CEO Ray Muzyka and President Greg Zeschuk of Bioware, a company founded on narrative-centric RPGs, can't seem to decide if the Wii is a game (as opposed to, from what we gather, a toy). In an interview with GameDaily, Zeschuk said, "If gaming is defined by story, then generally Wii may not be," though he immediately expands on that, "The game [4 to 5 people together are] playing is actually very different than the rest of us. What they're doing as a company is like a different flavor."
Providing a counterpoint, Muzyaka noted that the Wii experience is "more toy-like" but also said, "there's also a narrative between the players outside the game and kind of fulfills the same things games do. Games are 'toys' in the sense that they're fun." Warren Spector had made a similar designation in an Escapist piece last year, categorizing games like Tetris and Madden akin as "retold" narratives.

Nearly a year after the innovative (albeit not-entirely-practical) Nintendo Fan Network went live at Safeco Field in Seattle, the powers that be have decided to nix those pesky access fees and give every DS-toting guest access gratis. That's right, folks who show up to catch a Mariners game can now check out other MLB scores, dig deep within player stats, order up grossly overpriced grub and even watch a terribly pixelated version of the game they're currently at without handing over one red cent. The nosebleed section never had so much potential.

Stray Bullet Games may be developing its upcoming MMOG for Wii, according to a recent job opening posted on the company's website.
In an advertisement for a senior programmer, Stray Bullet listed a skill set required from all applicants. Among the desired abilities was experience developing and shipping titles on Wii and/or GameCube platform. (Cheers GameSpot).
Previously, the company had only revealed that its unannounced MMO game was a mixture of science fiction and high fantasy.
"The new project will contain a fully-realized, ongoing online conflict that combines furious action with tactical and strategic game play," states Stray Bullet on its website.
"In the game to come, characters and guilds will engage in meaningful, exciting, and fun mass combat.
It all sounds very complex, which casts doubt on whether it could work on Wii - if it is indeed heading to Nintendo's console, which is yet to be confirmed.

A new version of Glide64 was released today. Info from the official website:
The Glide64 Team proudly presents you the new release of our project – 'Napalm'!
The project now consists of three parts. The main part – Glide64 graphics plugin – was changed a lot since the previous public release. It’s simply impossible to list all modifications. New version has tons of bugfixes and optimizations. Large number of special effects implemented. Lots of hacks removed, because they are not necessary anymore. Lots of previously unplayable games are playable now. Lots of games, which worked good before now work even better. Screen shots of most noticeable improvements were posted on our forum. Check also the updated screen shots gallery.
The second part – Glitch64 glide wrapper – was also changed much. Beside various fixes and optimizations it now supports anisotropic filtering and compressed textures.
The third part – GlideHQ – is a new module, which implements various texture enhancement techniques. It supports 6 texture filters, 7 methods of texture enhancement, 2 methods of texture compression. Beside that it fully supports Rice’s format of Hi-Resolution texture packs, with various optional techniques to save texture memory.
Project related documentation was improved too. We put all useful docs in one file 'Glide64 Info.chm'. Please read 'Readme' part of it, at least first two chapters, with general information and setup instructions.
Due to huge number of changes, new bugs might be introduced too. Despite the intensive beta testing during all period of development, some issues had been found and fixed right before the release. Thus, if you will find an issue, which is not mentioned in the 'Known Issues' part of the documentation, please report about it on our forum.
I gave this version codename 'Napalm'. 'Napalm' is also the codename for VSA-100 graphic chip, on which 3dfx Voodoo 4 and Voodoo 5 series were built. I still use Voodoo 5 in my home PC. This version of the plugin uses a lot of VSA-100 special abilities; therefore it was also named ‘Napalm’. BTW, there are few effects, which you can see only on VSA-100 based cards, or on N64 itself. Check 'Games Tips and Tricks' part of the documentation for details.
Download Glide64 'Napalm' from here and enjoy!

News from XDelusion
I've relocated (physically) and have therefore taken a break from the project.
I've recently found time to get back to my work, and re-invent it in the process to better conform to the limitations of the DS port.
I've also found a number of bugs that were a fault of the FreeDOOM iWAD, but have since been in touch with the author and other DOOM developers to hopefully quicken it's process so that I may in turn work out some of the bugs within my project.
Anyhow, enjoy the screen shots. I should have a video or two up before long.

news from Sonny Jim
I've put together a test kernel that has a lot of things stripped out and changed to hopefully squeeze out a few more kB for those people who are using DSLinux without some kind supported Slot-2 RAM. Please note that if you are using Slot-2 RAM you will not gain anything from using this kernel.
http://two.xthost.info/dslinux/dslin...tramfs.nds.zip
http://rapidshare.com/files/10927329...s.nds.zip.html
To get it smaller, I've replaced the romfs system with initramfs, which means root is fully rw with permissions now, including /dev. I've also used a stripped down busybox binary. I've taken sound out of this test kernel (mp3 playing with DSLinux sucks anyway), so web surfing only really. Links still won't load but at least retawq should play a bit nicer now.
To use, unzip and place "dslinux-initramfs.nds" to the root of a card that already has a copy of DSLinux installed (ie, has a /linux folder).
If you don't have a /linux folder (because you've never used DSLinux before or you've been using the NDS build) grab a copy of the DLDI build here.
On my Acekard, free shows this:
Kineox DLDI build:
Code:
MemTotal: 2056kB
MemFree: 804kB
Buffers: 132kB
dslinux-initramfs build
Code:
MemTotal: 2800kB
MemFree: 868kB
Buffers: 120kB
It's still quite prone to crashing, but at least it's a tiny bit better. To save even more memory you could try this:
Code:
/usr/bin/coreutils/mv /bin/busybox /media/usr/bin/busybox2
/usr/bin/coreutils/ln -s /media/usr/bin/busybox2 /bin/busybox
I plan to integrate initramfs into the DLDI builds anyway at some point as it makes working with /dev a lot easier.

Newly released today:
Days of Memories2 features the last three games in the Days of Memories series. Like its predecessor, the SNK characters show up, not as fighters, but as potential partners for romantic dates. The games included in this package are: Days of Memories – Kare to watashi no atsui natsu, Days of Memories – Koi wa good job and Days of Memories – Junbaku no tenshi tachi.
Days of Memories – Kare to watashi no atsui natsu is the only installment in the series for girls. It takes place during the heroine's second year of high school. The game is without a specific plot since the love story between the heroine and her crush is decided by the player.
Days of Memories – Koi wa good job takes on a more mature route as the characters are adults instead of teenagers and it features the conflicts between a person's career and their romance. The hero is a cameraman and his relationship with the ladies from SNK's series is awkward, yet sweet.
Days of Memories – Junbaku no tenshi tachi has the strongest plot twists in the series. It is filled with horror, thrilling and suspenseful elements. It takes place in a large hospital with secrets buried under its pure white exterior. Solve the mystery and discover the tragic pasts of the girls before the evil that lurks in the wings of the hospital overtakes them.
