Sega of Europe has finally stuck a proper date on NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, which is now heading our way in January 2008 (so no Christmas Nights then, chuckle).
Sega has also unveiled plans to reawaken the Artificial Life (A-Life) feature in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, which lets players develop their own sandbox environment enabling them to capture, raise, and even combine the inhabitants from the world of Nightopia.
Two-player modes and network support are also confirmed.
We recently had a gander at the Wii sequel and our first impressions are that Journey of Dreams sticks faithfully to the 2D-based gameplay of the Saturn original, albeit with much better visuals... apart from NiGHTS' square N64 hands.

Not that it comes as much of a surprise, but Nintendo's growing market value doesn't seem to be showing any signs of letting up, with the company now crossing the 10 trillion yen mark (or roughly $85 billion). That magic number now makes Nintendo Japan's third biggest company (up from fifth place just a few months ago), with only Toyota and Mitsubishi edging it out for first and second place, respectively. As Reuters points out, the new value is nearly triple what the company was worth before it launched the Wii late last year (although the DS no doubt had a fair bit to do with that as well), and a fivefold increase over what it was worth two years ago.

Samuelv has released a new version of SvSIP, the VOIP application for the DS:
SvSIP is a software that you allow to use your Nintendo DS [1] like phone. For this, it uses SIP protocol. This protocol is an open standard for creating, modifying, and terminating sessions with one or more participants. It is widely used as a signaling protocol for Voice over IP.
This software is under development, it currently allows:
to call to number with figures,
to receive calls,
to question IVR by using DTMF tones.
This new version includes new software wifi-config that it allows to configure wifi connexion and to do tests of connexions. The connection parameters must be save. wifi file is saved in svsip directory. This file can be edit manually. The parameters are gave in file: wifi.example.txt. I thanks Benjamin (ongleben) to ask me this program to test DNS question and answer.
The wifi connexion is better, and I thanks particularly Stefan Engelen who he made several tests to identify the problem.
In this new version, SvSip rings when call is received. For the moment, it is not possible to define mp3,wav... file.
The keys are programed like this:
key function
A call or answer
B hang up
start+select reboot
A+B+X+Y power off
In configuration file, the following parameter has renamed:
—micro-vol is replaced by —mic-level
The followings parameters has added:
—speaker-level to define the speaker level [0-10]
—log-file to define the log file. If this parameter is undefined, the log will not be save.
—log-level to define the log level to save (0 none, 6 trace)

The DS already has four Harvest Moon games, and that's not including the Rune Factory titles. Add one more to the list, as Marvelous Entertainment announced this past week Bokujou Monogatari: Kira Kira Taiyou to Nakamatachi. We're unofficially translating this Japanese title to "Harvest Moon: Sparking Sun and Friends."
Your latest portable farming exploits take place on the five islands of the Himawari Island Chain, a peaceful land within visible range of Hinata Island, the location of the last game. You'll once again get to experience the slow life as you raise animals, make friends, and get hitched.
The five islands provide different areas of play. Your farm has one island all to itself. Immediately to the south, accessible via a walking bridge, are two islands where you lead your life, buy supplies, and go out on dates. To the west is an island that's used for festivals and events. And to the East is an island where you go for Wi-Fi item exchange and voice chat.
You'll also come upon a few secret islands as you play through the game. Some islands will spring up from the depths of the ocean, and will only be accessible by boat.
Typical of the series, a big part of the game involves raising animals. Marvelous is adding wild animals to the mix this time around, including bunnies and bears. Of course, cows and chickens will also play a big role in your daily farming chores.
This latest Harvest Moon is 75% complete and will see Japanese release this Winter.

Last week marked the beginning of Neo Geo titles on Wii's Virtual Console, and this week again sets a benchmark for Nintendo's download service, as the first TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM game is ready for your downloading pleasure. Also included is a classic from the Super NES era, and a sequel to one of VC's hottest games with NES's Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos.
Each of the titles are again hitting the download service at their expected prices, with Ninja Gaiden at 500 Wii Points, Metal Marines at 800, and the new TG16-CD shooter Gate of Thunder arriving also for 800 points. Will the extra cash be worth it for the TurboGrafx16 CD titles? Check back later today and into this week for full reviews on each of this week's games. For your perusing pleasure we've included Nintendo's official descriptions for each of this week's games below. Enjoy.
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points): In Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.
Metal Marines (Super NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Set in the near future, most of Earth's land has been disintegrated in the chaos of the Anti-matter War. This real-time strategy game portrays the Colonies' Allied Force - the Metal Marines - in their epic struggle against General Zorgeuf and the Imperial Federation, who are bent on world domination. Commanding the Metal Marines across a series of battles, the player must strategically allocate resources, ready supplies, manage funds and move troops in an effort to outwit and outmove the opponent. The real-time battle system rewards split-second decisions and adaptability in the struggle for military superiority. Unlike most turn-based strategy games, Metal Marines engrosses the player in a fast-paced and frantic battle in which both sides advance simultaneously. A constant eye must be kept on enemy movements to maintain a formidable defense and not miss the perfect chance to strike. Strategic foresight and quick judgment hold the key to victory.
Gate of Thunder (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The legendary sci-fi shooter is back! Gate of Thunder is a horizontal side-scrolling shooter that places you in control of special undercover agent Hawk, whose mission is to stop the deadly army of Obbellon fighters. Jump into the action as Hawk gets aboard his ship, the Hunting Dog, and heads out toward the enemy. Blast through stages while effectively using all three of the weapons at your disposal and receiving support from ally Wild Cat ships. Switch through equippable power-up options on the fly to change the direction of your attack. You'll have to blast in front of and behind you to survive all seven stages. Hard-core shooting-game fans looking for a challenge can select HARD or DEVIL mode to experience even more intense action!

Outgoing Nintendo of America marketing executive Perrin Kaplan says consumers were getting tired of gaming before Nintendo reinvigorated the market with its Wii console.
Kaplan, Nintendo of America VP of marketing and corporate affairs, was speaking after Nintendo received yet another marketing honor for the delivery of its mass-market friendly message that has helped its Wii console prosper in the next-gen console battle.
"A major insight that Nintendo had early on was that they saw that gamers were getting bored, even though they didn't know it yet," Kaplan told Advertising Age, which named Nintendo Marketer of the Year for its success in attracting a wider consumer demographic to gaming.
Kaplan's opinion is backed up by Robert Matthews, NOA's senior director of consumer marketing, who suggested that people were growing tired of having to play games for long stretches rather than being able to dip in and out of the fun.
"Just look at the way people consume entertainment today. The idea that you would spend hours playing video games is just not real anymore," said Matthews.
While acknowledging the success of the Wii marketing campaign, fellow exec George Harrison said that Nintendo didn't spent more on getting its message across than it had in the past.
"It was one of our biggest [campaigns] in terms of impact, although the actual [media] spending was about the same as the year before," Harrison said. "We didn't just double our budget to blanket both audiences [gamers and non-gamers].
"In our PR, we've always done outreach, but in this case, when we noticed something interesting happening online -like the weight loss using Wii Sports - we would draw it to the media's attention," he added. "The little things that kept showing up were picked up and blown out in marketing. ... When we saw what people were doing or how they were getting creative, we would move on it."
The commercial success of the Wii, in conjunction with the continued popularity of Nintendo's DS handheld console, has seen Nintendo's stock rise to new heights in recent times. The Wii is currently the fastest selling next-gen system, and despite announcing its intentions to supply "unprecedented" stock to market Nintendo says it won't meet consumer demand this holiday season.
With Harrison and Kaplan having announced their plans to leave the company in the near future in the wake of the marketing division's planned relocation from Redmond, Washington, to San Francisco and New York, Matthews says the company's marketing message must be clear and consistent if its success is to be maintained.
"It really comes down to a very essential strategy if Nintendo is truly going to expand the marketplace with products," said Matthews. "It can't be an 'or' strategy; it has to be an 'and' strategy, and it also needs to be built on a strategy of advocacy."

Nintendo's market value has peaked at over JPY 10 trillion (USD 85 billion / EUR 60 billion), taking it to a lifetime high.
Stock rose 5.3 per cent to JPY 71,300 on Monday – a fivefold increase in the past two years.
And investors and analysts see no sign of interest in the company dropping as it ignores competition in the market by Sony and Microsoft, and continues its own strategy of expanding the games playing market into new areas.
"There's every reason to believe Nintendo will continue to execute its strategy well in expanding the gaming industry to strengthen its position... and really keep doing what it's been doing regardless of what competition is doing," offered analyst Hiroshi Kamide, of KBC Securities, to Reuters.
Investor confidence in Nintendo remains strong ahead of the Christmas period, with the company expected to score high sales of the Wii and DS consoles and related software.
Last week the firm announced that Wii Fit, the new software and peripheral bundle that is expected to further boost consoles sales, will launch in Japan this December.
