Wedbush Morgan's gaming guru Michael Pachter sees big things for Nintendo's Wii Fit in North America, where the combination personal trainer and balance board are slated for a May 19th release. The analyst predicts the package could sell upwards of 4 million units if Nintendo does it up right.
"I really don't know what the spend will be, but it could be 10 - 12% of projected sales. If we assume a retail price of $100, that's $10 million in marketing for each 1 million units sold. If they go mainstream (have Oprah demo the device), I could see them selling 3 - 4 million, maybe more. That suggests the potential for $30 - 40 million in marketing.]
In fact, Pachter says that Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime himself indicated that they plan to back the title with the biggest marketing campaign in the company's history. If I were to speculate I'd probably aim for a more conservative number, but then again my financial analysis experience is limited to predicting whether or not a charge for pizza will clear before my paycheck, and even then I am usually wrong. I wonder if Pachter does requests?
Update: Pachter informed us that the New York Post writer never spoke to him and misquoted the article's original Game Daily source. Updated text accordingly.

Vicious1988 has updated his Unnofficial version of the Snes Emulator for the Nintendo Wii that supports SD Front loading
Hey guys, I've managed to fix the save bug. Now the emulator works perfect. Just a reminder, SRAM is not a save state, it is the game's internal memory (like the 3 files on zelda).
That means you can't save arcade-esque and password games (Contra, Wheel of Fortune, Zombies Ate My Neighbors)
Once again, report any bugs. Download Here and Give Feedback & Compatability Reports Via Comments

Ever worry about garroting yourself during a frenzied Wii session with the lead that connects your Wii-mote and Nunchuck? Worry no more, as peripheral manufacturer Zappies has kindly concocted a wireless device that syncs the two controllers, freeing you from Nintendo's tyrannical tether.
Though the Nunchuck Wireless Kit admittedly looks a little clumsy, requiring bulky add-ons for both the Wii-mote and the Nunchuck, as well as demanding two AAA batteries to further add to the power demands of the Wii's controllers, it'll free you up to perform some free-form waggling. It's exclusive to the UK for the time being, retailing at a somewhat steep £19.95 [about $40 US]. A liberating peripheral, or an unnecessary add-on? Air yourselves in the comments section.

The Wii Software system for buying downloadable content for your games has been detailed, using the rather pricey example of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.
In order to access the in-game store you have to grab an updated version of the game containing it from the Wii Shop, according to the Wired blog.
Once this is done, a "Download additional content" option will be added to the in-game main menu. This will automatically connect you and list the available extras you can buy.
Select an item and it will tell you how many Wii Points you have, and how much you will have left after buying the item. It will also tell you the number of memory blocks you have free and how many you will have left afterwards.
Download the item and it should appear in-game as soon as it has finished transferring.
This is encouraging, then, more so than the price of the content in My Life as a King. The game is the most expensive on the Wii Software service at 1500 Points (GBP 10.50 / EUR 15 approx), and the total cost of the DLC is almost as much.
To get at the non-human Crystal Chronicles races bizarrely not included - Lilty, Selkie, and Yuke - you will have to play 300 Points (GBP 2.10 / EUR 3 approx) for each, or 800 Points (GBP 6 / EUR 8 approx) for all three.
Then, if you want a change of clothes for your King or your assistant Chime then you will need to spend 100 Points (GBP 0.70 / EUR 1 approx) each.
Perhaps you want a Gorgeous House, too - 100 Points (GBP 0.70 / EUR 1 approx), please. What about a Sacred Shrine to buff your warriors? 200 Points (GBP 1.40 / EUR 2 approx), please.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King has you building and managing a castle and its surrounding town, sending adventurers out on quests and introducing taxes to gather more money to expand your settlement.
It was one of the launch titles on the Japanese Wii Software (WiiWare) service released on 25th March. There is currently no news on when the service will be available in Europe.

Fans of alternate Wii control schemes were obviously psyched when it was revealed that Mario Kart Wii would support a variety of control methods, including the Wii Classic Controller and Gamecube pad. But those fans might want to scale back their expectations, as an updated game fact sheet (posted on Nintendo's press site) claims that players who don't use the Wii Remote schemes will not be able to perform "certain moves" and "some maneuvers."
What maneuvers exactly? We're not quite sure, but the new mid-air tricks probably aren't among them -- A Link to the Future notes that an IGN preview specifically mentions Classic and Gamecube controller users can hit the d-pad to perform those. We find it hard to imagine that the plethora of joysticks and buttons on the alternate control schemes can't replicate the controls of the somewhat button-free design of the Wii Remote. Could this be an effort to encourage more use of the [practically useless] 'extremely useful' Wii Wheel? You'll know as soon as we do.

Vicious1988 has released an Unnofficial version of the Snes Emulator for the Nintendo Wii with support for SD Front loading
Here's build 2 of frontSD menu. It loads from the rom directory of your SDcard and has pages (no more trying to render 999 short filenames at a time). Filenames are still limited to 50 characters (including extension).
I did have it crash one time but I think thats because I had a few files longer than 50 characters and my menu length was too long.

In mid-March leading video game retailer GameStop said they expect shortages for Nintendo's Wii to continue for several more months. But why is there a shortage for the system in the U.S. well over a year after the console's launch? If you ask Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter, it's all the fault of our faltering economy and the weakened U.S. dollar.
Speaking to the Dallas Morning News recently, Pachter noted that Nintendo is deliberately allocating more of its Wii stock for Europe because it can make a bigger profit selling to consumers across the pond. Since Nintendo is a foreign company, when it sells its products in the U.S. for U.S. dollars, our currency has to then be converted into Japanese yen. Because the dollar right now is relatively weak, Nintendo is better off converting the euro.
That said, demand for the Wii has reportedly come down to more normal levels in Europe, and as such Nintendo will likely be shipping more units to the U.S. to satisfy the still greater demand stateside. Therefore, the Wii shortages in the U.S. should subside as 2008 progresses.

Square Enix certainly didn't wait long to get the downloadable content train running following its first foray into downloadable gaming last week with the start of the Japanese WiiWare service. First stop: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.
The company made available today the first wave of paid download content for the simulation/RPG, which launched with the service last week. Owners of the game (which, we'll remind you, is only available in Japan at the moment) now have access to eight items.
The main attractions for this first content update are three new character races: Lilty, Yuke, and Selkie. The original title shipped with just one class, Clavat. Each new race costs 300 Wii Points a piece, or you can get all three together for 800 Wii Points.
The new content also includes a couple of new buildings, each 200 Wii Points. With the Seinaru Hokora building, you can raise your adventurer's stats temporarily by having your king pray at the building. The change apparently occurs in real time, as your king prays (which we presume will keep you busy when your adventurers are out during the day). Also available is the Mansion, a large house that's populated by a family of 8. As usual, only one of these is an adventurer, but because the family is so big, you'll get a boost in taxes over a standard house.
The above items initially appear in the game in the form of dungeons. Once you've cleared the dungeons, you gain the ability to build the new building types and the homes that will house adventurers of the new race types. You're limited to making five of each of the race houses. The other two houses are limited to three each.
Other updates include new clothing for your King and for your support character, Chime. Each of these items cost 100 Wii Points. Unlike the other items, you're able to use these immediately upon making your download. Simply head to your castle and go into your closet to change.
Items, at least for Crystal Chronicles, are purchased exclusively from the game's title screen or your in-game castle menu. They cannot be purchased from the Wii Shopping Channel.
Before getting access to the downloads, though, players will have to update their copy of the game by re-downloading it through the Wii Shopping Channel. This update is, of course, free. This whole re-download business will presumably not be needed for the international versions of the games.
The downloadable content doesn't end here. Square Enix made mention today of future download content that includes a library, which will let you learn the unique abilities of the various races; the Unlimited Tower, a dungeon that can be played through over and over again; and the ability to change your adventurer's names. Specifics for these future downloads were not revealed.

Role-playing fans can slip on their dancing shoes and party like it's 1991. A new interview with Final Fantasy IV director Takashi Tokita in the latest Nintendo Power seems to point to the game's recent DS remake being localized for North American audiences. Oh sure, he doesn't come right out and confirm the localization -- where's the drama in that? -- but given that the article comes peppered with English language screens and the game itself is featured on the cover, we're certainly leaning towards believing that the RPG will soon be getting some domestic love.
Tokita also toys with our emotions, speaking to the possibility of a remake of SNES RPG classic Chrono Trigger provided "the demand is great enough." Though like coming down hard off a caffeine high, he sends us crashing back down to earth by adding that he really wants to "create new titles and not just series installments and remakes." Yours is a cruel love, mon cher.

The teasiest of teasing hints from Camelot Software Planning has raised hopes that the Golden Sun developer is planning a new game in the RPG series.
"Honestly, just like your readers saying that they want to see a new Golden Sun, a new tennis game, a new Shining Force, well, everyone in Camelot feels the same way - we really want to get these games out for you guys", heads of the Japanese studio Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi said in interview with IGN, dangling a carrot.
Inviting further speculation, the pair confirmed that the developer is currently in the planning stages of "doing something interesting", suggesting that whatever this is it's an RPG for DS or Wii.
"We hope that you will be looking forward to our future game", they added. "We ourselves are looking forward to the next Camelot RPG as well, just like you."
Golden Sun and sequel Golden Sun: The Lost Age released on GBA critical acclaim.
