Vaan is 18 years old in the game, and has just fulfilled his dream of getting his own plane. He keeps himself free of politics and family life and travels the skies as an air pirate. The 17-year-old Panelo serves as his navigator.

Nintendo Co.'s Nintendo DS swept Japan sales charts to outsell new console offerings in the territory.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the DS sold 319,708 units from Dec. 11 to Dec. 17. The number of units sold is nearly three times the closest hardware competitor, Nintendo's Wii console.
In addition, the DS ranked seven titles in top ten software sales in the same period. Leading the charts are Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. Incumbent action game New Super Mario. Bros continues an impressive run at No. 6.
The Nintendo DS is the best-selling handheld hardware in global markets at over 21 million units sold. The touch-screen handheld was the No. 1 selling hardware in the U.S. in Nov. and continues to sell out in retail stores due to holiday demand.
New titles for the DS include Elite Beat Agents, Yoshi's Island DS, and Final Fantasy III.

The announcement that the Nintendo Wii game machine which allows players to use a remote control device to play games on their TV will get the Opera browser is very big news.
If you've ever tried to access your email on a hotel tv which had built-in Internet access you know what a pain that can be. But with an easy to use remote, rather than a cordless keyboard, access becomes far more comfortable and natural, especially to gamers in whose hands the future of high tech rests.
The browser on Wii also puts yet another obstacle in the way of Microsoft's strategy to become the center of the universe in the family room.
Yes, you can browse the Web with Xbox if you are technical genius and can figure it out. But it takes a consumer electronics company like Nintendo to make it simple.
In the battle for dominance in the home, PC versus TV, or who controls the home entertainment center, this is yet another example of how the TV will reign supreme.
Apple had a better chance than Microsoft at dominance but at the end of the day I would put my money on the consumer electronics companies.
After all didn't Comdex, the giant computer show of yesteryear disappear while the Consumer Electronics show is bigger than ever.
Of course, the TV of the future will have processors built in, along with Wi-Fi and maybe a VoIP phone hanging off the side [I'm speaking figuratively here] with a video VoIP call displayed on the screen.
On the inside it won't look like your father's TV. But on the outside it will look just about the same.
And we won't call it, HD TV, or flat panel TV or a Computer TV, we will just call it TV.

For those just waking up, Woot.com landed a bunch of 20GB PS3s for today's Woot. (They sold out within minutes, so don't even try). It is apparent which console is preferred by the Woot folks by checking out the "alternate views" of the PS3. Nice construction!

Better than GC-GBA connectivity? We hope so.
Speaking with MCV, James Honeywell, DS Product Manager, shed some light on the future of DS/Wii connectivity:
"You will definitely see Wii and DS interoperability as soon as we have it finished,' said Honeywell. 'We haven't made any announcements over specific software for connectivity, but there are definitely a number of exciting things in creation which we want to bring to market as soon as possible. We're hopeful that will be next year."
"For example, the connectivity between Xbox 360 and PC is very much based in streaming video and other media. The link-up between Wii and DS will be much more about offering new forms of gameplay, fun and interaction. It will offer yet another new set of experiences for the whole family."
This comes after Nintendo introduced connectivity into Pokemon Battle Revolution. Is it possible we could see connectivity in future Mario and Metroid titles? Only time will tell.

via IGN
If, like us, you're planning on spending as little time as possible outside in the freezing cold over the festive period, then you'll probably be wondering what on earth you can do to keep yourself occupied in between the questionable feast of mystery meat pies and television specials.
Well friends, wonder no more. Might we point you in the general direction of the Wii Virtual Console, which enjoys yet more additions to its rapidly burgeoning library of videogames classics today. If it's the retro of the, uh, retroiest you're after, then Nintendo's latest NES offerings number Donkey Kong Jr., Soccer and Tennis. If it's a grab bag of 16-bitness you want though, today sees the arrival of Space Harrier II and Toe Jam & Earl on Mega Drive, alongside Military Madness, courtesy of the TurboGrafx. Click the links for some IGN review goodness.
Looking ahead to next week though when i) we won't be here so you'll have to fend for yourselves and ii) we'll be so sick of seasonal jollity we'll want to hole ourselves up in a dark room until it all goes away, there's a bumper roster of bonafide classics on the way come Friday. While NES offerings aren't much to shout about - hello Baseball and Ice Hockey - TurboGrafx fans can grapple around with R-TYPE. Most exciting of all though, next Friday's SNES offerings include SimCity, Super Probotector and the utterly sublime Super Castlevania IV.
So, while IGN UK stands alone in a barren field of neglect, stock up on those Wii Points and spent some quality time with the distant past. We'll be suitably rejuvenated and ready to get stuck into 2007 after that - who knows what delights Nintendo has in store for the New Year?

After downloading a 26mb file, which will use up 230 blocks on your wii, the browser channel will show up in your wii menu.
Once you launch it you are presented with a window where you can type in any url, or navigate to your favorites.
Controller Buttons:
You can get to the favorites page by pressing the 1 button on the wii-mote.
The 2 button on the wiimote puts the browser into a large text viewing mode. it reformats the pages so that it is readable and fits on the tv.
The browser supports Flash. It is a version of Flash player 7, and it supports sendAndLoad(). This means lots of fun client/server flash applications can be developed.
Both YouTube and Google Video play on the Wii Web Browser Internet Channel.

It was only a matter of time. We bow our heads in a moment of silence for the first Nintendo Wii fatality. Is this a wakeup call to the industry? DO YOU HEAR THE CALL?
Seriously, they joke on the site that Fox News will see this and think its real. We're pretty sure that somewhere, somehow, someone is already believing it. Wait for the backlash to hit, probably spearheaded by everyone's favorite political gamehater, He Who Shall Not Be Named. In fact, let's declare a moratorium on him in the news, unless something spectacular happens, for all of 2007.

Nintendo has dismissed French reports that Wii Sports 2 is already in development as "pure rumour and speculation".
NGC France had reported that a second title may well be in development, perhaps even with swimming, basketball and other sports included.
The first title comes free with the Wii in both the US and Europe, while early sales figures in Japan, where it is sold separately, had it as the console's most popular title.
"We're really pleased with the reaction to Wii Sports - from people completely new to gaming to the hardcore fans everyone has taken to it straight away," a Nintendo UK spokesperson commented.
"It might just be the most popular game this Christmas in homes across the UK."
In other words, they may not be talking about a sequel yet, but with online gaming still to come to Wii and the first game's popularity already significant, don't be surprised if the tune changes in future.

Opera has unleashed a free trial version of its internet browser for you to download to your shiny new Wii, with the full version currently scheduled for late March 2007.
The download takes full advantage of the wavy Remote, allowing simple browsing by pointing the controller at the screen.
We'll let Ninty's Big Reggie Fils-Aime fill you in with the details: "Opera on Wii adds a new dimension and functionality to a video game console system. It's a unique Web experience that everyone can use, and the Intelligent Zoom feature allows consumers to read Web content on the TV from the comfort of their couch."
Opera has even knocked together a short cartoon letting you know how to use the simple software, which is available from the Wii Shopping Channel.
We've been told that if you don't download it free by June 30, 2007 you can expect to spend 500 Wii points, so take a break from accidentally hitting grandma in the face whilst playing Wii Tennis and have a crack at Opera while it's available.

Think all those headlines about the Wii Remote's wrist straps are going to go away? No chance. If anything they'll be back with a vengeance after Christmas Day once all the kids who managed to get a Wii for Xmas have fired up their consoles in front of the family. Forget Bond...
Not. Long. Now. Only a few more days before parents who have never played games before, OAPs who still don't know what they are, and you kid sister who doesn't recognise the fact that things do break get hold of Nintendo Wii.
There's going to be carnage up and down the country this Christmas as those non-gamers' Nintendo wants to bring into the field get a hold of the Wii Remote and start swinging for England.
. We're sure many more are on their way. If you see one, post the link in the comment thread below for us all to laugh at.

Ingenieria Inversa have today released an unscrambler tool for the Wii/gamecube, on their site they have posted a ton of info about disk layouts etc but to most of you and me it means bugger all and thats not to mention that theres no way at the mo to read Wii Discs in the raw format needed for the unscrambler.
Another tool that will hopefully lead to an homebrew exploit, (lets hope so)
