Takt of Magic is a spiritual successor to the Nintendo DS game Lost Magic. Since Takt is complete Garakuta Studio might be working on a true sequel to Lost Magic.
A trademark found in Japan’s trademark database suggests one is in development. Taito registered the rights to Lost Magic: Shouryu no Kyousoukyoku (loosely Lost Magic: Concerto for the Fallen). The first game didn’t have a subtitle so this discovery appears to be a new entry in the Lost Magic series.

Hudson is one of the few publishers making music/rhythm games specifically for Japan. Joysound Wii, a karaoke title, was an outstanding success. Their next licensed music game has a single band as the headliner.
Hudson made a deal with GReeeeN to create a Nintendo DS music game. GReeeeN sang the hit Kiseki and have a new album scheduled to come out later this month. No details about the Hudson X GReeeeN project were mentioned, not even the game’s name. Whatever this is Hudson plans to release it in Japan sometime in 2009.

When Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata took to the stage last week to unveil the Wii Vitality Sensor, he didn't really tell us how it all worked. No, that information now comes a week later.
Seems that the WVS works by measuring the flow of blood through the user's body, a small light sensor inside the device somehow able to measure that flow and determine various characteristics of your body's workings.
For instance, by watching your blood flow, the sensor can apparently determine when and how hard you're breathing in and out. One of the "games" demonstrated with the device - which may or may not make it into a "game" for the WVS - was a simple breathing exercise, as users timed their breathing to the tick/tock of a metronome.
How this can be used to enjoyment is at this stage up in the air. And until we get a firmer idea on what games/programs will be shipping with the WVS, we won't know whether it'll be the next revolutionary million-seller from Nintendo, or the next piece of hokey psuedo-science from Nintendo. Or both.

With its forgiving gameplay, Ubisoft was clearly trying to make the new Prince of Persia appeal to more casual or mainstream audience. So, IndustryGamers asked producer Ben Mattes, why not bring the game to the ultimate casual console: The Wii?
Mattes said that the system just couldn't handle what his team wanted to achieve, saying "the AI of Elika was highly advanced and required a lot of processing power; the world size and dynamic loading, the draw distance, the number of polygons in the characters... If we had done a Wii version, it would have been toned down, probably linear, it wouldn't have been an open-world game, and so it would have been a very different experience. We didn't want to water it down that way."
... Plus, they couldn't have charged Wii owners $10 for the "Epilogue" DLC! No, no, we kid.

Puzzle Quest developer Infinite Interactive is working on a new game called Puzzle Kingdoms for DS, PC and Wii.
Kingdoms, as the name suggests, revolves around conquering territories and expanding an empire, a bit like a Total War game. You'll amass armies and pit them against opposing forces in typical Puzzle Quest Bejeweled-style battles. Kingdoms will be subtly different, but the basic ideas are the same: outthink the enemy to deal damage, or build up mana to unleash special attacks.
Heroes can be picked from a variety of races, including trolls and dwarves, and more powerful troops and spells can be unlocked as the game unfolds.
Publisher Zushi will release Puzzle Kingdoms sometime this year, and you can sneak a peek at the Wii and DS versions of in our appropriate galleries.

For all the talk about Microsoft's Project Natal, one man isn't impressed -- in fact, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told the Financial Times that he's quite literally seen it before. Or, at least, he's seen motion-sensing cameras before.
Iwata told FT that Nintendo had previously experimented with camera-based motion sensing, but found better results with the accelerometers that became the basis of the Wii Remote. "Until they say when they're releasing it, how much it costs and what software it comes with," Iwata said, "we won't know whether that is the route we should have taken. However . . . I think they couldn't choose to release exactly the same thing."
Of course, it must be noted that pretty much everyone has seen motion-sensing cameras in games before, because Sony sold a lot of them starting in 2003. The idea isn't new, and thus it's not at all surprising that Nintendo has tried it. It's even less surprising that Iwata is psyching out Microsoft by downplaying the technology.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that he is happy to see Sony and Microsoft join the motion control arms race, but that their technology revelations at E3 this year were "later than expected".
In an interview with The Times, he stated that he was happy to see competition in that section of the games business, and he hopes that the overall population of people that play games will therefore increase.
"To tell the truth, I expected them to come up with stuff like this last year," he said. "So in my mind they're later than expected. I'd like to say to them, 'Welcome to the motion-control world!'
"We are happy that it is now becoming an industry standard. However, we still have no idea about when their products will be available, or how much they will cost, or what sort of software they will be used with.
"So, I am not in a position to judge whether they are a threat or not. And they should bear in mind that over the next year Nintendo will not be standing still. We're always at work on something new. I am actually looking forward to engaging in that sort of competition, because it gives our whole industry the chance to expand the gaming population."

We've heard stories of PR reps and devs obsessing over Metacritic scores, but EA Sports' Peter Moore's not sweating them, at least when it comes to Wii games. Noting that some titles in the low 70s can still move millions upon millions of units, Moore says that the people buying casual games and health titles like EA Sports Active aren't getting their info from Metacritic.
Moore's bigger concern? User reviews on Amazon. We'd like to snicker, but that's how we buy vacuums, so what do we know?

Nintendo is making its biggest move yet at expanding the DS beyond just a game machine. In Japan today, the company announced a partnership with Sharp System Products for the development and sale of a new educational system called Nintendo DS Classroom. The program targets elementary, junior high, and high school students.
As part of the Nintendo DS Classroom program, teachers use a PC to interact with individual DS, DS Lite or DSi units held by students. The interaction is done via Wi-Fi, with special software in the PC communicating with a special Nintendo DS Classroom cartridge in the DS units.
Sample uses for the program include interactive tests, with teachers feeding students questions and seeing responses come back in real time. Teachers can also host interactive surveys, with data tabulated and graphed on the fly.
On the student side of the program, students use the DS to answer not just multiple choice questions, but free response questions as well via the stylus. The software beams to the teacher images of the students' free responses.
Sharp System Products, which Nintendo notes has experience in this field, will be producing educational content using a system developed by Nintendo, and will also handle sales and, set-up and support.
Teachers will also be able to create their own custom content via a spreadsheet-style interface.
The service will kick off in February 2010, with Sharp offering 60 applications covering a variety of subjects.
If things work out in Japan, perhaps we'll see something similar in the English speaking world.

insin has released C-Dogs SDL 0.4.1-1
A port of C-Dogs SDL to the Wii using SDL Wii.
C-Dogs is an arcade shoot-em-up which lets players work alone and cooperatively during missions or fight against each other in the "dogfight" deathmatch mode.
The player character(s) are elite soldiers, taking on mission after mission to defeat evil in any form. That is, you kill it or blow it up. Sounds violent? Yep, that's right. Still, the emphasis is on gameplay rather than gore. But the game will involve a lot of mowing down of enemies - and the occasional unlucky civilian - so now you have been warned.
