Not "new" as in new, just improvements on the existing one. So says German news site Gamefront, citing Japanese source Game Lab (edited for babelfish clarity):
The revised remote maintenance is to...possess a better pavement grip and [is] rechargeable
So a better grip and a rechargeable battery? That'd be swell, Nintendo, since Twilight Princess eats batteries like they were yummy cakes. Still, this is fairly tenuous, so take your grain of salt and keep those fingers crossed.

Don't let Mario's overalls fool you, Nintendo likes money just as the next console maker. No surprises there — Memories do come flooding back to when Nintendo announced Wii pricing and many flipped out at parting with US $250 as opposed to the rumored $199. Newsweek's got a piece up on the Wii about demand for the machine, the radio contest fiasco and a few blurbs from Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan. Regarding the contest, Kaplan offered her condolences and stressed that Nintendo had nothing to do with it. Regarding the shortages, she said:
We produce a healthy number, with more shipments coming weekly. We're not sure what more we could have done to meet such overwhelming demand... We try to minimize that [airlifting in consoles as Sony did with the PS3], as air is costly. We're a profit-oriented company.
Yup, that you are. And turning a pretty penny from what we hear!

Electronic Arts is to repackage five of the most popular titles from casual gaming site Pogo.com for release on the Nintendo DS.
Word Whomp, Poppit, Phlinx, Tri-Peaks Solitaire and Squelchies will feature in the package, due for release this March.
"Million of people have been captivated by these simple, yet addictive casual games," said Kevin Chorney, producer for Pogo Island.
"We're so excited to finally bring the online experience to players on the go," he added.
EA bought Pogo.com in 2001, and the site currently enjoys an average of 2.6 million users per day.

If your built-in WiFi antenna is less than phenomenal, or you're just looking to jack some WiFi from another country to avoid severe punishment, Buffalo's AirStation WLI-U2-SG54HP might be the answer. This USB 2.0 stick adapter operates like any vanilla 802.11b/g wireless LAN adornment, but ups the ante by suctioning to the rear of your display and reportedly boosting your reception capability by 210-percent. Granted, we're not sure where the firm is deriving this lofty figure, but it's probably safe to assume that strapping a relatively large antenna on the back of your lappie will persuade a few more far away signals to come your way than your factory-installed alternative. So if you're looking for a way to extend that range (legally), or just enjoy having a tethered weapon at your disposal at all times, Buffalo's WLI-U2-SG54HP can be snapped up next month for ¥3,700 ($31)

The GameCube version of Super Paper Mario will never see the light of day, as Nintendo officially confirms to CVG that Mario's retro-style platformer is Wii exclusive.
The platform shift has been public knowledge for a while, but with an official announcement yet to made by Nintendo, many pondered the possibility it might make it to both platforms, like Twilight Princess. Alas, that is not the case.
On the plus side, Super Paper Mario on Wii could be in stores as soon as April according to US official Nintendo magazine, Nintendo Power.
New control details were also revealed, uncovering that the Wii Remote is held sideways to play the old-school platformer, with jump on the 2 button. The A button switches the perspective of the gameplay from a side-on 2D view to 3D, and you can earn extra points by shaking the Remote when jumping on enemies.
If SPM is to hit stores in April, we should be getting our hands on a preview version soon, so keep an eye out.

Nintendo has said nothing regarding the release of Wii Ethernet kits since CVG confirmed their existence way back in October. But after months of silence, the kits are finally on their way and could be in stores within weeks.
Reports of a Taiwan-based company, Axis Electronics, having already started to ship the adaptors leads us to believe that, despite Nintendo's silence, they will be available for sale very soon.
CVG revealed that the planned USB-to-Ethernet kit would allow those who lack a wireless internet router to connect the Wii to the web using the console's USB ports instead.
It is not known whether Axis Electronics is making the official Nintendo adaptors or a third-party version, but we've put the call in to Nintendo to get confirmation and a release date. Updates will land here when we get them.

Big publishers have been wary of creating new titles for the Nintendo Wii due to the perception that first-party titles are better supported than third-party games, says Brian Dreyer, business development manager for Frontline Studios.
The trepidation of companies to support the console and its motion sensitive controller has left a gap in the market that independent studios have been wise to exploit, claims Dreyer
"Nintendo hardware is traditionally seen as great for first-party titles, but not so much for third-party games," said Dreyer, speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz
"That fact really scares a lot of publishers and frankly we've seen a lot of publishers take that wait-and-see attitude with the Wii," commented Dreyer. "Rightly or wrongly, publishers are more frustrated with that than independent developers are."
While publishers such as Ubisoft and Sega have supported the Wii since launch, others, such as Capcom, are yet to get boxed product to market.
Frontline is currently working with Digital Amigos and Nibris on the Wii project Sadness. For the developer, the attraction of working on Nintendo hardware is the innovative elements of the console that provide a different approach to game development.
"It's the marketing warfare," said Dreyer. "Nintendo is the challenger, it's the underdog and it has to be coming to market with something that is completely different."
"Gamers are yawning at these supposedly great-looking games on other systems. With the Wii, we're back to the fundamentals, the nuts and bolts of any videogames experience, which simply means it has to be fun,"

Nintendo has revealed the next wave of titles for the Nintendo Wii, as well as the launch date of the News Channel.
Previously unavailable in North America, the first-party developed title Wii Play is due for release in the region next month, complete with a bundled Wii remote controller.
March sees the release of three titles from Ubisoft, recently revealed to be the number one third-party Wii publisher in Europe and the US. Prince of Persia: Rival Swords, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII are all due from the French publisher.
Electronic Arts has four titles due in the first quarter. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, SSX Blur, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Medal of Honor: Vanguard are all Wii-specific versions of popular EA franchises.
Other titles due include BVG's Disney's Meet the Robinsons, Majesco's Bust-A-Move Bash, Eidos' Bionicle Heroes and Sega's Sonic and the Secret Rings Saga.
"Our tremendous worldwide launch shows people, from experienced players to non-players, are hungry for the kinds of entertainment only Wii provides," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
"Wii hardware production continues full bore, and every week we're delivering more incredible content to further expand the experience."
The company also revealed that the Wii News Channel will go live on January 27, with content provided by the Associated Press.

The Tom Clancy franchise and new Wii title Red Steel has helped Ubisoft exceed expectations for the third quarter, with sales rising 24 per cent to EUR 311 million.
Total sales for the nine months to December 31 were up 22 per cent to EUR 483 million.
The publisher singled out the performance of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas and new Wii IP Red Steel, resulting in sales of EUR 16 million in Q3.
Next-gen titles accounted for 63 per cent of sales in the third quarter, up from 18 per cent in the previous year.
"We saw excellent sales for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas - which ranked as the third best-seller in December for the Xbox 360 system in the United States - as well as sustained success for Red Steel and Rayman, which have ranked number two and three in sales for the Wii in the US and Europe since the console launched," said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.
The decision to support the Wii with a large portfolio of titles in its first months of release has resulted in 21 per cent of sales for the third quarter, making Ubisoft the number one third-party Wii publisher in North America and Europe.
Ubisoft now has a market share of 29.2 per cent in Europe and 18 per cent in the US on Wii software.
Xbox 360 titles accounted for 28 per cent of sales, making the publisher the number two third-party publisher on the format in the US and Europe. The publisher has a market share in Europe and the US of 14.6 per cent and 13.4 per cent, respectively, for Xbox 360 titles.
Nintendo DS titles accounted for 9 per cent of sales in Q3, up from 5 per cent over the previous year.
Ubisoft is now expecting quarter four sales to reach EUR 152 million, up from last year's EUR 144 million.
"2007 will be the year of the next-generation consoles, with the ramp-up of the PS3 and Xbox 360 systems," said Guillemot.
"We will also see new consumers - particularly women - entering the market, drawn by the remarkable success of the Wii and the Nintendo DS. In 2007-08, Ubisoft will apply all of its expertise in order to leverage this full scope of opportunities, and thereby step up growth and considerably improve profitability."
Ubisoft's first-person shooter Haze, developed by Free Radical Design, will now be released in the fourth quarter, along with three new Wii titles.

Nintendo of America revealed on Tuesday that it would make Mario Kart 64 available to the Wii Shopping Channel next week. The acclaimed racer marks the second N64 title released for the Virtual Console.
Mario Kart 64 pits players in control of classic racers and challenges them to navigate a series of twisting, turning environments while using special power-ups. The title's single-player mode was fun, but the game will always be remembered for its addictive multiplayer offering -- IGN's own editors spent too many hours to count battling in some of its many arenas.

Today Warner Bros. announced that it will be publishing Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal in fall 2007 for the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
Developed by Redtribe, Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal is an action-adventure game featuring a slew of playable Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tazmanian Devil, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Gossamer and a special secret character.
"LOONEY TUNES: ACME ARSENAL is updating the classic characters in engaging ways that will appeal to new generations of fans as well as the loyal fans of these enormously popular cartoons," said Jason Hall of Warner Bros. "The game captures the great irreverence of the Looney Tunes' humor and allows players to take the characters where they have never gone before with next-generation gameplay and graphics."
The game features one or two player co-operative gameplay as gamers find themselves immersed in fast-paced combat, puzzle solving challenges, and vehicle-based action. Players will command an arsenal of various ACME melee and projectile weapons, and travel to outlandish locales inspired by classic Looney Tunes cartoons.
The Xbox 360 version will feature support for two-player cooperative gameplay over Xbox Live. On the Wii version, players will be able to take full advantage of gesture-based controls in different action sequences.

News of the work on the Spectrum emulator for the DS by CraigT
It’s been a busy week.
In my last post I explained how I had changed the display routines to speed up SpeccyDS and allow me to do some more interesting stuff with the screen. Over the last week I’ve used this to hook up proper border emulation:

The first screenshot is the result of a BASIC Save command and demonstrates the border quite well. The second shot demonstrates the scaling problems that are associated with displaying the borders on such a small screen.
Luckily, the DS hardware makes screen scaling very simple. Therefore, I will probably add three border settings - None (default), Thin and Full. The thin border should keep the distortion down to a minimum.
A few other things have changed, including:
- The Z80 loader has been fixed. All 48k-based .Z80 files should now be accepted without causing the Spectrum to reset
- Simulated the resistor connection between the EAR and MIC ports on the spectrum. Sound is now produced when using the BASIC save command etc
- Fixed the flags on the DAA instruction to fix Head Over Heals. However, the sound still cuts out in some rooms
- Fixed the crash in Starquake (yay!). It was caused by a silly bug in the HALT instruction
Next up is DLDI support…
I’ve also added a Donate tab at the top of the blog. Developing SpeccyDS takes up a large amount of my free time. If you are feeling generous, please show your appreciation by donating a few pounds towards the project. Any amount is gratefully received! Thank you

News from JimmyL
No new features, just a near-complete reskinning of the game by Chris Hildenbrand. I'd been sitting on these new graphics for far too long, so I've finally taken the time this weekend to put most of them into the game. As always, if anyone wants me to add in any of their favorite game sets, just leave a message in the forums.

While we've seen some gameplay screens before from FFXII: Revenant Wings, some of these are at least bigger, if not better. High quality shots seem to be hard to come by, but Japanese print magazines have been the biggest resource thus far on this game. Once you accept a little graininess, however, these look pretty great.

In a recent Q&A with GamePro, Reggie Fils-Aime pointed to the DS, and not the GameCube, as the real inspiration as most of Nintendo's strategy with the Wii. That doesn't mean that multicolored units are around the corner (unfortunately), but it does mean that we can expect a lot of aggressive marketing to people that aren't usually considered gamers. Considering the incredible sales numbers, that's certainly worked well for the DS! As the core group responsible for the DS and its success, it's like that others will, in the future, try to mimic that. So, DS gamers -- do you think that what's working for Nintendo may work for others in the future?

A New update from Lazyone:
I am in the process of re-porting Mini vMac to the Nintendo DS mainly for cleaner source code and to fix a few bugs.
The next release will have some new features:
+ Better looking and more helpful error messages
+ Load disks at any point during runtime
+ Option to keep the support files in a “vMac” directory
+ Better looking and more usable user interface
+ Slight speedup
If there are any other ideas, please feel free to mention them.

Taito’s Densha de Go (Let’s Go by Train) is a train simulator that was introduced in Japan over ten years ago. The games have mainly come out for Sony consoles except for a Dreamcast and Nintendo 64 release. Now the series is returning to Nintendo with Densha de Go! Shinkansen EX: Sanyou Shinkansen Hen. Like all of the other Densha de Go games there is a special controller that mimics the set up a train controller would use. You can pick up Densha de Go with the special Wii controller in a package for 10,479 yen ($86). Or you can buy the controller alone for 6,090 yen ($50). It’s a pricey accessory, but you don’t have to have it to play Densha de Go on the Wii. There is a new control set up where players shake the Wii remote to make the train accelerate. Since the control scheme has been simplified, Densha de Go! Shinkansen EX: Sanyou Shinkansen Hen could be a good game for first time conductors.
