Whoops, THQ also said in its financial call that it was porting Drawn To Life to Wii. We missed that.
The game appeared last autumn on DS and let you draw a hero and his environment and then magically bring them to life to save a village by rescuing the lost pages of a magical book.
Conceptually it sounded fantastic, but it was let down by sloppy platform missions that overshadowed a solid character creator and adventure game.
We said 6/10, and lots of those marks were awarded because you could bring a willy to life.
No details for the Wii version have been released, and a date is also yet to be pencilled in.

Put fears of steering wheel control tarnishing Mario Kart Wii behind you. A new screenshot of the game in scans from the latest issue of Famitsu reveals two button icons that clearly represent the green 'A' and red 'B' buttons from the GameCube controller.
Considering the colour palette of the Wii is limited to different shades of white, it's prompted speculation that those who might find the Wii steering wheel controls a little fiddly will be able to revert to a more traditional control system using the GameCube controller. That should have old-school fans jumping with joy.
Click to the right to see the revealing screenshot. Huge scans of the full Famitsu preview, with loads more tantalising screens, are over on Jeux France.

The codenamed "PQRS" Wii puzzle title Steven Spielberg has been helping EA with has been officially unveiled. They've been planning this for a million years. We're beat to sh*t.
It's called Boom Blox, will be available in May, and is unsurprisingly made up of child friendly mini-games where you solve puzzles by using the Wiimote in quirky ways.
There are block-laying chickens and baseball-throwing monkeys to play around with, in a choice of Tiki, Medieval, Frontier and Haunted environments. Anne Lively, where is Anne Lively?
You can play it alone, co-operatively, or against your children if you want to win. You can even as make your own conundrums in Create Mode and share them over the WiiConnect24 Channel.
"I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids," said Steven Spielberg riding a velociraptor. "Boom Blox features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together."
Let's hope his action-adventure game for 360 and PS3 proves a little more exciting, as this sounds about as good as A.I. with that little robot boy who had girls' hair.

Pro Evo 2008 on Wii is an interesting one because, instead of trying to cram the multi-button controls of previous versions onto the Wii Remote, it uses the pointer to invent a totally new style of play. Come take a look.
As we explained in our detailed hands-on preview, you move your player with the Nunchuk analogue stick while setting up runs and various plays with the Remote's pointer.
It's different - a little tricky to get your head around at first - but works surprisingly well.
Look out for a full review closer to its March 28 release, and hit the thumbnails below to see the new screens, right here.

intendo has kicked a red shell up the jacksie of rumours Mario Kart Wii has been given an official release date.
As reported by Kotaku, Japanese sources claimed the launch date was set for 10th April over there. It would supposedly retail at JPY 5800 (GBP 27) for a bundle including the Wii Wheel.
But that's nonsense, according to Nintendo. A spokesperson told Eurogamer it's just "Rumour, I'm afraid," adding that "Nothing has been announced."
Well, some things have been announced. Like the fact Mario Kart Wii will feature motorbikes, an online Battle mode and online races for up to 12 players. You can see the original announcement and the game in action via the gamepage.

Nintendo shares sank to a seven month low on the close of the Nikkei, despite the company experiencing runaway success with sales of the Wii and DS consoles.
Stock fell 5.9 per cent to JPY 45,800, the lowest since the beginning of July, as the Japanese export market braces itself for a possible recession.
Companies exporting product to the US have begun to reduce production due to slower growth in the region, following minimal growth in Japan.
"There's an increasing chance that the US will post negative growth in the first quarter, and that's tough news for cyclical markets like Japan," said Akio Yoshino, chief economist at Societe Generale Asset Management, speaking to Bloomberg.

News/release from load*,8,1:
For OpenTTD I've been trying to put together a midi player for the Nintendo DS. Unfortunately I'm completely lacking any sound programming experience. Hence my plan was to modify 0xtob's PulseDS to play midi files.
I do have it running now, but the music it produces is very disappointing. And further improving it is too much work for me because I'd rather concentrate on the OpenTTD port some more.
I hope someone with PSG or sound experience will pick this up and improve the quality. Or to encourage someone to make a arm7 midi player on their own, because quite a few game ports could use one.
Current status:
- the sample binary plays a crippled version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony
- most midi events are parsed correctly and being sent to the arm7
- a few events (e.g. time signature) are not being interpreted
- the timing seems to be a little off. I'm not sure why though
- the arm7 side needs much work. Either the PSG sounds could be improved or a small soundfont could be used
- The arm9 code should be moved to arm7 to make it into a pure arm7 player

February 6th, 2008, 02:36 Posted By: wraggster
In a new Q&A with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, he reveals that the company has sold over 10 million games via its Virtual Console service for the Wii, calling those figures "proof that there are great possibilities with the download model." Iwata also tells GameSpot that the service's success shows that WiiWare may be "one answer" to problems developers have always experienced, but that downloadable content won't replace traditional retail any time soon.
He even waxes a bit about WiiWare pricing, putting a (surely tentative) price tag on WiiWare games of 500 yen (about $4.70 US). The price of a NES game? I could get behind that. Iwata has plenty more to say.
He goes on to tell GameSpot that Nintendo has no plans to enter the MMO space, saying that Miis are good enough for now and that "The virtual-world services out there now still aren't at a place where we'd like to join in--and certainly not to the point that we'd want to jump into competition with everybody else."
And for those of you without a Wii, not for a lack of trying, Iwata explains why they're still in such short supply, nearly 16 months after launch. Simply put, production couldn't keep up with demand. "This is a result of not being able to build up stock at all over the summer due to the consistently active demand for the Wii throughout the year," he says, adding that the company expects to finally target new markets this year, while ensuring a production ramp up.

Bringing an old story back to the forefront with a new angle, BBC show Watchdog reports that Michelle Livesey of Manchester can't get Brain Training (Brain Age in the States) to recognize her saying "yellow" -- she's apparently not saying it "posh" enough. Although Watchdog added a new dimension with Brain Training's inability to recognize yellow, the original problem color blue is also in the mix. The issue is all in the accents.
According to Nintendo, on page 47 of the Brain Training manual it gives hints on how to use the voice recognition properly. Suggestion number four is: "Pronounce each word as clearly as possible, and try to avoid using strong dialects or accents." Just check out Nicole Kidman saying scissors in a Nintendo ad to see how things could go wrong with accents. Nintendo claims it has been continually monitoring the voice recognition efficiency in its software since the game launched in June '06. We believe them, just as long as we don't have to say the color blue, or yellow if we're from Manchester.

Squirreled away in the same conference call that brought us news of Volition's Red Faction 3 was the announcement that the clever draw-your-own-platformer Drawn to Life wouldn't be confined to the DS any longer, with a Wii release planned for "the future." Gamasutra reports that in addition to announcing it would, uh, announce "several other new Wii exclusive titles" in coming weeks, THQ Pres Brian Farrell said the company intended "to extend the [Drawn to Life] brand to the Wii in the future." No word on when to expect the Wiimote-enabled title, but we'll fill you in when we know more.

CNET is running an article about tough technology, which aptly includes the Nintendo Game Boy, a device so tough that mine still works after many years. 'There's no two ways about it: the original Game Boy is one of the hardest gadgets ever conceived. Rumor has it this beige behemoth isn't made of plastic, but from the skulls of fallen Gurkhas. If you ever saw one that was broken, it's because it lost a boxing match with a nuclear bomb — on points.' So do you agree that the Game Boy is the toughest consumer electronics device ever made?

I've been off work for a couple of days because I did myself an injury.
I started getting bored so I thought I'd make some skins for my, and my kids <AHEM!> Supercard DS-One but found it tedious after to keep transferring the MicroSD between the PC and the NDS to see how the skins were progressing. So to save myself a bit of time and effort I decided to knock out a little program so I could view the skins on my PC as I went along.
Here's a couple of screenshots...
It's very basic and obviously has a long way to go yet but I thought maybe others on the community may find it useful.
It needs a "SKINS" directory in the same folder as the application and any skins go in their own folders within those. I have included some skins in there to give an idea of the structure.
If anyone does find it useful then let me know and I might carry on working on it when I have the time.

Altus US, the distributor of quirky Japanese games including Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, is set to release a new multiplayer puzzle game for Wii, called Octomania.
Set in the land of Lonronpia, players take control of apprentice magician Kari, who accidentally causes the land to be covered in coloured octopi. A guardian angel then appears before her and asks her to clean up her mess.
It sounds bonkers to us, but the actual features of the game sound quite promising, including an online multiplayer head-to-head mode. All quite good for a title tagged at less than $20.
Atlas promises that a tutorial makes the game more accessible than their previous efforts, but to be fair they could release a game based on a space shuttle technical manual and still keep that particular promise.
Fingers crossed that the game will come to the UK somehow, and toes crossed that more than five people buy it.

We've seen plenty of Wiimote hacks that involve interfacing the controller with a PC, and a ton of Wii KIRFs, but an outfit called Motus is aiming to bring it all together with a new PC gaming controller called Darwin. Based on an existing Motus golf club controller called the iClub (very original, guys), the Darwin tracks motion using gyroscopes, accelerometers and a compass, which allows it to track absolute motion without the need for a sensor bar like the Wiimote. Motus also says that the Darwin is more accurate and faster to relay motion data than the Wiimote, which allows games to more accurately simulate real world activities. That's certainly interesting, but seeing as a Wiimote costs $40 and you can go buy one right now, we'd say the Darwin has quite an uphill battle in store when it hits next year.
