Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is coming to Wii, complete with the series' trademark grotesque battling action, and these shots show you just how the gruesome fighter will offer motion-sensitive violence for Wii-mote clutching gamers. Hit the images tab for more, including a full sequence.
All of the game's special moves and fatalities are controlled by gestures, as you can see in the shots, but Midway has kindly included the option to play with either the GameCube pad or Classic Controller too. Finally, alongside a Kreate-a-Fighter (they missed a trick with 'Kharacter' there, surely) mode, there's also a Wii-exclusive Endurance mode to battle through.

For years, Nintendo consoles have had a reputation for being the most family-friendly. The Mario factory attempted to change this image on the GameCube by nuturing a few extremely violent games, such as Eternal Darkness, Killer7, and Resident Evil 4, GameSpot's 2005 Game of the Year. When the Wii was released last year, Ubisoft's Red Steel was the token grown-up game, and sold well despite poor reviews. According to NPD, the game moved over 219,000 copies as of December 2006.
Insert "little friend" and/or "Wii" joke here.
Despite rumors of a Wii Grand Theft Auto, the highest-profile adult actioner on the platform's horizon was The Godfather: The Blackhand Edition. Now, though, it appears the adaptation of the 1972 epic will be joined by the game version of another crime-cinema classic. The cover of this month's British Nintendo magazine N-Gamer clearly shows that Vivendi Games is bringing Scarface: The World is Yours to the Wii. The game was released last year for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. An Xbox 360 version was also planned but was canceled just as a PSP spin-off was announced.
According to the magazine, the Wii Scarface will have a control scheme similar to Red Steel. Players will point the Wii remote at the screen like a gun to control an aiming reticule to target opponents. The magazine also promises to use the so-called "Wiimote" for melee combat with the film's infamous chainsaw. According to N-Gamer, players will be able to sever legs and heads, and will hear the sound of the chainsaw emit from the Wiimote's built-in speaker.
No release date--UK, US, or otherwise--was available as of press time. When contacted by GameSpot, all a Vivendi rep would say is that more news was "coming soon."

No-doubt trying to tap into the success of Nintendo's Brain Training, Midway Games have unveiled Hot Brain, a compilation of puzzles and brain-teasers for PSP.
Also shown at the Las Vegas gamers day event is Touchmaster, a Nintendo DS compilation of 23 of Midway's bar and arcade titles, including Sudoku, Solitaire and Mah Jongg.
"With both Touchmaster DS for Nintendo DS and Hot Brain for PSP, we're able to tap into our experience with the casual market to create games that work perfectly with the unique controls and features of each portable system," said Steve Allison, Midway's chief marketing officer, at the Vegas event. "Both titles will be able to provide quick three-minute gameplay experiences or extended play-session with puzzles, card games, brain teasers, trivia and more."
Both Hot Brain and Touchmaster are due out this summer.

I hate to admit this, but 1up's Jeremy Parish is way cooler than I am. It's really depressing to think about. Well, okay, maybe he just took the time to register far more Wii friend codes than I ever would. So maybe that makes me cooler; I don't know. It's all so very confusing.
In either case, this video of 1007 Miis marching in a Mii Parade is demonstration of one extremely impressive feat. I've yet to see more than 15 Miis gather on my Wii; they're lonely and scared. Jeremy -- won't you lend me some of your Miis?

Over the years, so many development teams have tried to capture the same magic that Tetris had in its debut, simply by copying the formula and shifting things around to create their own design. Namco Bandai's giving the genre another shot on the Nintendo DS (Pac Attack was one of the company's first attempts), this one putting heavy emphasis on combo strings. And sometimes, the best part of an action puzzler is managing to string together some truly awesome combos.
Trioncube is a very simple, Tetris-esque concept where the task is to rotate and stack falling blocks to form three-by-three squares of tiles. Doing so will activate the combo string, which can then be continued by adding more and more three-by-three squares to the activated area. When you're all out of moves or you run out of time to keep it going, the tiles responsible for the combo string turn into coins, which convert into points...and each level has a specific quota to reach in order to move on. The tiles fall in threes, with some pretty crazy stacks that aren't always easy to arrange.
The presentation of Trioncube is clearly one that the development team had a lot of fun creating. It's clear that the Namco Bandai team that worked on Katamari Damacy had influence over the Trioncube design team, as you'll find some crazy, quirky happenings between levels that's simply too bizarre to explain properly.
Trioncube doesn't support internet play, but it does have a decent focus on multiplayer using the Nintendo DS system's Download Play -- only a single copy of the game is needed to take advantage of Trioncube's "versus" mode. And because this game's all about combos and keeping that combo string going, the battle can get quite heated with several turnabouts during the competition.

A new release for the PAlib Coding comp by Kukuklan, heres whats new:
* Why is there a new version ?
First off, for the NINTENDOMAX / PALIB / PORTABLEDEV DS Compo, with the orange theme, I wanted to find a good idea ; and I wasn't perfectly satisfied by my Caisse DS, so I decided to create a new one by keeping what was good and adding new stuff to it...
It took me a little more than 2 months to do this new version.
The gameplay stays the same, but lots of small things have been modified/added.
Here's a quick list of changes :
New music
New transition effects
15 different backgrounds (1 is hidden )
14 themes to change the game's look (walls, floor, etc...), with 14 different characters.
Pressing SELECT while playing now shows/hides the interface
You can undo up to 192 movements, and the last moves show up on the top screen.
In the FAT version, the theme and background settings are saved...
This is not a sequel to Caisse DS, but a new version, with a completely new core, using the 500 levels from the first version.

A Newupdate from the CnCDS project:
I got the building placement mode done, so you can now build buildings and put them where you want. It properly detects if the building footprint is blocked by anything. I’ve not implemented the rule where a building has to be placed next to another though. I’ll do that later at some point.
I’ve also started to work on combat. I’ve wired up the ‘Y’ button on the DS to be a sort of debug attack button. It’ll damage whatever unit is under the selection counter by 10 hit points, though it doesn’t damage buildings yet. The code to destroy a unit once its run out of hit points is also in place.
Next I’m going to have fun adding the different weapons and turrets to units. I believe that C&C has some sort of weapon system that allows rockets to damage vehicles more than men, and machine guns to damage men more than vehicles etc. I’ll need to look into this.

Hotel Dusk may have dominated most of this week, but one of the biggest videos we saw this week was dedicated to a non-adventure game. Yes, sometimes we do take breaks from pointing and clicking. So what tempts us away?
Racing. Definitely racing. And Diddy Kong Racing DS is definitely going to pull us away from adventure gaming, and that's why this video is in the spotlight this week.

Yes, yes i know, this was posted before however this was my first time seeing it in person.
I happen to be wandering through glasgow city center when what do i see, but a guy with a wii set up on a stand in the middle of the street with an lcd above it. They were encouraging the public to play it, no doubt to advertise it, so this was a very strange thing because the wii is still more or less sold out up here.
It was however very funny because the only people wanting to play it were young kids - the adults were offered and most took a step back - happy to watch the spectacle. As a result only one adult wanted to play so one of the attendants took the other controller for a game of boxing.
anyway a pic is attached for those interested.

News from the DS-X Team
Hello everyone,
By popular demand, we recently feature-froze the OS development, and began preparing for release. While there are still quite a few additional features still in development which we had originally planned for 1.1.0, there had to come a point where we said "This is enough!" and put out what was done for the world to use.
Demand for this update has been high, but we think you'll find it was worth the wait. We've covered some of the most highly demanded feature requests, fixed a few of the most problematic bugs, and implemented some incredibly cool new functionality which opens even more doors towards making the DS-Xtreme the most feature rich and flexible product available on the market.
Probably the most noticeable change is our entirely new look and feel. While we were fond of our original skin, we felt that it was important to take our skinning engine a step further, and provide as much of a sleek, crisp, clean user experience as possible. The old skin isn't gone forever, however... we've kept it available for posterity's sake, and you can find it in the new skin selection options available in settings.
While you're there in settings, you may notice the new "Preset Directories" option available there. This is a feature which has been requested time and again on forums, and we felt we would be remiss in our duties if we hadn't implemented it. Enabling this option will restrict the searching for applications to the "Apps" directory only, the searching of music to the "Music" directory only, and the searching of SkinApps to the "SkinApps" directory. This will make search times substantially faster, further improving your experience with the DS-Xtreme.
Did I hear someone say "What are SkinApps?"
This brings us to my personal favorite new feature in 1.1.0, Skin-Engine Applications, or SkinApps. A SkinApp is a fully self contained application written using our skinning engine's functionality. Our hope is that this will pave the way for a whole series of DS-Xtreme powered homebrew games and applications, scripted in our expanding skinning/media engine. To help foster development in this area, and to give everyone some starting points to work from, we've included 3 sample SkinApps.... a calculator, an expansive sudoku engine (including the first DS-Xtreme on-screen-keyboard!), and a classic staple of gaming - a pong clone!
We still have quite a few things in development, and will be releasing updates at a slightly faster pace from here as we finish each item on the list. Keep those suggestions and ideas coming!
This update brings software version to 1.1.0, and hardware version to 1.0.1.
As this release includes quite a few skinning changes, it is important to add the "public partition" files from http://news.ds-x.com/ to your ds-x drive after the update!
Software Change-log:
+Multiple skin selection/support (Holding B during startup forces system backup skin to be loaded)
+Entirely new skin!
+Scroll-bar widget
-New loading and top screen
-Cosmetic change to App loading transition
-Previous (1.0.x) skin is now available as "OS10"
+ "Preset" directories searching option
+ "SkinApps" Skin engine based applications support
+Sudoku, Pwng, and Calculator examples
* Instant boot MBR handling bug fixed
* Instant boot LED handling bug fixed
* Better eeprom emulation mode detection
* Fixed an issue with graphics engine display quality (line skipping)
* Dpad release events are now properly placed into event queue
Hardware Change-log:
* Resolved QKIN timing issue
- Changed default IO state on CPU bus which should help improve reliability all-around.
+ Addition
* Bug fix
- Change

Leto
