Nintendo overlord Satoru Iwata has revealed that Monster Hunter 3 is being made for Wii.
He took to the stage at the recent Japanese media briefing to unveil the news, which was helpfully live blogged by magazine Gemaga and translated by 1UP. It is the same conference responsible for the Wii Fit date and revelation that Mario Kart would feature bikes.
Monster Hunter is a series of games for PSP from Capcom that has been been wildly popular in Japan, with each edition shifting more than one million copies.
The third instalment had previously been announced for PS3, although no mention of it was made by either Capcom or Nintendo at the briefing. Details on gameplay and dates were also missing, probably because some sort of dinosaur-thing had gobbled them up.
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 was released for PSP in Europe in September, roughly seven months later than its Japanese counterpart. We enjoyed it, although we couldn't help thinking it had fallen short of its full potential.

Today, Nintendo released a new firmware update for the Wii, raising it to version 3.1. They sent a message to Wiis everywhere to notify people of the new update.
Dear Customer,
We would like to inform you that you can now update your Wii Menu to version 3.1. To do this, please select the "Update" button at the bottom of your screen.
Please note that you can now use a USB keyboard with the Wii Menu.
Please go to www.nintendo.com to learn which keyboards can be used.
**If you've updated your system on or after October 10, you may already have the latest version of the system software and do not need to perform this update again.
Unless there are any unknown features, here's what the update adds:
- Full USB keyboard support
- Update to the Everybody Votes Channel (have to download separately on the Shop Channel)
- Update to the Internet Channel (have to download separately on the Shop Channel)
- Ability to send links to friends on Message Board
- Copying and pasting text on the Internet Channel

News via The Virtual Console Archive
Earlier today, Nintendo held a press conference in Japan. While I'm sure we're all aware of the bigger news, like Sonic being in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and motorcycles being in Mario Kart Wii, there's a nice treat in store for the Wii Shop too!
First off, Nintendo has announced the first WiiWare title made by themselves - It's Dr. Mario! First details and screenshots (Found here) seem to suggest it's a faithful recreation of the original game with some new features, and Wi-Fi multiplayer!
Hudson, not staying behind, have also announced three more WiiWare titles. Star Soldier R, Bomberman and Joysound (A karaoke game) will all be appearing in the spring of next year. Star Soldier R has some screenshots, which you can view here .
Nintendo has also announced what many people were asking for - Yes, DS demos will be downloaded from the Wii Shop sometime in the future! Presumably you will wirelessly link the DS with the Wii and then play the demos on your DS. No date has been given, but we expect it to be early next year.
Finally in VC news, the Everybody Votes Channel will be getting an update, which will allow you to vote how much you like games you own. We don't know if this includes VC games, but it would be likely.
Apparently, there will also be new Channels soon - Alongside the already known Mii Popularity Channel, we'll be getting some sort of Pokemon Channel and a Commercial Channel of sorts, for viewing game commercials and trailers! Screens of these can be found here again.
And if that's not enough - There's a new Wii update available, which will enable USB keyboard support for the Internet Channel, allows you to open links sent through a message in the Internet Channel, allows you to copy text to search with, and more!

It's been announced at Nintendo's Fall Conference that Square Enix will be releasing a kooky spin-off of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles on the Wii. How is that kooky? Two reasons: one, it's a Wii Ware exclusive. So it's download-only. Second is that it sounds like it has a definite strategy vibe to it, with the player building and governing their own land. Sounds interesting. And different! At least one thing's old-fashioned Squeenix, though. The name. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Small King and the Promised Country. Ungh. Should be out in Japan in March.

I was sitting there wondering how Nintendo would top a Virtual Console week where they released two previously unseen in the U.S. games, so I decided to check GoNintendo for what came out today. Three pages in, there it was. Neo Geo Games have finally come to the U.S. Virtual Console. That's the good news. The bad news is, all of these games were made completely obsolete by years of far superior sequels. Still, it's cool to see them actually coming out.
These games were ported by D4 Enterprise, a company which has absolutely nothing to do with D3. They made the one-chip MSX though! Also, for those of you who didn't pick up Sin and Punishment last week - pick up Sin and Punishment. It's an excellent, excellent Treasure shooter that was (quite truthfully) brought to the virtual console just for us - and people like us. Just so you know, the best way to play it is to use the analog stick on the left of the VC pad to aim, and use face buttons to move left and right.

Ars Technica notes that the official Smash Bros. Brawl site is now discussing a co-op play mode for the game. You'll now be able to team up as your favorite Nintendo characters in a vs. Computer story mode.
"While the adventure mode was never really the best feature of previous Smash Brothers games, playing through with a friend will likely yield some great gameplay experiences ... Other notes on the mode include details on the camera, which will follow the first player in a way that appears similar to the handling of Sonic and Tails in Sonic 2, an overworld map which hints at a fairly lengthy adventure, the ability to create multiple teams, and five levels of difficulty ranging from easy to intense."

News/release from wb3000
In essence, dsbuff is what dslazy would be today if development was continued. You will find the interface familiar, but the feature list extended.
The current features are...
-Info
-Trim
-DLDI (All Slot-1 Patches now!)
-Unpack
-Pack
-CrashMe (needs testing)
-NDSPatch
-NDSLoader (needs testing)
-ARM7 Swapper
-Skinnable Interface
-Header Editor
-Send to Drive
("needs testing" essentially means I don't know what results are expected usually, though they are all implemented.)
The changes this release include the addition of a Header Editor, which allows you to modify ROM headers, and a Drive function, which sends the modified ROM to your flashcard or wherever you need your ROMs.
Some smaller things include...
-NDSPatch now works for real.
-The interface has been changed, you now use the 2 left and right arrow buttons to shift the function buttons left or right. It's easy to catch on to.
To skin the interface, you simply need to create six images, one for the background (Ideally 444x126) and five for the buttons (Ideally 32x32). The names must be back.png, info.png, trim.png, dldi.png, unpack.png, pack.png.
Note that unlike dslazy, all the files this requires are stored in C:/dsbuff/. The skin files must be in the skin directory of this folder. And If you want any of the batches or files, etc., look there.

Shash has posted some new news about his DS Emulator for Windows:
Today, after reading Martin Korth's recently released (he hadn't updated it since ages ago) explanation on how DS hardware shadow volumes work, I attempted to implement them, as it was easier than I thought: it's not like the stencil shadows implementations that I've seen on PC, were the stencil is used to block lighting, and usually a shadow volume has to be computed per light. On the DS, it's a two step process: first, a mask step, which basically creates a mask to know where the next step should be applied, and a second step, that it's simply drawing a certain (usually black or dark) volume were the mask lets us. Light computation/s is NOT used at all :P
For example, imagine a cylinder intersecting the floor, the first step would create a mask that would resemble a circle on the floor (in fact it doesn't work exactly like that, but for the explanation sake...), and the second would paint a dark colour on that circle (and nowhere else). Why use a cylinder, and not a circle directly? Because we can't be sure of the topology/shape of the floor, neither if it'll be a floor, or animated: using this approach, we can shadow whatever is inside our cylinder, without the need of knowing the rest of the object/s in the scene.
So here's the result, and that fixes one of the last "big" bugs on Mario 64 DS. In the process I also fixed and important blending/transparency bug, which narrows even more the list of graphic bugs: only small ones left, the "waves" background on the save selection screen don't look exactly as on the DS, probably due to the way lights or normals are treated right now and the writing on Daisy's letter don't fade correctly (2D core related).

News from Wizlon:
Another version? Yep. This one includes some changes to the chord browser, it’s now more stable, Also the tab viewer is a bit more functional (although more buggy) and displays a tab over both screens with the ability to set the tab scrolling so you can play along easier (Press A to start). More updates […]
Version 0.10 of Tabbed is officially OUT! This is the first version on Tabbed to see release and as such is a steaming pile of trainwreck code with more bugs than my old abandoned toolshed! But at least it’s here.
I’ll let the readme do all the talking, but here is the release log.
v0.10 - Browse your memory card
Load a text file (only from the root)
Scroll through the text file with L+R
Choose a chord from a list to see how it’s formed
Press strings to see which chord you have made (L+R to set the fret)
Listen to a funky Metronome (Up and Down for MORE COWBELL!!)
I would really like to hear feedback on this version, I know it’s riddled with bugs and it’s hella basic, but any thoughts or ideas are always welcome. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

Word on the net is that Nintendo could be plotting the launch of a new Wii. Codename Revolution reports that Nintendo has registered a new console, currently named 'New Pack', and that it will soon be in the hands of retailers.
The universal product code (UPC) code of the new console is apparently 045496880088 compared to the original Wii which has a UPC of 0045496580018. Two digits are different.
Integrated DVD playback?
There's absolutely no clue as to what this new console will be, although it is possible to make an educated guess.
'New Pack' could be a Wii that launches with integrated DVD playback, something that's been talked about for a long time. And what with all those third party software firms making Wii software to force DVD playback, Nintendo might have decided to just ship the consoles with it included.
It could also be something as mundane as a new bundle, with some new games. Or some new colours. Maybe it'll even ship with the new Wii Zapper?

Archeide returns with a new version of SNEmulDS:The preview-alpha version of SNEmulDS 0.6 is now available for all the brave testers around the world!
The GUI artworks are not ready, so you have a "naked" and not very pretty GUI, but at least, you have the multi languages support!
You can check if your language is correct.
You can choose one of the language in the firmware or some language by editing the snemul.cfg :
# Language of GUI
# -1 -> Use firmware settings
Firmware languages:
# 0 -> Japanese (Katakana only)
# 1 -> English
# 2 -> French
# 3 -> German
# 4 -> Italian
# 5 -> Spanish
Non firmware languages:
# 106 -> Portuguese
# 107 -> Catalan
# 108 -> Polish
# 109 -> Dutch
# 110 -> Danish
Various External RAM packages can be used to improve large rom emulation, see snemul.cfg for more informations.
Scaling support has three modes :
- Full screen : nearly like snezzids
- Half scaling : "smart" scaling, only reduce half the backgrounds, and doesn't squish sprites. It looks quite fine in games.
- No scaling : no scaling at all, classic SNEmulDS mode, still default
Here is the complete list of changes compated to 0.5 beta:
- New GUI using framebuffer for sub screen
- Better human interface, improved file selector (alphabetical sorted), buttons, check boxes, multi choose zones, etc.
- New GUI supports joypad (joypad is not supported when emulator is running however).
- Multi language support (more than 10 supported, including katakan japanese !)
- Memory pak support (Opera RAM, Slot 2 card reader, etc. using libram) with paging or with large ROM mapping
- Scaling with pseudo bi-linear filtering and sprites squishing : full screen scaling (like snezzids), half scaling (half scaled and without sprites squishing), and no scaling (classic snemulds mode)
- Autiomatic SRAM saving when needed
- Some other bugfixes and improvements in GUI

Did Nintendo's mascot plumber take a cue from a heavily-armed Lombax and his robot buddy? Insomnianc Marketing Director Ryan Schneider seems to think so. In an interview with Kikizo, Schneider said, "There's evidence all around us I think, of certain games that have borrowed from Ratchet and Clank. One that we're even extremely flattered by is Super Mario Galaxy, with their spherical worlds; we did spherical worlds in Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal."
"It would be amazing to think that [Mario creator Shigeru] Miyamoto-san thought that was so cool that he wanted to incorporate it into Mario Galaxy. Granted, he's doing it in a different way, but it's still a spherical world, so it's flattering to see those sorts of things," he said.
We're not convinced, however, that it was hours of Ratchet & Clank that inspired Miyamoto's Mario ideas (though now that we think about it, that Mario Sunshine water pack is awfully suspicious ...). We wonder if the levels aren't an idea culled from strenuous play sessions with Tetrisphere. We've embedded videos of all three below as evidence to present; any other games with spherical worlds you can think of?

Gamecop posted this news:
Kloplop321 has been working hard on this Moonshell theme emulator for several months. Moonshell is a multimedia homebrew application for the Nintendo DS. His Moonshell theme emulator for PC/Windows, known as Phleon, has now been released today. Since this is a beta release... if you find any bugs or have suggestions, please let us know by replying in this thread.
Quote:
Phleon is a VB.NET program Made to emulate the themes for Moonshell. It is simple to use(in my idea), can go in reduced mode, meaning less processing for the less powerful computers. This program's source will not be released until a Major Version is created, the released source will also be commented heavily to provide examples for other coders.
This program does not emulate Moonshell entirely. It only shows the use and effects of what will happen with the files provided. It can open another theme and change settings, export it, etc. This makes a pure drag and drop Usable theme. It is not totally complete, but does help give an idea if it will work or not. It also has an Error Report window showing what hasn't or could not be loaded.
I do not know what every Moonshell's optional variables are for the configurations, however if there are any, please post examples of them, a link to a theme that uses it, and so forth. I know I am missing a few.
Suggestions always help, thanks.
