sgstair:
October 19, 2005: sgIP (5am)
As promised, I'm working on a TCP stack to call my own, and as for names, it just doesn't get much better than sgIP (thanks to Rusty_ in #dsdev for suggesting this name) I've spent the past day or two with my nose deep in several RFCs, and have now started to put my newfound knowledge to good use - the stack is just getting started but the design for it is quite solid. Anyway, I'll add more info here when I get it a bit more complete.
October 21, 2005: More about sgIP (5am)
Progress is continuing on sgIP - as of right now the core data/glue routines are done, the ARP system is mostly done and IP/TCP/UDP have been started. I'm too tired to continue tonight, will be back working on it when I wake up.

Capcom® today announced Resident Evil®: Deadly Silence for Nintendo DS™, a rendition of the original Resident Evil game that features both new and familiar gameplay, adapted to incorporate the handheld system's unique feature set. Resident Evil will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2006, marking a decade since the birth of the series that has been credited with popularizing and defining the survival horror genre. The Resident Evil series has sold more than 26 million units worldwide and is Capcom's highest selling series. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence will carry an "M" rating for mature audiences by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) and Capcom plans to release the game across North America in Q1 2006.
A secluded mansion in Raccoon City has been the center of top-secret biotech experiments - all funded by a mysterious corporation known only as Umbrella. When contact with the scientists at the mansion is broken and reports of gory attacks come in from areas nearby, the Special Tactics and Rescue Squads (S.T.A.R.S.) is sent in to investigate. The team is chased into the nearby foreboding mansion by a pack of monstrous creatures. Once inside the adventure begins.
Players control Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine as they embark on a horrific quest through a dark and mysterious mansion filled with unimaginable horrors. An entire arsenal aids them on their quest including bazookas, shotguns, pistols, health supplies and more. The heroes will need all the help they can get to survive a house filled with flesh hungry zombies, giant spiders, horrific amphibious creatures, mutant dogs and worse.
Players can relive the beginning of the Resident Evil saga in a newly revamped "rebirth mode." Whereas the original game focused more on puzzle solving, this new version will place a heavy emphasis on action with more enemies and ammo as well as improved visuals for intense enemy confrontations. Also, nearly half the puzzles have been freshly upgraded providing new challenges for fans. In addition, the rebirth mode includes enhanced controls and will incorporate the DS system's unique feature set, utilizing the touch screen and microphone functions.
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence includes the following features:
Dual screens offer a more accessible player interface
Top screen displays area map, ammo supply and color denoted health meter
Bottom screen features main action view and also switches to sub screen menus
Touch panel provides innovative gameplay variety
New battle elements using touch screen - control the knife with the stylus to slash enemies and even deflect jumping dogs
Fend off enemies - an effective maneuver for escaping an enemy's deadly clutches is to move the stylus quickly back and forth over your foe which will shake them off
Navigate sub screen menus by using either the touch screen or regular buttons
New enhanced controls
Reload function - allows players to quickly and easily refill their equipped weapons
Quick 180* turn - provides much needed agility to escape dangerous situations
Knife button - permanently mapped knife can be used at any time, reducing one item from the inventory
Microphone function - solve puzzles and even resuscitate your injured teammate by blowing into the microphone
Multiplayer network gameplay in specially created mansion map
Two to four players can play wirelessly
Vs. mode - players compete for high scores by defeating the most enemies and performing the quickest escapes
Cooperative mode - work together with others to solve puzzles, collect items and get out of the mansion

In unofficially announcing a DS version of Mario Paint for the second half of 2006, Nintendo may have “inadvertently confirmed a Revolution version as well.”
“Nintendo plans to include painting, animation, and music functions in the game, which may be implemented together as one game or separated into three games like their Nintendogs series.”
More Wi-Fi connectivity is in the works, as “the new Mario Paint will be a community-building game and users will be able to share their creations with other DS users and Revolution users.” The same source claims that the Revolution edition will also have 3D-modeling capabilities.
Finally, an online version of Pictochat that really takes advantage of the DS’s stylus-based abilities (and the Revolution’s hand-held capabilities). We expect galleries of Paint-produced masterpieces to be posted to the web as soon as the games are released next year.

They’re lovable. They fetch you presents. They obey your commands AND work hard to earn you money! They’re…not real women! Well, we knew that, but I think they could be on to something with this Chinese web site’s spoof of some new dog game for the DS. If this idea ever gets the greenlight, the big N might have to rethink their “touch me” tagline. Are you listening, Rockstar?

New Commercial DS Game, heres the info from Success HK
Digging Strike combines elements from the original Dig Dug and its successor, Dig Dug II. The top screen shows an overhead view of the stage, similar to Dig Dug II. The bottom screen shows the stage in classic Dig Dug side view as you dig. Your goal is to defeat a single large boss character that has taken over the stage. Enemies move around underground with you, collecting food. Should they get their hands on food, they float up to the surface and are then consumed by the boss character, which then evolves into a more difficult form. You've got to avoid this by taking out food and enemies under ground. You have a number of weapons and items at your disposal outside of just your drill. Underground, you'll find magnets, bombs and boxing gloves which can be used to defeat enemies. You'll also find parts strewn about underground that you can use to build new weapons.

News from Lik Sang
While graphics and gameplay usually take the spot light in videogames, music is all too often overlooked. From time to time though, innovations are made, from games like Vib Ribbon, to Parappa the Rapper, Dance Dance Revolution, Space Channel 5 and Rez, music played a vital part. Then there's Tomb Raider which used a unique combination of silence and song to reward and brew up emotions in us, and games such as Lumines and NiGHTS where the music actually reacted and changed as we played.
Each game system usually has a few such titles over its lifetime, but in less than a year the Nintendo DS already has three. Electroplankton, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan and Dai Gassou! Band Brothers provide hungry DS systems with a fresh taste in games. Considering after Jump Superstars they are #2, #3, #4 and #5 on our best selling Japanese NDS games of all time, it seems there just may be more to these titles than some people realize. So let's see what all the fuss is about...
Electroplankton
First up, being developed by Nintendo themselves, Electroplankton has received the most attention. It's described as "Touchable Media Art", and pushing the boundaries of what you'd consider a videogame, the creatures in its water based world will react to your touch and voice and produce different sounds as a result.
There's ten species of Electroplankton, each of which you can play with differently and produce new unique songs. For example Beatnes can have tunes like the Super Mario Bros. theme playing in the background, and by touching their heads or various parts of the tails, you create your own remix of the Nintendo classic. If you'd prefer to drum up your own beats though, other animals create various noises and by manipulating their environment, come together and an original melody comes to life before your eyes and ears. Rec-Rec's for example 'eat' sounds when hungry, and you can 'feed' them what ever you like through the built in microphone.
Then there's Nanocarp, which will group into different formations based on your own sounds, from clapping in various different patterns, to blowing on them, and even singing to them. Singing "Do, Re, Mi" will have them line up in the shape of a musical note, while other things like raising or lowering your voice as you sing, or changing the octave produce new results. There's so many possibilities with all the different Electroplankton, it's easy to loose track of time just playing, even though this isn't a game in the traditional sense of scores, levels etc.
If you'd prefer just to sit back and relax however, you can leave Audience Mode running and let the ever changing Electroplankton perform for your listening pleasure. With English words, this couldn't be more import friendly, and comes with a free set of NDS headphones. So if you haven't yet experienced Electroplankton, give it a go today and see what the importers are raving about!
Everyone needs a little encouragement now and then. Whether you're studying for College, you're a Ramen Shop owner with cat pee up that needs mopping off the floor, or you're a sexually frustrated pottery maker, this team of male cheerleaders is here to help! Using those situations and more, you take care of the background music as the black trench coat wearing trio spring into action and attempt to motivate who ever needs it.
Gameplay uses various glowing circles on the touch screen, and as larger circles timed to the music close in on them, you tap them. Not just having you keep the beat though, each circle produces a sound effect of its own such as a whistle, clash of the cymbals, hit of the drums or others. As the game goes on it'll throw new challenges your way too, such as following a rolling a ball around, or spinning a turn table. The game will keep you busy for a long time, and the later levels will provide a worthy challenge for even the most hardcore of gamers. Along the way there's a wide variety of songs for everyone too, from rock to J-pop, funk and more.
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is the type of whacked out insanity that will almost certainly never get picked up for a release outside of Japan, but that you'll be dying to show your friends. If they have an NDS also, you can hook them in by sending a demo over the wireless, and once your buddies get a copy of their own, up to four of you can jam at once. Menus, while in Japanese are quite easy to navigate without knowing Japanese, but there's always a translation to it all a click away never the less.
With a great and in-your-face graphical style, plus the 16 reviews on our product page, an average of a full , every day many import gamers are finding out that Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is one of the most random and flat out fun purchases they've made all year! And with your help cheering him on, the Japanese business man that needs to transform into a 20 story high giant and battle a huge monster can finally do just that.
Dai Gasso! Band Brothers
Dai Gasso! Band Brothers lets you create your own virtual band through the Nintendo DS. Up on the top screen one of 40 songs play, such as the opening theme to Full Metal Alchemist, or Nintendo tunes from titles like Fire Emblem, Super Mario Sunshine, Dr. Mario, Kirby, Excitebike and more. Then using buttons on the touch screen, you're responsible for playing one part of the band, aiming to hit the right notes, timing and pitch. As you improve, the number of parts you have to play simultaneously increases, and when you reach Professional mode half steps and manual octave changes come into play. Because of the pace and sheer number of things you have to do at once at this point, the touch screen is then completely replaced by buttons.
When it's time for the band to practice, the game's dedicated mode for just that lets you pause, rewind and fast forward songs till you're happy with your results. Custom mode is the best of all however. Here you can create your own tunes, leaving the possibilities wide open, and letting you save 8 at any time onto the cartridge. Each song can also have up to 8 separate tracks, and Nintendo have clearly done their research to create an impressive MIDI composer here. There's the ability to cut, copy and paste, and with an unlimited number of undo and redo’s you can always satisfy your "what if's". If like me and you're a little rusty on the old composing skills though, you could always hum or even sing to your NDS, and it'll try and whip up a song to match.
In addition to the single player mode, you can have up to 8 members of your band play either the game's built in tunes, or your own, even if your friends don't own a copy of the game. All linked via wireless, everyone plays a part, and you can see 8 Japanese office workers try just that to the previously mentioned theme of Full Metal Alchemist here:
Dai Gassou! Band Brothers was, and still is, so popular in Japan that Nintendo actually released an expansion pack. Using the GBA cartridge slot, "Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartridge" contains over 30 more songs from pop, anime and game music like Super Mario 64, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Star Fox 64, Catch! Touch! Yoshi! and more. With a large amount of English words, this game would score a moderate on the import accessibility scale. Some trial and error is needed to figure out the more complex functions, but quickly it'll become instinctive, and that's exactly what you need when pumping out the fast tunes anyway.
Both the full game and expansion pack are in stock now, and if you've ever had an interest in creating music, Dai Gassou! Band Brothers is something not to miss. Or for those that haven't, this game makes a fantastic portable alternative to the likes of Keyboard Mania and Dance Dance Revolution!

Remember back at TGS when Nintendo finally unveiled the Revolution controller, causing the entire internet to spontaneously explode? Well, you might also remember the company's video featuring a whole host of prominent developers gushing over the Revolution wand at the end of its presentation - and they don't come much more prominent than Hideo Kojima.
The Metal Gear creator mentioned at the time that his team was looking into Revolution development but now it seems that US magazine Game Informer has had confirmation during a chat with the man himself that work on a brand new title is officially underway.
Kojima is working with his Metal Gear Ac!d team on the still undisclosed - but almost certainly unrelated to the Metal Gear series - title, which can only be good news for Nintendo, securing the indisputable talents of such a high-profile developer for its next-gen machine.
We'll have more news on the mystery game just as soon as Kojima's ready to slap his bacon on the counter.

As the launch of Nintendo's online handheld racer Mario Kart DS squeals ever closer, we're getting increasingly frothy over the steady stream of new details pouring from the deepest recesses of the internet.
This time around, website ds.advancedmn.com is reporting on confirmation of the complete track listing for Mario's latest tyre-burning trip around the tarmac. It's pretty astonishing purely for the sheer number of tracks Nintendo is cramming into the handheld version, with a total of thirty-two courses in the mix.
There's been some confusion on the web previously regarding the game's Retro track mode, with various reports incorrectly claiming that Mario Kart's past glories are all you'll have to race around come launch day. In fact, not only does the game feature sixteen fully 3D reworkings of classic courses culled from previous GameCube, GBA, N64 and SNES versions but sixteen brand new tracks as well.
Check out the full listing below and dare to dream of the unadulterated moustachioed racing bliss you'll be experiencing come November 25.

Nintendo finally announced the Rumble Pak accessory for the DS. It will be bundled with Metroid Prime Pinball. Just shove this accessory right into your DS and lo and behold, your system will do some kind of vibrating, jiggle thing. Instead of the usual “Start GBA game” you’d see when you insert a cartridge, you’ll get a message that says “DS Option Pak inserted.” Rumour has it that the noises the game makes in rumble mode is pretty unbearable—loud and chirpy—but it certainly is different. Look for other games (like Metroid Prime Hunter and Mario and Luigi:Partners in Time) to support the pack soon.

I went to Linker4U.com cause i was thinking about buy the Superpass Key, but I saw a note that said "Note: If the serial number of your NDS start with '12' or later(e.g. NU12255608(4)), your console is not compatible with SuperPass." I mines is NU40 does that mean i am unable to user superpass or has it been updated to work on some newer. Also if it doesnt work should i go with Passme instead
