News from Lik Sang
Celebrating the Gameboy legacy, and hot on the heels of the Micro launch, Yujin have released a capsule toy collection featuring Nintendo's handheld line recreated in fantastic detail. Models revisited include the GameBoy (DMG-01), GameBoy Pocket (MGB-001), GameBoy Light (MGB-101), GameBoy Color (CGB-001), GameBoy Advance (AGB-S-WA) and GameBoy Advance SP (AGS-001). A little set of accessories is also included with each toy, such as a game cartridge, GameBoy printer or camera. Brand new for October, each is just US$ 4.95.
Next in line we have the Nintendo Cartridge Type Pocket Calculator from Banpresto. Inside a Famicom (NES) cartridge replica of either Super Mario Bros., Legend of Zelda or Ice Climber, is a fully working calculator, complete with authentic screenshot and real game sound effects. 15 cm wide (6 inches), these are US$ 14.95 each, and are the perfect example of original gaming collectables you can only pick up from your favorite hardcore store.
Previously we had plushes from the Super Mario DX label, very high quality soft toys from one of the most famous and best selling gaming series of all time, Super Mario Bros. Naturally these didn't take long to sell out, but now to help christen the title's 20th anniversary, we have Goomba and Koopa Troopa. A large 27 cm high (10.5 inches) in size, these are only US$ 16.95 each, a truly great price for a plush.
If you prefer to enjoy Mario and friends how they were 20 years ago though, we offer Nintendo Mini Mascot Keychains from Banpresto. At just US$ 2.95 each, you get Mario or Luigi from Super Mario Bros., Popo or Nana from Ice Climber, Player 1 or 2 colors from Balloon Fight, and Link wearing either Green or Blue from The Legend of Zelda, all in their classic pixel designs.
These are just the first collectibles to come from a complete line-up of Mario 20th Anniversary goodies that Banpresto has on the release calendar for this quarter. Stay tuned for more, as we expect tons of Mario related products to come within the next three months, from computer mice to bath towels, plushes, and much more.

Mario Kart fans rejoice as the hugely popular racing game comes to the Nintendo DS on 25th November 2005. Mario Kart DS will drive players new and old to distraction as they race their way around a selection of tracks, including all-new extravaganzas and time-honoured classics from previous versions of the games. What's more Mario Kart DS will be the first Nintendo DS title to offer gamers online play allowing you to race anyone, anywhere, anytime for free.
Want to show off your skills? Then get excited as Mario Kart DS features both online and wireless multiplayer modes. By using the Wireless DS Single-Card Download Play feature, up to 8 players can link up with just one game card. Alternatively you can battle it out online with three other players either in the comfort of your own home using your existing Wi-Fi broadband; or in the High Street either at Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Access Points in store or at Nintendo Wi-Fi connection enabled public Wi-Fi hotspots. Never before has it been so easy to pick up a games console and challenge friends from all over the world for free!
Nintendo's unique new Friend Roster enables players to play online with their friends, all you need to do is set up a Friend Code by swapping a number with your friend, they will then be added to your Friend Roster and you can select to play with them online anytime, anywhere. Alternatively you can play with someone of a similar skill level. This is done seamlessly via Nintendo's servers through the use of a skill mapping system to ensure the environment is open to users of all ages and skill levels.
The Nintendo DS's double screens are put to perfect use in Mario Kart DS, moving certain features, such as the map onto the bottom screen, clearing the top solely for the fast paced action. Mario Kart DS also allows players to see what weapons their opponents have, thanks to a small symbol next to their faces on the lower screen. For the first time ever you will know what item to hang onto and what tricks your opponents have up their sleeves.
Following in the Mario Kart tradition, players must pick up items along the track such as power-ups which they can use to boost their own powers, mushrooms for a speed boost, a star to become invulnerable or shells, bombs and bananas to attack their opponents. Players can use these items to knock their opponents off the track and out of their way. These power ups can dramatically change the outcome of a race, so mastering these can give you the vital edge over your opponents.
Mario Kart DS provides excitement and challenges to keep players, both young and old, entertained and in the driving seat. This highly addictive, fun and fast paced racing game launches on the Nintendo DS in the UK on 25th November 2005, at the estimated retail price of around £30. Also launching on the same date is the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector which will enable players who have Broadband at home to join in the Wi-Fi fun. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will be priced at around £30.

The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed more than thirty new Nintendo DS titles, including quite a few first party ones. You can check out some screens on these new titles (including the aforementioned TINGLE RPG) at Famitsu. Without further delay, here's what titles were featured in the magazine (please note that any release dates are Japanese):
Adult Brain Training 2
Seiken Densetsu DS [Secret of Mana DS]
Rainbow Island DS (Jan 5)
Gyakuten Saiban 4 [Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney] (2006)
Tales DS
Daikoukaijidai DS
Magical Vacation: When the 5 Stars Line Up
ASH (Archaic Sealed Heat - Mistwalker RPG)
Wishroom
Kaitou Wario (Kaitou means 'Mysterious/Phantom Thief')
Custom Robo DS
English Training DS
Tingle RPG
Detect Hacker
Densetsu no Starfi 4 [Legend of Starfi 4]
Puzzloop DS
Mario Basket 3 vs 3 [Mario Basketball]
Crossword
Jigsaw Puzzle
Sudoku
Bomberman Story
SD Gundam game
Stylebook series (Bandai)
Ocha Inu no Heya
San-X Dreamland
Dangerous Jiisan
Nobunaga's Ambition DS
Dracula [New Castlevania Game]
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Tenchu
Vs. Puzzle Papi Inu Vector Wan!!
Titles of Note
Tingle RPG
The top screen shows Tingle holding a bomb with the number "9", while the bottom screen has a gigantic insect crawling around with what appears to be a big red target on it. You can also see a bomb with many little balloons attatched to it near the insect. Perhaps the game will play out similarly to the Tingle Tuner in Wind Waker, where players did not control Tingle directly?
Densetsu no Starfi 4
The fourth game in the Starfi series of games - the previous three were available for Game Boy Advance in Japan. In this game, the top screen shows the action while the touch screen displays a map. Starfi (as you may or may not have guessed) is a starfish.
Mario Basket 3 vs 3
Basketball with a Mario flavour. The top screen shows the action, the touch screen shows a layout of the court. Confirmed characters include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Bowser and Paratroopa. There are also Question Mark boxes scattered on the court, including one with coins spewing out of it. Looks like you have to hit those boxes when you have the basketball. Turtle shells are also displayed on the touch screen, suggesting Mario Kart item mischief as well. Finally, this game is Nintendo Wi-Fi compatible!
Kaitou Wario
Not sure what to make of this platform game. The top screen shows a Metroid-like map, as well as what appear to be power-ups. There's also a clock shown - could this be timed, similar to Metroid? It's definitely Wario, though - that Wario hat shown in the touch screen is enough of a clue!

Okay, here' S has binary release for my fork of partial PocketNES that supports compression of ROMs. Included are linux and Windows binaries for compression/decompression (all command-line). Want yew you, you edge rename it back to file.nes and could it under has build program. However, none of the build programs will Be whitebait to properly recognize the ROM (it' S compressed). They should Be whitebait to Be added to drank has compilation. Regardless, you edge uses npc files under Pogoshell by simply adding has line for npc (gold again, simple rename the npc files to nes).
Please notes, state saves from previous versions of PocketNES will not work with this version. There' S No way to C has conversion, sadly. Please carryforward any problems you cuts with it here.

Long-term Nintendo fans might remember a time when news of the company's big name franchises missing their release date came more frequently than a nymphomaniac sat on the spin cycle. So, in many ways, it's like being back in the good old days, what with Zelda: The Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Hunters and now Mario Kart DS slipping back unexpectedly.
No need to jump off that multi-storey car park roof just yet though - Mario Kart DS is only skulking back in Europe, and it's only going to be two weeks late. It's now due out on November 25 rather than the previously touted November 11.
Although Nintendo's not revealed any particular reason for the delay, we'd hazard a guess that it's probably been set back to allow for some last minute tweaks to the company's European Wi-fi Connection service, which Jim Merrick was adament would be launching at the same time as the game when we interviewed him recently

It was odd to think that there was a time when Nintendo didn't rule the portable world. When the original giant grey Tetris machine came out, we all bought one and fell in love. Sure it was pea green and it blurred to hell and back when a game scrolled, but it was ours. We couldn't get the Tetris tune out of our head. We bought every Mario game that came out for it. Pretenders came and went—the Game Gear, the TurboGrafx. They had color, they had nice screens, and they didn't last.
Then the updates began. First the Game Boy Pocket. Then the color, then the Game Boy Advance. Then came the Game Boy SP, and the brighter screen. I remember buying them all when they came out, and each one was slightly better than the last. Maybe not enough for an upgrade for most people, but at least Nintendo never rested on its laurels. They kept making the systems better and better, until the original grayscale blurry system was all but unrecognizable.
Now they face a challenge though. Sony's PSP is incredible looking and challenging Nintendo's supremacy in portable gaming. With the iPod, Apple redefined consumer electronic chic. The Game Boy was a ton of things, but it was never sexy. With the Game Boy Micro Nintendo wants to give us what Apple gave us. They wanted to sex up the Game Boy line.
Beauty is only cardboard deep
The new way of thinking is first evident in the packaging. This looks nothing like what we're used to for videogame system packaging. For one, you can see the unit through the plastic. It looks like it was meant to hang in upscale electronics stores, not the back wall of a chain video game store. The packaging is sleek and it grabs the eye. You also clearly see the two face plates you get with the system. The whole thing doesn't feel like a video game product, which is I think a win for Nintendo. They want to get you looking at it even if you've never had your eye caught by a portable video game system before. Yet another box wouldn't do that, and this accomplishes everything they set out to do.
Some nice packaging from Nintendo
When you open it up you see everything the unit comes with. Lately, I've been impressed with what Nintendo includes with its systems, but this is kind of a letdown. You get the unit, two faceplates, the charger, a tool to help you pop out the faceplates, and a small sock to keep it in. Its not exactly a bad spread, but I would have liked to have had a neck strap or at least a wrist strap. The system is designed almost to be worn as much as played, and having to buy that sort of thing separately was a pain in the ass. C'mon Nintendo, give us a necklace.

Final Fantasy III is being remade in 3D for the DS in 2006. FF V and VI will arrive on the GBA next year as well, following the GBA release of FF IV on December 12 of this year.
This will result in all pre-PlayStation Final Fantasy titles being made available on a Nintendo portable by the end of 2006.

Nintendo has unveiled the new Wi-Fi USB connector that will allow DS owners to take their handheld online if they don't already have a wireless Internet connection.
The USB connector will go on sale in Europe on November 25 - the same date as online enabled title Mario Kart DS - priced £30.
Once it's inserted into a USB port on a PC, a window is opened to establish a link between the DS, computer and Internet. The user must then complete a three-step on the DS to get connected. The connector will not work with Macs as Nintendo is only supporting Windows at present.
As previously announced, DS owners will be able to construct a Friends list but no usernames or passwords will be used. Instead, gamers will be able to swap 12 digit "Friend Codes" to add each other to their lists. There will also be an option to play with a random opponent selected by the Nintendo servers according to skill level to ensure an evenly matched game.
The USB connector was unveiled at the DS Conference 2005 in Japan, where three new titles for the handheld were also announced.
Eigo Zuke teaches Japanese speakers how to write and speak English using the DS's touch screen and microphone. Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training is the sequel to the chart topping Brain Training, and will be in the shops by Christmas. Daredemo Asobi Taikai is a collection of more than 40 popular board games, with game sharing and wireless support for up to eight players. So far all three games are down for a Japanese release only.

You’ve been hearing about it for weeks… well it’s finally here! To celebrate the UK arrival of Nintendogs, the hugely anticipated virtual puppy phenomenon - HMV’s famous mascot Nipper the Jack Russell will be throwing the doors open for the very first time to shoppers AND their dogs! Taking place at HMV’s flagship store - at 150 Oxford Street on Friday 7th October, 8am - the launch of Nintendogs signals the end of a very long wait for shoppers pining for ‘the next big thing for Christmas’.
On sale across the UK from Friday, gamers, dog lovers and kids alike will be able to get hold of a copy of Nintendogs before anyone else in the country. In addition, the first 50 people (or dogs!) reaching the till will get another free Nintendog from a choice of three breeds plus an exclusive doggy bag including free Nintendogs treats and another free Nintendo DS game!
The Nintendogs arrival at HMV is the stores’ first ever early morning launch and the first time dogs have been allowed in store - breaking the tradition of midnight store openings to open its doors to pooches across the capital taking their breakfast time walk.
Tim Ellis, HMV Head of Games, commented: "There's been a real buzz around this release for some time now and many of our stores have been inundated with customer enquiries. It has wide player appeal, which will make it a perfect gift item and a big seller for us all the way through to Christmas.
"HMV feels a natural affinity towards this title given that our own company mascot is Nipper the dog. Call us 'barking mad', but we're really excited about hosting the official Nintendogs UK launch at our Oxford Street Games Department on October 7th, when Nipper will be joined in-store by lots of his canine friends."

Source - Gamespot
Last week, Piper Jaffray analysts Anthony Gikas and Stephanie Wissinck released a report with some surprising forecasts for the gaming industry, not the least of which included a prediction that the Revolution's sales wouldn't live up to its name and the expectation of a new hard-drive-equipped model of the PSP to hit shelves next year.
Today, GameSpot caught up with Gikas for a bit of explanation on his analysis, starting with the forecast that the Revolution would have no significant impact (positive or negative) on Nintendo's place in the console market through 2008.
"As a starting point, that's essentially what we're looking at," Gikas said. "Nintendo will have the same 15 percent plus or minus market share."
As shocking as the Revolution controller might have been for many gamers, Gikas didn't think it would substantially affect Nintendo's fate in its first couple of years of release. "I don't think that the controller's a big enough deal that it's changing [Nintendo's] place in the market," Gikas said.
As for the hard-drive-equipped PSP, Gikas considers it a natural choice for Sony for a couple of reasons. "If it really is going to be a multidimensional entertainment device," Gikas said, "it's going to need a hard drive so you can store greater amounts of data in it."
Beyond fulfilling the company's vision for the handheld gaming gadget, a hard-drive-equipped PSP would also let Sony reprice the hardware (possibly selling the base PSP for $199 and the new model for the original price point of $250) and stem the losses that come from regular price cuts on gaming platforms. It's a tactic Gikas said he expects to see from more console makers in the future.
"They're not making much money on these hardware devices to begin with, and to the extent that [systems] go historically from $300 to $200 to $150 to $99 to $79, you're just losing more and more money as the cycle progresses," Gikas said. "I think you're going to see smaller upgrades to these hardware devices as we move into this next cycle, and that will give the hardware guys an opportunity to reprice and keep those price points higher."
While multiple hardware configurations and upgrades have failed in the past (from the Sega 32X to the PlayStation 2 hard drive), the trend of regular hardware upgrades doesn't necessarily mean developers and publishers have to worry about which particular system configurations their customers might be using.
"There are things you can do to the box along the way that don't disrupt the development process for the publishers," Gikas said. "I'm not talking about a change to the underlying technology of the box itself. There are ways to upgrade that box that really don't interfere with anything the publishers are doing."
For instance, if Microsoft were to unveil an Xbox 360 model in the future with a larger hard drive or a high-definition DVD drive, publishers wouldn't have to worry about whether gamers had a 20-gig or a 50-gig hard drive. And as for upgrades that would impact the core functionality of a system, Gikas says there's just no call for them in the first years of a system's life span.
"For this first round of games on the Xbox 360, the publishers are only going to be utilizing half of the technology of that box," Gikas said. "It takes a couple generations of these products for the publishers to really ramp up to utilize the full potential of the technology of these systems."
Finally, Gikas expounded a bit on the growth of nontraditional software markets composed of in-game advertising, direct console downloads, and mobile gaming.
"We do project that [combined] market at about $900 million in 2007, so when you add that on top of the almost 9 billion in software from console, handheld, and PC, it's a big chunk. All of a sudden it's 10 percent of the industry in 2007."
That would make those nontraditional markets bigger than PC gaming by 2007. But while Gikas fully expects that sector to experience significant growth, the markets are so new and so small as yet that he expects that individual projections for all three of them will change dramatically in coming years.
"The point is there are real dollars there, they're coming, and they're coming over the next few years," Gikas said.

News from Lik Sang
Set just a year after the events of Aria of Sorrow on Gameboy Advance, where a cult decided to resurrect the fallen Dracula and the evil that follows, the legendary Castlevania series continues, this time showing the incredible sprite pushing 2D power of the NDS. As either Soma Cruz or later Julius Belmont or Yoko, each with their own individual gameplay styles, you must infiltrate enemy territory and stop the evil of Dracula's resurrection from happening. The upper screen displays a map and character data, while the lower view is where the full on action you can see in the trailer below goes. The touch screen also comes into play with a new ability where gamers can "shatter" weak bricks with their finger or stylus, or learn and draw magical seals to defeat enemy creatures.
Further making use of the NDS, there's two different wireless modes, the first of which lets you trade soul abilities between systems. The second is a multiplayer versus mode, where one gamer builds a level by filling areas of the castle with their enemies of choice, and then race each other through it. With multiple endings, both good and bad, and gameplay additions like Weapon Synthesis mode, where Yoko will combine your weapon with a soul to create new items, get ready to sink your teeth into another Castlevania classic, due in stock this week.
