DS software continued to sell strongly as well, with puzzle title Pokemon Torouze holding firm at number two in the ranking, while Nintendo's pair of Brain Training titles - DS Training for Adults and Gentle Brain Exercises - are both still in the chart, at numbers eight and nine respectively.
Indeed, the DS continues to be Japan's top-selling console as well, with the handheld garnering a massive 40 per cent of the market this week, compared to 24 per cent for the PlayStation Portable and 19 per cent for the PlayStation 2.
The Game Boy Micro, however, continues to see a slide in sales after a strong launch back in September, and this week saw its market share down to under 10 per cent for the first time - with the combined market share of all three Game Boy Advance variants sliding to below 16 per cent.

Sega games guru Yu Suzuki has gone on record in an interview with Japan's Dorimaga to clarify some of the confusion surround the direction of his project Shenmue Online and also share further thoughts on next-gen consoles.
As we reported the other day, Suzuki-san appears to be having a bet each way with regard to the Xbox 360 and the PS3, reinforcing his praise of the PS3s technical potential while also bigging up the ease of development on 360. However, Suzuki-san now lavishes a fair amount of praise on Nintendo's Revolution too, saying: "It resets the game experience."
Responding to recent allegations of a development freeze or potential canning of Shenmue Online, Suzuki-san was bullish: "Reports of a halt in development are completely unfounded. We have daily meetings and are currently working hard on the game's development." Shenmue Online is currently pegged for release next year over in the east, although it appears doubtful we'll see the online version of the Dreamcast classic any time soon over here in the west.
Suzuki-san also revealed that his current arcade outing Psy-Phi, will be a kind of dodgeball-style sci-fi offering. We await a first look with interest but Suziki-san also tantalisingly hinted that he may move into next-gen development as part of Sega's AM Plus division.

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that the Famicom themed Game Boy Micro would make a stateside appearance in late December as the “20th Anniversary Edition Game Boy Micro.” It’s unclear if Nintendo also plans to sell the Famicom faceplate as a standalone accessory—we’re assuming they will. Collectors may value this addition, but the Famicom-look doesn’t exactly trigger our “nostalgia button.” We wish they’d just hurry up and release that NES faceplate!

Adding to an already impressive line-up of new releases for the start of 2006, Nintendo of Europe has announced a distribution deal with Capcom to bolster its post-Christmas European release schedule.
Four new games have been added to the list, with Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Megaman Battle Network 5 coming to DS and Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble heading to the GameCube.
NOE's senior marketing director, Jim Merrick, stated: "Nintendo is delighted to have signed a distribution deal with one of the most prestigious developers in the gaming industry. Capcom games are of the highest standards in both creativity and quality and fit perfectly with our line-up for the first half of 2006."
Both Viewtiful Joe titles will see a release in February; with acclaimed DS title Phoenix Wright following on March 10th. No firm release date for Megaman has been released, though the game is scheduled for the early part of 2006.
Whilst the Capcom distribution deal will add four great titles to the release schedule for Nintendo, the company has since announced an incredibly diverse schedule that consists at present of an astonishing forty-five new releases.
Twenty-five DS titles, nine GameCube titles and eleven GBA games, are all positioned for release on the three Nintendo formats within the first three months of the coming year.
