to try to better inform shoppers as to the suitability of its products for family entertainment.
PC and console titles will be tested by a selection of families, while some products will also be labelled as suitable for customers over the age of 60.
"The notion that videogames are played by teenagers tucked away in their bedrooms is past its sell-by date," said Amanda Clift, Currys' head of brand. "Videogaming is now a mainstream form of family entertainment and we've seen a huge surge in the number of non-core gamers purchasing consoles and games.
"This new scheme will allow us to rate a game based on the collective feedback of a large number of families so our customers can quickly and easily identify which games are going to provide the best form of family entertainment."
The move follows the release of the Byron Review last month, which recommended stronger measures to highlight and encourage recognition of videogames ratings.
The company also released a top ten chart of its best-selling 'family-friendly' titles, as follows:
1. Wii Fit (Wii)
2. Singstar (PS3)
3. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (PS3)
4. Buzz Hollywood (PS2)
5. Big Brain Academy (Wii)
6. Mario Kart (Wii)
7. Brain Training (DS)
8. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii)
9. Sun Crossword (DS)
10. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)

The Wii version of Sonic Unleashed is not being developed by Sonic Team, but instead by Sonic Rush developer Dimps, magazine Nintendo Power's saying.
According to NeoGaf forum posters, the article said that Dimps' version of the game will use an entirely different engine to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, include different levels and gameplay elements, and heavily focus on 2D gameplay.
So whilst Wii owners should expect a game somewhat different to what was seen in the trailer earlier this year, there's every chance they'll get a fantastic Sonic game anyway.
In fact, dare we say it, they might get a better version. Compare Sonic Rush Adventure (Dimps) to Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 (Sonic Team) and you begin to wonder.

newly released today
The RPG is based on the “VS Gokuyou” chapter and the “Varia” chapter of the Kateikyoo manga series, but is told in a different perspective. Two new characters designed by the author of the manga series make their appearance in this game. These two new characters, Albeito and Rizona from the Evocadole family are intricately related to the existing characters from the VS Gokuyou and Varia chapters. They are bringing out the unseen side of the characters and are crucial to the game's storyline.
The battle system is easy to manage, the commands to input during the battle scenes are replaced by picture cards to be drag and dropped by the stylus, so even the beginners can learn it in no time.
