It's official. Well, almost. The Wii has overtaken the worldwide lifetime sales of the GameCube in the thirteen months since its release.
Now for our legendary E in A Level mathematics to finally prove its worth. On February 9, the Wii had sold 21.490 million consoles, while its predecessor had sold a mere 21.515 million units.
Based on the amount of Wii's sold last week, the console is currently selling 64,000 units per day.
Pop all that information in a mathematics machine and you get a figure of 21.554 million Wii's sold by the closing of business on February 10. Wowsers.
To put this in perspective, 61 million NES units, 49 million SNES units and 33 million N64 units are currently floating around the world in various states of despair.
Nintendo shouldn't be breaking out the champagne yet, though. The next milestone for them makes the GameCube lifetime sales look like loose change by comparison.
Last October, Sony reported that the PS2 lifetime worldwide sales had surpassed 120 million. There's a long way to go, yet.

Shigeru Miyamoto has said that Wii Fit isn't really meant to make you fit (like the title suggests). It won't give you a six pack or help you finish the London marathon. He says it's only going to make you more aware of your body. And that's a good thing.
Speaking to Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata about the ideas surrounding the creation of Wii Fit, Miyamoto said, "I think it's important to make discoveries like this about yourself. I forgot to mention something important earlier: I don't think Wii Fit's purpose is to make you fit; what it's actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body.
"That's why we wanted people to talk with their families about Wii Fit, and become aware of these things together as a group. If you're standing still, and it tells you 'Your body is swaying', you can see on the training results screen that your body has been shaking. But I think you'd never realize that your body is shaking in day-to-day life. I think becoming aware of things like this about yourself is quite interesting."

Version 1.2 is now out
Website/download: http://phleon.kloplop321.com
Phleon is a simple program for those that wish to test their themes without having to waste a bunch of time on their DS, taking out their memory card from the computer, booting up, starting moonshell, testing, shut down, put the memory card back into the computer, and so on. I've also worked really hard just making things work, as in opening a previously made theme(even themes from outside of Phleon), and saving themes. In other words, It creates a folder that is just "Drag & Drop" into the skin folder of your moonshell folder of your memory card.- fixed small rendering coding mistype in window title bars in window emulator
- fixed image importing so that other files can be used, and many more are now supported, as long as it is at or below 256 by 192
- made selection double click instead of single(on the skin info window)
- fixed the first color dialog to keep the same color, and in full view mode automatically
- made second HEX color dialog update color faster
- made all windows except for the window position editor not stay maximized when its task bar is double clicked
- progress bars apparently switched when loaded, now fixed
- system icon now supporting the green
- transparency key like the exit button did
- made all exported BMP's into 24 bit to avoid incompatibility with the RAM type of bitmap(32 bit when alpha is used) and the type the DS can handle (24 bit)
- title bar in the DS Preview was wrong, now fixed
- Dynamic pictures for people to use on the news posts to show if the current post is current or not.
- Save Buffer system so that you can overwrite the file you loaded from
- removed choppy milliseconds that semi-purposely annoyed people
- removed the Current time, as everybody should have it
- retain current work path so you don't have to re-navigate to it all the time(while in project).
- ani loading(no view yet)
- the startup and shutdown mp3 loading(no sound yet)
- the startup and shutdown mp3 loading from converting from another format(OGG, WAV or a big MP3)(no sound yet)
- Play and Pause functionality for animations
- Portuguese language added
- made encoding process better and more safe-proof, also made terminal(CMD) output replica not flicker, this uses the LAME.EXE
- LAME is included with it so that you can encode your own mp3's through it for startup and shutdown at a custom bitrate. For WAV's you must use pure
- PCM codec as for some reason it hates it otherwise and not at 32Kb/s bitrate, don't ask why though.
- Correct Image size scale down and up(size wont matter anymore)
- Now there are tool-tips for all the import menu items and some in the file menu to describe what they do.
- Translations for German now correct
- About box with click able link to my email, and other various information
- Making the scroll bar smooth and moves where mouse is like the progress bar
- Added the bevel on the window emulator that you can drag around and stuff
- fixed the file fbar image rendering(was switches as well)

In addition to our extensive preview of Spore, we've also managed to get our hands on six screenshots from the DS version.
We think that Spore is one of the most ambitious videogame projects ever conceived, charting the evolution of a species from one cell to a million space colonies.
Unfortunately from the looks of the screenshots, the DS version looks like it should have been a victim of natural selection, instead of surviving to grace the handheld console.
If you've seen the screenshots in our preview, it should be obvious that the DS version is built from the ground-up and quite separate from other versions. It focuses on evolution and the creation of creatures, all fashioned into a linear story.
We've been assured that it looks great when animated, but for now we'll hold out for a video to confirm it.

Publisher Eidos Interactive announced Wednesday that it has teamed with developer Backbone Entertainment to releasee Death Jr.: Root of Evil for Wii this spring. The game will be based on the previously released PSP effort, but will boast both improved graphics and all-new controls tailored for the Wii remote.
"Eidos is proud to bring the console debut of the Death Jr. series to Wii, with a new simple control scheme, intuitive aiming system, and polished graphics that enhance the game's action platform experience," said Robert A. Lindsey, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Eidos. "Death Jr.'s vibrant stylized art and quirky intelligent characters, combined with the new split-screen cooperative mode, makes Death Jr.: Root of Evil appealing to a wide-reaching audience that has embraced Wii."
In Root of Evil, players become the Grim Reaper's son and his school sweetheart Pandora as they embark on a quest to save Jr.'s kidnapped father. The title comes to life with colorful, stylized visuals and all-new Wii controls. Using the Wii remote and nunchuk, gamers can perform dual-weapon attacks of both the melee and projectile variety, and dispose of some 45 different enemies. Using the Wii remote, gamers can accurately target baddies, but the device is also used intuitively to control the camera. The game will feature 19 levels and a two-player cooperative mode.

With Killer 7 and No More Heroes - both bonkers and exceptionally violent games - under his belt, Grasshopper CEO Suda 51 has earned a name for cooking up games for an adults-only crowd.
Speaking to Nintendo Official Magazine UK, he revealed his desire to give Mario the Suda-treatment in a "Mario game for adults".
When asked by NOM if he'd ever consider making a game suitable for a younger audience, he replied: "I want to make a Super Mario game for adults.
"Maybe Mario could wear an Italian suit and have a machine gun," he hypothesised, adding, "But Nintendo probably wouldn't like that idea."
Yeah, probably not. But if you want to play gory Mario games there are plenty of (rubbish) Flash games knocking around the internet. Go on, go stamp a Goomba's face in.
You can read the full interview with Suda 51, as well as a review of the Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 in issue 27 of Official Nintendo Magazine, on UK shelves from Friday, February 15.

The brain training bandwagon has gotten increasingly crowded over the last year, with everyone and their brother seemingly thinking it's their duty to churn out interactive tools to help the cerebrally infirm. The latest company to climb on board is Eidos with Brain Voyage, a new "stylish and challenging" noodle puzzler coming to the Nintendo DS later this year.
For board game enthusiasts, the game features "ingenious" puzzles designed by noted German game designer Dr. Reiner Knizia, known for such board games as Amun-Re, Modern Art, and Lord of the Rings. As for what sorts of puzzles we can expect, Eidos notes that the game will feature a sort of globe trotting mechanic, as players ponder 80 different geographically-relevant puzzles "ranging from easy to elaborately ambitious." Details remain cloudy on how exactly these puzzles will work, though that could simply be a side effect of our mental faculties being on increasingly shaky ground.

Earlier this month, Nintendo filed an incredibly vague lawsuit in King County Superior Court against 1-10 “John Does.” The court filing claims the unidentified defendants “misappropriat[ed] trade secrets,” but does not give any context about the information that was supposedly leaked. Nintendo also doesn’t appear to know the names of the people responsible for the alleged leak, and the suit does not specify whether the “Does” are Washington residents.
Nintendo would not comment on the suit, so it’s anyone’s guess what this is all about.
It could be related to massive problems with pirated games on the Nintendo DS, or it could just be a pre-emptive strike at folks who like to tip off game blogs.
I’ve got a few calls out to try and see what’s going on in Redmond.

It could be related to massive problems with pirated games on the Nintendo DS, or it could just be a pre-emptive strike at folks who like to tip off game blogs.
I’ve got a few calls out to try and see what’s going on in Redmond.

Team Twiizers is at it again. This time they have released a new version of their Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess exploit (WIP Loader) for the USA (RVL-RZDE-0A-2) version of the game. Nothing has changed in this version other then the fact it's now compatible with the above game.

If you're anything like us and misspent many a happy hour frantically slotting pieces of adjoining pipe into place before a load of sewerage came seeping out the end, you'll be thrilled by today's announcement from publisher Empire that it's remaking classic Amiga game Pipe Mania.
The original Pipe Mania was first released in 1989 and later ported to a range of formats including Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, Game Boy and NES.
The game queues up differently shaped bits of pipe for you to slot together from a start to a finish point. Each level requires the use of a minimum pieces of pipe and, once a clock has counted down, sludge starts to trickle through the pipes making connecting them up ever more fraught. It's a simple concept but one that's stood the test of time and has produced plenty of clones over the years.
Speaking to MCV, Empire Interactive CEO Ian Higgins said: "We are very excited to be bringing back Pipe Mania. Releasing this popular puzzle title across all formats will give gamers of all ages the opportunity to enjoy this exciting puzzle sensation."
The new version will remain similar to the original but includes new game modes, characters, themes and play mechanics and, as Higgins discloses, it'll be released on all formats later this year.
An Empire spokesperson has since confirmed to us that this includes DS and PSP. Which we're happy about because Pipe Mania is perfect handheld fodder.

Not much is known about this but one would assume that EA will be releasing this very shortly as it was hidden in their financial reports. No price or release date. We'll have more information onces its been full uncovered.
Looks a bit clunky but it may also act as an actual Nerf gun?

After several delays and much anticipation, Spore looks like it will finally be coming out this year. EA has announced a September 7th release date for the game. The only confirmed platforms so far are Windows PCs, Macintoshes, the Nintendo DS and various mobile phones. Wright wants the Wii, 360, and PS3 to have the game, but they're not firm 'yes'es yet. Newsweek's LevelUp blog is celebrating the announcement with a series of interviews. N'Gai Croal spoke to Will Wright, and the man himself tries to convince us why it's been worth the wait, and (oh yeah) why it has taken so long. Croal also sat down with the game's Executive Producer, Lucy Bradshaw, who explains how the game has settled onto other platforms like the DS and mobile phones.
