News/release from thedopefish
This is a port of Tyrian for the Nintendo DS.
It's based on OpenTyrian, which is a ground-up rewrite in C using SDL, using the original DOS source as a reference. Many thanks to the OpenTyrian team for all their hard work.
The original game data (artwork, etc.) from the v2.1 registered version is now freely distributable, and are included with the main download package. These files will not change with future versions of OpenTyrianDS, so after you've downloaded them once, you can just grab the .NDS file for new releases and save some bandwidth.
Recent Changes:
Redesigned the bottom screen (based on a mockup by ExeterV) in single-player Arcade and Full Game modes.
Improved stability and performance.
Fixed a control mapping issue; you should now be able to properly map all buttons to controls.
Improved music playback (thanks to moi, Renard). Some of the .WAV files have been modified for this; please download the complete package instead of just the .NDS file. .

The latest release of the ARM toolchain is now available. There are a number of improvements
binutils updated to 2.18.50
gcc updated to 4.3.0
grit updated to 0.8
ndstool now uses default.arm7 from libnds directory
newlib multibyte code enabled with C-UTF8 locale
devkitPro Updater 1.4.6 now downloads and installs the default.arm7 file used for arm9 only projects separately from libnds. This will allow us to maintain a much improved default arm7 core which will later include built in wifi support.
As usual, windows users should run the updater which will update itself, make sure you add the new default arm7 when shown the update list.
For other platforms where automatic update is not available here are the links to the SF releases.
devkitARM release 22
default arm7 20080416
The donations page has been fixed, thanks to those who told me the donation buttons were broken. Your support is much appreciated.
A porting guide for 4.3.0 is available on the main gnu.org site, there are a number of new features and better conformance to C++ standards.

Sega has slipped us seventy screen shots of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, but has still managed to avoid spoiling anything about the game.
Amongst the batch is a series of shots taken from the same combat sequence. If you click on the next button really quickly, you can see how combat will play out, if the combat had a frame rate of about two frames per second.
It seems a lot like a Final Fantasy game. Except with rings appearing after an attack, which you have to tap with the stylus in order to get a bonus.
Also shown is a menu screen elaborating on an attack called Halestorm. This is all speculative, but considering it lists a specific team line-up below the description, we bet you need those characters in your party in order to pull it off.
Aside from that, it all looks like business-as-usual in the world of BioWare Sonic.

Newly released today:
features
Sturdy yet lightweight.
At last your Wiimote feels like a gun.
Comfortable, ergonomic design.
Allows access to all Wiimote and nunchuck controls.
description
Datel’s Wii Machine Gun is the ideal add-on for classic blasters such as Resident Evil 4 and Chicken Shoot. Playing titles such as these with an unadorned Wiimote just isn’t the same. It doesn’t feel like you have a gun in your hand, so when you’re taking out a horde of foetid zombies or bagging your supper down on the farm, some of the intense in-the-game atmosphere is lost. Fear not – with our sturdy, yet inexpensive add-on for the Wiimote, you can feel every inch like the fast-firing hero of the game!
Wii Machine Gun is simple to use. Just clip your Wiimote into the sturdy yet lightweight plastic casing, and attach the nunchuck unit to the rear section. The gun’s trigger activates the Wiimote’s ‘B’ button, and you can still reach all the topside controls should you need them, with the nunchuck’s buttons and joystick within easy reach too. It’s comfortable in the hand, feels solid without being bulky and is sturdy enough to take the knocks as you blast your way through the game. If lightgun-style gaming is your thing, you should never be without one!
(Wiimote and nunchuck not included)

via Games Industry
Mike Capps, president of Epic Games, has described the Wii as a "virus" in an interview with IGN, and given his explanation for Nintendo's success with the console.
During the interview, he admitted to buying one of Nintendo's consoles but said he rarely played with it, and complained that the few games he liked would be better on other consoles.
"I think it's kind of like a weird virus because I have not yet found a reason to play with my Wii," he said, reflecting on his decision to buy the console.
"It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends," he theorised. "So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on."
His comments come after the latest set of data from the NPD Group shows that Nintendo sold more than 720,000 Wii consoles in March, its highest monthly sales total ever outside of the holiday months of November and December.

Here a little update to jEnesisDS, my Genesis/MegaDrive emulator for the Nintendo DS.
Changes:
- Fixed bug in Z80 core, preventing some games from having sound (Wonderboy, etc.).
- Fixed bug in 68000 optimization, that could make some games hang (Bonanza Brothers, etc.).
- Changed sound handling and doubled sample rate for PCM sound, resulting in slightly better sound quality.
- HW renderer partially rewritten, many glitches should be gone, some are still there (and will probably not be easy to fix ever)
- Sprite rendering completely rewritten in ASM. Should be faster and fix most of the sprite issues.
- Implemented mid frame palette updates (water effects in Sonic games, Castlevania, etc.). Note, that this just works, if a game is constantly fast enough, so slowdowns can still cause colors to flicker.
- Many little optimizations in memory handling and the CPU cores. Should reduce slowdowns.
- Added option for sprite masking (Landstalker etc.). It is not 100% emulated, just faked to be enough for most games using it (disable it, if sprites are missing, that should be there).
- Added option to change between 3- and 6-Button pad (just works, if the option is applied BEFORE loading a game). When 6-Button pad is disabled, L+R can be used to move the visible screen area, X to center it.
- Added sound state to the savestates, so that the correct tracks should play now when a state is loaded. Savestates are still not 100% reliable and loading old states can potentially cause problems.
Oh, before i forget, the archive contains a preview version of a SMS/Gamegear emulator for the DS, that i have been working on a bit.
What it can do so far:
- Enhanced Z80 ASM core used in jEnesisDS.
- SMS/GG emulation.
- 10 Savestates per game.
- Rewind and fast forward feature.
- Settings can be saved per game.
- Fully rendered by the DS 2D hardware.
- Perfect sync option, that actually syncs every scanline (emulated scanline to DS scanline).
This option is more accurate, and needed for some games to look correctly, but it can be problematic to use it, when "Rewind" is enabled.
- sample accurate (almost ;P) PSG emulation.
- Stereo sound for GG games.
Known issues:
- timing is not exactly correct yet, so some games might not work, or have glitches.
- No FM emulation (yet?)
- Sprite updates need to be improved, sometimes there can be glitched sprites atm.
- Interface practically ripped from jEnesisDS
- Many more, that i don't remember now..
As always, please leave feedback in this thread.

Eke-Eke is on a roll today with the release of SmsPlus, Genesis Plus and Hugo here comes the release of the Emuloader for the Nintendo Wii and Gamecube.
This is a program that enables you to load emulators on your Nintendo Gamecube/Wii, using a nice graphical interface:
Current supported emulators are:
- Genesis Plus (Sega Megadrive)
- SMS Plus (Sega Master System & Game Gear)
- FCEuGC (Nintendo Entertainment System)
- GnuboyGX (Gameboy & Gameboy Color)
- Snes9xGX (Super Nintendo)
- HugoGC (NEC Pc-Engine)
- NeoPop (SNK NeoGeo Pocket)
- Neo-CD Redux (SNK NeoGeo CD)
The emulators are NOT provided with the loader.
This project is now splitted in two separated applications:
1) emuloader.dol is running in GC mode, it needs to be packed with a 7zip archive containing the emulators you want to use, see the [GAMECUBE Version] section below and follow the installation steps.
2) emuloader_wii.elf, emuloader_wii_pal60.elf are running in Wii mode. You can directly boot the appropriate version with your favorite elf loader. DOLS version are also provided. See the [WII] section below to know how to use the application.
WII Version =-
This is just another basic Front SD elf/dol loader that looks for known emulators.
To use it, simply follow the steps below:
1/ create a directory at the root the SDCARD (FAT16 format only) and named it "emuloader" (without the quotes)
2/ place any supported .dol or .elf emulators you want in this directory:
- Do NOT modify the original emulator filename, the loader is looking for specific strings inside filenames in order to detect which emulator is present or not:
- Genesis Plus ---> genplus
- SMS Plus ---> smsplus
- FCEuGC ---> fceugc
- GnuboyGX ---> gnuboy
- Snes9xGX ---> snes9x
- HugoGC ---> hugo
- Obviously, only use "wii mode" versions of these emulators, GC versions won't work properly in Wii mode !
3/ launch emuloader_wii*.elf or.dol with the method of your choice (for example, using TP Hack). In the menu, the following keys are used (Note that you still need a Gamecube controller):
. Button A: lauch the selected emulator
. Analog Stick, Left/right button: select another emulator
. Z Trigger: Reboot TP loader
NOTE: if you have a PAL Wii, always use the PAL60 version.
GAMECUBE Version =-
This is mostly designed for modchip users to be used as bootloader DOL on a Selbooting DVD but
you can also simply load&run emupack.dol with the method of your choice.
See "Usage" section on how to generate emupack.dol and eventually a selbooting DVD.
Features
--------
* Nice GUI (I hope ) which let you choose the console system to play
* "All-in-1" DOL which directly includes all the supported emulators executables
* LZMA (7Zip) support for emulator package in order to reduce the final dol's size
* automatic bootable DVD iso generation (batch file and all needed tools included)
Requirements
------------
* a chip-modded Gamecube/Wii or a way to boot homebrew
* the main program, emuloader.dol (precompiled and included)
* a 7zip archive containing the emulators dols (not included)
* Modchip and/or SoftMod
* 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org/) to create the emulators package
Usage
-----
You can not directly use the provided emuloader.dol: it need first to be packed with a 7zip archive
containing all the supported emulators (gamecube .dol files only) you want to use.
As a result, you will eventually get a new file, called emupack.dol which contain everything and can
now be used as any other dols !
To do this, after extracting the content of the archive somewhere on your hard disc, simply follow the steps below:
1) Using 7zip, create a "emupack.7z" archive with all the needed emulators dols (be careful not to use compressed/dollzed)
and place this file in the same directory as "emuloader.dol"
You have to use LZMA method for compressing, as well as the best compression level (ULTRA)
Important: Don't modify the original emulator filename, the loader is looking for specific strings
inside filenames in order to detect which emulator is present or not:
- Genesis Plus ---> genplus
- SMS Plus ---> smsplus
- FCEuGC ---> fceugc
- GnuboyGX ---> gnuboy
- Snes9xGX ---> snes9x
- HugoGC ---> hugo
- NeoPop ---> neopop
- Neo-CD Redux ---> redux
2) Double-click on emupack.bat: this will create the file "emupack.dol"
You can now directly load/run emupack.dol with the method of your choice (SDLoad,...) if you want but the best way
is to create a GC-Linux bootable DVD with all your roms and use emupack.dol as the bootdol.
For more infos about how to create a GC-Linux bootable DVD, you may want to read this:
http://www.gc-linux.org/wiki/Building_a_Bootable_Disc
Actually, the /pcutils folder contains everything you need to create the bootable DVD image, including automatic
batch files to generate your bootable DVD ISO file in a simple&quick way
3) First, put all the roms you want for each systems in their respective /bootdisc subfolders
You may want to create more subdirectories as the limit is 1000 files max. per directory
Be aware that the total size for the /bootdisc directory should not exceeded ~1.35GB if you are using Gamecube
and 4.7GB if you planned to use it on the Wii (still in GC mode).
Be aware that the minimal size should be at least ~500MB or the DVD won't boot !
Please refer to the related emulator's documentation for other specific requirements.
4) Double-click on BuildISO.bat (or BuildISO_PAL.bat in you have a PAL Wii, BuildISO_JAP.bat for japanese Wii)
and wait for the .iso file to be generated.
5) Burn the emudisc.iso image file with any DVD software & launch the DVD in your console (a modchip is required)
In the menu, use D-Pad to navigate & Button-A or START to choose a console system
Once you've started running one emulator, there is no way to come back to the menu, you have to reboot your console

Eke-Eke has released a new version of the PC Engine Emulator for the Nintendo Wii and Gamecube
Heres whats new:
Here is time for a new release: nothing has been done regarding emulation (there are still some games not working properly and still no CD image support) but I added emulation for the original video mode (240i) as well as progressive mode support (480p) for Wii users.
Otherwise, this port now benefits of the same features than the other ones on tehskeen, so consider this as a little but necessary update
Here is full changelog:
Quote:
- added Wii mode support (including front SD rom loading with LFN, TP reload, ...)
- added 4.7GB DVD support for chip-modded WII (GC mode only)
- removed MPAL TV mode, added EURGB60 TV mode support: fix display problem for Wii users (GC&Wii mode)
- added original rendering mode support (240i), like on real hardware
- added 480p (progressive) rendering mode support (not supported by the PAL60 version, use the other one !)
- added Console Reboot option in main menu (System Reboot)
- WRAM files can now be saved/loaded to/from SDCARD: located in /hugo/saves from the root of your SDCARD (no Wii front SD support)
- changed initial ROMS directory for SDCARD user: now looking for /hugo/roms from the root of your SDCARD
- fixed broken MCARD support
- modified controls when going into the rom selection menu (DVD or SDCARD), like other current emulators:
. use B button to go up one directory
. use Z button to quit the file selection menu
. use L/R triggers to go down/up one full page
. use Left/Right buttons or Analog stick to scroll the selected entry's filename when it can't be full displayed
- various menu rearrangment, minor bugfixes & sourcecode cleanup

are generally completely hidden under TV edges)

- improved Codemasters Mapper emulation: fix Excellent Dizzy Collection & Ernie Els Golf
- added Korean Mapper emulation: fix Sangokushi III & Dodgeball King
- adjusted SMS color palette values (compared side by side with a real PAL SMS 2)

[NGC/Wii]
- added support for original video mode (240p/288p): this makes games looking exactly like on original hardware (including scanlines)
- added "Aspect" option to switch between Original (correct aspect ratio with borders) and Fit Screen (full screen) display modes
- added "Xshift" & "Yshift" settings to let you adjust display area while keeping the original aspect ratio
- added "Border" option to enable/disable borders color emulation
- added "Palette" option to let you choose the Brightness level: RVB (darkest), Normal , Bright

In an interview with IGN Saturday at the New York Comic-Con, the Epic Games president Mike Capps lays down the law: No Wii game is ever forthcoming from his company. The reason? "We go forward, not back." Apparently the Wii is not next-gen to him.
I'm not gonna poke the snake of what-is and what-ain't next-gen. Let Capps do that for himself:
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there's a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I'm still waiting for that one game that makes me play it.
Now, granted, the Wii comes in for cutesy-poo abuse from hardcore gamers as the day is long. And from the tone of the titles and the console, it's hard to imagine Gears of War sequel using the Wiimote (I own neither, just assuming). But it's not like Wii titles put up marginal sales figures. That doesn't mean every developer has to start building a title, pronto. But neither does it mandate a developer totally shut the door on the industry's top-selling console if he's not. Just sayin'.

Updated release from Dopefish:
This is a Sudoku game for the Nintendo DS. My wife plays a lot of Brain Age sudoku, but she gets frustrated when she gets penalized for mistakes due to the handwriting recognition. So, obsessive homebrew coder that I am, I decided to write my own version (taking the easy route by using touchscreen buttons for the numbers, rather than handwriting recognition). This is not the most polished game, but it serves its purpose for my wife and I anyway.
