alien8r33d posted this interesting news:
For anyone who may still be interested, I am currently converting the old Amiga favourite Alien Breed for the GBA. It is being written in 100% assembler as are all my efforts.
It is about 80% complete. I have not released any WIPs since this site no longer seems to be updated. Last year I sent in a GBA electronics CAD program I wrote and it was never posted....
Should be a very interesting release when it happens.

Eo posted this news/release:
Hello,
Also in the field pursuant to learn Japanese, here is a kanji dictionary.
Use:
Simply trace its kanji party in the drawing in the lower left corner, it will be analyzed in real time. Simply click on the button corresponding to the desired kanji (5 opportunity from top to bottom in order of probability) to display information about kanji (which includes for the moment readings, the meaning and information qq) on the screen.
Press L to reset the drawing area of kanji. It takes a little know how to write kanji anyway, the algorithm is based on an analysis of traits.
Technos:
I reused engine JStroke (Palm application) for the analysis of kanji (I think it really not bad) and Kanjidic to the database of Kanji. The kanjidic is fairly exhaustive, but it is unlikely that the engine reconnaissance edge on all entries.
This is a second version which enables them to search by reading, translation and radical in addition to the trail. It is also possible to change screen with R.

News/Release from Risike:
RPG puzzle here is a name that stinks! If you find one more sympathetic I am prenneur!
So RPG puzzle is the project on which I was working before I launch into emulation. I wanted not present before it is completed, but the problem is that I am a quiche and graphics at the point where I am dev level, I need to move forward graphsimes (to calculate the places where placing images ... etc).
So if someone has the soul of a graphic artist and that the project it pleases him to tell.
So what's Puzzle RPG?
And if you have played Zelda ...
... It will not help you understand the game!
More seriously, if you have played Puzzle Quest, the excellent trading Thursday on DS, soon you will understand the principle of my game
Here first 2 screenshots: one of the screen title and the game itself.
The second screenshot just take a quick glance to understand the principle wholesale.
Explanations:
We choose a character.
Each has several personal capacity (spells carefully attack, supports what classic ... etc!)
When one chooses and that the computer has chosen, it becomes a college board of 8x8 pieces.
The aim is to exchange places pieces next to each other every turn to rows and columns of at least 3 identical parts.
When aligned its parts it happens things (yeah!):
-- If the pieces are swords: attack the enemy on the number of pieces removed (we start at 100 PV, I think configurable)
-- +: It is highly treatable in the number of parts removed least 3. (Otherwise it's endless)
-- The others give mana.
The mana is used to utilize its capabilities (listed left). For example launch a large fireball on his evil adversary for him crâmer beard. Of course there may be all kinds of capabilities: attack, defense, maintains, poisoning etc. ...
When you launch a sort un animation is supposed to appear on the enemy (but I am zero in gfx ...).
In short, you have more or less understood what the principle! If this is not the case too bad for you.
I join you in the last build date. This one will let you see the pretty menu, to play against the computer (endless) and hear the beautiful music free that does not change between the menu and the game
What is done:
-- Engine of the Game: 100% (one can play, "pitcher fate" is ready yet to create the sorts ... Etc)
-- IA: 90% (in fact there are two types of IA: AI beast who will choose the first combination that sees and which launches its spell once it is able, intelligent and IA will focus on swords and launch spells a subtle way. need the code again this subtle way to launch spells)
-- A portion of the menu (just the core menu not submenus)
What remains to be done:
-- From graphics (many)
-- A portion of the IA
-- Correct some graphical bugs (I have trouble controlling PAlib)
-- The sub menu (option scores)
-- Mode 2 players (3 minutes coder)
(Not after I see, when I think of something I add)
Voil*!
So I repeat nice if a designer goes through there: if you are not a bad graphsime and you find the fun, do not hesitate to say so!

News/release from Scott Mcfly:
First off, I made the front page with the previous version of this, woo! Thanks guys!
So this was version 0.2 (http://palib.info/forum/modules/newb...forumpost22439) that I posted back in November, and after being quite busy with other things over the Christmas/New Year period, have now gotten time to work on version 0.3. And here it is! Main improvements are that you can now split your hand (providing you have the money), and normal Blackjack rules are in place for that (no splitting 10s, only one more card after splitting aces etc.), and there's also some sprites for cards to further get away from the text-based feel of the previous versions. A fellow member B.J. offered me the use of their card graphics for this game after I posted 0.2, so I'll be looking to incorporate them into a future version now that everythings in place for the sprites, so big thanks for that! I had hoped to get some sound effects or music working for this version, but that still needs a little more work, so I've put that on hold for just now. There's also a small pause between card drawings just to add a bit of suspense!
As mentioned before, my aim for this is to create a fully customisable Blackjack game where you can tweak all the rules to how the game is played in your part of the world or how you play with friends. Or perhaps just with the rules you want to practice on for fun or for when you want to hit the casino!
I'll be working a lot more on this now that the holiday season is over with, so it'll be a shorter gap until the next version. I'm hoping to get a section for the user to tweak some of the more basic rules, maybe keep track of some stats as you play, possibly get some sounds in there and look into the new card graphics. The ones I have now are really just intended as a "first draft" of sorts, so they won't still be there come version 1.0. I also plan on giving more space on the screen to the cards, which would mean finding a new way of showing any split hands you have. For this first attempt though, you can only split once and if you do then it's on the screen all the time for you to see.
There's also a few minor things that need tweaked such as the dealer not taking cards when you already have Blackjack (unless they have a 10 or an ace), but I'd promised to get this out before the end of January, so I had to leave some things til next time.
Any feedback is appreciated as are any bugs that you might find! Splitting cards caused a few niggles, but I think I got them all. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks!

The built-in speakers on the Nintendo DS Lite may not be spectacular, but they manage to get the point—and by point we mean the musical bleeps and bloops of the latest Zelda game—across quite well. GameTech disagrees, which is why they created this Sound Shell DLite addition that not only adds slightly stronger speakers on the back, but a stand to prop your DS up in case the whole thing becomes slightly too heavy for your underdeveloped arms to lift. $30 [£15] gets you the entire contraption.

HAL Laboratory's oft-overlooked NES puzzle game Adventures of Lolo 2 is the only new title on the Wii Virtual Console in Europe this week.
Presumably it's often overlooked because we want them to put games like Chrono Trigger on Virtual Console not this fluff no one remembers.
Anyway, HAL made quite a few of these Lolo games, which descend from the "Eggerland" original and involve navigating around tricky monsters to collect items and acquiring a Jewel Box to clear the way to the next room.
This one is from the NES, so costs 500 Wii Points (let's get this right this week - approx. GBP 3.50 / EUR 5.00), and has 50 rooms and four hidden "pro-puzzle" rooms to uncover.
We'll be letting you know whether it's any cop once Nintendo's released enough Virtual Console games to justify our doing another roundup! In the meantime, share your wisdom using the devices below.

Electronic Arts has confirmed to Eurogamer that there are currently no plans to release UEFA Euro 2008 on Wii and DS.
The game was unveiled earlier today on PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP, PC and mobile.
But despite EA's Vancouver men turning out an interesting Wii version of FIFA 08 last year, a spokesperson told Eurogamer that nothing's been announced or is on the cards.
Still, who cares any more? It's not as though we're going to watch any of it on telly because it will make us cry.
Anyway, the other versions include a mode which lets you fight to become your country's captain, as well as interactive celebrations (punch Stewart Downing?) and a "Battle of the Nations" online element.
Watch out for more closer to the 11th April release.

Nintendo has registered a patent for what looks like a series of casings in which the Wii remote can be slotted to create a new peripheral.
As spotted by 22hundred.net, the patent document refers to "A video game controller for a video game and a receptor assembly" and "A receptor having a shape substantially similar to a component appearing in the video game."
That sounds the Wii Zapper, you might think, the bit of plastic that turns the remote into a light gun. And indeed, the document states, "The receptor may be a gun-shaped sub-unit."
But have a look at the drawings included in the patent. They show all manner of casings which could be used to hold the remote.
Some of these make instant sense, like the tennis racket, baseball bat and fishing rod. But what about the bicycle, motorbike helmet and chair? Not to mention the teddy bear, which looks familiar. And is that some kind of virtual reality headset? Please, not that again.
Course it could be Nintendo's just trying to prevent other companies creating such peripherals, rather than working on plans to do so itself. But you know.

ELSPA has told GamesIndustry.biz that a recent story about DS piracy in North America contains false quotes attributed to a company spokesperson.
The Sunday Post quoted John Hillier, manager of ELSPA's Intellectual Property Crime Unit as saying "In America, it's thought 90 per cent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of R4s," while discussing the notorious chip that allows easy piracy on Nintendo's handheld.
However, a spokesperson for ELSPA told GamesIndustry.biz that, "[John] didn't quote The Sunday Post on any figures whatsoever."
"ELSPA would certainly never presume to comment about America or anywhere else outside of the UK," added the spokesperson.
The report, said ELSPA, is a hatchet job consisting of facts from an article from Singapore, false quotes and a genuine conversation with Hillier on the availability of the R4 cartridge in the UK.
"The quotes from The Sunday Post were ascribed to his name from another article which originates from a website in Singapore. This, it appears, is where The Sunday Post first found out about the supposed R4 situation and for some reason unknown to John have quoted him on what this article said."
The spokesperson also stated that Nintendo views the reported facts in The Sunday Post article as completely false.
"As far as Nintendo are concerned, the facts are completely spurious."

Nintendo has officially confirmed the rumour that they are releasing a new cobalt/black-coloured DS Lite.
The latest version marks the seventh colour in the DS Lite palatte, joining white, pink, onyx, crimson/black, gold and metallic rose - the latter of which are limited editions.
When asked earlier this week if such a colour was in the works, a Nintendo spokesperson would neither confirm nor deny, saying simply: "Nintendo has not made any announcements about a new color for DS."
Nintendo sold more than 8.5 million DS handhelds in the US last year alone, bringing the total to more than 17.6 million since the DS was launched in November 2004.
The new version will be available in the US on February 10.

Kyuzumaki has given me the permission to release an unofficial build of his RomeR program. RomeR is a Windows program which allows you to edit the internal header of an NDS file, so that you can change the description and icon, etc. In this unofficial build, none of Kyuzumaki’s internal code has been modified, but the GUI has been touched up a bit. RomeR requires the .NET Framework 2.0 in order to function.
Here are the changes in v1.0.3 Unofficial Build:
The interface has been reorganized.
The icon preview has been shrunk, you can view the icon in a larger state by pressing the ‘Preview Enlarged’ button.
Several languages have been added, including Dutch, Italian, and Japanese.
The language selector has been removed, so you can use the Options menu to change the language.
Various helpful texts have been added, one of which informs the user on how to create an icon with the correct specifications.
The application icon has changed, along with the about box background image.
The CLI Mode has been removed, due to bugs I encountered when trying to compile the release.

Askot has released a new version of his modified port of SNES9X v1.43 for the Nintendo Wii/GameCube. SNES9X is a Super Nintendo emulator which allows you to play your favorite oldschool SNES games on your video gaming console.

What's New?
- Add SD card subdirectory browsing:
+ Set the cursor over [..] and push A button to browse.
- Modified controls when going into the rom selection menu (DVD or SDCARD): [ala eke-eke style]
+ Use B to quit selection list.
+ Use L/R triggrers or Pad Left/Right to go down/up one full page.
- Some menu rearrangment and a little of sourcecode cleanup:

News/release from Kasikiare
Hello all!
I have written this Java application which provides a graphic user interface for exporting 3D models in (.3ds, .X, .m2d, .mesh) format to .bin that I think is the most used in NDS Homebrew Software.
Furthermore I wanted to integrate another GUI for convert .bmp to .bin in the same application.
Here are the binaries of my NDSModelExporter at http://www.box.net/shared/ri2qblig48
For make 3D exports I use NDS Mesh Converter which is coded by PadrinatoR and you have the source code at this location http://www.box.net/shared/7hdxqq54c4
To make BMP2Bin conversions I have used bmp2bin which is in the binaries of DevKitARM toolkit.
Special greetings to Dark Knight Ez for open the source of his DisplayList library.
Bye!

Just letting you guys know, Chris Liu has updated his chinese ebook reader, Dolphin Reader.
This is a great little reader that now allows multiple books, persistant bookmarking, easy to read fonts (2 sizes) and assignable text and background colours! You can now convert your books to .dr files and Dolphin Reader can read them.
The previous version required you to compile a txt file into the nds, but this release allows Dolphin Reader to access the FAT32 directory from Slot 2 cards.
Avaliable here:
http://www.chrislg.com/download/dr_release.html
To work:
1. Copy the .nds rom to your card.
2. Place a .txt file in the /Book/ directory
3. run conv.cmd
4. your book should convert into .dr files in the /DRBook/ directory
5. Enjoy your books with sideways reading action!
Cheers Chris!

Hey, is that Mario Kart Wii final box art? Maybe! It seems to have all of its facts straight, now that the Mario Kart Wii title has dropped its "tentative" moniker and that the ESRB has given it an "E" rating. The logo is certainly different than the one shown in Nintendo's own press room, but we're willing to let that slide in our evaluation of box art authenticity. Then again, it's box art, so who ultimately cares at this point if it's legit? Kidding, of course, as box art is serious business.
We're certainly down with the rumored look and feel, but that packaging to accomodate a Wii Wheel that we don't really want or need seems a bit excessive.

Look, what our friend the crazy modder has done now: mixed a 1981 Octopus Nintendo Game & Watch with a cellphone with his bare hands, probably creating the best retro game handheld/cellphone combo ever. What makes this Octo-phone better than the WiiPhone is that, first of all, people won't think you're a recent release from the local Mentalist Correctional Facility who believes he is having a rational four-way conversation with God, Peter Sellers and Poon-tang the Seven-Legged Donkey on a Wiimote. And secondly, it's Game & Watch, the first game I ever had *goes all misty-eyed*:
Game & Watch cellphone
As an 11-year-old, I managed to persuade my mum to buy a Double-Screen Donkey Kong Game & Watch for me when we visited NY, and then, what with the bleeps and the profanities emanating from my seat during the eight-hour return flight, she confiscated it. Between ordering a double whisky from the trolley dolly, and settling down with a Harold Robbins she'd picked up at JFK, she left my Donkey Kong in the seat pocket in front of her, tucked between the vomit bag and the safety instructions.
And there it stayed. When we arrived back in London, neither of us, groggy from the cloud of fug produced by the woman with the fuschia nails, tight perm and camel toe in the row behind us, who had chain-smoked a whole carton of ***s during the journey while she chatted up the fat man next to her, thought to rescue the Game & Watch from its hiding place.
In the car I cried all the way home. And what made it worse was that when I got back to school and told my friends that Mum had bought me one, but we'd left it on the plane, none of them believed me and, between the bleeps of their Game & Watch consoles, accused me of being a fantasist. You know, the older I get, the more I think they were right

New from SUccessHK
In multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In the solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels.

Other sites have this now, but hey, they sent it to me first, even if I sat on it for a while! Vintage Computing has done a very nice chart comparing Virtual Console prices versus current used game prices on a game by game, platform by platform basis. Predictably, the PC Engine/TG-16 has the greatest discrepancy, costing almost $900 more to purchase in hard copy, even with three titles unavailable for hard copy pricing. Is the discounted price worth the poor emulation in the wrong resolution? I'm just glad I've got most of the games already... The chart was completed by JJ Hendricks of the Videogame Price Charts blog.
Simultaneously, Gamesniped has linked an auction for every U.S.-released Turbo Grafx and Turbo CD game, with three sealed consoles. Usually these things don't strike a chord with me, but when it's the turbo...that's quite a hot batch of stuff. It also comes with a Kisado Converter for imports (those aren't made anymore). Good stuff all round, only $9,999.99! Yikes. Thanks to Flavor for the link.
