A new version of the 10 year old Nintendo 64 emulator 1964 has been released, i checked the zipfile and both binaries and source have been released, heres the news from them:
Now that Roger Federer has finally won the French Open, the hex is over and we can safely do this:
We've released the source to 1964 1.1. (1964 1.0 was an experimental compiler that I accidentally released which breaks games like Perfect Dark and Banjo Tooie. Please use version 1.1) We also did this to support the efforts of the Surreal64 team. Please bear in mind that most of the source has not been touched in over five years. We've become much better developers since then and although there was a lot that we wanted to do with this code..(refactoring, bug fixes, etc), real life takes precedence. This code is still much better than the 0.8.5 source that's out in the public domain today.
Improvements:
Kirby's face doesn't stay smashed in with block-linking set to on in Kirby64 - The Crystal Shards.
Loading from a save state would sometimes cause the audio to disappear.
LLE RSP audio plugin (1964 audio 2.7). We created a code generator that reverses RSP microcodes to C. The generated C source is provided but we are not currently releasing portions of the code generator that creates the C files (namely Gerrit's DSP opcode source). Fear not, we provided enough for you to build the project.
Speed - although running with the RSP LLE audio plugin will slow things down.
Plenty of other things I am forgetting since it's been so long.
Some of the binaries in the package are probably old-Rice video comes to mind, and probably the ini needs an overhaul. If someone is interested in putting together a more user-friendly 1.0.x binary distribution, I'll eventually host it on our downloads page in a couple weeks. It might be a good idea to start work on that in the emutalk.net 1964 forums.
I would like to keep up with the Surreal64 project's progress, so if there is a subversion repository or CVS repository, send me a private message on Emutalk and then we'll chat by email. Thanks!
Other fun project ideas that I think would be interesting for others to work on:
- Replace my dynarec with an MSIL code generator or JAVA bytecode generator. I worked on this once before and have some starter code lying around for MSIL if anyone is interested in this project.
- Port 1964 to Flash. Generate Flash bytecode.
- The UI for the Windows version is in desperate need of an overhaul.
- The project needs major refactoring in C++.
1964 also turned 10 earlier this year.

Before fitness games were all the rage, Konami released almost a dozen Dance Dance Revolution games with workout modes. The latest iteration for Wii, simply called Dance Dance Revolution, takes this in a new direction.
Playing Dance Dance Revolution with the balance board isn’t like dancing at all. It’s all about leaning. When you see a left arrow you shift your weight to the left. An up arrow means tilt forward and a right arrow means lean right. The balance board mode also has players punch with the remote and nunchuck while the game tracks how many kilogram calories you burn.
Hip rotating replaces freeze arrows. When you see one of these sections you have to rotate your hips as if you were gyrating an invisible hula hoop.
I appreciate that Konami is evolving the Dance Dance Revolution series, but won’t players lose more pounds by stepping instead of leaning?

Newly released at Play Asia:
Hayarigami is a detective adventure based on chilling urban legends. You can either investigate these cases through a scientific method or through an occultism method. These two paths lead you to different clues and different endings, so to learn the full story behind the often deadly cases, you need to ride through this ghost house roller coaster at least twice.
And you have a total of four cases to crack to clear the game.
From chain mails that leads to murder, mysterious suicides and missing children, you, as a police officer have to put all your brain cells to work, connect the events together to discover the truth. Besides the three that you solve as a policeman, there is a bonus chapter where you need to find the culprit behind a series of foretold murders.

Nintendo global president Satoru Iwata isn't afraid to make hard decisions, having recently scuttled a new piece of Nintendo hardware that might never see the light of day, never to put smiles on faces.
According to a report from CNBC, Iwata says that Nintendo had another handheld gaming system in the works as recently as three years ago. What that platform would have been, which market it would have targeted and what kinds of games it would play, Iwata didn't say.
What he did say, or at least indicate, was that platform that would coexist with the Nintendo DS and Wii wouldn't do much for the company's "momentum."
"But when we are launching new hardware, the most important is thing is to sustain the momentum," Iwata said. "If introducing new hardware won't do anything to do that, well…" Well, what?!
Could it have been the ill-conceived dual-DS card version of the Nintendo DS? Or could it have been something more interesting, another entry in the Game Boy family? Only Iwata knows!

Microsoft's motion control technology Project Natal is most likely to be introduced as a spoiler to dampen the launch of an expected high definition upgrade to Nintendo's Wii console.
That's according to Michael Pachter, analyst for Wedbush Morgan, who doesn't believe the new Microsoft tech is likely to launch until after 2010 and only with significant third-party support.
"We think that Project Natal is intended less as a game control scheme than it is as an easy-to-use dashboard control scheme, and we do not expect the device to be launched at retail until it has sufficient third party game support to justify a majority of the installed base to purchase it (we estimate 30 third party games would be sufficient)," wrote Pachter in a note following last week's E3 conference.
"We do not see Project Natal as a Wii killer; rather, we think that Microsoft intends to introduce it at the same time as the launch of the Wii HD, and hopes to hold off Nintendo’s plans to encroach on Xbox 360 turf after 2010."
Project Natal incorporates motion control, voice and camera recognition, and was shown at E3 not only with basic game prototypes, but also as a demo with users interacting with an AI character.
But Pachter pointed to more integration of online services with Xbox Live as the company's most significant unveiling last week, as it adds Netflix, Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm to the console's offerings.
"We were most impressed by the company’s clear enunciation of its strategy to turn the Xbox 360 into an internet and media hub for the living room, and we believe that the most momentous news of the press conference was the opening up of the Xbox Live dashboard to the internet.
"Among Microsoft’s many announcements, the company unveiled its intention to allow interaction with the Netflix website, to allow free streaming of FM radio through Last.fm, and to allow Xbox Live members to access Facebook and Twitter through the Xbox Live dashboard.
"These announcements demonstrate the power of Xbox Live as a web browser, and signal an intention to convert the 30 million plus installed Xbox 360 base before Apple TV can gain a foothold in the media hub market," he said.

Aside from an iPhone game Sega hasn’t done much with the Super Monkey Ball franchise. AiAi seems to be paying his banana bills by making cameos in other Sega games like Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing.
Maybe, just maybe, Sega hasn’t given up on the Super Monkey Ball series. They registered a trademark in Europe for Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll, which sounds like Super Monkey Ball with a balance board. This concept has potential. The Marble Madness-like mini-game in Wii Fit is fun to play. If Sega can borrow those controls and add solid Amusement Vision style level design I’ll give Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll a whirl.

Skipp and Friends by Mukunda Johnson, Ken Snyder, Steven Velema and Hubert Lamontagne is a game entered in the recently held PDRoms Coding Competition v4.01 ( http://pdroms.de/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=105 )
The object of the game is to move all three characters to the EXIT in each level. Each player has 2 limited special abilities that you may use to help advance through the level. The in-game status bar displays the name of each ability and how many times it can be used during that level.
For example, Apple's two abilities are CARDKEY and SCREAM. Using CARDKEY next to a door will cause it to open and detract one CARDKEY point (you need at least one point to open a door). Her SCREAM stuns nearby enemies for a short period of time.
All three players must be alive and to the exit to complete the level. If you get yourself stuck, press START to pause and then SELECT to restart the level.
After you complete each level a 4 letter password is given to you so that you may resume the game using the Password option at the title screen, after your system has been shut off.
