We can all think back to particular moments in certain video games that have penetrated the thick, black crust which envelops our hearts and caused us to tear up. Perhaps it was that heartbreaking moment in Final Fantasy VII, or the ending to Shadow of the Colossus. Maybe it was the time your mom made you go to bed while you were in the middle of a particularly gripping Karazhan raid, or when you finally finished Steel Magnolias Adventures, a game so awesome that it hasn't actually been created yet.
Bandai Namco is making a pretty heady claim -- not only is their newest game going to make you cry, it's going to do it about 100 times. Calling the aptly titled 99 no Namida (or 99 Tears) a game isn't actually accurate. It's more of a handheld therapeutic crying assistant, providing you with a sad graphic novel to read for 15 minutes at the end of each day, with a brief questionnaire following shortly after, the results of which will help move you closer to the story which will more effectively tug at your heartstrings, and further from the respect of your bros on the wrestling squad.

We love unique, video game inspired artwork just as much as the next guy -- our weary-spined copy of "i am 8-bit" can vouch for that. However, we also love our preserved, cherished memories of our NES era heroes. These two feelings conflict when looking at Jimi Benedict's surreal video game art -- our inner Andy Warhol loves Benedict's incredibly unique and lovingly detailed portraits, but the traditionalist in us prefers not to think of Link as a gap-toothed, Sloth-faced dwarf.
You can see both full portraits after the jump, but to see the rest of Benedict's art (including what appears to be a mock-up title screen to the lesser known NES game Obama: Take the Power Back), you'll have to go to his website -- a swirling vortex of complete madness and totally rad drawings.

It's not the first we've heard of the Wii being used for rehabilitation context, but it would appear "Wiihab" is becoming increasingly frequent. According to the AP, hospitals in states like Missouri, Illinois, and North Carolina, and even Walter Reed Army Medical Center are all incorporating the Wii into physical therapy routines. Just in time, too, it would be really weird if Wiiitis or a nasty Wiinjury landed you in the hospital in the first place, your doctor used a Wii to hone his steady hand, and you didn't actually get to use a Wii to get your ass well enough to be discharged. Ah, what a world.

Michael posted this:
For people who have a USB Gecko will be happy to know libdb has been updated with USB Gecko support. This allows remote debugging just like with the BBA in libogc.
You will however need the latest libogc build from the sourceforge CVS.
For the PC side of things all you need to do is follow these steps:
1. Go to device manager and select the device 'USB Serial Converter' which is the USB Gecko device.
2. Right click and select properties, then go to the 'advanced' tab.
3. Click the 'Load VCP' box so its selected then press ok.
4. Unplug the cable and then reinsert.
Your USB Gecko will now act as a com device and work in gdb just like with the BBA on Gamecube.
I think people will find this useful who are using Wii consoles. Please thank Shagkur if you do.
I plan to do a tutorial for setting up GDB but i thought i'd post it here first.

Oxtob has updated his application for the Nintendo DS:
I really like the idea of the popular minigame Crayon Physics: You draw an object on the screen and it instantly becomes physical and interacts with other objects. The first thing that sprung to my mind when seeing it was "This would be awesome on the DS!" And Pocket Physics is what I came up with after two weeks. It isn't really a game, but more of a physical construction kit for your pocket. You can design scenes freely by drawing things with the stylus. Things can be solid, like ramps and floors, or dynamic, like balls or boxes. Like in The Incredible Machine, you can reset the scene, change it, and start the simulation again. It's even more fun if you have a DS Motion, which can be used to control gravity!
v0.4 (2008-02-08)
Saving and loading! (introducing the XML-based .pp file format)
Smart pin placement: While the pen is on the screen, you can move the pin around. It's position is fixed when you lift the pin. While you drag the pin around, the objects that are about to be pined are highlighted.
Smart deleting: Deleting also works just smart pin placement. Also, pins can now be deleted.
Toggle viewing window visibility with select.

DekuTree64 posted a new release of Animanatee for the Nintendo DS:
Yet another little art program for DS.
The controls are explained in the program, but here are the basic features:
- 2 layers ("BG" and "frame"). BG gets copied over when you create a new frame, so you can have a persistent background, or modify it as you go.
- 60 color palette, which can all be modified.
- 4 brush sizes
- Up to 10000 frames, or until memory runs out.
- Undo/redo. Up to 32 levels, or until it fills its 128KB buffer.
- Onion skinning (sort of, only shows one previous frame).
NEW in v1.3
- Error checking on file access.
- Changed export format to .avi instead of .flc.
- Added a button so you can save without exporting, since it takes a while.
- Added a progress bar when saving.
Things I'd like to add:
- Better onion skinning.
- Better save system. At the very least, thumbnails or something.
- Offsetting (like to scroll the background a few pixels per frame).
- Less stylus jumping.
- A Mario Paint style music sequencer.
- Playing a wav/mp3/etc. file along with the animation.
- Recording a sound track with the microphone.
- Stamps
Feel free to add to the list, or to vote for which of the ones on there that you'd like to see first.
Cheers!

Updated release from Unkwar:
Enigma is a game of riddles like very much Closed.
I thought to ask Cobain integrate my riddles, but as I have no evil and do less time I decided to do my own game
Do not look at it as a vulgar plagiarism, I simply wanted to encode it for myself in order to make progress, see rather as a pooling leg before the next release. (Closed biensur)
I do not claim to do both, in fact I would probably not (Closed is a must for me) only if it can do wait those who love the genre ...
History:
Version 0.2
- Adding 3 riddles -> 12 total
- Corrections of errors that have crept into the enigmas 5 and 7, but do not prevent the resolution

PadrinatoR posted this news/release:
This application lets you boot homebrew in your DS using a wifi connection.
It sets a TCP connection with the server app and this sends the app to boot,
the client writes it in the SD using libfat and then it's booted using bootlib1.3.
This application has been tested in DSTT, but it should work with any other slot-1 flashcart
and slot-2 flashcarts if you patch the correspondant files with DLDI patcher.
You have more info in the README file.

Myst has been out for the DS in Europe for a good while now, receiving a rating of 59% from NGamer.
"If you want to experience the world of Myst as it was meant to be, it makes a lot more sense if you're sitting at a desk, looking at a crisp PC monitor," said Martin Kitts in his review.
Makes sense to us, especially considering you can pick it up for less than a dollar on Ebay.
For the dedicated American Myst fan though, here's a bunch of screenshots and even a trailer to tempt your insatiable appetite for early-nineties CDROM ports.
Myst comes out in the USA sometime in March.

Wii action-RPG Opoona has been tapped for American release on March 25.
The game, announced almost a year ago, appears to be in the style of a traditional Japanese RPG, but bizarrely only uses the Nunchuk as a controller.
Opoona follows the story of a young boy who crashes on Planet Landroll after his spaceship is involved in an accident. Marooned, players must take control of the boy, find him a job, search for his siblings and defend the people of Landroll from creatures known as Dark Rogues.
Using the Nunchuk, players can manipulate powerful "Energy Bonbons" in different ways and alter trajectories. We presume Energy Bonbons are some sort of super sweet that kills people by overdosing them with sugar and caffeine.
Koei has also labelled Opoona a 'Lifestyle RPG', which seems to mean you get to talk to people and do a few side quests instead of just repeatedly kill monsters for XP.
From the sounds of it and the look of the screenshots, we think it could be awesome. We're especially hopeful that the shoddy translation makes it through to the European release - check out the screenshot where the titular character decries, "You won the battle handily!"

We already know that Nintendo alone can't smash all the R4 devices that allow for easy downloading and piracy of DS games. But could the aid of Europe's ELSPA help Nintendo complete its total smashing plan? Probably not, but that hasn't stopped the European trade organization from lending its help to Nintendo in battling the widely available device.
How exactly they'll help isn't yet clear, though. In a cryptically vague statement to MCV, ELSPA said they were "evaluating the R4 game copying device" and "working closely with [Nintendo] to consider the next step in the UK." While that statement doesn't reveal any concrete plans, it also doesn't rule out any potential "next step." S.W.A.T. team raids, tanks in the streets, nuclear strikes --they're all potential piracy-battling strategies that aren't eliminated by this statement. Pirates, start digging your fallout shelters ... NOW!

Eidos is collaborating with clever German man Reiner Knizia to make a DS game to challenge your brain.
Though far from original, Dr. Reiner Knizia's Brainbenders will be more about high-scores and working through taxing puzzles than getting a younger brain or something like that.
Challenges will vary from speed counting marine life in Cape Town to assembling stone tablets in Aztec Ruins. Clever German man will accompany you as you travel around the world, and you can send games to your friends using Wi-Fi.
Reiner Knizia is most famous for his work on board games. He gave up his job as a quantitative analyst more than ten years ago to pursue making them, and has been lumped with lots of recognition and good sales since; his Lord of the Rings game has sold over one million copies.
More of his work is being tapped up for Live Arcade, too, according to Wikipedia.
Brainbenders is yet to be dated, but you can see the first screenshots over in our gallery, right here.
