In a interview with CNBC today, analyst Evan Wilson declares Wii the early next-gen console victor. But the report appears more concerned with the possible implications for publisher stocks rather than just Nintendo's.
Wilson believes game makers who have formed early partnerships with Nintendo via Wii can look forward to a banner year, one he says will be the fastest growing in a long time. He predicts THQ and Activision as big winners for their early commitment to the motion-sensing platform with no mention of Ubisoft.
So what about EA, the world's largest games publisher with 25% of the market? The analyst thinks the company will get left behind in 2007 for not scheduling more upcoming Wii games and because their hardcore games don't appeal as much to Wii's desired non-gamer audience. Also, after calling the PS3 a "disappointment" to an investor audience, he's wary on both EA and Take 2 stock for their strong support of the PS3. Not only is Sony getting some bad press now, so are any publishers aligned with its console, at least from one analyst.

Each year, NCL gives a gift to Platinum members of Japan's Club Nintendo (Platinum members can be spotted by their metallic coating as it shines in the winter sun -- and by their Club Nintendo accounts, which tally more than 400 points amassed during the previous calendar year). This year's prizes are especially funky. Shiny members may choose one item from a list (of two):
a Wii remote battery flap on which Nintendo will print the owner's Mii image (Miis should be sent to Nintendo through Wii Connect before February)
a copy of Club-exclusive DS title Tingle's Balloon Fight
Both items will be delivered in the spring, with the customized Wii remote plastic scheduled for production and delivery all the way through to August 31. We opted for the Mii gift, because we're so vain.
Feel free to commence the vitriolic "Why don't we get that stuff here?" comments --NoA isn't listening.

The ESRB has given Contra 3: The Alien Wars an E10+ rating for the Wii which may indicate that the Konami classic shooter is heading to the Virtual Console soon. The only announced titles due to hit the channel on New Year's Day are Urban Champion and Baseball, so there appears to be some room left in the line-up.
Keep in mind, though, that many ESRB rated titles are currently not yet available for the service, including Gradius, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out!! and Pro Wrestling. But with two Nintendo published titles already planned, I suspect we'll see a handful of third party games slip out.
Bring on that SNES love!

news via computerworld
Sales of both the PlayStation 3 and Wii consoles jumped in Japan during the second week of December thanks to greater supplies of the consoles from their respective manufacturers.
Nintendo's Wii was the best-selling console for the week at 108,237 units, according to figures from Media Create. The retail market data provider ranked Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3 in second place among consoles at 70,942 units and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in third at 17,168 units.
The figures mean both the new consoles recorded their best week of sales in Japan yet, with the exception of the launch weeks.
Among software sales games for the Wii easily outranked those for the PlayStation 3. Two games, "Wii Sports" and "Pokemon Battle Revolution" made it into the top-ten with sales of 69,923 units and 67,607 units, respectively, for the week. The best-selling PlayStation 3 title was ranked at number 35 in the chart, which is dominated by games for the Nintendo DS handheld and PlayStation 2.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 saw sales drop during the week but they were still relatively good for the year-old machine. During the week, sales of the machine totalled 17,168, says Media Create. That's about half the amount sold the week earlier but well above sales recorded in November. Over 35,000 Xbox 360 consoles were sold in the week from December 4 to 10 thanks to the launch of the Blue Dragon video game.
The game was created by a famous Japanese games developer and had been eagerly awaited in Japan. To push sales of the console Microsoft created a special edition with Blue Dragon face plate and copy of the game bundled with the core edition console for the same price as the console usually sells.

Oh yeah you heard right, Lemmings has arrived on the DS in another excellent release for the Nintendo DS Homebrew Scene.
Heres all the info from the official site
Well folks, it’s been tough, but I think it’s finally ready…
Today, I present to you:
Lemmings DS v3, an open-source port of the Lemmings game engine for the Nintendo DS, written in C++. (Based off the Amiga version.)
Lemmings DS Builder v3, an open-source Lemmings DS level editor for Windows, written using the Allegro library.
Lemmings DS Custom Level Utility, an open-source utility for attaching levels to a Lemmings DS Rom so they can be played on hardware.
These, and their associated source code, can all be found in the LemProject Downloads section in the panel to the right.
I’m afraid I can’t offer you all of the original Lemmings levels yet (they’re not even slightly compatible), but you’ve got everything you need to start making your own levels. I’ve begun writing some documentation in the LemProject Documentation. Head to the MrDictionary.net forum to share your created levels with other Lemmings players, and to discuss additions and revisions to the code!
