While North America gets to enjoy a brand new Mario vs. Donkey Kong game on the US DSi Store this week, us Europeans will have to make do with Smash Bros. on Virtual Console. Not that we're bitter or anything.
Elsewhere in this week's European Nintendo downloads is Cocoto Platform Jumper for WiiWare and a pair of similarly not-very-exciting-sounding DSiWare games.
Here's the list:
Virtual Console
Super Smash Bros. (N64 / 1000 Points)
WiiWare
Cocoto Platform Jumper (Neko / 700 Points)
DSiWare
Asphalt 4: Elite Racing (Gameloft / 800 Points)
Sudoku 150! For Challengers (Hudson / 500 Points)

20m consoles sold in the territory after just 31 months on the market
The US video games market may well be starting to struggle in the face of the global recession, but Nintendo is undoubtedly fairing best in the face of economic instability as Wii sails past yet another significant sales milestone.
Since its release a mere 31 months ago the Wii has now sold over 20m units in North America, making it the fastest selling console in the territory’s history.
Let’s not forget either the extent to which the DS outstripped its console opposition in May, with the DSi shifting 390,000 machines and the DS Lite 244,000 units. The combined sales of 633,000 placed it far ahead of any other platform.
“The continued enthusiastic consumer response to our products shows that Nintendo has something for everyone,” Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway stated.
“For Nintendo, precision motion controls and social gaming are realities today. Upcoming games like Wii Sports Resort, launching at the end of July, and Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros Wii, coming this fall and holiday, will give consumers even more amazing experiences to enjoy.”

CNet is running a story inspired by comments from Ubisoft's Ben Mattes about how the Wii affects game development. When asked why there was no Wii version of Prince of Persia, Mattes said, "The reality is that from a technical standpoint, the Wii cannot do what we wanted the game to do. The AI of Elika was highly advanced and required a lot of processing power; the world size and dynamic loading, the draw distance, the number of polygons in the characters... If we had done a Wii version, it would have been toned down, probably linear; it wouldn't have been an open-world game, and so it would have been a very different experience." The article goes on to look at a number of Wii games that are stripped-down versions of their Xbox 360 or PS3 counterparts. Of course, part of the Wii's drawing power is that it's much simpler than the other systems, and has brought casual gaming to millions more people than it would have otherwise. The question remains, as Kotaku points out, whether the Wii's audience will persist after the other systems match its casual-gaming capabilities.

Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today announced an agreement with Mattel, Inc. (NYSE: MAT) to release Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5, a videogame for Wii and Nintendo DS. The title is based on Mattel's legendary Hot Wheels brand and eagerly anticipated Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 animated television series set to air this August on Cartoon Network. A crash and bash vehicular combat title developed by Sidhe Interactive, the Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 videogame will hit shelves this Fall.
"Hot Wheels Battle Force 5 lends itself perfectly to interactive entertainment," said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. "We are closely collaborating with the TV show's creators on a host of exciting ideas that will tightly intertwine the show and gaming experiences."
Hot Wheels Battle Force 5 features the speed and high-energy collisions that kids have loved about the Hot Wheels brand for generations. Each Battle Force 5 episode transports kids to a fantasy world where they will meet an elite team of teens in five ultra-cool, ultra-fast vehicles who must work together to save earth from the most outrageous galactic predators. In the game, fans will be able to live out these adventures with pedal-to-the-metal combat-racing in numerous Battle Zones, where they "car battle" with The Sark and The Vandals, dangerous aliens from another dimension. When vehicles execute an attack, they transform and unleash their battle mode weaponry. Speeding along tracks between Battle Arenas, players must find a key in each Battle Zone to close the portal and prevent the aliens from invading Earth.
"The crash and bash excitement of Battle Force 5 naturally translates from television to videogame and provides a deeper level of engagement for fans of the show to experience," said Tim Kilpin, General Manager, Mattel Brands' Girls, Boys & Games Division. "Activision has been a fantastic partner and we think gamers are going to love one of our most ambitious projects to date."

Today SouthPeak Games released new details on levels in Roogoo Twisted Towers.
Environment 4: Islands
After players trudge their way out of the world of Ice, they will soon find themselves trapped in the mysterious and alluring region of Roo known as the Islands. Keep a lookout because those pesky butterflies have returned to do whatever it takes to keep players from completing their tasks!
The Islands are filled with plenty of opportunities for players to show those nasty Meemoos that they won't back down from a challenge that easily. Meteors will be falling faster than ever as they come rushing down towards the Islands in groups of one, three, or even ten blocks. The challenges won't stop there – Meemoos will be traveling by hot air balloons, skydiving by the dozens while tossing bombs, and blocking those magical meteors' paths in an attempt to stop Roogoo from achieving his goal.
Players will also find themselves with a new meteor shape, the pink heart, for several of the regions. The heart can also be found in the aerial lightning arena, where Meemoos have taken control of several fighter jets and are ruthlessly dropping missiles in an attempt to take Roogoo down once and for all.
Bonus tip! For the people who have their Nintendo DS, they will be able to conquer the meteors in a lightning-fast round of falling meteors.
Environment 5: Underwater
After escaping the allure of the mysterious Islands, players will come across a new, exciting adventure – conquering the vastly undiscovered Underwater environment.
Although players will have successfully fended off those troublesome butterflies, a new creature, the stingray, will come out to hassle players. Players will have to keep a firm watch on their treasure chests and blocks to guide them around the stingrays and away from nasty Meemoo pirates, all while keeping their eyes glued on those tricky platforms! Several of the platforms that players will encounter throughout the sea will be rotating at a lightning fast rate, knocking treasure chests and blocks into the deepest part of the sea. Players will also need to be prepared to get their hands dirty as they'll find themselves drilling through platforms to get their blocks to their ultimate destination.
At the end of the level, players will have to face off with a kraken, the brutal, notorious master of the sea. Defeating the kraken won't be easy as players will quickly discover. Quick maneuvering past the kraken's flailing tentacles is needed to avoid the blocks being flung into the bottomless blue abyss. Once players have steered their blocks to the bottom platform, they'll then need to skillfully smack the kraken them.
Environment 6: Whale
Players go on an emotional roller coaster ride ranging from euphoric delight (discovering that they've broken away from the dangers of the perilous sea with all their limbs intact) to a sad realization that they have, instead, been swallowed by an enormous Whale.
Players soon learn that the inside of the Whale has been littered with everything it's consumed including an overwhelming amount of obese fish and evil Meemoos. Those wretched fish and Meemoos will find ways to clutter your screen, hassle your blocks, and obstruct your view.
The Whale's appetite, seemingly insatiable, has also managed to swallow a large fleet of Meemoo ships, leaving players to battle, maneuver, and destroy villainous Meemoos. Accelerated platforms will bring players an additional challenge, but nothing the skilled player won't be able to handle.
Briefly escaping The Whale to find some fresh air, a giant blimp must be taken down but millions of missiles and Meemoos will do everything they can to keep players from succeeding.

Konami's WireWay has gamers drawing elastic lines on a DS screen to flick an alien hero through dangerous environments. Can such a simple concept deliver enough fun to warrant a full blown game?
What Is It?
WireWay is a DS puzzle game that has you flicking a tiny alien around a world using elastic bands you draw between points on the screen. The game includes a 48-level quest mode and a challenge mode. There will also be a versus mode.
What We Saw
I played through a couple levels of the puzzler.
How Far Along Is It?
The game is set for an October release, but the build I played was in Alpha.
What Needs Improvement?
Repetition: As fun as the basic concept is, the idea of flicking my way through 48 levels is somewhat daunting. The levels I saw were very similar. Hopefully, as the game progresses, the developers add some new twists to the premise.
What Should Stay The Same?
Strong, Simple Concept: The idea of controlling not your character, but your surroundings isn't done enough in video games. In this case you can only make Wiley Springer move forward in a straight line by touching him. The rest of the controls are about drawing lines on the screen and then, once Wiley is clinging to one, pulling back on it with the stylus and flicking him to the next line you've drawn. It's a fun concept and it works well to make the game an interesting puzzler.
No Death: Instead of worrying about killing off Wiley, or running out of time, you just have to concentrate on not getting him stuck somewhere and making your way to the end. I like the notion of a puzzler that doesn't try to stress you out.
Final Thoughts
WireWay is a fun little puzzler, a bit of light fare at a time when developers are churning out deep, enthralling, time-consuming experiences. It's nice, sometimes, to take a break and not have to think about plot or character development or strategy when you do.

Nintendo may be reviving one of its more controvercial characters in a new DS title.
The latest issue of Famitsu contains a mysterious teaser ad. Set against a hot pink background, the ad shows a tiny sprite of Tingle, a mascot character of sorts for the Zelda series, hanging from a balloon. Text above the character says "Fairy?". Below the character, the ad lists the URL for Nintendo's official Japanese site.
The ad lists the mystery product as a DS game with a CERO rating of A. That's the lowest rating in Japan, so this probably isn't the gritty WWII FPS we've been waiting for from Nintendo.
Tingle has seen his very own DS game in the past. Although not released in America, the character starred in Freshly Picked - Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, which was released to Japan in 2006, then to Europe the following year.
Famitsu officially hits news stands on Friday, so it's possible Nintendo's official site will clear up this mystery later in the week.

News/release from BlazerRazor
Hello all,
I thought I would post a little about my personal project. Basically this project is a project connected to my Computer Science degree, but I thought I would post it on here as well, and maybe you guys would be interested in testing it and using it. As I said it is just a personal project made to explore what is possible with the DS and should not considered as a very useful application - just for the fun of it
I am going to release it soon, but it's not quite ready yet.
The solution is client-server based, obviously, and requires you to have a server running. It is not plugged with synergy, it is my own solution. The server receives commands from the Nintendo DS and acts according to them.
UPDATE:
First version released - 0.1. Mouse and keyboard support + media play controls. Keyboard needs serious calibration, will be done later. Remember, this is a VERY early release, but I want to please you as soon as possible It will contain bugs and is not finished at all as a project.
Source will be released at a later point, need to clean up the codebase and stuff.
Download Remote Touch DS, and have fun
Feel free to redistribute this .zip, will save me bandwidth.
(Read "README" in .zip before you ask any questions please )
Changelog:
0.1 (first public release) Mouse and keyboard support + media play controls. Keyboard needs serious calibration, will be done later.

Namco Bandai announced three Tales series games simultaneously, and now whenever we get an update on one, it seems the other two follow.
The latest on Tales of Vesperia PS3, Tales of Graces and Tales of Versus comes from the usual source: leaked information from Jump Magazine.
For PS3's Vesperia the magazine confirms a final Japanese release date of September 17. Namco Bandai is working some magic for the PS3 version and has somehow managed to add pirate Patty to the opening anime sequence. It's good that they're putting in the effort, as Japanese players are going to have to pay 7,800 yen for the game. That's about 80 bucks, but it's the same price 360 owners had to pay.
For Wii's Tales of Graces, the magazine offers a first look at the heroine, Sophie. She joins Asbel as the only characters revealed so far for the game. Sophie has lost her memory when she first meets Asbel. The name "Sophie" is actually something Asbel decided to give her.
Screens in the magazine show the two characters fighting alongside one another. Aside from that, Namco Bandai is keeping very quiet on this particular installment, which is one of the main "mothership" titles for the franchise.
Finally, the Tales of Versus update. As usual, the new information concerns new characters. Joining the growing cast of playable combatants in this Tales series fighter are Rita (from Vesperia), Tear Grants (Abyss), Kyle Dunamis (Destiny 2), Senel Coolidge (Legendia), Lloyd Irving (Symphonia) and Colette Brunelle (Symphonia).
Versus will lead off this season's Tales fun with a Japanese release set for August 8.
